1. The mechanical, transport and chloride binding characteristics of ultra-high-performance concrete utilising seawater, sea sand and SCMs

Abstract: While concrete production accounts for significant CO2 emissions and natural resources (e.g., river sand and freshwater) depletion, the incorporation of sea sand, seawater, and industrial by-products in ultra-high-performance concrete (UHPC) manufacture could offset such impacts. However, the transport and durability performances of marine resource-based UHPC are not well documented. This paper presents an experimental investigation into the mechanical, transport, and chloride binding characteristics of seawater and sea sand-based ultra-high-performance concrete (SWSS-UHPC) with supplementary cementitious materials (SCM) (i.e., slag and silica fume). Mixes were developed with varying proportions of SCMs (up to 62.5%) and sources of aggregates. Early-age and long-term mechanical (i.e., modulus of elasticity, splitting tensile strength) and transport properties (i.e., water absorption, porosity, and ingress of chloride) were evaluated. Non-destructive tests (i.e., ultrasonic pulse velocity, and electrical resistivity) were correlated to the mechanical and durability properties. The chloride binding capacity was determined. Results reveal that although SCMs in SWSS-UHPC marginally improve its mechanical performance, it offers a significant enhancement in transport properties and durability, particularly at 50% cement replacement. The incorporation of marine resources can be beneficial against chloride diffusion and does not adversely affect the binding of external chloride. Electrical resistivity can successfully predict chloride penetration resistance. SCM-based SWSS-UHPC can be extremely durable for long-term exposure in spray and tidal/splash zones of maritime structures.

2. Fresh state and hydration properties of high-volume lithium slag cement composites

Abstract: In this study, the fresh state and hydration properties of 0–60% lithium slag blended cement pastes were investigated at water-binder ratio of 0.47. The workability of the fresh pastes was evaluated by measuring the air content, marsh cone flow, mini-slump flow, setting times, and through rheology tests. A 40% lithium slag cement could produce 91% strength activity index at 28 days; mini-slump pat diameter of 70.54 mm; marsh cone flow efflux time of 145 s; air content 0.6%; hydration heat of 300 J/g (at 72 h). At replacement levels above 40%, the strength activity index, air content, mini-slump flow, hydration heat, and fluidity were significantly reduced. Experimental investigations confirm that the mini-slump test provides the best correlation coefficients (R 2 = 0.96) with the maximum shear viscosity of lithium slag cement pastes than the marsh cone flow efflux time and air content. The classical slump and rheological models were used to characterise the mini-slump, yield stress, and plastic viscosity of low to high volume lithium slag cement pastes. The present study recommends that a 40% lithium slag cement paste is a viable option to produce green concrete for optimum fresh, hydration, rheological, and hardened properties.

3. Workability, strength, and shrinkage of ultra-high-performance seawater, sea sand concrete with different OPC replacement ratios

Abstract: An experimental investigation on the chemical, physical, mechanical, and shrinkage of seawater and sea sand-based ultra-high-performance concrete (UHP-SWSSC) with supplementary cementitious materials (SCM) (i.e. slag and silica fume) is reported. Several mixes were designed with varying proportions of SCMs (25%, 37.5%, 50%, and 62.5% of binder), aggregate source, and water-to-binder ratio. Heat evolution, density, workability, compressive strength development, and long-term autogenous and drying shrinkage of UHP-SWSSC were monitored. Seawater accelerates cement hydration as reflected in the heat evolution, and consequently, dictates the early-age strength, and autogenous shrinkage. SCM addition although limits the early-age strength development offers a comparable 90 days strength. The chloride content increases from marine resources and may limit the application to nonstructural components. Nonetheless, a UHP-SWSSC mix with 50% OPC replaced by 37.5% slag and 12.5% silica fume is recommended in this study, which can achieve satisfactory workability, long-term strength, and shrinkage properties.

