Employee retention (ER) among academic staff remains a major challenge for the universities and deserve more attention from researchers. Due to radical change in teaching method place additional pressure on the academic staff and lead to high turnover. Job embeddedness can be more significantly explain the variance in ER. However, little research done to examine the relationship between Off-the-job-embeddedness (JEoff) and on-the-job-embeddedness (JEon). Furthermore, due to the unclear conclusion for the impact of JEoff and JEon on ER based on past studies, this study aims to exam the relationship between JEoff and JEon as well as both impact on ER. The stratified sampling technique was used to draw 482 samples from population. The model was tested by applying The Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modelling (PLS-SEM). JEoff and JEon were found to have direct significant impact on ER. But the effect size of JEoff on ER is smaller as compared with JEon. Moreover, JEoff could be related to JEon significantly with the largest level of effect-size. ER could be increased by enhancing JEoff through JEon as mediator. This study provides additional insight for human resource practitioners from Malaysian Private Universities in designing more effective system to retain their academic staff.

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to determine the relationship between total productive maintenance (TPM), kaizen event (KE) and innovation performance (IP) for Malaysian automotive industry using structural equation modeling (SEM). Design/methodology/approach The samples were selected from the list of Proton and Perodua automotive industry. The number of collected respondents was 238 respondents. An SEM technique was used in the study. In order to test the reliability and validity of the instrument, reliability analysis, exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis were conducted. Findings Based on the results, KE does not affect the relationship between TPM and IP. However, the impact of TPM on IP increases with mediating of KE for Malaysian automotive industry. Thus, this study has shown that empirical test results prove that the implementation of TPM and KE has improved the IP for Malaysian automotive industry. Research limitations/implications This study only focused on the Malaysian automotive industry. The other limitation in this research is the number of factors and limited measurement in this study. Only a few TPM, KE and IP measurements were considered. By using the SEM technique, four TPM constructs, three for KE constructs and three for IP measures were developed and verified. Therefore, this study can assist the researchers and practitioners to the practice of TPM, KE and IP for Malaysian automotive industry. Originality/value This research provides fundamental knowledge and direction for researchers in further research as well as practitioners to constantly improve IP through the implementation of TPM and KE for Malaysian automotive industry.

Lean manufacturing practices (LMPs) focus on the systematic elimination of waste and non-value added activity from the production process in order improve environmental performance (EP). Meanwhile, ISO 14001 is an international standard that assists managers to reduce environmental impact and to expand business. The aim of this study is to examine the relationship between LMP, ISO 14001, and EP for Malaysian automotive suppliers. In this study, 275 sets of questionnaires were successfully collected, being a 68.8% response rate. The structural equation modelling technique was utilized to perform the statistical analysis of the data survey. Reliability analysis, exploratory factor analysis, and confirmatory factor analysis were carried out. In the world of information technology, business process requires a decision-making tool that is effective and systematic in measuring and assessing the current performance of the organization and enhances its competitive edge. In this study, the development of strategic balanced scorecard tool (SBST) for the Malaysian automotive industry was developed using the Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) methodology, which involves building a hierarchy of SBST, calculating relative weights of SBST by pairwise comparison, rating SBST measures, calculating performance scores, and ranking companies based on their scores. Further to that, an Excel-based tool was developed for automating the calculation of SBST for automotive industry. These SBSTs contribute to assist practitioners to evaluate internal performance, vendor performance, and in decision-making process to select the suppliers or reward the best supplier.

Automotive industry is one of the most active industries involved in the quality effort, low production cost, and continuous improvement activities. Today, lean six sigma (LSS) is integrated with strategic control system that has assisted organizations to achieve better organizational performance through high-level continuous improvement activity and better saving in terms of operation and quality cost. Analytic hierarchy process methodology was used in developing a tool of lean six sigma performance improvement to measure the performance of automotive companies. This tool was developed using a system based on Excel. Five case studies were prepared to validate this tool. The result of these case studies suggested that this tool was timely and suitable to determine organizational performance of automotive companies. Through these case studies, this tool was able to identify the strength and weaknesses that directed to where and how improvement should be done.

Customer needs for tourism industry in Malaysia has change. To deal with it, business that involve in tourism industry should follow the customer’s standard according to latest situation. Services standard should be improve using correct ways. In this paper, we share the value of knowledge management and process innovation. This is because we believe that any changes by these organizations will be more effective using the values of knowledge management and process innovation. The values of knowledge management are management leadership, organizational learning and performance measurement while process innovations are organizational innovation and incremental process innovation. The purpose of this paper is to investigate the relationship between knowledge management and process innovation in Malaysia tourism industry. Based on previous studies, a research model has been developed.

