This paper analyses electromagnetic (EM) wave propagation within a metasurface-cladded waveguide filled with magnetized plasma. First, an analytical model is developed to understand the governing dynamics of the system. Second, a realistic numerical design is presented to assess the feasibility of the proposed concept. This technology targets microwave-driven plasma production, with the cladding metasurface enabling control over the cut-off frequency of the waveguide. Results suggest that EM propagation can be triggered regardless of the value of the static magnetic induction field. This represents a significant advance over standard implementations, promoting system miniaturization and facilitating the integration of waveguides with plasma sources.

The present paper studies the formation and characteristics of dust-ion-acoustic solitary waves of small amplitude in a multi-component warm magnetized plasma having inertial positive and negative ions together with negatively charged static dusts under the influences of inertial elections, considering a three-dimensional fluid dynamical model with the Poisson equation. We consider a uniform external magnetic field along the z-direction, and the wave propagation occurs obliquely to the direction of the magnetic field. Precisely, the reductive perturbation method is applied to derive the Korteweg-de Vries equations and obtained the solitary wave solution to investigate the variations in wave nature caused by different physical parameters. This theoretical study shows the coexistence of compressive and rarefactive dust-ion-acoustic solitons in the plasma. Depending on Q (=negative-to-positive ion mass ratio) and various ion temperatures, compressive solitons for Q < 1 and rarefactive solitons for Q > 1 are shown to exist. Additionally, the domination of different physical parameters of our plasma on the propagation of oblique dust-ion-acoustic solitary waves is numerically analyzed within the paper. Introduction: Developing a quantitative understanding of wave plasma processes in the lower ionosphere requires a reasonably accurate theoretical description of the underlying physical processes. For such a highly collisional plasma environment as the E-region ionosphere, kinetic theory represents the most accurate theoretical description of wave processes. For the analytical treatment, however, collisional kinetic theory is extremely complicated and succeeds only in a limited number of physical problems. To date, most research has applied oversimplified fluid models that lack a number of critical kinetic aspects, so the coefficients in the corresponding fluid equations are often accurate only to an order of magnitude. Methods: This paper presents a derivation for the highly collisional, partially magnetized case relevant to E-region conditions, using methods of the collisional kinetic theory with a new set of analytic approximations. Results: This derivation provides a more accurate reduction of the ion and, especially, electron kinetic equations to the corresponding 5-moment fluid equations. It results in a more accurate fluid model set of equations appropriate for most E-region problems. Discussion: The results of this paper could be used for a routine practical analysis when working with actual data. We report the results of numerical simulation of the generation of intense low-frequency Alfvén waves produced by periodic laser plasma bunches under conditions of substantially pre-Alfvén expansion at Mach numbers MA ≤ 0.2. In this work, we have studied the propagation of nonlinear electrostatic shock waves in an anisotropically pressured magnetized plasma containing positive and negative ions, trapped electrons, and positrons. A reductive perturbation technique is used to generate the trapped Zakharov-Kuznetsov Burgers' equation is generated for nonlinear analysis. We study and debate the effects of positron and electron trapping on shock structures. In addition, the influence of an external magnetic field and an anisotropic pressure on the shock waves for both positive and negative ions is thoroughly discussed. It is shown that the amplitude and magnitude of the shock wave are affected by changes in the bulk viscosity and kinematic viscosity for both ions. The paper examines the unique characteristics of rarefactive shock-like formations under various plasma conditions, including ion bulk and kinematic viscosities, electrons and positron trapping with the influence of magnetic fields. This result of this study will provide a better understanding of the nonlinear transmission of ion acoustic shock waves in astrophysical environments, such as neutron stars and pulsar magnetospheres. In this manuscript, a theoretical investigation of SPPs generated at magnetized plasma–graphene interface is presented. To model graphene conductivity, Kubo formula is utilized, and impedance boundary conditions are applied to obtain dispersion relation. In the presence of strong anisotropy of the plasma medium, the behaviors of the lower and upper plasmon modes are demonstrated. By examining the dispersion relation, it has been shown that upper and lower modes strongly depend on graphene and plasma features. It has been shown that effective mode index and phase velocity of proposed structure can be tuned by tuning graphene and magnetized plasma features. The proposed model may be exploited for a variety of applications, including sensing and integrated plasmonic circuits in the THz spectrum. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

