The Sparreboom's Crocodile Newt (Tylototriton sparreboomi) is a recently discovered species of crocodile newts from Vietnam and it is currently known only from Sin Ho District in Lai Chau Province. Due to the limited information available on its population status and distribution, the species has been classified as Data Deficient in the IUCN Red List. As a result of our field surveys in 2021 and 2022 in north-western Vietnam, novel data on distribution and population status of and threats to this poorly-known species were collected. We combined the newly-discovered locations with previous occurrence records and used the data as input for modelling the potential distribution of the Sparreboom's Crocodile Newt. The results showed that the Sparreboom's Crocodile Newt’s potential distribution encompasses areas in Lai Chau, Dien Bien and Son La Provinces, Vietnam, as well as a section in Jinping County, Yunnan Province, China. Based on the findings, we suggest that protected areas in the eastern side of Hoang Lien Mountain Range, such as Che Tao, Muong La, Hoang Lien – Van Ban and Bat Xat Nature Reserves and Hoang Lien National Park in Vietnam and Jinping Feishuling Nature Reserve in China be priority sites for the species conservation. Future research and conservation initiatives should prioritise efforts in such areas in an effort to find and protect new populations of the newt.

IntroductionCurrent social issues such as bullying, online violence, and local conflicts are all prominent topics in the field of psychology and linked to dehumanization. However, research on dehumanization from a non-Western background has been rare. As a key factor influencing individual behavior, attachment has not been sufficiently integrated into studies on dehumanization. Therefore, this study provides empirical evidence to explore the relationship between adult attachment (both trait and state) and dehumanization. The sample consisted of college students from China.MethodsIn Study 1 (N = 705) latent profile analysis was employed to exploring the potential categories of trait adult attachment in China, and to investigate how these categories impact dehumanization. Study 2 (N = 281) focused on activating secure attachment and examined the effects of three state attachment types, security, avoidance and anxiety, on dehumanization.ResultsStudy 1 identified four types of adult attachment: preoccupied, secure, fearful, and dismissing, and revealed that these different attachment types have varying impacts on dehumanization. Study 2 showed that both security and avoidance predict dehumanization.DiscussionThis research established a link between adult attachment and dehumanization, offering new insights into the psychological mechanisms underlying dehumanization and suggesting novel strategies for its prevention and intervention.

Background In recent large core endovascular therapy (EVT) trials of large vessel occlusion acute ischemic stroke (AIS), treatment was associated with reduced rates of mortality. Because post‐AIS mortality can be influenced by societal and biological factors that differ between women and men, we investigate sex‐based differences in mortality outcomes following EVT in large core AIS. Methods From our prospectively collected multicenter registry across 4 comprehensive stroke centers in the Greater Houston area, we identified patients from 2017 to 2022 with large vessel occlusion AIS and large infarct core. Purpose: Down syndrome (DS) is one of the most prevalent genetic diseases associated with a variety of ophthalmic disorders, including reported retinal abnormalities. Macular telangiectasia type 2 (MacTel 2) is a late-onset neurodegenerative retinal disease with a substantial genetic component. We hereby describe a case of a female with DS who presented with MacTel 2, and we discuss the possible pathways associating both entities. Observation: We report the case of a 49-year-old female with a medical history of DS and hydroxychloroquine (HCQ) intake. She was referred for HCQ retinal toxicity screening. The multimodal imaging revealed a temporal perifoveal gray area with crystal deposits on multicolor fundoscopy with parafoveal outer retinal atrophy and ellipsoid zone loss with inner retinal cavitations in both eyes on the optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) B scan. The corresponding swept-source OCT angiography confirmed the presence of bilateral macular telangiectasia. Conclusion and importance: Metabolic pathways including serine/glycine and sphingolipids are incriminated in both entities' pathogenesis suggesting a possible association, hence, the importance of raising awareness of this association. More cases are likely to be found since DS patients currently have a nearly normal lifespan. Additional retinal examination of DS adults is then necessary to look for signs of MacTel 2.