Abstract: The CLEO II detector at the e+e− storage ring CESR has been used to search for two-photon production of the fJ(2220) decaying into π+π−. No evidence for a signal is found in 4.77fb−1 of data and a 95% C.L. upper limit on [τγγBπ+π−]fJ(2220) of 2.5 eV is set. If this result is combined with the BES Collaboration's measurement of fJ(2220)→π+π− in radiative J/Ψ decay and the recent CLEO result for [τγγBK0SK0S]fJ(2220), a 95% C.L. lower limit on the stickiness of 102 is obtained. This result for the stickiness provides further support for a substantial neutral parton content in the fJ(2220). © 1998 The American Physical Society.

8. The efficiency of recycled glass powder in mitigating the alkali-silica reaction induced by recycled glass aggregate in cementitious mortars

Abstract: With the potential for a decline in fly ash (FA) production over time, due to the phasing down of coal fired power plants, alternative supplementary cementitious materials need to be identified. The efficiency of pulverised glass powder (PGP) was studied for its reactivity and its capacity for inhibiting alkali-silica reaction (ASR) that results from utilisation of recycled glass as a fine aggregate (sand) replacement. Characterisations of pastes containing PGP reveal that PGP may possess latent hydraulic properties, resulting in a more than 75% strength activity index, together with better strength gain than FA-blended pastes. PGP also offered increased heat of hydration compared to FA, from a combination of the dilution effect, filler effect and early-age reactions of PGP. A comparable efficiency of PGP and FA in ASR expansion mitigation was confirmed with mortar bar expansions of less than 0.10% at cement replacement levels of at least 10%. Both PGP and FA provided alkali dilution and reduced the mass transport in hydrated cement paste from the refinement of larger pores to below 60 nm. The FA mix consumed calcium hydroxide and, thus, performed marginally better than the PGP mix in mitigating ASR. This pozzolanic reactivity is not evident for PGP, whereas in the literature glass powders are often regarded as pozzolanic. Microscopic images confirm that PGP and FA significantly limit the occurrence of ASR gels without altering its composition. It was concluded that PGP is a comparable ASR inhibitor to FA, despite the underlying differences in their mechanisms. The result of this research support the utilisation of recycled glass both as an aggregate, and as an ASR-inhibiting SCM in cementitious systems.

9. A multi-method investigation into rheological properties, hydration, and early-age strength of cement composites with admixtures recovered from inorganic and bio-based waste streams

Abstract: The selection of mineral admixtures to develop low-carbon cement composites must be diversified to balance the increasing demand and low supply of certain widely used admixtures. The research aims to advance scientific knowledge into the comparative influence of several admixtures recovered from different waste streams including silica fume (SF), fly ash (FA), pulverized glass powder (PGP), biochar (BC), and high-performance ash (HPA) on static yield stress, dynamic yield stress, plastic viscosity, setting, micro-structural build-up, degree of hydration and compressive strength of cementitious paste. Experimental findings show that adding 10 wt% silica fume results in a 300% increase in yield stress (under static and dynamic shear rate) and plastic viscosity than control, attributed to its fine particle size and higher gelling rate during early hydration. HPA leads to an 83% increase in static yield stress compared to control at 70 mins, but the application of a high shear rate leads to a marginal increase (18%) in yield stress than control. PGP leads to improvement in workability by reducing the dynamic and static yield stress by 50 – 55% than the control without significant change in plastic viscosity. Comparing the influence of BC, FA, and PGP, which have comparable particle size distribution in this research, the addition of biochar accelerates micro-structural build-up and final setting, evident from higher ultrasonic pulse velocity and faster hydration kinetics by 1.20 h. Cement pastes with FA, PGP and HPA demonstrate significantly lower compressive strength at 3-day and 7-day age than control but offer similar 28-day strength. The addition of SF and BC do not compromise 3-day and 7-day strength while offering 16% enhancement in 28-day strength than control attributed to a higher degree of hydration due to pozzolanic and filler effects respectively. 10. Carbon sequestration in engineered lightweight foamed mortar – Effect on rheology, mechanical and durability properties

