Abstract

Aim To assess the prevalence, distribution, and associated risk factors of severe early childhood caries (S-ECC) among 12- to 36-month-old children of district Sirmaur, Himachal Pradesh, India. Materials and methods The present study was conducted on a random sample of 510 children, both boys and girls, between 12 and 36 months of age randomly selected from various government-sponsored day-care centers, private day-care centers, and vaccination centers. Caries was recorded using World Health Organization criteria. Statistical analysis was done by using chi-square test and Mann–Whitney test. A two-sided p value was calculated for each statistical test. Multiple logistic regressions were done to calculate the risk of S-ECC from independent variables. Results In the present study, S-ECC was found in 21% of 510, 12 to 36 months old children of Sirmaur district, Himachal Pradesh. The S-ECC was found to be significantly higher in 25 to 36 months old children's age group and was 27.8% in them as compared with 8% in 12 to 24 months old children. Conclusion Providing anticipatory guidance and education to parents is essential for the promotion of optimal oral health of their children. There is a need for moving upstream to propose and implement policies and programs to improve the oral health of the very young, especially in a developing country like India, which lacks much data on S-ECC. Abstract

Between 2015-2017, local police, state troopers and emergency medical personnel in Atlantic County, NJ collected data on opioid overdose victims within the County. Forms on 311 overdose victims were ultimately completed. Early in 2018, a partnership between the Atlantic County Prosecutor's Office and Stockton University was formed in order to analyze this information and better understand Atlantic County's opioid overdose statistics. Results painted a picture of who is using, and showed that quick response to opioid overdoses and prompt administration of the drug naloxone can save lives. Recommendations for the future include collecting additional data points for overdose victims going forward to allow for deeper study, along with increased distribution of naloxone. Abstract

Objectives: This study compares the efficiency of manual K-files, rotary Protaper and HyFlex files in cleaning efficiency and instrumentation time in permanent & primary molars. Materials and Methods: Thirty primary and thirty permanent teeth were selected and instrumented with manual K-files, rotary ProTaper and Hyflex files. The teeth were decalcified, dehydrated and cleared, and analyzed for the presence of dye remaining on the root canal walls, which served as an evidence of cleaning efficiency of both manual and rotary techniques. Results: The results showed a statistically significant difference in the cleaning efficiency of K-file & ProTaper in the apical & middle thirds of the root canals between primary & permanent root canals. The difference in instrumentation time taken with K-file, ProTaper & Hyflex was higher for ProTaper in both primary & permanent root canals & least for Hyflex but found to be not significant. Abstract

Avulsion of tooth is a grievous injury and ranges from .5-16 % of all injuries in permanent dentition and 7-21% in primary dentition, of which maxillary anterior are commonest. Most susceptible group is children between 7-14 years. Healing following avulsion and replantation is dependent on the extent of pulpal and periodontal ligament (PDL) tissue damage. Therefore, immediate replantation is the recommended treatment of choice for an avulsed permanent tooth. To achieve a more favorable prognosis following tooth replantation, minimal extra-oral dry storage for tooth & use of an appropriate interim transport medium is usually advocated. Replanted tooth should be monitored regularly and radiographically. To emphasize the various aspects of avulsion, research based information has been incorporated. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

The radio spectrum is a resource which unlike other resources, is not consumed - it is being wasted when not being used. Effective management of this valuable resource is necessary because of the limited number of channels that are physically available for use. Without regulation, stations operating on the same channel in the same general area will inevitably interfere with each other and often also with others on adjacent channels. Therefore, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) regulates the use of this national resource in accordance with rules which have been developed and continue to evolve. These rules relate to all kinds of broadcast services including AM & FM radio and TV. In defining the technical specifications of a new broadcast facility, the engineer must try to achieve an optimum system design while conforming to all FCC rules and regulations. The design process is divided into a number of stages which include channel and frequency selection, site selection, protection and interference studies, topographic studies, and an environmental impact statement considering the area in the vicinity of the facilities. These specifications must then be submitted to the FCC as a formal proposal. This report describes the design approach used in industry to specify the technical details of such a proposal and highlights the tradeoffs which are made at almost every stage of the process. The hardware needed to implement the technical details specified must be selected.
