Salinity and water deficit are among the main stress situations that affect germination and seedling development in the field. Thus, the objective was to evaluate the germination and growth of white oat seedlings subjected to water and saline stress at different temperatures. The experiment was carried out in a completely randomized design, in a triple factorial arrangement, with two osmotic solutions (PEG 6000 and NaCl), five osmotic potentials (-0.2, -0.4, -0.6 and -0.8 MPa) and two temperatures (20 and 25 °C), with four replications of 50 seeds each. Initially, the water content of the seeds was determined. In the treatment effects, germination, first germination count, shoot length, primary root and seedling fresh mass were evaluated. Osmotic potentials lower than -0.2 MPa reduce the germination and growth of white oat seedlings, regardless of the stressor agent and temperature. The simulations of the stress conditions harmed the germination and the initial growth of the seedlings by the decrease of the observed variables. The salt and water stress induced by sodium chloride solution was more drastic than that induced by polyethylene glycol 6000.

Antimicrobial peptides (AMPs) are molecules found in most organisms, playing a vital role in innate immune defense against pathogens. Their mechanism of action involves the disruption of bacterial cell membranes, causing leakage of cellular contents and ultimately leading to cell death. While AMPs typically lack a defined structure in solution, they often assume a defined conformation when interacting with bacterial membranes. Given this structural flexibility, we investigated whether intrinsically disordered regions (IDRs) with AMP-like properties could exhibit antimicrobial activity. We tested 14 peptides from different IDRs predicted to have antimicrobial activity and found that nearly all of them did not display the anticipated effects. These peptides failed to adopt a defined secondary structure and had compromised membrane interactions, resulting in a lack of antimicrobial activity. We hypothesize that evolutionary constraints may prevent IDRs from folding, even in membrane-like environments, limiting their antimicrobial potential. Moreover, our research reveals that current antimicrobial predictors fail to accurately capture the structural features of peptides when dealing with intrinsically unstructured sequences. Hence, the results presented here may have far-reaching implications for designing and improving antimicrobial strategies and therapies against infectious diseases.

BackgroundThe HIV Prevention Trials Network (HPTN) 083 trial showed that long-acting injectable cabotegravir was more effective than tenofovir disoproxil fumarate plus emtricitabine in preventing HIV in cisgender men and transgender women who have sex with men. We aimed to characterise the cohort of transgender women included in HPTN 083.MethodsHPTN 083 is an ongoing, phase 2b/3, randomised, multicentre, double-blind, double-dummy clinical trial done at 43 sites in seven countries (Argentina, Brazil, Peru, the USA, South Africa, Thailand, and Viet Nam). HIV-negative participants were randomly assigned (1:1) to receive injectable cabotegravir or tenofovir disoproxil fumarate plus emtricitabine. The study design and primary outcomes of the blinded phase of HPTN 083 have already been reported. An enrolment minimum of 10% transgender women was set for the trial. Here we characterise the cohort of transgender women enrolled from Dec 6, 2016, to May 14, 2020, when the study was unblinded. We report sociodemographic characteristics, use of gender affirming hormone therapy, and behavioural assessments of the transgender women participants. Laboratory testing and safety evaluations are also reported. The trial is registered at ClinicalTrials.gov, NCT02720094.FindingsHPTN 083 enrolled 570 transgender women (304 tenofovir disoproxil fumarate plus emtricitabine; 266 injectable cabotegravir). Transgender women were primarily from Asia (225 [39%]) and Latin America (205 [36%]); 330 (58%) reported using gender affirming hormone therapy. Intimate partner violence was common (270 [47%] reported emotional abuse and 172 [30%] reported physical abuse) and 323 (57%) reported a history of childhood sexual abuse. 159 (28%) transgender women disagreed that they were at risk for HIV, and 142 (25%) screened positive for depressive symptoms. During study follow-up, incidence of syphilis was 16·25% (95% CI 13·28-19·69), rectal gonorrhoea was 11·66% (9·14-14·66), and chlamydia was 20·61% (17·20-24·49). Frequency of adverse events was similar between the treatment groups. Nine seroconversions occurred among transgender women during the blinded phase of the study (seven in the tenofovir disoproxil fumarate plus emtricitabine group and two in the injectable cabotegravir group); overall incidence was 1·19 per 100 person-years (95% CI 0·54-2·25): 1·80 per 100 person-years (0·73-3·72) in the tenofovir disoproxil fumarate plus emtricitabine group and 0·54 per 100 person-years (0·07-1·95) in the injectable cabotegravir group (hazard ratio 0·34 [95% CI 0·08-1·56]). Cabotegravir concentrations did not differ by gender affirming hormone therapy use.InterpretationHIV prevention strategies for transgender women cannot be addressed separately from social and structural vulnerabilities. Transgender women were well represented in HPTN 083 and should continue to be prioritised in HIV prevention studies. O trabalho objetivou discutir a importância da inclusão de alunos com baixa visão no ensino de Geografia, destacando o conceito desta deficiência visual para pensar e discutir estratégias pedagógicas e recursos didáticos que promovem uma aprendizagem efetiva. A presença de alunos com baixa visão em salas de aula levanta questões sobre acessibilidade e metodologias de ensino adaptadas. Posto isto, a Geografia, por sua natureza visual e espacial, requer abordagens inovadoras para garantir a compreensão plena e a participação ativa desses alunos. A operacionalização da pesquisa foi efetuada através de uma revisão bibliográfica a respeito da temática. Sendo assim, este estudo se fundamenta em pesquisas pedagógicas recentes e na definição sobre baixa visão para promover práticas inclusivas e alcançar uma Geografia verdadeiramente para todos.

