Pesticide residues were extracted using the QuEChERS method, followed by detection by ultra-high-performance liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (UHPLC-MS/MS). The non-carcinogenic health risk in adult and child consumers was calculated by target hazard quotient (THQ) and total target hazard quotient (TTHQ) in the Monte Carlo Simulation (MCS) method. The rank order of pesticides detected by UHPLC-MS/MS based on median concentration in onion was tebuconazole (0.004551 mg/kg) > imidacloprid (0.00233 mg/kg) > boscalid (0.00211 mg/kg) > diazinon (0.00079 mg/kg) > thiabendazole (0.00075 mg/kg) > acetamiprid (0.00052 mg/kg) > thiophanate-methyl (0.00052 mg/kg) > dichlorvos (0.000349 mg/kg) > fenitrothion (0.000132 mg/kg) > penconazole (0.00005 mg/kg). The median of TTHQ in adults and children's consumers were 4.00E–3 and 2.00E–2, respectively. TTHQ in adults and children's consumers was lower than 1 value. Hence, consumers were in the acceptable range (TTHQ <1). Consequently, onion consumption cannot endanger consumers' health status due to the pesticide residues. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: Papua New Guinea has a significant problem with stunting, with a prevalence rate of 46.5% in 2018. Objectives: This study aimed to analyze the effect of various factors on stunting in Papua New Guinea in 2018. These factors include characteristics of the child (gender, age, and ownership of health insurance) and household environmental factors such as the mother's education level, number of toddlers in the household, drinking water sources, and availability of restrooms. Methods: This study employed a cross-sectional research design using secondary data from "The Demographic and Health Surveys (DHS) in Papua New Guinea in 2018." The variables of interest were extracted and subjected to data cleaning procedures, resulting in a final sample size of 744 toddler data points available for analysis. The chi-square test and logistic regression were employed for statistical analysis. Results: The study revealed that mothers of toddlers who had never received any formal education were more likely to have toddlers who experienced stunting. The statistical analysis showed a significant association between the lack of maternal education and toddler stunting (p-value=0.012; odds ratio=1.488; 95% confidence interval [1.092; 2.028]). Additionally, toddlers in the age group of 24-59 months were found to be at a higher risk of experiencing stunting. The statistical analysis indicated a strong association between this age group and toddler stunting (p-value<0.001; odds ratio=1.770; 95% confidence interval [1.301; 2.408]). Conclusions: The approach to addressing stunting in toddlers aged 24-59 months emphasizes the implementation of targeted and responsive interventions, with particular emphasis on the significance of investing in the education of toddler mothers in Papua New Guinea. However, in terms of prevention, it is crucial to administer the intervention before the toddler reaches the age of 24-59 months, as stunting is a visible result of long-term malnutrition. The contamination of tea as one most widely consumed beverage in Iran with the potentially toxic elements (PTEs) leads to adverse health effects. In the current study, a meta-analysis and probabilistic risk assessment regarding PTEs concentration in tea samples from Iran were performed using international databases (PubMed and Scopus) and national databases (SID, Irandoc, and Magiran) from 2005 to 1 June 2022. Data were analysed using the random-effects model based on Iranian and imported tea subgroups, and a probabilistic health risk assessment was conducted using the Monte Carlo simulation (MCS). The highest THQ in adults and children due to consumption of Iranian tea was related to As (0.0635) and As (0.2964), respectively, and the highest THQ in adults and children due to consumption of imported tea was related to Cu (0.0266) and Cu (0.1242), respectively. TTHQ in adults and children's consumers due to PTEs ingestion via consumption of Iranian tea was 0.21 and 1.01, respectively, and TTHQ due to PTEs ingestion via consumption of imported tea was 0.22 and 0.94, respectively. Therefore, non-carcinogenic risk in children due to consumption of Iranian tea was higher than 1 value. The mean CR for content of inorganic As in adults and children via consumption of Iranian tea was 2.89E-5 and 1.35E-4, respectively, and the mean CR for inorganic As in adults and children via consumption of imported tea was 9.44E-6 and 4.42E-5 respectively. Hence adults and children, due to both Iranian and imported tea consumption, are at considerable carcinogenic risk. The health risks (non-carcinogenic and carcinogenic risk) were calculated in both adults and children, using target hazard quotient (THQ) and carcinogenic risk (CR). The concentrations of Cd, Pb, and Ni were higher than the standard limits but they did not pose any non-carcinogenic health risks in adult and children's consumers (THQ <1). Meanwhile, the risk assessment of iAs indicates THQ > 1 for children in Egypt. Moreover, the THQ value due to Me Hg for adult in Tunisia and for children in Tunisia, Malta, Portugal, Latvia, Cambogia, Peru, South Korea, Romania, Hong Kong, United Arab Emirates, Morocco, and Egypt was higher than 1 value. In addition, the calculated CR values of iAs for the adults and children were within the threshold risk of developing cancer (Between 1.00E–4 to 1.00E–6). Heavy metals are the most considerable pollutants of marine organisms due to their toxic and cumulative properties. The heavy metal (lead: Pb, cadmium: Cd, mercury: Hg, and tin: Sn) contents were examined in 92 samples of canned tuna from the market in eight Iranian cities using atomic absorption spectrophotometry. In addition, the estimated daily intake (EDI), hazard quotient (HQ) and total hazard quotient (THQ) were calculated. None of the tested samples exceeded the Iran National Standards Organization (INSO) and Codex limits for Cd and Sn. The amount of Pb in the samples from the city of Qom exceeded the allowable limit. HQ percentile 95% of heavy metal for Sn, Hg, Pb, and Cd was equal to 0.0096, 0.185, 0.0099 and 0.0021, respectively. The HQ and THQ was lower than one for all tested heavy metals suggesting that health risk associated with the consumption of canned tuna in major cities of Iran is negligible. Due to the fact that in some samples, and especially that the samples collected from a particular city have a higher level of heavy metals than the standard limits, it is recommended authorities take more control measures to maintain public health. Contamination of food with mycotoxins can pose harmful effects on the health of consumers in the long term. Coffee contamination with mycotoxins has become a global concern. This study attempted to meta-analyze the concentration and prevalence of ochratoxin A (OTA) in coffee products and estimate consumers' health risks. The search was conducted among international databases, including Scopus, PubMed, Embase, and Web of Science, for 1 January 2010 to 1 May 2022. The concentration and prevalence of OTA in coffee products were meta-analyzed according to country subgroups. Health risk assessment was conducted based on Margin of Exposures (MOEs) using the Monte Carlo simulation (MCS) technique. The three countries that had the highest Pooled concentration of OTA in coffee were observed in Chile (100.00%), Kuwait (100.00%), and France (100.00%). The overall prevalence of OTA in coffee products was 58.01%, 95% CI (48.37–67.39). The three countries that had the highest concentration of OTA were Philippines (39.55 μg/kg) > Turkey (39.32 μg/kg) > and Panama (21.33 μg/kg). The mean of MOEs in the adult consumers in Panama (9,526) and the Philippines (8,873) was lower than 10,000, while the mean of MOEs in other countries was higher than 10,000.
