Benralizumab (Fasenra®, AstraZeneca) is a humanized monoclonal antibody binding to the alpha subunit of the interleukin-5 receptor, which rapidly depletes eosinophils via antibody-dependent cellular cytotoxicity. The aim of this Phase 1 study was to assess the safety, tolerability, and pharmacokinetics of benralizumab in healthy Chinese individuals.Materials and Methods: In this randomized, single-blind study (NCT03928262), healthy Chinese adult participants aged 18 to 45 years, weighing 50 to 100 kg, were randomized 1:1:1 to receive a single subcutaneous (SC) injection of benralizumab 10 mg, 30 mg, or 100 mg in the upper arms on Day 1. Safety was monitored throughout the study (up to Day 85), and blood samples were taken to determine serum benralizumab concentrations and for detection of anti-drug antibody. A non-compartmental analysis was conducted to estimate the pharmacokinetic parameters.Results: Thirty-six healthy participants were enrolled, 12 in each dose group (mean [SD] age 26 [6] years). Following a single SC injection of benralizumab, 13 adverse events were reported by 10 participants (28%), with one mild injection-site reaction assessed as related. The mean serum benralizumab concentrations increased in a dose proportional manner, followed by exponential decreases. The mean terminal half-lives were 15.1 days for the 10 mg dose, 14.4 days for the 30 mg dose, and 15.4 days for the 100 mg dose. All doses resulted in near-complete depletion of eosinophils on Day 2, which was maintained throughout the study to Day 85.Conclusion: A single SC injection of benralizumab was well tolerated by healthy Chinese participants, with no new or unexpected safety findings. Abstract In this paper, we study the formation of optical bistability (OB) and optical multistability (OM) in a degenerate four-level atomic system by an external magnetic field that is excited by a probe laser field, a coupling laser field and a signal laser field. The coupling field can cause electromagnetically induced transparency (EIT) for the probe field in the atomic medium, while the signal field and/or external magnetic field can switch between single-EIT and two-EIT regimes. Based on these properties, OB and OM effects can be formed at two different frequency regions of the probe field (two channels). By adjusting the magnetic field or the intensity and the frequency of laser fields, the threshold intensity and the width of OB or OM can also be changed simply. The model can be useful for experimental observations and applications in modern photonic devices.

The article describes the tax system in the Annam under colonial period and the project of reforming capitation and land tax of the French protectionist government in 1938. The work clarifies the process by which the parliamentarians in the Chambre des représentants du peuple de l’Annam (The Chamber of Representatives of the people of Annam) rejected the Government’s new tax reform project at its 1938 annual meeting which took place from September 12 to September 21 at Hue. Since then, we have analyzed the subjective and objective causes leading to the aforementioneds success of the Chamber. One of the main contributions that the research results have made is to prove that parliamentary struggle was a peaceful and lawful tactic for the colonial people to achive some legitimate and democratic rights. Thereby, the study significantly contributes to demonstrate that parliamentary struggle is an inseparable part of the patriotic and revolutionary movement in Viêt Nam during the French colonial period.

Aim: To describe prevalence of early initiation of breastfeeding and associated factors among Vietnamese mothers. Methods: A self-administered questionnaire was used to survey 1812 mothers whose infants were aged 0 to less than 30 months in multi-center Vietnam. Multivariate logistic regression was performed to identify factors associated independently with early initiation of breastfeeding. Results: Prevalence of early initiation of breastfeeding was 57.2 % and this prevalence was higher in female infants compared with male infants (p = 0.004). Factors associated with increased odds of early initiation of breastfeeding include female infants (aOR: 1.33; 95%CI: 1.06 to 1.68) living in urban areas (aOR: 1.34, 95%CI: 1.05 to 1.71), giving birth in private hospitals (aOR: 1.94, 95%CI: 1.25 to 3.03), vaginal birth (aOR: 1.70, 95%CI: 1.34 to 2.16). Factors associated with decreased odds of early initiation of breastfeeding include higher educational level, mother's weight gain during pregnancy, and infant complication at birth. Compared with mothers who had not experienced skin-to-skin contact with their babies, the prevalence of early initiation of breastfeeding was higher in mothers who experienced 90 min (aOR: 10.98, 95%CI: 6.79 to 17.75). Conclusion: Focusing on modifiable factors should be a key priority to help improve early initiation of breastfeeding practice.

Abstract Purpose Standard oral cancer chemotherapy (OCT) or targeted therapy (OTT) has expanded the treatment methods for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). However, its principal nonadherence causes a reduction in efficacy. We aimed to evaluate the status of nonadherence and influencing factors among outpatient patients with HCC. Patients and methods In 2021, a prospective observational study was conducted on 384 patients with either old or newly diagnosed HCC treated with OTT. Vegan cosmetics have become more popular among consumers due to increased environmental awareness and health consciousness after the COVID-19 pandemic. This study aims to investigate the influence of beauty vloggers’ credibility on consumers’ purchase intention toward vegan cosmetics. An integrated research model was built based on the source credibility and stimulus-organism-response theory. Data were collected from a questionnaire survey with 382 Vietnamese consumers at the minimum age of 18 who had experience watching beauty vloggers reviewing vegan cosmetics on YouTube. Partial least squares structural equation modeling was applied to analyze the collected data. The results show that the beauty vloggers’ expertise, trustworthiness, and physical attractiveness all positively impact cognitive and affective attitudes, influencing consumers’ purchase intention. Furthermore, these factors positively impact consumers’ intention to purchase vegan cosmetics. Therefore, cognitive and affective attitudes partially mediate the relationship between the beauty vloggers’ credibility and consumers’ purchase intentions. Given that the direct and indirect effects point in the same direction, these mediators are classified as complementary. This study contributes to deeper understanding of consumers’ intention to purchase vegan cosmetics recommended by beauty vloggers. Abstract Combination of waning immunity and lower effectiveness against new SARS-CoV-2 variants of approved COVID-19 vaccines necessitates new vaccines. We evaluated two doses, 28 days apart, of ARCT-154, a self-amplifying mRNA COVID-19 vaccine, compared with saline placebo in an integrated phase 1/2/3a/3b controlled, observer-blind trial in Vietnamese adults (ClinicalTrial.gov identifier: NCT05012943). Primary safety and reactogenicity outcomes were unsolicited adverse events (AE) 28 days after each dose, solicited local and systemic AE 7 days after each dose, and serious AEs throughout the study. Primary immunogenicity outcome was the immune response as neutralizing antibodies 28 days after the second dose. Efficacy against COVID-19 was assessed as primary and secondary outcomes in phase 3b. ARCT-154 was well tolerated with generally mild–moderate transient AEs. Four weeks after the second dose 94.1% (95% CI: 92.1–95.8) of vaccinees seroconverted for neutralizing antibodies, with a geometric mean-fold rise from baseline of 14.5 (95% CI: 13.6–15.5). Of 640 cases of confirmed COVID-19 eligible for efficacy analysis most were due to the Delta (B.1.617.2) variant. Efficacy of ARCT-154 was 56.6% (95% CI: 48.7– 63.3) against any COVID-19, and 95.3% (80.5–98.9) against severe COVID-19. ARCT-154 vaccination is well tolerated, immunogenic and efficacious, particularly against severe COVID-19 disease.

