The ocular microbiome is of fundamental importance for immune eye homeostasis, and its alteration would lead to an impairment of ocular functionality. Little evidence is reported on the composition of the ocular microbiota of term infants and on the impact of antibiotic prophylaxis. Methods: A total of 20 conjunctival swabs were collected from newborns at birth and after antibiotic treatment. Samples were subjected to 16S rRNA sequencing via system MiSeq Illumina. The data were processed with the MicrobAT software and statistical analysis were performed using two-way ANOVA. Results: Antibiotic prophylaxis with gentamicin altered the composition of the microbiota. In detail, a 1.5- and 2.01-fold reduction was recorded for Cutibacterium acnes (C. acnes) and Massilia timonae (M. timonae), respectively, whereas an increase in Staphylococcus spp. of 6.5 times occurred after antibiotic exposure. Conclusions: Antibiotic prophylaxis altered the ocular microbiota whose understanding could avoid adverse effects on eye health.

BackgroundAcquired aplastic anemia (AAA) in pediatric patients is a rare disorder characterized by hypocellular bone marrow and pancytopenia. Eltrombopag, an oral thrombopoietin receptor agonist, provides a hematologic improvement in adults with severe aplastic anemia (SAA) refractory to immunosuppressive therapy (IST). The association of ELT and IST was approved by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for adults and children ≥2 years of age as a first-line treatment for SAA. However, the effects of ELT on pediatric patients with SAA remain controversial and limited.Methods and findingsWe conducted a systematic review of the most recent literature from Pubmed, Web of Science, and Embase, published up to 20th December 2022, in order to evaluate the available evidence on the efficacy and safety of ELT added to IST for the treatment of SAA in the pediatric population.ConclusionEltrombopag added to the IST has shown a good safety profile, without manifestations of excessive toxic effects, although not all the results obtained from our studies support the addition of ELT to the IST in the first-line treatment of children with SAA.Systematic Review Registrationhttps://www.crd.york.ac.uk/prospero/, identifier: CRD42022325859.

BackgroundBlinatumomab is a bispecific CD19-directed CD3 T-cell engager that has proven efficacy in children with relapsed or refractory B-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL). Despite its efficacy, it has also been associated with the development of potentially serious adverse events such as the cytokine release syndrome (CRS) and neurologic events. The present meta-analysis aimed to assess the safety profile of blinatumomab in terms of serious adverse events, CRS, and neurologic events (such as seizure and encephalopathy) in pediatric patients with B-cell ALL.Methods and findingsA systematic review was conducted in Pubmed up to December 10, 2021 to retain pediatric clinical trials on blinatumomab. A random effect meta-analysis approach was used. This study followed the PRISMA statement. Four out of the 255 initial references were selected, of which 2 were phase 1/2 clinical trials and 2 phase 3 clinical trials. Blinatumomab was associated with a lower risk of serious adverse events (Risk ratio RR, 0.56; 95% CI, 0.32–0.99), febrile neutropenia (RR, 0.13; 95% CI, 0.06–0.26), infection (RR, 0.40; 95% CI, 0.29–0.56), and grade ≥ 3 adverse events (RR, 0.79; 95% CI, 0.67–0.93) compared to chemotherapy. No difference in the risk of CRS (RR, 8.37; 95% CI, 0.27–260.97) and seizure (RR, 6.43; 95% CI, 0.79–53.08) was observed between groups, while for encephalopathy a higher risk was associated with blinatumomab compared to chemotherapy (RR, 8.90; 95% CI, 1.08–73.29).ConclusionOur data support the good safety profile of bliantumomab in treating pediatric patients with B-ALL.

Childhood cancer survivors (CCS) are predisposed to the onset of osteoporosis (OP). It is known that iron overload induces osteoclasts (OCs) overactivity and that the iron chelator Deferasirox (DFX) can counteract it. The Cannabinoid Receptor type 2 (CB2) and the transient receptor potential vanilloid type-1 (TRPV1) are potential therapeutic targets for OP. In this study we isolated OCs from peripheral blood of 20 CCS and investigated osteoclast biomarkers expression and iron metabolism evaluating iron release by OCs and the expression of several molecules involved in its regulation. Moreover, we analyzed the effects of CB2 and TRPV1 stimulation in combination with DFX on osteoclast activity and iron metabolism. We observed, for the first time, an osteoclast hyperactivation in CCS suggesting a role for iron in its development. Moreover, we confirmed the well-known role of CB2 and TRPV1 receptors in bone metabolism, suggesting the receptors as possible key biomarkers of bone damage. Moreover, we demonstrated a promising synergism between pharmacological compounds, stimulating CB2 or inhibiting/desensitizing TRPV1 and DFX, in counteracting osteoclast overactivity in CCS to improve their quality of life.