Background Computed tomography perfusion (CTP) predictions of infarct core play an important role in the determination of treatment eligibility in large‐vessel occlusion acute ischemic stroke. Prior studies have demonstrated that blood glucose can affect cerebral blood flow. Here, we examine the influence of acute and chronic hyperglycemia on CTP estimations of infarct core. Methods From our prospectively collected multicenter observational cohort, we identified patients with large‐vessel occlusion acute ischemic stroke who underwent CTP with RAPID (IschemaView, Stanford, CA) postprocessing, followed by endovascular therapy with substantial reperfusion (Thrombolysis in Cerebral Infarction 2b–3) within 90 minutes, and final infarct volume determination by magnetic resonance imaging 48 to 72 hours posttreatment. Core volume overestimations and underestimations were defined as a difference of at least 20 mL between CTP‐RAPID predicted infarct core and Diffusion Weighted Imaging (DWI) final infarct volume. Primary outcome was the association of presentation glucose and hemoglobin A1c (HgbA1c) with underestimation of core volume and was measured using multivariable logistic regression adjusted for comorbidities and presentation characteristics. Secondary outcomes included frequency of overestimation of infarct core. Results Among 256 patients meeting inclusion criteria, median age was 67 (interquartile range [IQR], 57–77) years, 51.6% were women, and 132 (51.6%) and 93 (36.3%) had elevated presentation glucose and elevated HgbA1c, respectively. Median CTP‐predicted core was 6 mL (IQR, 0–30 mL), median DWI final infarct volume was 14 mL (IQR, 6‐43 mL), and median difference was 12 mL (IQR, 5–35 mL). Twenty‐eight (10.9%) patients had infarct core overestimation and 68 (26.6%) had underestimation. Compared with those with no underestimation, patients with underestimation had elevated blood glucose (median, 119 [IQR, 103–155] versus 138 [IQR, 117–195] mg/dL; P = 0.002) and HgbA1c (median, 5.80% [IQR, 5.40–6.40] versus 6.40% [IQR, 5.50–7.90]; P = 0.009). In multivariable analysis, underestimation was independently associated with elevated glucose (adjusted odds ratio [OR], 2.10; P = 0.038) and HgbA1c (adjusted OR, 2.37; P = 0.012). Overestimation was associated with lower presentation blood glucose (median, 109 [IQR, 99–132] in overestimation versus 127 [IQR, 107–172] mg/dL in no overestimation; P = 0.003) and HgbA1c (5.6%[IQR 5.1–6.2] in overestimation versus 5.90%[IQR, 5.50–6.70] in no overestimation; P = 0.012). Conclusions Acute and chronic hyperglycemia were strongly associated with CTP underestimation in patients with large‐vessel occlusion acute ischemic stroke undergoing endovascular therapy. Glycemic state should be considered when interpreting CTP findings in patients with large‐vessel occlusion acute ischemic stroke.

Emotion regulation and stress represent two complex, intertwined processes. Yet, there is a paucity of studies examining the effect of stress on emotional regulation among Vietnamese students, specifically the influence of online and offline experimental conditions. This study investigates these dynamics by subjective assessment of the emotional responses of the subjects participating in this study. The research was structured in three primary phases: preliminary, online (conducted via the Internet), and offline (conducted in person) experiments. The preliminary phase (N=16) aimed to validate the appropriateness of the International Affective Picture System (IAPS) picture library and emotional stimulation videos from previous studies. Participants in the online (N=30) and offline (N=45) experiments were divided into control and stress groups, distinguished by the difficulty and urgency of the mental arithmetic task (MAT). Participants were then asked to view photos and videos and to rate their subjective feelings using the Self-assessment Manikin (SAM). The online experimental session revealed that subjects under acute stress exhibited heightened sensitivity, as indicated by increased valence scores in the positive and neutral groups, and decreased scores for negative imagery (Positive: MD=0.292, p=0.0113; Neutral: MD=0.245, p=0.001; Negative: MD=-0.435, p