We highlight the recent progress in the calculation of transport coefficients pertinent to binary neutron star mergers. Specifically, we analyze the bulk viscosity coefficient driven by both the DURCA and MURCA processes and electron transport coefficients in dense and hot plasma relevant to the merger scenario. The study considers high temperatures ( T > 6 × 10 10 K) and dense environments ( n B ∼ n 0 − 3 n 0 ). Bulk viscosity exhibits resonant behavior, with peak values and peak positions dependent on particle interaction rates and thermodynamic susceptibilities. Susceptibilities are calculated by modeling the nuclear matter in the density functional approach. The bulk viscosity coefficient peaks at T ∼ 10 11 K, with a compression–rarefaction oscillation dissipation time scale of 20–50 ms. Electrical transports incorporate frequency-dependent dynamical screening in quantized electron–ion scattering rates. Consequently, dynamical screening reduces the maxima of electrical and thermal conductivities, shortening corresponding dissipation time scales. Utilizing the reductive perturbation method, to derive KdV and modified KdV equations and obtain the DIA soliton solutions along with the corresponding small amplitude potentials. This study shows that there are compressive and/or rarefactive solitons and no soliton at all, due to the parametric dependency on the first-order nonlinear coefficient through the number density of positive ions and negative dust grains and the electron nonextensivity. The coexistence of compressive and rarefactive solitons appears by raising the measure of nonlinearity coefficient to the second-order using the modified KdV equation. The properties such as speed, amplitude, width etc. of the propagating soliton are numerically discussed.

Enhancing the terahertz emission at hybrid resonant frequencies is observed from a warm collisional inhomogeneous plasma irradiated by intense laser beams in the presence of an external transverse magnetic field. To reach this result, we utilize the dielectric permittivity tensor of the plasma affected by the strength and the direction of the magnetic field and analyze the nonlinear current density induced by the ponderomotive force due to the beating of two Gaussian laser beams. The calculations reveal resonance emission at several frequencies, which depend on the thermal speed of the electrons, the wavenumber, the electron plasma frequency, the collision frequency, and the cyclotron frequency. Our research demonstrates that positive and negative ions, along with trapped electrons and positrons, propagate as small-amplitude electrostatic shock waves in a magnetized collisions-less plasma. The trapped Korteweg-de Vries Burger's (T-KdVB) equation was derived by the widely recognized standard reductive perturbation technique (RPT), employing two separate scales of standard coordinates. The study examines the impact of temperature ratio on the shock wave characteristics of positive and negative ions, as well as positrons with electrons. The analysis and discussion focus on the impacts of negative ion number densities, as well as the number densities of electrons and positrons. The T-KdVB equations are responsible for governing rarefactive shock waves. Additionally, it is important to acknowledge that nonlinearity and dissipation play a key role in controlling the amplitude of the shock.

Nonreciprocal materials and devices play an irreplaceable role in isolating, routing, and multiplexing. However, in the terahertz (THz) band, their active control mechanisms are still limited. Herein, a THz nonreciprocal photonic spin transmission is demonstrated in the undoped InSb actively manipulated by a light‐magneto‐joint modulation method, in which THz cyclotron resonance of the photoinduced carriers is conjunctively excited by both pump laser and external magnetic field. Moreover, a diffusion model of photoinduced non‐equilibrium carriers and its nonreciprocal dispersion model of magnetized plasma are established to interpret the experimental observation. The results indicate that the light‐magneto‐joint modulation achieves a broadband amplitude‐phase modulation with a higher modulation depth (>2π rad phase shift), as well as an active nonreciprocal