Background: For optimal clinical outcomes in full mouth rehabilitations, it is vital to determine the optimal jaw relations and confirm the appropriate vertical dimension of occlusion (VDO). The current study aims to evaluate various facial measurements as an adjunct in determining VDO in dentate individuals. Methods: A total of one hundred and twenty subjects, sixty males and sixty females, of the age group 19-30 were selected for the study. VDO (chin–nose distance) and other facial measurements like the glabella to subnasion (G-S) distance, both right and left pupil to rima oris (P-R) distance, both right and left corner of mouth to outer canthus of eye (M-E) distance, and both right and left ear to eye (E-e) distance were measured using a Vernier caliper. Results: The mean ± standard deviation of the C-N distance, G-S distance, right P-R distance, right M-E distance, left M-E distance, right E-e distance, and left E-e distance were 67.70 mm ± 3.22 mm, 60.29 mm ± 3.67 mm, 65.99 mm ± 3.72 mm, 66.00 mm ± 3.91 mm, 69.51 mm ± 3.71 mm, 69.48 mm ± 3.68 mm, 69.59 mm ± 3.98 mm, and 69.51 mm ± 3.95 mm, respectively. Pearson’s correlation coefficient between the C-N distance and M-E distance was found to be 0.739 (right), 0.730 (left); that between the C-N distance and E-e distance was found to be 0.738 (right), 0.732 (left); that between the C-N distance and P-R distance was found to be 0.660(right), 0.670(left); and that between the C-N distance and G-s distance was found to be 0.417. Conclusions: The present study reported a high positive correlation between the chin to nose distance and the distance between both the right and left lateral corner of the mouth to the outer canthus of the eye, and the distance between both the right and left ear to the eye. Hence, these measurements can be used as an adjunct for establishing VDO in the edentulous patient.

After a tooth extraction, a dry socket is a common problem that can cause excruciating pain and prevent healing. Antiseptic dressings have historically been the mainstay of treatments for this illness in order to lower bacteria and accelerate healing. Alveogyl is a medicated dressing composed of butamben, iodoform, and eugenol is conventionally used to manage the pain associated with dry socket. The purpose of this study is to assess how well laser therapy treats alveolitis symptoms. The idea that laser therapy is an excellent tool for treating alveolitis is what motivated this meta-analysis. This systematic review aims to evaluate the effects of Level Laser Therapy (LLT) in the treatment of dry socket. Methods: A literature search was done on PubMed, Lilacs, Web of Science, Scopus, and Cochrane using the keywords entered, and papers published between January 2000 and September 2023 were taken into consideration. The terms “laser” and “dry socket” have been merged using the Boolean conjunction AND; the results show that 65 studies could be identified using the three search engines. Only five were selected to create the current systematic study and metanalysis. The meta-analysis demonstrated that laser therapy is superior to the traditional Alvogyl treatment in managing alveolitis symptoms, especially in pain reduction. The overall effect demonstrated a mean difference of −2.01 (95% CI: −2.43 to −1.59) on the third day of treatment, with a p < 0.05, indicating statistical significance. Conclusion: The quantitative analysis showed that Low-Level Laser Therapy demonstrated promising potential in managing alveolitis symptoms, particularly in terms of pain reduction, when compared to traditional treatments like Alvogyl. Despite the results indicating a statistically significant reduction in pain, the evidence does not conclusively establish laser therapy as a complete substitute for conventional therapies. Further high-quality studies with larger sample sizes and standardized protocols are required to confirm its long-term efficacy and to assess its broader applicability in clinical settings.