Information on microplastic pollution in lentic systems is scarce in many Asian countries, including Vietnam. This study investigated the status and characteristics of microplastic pollution in seven urban lakes in Da Nang City, Vietnam. The two surveys were conducted during the dry and wet seasons. The results showed that microplastic concentrations in the surface waters ranged from 293.3 ± 23.1–6510.0 ± 380.4 and 366.7 ± 23.1–1143.3 ± 110.2 items m−3 during the dry and wet seasons, respectively, which is considered a moderate microplastic abundance level in lakes globally. Objectives: SARS-CoV-2 transmission and epidemic potential is related to the population's immunity levels. As such, assessing different regions’ preexisting immune responses to SARS-CoV-2 is important to understand the transmission potential of emerging SARS-CoV-2 variants. Design: In 975 serum samples from Vietnam (2014 to 2019), anti-SARS-CoV-2 Immunoglobulin G levels were determined by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. Plaque reduction neutralization test (PRNT) was performed using Wuhan strain and variants of concern (VOCs). Cross-reactivity was confirmed by analyzing B-cell receptor (BCR) repertoire sequences and identifying BCR repertoire sequences-derived T-cell epitopes. Results: Overall, 20.9% (n = 76/364) and 9.2% (n = 7) demonstrated SARS-CoV-2 neutralizing activity (PRNT50) against the Wuhan and Alpha strain, respectively. BACKGROUND: The extent to which influenza recurrence depends upon waning immunity from prior infection is undefined. We used antibody titers of Ha-Nam cohort participants to estimate protection curves and decay trajectories. METHODS: Households (270) participated in influenza-like-illness (ILI) surveillance and provided blood at intervals spanning laboratory-confirmed virus transmission. Sera were tested in hemagglutination inhibition assay. Infection was defined as influenza virus-positive ILI and/or seroconversion. Median protective titers were estimated using scaled-logistic regression to model pretransmission titer against infection status in that season, limiting analysis to households with infection(s). Titers were modelled against month since infection using mixed-effects linear regression to estimate decay and when titers fell below protection thresholds. RESULTS: From December 2008-2012, 295 and 314 participants were infected with H1N1pdm09-like and A/Perth/16/09-like (H3N2Pe09) viruses, respectively. The proportion protected rose more steeply with titer for H1N1pdm09 than for H3N2Pe09, and estimated 50% protection titers were 19.6 and 37.3, respectively. Postinfection titers started higher against H3N2Pe09 but decayed more steeply than against H1N1pdm09. Seroprotection was estimated to be sustained against H1N1pdm09 but to wane by 8-months for H3N2Pe09. CONCLUSIONS: Estimates indicate that infection induces durable seroprotection against H1N1pdm09 but not H3N2Pe09, which could in part account for the younger age of A(H1N1) versus A(H3N2) cases.

Pair/group work activities are now common in classroom and it is one of the prominent features of the learner-centred approach. This study aimed to investigate (1) teachers' perceptions toward group work and (2) their group work implementations in EFL speaking classes. The data were collected via a questionnaire from 105 high school English teachers within Dong Thap province (one of the remote provinces in the Mekong Delta, South of Vietnam) and video-recordings taught by 4 teachers who had answered the questionnaire and agreed to permit the researchers to record their instructions at 4 different high schools in the province, where they were working full-time. The obtained results showed that most teachers highly appreciated the significance of group work in speaking classes. They generally understood clearly its benefits, possible problems and teacher roles in supporting groups for success and enjoyment. However, for greater effectiveness in group implementation, some suggestions are given.