Abstract The global threat of antibiotic resistance has increased the importance of the detection of antibiotics. Conventional methods to detect antibiotics are time-consuming and require expensive specialized equipment. Here, we present a simple and rapid biosensor for detecting ampicillin, a commonly used antibiotic. Our method is based on the fluorescent properties of chitosan-coated Mn-doped ZnS micromaterials combined with the β-lactamase enzyme. The biosensors exhibited the highest sensitivity in a linear working range of 13.1–72.2 pM with a limit of detection of 8.24 pM in deionized water. In addition, due to the biological specificity of β-lactamase, the proposed sensors have demonstrated high selectivity over penicillin, tetracycline, and glucose through the enhancing and quenching effects at wavelengths of 510 nm and 614 nm, respectively. These proposed sensors also showed promising results when tested in various matrices, including tap water, bottled water, and milk. Our work reports for the first time the cost-effective (Mn:ZnS)Chitosan micromaterial was used for ampicillin detection. The results will facilitate the monitoring of antibiotics in clinical and environmental contexts.

Introduction: To date, newborn screening (NBS) for proximal urea cycle disorders, including Ornithine transcarbamylase deficiency (OTCD), was not recommended due to the lack of appropriate tests and insufficient evidence of the benefits. This study aimed to investigate the potential of tandem mass spectrometry (MS/MS) for OTCD screening and its value in guiding further investigation to obtain a final diagnosis in high-risk patients. Methods: The study included patients with OTCD referred to the National Children's Hospital between April 2020 and November 2023. A retrospective evaluation of amino acid concentrations measured by MS/MS and their ratios in patients with early-onset and late-onset OTCD was conducted. Results: While all ten early-onset cases had glutamine concentrations above the upper limit, only five of them had citrulline concentrations below the lower limit of the reference interval. Only two late-onset cases had elevated glutamine levels, while all had citrulline within reference intervals. The Cit/Phe ratio was decreased, and the Gln/Cit and Met/Cit ratios were increased in all early-onset OTCD cases, while they were abnormal in only one late-onset case. Conclusions: The preliminary results suggest that hyperglutaminemia, in combination with low or normal citrulline concentrations and specific ratios (Gln/Cit, Met/Cit, and Cit/Phe), can serve as reliable markers for screening early-onset OTCD in high-risk patients. However, these markers proved less sensitive for detecting the late-onset form, even in symptomatic patients.

Abstract Background Digital health has surged during the Covid health crisis, and the use of social media, already prevalent in medicine, has significantly increased. There are Social Networks groups dedicated to physicians with an educational purpose. These groups also facilitate peer discussions on medical questions and the sharing of training materials. Objectives The aim of our study was to assess the value of these new tools and their contribution to medical education. Methods An anonymous questionnaire was conducted among members of a Social Networks community group for physicians. The survey received responses from 1451 participants. Results The majority of participants believed they had enriched their medical knowledge and accessed documents they would not have accessed without the group. Subgroup analysis showed that the contribution of this tool is more pronounced for general practitioners and doctors practicing in limited healthcare access. Conclusion It is essential to develop digital tools that enhance physician training, and social networks represent a valuable educational tool.

Purpose – This paper employs the theoretical foundations for subjective well-being to examine the impacts of two underlying dimensions of subjective well-being (psychological well-being and social well-being) on pro-environmental consumption behaviors (PECBs). In this research, the moderating role of exposure to positive environmental messages on media in the relationship between subjective well-being and PECBs is also examined. Design/methodology/approach – This research uses a quantitative research method with data collected from an online survey questionnaire posted in Facebook groups related to PECBs in Vietnam. Findings – Psychological well-being and social well-being are found to be separate significant predictors of PECBs. More importantly, exposure to positive environmental messages on media was found to reinforce the impacts of psychological well-being on PECB but not moderate the relationship between social well-being and PECB. Originality/value – This research offers a new insight for encouraging PECB from the perspective of subjective well-being. Different from the extant perspectives, which usually examine subjective well-being as a unidimensional antecedent of PECB, the authors highlight that subjective well-being can influence PECB in two separate dimensions. Moreover, this research extends existing literature by accentuating the role of exposure to environmental messages in the association between different types of social well-being and PECB.

At present, a new wave of entrepreneurship has emerged and made a significant impact in Vietnam despite challenges. The study aims to assess the factors related to the entrepreneurial intentions of young pharmacists in 2023 in the Mekong Delta region. A cross-sectional descriptive method was conducted, involving interviews with 815 young pharmacists living in the Mekong Delta region, via a pre-designed research questionnaire. Results showed that 6 out of 43 variables were eliminated after Cronbach’s alpha was run. The Kaiser-Meyer-Olkin coefficient (0.5–0.923) indicated statistical significance and suitable conditions for Exploratory Factor Analysis. Confirmatory Factor Analysis and Structural Equation Modeling results were consistent with market data. With the impact of difficulties, attitude, perception of behavioral control, subjective norms, achievement needs on knowledge, and knowledge on entrepreneurial intentions (p < 0.05). In conclusion, the study successfully collected samples and gained a deeper understanding of the factors influencing the entrepreneurial intentions of young pharmacists.

