Trata-se de um relato de experiência com a finalidade de descrever a vivência de discentes da Universidade Federal de Sergipe (UFS) durante a ação no projeto de extensão intitulado Socorristas Mirins: ensinando crianças a salvar vidas. Este projeto visa capacitar crianças para exercer práticas iniciais de suporte básico de vida, utilizando a música como ferramenta auxiliadora na aprendizagem dos primeiros socorros. As músicas com os temas relacionados aos primeiros socorros foram criadas pelos discentes, aproximando e facilitando a aprendizagem das crianças. Foram realizadas visitas às escolas públicas e privadas com a equipe do projeto, constituída por docentes e discentes da UFS, campus Lagarto-Sergipe. Nessas visitas, os discentes promoveram a capacitação dos primeiros socorros, alinhando-se ao universo infantil e elencando os conteúdos de uma forma lúdica, dinâmica, criativa, eficaz e adequada à idade. Ao final das visitas, as crianças tornaram-se capacitadas com as habilidades sugeridas, dispondo a música, papel essencial nos resultados alcançados.

El cuidado humanizado del profesional de enfermería se convierte en una práctica clínica profesional necesaria que permite, mediante los cuidados, que los pacientes tengan mejor calidad de vida, por ello el objetivo de la investigación fue determinar la relación del cuidado humanizado del profesional de enfermería con los principios bioéticos en pacientes del Hospital Víctor Ramos Guardia de Huaraz. En la metodología se usó un enfoque cuantitativo; por su finalidad, el tipo de investigación fue aplicada; por su alcance, correlacional; y por ser no experimental, se usó un diseño transversal. La población estuvo conformada por pacientes hospitalizados en los servicios de Cirugía, Medicina y Gineco-Obstetricia, en un total de 812 pacientes; se usó una muestra de 127 pacientes, la técnica usada fue la encuesta y el instrumento, el cuestionario. Los resultados demostraron a nivel global que el 35,4% opina que el cuidado humanizado es regular y que a veces se aplican los principios bioéticos; en opinión del 54,3% y 85,5%, se aplican los principios de autonomía y justicia respectivamente; y, en opinión del 52% y 68,5%, a veces se aplican los de beneficencia y no maleficencia, respectivamente. Conclusión: el cuidado humanizado del profesional de enfermería tiene relación positiva y significativa con los principios bioéticos en pacientes hospitalizados.

As Infecções Sexualmente Transmissíveis (IST) são um problema de saúde pública mundial. No Brasil, as IST atingem todas as faixas etárias, em especial, os adolescentes. O objetivo do trabalho é relatar o processo de construção de uma intervenção de educação em saúde sobre IST, com público alvo os escolares do ensino médio do município de Lagarto, SE. Trata-se de um estudo do tipo relato de experiência. Participaram da construção da intervenção 40 extensionistas, sendo 12 membros executores e 28 monitores dos cursos da área da saúde. Além disso, foram construídas 12 estações, abordando: HIV/AIDS, Hepatite, Sífilis, Gonorréia, HTLV-1, Herpes, Candidíase, HPV/Cancro, Vaginite Bacteriana, Sistema Reprodutor Masculino/Feminino, Comodidades AIDS e Tricomonas. O material dissolvido possibilitará, aos escolares, embasamento de qualidade científica que poderão norteá-los nas decisões que contemplem a temática das IST.

Abstract: Optical methods combine the wide availability of molecular indicators with simple and contactless measurements. In this context, indicator-displacement assay is a viable strategy for developing optical chemosensors with synthetic receptors. Such approach may be used to overcome the limits of sensing molecules and to widen the range of detectable compounds. In this paper, it is shown that proper blends of porphyrins and Lewis acid-base indicators can give rise to sensitive units whose properties exceed those of single components. Abstract: In this work, gas sensing properties of monocarboxy tetraphenylporphyrin functionalized ZnO nanorods under different light illumination, were investigated. These studies showed that the sensitivity to triethylamine of porphyrin functionalized ZnO nanorod device are greatly enhanced under illumination with visible light. This photoactivated nanostructure composition has the potential for gas sensor device applications. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]