Background Accelerating door‐in‐door‐out (DIDO) times at primary stroke centers (PSCs) for patients with large vessel occlusion (LVO) acute ischemic stroke transferred for possible endovascular stroke therapy (EVT) is important to optimize outcomes. Here, we assess whether automated LVO detection coupled with secure communication at non‐EVT performing PSCs improves DIDO time and increases the proportion of patients receiving EVT after transfer. Methods From our prospectively collected multicenter registry, we identified patients with LVO acute ischemic stroke that presented to one of 7 PSCs in the Greater Houston area from January 1, 2021, to February 27, 2022. Noncontrast computed tomography and computed tomographic angiography were performed in all patients at the time of presentation, per standard of care. A machine learning (artificial intelligence [AI]) algorithm trained to detect LVO (Viz.AI) from computed tomographic angiography was implemented at all 7 hospitals. The primary outcome of the study was DIDO at the PSCs and was determined using multivariable linear regression adjusted for sex and on/off hours. Secondary outcomes included likelihood of receiving EVT post‐transfer. Results Among 115 patients who met inclusion criteria, 80 were evaluated pre‐AI and 35 post‐AI. The most common occlusion locations were middle cerebral artery (51.3%) and internal carotid artery (25.2%). There were no substantial differences in demographics or presentation characteristics between the 2 groups. Median time from onset to PSC arrival was 117 minutes (interquartile range, 54–521 minutes). The study aims to explore specific factors that affecting the satisfaction of customers buying food with last- mile delivery service on e-commerce platform in Vietnam. The authors develop a research model consisting of 5 independent variables: service capacity of the transport unit, complaint and refund policy, freight cost, the factor about delivery staff, the form of goods upon receipt. The research apply simple random sampling method then conduct data analysis after collecting a sample size of 295 by SPSS 2.0 software. The research model explains 60.9% of the overall relationship of the above 5 factors with the satisfaction of last-mile delivery service when purchasing food. Implications and recommendations for further research are also discussed. The authors also propose some solutions to boost customer satisfaction when buying food for last- mile delivery services on the e-commerce platform. Abstrak dalam Bahasa Indonesia.Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengeksplorasi faktor-faktor spesifik yang mempengaruhi kepuasan pelanggan yang membeli makanan dengan layanan pengiriman last-mile pada platform e-commerce di Vietnam. Penulis mengembangkan model penelitian yang terdiri dari 5 variabel bebas: kapasitas pelayanan unit angkutan, kebijakan komplain dan refund, biaya angkut, faktor petugas pengiriman, bentuk barang setelah diterima. Penelitian menggunakan metode simple random sampling kemudian melakukan analisis data setelah terkumpul sampel sebesar 295 dengan software SPSS 2.0. Model penelitian menjelaskan 60,9% dari keseluruhan hubungan 5 faktor di atas dengan kepuasan pelayanan pesan antar jarak jauh saat membeli makanan. Implikasi dan rekomendasi untuk penelitian selanjutnya juga dibahas. Penulis juga mengusulkan beberapa solusi untuk meningkatkan kepuasan pelanggan saat membeli makanan untuk layanan pengiriman jarak jauh di platform e-commerce.

Prior vaccination can alternately enhance or attenuate influenza vaccine immunogenicity and effectiveness. Analogously, we found that vaccine immunogenicity was enhanced by prior A(H3N2) virus infection among participants of the Ha Nam Cohort, Viet Nam, but was attenuated by prior vaccination among Australian Health Care Workers (HCWs) vaccinated in the same year. Here, we combined these studies to directly compare antibody titers against 35 A(H3N2) viruses spanning 1968-2018. Participants received licensed inactivated vaccines containing A/HongKong/4801/2014 (H3N2). The analysis was limited to participants aged 18-65 Y, and compared those exposed to A(H3N2) viruses circulating since 2009 by infection (Ha Nam) or vaccination (HCWs) to a reference group who had no recent A(H3N2) infection or vaccination (Ha Nam). Antibody responses were compared by fitting titer/titer-rise landscapes across strains, and by estimating titer ratios to the reference group of 2009-2018 viruses. Pre-vaccination, titers were lowest against 2009-2014 viruses among the reference (no recent exposure) group. Post-vaccination, titers were, on average, two-fold higher among participants with prior infection and two-fold lower among participants with 3-5 prior vaccinations compared to the reference group. Titer rise was negligible among participants with 3-5 prior vaccinations, poor among participants with 1-2 prior vaccinations, and equivalent or better among those with prior infection compared to the reference group. The enhancing effect of prior infection versus the incrementally attenuating effect of prior vaccinations suggests that these exposures may alternately promote and constrain the generation of memory that can be recalled by a new vaccine strain.