Abstract Background Transient erythroblastopenia of childhood (TEC) is an acquired, self-limited pure red cell aplasia that usually occurs in children 4 years old and younger. This clinical condition has been priorly described to be linked to numerous viral and immunologic mechanisms. COVID-19, caused by the coronavirus SARS-CoV-2, was initially discovered in China in December 2019. The disease quickly spread worldwide, resulting in pandemic. Case Presentation This manuscript reports a new clinically relevant condition associated to COVID-19, describing a child with clinical and biochemical signs of Pure Red Blood cells aplasia and complete absence of erythroblasts at the bone marrow needle aspiration with signs of erythrophagocytosis, resembling morphological signs such as in hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis (HLH), temporally associated to SARS-CoV-2 infection. Conclusion This report highlights a newly described continuum laboratory and clinical spectrum of immune/hematological dysregulations secondary to SARS-CoV-2. SARS-CoV‐2 infection-linked TEC has never been described in literature, but, according to our findings, should be considered in all the patients with transient erythroblastopenia without congenital red blood cell abnormalities and serology negative for major infections associated with TEC. This condition must be considered in the same spectrum of MIS-C and the inter-links among the two clinical manifestations, as well as a potential interdependence among them, should be considered in the future.

Background: This systematic review aims to critically assess the literature on the debonding process of orthodontic brackets from enamel surfaces. The review evaluates Randomized Controlled Trials (RCTs) to determine the effectiveness and implications of various debonding techniques and materials. Methods: The study followed PRISMA guidelines, selecting RCTs published from 1999 onwards that compared the outcomes of various orthodontic bracket debonding techniques. Selection criteria included studies utilizing human teeth, with outcomes such as enamel surface roughness and Adhesive Remnant Index (ARI) analyzed. Data sources included PubMed, Scopus, Web of Science, and the Cochrane Library. Results: Out of 1,587 records identified, five studies met the inclusion criteria. These studies provided comparative data on the effectiveness of various debonding techniques, including tungsten carbide and diamond burs, in minimizing enamel damage and optimizing adhesive removal. Findings indicated that tungsten carbide burs produced the least enamel roughness. Discussion: Utilizing tungsten carbide burs for debonding orthodontic brackets significantly minimizes enamel surface roughness and potential damage, thereby enhancing the preservation of enamel integrity post-treatment. The systematic review highlights current debonding techniques are effective in adhesive removal, and the choice of instrument significantly affects enamel integrity and clinical outcomes. The findings support the need for continuous improvement and innovation in removing braces to improve orthodontic treatment results and patient satisfaction.

Abstract Osteosarcoma (OS) is the most prevalent and fatal type of bone tumor. It is characterized by great heterogeneity of genomic aberrations, mutated genes, and cell types contribution, making therapy and patients management particularly challenging. A unifying picture of molecular mechanisms underlying the disease could help to transform those challenges into opportunities. This review deeply explores the occurrence in OS of large-scale RNA regulatory networks, denominated “competing endogenous RNA network” (ceRNET), wherein different RNA biotypes, such as long non-coding RNAs, circular RNAs and mRNAs can functionally interact each other by competitively binding to shared microRNAs. Here, we discuss how the unbalancing of any network component can derail the entire circuit, driving OS onset and progression by impacting on cell proliferation, migration, invasion, tumor growth and metastasis, and even chemotherapeutic resistance, as distilled from many studies. Intriguingly, the aberrant expression of the networks components in OS cells can be triggered also by the surroundings, through cytokines and vesicles, with their bioactive cargo of proteins and non-coding RNAs, highlighting the relevance of tumor microenvironment. A comprehensive picture of RNA regulatory networks underlying OS could pave the way for the development of innovative RNA-targeted and RNA-based therapies and new diagnostic tools, also in the perspective of precision oncology.