spin transmission with magnetic circular dichroism (>20dB) and the Faraday rotation effect (>90°) in InSb, which is more efficient and faster than the traditional thermal excitation. Furthermore, the demonstration in a single‐frequency THz transmission system shows that this light‐magneto‐joint modulation mechanism in InSb can be multifunctionally applied in active control, isolation, and polarization conversion. A propagation of ultrawideband electromagnetic pulses (UWB EMPs) through magnetized plasma has been experimentally studied using a "gigantic" coaxial line, which has been developed at IAP RAS for laboratory modeling of ionospheric effects. This coaxial line is 1.4 m in diameter and 10 m in length and is installed inside the chamber of the large-scale Krot plasma device. The line can be filled with rf inductively coupled plasma, magnetized or not. It allows one to explore the propagation of UWB EMPs in plasma along a long path without refraction and divergence and obtain a physical picture of EMP transformation. Under conditions where the duration of the UWB EMP is comparable to the period of electron plasma oscillations (fp−1), the period of cyclotron rotation of electrons (fc−1), or even significantly shorter, a complex of effects of transformation of the waveform and frequency spectrum of the pulse occurs. Without ambient magnetic field, a UWB EMP is distorted due to the effects of the cutoff and frequency dispersion. In dense magnetized plasma, i.e., when fp >> fc, the UWB EMP breaks into two wave packets, the high-frequency one (f > fp) and low-frequency one (f < fc). In rare magnetized plasma (fp << fc), the cyclotron absorption produces a long train of damped oscillations at a frequency close to the cyclotron frequency fc following the UWB EMP. The nonlinear absorption in the interaction of an intense laser pulse with a collisional magnetized plasma is studied by considering the effects of plasma inhomogeneity, ohmic heating, and ponderomotive force. For this purpose, we obtain the plasma electron density, the effective dielectric permittivity, and the wave equation using the Maxwell and hydrodynamic equations and solve this equation by the Runge–Kutta numerical method. The results are shown that by increasing the plasma inhomogeneity, the inverse bremsstrahlung absorption coefficient is increased, and also the density ramp parameter σ1$$ \left({\sigma}_1\right) $$ and its sign can affect more the absorption coefficient than the temperature ramp parameter σ2$$ \left({\sigma}_2\right) $$. However, when the initial electron density and temperature increase, the laser field amplitude and the absorption coefficient are increased and the spatial damping rate of the laser pulse becomes highly peaked inside the plasma. It is shown by increasing laser pulse energy, the nonlinear bremsstrahlung absorption coefficient is decreased significantly. The results also indicate that by increasing the external magnetic field, the dielectric permittivity is decreased while the laser energy spatial damping, and the absorption coefficient are increased. Moreover, it is found that by considering the ohmic heating effect, the electrons absorb further energy from the fields and consequently the nonlinear absorption is increased. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The existence of arbitrary amplitude dust kinetic Alfvén wave has been studied in a three-component plasma with magnetized cold dust and non-thermally distributed ions and electrons. In order to study the non-linear behavior of dust kinetic Alfvén waves, the Sagdeev potential method is used. The existence domain of the solitary wave has been established. An analysis is performed for the possibility of controlling the spectral and polarization properties of THz pulses propagating in strongly nonequilibrium extended magnetized plasma channels formed by intense UV femtosecond laser pulses in nitrogen (air). The formation of quasiunipolar pulses with a nonzero electric area and a specific state of polarization is discussed. The mutual interaction of drift wave-type modes and zonal flows causes the formation of higher-order nonlinear structures. This study focuses on the spatio-temporal behavior of these higher-order structures in a linear magnetized plasma. The structures include a solitary vortex, a long-lived circumnavigating motion localized both radially and azimuthally, and a short-lived packet of finer-scale fluctuations excited at the position of the solitary vortex. Observing the time evolution of the two-dimensional cross-sectional structures revealed that the packet of finer-scale fluctuations is trapped in the solitary vortex. This research proposes and investigates an elliptical waveguide filled with chiro plasma as its core and magnetized plasma as its clad region. The clad region is in the constant infinite magnetic field, and its direction is the same as