Objetivo: realizar a adaptação transcultural do Cancer Behavior Inventory - Brief Version para o Brasil. Método: estudo metodológico, realizado de acordo com as diretrizes para estudos de confiabilidade e concordância de relatórios. A adaptação transcultural do instrumento englobou as etapas de Tradução, Síntese, Retrotradução, Revisão pelo comitê de juízes e Pré-teste. Resultados: as etapas de tradução, retrotradução e avaliação pelo comitê de juízes apresentaram poucas alterações, relacionadas principalmente à substituição de termos por sinônimos, supressão de palavras e ajustes gramaticais. No entanto, o item 5 destacou-se por ter uma concordância inferior a 80% em todas as equivalências, o que indica a necessidade de modificações. O índice de validade de conteúdo e o Kappa para este item foram inferiores aos valores recomendados (0,20 e 0,37, respectivamente), evidenciando a importância de revisões adicionais para garantir a precisão e adequação do instrumento. A versão adaptada do instrumento foi submetida a um pré-teste, no qual foram realizadas novas modificações. Conclusão: o instrumento foi adaptado à cultura brasileira de forma criteriosa, resultando em uma versão culturalmente sensível, linguisticamente precisa e que preserva a integridade do instrumento original.

Abstract Implanted medical devices often face the challenge of infections, which can compromise their successful integration and use. To address this issue, this study demonstrates the covalent grafting of a tannin‐based antimicrobial biopolymer tanfloc (TAN) onto the titania nanotube arrays (TiNTs) surface to enhance antibacterial properties. Due to its polyphenolic and ionic structural configuration, tanfloc possesses unique properties that enable it to interact with and disrupt bacterial cell walls and membranes. Combining the topographical effect of TiNTs with the inherent antibacterial properties of tanfloc, this approach aims to mitigate bacterial threats on medical implants effectively. The successful attachment of tanfloc on TiNTs is confirmed through X‐ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and Fourier‐transform infrared spectroscopy (FT‐IR). The antibacterial and antibiofilm efficacy of the tanfloc‐functionalized TiNTs is evaluated against Staphylococcus aureus (Gram‐positive) and Pseudomonas aeruginosa (Gram‐negative) bacteria. The findings suggest that the covalent conjugation of tanfloc onto TiNTs is a promising approach to improve the infection resistance of titanium‐based medical implants, with potential applications in orthopedic, dental, and other biomedical device areas.