The exact aetiology of the cause of death (COD) remains unknown for a high proportion of deaths caused by infectious diseases. Complete diagnostic autopsy (CDA) is considered the gold standard to determine COD, but it is often not used in low and middle-income countries (LMIC), including Vietnam, for a variety of reasons. One alternative is minimally invasive tissue sampling (MITS). This study was part of a larger project to explore the perceptions of MITS in Vietnam to provide recommendations for its potential implementation. We collected in-depth interviews and focus group discussions that explored MITS acceptability from 96 participants, including key informants, healthcare workers, community stakeholders, and people who had family members pass away recently. Participants highlighted the minimally invasive nature as the most considerable strength of MITS that could make it acceptable in Vietnam compared with CDA. However, participants still had concerns including the accuracy of the technique, the potential damage on the body, and the potential conflicts MITS results could have with original clinical diagnoses. Overall, the hypothetical acceptability of MITS was not clear-cut. It is imperative to consider acceptability before implementing new medical procedures into a given context, especially when it revolves around death, dying and the body.

The graphene oxide-silver nanocomposites (AgNPs@GO) have attracted much attention due to their targeted effect and nontoxicity against normal cells. The toxic factors, including the chemical reagents during the synthesis of AgNPs@GO, must be considered and minimized for the cancer treatment application. This study aims to apply the response surface methodology (RSM) with central composite design (CCD) for investigating independent factors, including mass ratio Ag+/GO, temperature, and reaction time, to find the optimal conditions for graphene oxide-silver nanocomposite (AgNPs@GO) synthesis. The green tea leaves extract was used as an alternative reducing agent for the green synthesis of AgNPs@GO. The maximum absorption wavelength of AgNPs, highly dependent on silver nanoparticles' size and shape, was utilized as the target function. The results show optimal conditions for the green synthesis of AgNPs@GO with the mass ratio of Ag+/GO is 2:1 at 30 °C for 40 minutes. The average maximum absorption wavelength of the synthesized AgNPs@GO at the optimal condition of 416.78 nm, with silver nanoparticles on the GO sheet having an average size of 21.2 ± 5.61 nm, the round shape and distributed on the GO sheets uniformly, without aggregation. In addition, the synthesized AgNPs@GO was against HepG2, MDA231, and MDA453, with the IC₅₀ of 152.582, 152.428, and 199.844 μg/mL, respectively.

Although silver nanoparticles have long attracted scientists due to their remarkable antibacterial properties, the tendency of AgNPs to agglomerate results in diminished antibacterial activities and increased toxicity against normal cells. Among carbon-based nanomaterials, graphene oxide (GO), the oxidized form of graphene, can be utilized as a base for AgNPs to grow and disperse. Regarding the chemical approach, it is conventional to engage sodium borohydride (NaBH4) or hydrazine to reduce silver ions. However, using excessive amounts of these chemicals raises concerns about toxicity in biomedical applications and environmental issues. Here, this work report the synthesis of AgNPs@GO nanocomposites by reducing silver nitrate on GO using various green reducing agents, including ascorbic acid, Houttuynia cordata Thunb. leaf extract, Coffea robusta L. Linden (Robusta green coffee) bean extract, and Camellia sinensis (L.) Kuntze (green tea) leaf extract. The synthesized AgNPs@GO were characterized by X-ray diffraction spectrum, UV–Vis analysis, and dynamic light scattering, followed by an evaluation of the antibacterial activity using the diffusion agar method. The results demonstrate the high potential of green tea as a green-reducing agent in the synthesis procedure of AgNPs. The synthesized AgNPs@GO using green tea extract showed a similar UV–Vis spectral shape compared to the AgNPs@GO synthesized using NaBH4 with the maximum absorption wavelengths of AgNPs at 428 nm and GO at 203.5 nm. The AgNPs@GO synthesized also had the smallest average diameter (609.67 nm) and the highest magnitude of the zeta potential (29.83 mV) among all synthesized samples. Noteworthy is that AgNPs@GO synthesized with green tea extract demonstrated significant stability over 40 days. Furthermore, the results of the antibacterial experiments reveal that the diameter of the inhibitory zone was approximately 2 mm, half that of the control drug amoxicillin (1 mg/mL). In summary, green tea leaf extract emerged as the most effective reducing agent for the eco-friendly synthesis of stable and durable AgNPs@GO. This indicates a suitable and straightforward process for large-scale antibacterial production with potential applications in biological wastewater treatment.

Nghiên cứu này được thực hiện nhằm xác định sơ bộ thành phần hóa học và khảo sát khả năng ức chế nảy mầm, hoạt tính kháng vi khuẩn của cao chiết xuất từ lá cây bàng (Terminalia catappa L.) được thu hái tại thành phố Vũng Tàu, tỉnh Bà Rịa – Vũng Tàu. Khả năng ức chế nảy mầm được thực hiện khảo sát trên hạt cải củ (Raphanus sativus L.) và khả năng ức chế vi khuẩn gây bệnh gan, thận mủ trên cá được khảo sát trên vi khuẩn Edwardsiella ictaluri. Kết quả cho thấy hàm lượng flavonoid tổng và phenolic tổng có trong cao chiết lá bàng lần lượt là 237,76 mgQE/g và 145,29 mgGA/g. Tại nồng độ khảo sát 15 mg/mL, cao chiết lá bàng ức chế sự nảy mầm 100% hạt cải củ. Bên cạnh đó, cao chiết lá bàng còn thể hiện hoạt tính kháng vi khuẩn Edwardsiella ictaluri trong dãy nồng độ khảo sát 32 – 512 mg/mL. Từ kết quả nghiên cứu cho thấy lá bàng là nguồn nguyên liệu tự nhiên có tiềm năng cho nghiên cứu các chất có hoạt tính ức chế sự phát triển của cỏ hoặc trong phòng ngừa bệnh trên cá.