IntroductionCirculating cell-free RNA (cfRNA) is a potential hallmark for early diagnosis of Alzheimer's Disease (AD) as it construes the genetic expression level, giving insights into the pathological progress from the outset. Profiles of cfRNA in Caucasian AD patients have been investigated thoroughly, yet there was no report exploring cfRNAs in the ASEAN groups. This study examined the gap, expecting to support the development of point-of-care AD diagnosis.MethodscfRNA profiles were characterized from 20 Vietnamese plasma samples (10 probable AD and 10 age-matched controls). RNA reads were subjected to differential expression (DE) analysis. Weighted gene correlation network analysis (WGCNA) was performed to identify gene modules that were significantly co-expressed. These modules' expression profiles were then correlated with AD status to identify relevant modules. Genes with the highest intramodular connectivity (module membership) were selected as hub genes. Transcript counts of differentially expressed genes were correlated with key AD measures—MMSE and MTA scores—to identify potential biomarkers.Results136 genes were identified as significant AD hallmarks (p < 0.05), with 52 downregulated and 84 upregulated in the AD cohort. 45.6% of these genes are highly expressed in the hippocampus, cerebellum, and cerebral cortex. Notably, all markers related to chronic inflammation were upregulated, and there was a significant shift in all apoptotic markers. Three co-expressed modules were found to be significantly correlated with Alzheimer's status (p < 0.05; R2> 0.5). Functional enrichment analysis on these modules reveals an association with focal adhesion, nucleocytoplasmic transport, and metal ion response leading to apoptosis, suggesting the potential participation of these pathways in AD pathology. 47 significant hub genes were found to be differentially expressed genes with the highest connectivity. Six significant hub genes (CREB1, YTHDC1, IL1RL1, PHACTR2, ANKRD36B, RNF213) were found to be significantly correlated with MTA and MMSE scores. Other significant transcripts (XRN1, UBB, CHP1, THBS1, S100A9) were found to be involved in inflammation and neuronal death. Overall, we have identified candidate transcripts in plasma cf-RNA that are differentially expressed and are implicated in inflammation and apoptosis, which can jumpstart further investigations into applying cf-RNA as an AD biomarker in Vietnam and ASEAN countries.

The Vietnamese government has implemented many changes to improve the English competencies of the Vietnamese people. However, the results seemed unsatisfactory because the English as a foreign language teachers had been affected by many external factors. Thus, this study addressed two main research questions, including (1) What external factors affect EFL teachers' responses to English language teaching pedagogical reforms? and (2) How these factors affect different groups of teachers in light of their backgrounds? This study was designed as a mixed-methods approach using a questionnaire and semi-structured interviews to answer those questions. The current study involved 102 EFL high school teachers working in the Southwest of Vietnam. The results showed that the factor on "students' learning outcomes" was the most influential external factor. Besides, the influence level of external factors was differed by the teachers' educational qualifications in the influence level of some external factors, namely "previous educational policies," "students' learning outcomes," and "school facilities." At the end of this paper, some critical discussions, educational implications, limitations, and recommendations for further research are presented.

Introduction: Educational change, particularly English language teaching (ELT) pedagogical reforms, has received much attention from language researchers in the era of globalization and internationalization, especially in Vietnam. Purpose: This study is aimed to investigate teachers' responses to ELT pedagogical reforms, what factors influence the responses, and if there are any differences in these factors among different groups of participants. Methodology: This study was conducted quantitatively, followed by qualitatively, i.e. a mixed method approach. The data were collected from 102 English as a foreign language (EFL) high-school teachers in the Mekong Delta in Vietnam. Findings: The results from the questionnaire and interview revealed that teachers highly accepted ELT pedagogical reforms. Besides that, the teachers were strongly affected by the influential factors, especially students' learning outcomes. Furthermore, the teachers with different educational qualifications were affected by the influential factors at different levels. Finally, the study found that the more teachers were affected by these factors, the more they accepted ELT pedagogical reforms. Based on these findings, implications were made for enhancing teachers' teaching practices in response to ELT pedagogical reforms.