Cardiotoxicity due to anthracyclines (CDA) affects cancer patients, but we cannot predict who may suffer from this complication. CDA is a complex trait with a polygenic component that is mainly unidentified. We propose that levels of intermediate molecular phenotypes (IMPs) in the myocardium associated with histopathological damage could explain CDA susceptibility, so variants of genes encoding these IMPs could identify patients susceptible to this complication. Thus, a genetically heterogeneous cohort of mice (n = 165) generated by backcrossing were treated with doxorubicin and docetaxel. We quantified heart fibrosis using an Ariol slide scanner and intramyocardial levels of IMPs using multiplex bead arrays and QPCR. We identified quantitative trait loci linked to IMPs (ipQTLs) and cdaQTLs via linkage analysis. In three cancer patient cohorts, CDA was quantified using echocardiography or Cardiac Magnetic Resonance. CDA behaves as a complex trait in the mouse cohort. IMP levels in the myocardium were associated with CDA. ipQTLs integrated into genetic models with cdaQTLs account for more CDA phenotypic variation than that explained by cda-QTLs alone. Allelic forms of genes encoding IMPs associated with CDA in mice, including AKT1, MAPK14, MAPK8, STAT3, CAS3, and TP53, are genetic determinants of CDA in patients. Two genetic risk scores for pediatric patients (n = 71) and women with breast cancer (n = 420) were generated using machine-learning Least Absolute Shrinkage and Selection Operator (LASSO) regression. Thus, IMPs associated with heart damage identify genetic markers of CDA risk, thereby allowing more personalized patient management.

Genetically encoded voltage indicators (GEVIs) enable optical recording of electrical signals in the brain, providing subthreshold sensitivity and temporal resolution not possible with calcium indicators. However, one- and two-photon voltage imaging over prolonged periods with the same GEVI has not yet been demonstrated. Here, we report engineering of ASAP family GEVIs to enhance photostability by inversion of the fluorescence-voltage relationship. Two of the resulting GEVIs, ASAP4b and ASAP4e, respond to 100-mV depolarizations with ≥180% fluorescence increases, compared with the 50% fluorescence decrease of the parental ASAP3. With standard microscopy equipment, ASAP4e enables single-trial detection of spikes in mice over the course of minutes. Unlike GEVIs previously used for one-photon voltage recordings, ASAP4b and ASAP4e also perform well under two-photon illumination. By imaging voltage and calcium simultaneously, we show that ASAP4b and ASAP4e can identify place cells and detect voltage spikes with better temporal resolution than commonly used calcium indicators. Thus, ASAP4b and ASAP4e extend the capabilities of voltage imaging to standard one- and two-photon microscopes while improving the duration of voltage recordings.

El objetivo de la investigación es proponer las acciones que deben llevar a cabo, tanto docentes como estudiantes durante el proceso de construcción textual. Por ello se realizó una entrevista a los protagonistas del proceso formativo para constatar el estado actual de la enseñanza – aprendizaje de la construcción textual en la universidad. Se revisaron el modelo del profesional, así como los objetivos y contenidos de los programas de las disciplinas y asignaturas del área de las humanidades, de las carreras Licenciatura en Periodismo, Ingeniería Eléctrica, Licenciatura en Contabilidad y en Educación Especial para constatar las habilidades, conocimientos y valores que se pretenden desarrollar en los futuros profesionales, en cuanto la construcción de textos y finalmente se puso en práctica la propuesta.

ABSTRACT The physiological quality of soya bean seeds is a determining factor in establishing the crop in the field. The aim of the present study was to evaluate the physiological quality of soya bean seeds produced by plants grown from seeds of different sizes in two crop seasons. The BS 2606 SOYTECH, NS 6700 IPRO, NA 5909 RR, BS IRGA 1642 IPRO and LANÇA 58i60 IPRO cultivars were used, sown in 2019/2020 and 2020/2021. The experimental design was of randomised blocks, with treatments comprising seeds from plants grown from seeds of three sieve sizes (5.5, 6.0 and 6.5 mm for cultivars BS2606, NS 6700 IPRO, NA 5909 RR, LANÇA; and 6.0, 6.5 and 7.0 mm for the BS IRGA 1642 IPRO cultivar). The following tests were conducted: germination, first germination count, shoot and root length, total seedling dry weight, seedling emergence, accelerated ageing and electrical conductivity. The results were subjected to analysis of variance, and the mean values were compared using Tukey’s test at 5% probability. The size classification of the soya bean seeds has no effect on the germination of the seeds that are produced. Higher seed vigour in the NA 5909 RR cultivar, determined by the seedling emergence test, and accelerated ageing in NS 6700 IPRO, were obtained from seeds produced by plants grown from seeds classified as a sieve size of 6.5 mm. For the other cultivars, the size classification of the seeds had no effect on the vigour of the produced seeds.