The detection of ampicillin plays a crucial role in managing and monitoring its usage and resistance. This study introduces a simple and effective biosensor for ampicillin detection, utilizing the unique absorbance features of Mn-doped ZnS capped by chitosan micromaterials in conjunction with β-lactamase activity. The biosensors can detect ampicillin concentrations from 13.1 to 72.2 μM, with a minimum detection limit of 2.93 μM for sensors based on 300 mg/L of the sensing material. In addition, these sensors show high specificity for ampicillin over other antibiotics such as penicillin, tetracycline, amoxicillin, cephalexin, and a non-antibiotic-glucose. This specificity is demonstrated by an enhancing effect when beta-lactamase is used, as opposed to a quenching effect observed at 340 nm in the absorbance spectrum when no beta-lactamase is present. This research highlights the potential of affordable chitosan-capped Mn-doped ZnS micromaterials for detecting ampicillin through simple absorbance measurements, which could improve the monitoring of antibiotics in both clinical and environmental settings.

Objective: Endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) in patients who have undergone Billroth II gastroenterostomy (B-II GE) has been challenging, requiring flexibility in technical approaches during execution. The study aims to assess the effectiveness of enhanced techniques in performing ERCP on this patient group in Vietnam. Method: A total of 42 Vietnamese patients with B-II GE performed an ERCP using a duodenoscope or a modification of ERCP equipment (a cap-fitted regular forward-viewing endoscope) if the former failed. The effectiveness and safety of the ERCP technique were assessed, particularly in patients who underwent the forward-viewing endoscope method. Result: A total of 39 out of 42 patients had the Vater’s papilla identified, among whom 12 patients (30.8%) achieved successful cannulation into the bile duct using a side-viewing endoscope, significantly lower than the success rate using a forward-viewing endoscope (25/27, counted 92.6%, with p

With cancer as one of the leading causes of death worldwide, there is a need for the development of accurate, cost-effective, easy-to-use, and fast drug-testing assays. While the NCI 60 cell-line screening as the gold standard is based on a colorimetric assay, monitoring cells electrically constitutes a label-free and non-invasive tool to assess the cytotoxic effects of a chemotherapeutic treatment on cancer cells. For decades, impedance-based cellular assays extensively investigated various cell characteristics affected by drug treatment but lack spatiotemporal resolution. With progress in microelectrode fabrication, high-density Complementary Metal Oxide Semiconductor (CMOS)-based microelectrode arrays (MEAs) with subcellular resolution and time-continuous recording capability emerged as a potent alternative. In this article, we present a new cell adhesion noise (CAN)-based electrical imaging technique to expand CMOS MEA cell-biology applications: CAN spectroscopy enables drug screening quantification with single-cell spatial resolution. The chemotherapeutic agent 5-Fluorouracil exerts a cytotoxic effect on colorectal cancer (CRC) cells hampering cell proliferation and lowering cell viability. For proof-of-concept, we found sufficient accuracy and reproducibility for CAN spectroscopy compared to a commercially available standard colorimetric biological assay. This label-free, non-invasive, and fast electrical imaging technique complements standardized cancer screening methods with significant advances over established impedance-based approaches.

The food and beverage industry in Vietnam has developed dramatically, resulting in a highly competitive market. To win the competition, the restaurant managers not only strive to increase customer satisfaction but also create customers’ positive electronic Word-Of-Mouth (eWOM). This study aims to investigate the relationship between customer satisfaction, customer trust, customer loyalty, and eWOM. The quantitative method was implemented to examine the hypotheses in the research model. Data were collected from Ho Chi Minh City respondents using a convenient sampling method. Self-administrated questionnaires were delivered via the Internet for data collection. After data screening, 299 responses were qualified for analysis. Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM) analysis was employed by SmartPLS software version 3.0. The measurement model test showed that one item of customer trust has a factor loading of less than 0.7 as a result, this item was removed from the research model. The structural model evaluation revealed the highly predictive accuracy of the model as all dependent variables have R2 values above 0.5. A bootstrapping test with 5,000 subsamples also showed that customer loyalty significantly influences eWOM, but customer trust does not. Customer satisfaction directly and significantly impacts customer trust and loyalty but has little influence on eWOM. However, the relationship between customer satisfaction and eWOM is significant without the presence of customer loyalty and trust. The indirect effect test also determines the full mediation role of customer loyalty in the relationship between customer satisfaction and eWOM.

BACKGROUND: Healthcare-associated infection prevention and control (HAI-PC) education programs in Asian countries seem limited and require improvement and support. OBJECTIVE: This study explored students’ learning experiences with HAI-PC education programs in Asian countries (two Vietnamese and two Cambodian universities) to support a pedagogical model in HAI-PC. METHOD: A qualitative exploratory study design was employed, and inductive content analysis was conducted. Students were selected to participate in the focus group to investigate their experiences with HAI-PC using five structured questions. There were 48 nursing students in total from four universities, 28 from 2 universities in Cambodia, and 20 from two universities in Vietnam. RESULTS: The summary results gained from the four universities were synthesized by grouping them into sub-categories and four primary categories, which were students’ HAI-PC competence, students’ current learning methods in HAI-PC Education, the HAI-PC teaching and learning environment, students’ capacity, and entrepreneurial skills in HAI-PC development. CONCLUSION: This study revealed evidence to improve nursing education in HAI-PC in Asian countries. The new learning method of the simulation scenario and the model fascinated the students; they were happy and more confident about their future careers in practicing HAI-PC skills in their clinical practicum and hospital practice. The current HAI-PC education faces issues related to education and healthcare systems in Asian countries, highlighting the need for improvement.