the wave propagation in the chiro plasma elliptical waveguide. The electromagnetic wave propagation in the considered waveguide is studied. The expressions for electromagnetic field components in the chiro plasma core and magnetized plasma cladding are derived. The dispersion relations for the hybrid modes are calculated considering appropriate boundary conditions at the chiro plasma and magnetized plasma interface. The behavior of the energy flux and the dispersion curves are numerically and graphically studied. It is seen that the magnitude of the power density decreases with the increase of the cyclotron frequency and it increases with the increase of the plasma frequency and supports power flow in the backward direction for the considered mode. Furthermore, it is shown higher values of the chirality parameter cause the magnitude of the power flux to increase in the backward direction. We examine the impact of the hot drifting electron on stimulated Raman backscattering, which is coupled to decay instability, in a magnetized plasma. Through parametric coupling, this produces a plasma wave that moves forward and an electromagnetic wave that shifts downward. The plasma wave produced by stimulated Raman scattering (SRS) in this process decays into an ion-acoustic wave and a secondary, longer-wavelength Langmuir wave traveling opposite to the ion-acoustic wave. This energy diversion and attenuation of the primary Langmuir wave by drifting electrons limit the amplitude of SRS. In the presence of drifting electrons, the SRS is suppressed significantly and the plasma wave is attenuated resonantly at a higher rate. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The possibility of creating conditions for observing relativistic magnetic reconnection using two laser pulses of the XCELS facility being designed is analyzed. The necessary conditions are supposed to be created in a scheme, where magnetized plasma flows are generated on the back surface of thin solid targets due to beams of high-energy electrons injected into the depth of the target by the laser pulse fields and forming a strong current on the system symmetry axis. It is shown that in this case it is possible to obtain dense plasma bunches with a relatively low (of the order of several megaelectronvolts) temperature and a frozen-in magnetic field of the order of tens of kilotesla, so that the magnetization parameter will be several units. Magnetized plasmas are well known to exhibit a rich spectrum of collective modes. Here, we focus on the density modes in dense or cold plasmas, where strong coupling effects alter the mode spectrum known from traditional weakly coupled plasmas. In particular, we study the dynamic structure factor (DSF) of the magnetized one‐component plasma with molecular dynamics simulations. Extending our previous results (H. Kählert and M. Bonitz, Phys. Rev. Research 2022, 4, 013197), it is shown that Bernstein modes can be observed in the weakly magnetized regime, where they are found below the upper hybrid frequency, provided the coupling strength is sufficiently low. We investigate the DSF for a variety of different wave numbers and plasma parameters and show that even small magnetization can give rise to a strong zero‐frequency mode perpendicular to the magnetic field and change the dispersion as well as the damping of the upper hybrid mode. This study employs three advanced computational and numerical techniques to solve the nonlinear fractional modified Korteweg–de Vries–Zakharov–Kuznetsov (mKdV–ZK) equation in magnetized plasma. The reductive perturbation approach is utilized to investigate the dynamics of various components, namely isothermal species, immobile background species, and warm adiabatic fluid, in magnetized plasma. Emphasis is placed on unraveling the asymmetrical propagation characteristics of nonlinear electrostatic waves. The model's solutions encompass diverse types of solitons, including ion-acoustic, dust acoustic, and electron acoustic solitons. Analytical solutions are obtained using a variety of mathematical functions, such as exponents, trigonometry, and hyperbolas. Two- and three-dimensional density graphs illustrate the practical behavior of a single soliton. The primary objective of employing numerical schemes is to assess the accuracy of the derived solutions, and the outcomes demonstrate the efficacy of the analytical method in solving nonlinear mathematical and physical problems. Several techniques are employed to validate the consistency between calculated and estimated results, ensuring the study's accuracy and reliability. Overall, this investigation underscores the effectiveness of numerical and analytical techniques in tackling complex mathematical models, offering a promising avenue for future research in the field. In this study, the effect of environment gas and working pressure of laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy from ZnO: Al composite target (AZO) enhanced by an external magnetic field on the magnetized characteristics and emission spectra of plasma were investigated. The plasma was induced by a Q-switched nanosecond Nd: YAG laser at a constant pulse laser energy of 300 mJ at different pressures of 0.08, 0.2, 0.4, and 760 Torr in air and argon gas. The atomic and ionic emission lines increased in intensity directly with the working pressure. The plasma temperature (Te) and electron number density (ne) were determined at the different environmental conditions according to the intensity-ration method, and Stark broadening effect, respectively. Both ne and Te increased with increasing pressure and with the presence of magnetic field as a result of confining effect. The line profile appeared with high broadening at atmospheric pressure compared with vacuumed plasma. The Larmur radius and confinement factor β increased with working pressure. From another hand, using Ar instead of air caused slightly reduced ne at low pressure, while Te has the opposite behavior. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In the present work, electromagnetic waves propagation in elliptical and circular waveguides filled with a magnetized plasma core and an outer perfect electromagnetic conductor boundary are presented. The components of electromagnetic fields and the power flux density in the considered waveguides are presented. The dispersion relations for the hybrid modes are calculated considering appropriate boundary conditions. The basic properties of dust acoustic (DA) waves in magnetized three component plasmas with fully non-linear mobile dust components and non-thermal ions and electrons is theoretically investigated. We have adopted the pseudopotential (Sagdeev potential) approach to establish the existence of parametric domain for solitons. High-amplitude subsonic rarefactive solitons are seen produced which are affected by the direction of magnetic field. This paper presents a scheme for the generation of terahertz (THz) field by self-focusing of a cosh-Gaussian laser beam in the magnetized and rippled density plasma, when relativistic nonlinearity is operative. Relativistic self-focusing occurs when the quivering motion of electrons modifies the refractive index of the plasma at high laser intensities. The strong coupling between self-focused cosh-Gaussian laser beam and the pre-existing density ripple produces nonlinear current that generates the THz field under suitable phase matching conditions. Expressions for the beamwidth parameter of cosh-Gaussian laser beam and the electric vector of the THz field have been obtained using higher-order paraxial theory and solved numerically. The self-focusing of the cosh-Gaussian laser beam and its effect on the generated THz amplitude have been studied for specific laser and plasma parameters. Numerical study has been carried out at different values of the decentered parameter, incident laser intensity, magnetic field, and relative density. The results have also been compared with the paraxial region and the Gaussian profile of laser beam. Numerical results show that the self-focusing of the cosh-Gaussian laser beam and the amplitude of the THz field increase in the higher-order paraxial region than in the paraxial region. It is also observed that the focusing of the cosh-Gaussian laser beam in the magnetized plasma and the amplitude of the THz field increases at higher values of the decentered parameter. It is possible to generate the low-divergence ion bunches through the interaction of equally or slightly different counter-propagating laser pulses. In this paper, in the framework of plasma beat wave, we have numerically simulated the simultaneous acceleration of carbon/hydrogen ion beams. Using a two-dimensional particle-in-cell simulation, we have shown that in an HC plasma mixture with an optimal hydrogen ratio of 1:5, the laser reflectivity coefficient reduces up to about 4.6%. This condition may provide the acceleration of low-divergence H+ and C4+ ions beam. The cut-off energy for protons and C4+ ions are about 27 MeV and 410 MeV, respectively at n H = 0.2 n C. The values increase by about 15.6% for protons and 21% for C4+ at n H = 0.7 n C. In the presence of an axial magnetic field, the energy absorption arrives at its maximum at the values of Ωs/ ω p = 0.1, where Ωs and ω p are the gyro-frequency and plasma frequency, respectively. Here, the average kinetic energy of the accelerated ions raises by 17.9% and 7.3% for carbon and proton ions, respectively. Compared to the magnetic field-free case, divergence angles were suppressed at approximately 24.2% and 20.3% for the carbon ions and hydrogen ions, respectively. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This work presents the self-focusing of an intense cosh-Gaussian laser beam in a magnetized plasma under relativistic nonlinearity. The field distribution of the beam in the plasma is expressed as the beam width parameter (f0) and the decentered parameter (b). The magnetic field is applied in the direction of propagation of the laser field. The nonlinear differential equation for the beam width parameter of the cosh-Gaussian laser beam is established by following the Wentzel–Kramers–Brillouin (WKB) and higher-order paraxial approximations. The self-focusing of a cosh-Gaussian beam is studied at various values of the decentered parameter of the beam, magnetic field, relative plasma density and incident laser intensity. The results are presented for the established set of laser and plasma parameters. Numerical results suggest that these parameters play a major role in the stronger and earlier self-focusing of cosh-Gaussian laser beam in the plasma. The results have also been compared with the paraxial-ray approximation and the Gaussian profile of the laser beam. In addition, the self-trapping of the beam is studied under various parameters. The possibility to control both spectral and polarization properties of seed THz pulses in strongly nonequilibrium elongated magnetized plasma channels formed via intense UV femtosecond laser pulses in nitrogen (air) is analyzed. The physical mechanism of THz pulse control is based on cyclotron resonance, which can strongly reconstruct electrodynamical plasma features and, in particular, its ability to amplify the radiation of different spectral bands and polarization states. In particular, the formation of quasiunipolar pulses with a non-zero electric area and a specific polarization state is discussed. This study is based on the self-consistent solution of the kinetic Boltzmann equation for the electron velocity distribution function (EVDF) in the plasma channel and the second-order wave equation for THz pulse propagation. A propagation of ultrawideband electromagnetic pulses (UWB EMPs) through magnetized plasma has been experimentally studied using a “gigantic” coaxial line, which has been developed at IAP RAS for laboratory modeling of ionospheric effects. This coaxial line is 1.4 m in diameter and 10 m in length and is installed inside the chamber of the large-scale Krot plasma device. The line can be filled with rf inductively coupled plasma, magnetized or not. It allows one to explore the propagation of UWB EMPs in plasma along a long path without refraction and divergence and obtain a physical picture of EMP transformation. Under conditions where the duration of the UWB EMP is comparable to the period of electron plasma oscillations (fp−1), the period of cyclotron rotation of electrons (fc−1), or even significantly shorter, a complex of effects of transformation of the waveform and frequency spectrum of the pulse occurs. Without ambient magnetic field, a UWB EMP is distorted due to the effects of the cutoff and frequency dispersion. In dense magnetized plasma, i.e., when fp >> fc, the UWB EMP breaks into two wave packets, the high-frequency one (f > fp) and low-frequency one (f < fc). In rare magnetized plasma (fp << fc), the cyclotron absorption produces a long train of damped oscillations at a frequency close to the cyclotron frequency fc following the UWB EMP.

The finite-difference time-domain (FDTD) has been widely used to analyze electromagnetic (EM) wave propagation in complex dispersive media. Over the past three decades, a variety of FDTD approaches for the EM wave propagation in magnetized plasma has been presented. In this work, we perform a comprehensive study on the numerical accuracy of four FDTD formulations for magnetized plasma including the JE convolution (JEC) method, the exponential time differencing (ETD) method, the H–J collocated auxiliary differential equation (ADE) method, and the E-J collocated ADE method. Toward this purpose, the numerical permittivity tensor of magnetized plasma in the four FDTD formulations are derived and then we analyze them to determine which approach can provide the best accuracy. It is found that the E-J collocated ADE method can lead to the best accuracy. Numerical examples awere performed to validate our investigations.

Sheath formation and its characteristics are studied in collisional magnetized plasma consisting of nonextensive electrons and thermal ions. Using two-fluid model, the Bohm criterion for ion velocity is deduced as a function of plasma parameters and shown that ion-neutral collisions impose an upper limit for the Bohm criterion. It is also found that deviation from the standard Maxwellian distribution significantly affects the sheath characteristics. Sheath potential and ion density are considered under the effects of magnetic field, ion temperature, nonextensivity and ion-neutral collision frequency. The results indicate that by applying an external magnetic field, it is possible to control the sheath thickness.