Abstract: Sensors are the less durable parts in any chemical sensor system, then the replacement of sensors maintaining hardware and data processing is a necessity in real applications. Though sensors replacement requires a perfect reproducibility of the sensors fabrication. Among the different sensor technologies, those based on optical transduction may offer a straightforward methodology to release the requirement of identical sensor manufacturing. In particular it will be shown here that the use of image sensor provides a surprising parallel with natural olfaction. An important consequence is that the data processing is independent from the geometric arrangement of the sensitive layer. This feature leads to a simple sensor layer replacement and to a prompt arrangement of different sensor systems, even remotely located, into a single data processing system. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]

Essential oils have emerged as an alternative to synthetic insecticides in the control of stored grain pests. The toxicity and repellency of the essential oils of four basil cultivars and three basil hybrids and the monoterpenes linalool, citral, and (E)-methyl cinnamate were evaluated in the stored grain pests Callosobruchus maculatus and Sitophillus zeamais. The essential oils of the cultivar Genovese and the hybrid 'Genovese' x 'Maria Bonita' were more toxic to C. maculatus. Conversely, the essential oils of the cultivar Sweet Dani and the hybrid 'Cinnamom' x 'Maria Bonita' were more toxic to S. zeamais. Among the monoterpenes, (E)-methyl cinnamate was the most toxic to both pests, taking 0.14 and 0.34 µL.mL-1 to kill 50% of the C. maculatus and S. zeamais populations, respectively. All essential oils from cultivars, hybrids, and monoterpenes were repellent to S. zeamais, except for (E)-methyl cinnamate. For C. maculatus, this effect was lower, being citral the most repellent compound. Results demonstrate the insecticidal potential of the essential oil of O. basilicum and its monoterpenes in the control of stored grain pests.

En la actualidad, la educación universitaria exige que el docente tenga una formación integral, lo cual implica disponer de profesores con cualidades positivas que no solo transmitan conocimientos sobre el aspecto académico, el desarrollo científico-tecnológico o el de responsabilidad social, sino que estos, además de su perfeccionamiento profesional, deben poseer vocación de servicio, así como también una sólida formación moral, ética y bioética, capaz de transmitir principios y valores; es decir, ser ejemplo vivo de lo que dicen, considerando al estudiante como una persona en todo su contexto. En este artículo se ha identificado las directrices para la implementación de un programa de formación en Bioética personalista dirigido a docentes universitarios, para lo cual se ha definido la situación actual de la formación docente universitaria en bioética en Perú, así como también se explica los contenidos bioéticos que deben ser considerados en la formación de los docentes universitarios, teniendo como eje transversal de sus ejes temáticos a la Bioética personalista. Las conclusiones a la que se llega es que, La situación actual del docente universitario requiere de una rigurosa formación integral, que incluya a la bioética personalista por el rol de formador que desempeña, impulsando su progresiva implementación en los planes educativos universitarios, a nivel de pregrado y postgrado. Las directrices a implementar son: persona humana, dignidad humana, integridad de la persona y persona íntegra, valor de la vida humana en todas sus etapas, valor de la sexualidad humana, la libertad y el respeto, sociabilidad y socialización.

This work aimed to evaluate the in vitro antifungal activity of the essential oils of L. alba belonging to the carvone chemotype (LA-13 and LA-57) and the citral chemotype (LA-10, LA-29, and LA-44); the carvone enantiomers (R)-(-)-carvone and (S)-(+)-carvone; and citral on phytopathogenic fungi Lasiodiplodia theobromae (LT), Fusarium pallidoroseum (FP) and Fusarium solani (FS). Concentrations of 0.01; 0.05; 0.1; 0.2; 0.3; 0.5 and 1.0 mL/100 mL were tested, and the percentage of mycelial growth inhibition (MGI) was calculated after 96h in relation to the control. Minimal Inhibitory Concentrations (MIC) and Minimal Fungicide Concentrations (MFC) were obtained for essential oils and compounds. From the concentration of 0.2 mL/100 mL, all the accessions and carvone enantiomers were effective against the fungus LT, except the accession LA-44, for which the maximum inhibition occurred from the concentration of 0.3 mL/100 mL. Citral was the most effective compound against LT, with 100% of MGI from the concentration of 0.05 mL /100 mL. All accessions and enantiomers caused 100% of MGI against FP fungus from the concentration of 0.2 mL/100 mL. Once again, citral stood out by providing the same result as the other treatments from the concentration of 0.1 mL/100 mL. Considering the fungus FS, carvone enantiomers and citral caused 100% of MGI from the concentration of 0.1 mL/100 mL while all accessions caused 100% of MGI from the concentration of 0.2 mL/100 mL. Citral and carvone enantiomers presented the lowest MIC values (0.1 mL/100 mL) against FS fungus. The MIC of citral for LT and FP were not determined at the concentrations tested. (R)-(-)-carvone enantiomer presented the lowest MIC (0.1 mL/100 mL) for the LT fungus. Most of the other accessions presented MIC of 0.2 mL/100 mL for the three fungi. In relation to the minimum fungicidal concentration (MFC), citral stood out with values from 0.05 mL/100 mL (LT). Citral and carvone presented the same MFC for FS (0.2 mL / 100 mL). The other accessions showed MFC values from 0.3 mL/100 mL for the three fungi. Essential oils of L. alba accessions, carvone enantiomers, and citral were efficient in phytopathogen control and could be considered as an alternative to fungicides for presenting inhibitory and fungicidal effect against these microorganisms at low concentrations.