This paper offers an in-depth analysis of efficiency and productivity changes using the Hicks–Moorsteen total factor productivity index, in the context of higher education institutions. Unlike the Malmquist method, this approach makes no assumptions about firms' returns to scale conditions. We assume that the production technology exhibits variable returns to scale, which is more plausible than the constant returns to scale assumption, because universities usually operate at suboptimal scales. Three major groupings of Malaysian public universities are used in our case study: research, comprehensive, and focused universities. The results show that technical efficiency has improved after the 2007 National Higher Education Strategic Plan within all the three university groupings.

The purpose of this study is to examine the relationship between sustainable manufacturing practices, lean improvement, and performance in Malaysian automotive industry by using structural equation modelling technique. Survey questionnaires were used among 227 managers in Malaysian automotive industry. SEM technique was used to test the statistical analysis of the data required in the study. Based on the results, sustaining lean improvement is part of a mediating relationship between sustainable manufacturing practices and performance which is positive results. For this purpose, it assists academicians and researchers for sustainable manufacturing practices implementation in order to assist the automotive industry to increase lean improvement and performance.

The purpose of this paper is to determine the implementation of total productive maintenance in Malaysian automotive industry. 400 questionnaires were distributed to Malaysian automotive industry and 229 were completed, giving a response rate of 57.25%. Based on the developed models, the results of the study provide guidance for effective implementation of total productive maintenance in Malaysian automotive industry. This study makes a new contribution to the Malaysian automotive industry for total productive maintenance implementation. This study provides important information for decision makers to implement total productive maintenance in automotive industry and also provides useful information for future researchers in the total productive maintenance area.

The purpose of this paper is to explore the impact of technological capability on power, trust and inter-firm relationships performance within the supply chain. This study proposes to utilise quantitative design as a main approach to answer the research question. The data will be collected by using survey questionnaires. The sample of this study will consist of manufacturing companies which are listed in the Federation of Malaysian Manufacturers (FMM) directory. The structural equation modelling (SEM) approach will be employed in order to test the proposed hypotheses in this study. Evidence from previous research has supported the advantages of keeping long lasting inter-firm relationships. Scholars suggest that inter-firm relationships will enable both parties to enjoy overall business performance and new product development opportunity. The literature findings confirmed the notion that technological capability can create competitive advantage for members of the supply chain. However, possessing such capability may create power imbalance which leads to deterioration of the inter-firm relationship. The manufacturing companies can benefits from this study by understanding the potential impact of technological capability on power, and how this association affect the inter-firm relationships. It may furnish useful information on the advantages and disadvantages of possessing such capability which can be the basis of making future investment decision related to the technological capability expansion.

Nowadays, in international business dynamic, supply chain management has become a critical strategic initiative in a global competitive environment. In consequence of increased competition in both domestic and international market, firm can no longer effectively compete in isolation of the suppliers and other entities in the supply chain. Supply Chain Management (SCM) practices have mostly been analyzed in manufacturing business. The SCM has been recognized as a strategy that could lead companies to gain competitive advantage, other than to achieve greater business performance. The SCM seeks to enhance competitive performance by closely integrating internal functions within a company and effectively linking them with external operations of suppliers, customers, and other channel members. There are several elements that can be selected to support SCM practices and organizational performance in the automotive industries. The purpose of this study is to propose a structural relationship of supply chain management practices and organizational performance model for Malaysian automotive industries. Since this study is a concept paper, most of the previous study taken as a basic guided for this research. Therefore, the conceptual model using Structural Equation Model (SEM) has been proposed and research hypothesis are also being developed. The paper culminates with suggested future research.

The objective of this paper is to identify the dimension of Entrepreneurship Practices (EP) and Business Performance (BP) for women entrepreneurs in Malaysia. It is also to develop a conceptual framework and hypothesis for the relationship of EP and BP among women entrepreneurs in Malaysia. The population of this study is Malaysian women entrepreneurs. Women entrepreneur in Malaysia are chosen because of their potential role in business dan economy development. In future research, questionnaires will be distributed to respondents from the listing of women entrepreneur association in Malaysia. To analyze the data, the statistical packages for the social science (SPSS) version 21 will be used to analyze preliminary data (reliability test, mean, standard deviation and frequencies). To build and test research model, Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) technique will be used. The dimension of EP and BP are identified and a conceptual framework has been proposed. This framework will be used to study the relationship of EP and BP among women entrepreneurs in Malaysia. Based on the proposed conceptual framework, the hypothesis is developed and future research is also included. The dimension and relationship of EP and BP hope to contribute to women entrepreneurship literature and research model as a benchmark for use to suit the goals of the organization, culture and business environment.