Abstract: Enhancing carbon sequestration in Portland cement-based foamed mortar is a potential means to reduce carbon emissions associated with lightweight building components. This research aims to investigate the influence of biochar, prepared from wood waste, in enhancing carbon sequestration in foamed mortar of three target densities – 1150 kg/m3 and 1300 kg/m3 and 1450 kg/m3 respectively through accelerated carbonation (CO2 concentration of 2%) technique. Effect of biochar on rheology, and influence of carbonation on micro-structure, compressive strength, water absorption and shrinkage are investigated. Based on thermogravimetry analysis, carbon dioxide uptake of 26.80% and 30% by mass of cement are achieved in foamed mortar containing biochar, silica fume and fly ash after 7 days and 28 days respectively, which is higher by 3% compared to control (without biochar). Adding biochar to replace 3% by mass of fly ash (density of 1150 kg/m3) and 20% by mass of silica fume (density 1450 kg/m3) improves the workability of foamed mortar mixtures, evident from the 32% and 44% reduction in yield stress up to 35 min from the time of wet mixing. For density groups of 1300 kg/m3 and 1450 kg/m3, addition of biochar reduces water-accessible porosity by 2 – 3%, leading to 17% and 23% higher compressive strength compared to the controls after 28 days of water curing. After carbonation biochar-foamed mortars retain 20–38% higher strength than the respective controls, although reduction in strength by 40 – 60% compared to water curing is observed, ascribed to degradation of hydration products during prolonged carbonation. Addition of biochar results in 10–12% higher shrinkage under an air-drying regime, while it reduces chemical shrinkage associated with carbonation by 15–20% than control. Overall, this study demonstrates a promising potential for developing biochar-enhanced low-carbon lightweight building products.

11. Capturing the early-age physicochemical transformations of alkali-activated fly ash and slag using ultrasonic pulse velocity technique

Abstract: Research has shown that reaction kinetics and physical transformation during alkali-activation of aluminosilicate materials are sensitive to both the compositions of raw precursors and the alkaline solution. Methods that allow for early observations relating to reaction kinetics, and that capture early-age physicochemical transformations with sufficient accuracy, can assist design engineers in bringing this new generation of binders to market. In this study, reaction heat and ultrasonic pulse velocity (UPV) evolutions of low calcium fly ash activated with alkaline solutions of different concentrations, and substituted with various dosages of ground granulated blast furnace slag (GGBFS), were systematically monitored using isothermal calorimetric and portable ultrasonic testing facilities. The incorporation of slag in a fly ash-based system influences the reaction kinetics, rate of physical transformation and morphological features. The study shows that UPV can capture the effect of slag addition on the microstructure densification, which is confirmed by measurements of heat evolution and SEM-EDS microstructural observations. A linear correlation of UPV was identified with the heat evolved. It was further shown that UPV tests can successfully capture workable time of alkali-activated fly ash paste blends that contain at least 10% of slag, noting that mixtures without any slag did not set within the first 24 h of activation. Further, improved dissolution of species, leading to an increased heat evolution, was observed with increasing activator alkalinity. SEM-EDS microstructural characterisation reveals an advanced dissolution of particles in a more alkaline environment, while higher silicate content leads to a more homogeneous morphology. The findings of this research will assist in the utilisation of alkali-activated materials in construction practice.

12. Continuous Monitoring of the Early-Age Properties of Activated GGBFS with Alkaline Solutions of Different Concentrations

Abstract: This study monitors the early-age reaction kinetics and measures the heat of reaction of alkali-activated ground granulated blast-furnace slag (GGBFS) using an isothermal calorimeter, and the initial setting and possible product formations by measuring ultrasonic pulse velocity (UPV). The GGBFS was activated with alkaline activator solutions of different concentrations in terms of modulus ratio (Ms) and Na2O% content. Results reveal that GGBFS is highly sensitive to the compositions of the alkaline solutions. Increasing the alkalinity of the activator results in better dissolution of species and consequently an increased heat evolution with a relatively shorter setting time. The activator concentration also affects the rate of product formations as well as the morphological features. Activators with higher Ms lead to homogeneous slag morphology. The abundance of silicate species in the alkaline solution also plays an important role in its structural formation. scanning electron microscope with energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (SEM-EDS) microstructural characterizations supports the advanced dissolution of particles in a more alkaline environment. The presence of C-(A)-S-H gels in alkali-activated slag pastes was detected.