Abstract Background The temporomandibular joint (TMJ) is a complex joint that facilitates mandibular movements during speech, chewing, and swallowing activities. The Axis I evaluation of the DC/TMD focuses on assessing physical diagnoses related to TMDs. It includes an assessment of pain and functional limitations, such as jaw opening range, joint sounds, and joint tenderness. The Axis II evaluation of the DC/TMD provides information on the patient’s psychological status and quality of life. This Systematic Review with Meta-Analysis aimed to evaluate the accuracy of Temporomandibular Disorders diagnosis considered through the Diagnostic Criteria for Temporomandibular Disorder (DC/TDM) axis II compared to the Axis I evaluations. Methods A search was made in PubMed, Web of Science and Lilacs for articles published from the inception until 20 January 2023. We applied the Population, Exposure, Comparator, and Outcomes (PECO) model [1] to assess document eligibility. Only studies that evaluated patients by DC/TMD Axis I and Axis II were considered. Review Manager version 5.2.8 (Cochrane Collaboration) was used for the pooled analysis. We measured the odds ratio (OR) between the two groups (Axis I and Axis II). Results Fifty-one articles were selected because of the search. Four papers were excluded before the screening: 2 pieces were not in English, and two were reviewed. The remaining 47 articles were selected for the title and abstract screening to evaluate whether they met the PECO criteria. Among these, four papers were established; the overall effect showed that there was no difference in TMD diagnosis between Axis I and Axis II (RR 1.17; 95% CI: 0.80– 1.71; Z:0.82; P = .41), suggesting that there is no difference between Axis I and Axis II. Conclusion In conclusion, DC/TMD is an effective tool for the diagnosis of TMD. It improves the accuracy of TMD diagnosis, allows for the classification of subtypes, and assesses psychosocial factors that may impact the development or maintenance of TMD symptoms.

Abstract Introduction This study focuses on temporomandibular disorders (TMDs), which affect the temporomandibular joint and related muscles and have multiple causes. Recent studies have examined the connection between menstrual cycles, estrogen levels, and TMDs, but results are inconsistent, highlighting the need for more research. The aim is to explore the prevalence of TMDs in pregnant women and consider how hormonal changes during pregnancy might influence these disorders. Methods In this cross-sectional case-control study, we compared 32 pregnant women with 35 non-pregnant women. We evaluated several TMD-related factors such as pain levels, chronic pain classification, scores on the Jaw Functional Limitation Scale-20 and Oral Behaviors Checklist, and psychological health. We used various statistical methods including descriptive statistics, chi-square tests, linear regression, and adjustments for multiple comparisons to analyze the data. Results Pregnant women showed different pain perceptions, generally reporting less pain and lower severity. Nonetheless, these differences were not uniform across all TMD-related measures. Linear regression did not find a consistent link between pregnancy and TMD scores, except for chronic pain grade, which was not significant after adjusting for multiple comparisons. There was a significant relationship between depression and TMD severity, emphasizing the need to consider mental health in TMD evaluations. Discussion The findings suggest that pregnancy is neither a risk nor a protective factor for TMD. Differences in pain perception, functional status, and psychological health were observed in pregnant women but were not consistent for all TMD-related aspects. The role of estrogen in TMJ health and TMD risk is complex and requires further study. The research highlights the necessity of including mental health, especially depression, in TMD assessments. More comprehensive research with larger sample sizes is essential to better understand the connections between pregnancy, TMD, and hormones, aiming to improve TMD management in pregnant women and others.

Abstract Introduction Over the years, implant therapy has been a commonly used treatment option for individuals who are partially or totally edentulous, with a long-term success rate of over 90%. With significant advancements in biomaterials and technology, implant dentistry can now conduct prosthetic rehabilitations in the majority of patients catering to all types of needs. However, in order to meet the demands of a patient base that is always growing, new trends in implantology are emerging in recent years that are focused on minimally invasive surgery and financial sustainability. In certain clinical scenarios, connecting teeth and implants to support fixed partial prosthesis (FPPs) may be a predictable and workable course of treatment. Materials and methods 22 patients were selected for this study who had tooth and implant supported prosthesis placed as a final restoration. Out of these 22 patients; 12 were male and 10 were female patients. Implants were placed following proper protocol and if grafting procedures were required they were carried out. A second stage surgical procedure was carried out and delayed loading protocols were followed. The statistical analysis was done using the IBM SPSS 24.0, Chicago, USA. The survival of the implants and teeth were measured by the Kaplan Meier survival scale. Bone loss was assessed at baseline(upon loading), 12 months and 24 months. Results The implant survival rate was measured at 6 months, 12 months, 18 months and 24 months. At 24 months, one implant showed failure, so the survival rate of the implants were 95.4%. Bone loss of 1 mm was seen around one implant at 12 months. Bone loss of 1 and 2 mm was present around two implants and one implant respectively at 24 months. Conclusion From the results of this study, we can conclude that tooth implant supported prosthesis show very good survival when used in rehabilitation cases.