BACKGROUND: Healthcare-associated infections (HAIs) have posed a major threat to both patients and to the safety healthcare personnel worldwide. According to the World Health Organization, 10% of hospitalized patients are affected by HAIs worldwide. OBJECTIVE: The objective of this study was to explore the experiences of nursing students in learning HAIs prevention and control by the application of the scenario-based simulation pedagogy now in use in two Vietnamese and two Cambodian universities. METHODS: A qualitative study was conducted among 160 nursing students from 2 Cambodian universities and 2 Vietnamese universities, and by using the purposive-sampling method. The data were collected through a focus group discussion and analyzed by the Graneheim and Lundman method (Graneheim & Lundman, 2004). RESULTS: Two themes and six categories were generated. 1) First theme: factors for enhancing student learning on the prevention and control of HAIs by use of scenario-based simulation; and 2) Second theme: factors hindering students learning on HAI prevention and control by use of scenario-based simulation. CONCLUSION: The findings showed that SBS is an effective learning method for nursing students that can be applied to enhance the quality of nursing education in the Asian countries as SBS not only improves the clinical skills, but also the soft skills of nursing students. However, the effective outcomes and impacts can only be achieved in the context with the appropriate learning materials and equipment, simulation facilities and the instructors with pedagogical skills.

BACKGROUND: Applying simulation for nursing education, especially in healthcare-associated infection prevention and control (HAI-PC) in developing countries has limited evidence. The study was conducted to explore educators’ perceptions of simulation as a teaching method for nursing education in HAI-PC in two Vietnamese and two Cambodian universities. METHODS: An exploratory qualitative design was applied. A focus group of 37 educators from four universities was conducted for data collection. Inductive and deductive qualitative content analysis was applied in analysing the data. RESULTS: The core category was constructed to reflect educators’ perception of scenario-based simulation (SBS) as a teaching method for nursing education in HAI prevention and control. This main category included three subcategories: (i) enhancing nursing competence; (ii) preparing students for simulation; and [1] promoting simulation pedagogy competence. CONCLUSIONS: The findings identified the importance and benefits of applying simulation as a teaching method in nursing education. Additionally, it emphasized the necessity of enhancing knowledge associated with HAIs and providing additional training on simulation for educators to improve the quality of conducting simulations.

Heart failure occurs when the heart cannot pump adequate blood to the body, which afflicts over 60 million people worldwide. Its treatment options include physiotherapy, medication, mechanical heart support, heart surgery, or heart transplantation. Ventricular assist devices have direct blood contact while passive ventricular constraint devices have only modest therapeutic efficacy. Current direct cardiac compression devices are either bulky, require noisy driving pneumatic sources, or are unable to mimic the natural heart motion. This study introduces a robotic cardiac compression device made of soft artificial muscle filaments that can simultaneously produce radial, axial, and torsional movements, potentially augmenting the pumping function of a failing heart. An empirical model is developed to describe the device motion and an artificial pericardium is employed to enable uniform force distribution to the heart and real‐time pressure sensing. The proposed device could deliver a stroke volume of 70 mL at 15 beats per minute, or a cardiac output of 1.05 L min−1, and achieve a peak instantaneous flow rate of 2.8 L min−1 and an output pressure of 50 mmHg. The new devices are highly customizable and experimentally validated with fresh porcine heart. They are expected to inspire future development of nonblood‐contacting cardiac assist devices.

Do đó, việc nghiên cứu phát triển phương pháp tổng hợp dị vòng benzimidazole luôn được các nhà khoa học quan tâm, đặc biệt là hướng tới hóa học xanh. Trong nghiên cứu này, quy trình tổng hợp dẫn xuất benzimidazole trong điều kiện không dung môi đã được thực hiện với ưu điểm là sử dụng chất oxi hóa Na2S2O5 rẻ tiền và thân thiện môi trường, không sử dụng dung môi hữu cơ và thời gian phản ứng ngắn. Áp dụng quy trình trên, mười dẫn xuất benzimidazole đã được tổng hợp thành công với hiệu suất khá tốt (51-85%).

BackgroundPathogenic variants in the IGHMBP2 gene are associated with two distinct autosomal recessive neuromuscular disorders: spinal muscular atrophy with respiratory distress type 1 (SMARD1; OMIM #604320) and Charcot–Marie–Tooth type 2S (CMT2S; OMIM #616155). SMARD1 is a severe and fatal condition characterized by infantile-onset respiratory distress, diaphragmatic palsy, and distal muscular weakness, while CMT2S follows a milder clinical course, with slowly progressive distal muscle weakness and sensory loss, without manifestations of respiratory disorder.MethodsWhole-exome sequencing of the IGHMBP2 gene was performed for eight Vietnamese patients with IGHMBP2-related neuromuscular disorders including five patients with SMARD1 and the others with CMT2S.ResultsWe identified one novel IGHMBP2 variant c.1574T > C (p.Leu525Pro) in a SMARD1 patient. Besides that, two patients shared the same pathogenic variants (c.1235 + 3A > G/c.1334A > C) but presented completely different clinical courses: one with SMARD1 who deceased at 8 months of age, the other with CMT2S was alive at 3 years old without any respiratory distress.ConclusionThis study is the first to report IGHMBP-2-related neuromuscular disorders in Vietnam. A novel IGHMBP2 variant c.1574T > C (p.Leu525Pro) expressing SMARD1 phenotype was detected. The presence of three patients with the same genotype but distinct clinical outcomes suggested the interaction of variants and other factors including relating modified genes in the mechanism of various phenotypes.

The rapid and accurate detection of pathogenic bacteria is essential for food safety and public health. Conventional detection techniques, such as nucleic acid sequence-based amplification and polymerase chain reaction, are time-consuming and require specialized equipment and trained personnel. Here, we present quick, disposable impedance sensors based on the novel hybrid MoS2 nanomaterial for detecting Escherichia coli DNA. Our results indicate that the proposed sensors operate linearly between 10- 20 and 10-15 M concentrations, achieving an impressive detection limit of 10-20 M with the highest sensitivity observed at a 0.325 nM probe concentration sensor. Furthermore, the electrochemical impedance spectroscopy biosensors exhibited potential selectivity for Escherichia coli DNA over Bacillus subtilis and Vibrio proteolyticus DNA sequences. The findings offer a promising avenue for efficient and precise DNA detection, with potential implications for broader biotechnology and medical diagnostics applications.