13. Effects of mixing duration on engineering properties of geopolymer concrete

Abstract: Despite being investigated for over 50 years, the adaptation and application of geopolymers in construction are still very limited. One major reason behind this slow and often underappreciated acceptance of geopolymer concrete in industries is the lack of reports outlining observations and knowledge gained in field applications. Although geopolymers are well-accepted in the research community owing to their comparable or even better performance as a substitution of cement as a concrete binder, major initiatives still need to be undertaken in studying and reporting field observations of this product. The flash set phenomenon of a proven geopolymer concrete mix on a field trial motivated this investigation to identify the effects of mixing duration on geopolymer concrete performance. As such, this paper describes laboratory investigations undertaken to study the fresh, hardened, and durability properties of geopolymer concrete incorporating 65% fly ash and 35% slag, mixed for durations of 1 min and 10 min. The longer mixing duration significantly improved the workable time, at least five times longer workable time was achieved. It also resulted in relatively better mechanical strength and durability. The importance of proper mixing of geopolymer concrete constituents has been emphasized based on knowledge acquired from a combination of field trials and subsequent laboratory experiments.

14. Development of high-density geopolymer concrete with steel furnace slag aggregate for coastal protection structures

Abstract: © 2020 Elsevier Ltd Anticipated changes in coastal wave conditions due to various climate change impact scenarios along coastlines may expose coastal protection structures to greater wave energies and higher damage rates than designed for, especially during episodic storm events. Some existing coastal breakwaters need upgrading to withstand the projected conditions. Breakwater armour unit design equations and physical model tests predict a large gain in stability with a modest increase in the armour material density and indicate reduced armour unit size requirements when utilising high-density concrete. In this study, a high-density geopolymer concrete mix with steel furnace slag (SFS) aggregate was developed based on several trials; the material properties were evaluated for on-site applications under ambient curing conditions. The use of SFS aggregate offers higher bulk density to concrete and mixes were proportioned to achieve good workability and setting time. Most importantly, the fly ash-blast furnace slag blended binder used in this study leads to adequate strength gain in ambient curing and allows the diffusion of the free lime associated with the SFS aggregate into the geopolymer matrix to eliminate the delayed hydration and expansion of the aggregate. This research provides a pathway to both upgradings of existing breakwaters and construction of new structures with a reduction to the carbon footprint in breakwater construction.

15. High-density geopolymer concrete for Port Kembla breakwater upgrade

Abstract: © 2020 Elsevier Ltd Marine environments can pose continuous threats to coastal infrastructure, especially during episodic storm events. Thus, monitoring and maintenance of rock or concrete units-armoured coastal breakwaters are required, especially under present climate change scenarios, where changes in wave behaviour are anticipated and coastal structures are likely to be exposed to even greater wave energy resulting in higher rates of damage. A possible pathway towards the upgrading of existing breakwaters is to introduce high-density armour units, suggested by theoretical estimates and physical model test findings. In this project, a unique, sustainable high-density geopolymer concrete (GPC) mix was developed and trialled in fabricating armour units for upgrading existing coastal breakwaters. The system developed in laboratories was upscaled for field applications and is being tested at the Northern breakwater of NSW Ports’ Port Kembla Harbour. The concrete uses steel furnace slag (SFS) aggregate in an alkali-activated blended fly ash-blast furnace slag binder proportioned to facilitate the elimination of delayed expansion of the aggregate. The concrete properties were measured and microstructural analyses undertaken. The results show that SFS aggregate offers higher bulk density to the concrete alongside satisfactory strength in on-site curing and can reduce armour mass requirements at the same level of structural stability. Microstructural analyses confirm the elimination of SFS aggregate free-lime expansion. 17. Durability of calcium aluminate and sulphate resistant Portland cement based mortars in aggressive sewer environment and sulphuric acid