The aim of this work was to develop an in vitro conservation protocol for Lippia alba that involved mineral oil and to study the leaf anatomy of L. alba genotypes in in vitro and ex vitro environments. In vitro conservation involved five genotypes; LA-13 and LA-57 (carvone chemotype); LA-22 (linalool chemotype); and LA-29 and LA-44 (citral chemotype). Each genotype was treated with mineral oil, with water, and a control at 18°C and 23°C. Survival (%), shoot height (cm) and leaf color were assessed at 180 and 270 days. The genotypes with the best in vitro conservation outcomes (LA-13 and LA-57) were used to study the anatomy of the leaves. Midrib thickness, leaf blade thickness, adaxial and abaxial cuticles and the number of glandular and tector trichomes were assessed. A temperature of 18°C was optimal for the conservation of genotypes of the carvone chemotypes. The explants were short and had green leaves. This was especially true for LA-57, whose height did not exceed 2.0 cm. At 270 days, the LA-13 and LA-57 genotypes continued to have green and viable leaves, especially LA-57, which had the lowest mean height. Field plants of the carvone chemotype had thicker midribs, leaf blades, and cuticles and had more trichomes. The LA-57 genotype had the most glandular and tector trichomes.

As más condições laborais e a forma de organização do trabalho dentro do sistema capitalista frequentemente têm se mostrado nocivas para o trabalhador. Além disso, a chamada síndrome da fadiga crônica é um dos males que acomete a classe trabalhadora. Por meio de revisão teórica buscou-se caracterizar a síndrome, suas possíveis causas e consequências e o papel do psicólogo nas organizações. A fadiga pode ser compreendida como um esgotamento físico e mental, culminando em consequências para a saúde do trabalhador. Excesso de trabalho, pressão por produção, turnos alternados, riscos físicos e falta de autonomia são alguns fatores apontados como prováveis desencadeadores da síndrome, e as consequências encontradas vão desde baixo rendimento e maior risco de acidentes de trabalho até dificuldade para relaxar em momentos de lazer. É papel do psicólogo do trabalho e organizacional realizar ações remediadoras e preventivas que impeçam ou dificultem o aparecimento da fadiga no trabalho.Las más condiciones de trabajo y la forma de organización en el sistema capitalista se mostra mala para el trabajador. También, el Síndrome de la sobrecarga crónica, es uno de los males que rondan los trabajadores hoy. Por el medio de la revisión teórica, se intentó caracterizarlo, sus posibles causas, consecuencias y la función del psicólogo en las organizaciones. La sobrecarga puede ser comprendida como un agotamiento físico y mental, acarreando en consecuencias para su salud. El exceso de trabajo, producción, turnos alternos, riesgos físicos y falta de autonomía son factores apuntados como probables desencadenadores del síndrome y sus consecuencias son bajos réditos, mayores riesgos de accidentes de trabajo y dificultad para relajar en los ratos de recreación. Es la función del psicólogo del trabajo y organizacional realizar acciones remediables y preventivas que impidan el aparecimiento de la sobrecarga en el trabajo.Poor working conditions and the organized way of work inside the capitalist system have frequently been harmful to the worker. Besides, the Chronic Fatigue Syndrome is one of many disorders that can affect the working class. Through a theoretical revision, there has been an attempt to characterize the syndrome, its possible causes and consequences, also the role of psychologist inside the organizations. The fatigue can be understood as a physical and mental exhaustion, culminating in consequences to worker's health. Overworking, pressures for production, switched shifts, physical hazards and lack of autonomy are some factors mentioned as likely of triggers of the syndrome, and the verified consequences range from little productivity and major risk of accidents to difficulties in enjoying free time. It is the job of the work and organizational psychologist to perform preventive and remedial actions which lessen the emergence of fatigue at work.

