Abstract

Collector's seals provide important clues about the ownership of a book. They contain much information pertaining to the essential elements of ancient materials and also show the details of possession, its relation to the book, the identity of the collectors and their social status and wealth, amongst others. Asian collectors have typically used artistic ancient characters rather than modern ones to make their seals. In addition to the owner's name, several other words are used to express more profound meanings. A system that automatically recognizes these characters can help enthusiasts and professionals better understand the background information of these seals. However, there is a lack of training data and labelled images, as samples of some seals are scarce and most of them are degraded images. It is necessary to find new ways to make full use of such scarce data. While these data are available online, they do not contain information on the characters'position. The goal of this research is to provide retrieval tools assist in obtaining more information from Asian collector's seals imprints without consuming a lot of computational resources. In this paper, a character segmentation method is proposed to predict the candidate characters'area without any labelled training data that contain character coordinate information. A retrieval-based recognition system that focuses on a single character is also proposed to support seal retrieval and matching. The experimental results demonstrate that the proposed character segmentation method performs well on Asian collector's seals, with 92% of the test data being correctly segmented.

10. Effects of tackle height and shoulder preference on head and trunk acceleration in rugby.

Abstract

Background: Most rugby injuries occur during tackles, therefore investigating safe tackling techniques is essential. Objectives: To determine the effects of different tackle heights and shoulder preference on head and trunk acceleration. Methods: Thirty-nine rugby players belonging to university leagues, adult leagues, and adult leagues, tackled a stationary tackle bag under three height conditions (high, middle, and low) with a dominant shoulder and a non-dominant shoulder. We calculated the peak head and trunk accelerations (PhA and PtA, respectively) during the tackles and evaluated the difference in accelerations by the tackle height and side. Results: The PhA (26.1 g (17.1) g) during the tackles was significantly higher than the PtA (11.7(7.2) g, p < 0.01). The PhA was significantly larger in the high (27.4 (19.4) g) and middle (27.7 (17.0) g) tackles compared to the low (23.4 (14.6) g) tackle (high vs low: p < 0.01; middle vs low: p < 0.01). The PhA was significantly lower during the dominant shoulder side (23.0 (13.7) g) tackles than during the non-dominant shoulder side (30.4 (21.3) g) tackles (p < 0.01). Conclusion: The results suggest that coaching strategies and policies aimed at reducing tackler height and improving tackle technique on the non-dominant shoulder would help reduce head acceleration forces. Abstract

Traditional transporter systems with belts and gears generate friction, reducing efficiency, which is a huge problem especially when used in clean rooms. Then, the Hybrid Magnetic Levitation System, which combines superconducting levitation stability and strong repulsion from permanent magnets, has been developed to solve this problem. This system consists of magnet rails with a Halbach Array to enhance the magnetic field on the upper side of the rail. Furthermore, the superconducting levitation offers stability without control, and air core coils on the magnetic rail generate propulsion force when interacting with the High-Temperature Superconductor (HTS) that pins flux from the magnetic rail. The principle of the propulsion method consists of magnetizing the back region of the HTS and demagnetizing its front region. This paper studies the influence of the excitation method using one and two propulsion coils, and the coil parameter in the propulsion force. The propulsion coils installed with different arrangements on the rails act on the HTS of the transporter and the propulsion force increased. From the results, the propulsion force increases as the coil self-inductance increases, but in a non-linear relation.

Abstract

This paper examines how to apply deep learning techniques to Mongolian bar exam questions. Several approaches that utilize eight different fine-tuned transformer models were demonstrated for recognizing textual inference in Mongolian bar exam questions. Among eight different models, the fine-tuned bert-base-multilingual-cased obtained the best accuracy of 0.7619. The fine-tuned bert-base-multilingual-cased was capable of recognizing "contradiction", with a recall of 0.7857 and an F1 score of 0.7674; it recognized "entailment" with a precision of 0.7750, a recall of 0.7381, and an F1 score of 0.7561. Moreover, the fine-tuned bert-large-mongolian-uncased showed balanced performance in recognizing textual inference in Mongolian bar exam questions, thus achieving a precision of 0.7561, a recall of 0.7381, and an F1 score of 0.7470 for recognizing "contradiction".