Abstract: © 2019 Elsevier Ltd This study aims to compare the performance of sulphate resisting (SR) Portland cement mortar (SRm) and calcium aluminate cement mortars (CACm) in both natural sewer environment and sulphuric acid. Specimens were extracted after 12 and 24 months from field exposure, and were also removed from 1.5% sulphuric acid (H2SO4) after 6 months to investigate the deterioration caused by chemically induced corrosion. Visual, physical and extensive microstructural analyses were performed to evaluate the degradation of CACm and SRm matrix using techniques such as Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), Energy Dispersive X-Ray (EDX), X-Ray Diffraction (XRD) and Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR) Spectroscopy. Surface pH was estimated after 12 and 24 months of field exposure to identify the initiation of biotic film development due to microbial induced corrosion (MIC). Material properties such as mass loss, compressive strength, linear expansion, and pH profile with respect to neutralization depth were also measured. The difference in mechanism of deterioration was also highlighted based on microstructural investigations between in field experimentation and acid exposure. The results showed that overall CACm performed significantly better than SRm in onsite sewer environment and sulphuric acid solution in terms of visual observations, loss in mass, compressive strength reduction, depth of neutralization, reduction in pH and penetration of sulphur. Crystallization of gypsum within the matrix of both mixes was the main factor behind the deterioration observed using XRD and FTIR from both in field and acid attack exposure, with higher deterioration within the matrix of SRm as compared to CACm. Moreover, sulphuric acid testing is suitable for screening the mixes rapidly against acidic environment, but due to the major differences observed in deterioration processes with natural field conditions this method is unsuitable for service life design of sewage structures.

Abstract: We have searched a sample of 9.6 million BB-bar events for the lepton-flavor-violating decays B --> h e^{+-} mu^{-+}, B^+ --> h^- e^+ e^+, B^+ --> h^- e^+ mu^+, and B^+ --> h^- mu^+ mu^+, where h is pi, K, rho, and K*(892), a total of sixteen modes. Abstract: In the standard model, the charged current of the weak interaction is governed by a unitary quark mixing matrix that also leads to CP violation. Measurement of the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa (CKM) matrix elements is essential to searches for new physics, either through the structure of the CKM matrix, or a departure from unitarity. We determine the CKM matrix element |Vcb| using a sample of 3 × 106 BB̄ events in the CLEO detector at the ornell Electron Storage Ring. We determine the yield of reconstructed B̄0 →D*+ℓv̄ and B-→D*0ℓv̄ decays as a function of w, the boost of the D* in the B rest frame, and from this we obtain the differential decay rate dΓ/dw. By extrapolating dΓ/dw to w = 1, the kinematic end point at which the D* is at rest relative to the B, we extract the product |Vcb|F(1), where F(1) is the form factor at w = 1. We find |Vcb|F(1) = 0.0431±0.0013(stat) ±0.0018(syst). We combine |Vcb|F(1) with theoretical results for F(1) to determine |Vcb| = 0.0469±0.0014(stat)±0.0020)syst)±0.0018(theor). We also integrate the differential decay rate over w to obtain B(B̄0→D*+ℓv̄) = (6.09±0.19±0.40)% and B(B-→D*0ℓv̄) = (6.50±0.20±0.43)%.

Abstract: The resonant substructure of the decay D0→KS0π+π- was analyzed using the Dalitz technique. Ten contributions were observed including a wrong sign D0→K*(892)+π- amplitude with a significance of 5.5 standard deviations.

Abstract: The three-body decay Β→K0π+π- with a branching fraction (50-9+10±7)X10-6 was observed. A simultaneous analysis of the Dalitz plots for this decay and for Β→K+π-π0 revealed the presence of Β→K*+(892)π- with a branching fraction (16-5+6±2)X10-6, which is larger than but consistent with most theoretical predictions.