Abstract Background and objective In recent years, the complex interplay between systemic health and oral well-being has emerged as a focal point for researchers and healthcare practitioners. Among the several important connections, the convergence of Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (T2DM), dyslipidemia, chronic periodontitis, and peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) is a remarkable example. These components collectively contribute to a network of interactions that extends beyond their domains, underscoring the intricate nature of human health. In the current study, bioinformatics analysis was utilized to predict the interactomic hub genes involved in type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM), dyslipidemia, and periodontitis and their relationships to peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMC) by machine learning algorithms. Materials and Methods Gene Expression Omnibus datasets were utilized to identify the genes linked to type 2 diabetes mellitus(T2DM), dyslipidemia, and Periodontitis (GSE156993).Gene Ontology (G.O.) Enrichr, Genemania, and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) pathways were used for analysis for identification and functionalities of hub genes. The expression of hub D.E.G.s was confirmed, and an orange machine learning tool was used to predict the hub genes. Result The decision tree, AdaBoost, and Random Forest had an A.U.C. of 0.982, 1.000, and 0.991 in the R.O.C. curve. The AdaBoost model showed an accuracy of (1.000). The findings imply that the AdaBoost model showed a good predictive value and may support the clinical evaluation and assist in accurately detecting periodontitis associated with T2DM and dyslipidemia. Moreover, the genes with p-value 0.90, which showed excellent predictive value, were thus considered hub genes. Conclusion The hub genes and the D.E.G.s identified in the present study contribute immensely to the fundamentals of the molecular mechanisms occurring in the PBMC associated with the progression of periodontitis in the presence of T2DM and dyslipidemia. They may be considered potential biomarkers and offer novel therapeutic strategies for chronic inflammatory diseases.

Abstract Objective One of the most imprortant factors in achieving ideal teeth positions is the precision of the slot dimensions of orthodontic brackets into the archwires are inserted.This study aimed to assess the accuracy of the dimensions of orthodontic bracket slots and molar buccal tube apertures and to compare them with the specifications provided by the manufacturers. Method A total of sixty brackets and ten molar buccal tubes with varying slot heights were examined using a scanning electron microscope from the mesial side. The dimensions and morphology of these bracket slots and buccal tubes apertures were assessed using the AutoCAD Software. A one-sample t-test was conducted to compare the measurements with the values provided by the manufacturer. Results The findings of the present study indicated that the height of the measured bracket slots and buccal tube apertures dimensions were significantly larger than the actual dimensions and exhibiting divergent walls. On the other hand, the depth of the brackets slots showed significantly smaller values than the actual one. Conclusion A need for careful consideration when selecting a commercially accessible brand for everyday use is essential as certain materials may not meet acceptable standards.

Abstract Introduction The prevalence of adults with partially dental arches is expected to be more than imagined and patients requiring replacement of missing teeth are slowly increasing in number too. Removable partial dentures are known to provide for substantial replacement for the missing teeth with also added advantages when compared to fixed or implant prosthesis, mainly in elderly patients. Denture base material performance and durability are greatly influenced by wettability and water contact angle. In the case of dentures; adequate moisture distribution is necessary to ensure excellent wettability which has an influence on comfort and oral health. The purpose of conducting this study was to find out whether the advancements made using PEEK (Polyether ether ketone) would prove to be more beneficial than the current upgrades in the current material spectrum. Materials and methods This study was performed under in vitro conditions. All the fabrication and processing was done only by one operator. The materials used were divided into three groups each comprising 20 samples. Group A was modified polymethylmethacrylate (Bredent Polyan), Group B was polyoxymethylene acetal resin (Biodentaplast) and Group C was PEEK. An Ossila Goniometer was used to measure the contact angle. The three types of liquids used for the testing included distilled water, natural saliva and mouth wetting solution (Wet Mouth Liquid, ICPA India). Human saliva was collected from an individual with no medical conditions and normal salivary secretion. Results The data was analyzed using One-way ANOVA test and a pairwise comparison using the Post Hoc Tukey’s Honest Significant Difference. Table 1 consists of the mean water contact angles of the denture base materials and mean contact angles of various denture base materials. In saliva, mouth wetting solution and distilled water, the highest mean and least mean contact angle was seen in Polyan and Biodentaplast respectively. A signicant difference was seen between PEEK and Polyan and Biodentaplast and Polyan on further comparison. Conclusion From the resources and the materials at our disposal, it could be concluded that Polyan, Biodentaplast and PEEK and could be used as viable options in cast partial denture framework.