The aim of this study was to create a dynamic web-based tool to predict the risks of methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus spp. (MRS) infection in patients with pneumonia. We conducted an observational study of patients with pneumonia at Cho Ray Hospital from March 2021 to March 2023. The Bayesian model averaging method and stepwise selection were applied to identify different sets of independent predictors. The final model was internally validated using the bootstrap method. We used receiver operator characteristic (ROC) curve, calibration, and decision curve analyses to assess the nomogram model’s predictive performance. Based on the American Thoracic Society, British Thoracic Society recommendations, and our data, we developed a model with significant risk factors, including tracheostomies or endotracheal tubes, skin infections, pleural effusions, and pneumatoceles, and used 0.3 as the optimal cut-off point. ROC curve analysis indicated an area under the curve of 0.7 (0.63–0.77) in the dataset and 0.71 (0.64–0.78) in 1000 bootstrap samples, with sensitivities of 92.39% and 91.11%, respectively. Calibration analysis demonstrated good agreement between the observed and predicted probability curves. When the threshold is above 0.3, we recommend empiric antibiotic therapy for MRS. The web-based dynamic interface also makes our model easier to use.

Introduction Recent randomized controlled trials (RCT) failed to demonstrate the non‐inferiority of skipping IV tPA in patients with planned endovascular therapy (EVT). None of these studies included patients from the US due to regulatory challenges. Given that practice patterns vary relative to Asia, Australia, and Europe, we sought to address this topic using a validated alternative to RCTs, regression discontinuity (RD). Methods From the prospectively collected SVIN Registry encompassing all consecutive patients treated with EVT from 12 centers across the US, we identified patients from 12/2010 – 12/2021. RD design achieves quasi‐randomization and can determine causal effects by analyzing subjects on immediately adjacent sides of a cutoff. Here, we take advantage of the sharp drop in the likelihood of IV tPA treatment at the 4.5‐hour mark from the patients’ last known well time. Subjects immediately on either side of the cutoff have markedly different probabilities of receiving the treatment while sharing similar characteristics in other relevant aspects. Patients were excluded if they underwent EVT after inter‐hospital transfer, were inpatient at the time of acute ischemic stroke (AIS), received IV tPA outside the 4.5‐hour window, or were treated with EVT after the 10‐hour window, as these patients would not contribute to the RD analysis. The primary outcome was a good functional outcome defined as 90‐day mRS 0‐2 and was analyzed using validated RD analysis methods with local linear regressions and triangular kernel weights. Secondary endpoints included rates of symptomatic intracranial hemorrhage and substantial reperfusion. Results Among 961 patients who met inclusion criteria, all 12 EVT centers within the SVIN Registry were represented. The median age was 70 [IQR 58‐79], 48% were female, NIHSS was 17, and the most common occlusion location was M1 MCA (45%). There were no substantial differences in presentation characteristics between patients treated with IV tPA and without. We observed a significant fall (30%) in the probability of tPA around the cutoff time of 235 minutes from the last known well to hospital arrival (allowing 35 minutes for in‐hospital evaluation from the 4.5‐hour cutoff), while there were no significant differences in other relevant features including age, NIHSS, ASPECTS, and final reperfusion grade at the cutoff, validating the underlying RD assumptions (Figure A). In RD analysis, we observed no association between IV tPA treatment and functional independence at 90‐days in patients undergoing EVT (risk difference ‐0.29 (95% CI [‐2.75 to 2.15]) (Figure B), nor in the secondary outcomes of excellent outcomes (mRS 0‐1) at 90 days, mortality, symptomatic ICH or first pass reperfusion. Conclusion Here, we perform what we believe to be the strongest study to date examining the benefit of IV tPA in patients undergoing EVT for LVO AIS in a US‐based cohort, and we find no evidence of association with 90‐day functional independence, consistent with findings of RCTs performed outside the US.

BackgroundThe co-occurrence of substance use disorder and mental disorder, known as dual diagnosis, has a distressingly high prevalence among individuals grappling with either of these conditions. Mood disorders, especially depression, constitute a substantial burden for People Who Inject Drugs (PWID) and a significant public health concern in Vietnam. Identifying risk factors for depression in PWID is imperative for the development of targeted interventions.MethodsWe enrolled PWID into a cohort using the respondent-driven sampling method. Over a 36-month period, we systematically tracked the emergence of depression and employed multiple imputation in conjunction with a mixed nonlinear model to pinpoint risk factors for depression in this demographic. At inclusion, depression was screened using the PHQ-2 questionnaire, and subsequent episodes of depression were assessed semi-annually using the CES-D8.ResultsThree hundred and ninety-one PWID (26.6%) were depressed. Major risk factors for depression included being female, not having a permanent residency, having been hospitalized and using methamphetamine more than weekly. The findings highlight the need to develop innovative targeted psychiatric interventions with the help of supporting peers.