Abstract: Using data collected by the CLEO detector in the Upsilon(4S) region, we report new measurements of the exclusive decays of B mesons into final states of the type Lambda_c^+ p-bar n(pi), where n=0,1,2,3. We find signals in modes with one, two and three pions and an upper limit for the two body decay Lambda_c^+ pbar. We also make the first measurements of exclusive decays of B mesons to Sigma_c p-bar n(pi), where n=0,1,2. We find signals in modes with one and two pions and an upper limit for the two body decay Sigma_c p-bar. Abstract: The ratios of the branching fractions and the combined branching fraction ratio was measured. The decay rate measured in this work consisted with the lattice gauge calculations and ISGW2 model prediction. The ratio of the vector and pseudoscalar decay widths was consistent with the predictions of quark models.

Abstract: The ratio of charged and neutral B meson production at the γ(4S), f +-/f 00, is measured through the decays B̄→D*ℓ -ν̄ ℓ, reconstructed using a partial reconstruction method where the D* is detected only through a pion daughter from the decay D*→Dπ. Using data collected by the CLEO II detector, the charged and neutral B decays are measured in such a way that their ratio is independent of the decay model, limited mainly by the uncertainty in the relative efficiency for detecting neutral and charged pions. This measurement yields the ratio of production fractions times the ratio of semileptonic branching fractions, f +-b +/f 00b 0. Assuming that b +/b 0 is equal to the lifetime ratio τ +/τ 0 and using the world average value of τ +/τ 0 as input, we obtain f +-/f 00= 1.058±0.084±0.136. © 2002 The American Physical Society.

Abstract: In e(+)e(-) collisions using the CLEO detector, we have studied the decay of the D0 to the final state K(0)(S)pi(+)pi(-) with the initial flavor of the D0 tagged by the decay D(*+)-->D0pi(+). We use the Dalitz technique to measure the resonant substructure in this final state and clearly observe ten different contributions by fitting for their amplitudes and relative phases. We observe a K(*)(892)(+)pi(-) component which arises from doubly Cabibbo suppressed decays or D0-D0; mixing.

Abstract: We report a new measurement of the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa parameter Vub made with a sample of 9.7 x 10(6) BB- events collected with the CLEO II detector. Using heavy quark theory, we combine the observed yield of leptons from semileptonic B decay in the end-point momentum interval 2.2-2.6 GeV/c with recent CLEO II data on B-->X(s)gamma to find Vub = (4.08+/-0.34+/-0.44+/-0.16+/-0.24)x10(-3), where the first two uncertainties are experimental and the last two are from theory.

Abstract: We describe several measurements using the decays D0→K+K- and π+π-. We find the ratio of partial widths, Γ(D0→K+K-)/Γ (D0→π+π-), to be 2.96±0.16±0.15, where the first error is statistical and the second is systematic. We observe no evidence for direct CP violation, obtaining ACP(KK)=(0.0±2.2±0.8)% and ACP(ππ)=(1.9±3.2±0.8)%. In the limit of no CP violation we measure the mixing parameter yCP=-0.012±0.025±0.014 by measuring the lifetime difference between D0→K+K- or π+ π- and the CP neutral state, D0→K-π+. We see no evidence for mixing.

Abstract: Using data recorded by the CLEO II and CLEO II.V detector configurations at CESR, we report new measurements of the masses of the ∑c++ and ∑c0 charmed baryons, and the first measurements of their intrinsic widths. We find M(∑c++)-M(Λc+) =167.4±0.1±0.2 MeV, Γ(∑c++)=2.3±0.2±0.3 MeV, and M(∑c0) -M(Λc+)=167.2±0.1±0.2 MeV, Γ(∑c0)=2.5±0.2±0.3 MeV, where the uncertainties are statistical and systematic, respectively.