Introdução: Estima-se que 1/4 da população mundial esteja infectada com Mycobacterium tuberculosis, com maior risco de doença concentrado nos primeiros anos após a infecção primária, porém o período de latência pode durar anos. Tanto a infecção pelo HIV como o envelhecimento são fatores de risco para tuberculose ativa(Tb). No entanto, existe uma lacuna na compreensão do risco de Tb na população de pessoas idosas que vivem com HIV(PIVHA). Objetivo: Avaliar a prevalência de infecção latente por tuberculose(ILTB) em PIVHA e fatores associados. Método: Estudo incluiu PIVHA (≥ 50 anos) em terapia antirretroviral em quatro centros de 3 cidades brasileiras. Exames laboratoriais, incluindo IGRA (Interferon-gama release assay) para ILTB foram realizados. Aqueles com história documentada de tuberculose ativa/tratada ou com resultado de IGRA ausente/inconclusivo foram excluídos. ILTB foi definida por IGRA positivo no baseline ou IGRA ou PPD(prova tuberculínica) previamente positivo. As razões de prevalência de ILTB foram avaliadas por modelos de regressão de Poisson modificados não ajustados e multivariados, considerando covariáveis como idade, sexo ao nascer, raça, anos de diagnóstico de HIV, cidade de residência, escolaridade, renda, insegurança alimentar, uso atual de álcool/substâncias/tabaco e contagem de células TCD4 no baseline. Resultados: Excluidos 158 participantes por histórico de Tb ativa e 72 por resultados testes de ILTB ausentes/inconclusivos. 473 PIVHA foram incluídos na análise. Idade média de 62 anos; 293 (62%) sexo masculino ao nascer; 129 (29%) pardos e 101 (21%) negros. A mediana de anos de diagnóstico de HIV foi de 23; mediana do número de residentes no domicílio foi 2; 110 (23%) relataram renda familiar mensal < 1 salário mínimo; 95 (20%) tinham < 8 anos de escolaridade; e a mediana da contagem de células TCD4 foi de 752 células/μL. A prevalência de ILTB foi de 169/473 (36%), variando entre as cidades (44% Rio de Janeiro, 38% São Paulo e 23% Salvador). Na análise multivariada, contagem de células TCD4 (< 500 vs. ≥ 900 aPR:0,64 [IC95% 0,45-0,93]) e renda (< 1 vs 1-3 salários mínimos aPR:1,53 [IC95% 1,09-3.14]) foram associados ao risco de ILTB. Conclusão: Encontramos elevada prevalência de ILTB em PIVHA, particularmente associada à contagem de células TCD4 e baixa renda. Estes dados evidenciam a urgência de iniciativas para aumentar o acesso a testes de diagnóstico de ILTB e ao seu tratamento para reduzir o risco de doença e morte por tuberculose nesta população.