Although sensor technology has advanced with better materials, biomarkers, and fabrication and detection methods, creating a rapid, accurate, and affordable bacterial detection platform is still a major challenge. In this study, we present a combination of hybrid-MoS2 nanosheets and an amine-customized probe to develop a fast, sensitive biosensor for Bacillus subtilis DNA detection. Based on fluorescence measurements, the biosensor exhibits a detection range of 23.6-130 aM, achieves a detection limit of 18.7 aM, and was stable over four weeks. In addition, the high selectivity over Escherichia coli and Vibrio proteolyticus DNAs of the proposed Bacillus subtilis sensors is demonstrated by the fluorescence quenching effect at 558 nm. This research not only presents a powerful tool for B. subtilis DNA detection but also significantly contributes to the advancement of hybrid 2D nanomaterial-based biosensors, offering substantial promise for diverse applications in biomedical research and environmental monitoring.

Abstract Haptic (touch) is important for effective interaction with the surroundings. In teleoperated surgical systems, its absence leads to reduced perception, making delicate tasks difficult and resulting in unexpected damage to surrounding tissues. To enhance safety, a force‐feedback system and haptic device are needed. However, existing haptic prototypes are associated with rigid, bulky, and heavy components, making effective communication with the skin problematic. This paper presents a teleoperated endoscopic surgical system with an integrated 3D force sensor and real‐time haptic feedback. A surgical robotic arm is remotely controlled by a soft haptic glove incorporated 3‐axis cutaneous device and a finger kinesthetic module. The 3D force sensor is constructed from hydraulic filament soft sensors that can induce pressure change under strain. To enable precise motion, the haptic glove is operated by a feedforward controller and a master‐slave architecture. Experiments with human subjects (n = 15) show that cutaneous and kinesthetic feedback significantly improves the user's performance (9.4 out of 10) compared to no haptic feedback (2.27 out of 10). Finally, subjects rank the new system as highly wearable, comfortable, and effective, which is expected to bridge a gap in the surgical field and support the future development of advanced teleoperated systems.

Abstract Members of the NETWORKED (NET) family are involved in actin-membrane interactions. Here we show that two members of the NET family, NET4A and NET4B, are essential for normal guard cell actin reorganization, which is a process critical for stomatal closure in plant immunity. NET4 proteins interact with F-actin and with members of the Rab7 GTPase RABG3 family through two distinct domains, allowing for simultaneous localization to actin filaments and the tonoplast. NET4 proteins interact with GTP-bound, active RABG3 members, suggesting their function being downstream effectors. We also show that RABG3b is critical for stomatal closure induced by microbial patterns. Taken together, we conclude that the actin cytoskeletal remodelling during stomatal closure involves a molecular link between actin filaments and the tonoplast, which is mediated by the NET4-RABG3b interaction. We propose that stomatal closure to microbial patterns involves the coordinated action of immune-triggered osmotic changes and actin cytoskeletal remodelling likely driving compact vacuolar morphologies.

Bài viết tập trung phục dựng sự biến động không gian đô thị Hà Tĩnh từ năm 1831 đến năm 2019, qua đó chỉ ra vai trò của tỉnh lỵ Hà Tĩnh đối với tỉnh Hà Tĩnh trên các phương diện khác nhau.

Abstract Influenza virus is a main cause of acute respiratory tract infections (ARTIs) in children. This is the first double-blind, randomized, and controlled clinical trial examining the efficacy of nasal-spraying probiotic LiveSpo Navax, which contains 5 billion of Bacillus subtilis and B. clausii spores in 5 mL, in supporting treatment of influenza viral infection in pediatric patients. We found that the nasal-spraying Bacillus spores significantly shortened the recovery period and overall treatment by 2 days and increased treatment effectiveness by 58% in resolving all ARTIs’ symptoms. At day 2, the concentrations of influenza virus and co-infected bacteria were reduced by 417 and 1152 folds. Additionally, the levels of pro-inflammatory cytokines IL-8, TNF-α, and IL-6 in nasopharyngeal samples were reduced by 1.1, 3.7, and 53.9 folds, respectively. Compared to the standard control group, treatment regimen with LiveSpo Navax demonstrated significantly greater effectiveness, resulting in 26-fold reduction in viral load, 65-fold reduction in bacterial concentration, and 1.1–9.5-fold decrease in cytokine levels. Overall, nasal-spraying Bacillus spores can support the symptomatic treatment of influenza virus-induced ARTIs quickly, efficiently and could be used as a cost-effective supportive treatment for respiratory viral infection in general. Abstract Extensive research has been conducted over the years on the bacterial degradation of dioxins and their related compounds including carbazole, because these chemicals are highly toxic and has been widely distributed in the environment. There is a pressing need to explore and develop more bacterial strains with unique catabolic features to effectively remediate dioxin-polluted sites. Carbazole has a chemical structure similar to dioxins, and the degradation pathways of these two chemicals are highly homologous. Some carbazole-degrading bacterial strains have been demonstrated to have the ability to degrade dioxins, such as Pseudomonas sp. strain CA10 và Sphingomonas sp. KA1. The introduction of strain KA1 into dioxin-contaminated model soil resulted in the degradation of 96% and 70% of 2-chlorodibenzo-p-dioxin (2-CDD) and 2,3-dichlorodibenzo-p-dioxin (2,3-DCDD), respectively, after 7-day incubation period. These degradation rates were similar to those achieved with strain CA10, which removed 96% of 2-CDD and 80% of 2,3-DCDD from the same model soil. Therefore, carbazole-degrading bacteria hold significant promise as potential candidates for dioxin bioremediation. This paper overviews the connection between the bacterial degradation of dioxins and carbazole, highlighting the potential for dioxin biodegradation by carbazole-degrading bacterial strains.