Abstract: Continuing our studies of radiative Υ decays, we report on a search for Υ→γη and fj(2220) in 61.3 pb-1 of e+e- data taken with the CLEO II detector at the Cornell Electron Storage Ring. For the γη search the three decays of the η meson to π+ π- π0, π0 π0 π0, and γγ were investigated. We found no candidate events in the (3 π)0 modes and no significant excess over expected backgrounds in the γγ mode to set a limit on the branching fraction of B(Y→γη)< 2.1 × 10-5 at 90% C.L. The three charged two-body final states hh̄(h = π+, K+, p) were investigated for fj(2220) production, with one, one, and two events found, respectively. Limits at 90% C.L. of B(Υ→γfj) × B(fj→hh̄) ∼ 1.5 × 10-5 have been set for each of these modes. We compare our results to measurements of other radiative Υ decays, to measurements of radiative J/ψ decays, and to theoretical predictions.

Abstract: The exclusive decays B̄ → D(*)K*-, using 9.66 × 106 BB̄ pairs collected at the γ(4S) with the CLEO detector was reported. Some branching fractions were measured such as β(B- → D0K*-) = (6.1 ± 1.6 ± 1.7) × 10-4. It was found that the B̄ → D*K*- branching ratios were averages of those corresponding to the 00 and 11 helicity states.

Abstract: We have studied the color-suppressed hadronic decays of neutral B mesons into the final states D*0pi(0). Using 9.67 x 10(6) BB pairs collected with the CLEO detector, we observe the decays B( 0) --> D0pi(0) and B( 0) -->D(*0)pi(0) with the branching fractions BB( 0) -->D0pi(0)) = (2.74(+0.36)(-0.32) +/- 0.55)x10(-4) and BB( 0) -->D(*0)pi(0)) = (2.20(+0.59)(-0.52) +/- 0.79)x10(-4). The first error is statistical and the second systematic. The statistical significance of the D0pi(0) signal is 12.1sigma ( 5.9sigma for D(*0)pi(0)). Utilizing the B( 0) -->D*0)pi(0) branching fractions we determine the strong phases delta(I,D(*)) between isospin 1/2 and 3/2 amplitudes in the Dpi and D*pi final states to be cosdelta(I,D) = 0.89 +/-0.08 and cosdelta(I,D*) = 0.89 +/- 0.08, respectively.

Abstract: The Ξc+ lifetime is measured using 9.0 fb-1 of e+e- annihilation data collected on and just below the Υ(4S) resonance with the CLEO II.V detector at CESR. This is the first measurement of the Ξc+ lifetime from a collider experiment. Using an unbinned maximum likelihood fit, the Ξc+ lifetime is measured to be 503 ±47(stat) ± 18(syst) fs. The precision of this measurement is comparable to previous measurements carried out by fixed target experiments with different sources of systematic uncertainties.

Abstract: We present new measurements of branching fractions for the color-favored decays B + → D 0π - and B̄ 0 → D +π -. Using 9.67×10 6 BB̄ pairs collected with the CLEO detector, we obtain the branching fractions Β(B - → D 0π - = (49.7±1.2±2.9±2.2)×10 4 and Β(B̄ 0 → D +π -) = (26.8±1.2±2.4±1.2)×10 -4. The first error is statistical, the second is systematic, and the third is due to the experimental uncertainty on the production ratio of charged and neutral B mesons in Y(4S) decays. These results, together with the current world average for the color-suppressed branching fraction Β(B̄ + → D 0π 0), are used to determine the cosine of the strong phase difference δ I between the I = 1/2 and I=3/2 isospin amplitudes. We find cos δ I = 0.863 -0.023-0.035-0.030+0.024+0.036+0.038, and obtain a 90% confidence interval of 16.5° < δ I < 38.1°. This nonzero value of δ I suggests the presence of final state interactions in the D π system. © 2002 The American Physical Society.

Abstract: We report on the observation of B0 → D *0 π+ π+ π- π- decays. The branching ratio is (0.30±0.07 ±0.06)%. Interest in this particular mode was sparked by Ligeti, Luke and Wise who propose it as a way to check the validity of factorization tests in B̄0 → D*0 π+ π- π- π0 decays.