Introdução: Com a limitação de esquemas terapêuticos para individualização do tratamento do HIV no Brasil pelo Sistema Único de Saúde, a simplificação é uma das estratégias de individualização para pessoas que vivem com HIV (PVHA) com comorbidades-toxicidades. Objetivo: Avaliar fatores associados a indicação de simplificação para terapia dupla baseada em Dolutegravir + Lamivudina. Método: Estudo de coorte retrospectivo avaliou PVHA no CRT DST/AIDS, São Paulo, utilizando Dolutegravir + Lamivudina por ≥48 semanas. Os dados foram coletados de prontuários, sistema de controle de medicamentos e de controle laboratorial e inseridos na plataforma REDCap. A análise foi realizada utilizando modelo de regressão de Poisson modificado não ajustado e multivariado. Resultados: No serviço, de 7.000 PVHA, 919 eram elegíveis. A mediana de uso de TD (terapia dupla) foi de 26,2 meses. Mediana de idade de 50,8 anos, com 82,3% designados do sexo masculino ao nascer; 69,3% raça branca. Tempo médio desde o diagnóstico de HIV foi 11,8 anos; tempo médio de exposição à TARV 9,1 anos; mediana de regimes de TARV anteriores foi de 3. Principais motivos para uso de TD: conveniência posológica (29,9%), comorbidades-toxicidades renais (21,8%) e ósseas (21,7%). Em relação à conveniência posológica, indivíduos com ≤ 5 anos de uso de TARV tiveram probabilidade 1,7 vezes maior de iniciar TD do que aqueles com ≥ 15 anos (RP = 1,69; IC95%: 1,26 – 2,27, p < 0,001). Para comorbidade-toxicidade renal, raça e idade foram fatores independentes para TD (p = 0,006 e p = 0,004). A raça negra teve chance 1,7 vezes maior de TD do que a branca (RP = 1,74; IC95%: 1,18 – 2,57), e aqueles com idade entre 50 e 69 anos tiveram chance 2,6 maior em comparação com 18 a 29 anos (RP = 2,58; IC95%: 1,48 – 4,45). Sexo e idade foram fatores independentes para início de TD em relação a comorbidade-toxicidade óssea (p = 0,001 e p < 0,001). Indivíduos do sexo feminino ao nascer tiveram chance 1,6 vezes maior de uso de TD do que do sexo masculino (RP = 1,57; IC95%: 1,21 – 2,04), e aqueles com idade entre 50 e 69 anos tiveram probabilidade 3,9 maior em comparação aos de 18 a 29 anos (RP = 3,92; IC95%: 1,87 – 8,18). Conclusão: O estudo destaca as comorbidades-toxicidades como os principais motivos do uso de TD em idosos que vivem com HIV. Estes achados estão alinhados com as diretrizes nacionais e podem reforçar o desenvolvimento de políticas de saúde pública, enfatizando a importância de abordagens terapêuticas personalizadas para PVHA.

Introdução: Terapia dupla (TD) com dolutegravir + lamivudina é aprovado no Brasil para uso em pessoas que vivem com HIV (PVHA) em uso de terapia antirretroviral (TARV), virologicamente suprimidos, com contra indicação ou risco de desenvolver toxicidade/evento adverso relacionado aos ITRNT (Inibidores da transcriptase reversa análogos de núcleosídeos/nucleotídeos). A eficácia desta estratégia foi demonstrada em estudos clínicos e em coortes de vida real, principalmente na Europa e USA, com poucos dados da América Latina. Objetivo: Avaliar a eficácia na manutenção da supressão viral (SV) numa coorte de PVHA, sem teste prévio de resistência. Método: Coorte retrospectiva de PVHA acompanhadas no CRT-DST/AIDS-SP, em uso de TD baseado em Dolutegravir + Lamivudina por ≥ 48 semanas. Dados captutados de prontuário médico, SICLOM, SISCEL e inseridos na plataforma REDCAP. A análise foi realizada utilizando plataforma STATA 17.0 na população do estudo por intenção de tratar (ITT) e por protocolo (PP), excluindo óbitos e perdas de seguimento. Resultados: De 7.000 PVHA, 919 eram elegíveis, tempo médio de TD de 26,2 meses. 82,9% (757)-homens cisgêneros, 69,3% (637)-raça branca, idade 50,8 anos. Tempo médio de infecção pelo HIV de 11,8 anos, de exposição aos ARV 9,1 anos e regimes ARVs prévios 2. Os principais motivos para TD foram: simplificação 29,9%, comorbidade/toxicidade renal 21,8% e óssea 21,7%. Desfechos da TD: 872 PVHA mantidos em TD, 15 mortes, 13 perdas de seguimento e 19 mudanças de terapia, sendo 7 eventos adversos, 3 erros de indicação, 2 decisões médicas e 7 desfechos virológicos (6 falhas virológicas (FV) em pacientes multi-experimentados e 1 blip). As taxas de manutenção da TD no período do estudo nas populações ITT e PP foram de 94,9% e 97,8%, respectivamente. A taxa de FV na população PP foi de 0,7%. Na análise de Kaplan-Meier e Cox, variáveis independentemente associadas à manutenção da TD foram sexo ao nascer (p = 0,008), idade (p < 0,001), raça (p = 0,006). Maior risco de descontinuação da TD: genêro masculino (p = 0,010), raça negra/parda (p = 0,002/ p = 0,006) e motivo da indicação de TD ser simplificação (p = 0,024). Idosos foram relacionados a maiores taxas de manutenção de TD. O tempo de exposição aos ARVs não foi relacionado à manutenção de TD nas duas análises. Conclusão: O estudo fornece evidências reais que apoiam o uso da TD no Brasil, com alta taxa de manutenção da SV(97,8%), baixa taxa de FV(0,7%), tornando-a uma opção segura mesmo para PVHA sob tratamento antirretroviral há muito tempo.