A large amplitude X-mode laser, propagating through a cluster embedded magnetized plasma is parametrically susceptible to decay instability, involving a lower hybrid wave and an upper hybrid wave. The density perturbation associated with the lower hybrid wave couples with the oscillatory velocity of electrons due to the pump laser to produce a nonlinear current that drives the upper hybrid wave. The laser and the upper hybrid wave exert a beat frequency ponderomotive force on electrons and drive the lower hybrid wave. The surface plasmon resonance, modified by the magnetic field, plays a significant role in the response of cluster electrons. For typical laser intensity of 1016 W/cm2 at 0.8 micron wavelength, magnetic field of 50–100 MG, and substantial density of clusters, the parametric instability grows on sub-picosecond time scale. The first observation of possible transient luminous events (TLEs) on Jupiter was reported recently. Whereas initiation of elves on Jupiter has been theoretically studied before, the possibility of sprite streamer inception on Jupiter has not been investigated yet. Here we critically review the literature concerned with TLEs on Jupiter. Subsequently, we report on development of a numerical model for modeling of magnetized streamers in presence of Jupiter's strong magnetic field. The model utilizes the knowledge provided by recent observations of Jupiter's lightning and magnetic field by the Juno spacecraft. It is demonstrated that sprite streamer inception under realistic atmospheric conditions on Jupiter is possible. Plain Language Summary: Transient luminous events are large scale (thousands of cubic kilometers) gas discharges produced at low air densities at high altitudes in the Earth's atmosphere. These events are driven by intense lightning discharges in underlying thunderstorms at tropospheric altitudes. Recently the first observation of lightning‐related transient luminous events in Jupiter's ionosphere was reported. Considering Jupiter's conditions, we present here the first modeling of filamentary plasma structures called streamers that are known to produce the brightest optical emissions among different types of transient luminous events in the Earth's atmosphere. In contrast the streamer plasma in Jupiter's atmosphere is strongly magnetized. A theoretical investigation has been carried out for exploring different features of ion‐acoustic solitary and shock waves in a three‐component magnetized plasma containing a mixture of thermal and nonthermal (energetic) inertialess electrons, warm inertial ions, and positively charged stationary dust particles. The standard Korteweg‐de Vries (Burgers) equation has been derived by employing the reductive perturbation method, and its solitary (shock) wave solution has been derived and examined analytically as well as numerically. The latter exhibits characteristic properties (amplitude, width, speed, and polarity) of the ion‐acoustic solitary and shock waves. It has been shown that the ion‐acoustic solitary and shock waves are significantly modified by different plasma parameters (viz. parameter measuring the ratio of dust charge density to ion charge density, parameter measuring the fraction of energetic electrons, parameter measuring ion or electron temperature, and the external magnetic field). The present investigation may help in understanding the physics of various nonlinear phenomena formed in many space plasma systems, (viz. earth's mesosphere, solar wind, and cometary tails) and laboratory devices (laboratory experiments of Samarian et al., Phys. rev. Based on the considerations of the acknowledgements of the numerous space observations by satellites in the auroral plasma, astrophysics plasmas, spacecraft observations, various plasma models have been framed and revealed different interesting features, like electrostatic structures, solitary waves, double layers, supersolitons, etc. Soliton theory is a very efficient and competent way to describe nonlinear features. Using Viking satellite data in the auroral plasma, we have derived lump soliton solutions of the Kadomstev-Petviashvili (KP) equation by employing Hirota bilinear method. Due to its wide range of applications, the study of lump soliton is very attractive and important too. It has been shown that the lump solitons structures as well as in the one-dimensional form of lump soliton are varied with associated parameters in the auroral magnetized plasma. A rigorous theoretical investigation has been made on the nonlinear propagation of dust-ion-acoustic shock waves in a multi-component magnetized pair-ion plasma (PIP) having inertial warm positive and negative ions, inertialess non-thermal electrons and positrons, and static negatively charged massive dust grains. The Burgers’ equation is derived by employing the reductive perturbation method. The plasma model supports both positive and negative shock structures in the presence of static negatively charged massive dust grains. It is found that the steepness of both positive and negative shock profiles declines with the increase of ion kinematic viscosity without affecting the height, and the increment of negative (positive) ion mass in the PIP system declines (enhances) the amplitude of the shock profile. It is also observed that the increase in oblique angle raises the height of the positive shock profile, and the height of the positive shock wave increases with the number density of positron. The applications of the findings from the present investigation are briefly discussed.

The propagation of dissipative electrostatic (ion-acoustic) solitary waves in a magnetized plasma with trapped electrons is considered via the Schamel formalism. The direction of propagation is assumed to be arbitrary, i.e., oblique with respect to the magnetic field, for generality. A non-Maxwellian (nonthermal) two-component plasma is considered, consisting of an inertial ion fluid, assumed to be cold for simplicity, and electrons. A (kappa) κ-type distribution is adopted for the electron population, in addition to particle trapping taken into account in phase space. A damped version of the Schamel-type equation is derived for the electrostatic potential, and its analytical solution, representing a damped solitary wave, is used to examine the nonlinear features of dissipative ion-acoustic solitary waves in the presence of trapped electrons. The influence of relevant plasma configuration parameters, namely the percentage of trapped electrons, the electron superthermality (spectral) index, and the direction of propagation on the solitary wave characteristics is investigated.