AbstractThis paper investigates the inflation-hedging ability of gold in Vietnam from 2011 to 2022. In order to assess how government management has affected the domestic gold market, two local gold prices (SJC and 9999) were employed. The non-linear autoregressive distributed lags (NARDL) approach is applied to analyze the short- and long-run asymmetry between CPI and gold prices. The result reveals that the relationships between CPI and gold prices are non-linear (asymmetric) and gold can only hedge against inflation in the short run. Additionally, the global gold price fluctuations, combined with limited supply, have created a supply shock, causing domestic enterprises to proactively widen the bid-ask spread in both types of gold to mitigate risks, indirectly exacerbating the local-global price disparities.

Ras-related C3 botulinum toxin substrate (Rac1) is a small GTPase that monitors external signals and activates downstream cascades by transmitting information from membrane-bound receptors to exert its physiological and pathological effects. It is essential for regulating actin cytoskeleton polymerization, organization, function, and dynamics. Rac1 is a widely studied molecule, and its role in various brain disorders and diseases has been studied in rodent and vitro models. This review discusses the involvement of Rac1 in the pathophysiology of neurological diseases, its molecular pathway in different neurological diseases, and its beneficial and detrimental pathophysiological role in different cell-type and neurological disease phases.

English language assumes a pivotal position in the socioeconomic advancement of Vietnam. The adoption of extracurricular mechanisms for English language acquisition is recognized as an innovative and potent overhaul of the pedagogical framework for English learners in Vietnam. This study was executed employing a quantitative methodology to ascertain the perceptions of tertiary level students regarding the advantages and obstacles encountered in their engagement with extracurricular activities directed at English language acquisition. Data was accumulated from 1,032 students pursuing higher education in an institution situated in the Mekong delta, facilitated by a questionnaire. The findings highlighted significant expectations students harbored for these activities. Particularly, they anticipated that engagement in these extracurricular endeavors would yield a positive influence on their linguistic competencies, while also fostering a conducive and collaborative environment for English language acquisition, thereby expanding their social networks with fellow participants. Nevertheless, the participants also acknowledged potential drawbacks. They expressed concern that participation in these activities might be time-consuming and could potentially diminish their motivation to partake, especially if the activities were not in alignment with their individual competencies and areas of interest. The findings of this study propose implications for enhancing the effectiveness of extracurricular activities for English language acquisition. Specifically, adequate financial and human capital investment is crucial, and the activities need to be meticulously planned to avoid an excessive time commitment from the students.

Transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDs) have unique absorption and emission properties that stem from their large excitonic binding energies, reduced-dielectric screening, and strong spin–orbit coupling. However, the role of substrates, phonons, and material defects in the excitonic scattering processes remains elusive. In tungsten-based TMDs, it is known that the excitons formed from electrons in the lower-energy conduction bands are dark in nature, whereas low-energy emissions in the photoluminescence spectrum have been linked to the brightening of these transitions, either via defect scattering or via phonon scattering with first-order phonon replicas. Through temperature and incident-power-dependent studies of WS2 grown by CVD or exfoliated from high-purity bulk crystal on different substrates, we demonstrate that the strong exciton–phonon coupling yields brightening of dark transitions up to sixth-order phonon replicas. We discuss the critical role of defects in the brightening pathways of dark excitons and their phonon replicas, and we elucidate that these emissions are intrinsic to the material and independent of substrate, encapsulation, growth method, and transfer approach.