Abstract Introduction Temporomandibular disorder (TMD) is a multifaceted condition impacting the chewing system, with its frequency varying across different age groups and showing a higher incidence in women. The involvement of estrogen in TMD has been examined due to the presence of estrogen receptors in the TMJ area. However, the exact effect of estrogen on TMD is complex. During pregnancy, marked by significant hormonal fluctuations, the impact on TMD has been hypothesized but remains unclear due to inconsistent results from various studies. Methods In this cross-sectional study, we enrolled 32 pregnant women consecutively. We gathered information on demographics, TMD evaluations (using the Graded Chronic Pain Scale, Jaw Functional Limitation Scale-20, and Oral Behaviors Checklist), and mental health assessments (including Patient Health Questionnaire-9, Patient Health Questionnaire-15, and Generalized Anxiety Disorder-7). We employed descriptive statistics to summarize continuous and categorical data and used t-tests and chi-square tests for comparisons. We also conducted multivariate linear regression, adjusted for demographic factors, to investigate correlations. Results The study group mainly consisted of women aged 30–35 (40.6%) and 25–30 (18.8%). Most participants had completed high school (50%) and were married (71.9%). A notable association was found between younger women (under 30) and higher levels of somatic symptoms (p = 0.008) and generalized anxiety (p = 0.015). Women in their second trimester showed lower severity of somatic symptoms (p = 0.04). A significant link was also observed between depression severity and somatic symptom severity (p = 0.01). However, we found no significant correlations with other TMD-related health aspects. Discussion Our study identified significant associations between psychosomatic and psychological symptoms with variables like age and pregnancy trimester in pregnant women. However, it notably failed to establish a clear relationship between pregnancy-related factors and the severity of temporomandibular disorders (TMD). More comprehensive studies with larger participant pools are necessary to further validate and expand these findings.

Abstract Hemorrhage control is a crucial aspect of dental procedures, and achieving efficient hemostasis remains a key challenge. The advent of hemostatic dressings has revolutionized the field of dentistry by providing effective and convenient solutions for managing bleeding in vari-ous dental scenarios. This article aims to provide an overview of hemostatic dressings, their mechanisms of action, and their diverse applications in dentistry. We applied the following Pop-ulation, Exposure, Comparator, and Outcomes (PICO) model to assess the document eligibility. A literature search was performed on major search engines, using keywords. At the end of the search, 3 articles were selected that matched the PICO. Three items were selected after the screen-ing process, and bleeding times were analyzed between the control group and the study group. The overall effect showed a substantial and statistically significant difference with bleeding time in favour of HDD-treated patients, showing that this garrison is very useful in controlling bleed-ing for patients taking anticoagulants and antiplatelets (Mean difference − 5.61; C.I. -5.70, − 5.52); Overall, hemostatic dressings have revolutionized the management of bleeding in dentistry, offering a promising solution to achieve optimal hemostasis, improve treatment outcomes, and enhance patient care, particularly Hemcon.

Abstract Background Bruxism, a common oral parafunctional behavior characterized by the grinding or clenching of teeth, is a multifactorial condition with potentially detrimental effects on oral health and overall well-being. In recent years, there has been growing interest in understanding the relationship between bruxism and alcohol abuse, as both are prevalent issues that may share underlying factors and exacerbate each other. This systematic review, following the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) statement, aims to evaluate the frequency of bruxism among individuals with alcohol abuse. Methods A comprehensive search of electronic databases, including PubMed, Lilacs, Scopus and Web of Science, will be conducted to identify relevant studies published up to the knowledge cutoff date in January 2023. The search strategy will include keywords related to bruxism, alcohol abuse, and their synonyms. Inclusion criteria will encompass original research studies, such as observational, cross-sectional, cohort, and case-control studies, as well as clinical trials, that examine the relationship between bruxism and alcohol abuse. Two independent reviewers will perform the study selection, data extraction, and quality assessment, with discrepancies resolved by consensus. Results The systematic review will present a summary of the identified studies, including the study design, characteristics of the study populations, and key findings related to the association between bruxism and alcohol abuse. The potential mechanisms underlying this relationship will also be explored. Subgroup analyses and the quality of evidence will be assessed. Finally, the implications of this association for clinical practice and further research will be discussed. Conclusions This systematic review will contribute to a better understanding of the interplay between bruxism and alcohol abuse, shedding light on potential risk factors, mechanisms, and clinical implications. The findings may have significant implications for the prevention, management, and treatment of bruxism, particularly in individuals with a history of alcohol abuse.