Vật liệu thủy tinh oxit với thành phần Na2O:Al2O3:BaO:B2O3 (NABB) pha tạp ion Ce3+ với các nồng độ từ 0,1% đến 2,5% được tổng hợp bằng phương pháp nóng chảy. Tính chất cấu trúc của vật liệu được nghiên cứu bằng các phép đo nhiễu xạ tia X (XRD) và phổ Raman. Tính chất phát quang cũng được phân tích dựa trên phổ kích thích và phổ phát quang. Giản đồ nhiễu xạ tia X chứng tỏ rằng vật liệu chế tạo được có cấu trúc vô định hình trong khi đó phổ Raman chỉ ra được các dao động của các liên két trong mạng thủy tinh. Phổ quang phát quang cho thấy, ảnh hưởng của sự thay đổi nồng độ Ce3+ đến sự phát quang của vật liệu. Trong nền NABB bước sóng phù hợp để kích thích các mẫu là 302nm, phổ phát quang của ion Ce3+ trong vùng tử ngoại có bước sóng 352 – 362 nm ứng với chuyển dời 5d à 4f của ion Ce3+ cho thấy, có khả năng ứng dụng để sản xuất LED màu xanh dương ứng dụng trong nông nghiệp hoặc sử dụng trong các thiết bị quang tử.

Abstract Detecting Escherichia coli is essential in biomedical, environmental, and food safety applications. In this paper, we have developed a simple, rapid, sensitive, and selective E. coli DNA sensor based on the novel hybrid-type $$\text {MoS}_\text {2}$$ MoS 2 and $$\mathrm {(NH_4)_6Mo_7O_{24}}$$ ( NH 4 ) 6 Mo 7 O 24 nanosheets. The sensor uses the absorbance measurement to distinguish among the DNA of E. coli, Vibrio proteolyticus, and Bacillus subtilis when implemented in conjunction with $$\text {NH}_\text {2}$$ NH 2 -probes. Our experiments showed that the absorbance increased when sensors detected E. coli DNA, whereas it decreased when sensors detected V. proteolyticus and B. subtilis DNA. To the best of authors’ knowledge, there are no reports using the novel hybrid- $$\mathrm {MoS_2}$$ MoS 2 and $$\mathrm {(NH_4)_6Mo_7O_{24}}$$ ( NH 4 ) 6 Mo 7 O 24 materials for differentiating three types of DNA using cost-effective and rapid absorbance measurements. In addition, the label-free E. coli DNA biosensor exhibited a linear response in the range of 0 fM to 11.65 fM with a limit of detection of 2 fM. The effect of $$\text {NH}_\text {2}$$ NH 2 -probes on our sensors’ working performance is also investigated. Our results will facilitate further research in pathogen detection applications, which have not been fully developed yet.

Abstract The sliding mode control is well-known as a useful control technique that can be applied in several real-world applications. However, a straightforward and efficient process of selecting the sliding mode control gains remains a challenging but interesting topic. This paper investigates a novel gain tuning method for the sliding mode control of second-order mechanical systems. Firstly, we obtain relations between the gains and the natural and damping ratio of the closed-loop system. Secondly, the time constant of the system’s actuators and the system response performance criteria, including settling time and delay time, are taken into consideration to determine appropriate ranges of the gains. These gain ranges allow control designers to select the controller gains in a time-saving manner and ensure that the desired system performance is met and the actuators work properly. Finally, the proposed method is applied to the gain tuning process of a sliding mode altitude controller for an actual quadcopter unmanned aerial vehicle. Simulation and experimental results demonstrate the applicability and effectiveness of this method.

Background: Medication adherence in asthmatic patients enhances the effectiveness of treatments, but some studies in low and middle-income countries still show some limitations. Our study aimed to determine if pharmacist-led interventions could increase medication adherence, improve treatment effectiveness, and relieve symptom severity in outpatients with asthma. Methods: We conducted a randomized, controlled trial on 247 asthmatic outpatients (aged ≥ 16) with a 1:1 ratio randomization at the hospitalization time and repeated after 1-month discharge. The primary outcome was to detect the difference in medication adherence between groups. Adherence was assessed by the general medication adherence scale (GMAS). Data collected by questionnaire was coded and entered into SPSS_20 for statistical analysis; Results: 247 patients (123 intervention, 124 control) were enrolled (61.1% male). After intervention, the adherence rate was higher among the intervention group than the control group (94.3% vs. 82.8%, p = 0.001). Patient behavior and knowledge were enhanced in the intervention group (p < 0.05). Asthma symptoms were relieved in the intervention group (p = 0.014). Pharmacist-led interventions on adherence rate were higher with OR: 3.550, 95% CI: 1.378–9.143, p = 0.009. Conclusions: pharmaceutical intervention could improve medication adherence, treatment efficacy, and the outcome should not be taken for granted; further research should be carried out in this regard.

Abstract Apical periodontitis is a disease caused by bacterial invasions through the root canals. Our previous study reported that lithium chloride (LiCl) had a healing effect on apical periodontitis. The aim of this report is to investigate the healing properties and mechanism of lithium ion (Li+) for apical periodontitis using rat root canal treatment model. 10-week-old male Wistar rat’s mandibular first molars with experimentally induced apical periodontitis underwent root canal treatment and were applied lithium carbonate (Li2CO3) containing intracanal medicament. Base material of the medicament was used as a control. Subject teeth were scanned by micro-CT every week and the periapical lesion volume was evaluated. The lesion volume of Li2CO3 group was significantly smaller than that of the control group. Histological analysis showed that in Li2CO3 group, M2 macrophages and regulatory T cells were induced in the periapical lesion. In situ hybridization experiments revealed a greater expression of Col1a1 in Li2CO3 group compared with the control group. At 24 h after application of intracanal medicament, Axin2-positive cells were distributed in Li2CO3 group. In conclusion, Li2CO3 stimulates Wnt/β-catenin signaling pathway and accelerate the healing process of apical periodontitis, modulating the immune system and the bone metabolism.

Abstract Background While early detection and early containment are key to controlling the African swine fever (ASF) pandemic, the lack of practical testing methods for use in the field are a major barrier to achieving this feat. Objectives To describe the development of a rapid and sensitive point‐of‐care test (POCT) for ASF, and its evaluation using swine whole blood samples for field settings. Methods In total, 89 swine whole blood samples were collected from Vietnamese swine farms and were performed the POCT using a combination of crude DNA extraction and LAMP (loop‐mediated isothermal amplification) amplification. Results The POCT enabled crude DNA to be extracted from swine whole blood samples within 10 min at extremely low cost and with relative ease. The entire POCT required a maximum of 50 min from the beginning of DNA extraction to final judgment. Compared to a conventional real‐time PCR detection, the POCT showed a 1 log reduction in detection sensitivity, but comparable diagnostic sensitivity of 100% (56/56) and diagnostic specificity of 100% (33/33). The POCT was quicker and easier to perform and did not require special equipment. Conclusions This POCT is expected to facilitate early diagnosis and containment of ASF invasion into both regions in which it is endemic and eradicated.