The present study was conducted to select Streptomyces strains that exhibited characteristics of probiotics for application in aquaculture. Streptomyces were isolated from soil and sediment samples collected from various habitats such as riverside, shrimp ponds, pangasius ponds, mangrove forests, or estuaries along the coast of Vietnam. Two strains of Streptomyces (AG12.2 and ND10.1) were selected due to (1) their potent antimicrobial activity against common pathogens that cause serious diseases in shrimp and pangasius such as E. ictaluri, A. hydophila, V. harveyi, V. parahaemolyticus, and (2) their superior ability to produce several extracellular enzymes that strongly hydrolyze organic compounds such as starch, CMC, and skimmed milk, compared to other strains. AG12.2 and ND10.1 can tolerate salinity from 0 ppt to 5 ppt and pH from 3 to 8; however, their growth is most vigorous at salt concentrations and pH between 0 ppt to 2 ppt, and 7.2 to 8, respectively. In vivo evaluation on L. vannamei in this study shows that shrimp that were fed with diets containing AG12.2 and ND10.1 had WG (%) increasing by 1.59 times and 1.61 times respectively, DGW (g/day) increasing by 1.64 times, and FCR decreasing by 1.30 times and 1.35 times respectively. The shrimp treated with AG12.2 and ND10.1 were then challenged with V. parahaemolyticus, resulting in a survival rate increase of 3.9 times and 3.71 times, respectively. Phylogenetic analysis revealed that strains AG12.2 and ND10.1 belong to Streptomyces kunmingensis and Streptomyces angustmyceticus, respectively. The findings of the present study led to the conclusion that Streptomyces kunmingensis AG12.2 and Streptomyces angustmyceticus ND10.1 are excellent candidates for producing beneficial probiotics for aquaculture. Chikungunya fever is an acute febrile illness caused by the chikungunya virus (CHIKV), which is transmitted by Aedes mosquitoes. Since 1965, only a few studies with limited scope have been conducted on CHIKV in Vietnam. Thus, this study aimed to determine the seroprevalence and molecular epidemiology of CHIKV infection among febrile patients in Vietnam from 2017 to 2019. A total of 1063 serum samples from 31 provinces were collected and tested for anti-CHIKV IgM and IgG ELISA. The 50% focus reduction neutralization test (FRNT50) was used to confirm CHIKV-neutralizing antibodies. Quantitative real-time RT–PCR (RT–qPCR) was performed to confirm the presence of the CHIKV genome. The results showed that 15.9% (169/1063) of the patients had anti-CHIKV IgM antibodies, 20.1% (214/1063) had anti-CHIKV IgG antibodies, 10.4% (111/1063) had CHIKV-neutralizing antibodies, and 27.7% (130/469) of the samples were positive in RT–qPCR analysis. The E1 CHIKV genome sequences were detected among the positive RT–qPCR samples. Our identified sequences belonged to the East/Central/South/African (ECSA) genotype, which has been prevalent in Vietnam previously, suggesting CHIKV has been maintained and is endemic in Vietnam. This study demonstrates a high prevalence of CHIKV infection in Vietnam and calls for an annual surveillance program to understand its impact.

Recent significant changes in technology such as Artificial Intelligence (AI) and big data analysis have a wide impact in many areas of human societies, not least in education. Advances in efficiency of new technologies, with impacts in renewable energy and transport affected by environmental concerns and climate change mitigation, demand a reassessment and adjustment of the industrial structure of the economy. Technological advances enhancing creativity and analytical skills mean people must learn and adapt to a fast-changing economic environment. This paper presents some key changes in Australian educational areas in recent years that are important and relevant to the subject of education innovation and philosophy to achieve outcomes in training and sustainable economic development, as anticipated by the community and government. Education courses and curricula in many countries have been transformed by technological advance. It is the swift incorporation of new technologies that best prepares students for the dynamics of economic and social change. Even though technological responsiveness is not a new phenomenon, it is established that the teaching methods found to be most successful include complementary and supplemental courses producing multi-skilled and creative graduates. These courses are delivered with significant emphasis upon self-development skills and are less focused upon traditional content. A move toward horizontal focus and a student-centric balance is the current trend, displacing vertical over-specialisation of learning. Yet, the central role of educator is seen as still appropriate and necessary where the aim is to equip graduates with creative and adaptive skills.