Hypercholesterolemia is a major risk factor for cardiovascular disease. Supplements containing the vitamins niacin (B3) and pyridoxine (B6) can promote the reduction of total cholesterol and an increase in HDL cholesterol. In this study, the effects of diets supplemented with niacin (B3) and pyridoxine (B6) on the hepatic and serum lipid profiles of Wistar rats were assessed. The diets were prepared with combinations of three concentrations of niacin (3, 4 and 5 g/kg) and pyridoxine (6, 12 and 18 mg/kg) and one with neither vitamin. The animals were divided into eleven experimental groups of six animals per group, and nine groups were fed on a standard diet with 7.5% fat and vitamin supplementation. Another group was fed with 7.5% fat without vitamin supplements. A control group received the standard diet (AIN-93M) without modifications (4% fat). The weight gain, food intake, serum and hepatic total cholesterol, serum cholesterol fractions (HDL, LDL, and VLDL), serum and hepatic triacylglycerols and hepatic and fecal lipid contents were measured after 30 days. The diet with the highest concentration of niacin and lowest concentration of pyridoxine had the lowest level of total hepatic cholesterol. Hepatic triacylglycerols were reduced by the highest concentration of niacin (5 g/kg), and this reduction was enhanced by increasing the pyridoxine concentration. The diets supplemented with niacin and pyridoxine reduced the levels of serum total cholesterol, LDL, VLDL, triacylglycerols and hepatic lipids. These effects on the lipid profile varied with the concentrations of the two vitamins and the interactions between them.

This work aims to analyze changes in the fish assemblages along a longitudinal reaches of the rio Paraíba do Sul, one of the most used Brazilian aquatic systems, to assess the river "health" and to identify eventual recovery trends. Standardized monthly samplings were carried out at six sites, from October 1997 to September 1999, using casting, sieves, seine and gill nets. Three zones were searched: upstream (Z I), downstream (Z III) and nearby the source of pollution (Z II). Three univariate distribution methods were used: ABC (abundance-biomass curves), K-dominance curves, and geometric class's distribution. Additionally, cluster analysis was applied to detect eventual patterns. The ABC and K-dominance curves showed Z II with evident indication of stress in both yearly cycles, followed by Z III and Z I. Few rare species and absence of common species in Z I, presence of common and abundant species, mainly opportunist, in Z II, and the highest number of rare species in Z III, was the overall pattern showed by geometric class. Number of fish was higher at Z II, while number of species did no change significantly among zones. Cluster analysis separate Z II samples from Z I and III. All the three univariate methods showed evident signals of stress at Z II, which showed indication of organic enrichment as expressed in the high abundance of common species, although physicochemical variables (ammonia, nitrogen, total phosphorous and DBO) have increased slightly from Z1 to Z III. A lesser stress condition was shown at the downstream zone (Z III), indicating the river recovery capacity. The use of biological indicators in this study proved to be a better tool to assess non-point sources pollution when compared to traditional physicochemical measurements.