Morphological databases play an important role in linguistic research today. While several exist for the study of inflectional morphology in French, there is still a lack of resources for derivational morphology. This article presents Démonette-2, a new release of the French derivational morphology database Démonette. Developed in the context of the Démonext project, this database provides a framework in which it is possible to integrate various existing derivational resources. Démonette is characterized by its relational nature, which makes it possible to describe an extensive set of word formation patterns, including suffixation, prefixation, and a variety of non-canonical derivational processes such as conversion and parasynthetic formations. It reconciles broad coverage and fine-grained descriptions and is suitable for different audiences: morphologists working in different theoretical frameworks, teachers, speech therapists, NLP specialists, etc. The article presents in detail the structure and content of Démonette, its evolution since the first version, and its query interface.

Non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) is the most common type of lung cancer, accounting for 80%–85% of total cases and leading to millions of deaths worldwide. Drug resistance is the primary cause of treatment failure in NSCLC, which urges scientists to develop advanced approaches for NSCLC treatment. Among novel approaches, the miRNA-based method has emerged as a potential approach as it allows researchers to modulate target gene expression. Subsequently, cell behaviors are altered, which leads to the death and the depletion of cancer cells. It has been reported that miRNAs possess the capacity to regulate multiple genes that are involved in various signaling pathways, including the phosphoinositide 3-kinase, receptor tyrosine kinase/rat sarcoma virus/mitogen-activated protein kinase, wingless/integrated, retinoblastoma, p53, transforming growth factor β, and nuclear factor-kappa B pathways. Dysregulation of these signaling pathways in NSCLC results in abnormal cell proliferation, tissue invasion, and drug resistance while inhibiting apoptosis. Thus, understanding the roles of miRNAs in regulating these signaling pathways may enable the development of novel NSCLC treatment therapies. However, a comprehensive review of potential miRNAs in NSCLC treatment has been lacking. Therefore, this review aims to fill the gap by summarizing the up-to-date information on miRNAs regarding their targets, impact on cancer-associated pathways, and prospective outcomes in treating NSCLC. We also discuss current technologies for delivering miRNAs to the target cells, including virus-based, non-viral, and emerging extracellular vesicle-based delivery systems. This knowledge will support future studies to develop an innovative miRNA-based therapy and select a suitable carrier to treat NSCLC effectively.

This study determines and measures the factors affecting the perception and applicability of fair value accounting by related personnel in enterprises, including business owners, managers, accountants, and internal auditors. At the same time, it analyzes the relationship between applied perception and the applicability of fair value accounting. 808 respondents, working in 350 construction enterprises in Vietnam, participated in the survey. This study combines qualitative and quantitative methods using SPSS and AMOS 20 with different techniques and structural equation modeling. The study results show that the applied perception significantly affects the applicability of fair value accounting at construction enterprises in Vietnam. Besides, eight different factors influence the applied perception of fair value accounting. Notably, six factors positively influenced the applied perception, including usefulness, reliability, cost-benefit relationship, size of the enterprise, qualification of accountants, and independent auditors. In contrast, two factors, legal matters and tax pressure, negatively affected the applied perception. This study suggests that managers of Vietnam’s construction enterprises develop solutions to improve the applied perception and applicability of fair value accounting, thereby perfecting the system accounting and improving business performance. Zinc (Zn) is viewed as a promising anode material for large-scale secondary batteries. However, due to parasitic reactions and uneven Zn distribution during repeated stripping/plating cycles, Zn anodes show inferior performance and stability. To overcome such drawbacks, carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC) as an artificial solid electrolyte interphase (ASEI) is fabricated on a Zn sheet and Zn-graphite composite anode. The roles of CMC-ASEI are examined using X-ray tomography, X-ray absorption near edge structure (XANES) and extended X-ray absorption fine structure (EXAFS). Results show that the carboxyl group in CMC can regulate the flux and local concentration of Zn ions at the surface, allowing uniform Zn dissolution/deposition, and can suppress corrosion by reducing water activities on the anode’s surface. At 5 mA cm−2, the Zn-iodine battery having CMC-ASEI can cycle up to 2,000 cycles. This work provides a simple and scalable solution for advanced Zn anodes for Zn-based batteries.

Rechargeable zinc-based batteries having aqueous electrolytes are renowned as promising alternatives for large scale energy storage systems (ESSs). However, in mild acidic electrolytes, zinc anodes pose several issues that have yet to be overcome. For tackling the major difficulties of zinc anodes, electrolyte engineering is the most practical and cost-effective strategy. Notwithstanding the broad variety of mechanisms associated with different electrolyte additives, the function of a single additive is straightforward. Finding combined additives with broader functionalities and greater efficacy is crucial. In this work, the combination of ionic liquid (IL) 1-butyl-1-methylpyrrolidinium dicyanamide ([BMPY][DCN]) and ethylene glycol (EG) as additives in an aqueous electrolyte 3 M ZnSO4 proves to be an effective strategy for simultaneously enhancing both zinc dissolution and deposition. IL significantly enhances zinc (Zn) dissolution and deposition while EG plays an important role in suppressing hydrogen evolution reaction (HER)and corrosion. Thus, 13.50 % improvement in capacity is achieved by the mixed additive EG + IL/ZnSO4 compared with the 3 M ZnSO4 electrolyte. In the Zn//Zn symmetrical system at 2 mA cm−2, the mixed additive greatly augments the cyclability of zinc, reaching over 400 h while maintaining excellent coulombic efficiency (CE). In-situ XAS and FT-EXAFS analyses confirm the high activities of both zinc oxidation/reduction in the mixed additive electrolyte. Results demonstrate that EG + IL/ZnSO4 can be applied to increase the cyclability of aqueous zinc-based batteries while sustaining high performance.