Abstract Background The Herbst appliance is an excellent therapy for treating class II malocclusions with increased overjet. Its mechanics involve propelling the mandibular bone using two pistons the patient cannot remove. The so-called bite-jumping keeps the mandible in a more anterior position for a variable period, usually at least 6 months. This appliance does not inhibit joint functions and movements, although there are scientific papers in the literature investigating whether this appliance can lead to temporomandibular disorders. This systematic review aims to evaluate whether Herbst’s device can cause temporomandibular diseases by assessing the presence of TMD in patients before and after treatment. Methods A literature search up to 3 May 2023 was carried out on three online databases: PubMed, Scopus and Web of Science. Only studies that evaluated patients with Helkimo scores and Manual functional analysis were considered, as studies that assessed the difference in TMD before and after Herbst therapy. Review Manager version 5.2.8 (Cochrane Collaboration) was used for the pooled analysis. We measured the odds ratio (OR) between the two groups (pre and post-Herbst). Results The included papers in this review were 60. Fifty-seven were excluded. In addition, a manual search was performed. After the search phase, four articles were considered in the study, one of which was found through a manual search. The overall effect showed that there was no difference in TMD prevalence between pre-Herbst and post-Herbst therapy (OR 0.74; 95% CI: 0.33–1.68). Conclusion Herbst appliance seems not to lead to an increase in the incidence of TMD in treated patients; on the contrary, it appears to decrease it. Further studies are needed to assess the possible influence of Herbst on TMDs.

Abstract Introduction Oral diseases are common and affect millions of people worldwide. They can range from mild and easily treatable conditions to more severe and serious diseases. Proper oral hygiene and regular dental monitoring are essential for maintaining good oral health. When it comes to children’s health and well-being, parents’ education level plays a critical role. Research has shown that parents’ higher educational attainment is associated with better health outcomes for their children. Our aim is to evaluate whether parents’ education level and employment influence children oral health and its impact on the family. Methods We enrolled consecutively healthy subjects aged between 0–16 and their parents at the Dental Clinic of the University of Campania “L. Vanvitelli”. Background: Epidermolysis bullosa (EB) is a genetic syndrome afflicting skin and mucous membranes. The manifestation depends on the form: in mild conditions, occasionally, vesicular-bullous lesions of the oral cavity may be present, which heal spontaneously without leaving scars. Patients following joint rupture have scars that limit food intake and restrict quality of life. This study aims to evaluate the possibility of carrying out an implant therapy and the success rate of this therapy. Methods: Until January 3, 2000, PubMed, Web of Science, and Lilacs were searched. Clinical studies were selected that considered implant therapy in patients with epidermolysis bullosa. Articles were therefore selected that addressed oral health and implant survival in patients with epidermolysis, with no differentiation between the various subtypes. A risk of bias assessment was performed through Cochrane. Results: Twenty-one studies were found after the investigation. Only five were chosen to create the current systematic study; 16 articles were skipped over. 10 papers were disregarded because they had been reviewed; 4 were ignored because they contained case studies; and two were omitted because they were not written in English. The results show that implant survival is at around 97%. Conclusions: Patients with epidermolysis bullosa can be treated with implant therapy without the risk of an increased implant failure rate. Numerous studies have explored the association between facial symmetry and the morphology of the eyes. Symmetrical faces are generally perceived as more attractive and are believed to indicate good genetic health. As a result, research has focused on the measurements of ocular symmetry, including inter-eye distance, eye shape, and eyelid symmetry. It has been found that individuals with more symmetrical eyes are often perceived as more attractive and exhibit enhanced social desirability. The eyes play a crucial role in facial expression and are vital sensory organs. A 49-year-old patient presented with a chief complaint of facial disfigurement due to shrunken right eyelids resulting from trauma-related evisceration. Various techniques for iris positioning have been reported in the literature, but they have had limitations. This clinical report presents an improved and effective technique utilizing a customized iris positioning device, consisting of a transparent graph sheet attached to a forehead clip. The customized ocular prosthesis significantly improved the patient’s quality of life and restored her self-confidence. The customized iris positioning device offered enhanced proximity to the eye and provided several advantages, including accurate pupil centralization, customization, re-verification, and being cost-effective.