Astroni volcano in the Campi Flegrei caldera (southern Italy) is a 2 km wide, densely vegetated tuff ring and hosting several volcanic structures, including tuff cones, scoriae cones, lava domes, and three small lakes. Geochemical data of waters and dissolved gases from the lakes, coupled with microbiological analyses on lake water and sediments, were used to shed light on the possible relationship between the lakes and the hydrothermal fluid circulation system as suggested by previous geophysical surveys. Water chemistry was dominated by solutes, mainly Na+ and HCO 3 −, deriving from fluids and CO 2 -rich gases typically found in discharges located at the periphery of hydrothermal-volcanic systems. Lago Grande (LG) lake showed an anoxic hypolimnion with abundant non-atmospheric dissolved gases, consisting of biogenic CH 4 and CO 2 , the latter having a twofold origin, biogenic and hydrothermal. The occurrence of anaerobic methanotrophs coupled with the lack of hydrogenotrophic methanogenic archaea along the whole vertical profile of LG suggested that CH 4 was mostly produced from degradation of abundant terrestrial organic matter within the deep lake sediments, and then consumed during its diffusion through the lake. Notwithstanding, the output rate of CH 4 from LG surface was anomalously high relative to those commonly measured in lakes. Carbon dioxide from the hydrothermal source and produced by CH 4 oxidation was partially fixed in the lake via the acetyl-CoA pathway. Accordingly, the CO 2 fluxes from the LG surface were relatively low, in the range of those measured in volcanic lakes dominated by biogenic CO 2. The dependence of the chemistry of the Astroni lakes on inputs from the Campi Flegrei hydrothermal system, besides on biogeochemical processes, offers a possible explanation for the anomalous increase of the LG water level occurred in the last years, which was not consistent with the recorded local rainfall but likely caused by an increasing hydraulic pressure related to the enhanced hydrothermal activity recorded at Campi Flegrei in the last decades. According to this hypothesis, the future evolution of the current volcanic unrest may govern the fate of the lake water level with important implications for the functioning of the precious Astroni ecosystem. • The chemistry of Astroni lakes depends on volcanic fluid inputs. • Methanogens and methanotrophs likely control non-atmospheric dissolved gases. • The increase of Astroni Grande lake volume is caused by increasing volcanic fluid input. • The fate of the Astroni lakes is linked to the volcanic activity of Campi Flegrei. • The Astroni ecosystem may suffer the influence of increasing volcanic fluid input. A consistent part of gas sensor research activities aims to improve sensing performances by synthesizing new sensing materials, improving the selection of elements in arrays, and optimizing the feature extraction and classification algorithms. This paper combines most of these aspects to confer selectivity to a low-selectivity sensor by using feature extraction algorithms applied to the sensor response kinetics. Several algorithms were employed to represent the kinetic behavior of the sensor response during the adsorption and desorption phases. In detail, we utilized fitting functions, dynamic descriptors, and a mirrored fast Fourier transform (FFT) to extrapolate information from the desorption and adsorption phases. As sensitive material, we synthesized as a receptor a novel Zn(II) phthalocyanine derivative bearing long aliphatic chains, namely, 4-[2,5,7,8-tetramethyl-2-(4,8,12-trimethyl-tridecyl)-chroman-6-yloxy] units that allow good solubilization of the complex in most of the solvents tested and confer a large set of sites to potentially interact with volatile compound (VC) analytes by different portions of the molecular skeleton. After deposition onto a quartz crystal microbalance (QMB) transducer, this single sensor has been tested to recognize five VCs as chemical probes of different chemical families. Remarkably, the results disclose that responses at equilibrium are mainly correlated with nonspecific interactions, while the kinetic parameters are more correlated with stronger and more specific interactions. Finally, the desorption phases bear a higher information content about the chemical identities of the compounds. Eventually, features extracted by a modified version of the FFT obtained the highest clustering (principal component analysis) and classification performances (95% classification accuracy with linear discriminant analysis), suggesting the possibility of developing virtual electronic noses based on a single sensor and a minimal set of descriptors.

A supramolecular approach based on self-assembled structures allows the formation of large structured co-assemblies based on chiral and achiral compounds with original physicochemical features. In this contribution, an achiral and hydrophobic porphyrin was co-assembled at the air-water interface with mesoscopic silica nano-helices dispersed in the water subphase of a Langmuir trough without covalent bond formation. This procedure allowed transferring the porphyrin/nano-helix co-assemblies on a solid support within a thin hybrid layer. The interaction between the two species was characterized using spectroscopic techniques and atomic force microscopy. As evidenced by the circular dichroism measurements performed directly on solid films, tunable chirality was induced to the porphyrin aggregates according to the chirality of the silica nano-helices. When the co-assemblies were transferred on surface plasmon resonance (SPR) slides and exposed to aqueous solutions of histidine enantiomers, selective chiral discrimination was observed which was determined by the matching/mismatching between the chirality of the analyte and the helicity of the nano-helical structure.