O cultivo de morangueiro em substrato, está em ascensão, dessa forma, muitos aspectos relacionados com o manejo tem se modificado entre esses está a época de plantio do morangueiro. Dessa forma, objetivo dessa pesquisa foi caracterizar agronomicamente cultivares de morangueiro em substrato em período de plantio tardio em sistema orgânico de produção. As cultivares avaliadas foram ALPINA10 e CAV 56.9 (neutros aos dias) e CAV 107.7 e CAV 107.12 (curtos aos dias). Utilizou-se um delineamento experimental em parcelas subdivididas, com três repetições para cada genótipo. As avaliações incluíram aspectos fenológicos, características das plantas e produção. As plantas da cultivar ALPINA10 apresentam comportamento tardio em todos os aspectos fenológicos avaliados, A ALPINA10 apresentou maior crescimento vegetativo e produtivo em comparação a CAV 56.9. Já a CAV 107.12 apresentou um crescimento mais robusto do que a CAV 107.7. Para as condições de plantio tardio a cultivar de dia neutro ALPINA 10 e de dia curto CAV 107.12 apresentaram maior crescimento vegetativo e produção. Entretanto, devido o período de plantio os valores para todas as cultivares pesquisadas são inferiores não sendo indicado o plantio tardio.

Abstract Integrative social–ecological approaches are crucial for addressing sustainability challenges in coastal and marine systems. Among these, Marine Spatial Planning (MSP) emerges as a pivotal approach for integrated management. Often, the establishment of Marine Protected Areas (MPAs) and the application of MSP occur in parallel. Given the potential synergies, there is a need to better understand and address barriers to the adoption of MSP approaches for integrative conservation mechanisms. Using São Tomé and Príncipe as a case study, we illustrate how MSP was employed as an operational framework for establishing an MPA network. Drawing on the experiences of people directly involved in this co‐design process, we reflect on the main challenges and opportunities in achieving social–ecological integration, and highlight recommendations for conservation practitioners and planners. Applying MSP was perceived to contribute substantially to multiple project goals, with some (e.g., incorporating perspectives and needs of vulnerable groups) more challenging to achieve. While MSP enhanced conceptual, disciplinary, methodological and functional integration, practical challenges in implementation hindered the extent to which each of these was achieved. Given international commitments to Blue Growth, high fisheries dependence and current patterns of change, developing effective integrative MSP approaches is essential for social–ecological resilience.

A hiperinsulinemia é a principal causa de hipoglicemia persistente e recorrente na infância. Este relato de caso apresenta o desafio diagnóstico e de tratamento da hipoglicemia hiperinsulinêmica em uma lactente com síndrome genética. Descrevemos um paciente nascido a termo, pequeno para idade gestacional, com estigmas genéticos, que foi internado em UTI neonatal devido ao baixo peso e complicações. Descrevemos também a evolução clínica até os dois anos de idade. Com a suspeita de síndrome genética, foi realizado o exame genético, confirmando a síndrome de Shashi-Pena.

