Contexto: Ansiedade e depressão são comorbilidades importantes na asma, mas dados acerca deste tema são ainda escassos em Portugal e Espanha. Objetivos: Avaliamos a frequência de sintomas de ansiedade e depressão em pessoas com asma através da Escala Hospitalar de Ansiedade e Depressão (HADS) e do questionário de qualidade de vida EQ-5D; o nível de concordância entre estes dois questionários, assim como os fatores associados a estes sintomas. Métodos: Esta é uma análise secundária dos estudos do projeto INSPIRERS. Um total de 614 adolescentes e adultos com asma persistente (32.6 ± 16.9 anos, 64.7% do sexo feminino) foram recrutados em 30 cuidados de saúde primários e 32 serviços de imunoalergologia, pneumologia e pediatria. Foram recolhidas características demográficas e clínicas dos participantes e as respostas à HADS e EQ-5D. Um resultado ≥8 na HADS-A/HADS-D ou uma resposta positiva ao item 5 do EQ-5D indicava a presença destes sintomas. O nível de concordância este os questionários foi obtido através do coeficiente Kappa (k). Duas regressões logísticas multivariáveis foram construídas. Resultados: De acordo com HADS, 36% dos participantes tinham sintomas de ansiedade e 12% depressão. De acordo com o EQ-5D, 36% dos participantes tinham ansiedade/depressão. A concordância dos questionários na identificação de sintomas de ansiedade/depressão foi moderada (k=0.55, 95%IC 0.48-0.62). Um diagnóstico tardio de asma, a presença de comorbilidades e o sexo feminino foram preditores de sintomas de ansiedade/depressão, enquanto que melhor controlo da asma, qualidade de vida associada à saúde e perceção de saúde foram associados a menor probabilidade de sintomas de ansiedade/depressão. Conclusão: Pelo menos 1/3 das pessoas com asma persistente experienciam sintomas de ansiedade/depressão, realçando a importância de diagnosticar estes sintomas nesta população. Os nossos resultados suportam o uso complementar destes questionários. According to EQ-5D, 36% of the participants had anxiety/depression. The agreement between questionnaires in identifying anxiety/depression was moderate (k=0.55, 95%CI 0.48-0.62). Late asthma diagnosis, comorbidities and female gender were predictors of anxiety/depression, while better asthma control, health-related quality of life and perception of health were associated with lower odds for anxiety/depression. Conclusion: At least 1/3 of the patients with persistent asthma experience symptoms of anxiety/depression, showing the relevance of screening these disorders in patients with asthma. Our results support the complementary use of these questionnaires.