ABSTRACT Objective Determining the etiology of hyperprolactinemia is fundamental for selecting the most appropriate treatment strategy. The aim of this study was to evaluate the usefulness and accuracy of prolactin levels in predicting the etiology of nonphysiological hyperprolactinemia. Subjects and methods In this retrospective study, we reviewed medical records of patients with nonphysiological hyperprolactinemia seen at two neuroendocrine reference centers located in Recife, Brazil, from January 2000 to December 2019. Results The study included 770 patients aged 12-73 years (65% female). The three most frequent etiologies of hyperprolactinemia were prolactinomas (n = 263; 34.2%), drug-induced hyperprolactinemia (n = 160; 20.8%), and macroprolactinemia (n = 120; 15.6%). The highest mean prolactin levels were observed in cases of prolactinomas and idiopathic hyperprolactinemia. Most patients with hyperprolactinemia due to other etiologies had prolactin levels < 100 ng/mL, but these levels were also found in 16.5% of patients with microproplactinomas and in 20% of those with idiopathic hyperprolactinemia. Likewise, prolactin levels largely overlapped among patients with microprolactinomas, macroprolactinemia, and drug-induced hyperprolactinemia. Notably, prolactin levels > 250 ng/mL enabled a clear distinction between the etiologies of macroprolactinoma and nonfunctioning pituitary adenoma. Moreover, prolactin levels > 500 ng/mL were highly suggestive of macroprolactinomas, although they were also found in very few patients ( 250 ng/mL allowed a clear distinction between macroprolactinomas and nonfunctioning pituitary adenomas. Furthermore, prolactin levels > 500 ng/mL were almost exclusively found in patients with prolactinomas.

Objective: Global healthcare costs continue to rise annually, and this is a major challenge given the scarce resources and growing prices of innovative drugs. An interesting alternative for reducing costs is the use of biosimilars. This study aimed to assess the financial impact of introducing biosimilars of the drugs adalimumab, rituximab and trastuzumab in a Cancer Institute of a Philanthropic Hospital in the South of the country. Method: This is a retrospective, descriptive study in which a budgetary impact analysis was used to assess the savings generated by the biosimilars standardized at the institution between January 2020 and December 2023. Information on the average cost and monthly consumption of the three biosimilars: adalimumab, rituximab and trastuzumab was used to assess the financial impact. The economic analysis was carried out using the difference between the cost of the biosimilar and the cost of the reference drug, multiplied by annual consumption. Results: It was evidenced during the study period the cost reduction after switching the reference biological with the corresponding biosimilar was R$ 1.540.701,18 (U$ 279.077,14) for adalimumab, R$ 129.824,93 (U$ 23.516,03) for rituximab and R$ 1.604.319,28 (U$ 290.600,70) for trastuzumab. The analysis identified that the standardization of biosimilars at the institution resulted in a global economy of R$ 3.274.845,39 (U$ 593.193,87). Conclusion: The use of biosimilars proved to be a more economical option when compared to the use of the reference biological. In conclusion, the use of biosimilars allows for a considerable reduction in overall treatment costs, especially in the case of innovative and expensive therapies. Therefore, the incorporation of biosimilars is considered an interesting option in the search for the sustainability of health systems.

Solving arithmetic word problems is a complex task that requires individuals to activate their working memory resources, as well as the correct performance of the underlying executive processes involved in order to inhibit semantic biases or superficial responses caused by the problem's statement. This paper describes a study carried out with 135 students of Secondary Obligatory Education, each of whom solved 5 verbal arithmetic problems: 2 consistent problems, whose mathematical operation (add/subtract) and the verbal statement of the problem coincide, and 3 inconsistent problems, whose required operation is the inverse of the one suggested by the verbal term(s). Measures of reading comprehension, visual--spatial reasoning and deductive reasoning were also obtained. The results show the relationship between arithmetic problems and cognitive measures, as well as the ability of these problems to predict academic performance. Regression analyses confirmed that arithmetic word problems were the only measure with significant power of association with academic achievement in both History/Geography ([beta] = 0.25) and Mathematics ([beta] = 0.23).
