Disseminated Kaposi sarcoma became rare with the application of antiretroviral therapy. Oral AIDS-associated KS has prognostic relevance, indicating higher mortality than those with cutaneous lesions only. In this study, we reported a 40-year-old man presented with ulcerated violaceous plaques on his hard palate. Similar lesion can be observed on his left groin and anus, as well as on esophagus and gastric fundus under upper gastrointestinal endoscopy. Histological examination accorded with KS. Herein, we examine if a single intratracheal instillation of CeO2 nanoparticles is associated with systemic toxicity in male Sprague-Dawley rats.Methods and results: Compared with control animals, CeO2 nanoparticle exposure was associated with increased liver ceria levels, elevations in serum alanine transaminase levels, reduced albumin levels, a diminished sodium-potassium ratio, and decreased serum triglyceride levels (P < 0.05). Consistent with these data, rats exposed to CeO2 nanoparticles also exhibited reductions in liver weight (P < 0.05) and dose-dependent hydropic degeneration, hepatocyte enlargement, sinusoidal dilatation, and accumulation of granular material. No histopathological alterations were observed in the kidney, spleen, and heart. Analysis of serum biomarkers suggested an elevation of acute phase reactants and markers of hepatocyte injury in the rats exposed to CeO2 nanoparticles.Conclusion: Taken together, these data suggest that intratracheal instillation of CeO2 nanoparticles can result in liver damage.Keywords: cerium oxide nanoparticles, systemic toxicity, hepatic toxicity, hydropic degeneration

Two-dimensional (2D) ion crystals may represent a promising path to scale up qubit numbers for ion trap quantum information processing. However, to realize universal quantum computing in this system, individually addressed high-fidelity two-qubit entangling gates still remain challenging due to the inevitable micromotion of ions in a 2D crystal as well as the technical difficulty in 2D addressing. Here we demonstrate two-qubit entangling gates between any ion pairs in a 2D crystal of four ions. We use symmetrically placed crossed acousto-optic deflectors (AODs) to drive Raman transitions and achieve an addressing crosstalk error below 0.1%. We design and demonstrate a gate sequence by alternatingly addressing two target ions, making it compatible with any single-ion addressing techniques without crosstalk from multiple addressing beams. We further examine the gate performance versus the micromotion amplitude of the ions and show that its effect can be compensated by a recalibration of the laser intensity without degrading the gate fidelity. Seed priming with nanomaterials is an emerging approach for improving plant stress tolerance. Here, we demonstrated a mechanism for enhancing salt tolerance in rice under salt stress via priming with nonstimulatory nanoparticles such as selenium nanoparticles (SeNPs), distinct from stimulatory nanomaterials. Due to the dynamic transformation ability of SeNPs, SeNP priming could enhance rice salt tolerance by mediating the glutathione cycle to eliminate excess reactive oxygen species (ROS). During priming, SeNPs penetrated rice seeds and transitioned into a soluble form (99.9%) within the embryo endosperm. Subsequently, the soluble selenium (Se) was transported to rice roots and metabolized into various Se-related derivatives, including selenomethionine (SeMet), Na 2 SeO 3 (Se IV), selenocysteine (SeCys 2 ), and methylselenocysteine (MeSeCys). These derivatives significantly enhanced the root activities of key enzymes such as glutathione peroxidase (GSH-PX), glutathione reductase (GR), catalase (CAT), peroxidase (POD), and superoxide dismutase (SOD) by 24.97%, 47.98%, 16.23%, 16.81%, and 14.82%, respectively, thus reinforcing the glutathione cycle and ROS scavenging pathways. Moreover, these alterations induced transcriptional changes in rice seedlings, with genes involved in signal transduction, transcription factors (TFs), ROS scavenging, and protein folding being upregulated, activating signal perception and self-repair mechanisms. These findings offer valuable insights for the agricultural application of nanomaterials.

The challenge of understanding the interaction between trace elements and microbial life is critical for assessing environmental and ecological impacts. Nevertheless, cysteine (Cys), a low molecular weight thiol substance prevalent in the ecosystem, is able to influence the fate of certain trace elements, which increases the complexity of the interaction between trace elements and microorganisms. Therefore, we chose Cys, selenite and the model methanogenic archaeon Methanosarcina acetivorans C2A as research targets, and comprehensively explored the intricate role of Cys in modulating the biological effects of selenite on M. acetivorans C2A in terms of population growth, methane production and oxidative stress. Our results demonstrate that Cys significantly exacerbates the inhibitory effects of selenite on growth and methane production in M. acetivorans C2A. This increased toxicity is linked to heightened membrane permeability and oxidative stress, with a marked upregulation in reactive oxygen species and changes in NADPH levels. Transcriptomic analysis reveals alterations in genes associated with transmembrane transport and methanogenesis. Intriguingly, we also observed a potential interaction between selenite and phosphate transmembrane transporters, suggesting a novel pathway for selenite entry into cells. The measurement of a laser linewidth is significant in metrology, coherent optical communications, high-resolution sensing, and LIDAR. Firstly, in this study, we theoretically explain why estimating an integrated linewidth via a frequency-noise power spectral density (PSD) is valid. We find that the previous methods estimating the integrated linewidth via the frequency-noise PSD result from Gaussian approximation and obtain a more general consequence. Secondly, according to the theory, we propose the Voigt approximation method to improve the estimation performance. The simulation results show the Voigt approximation estimation error is lower than 5%. Finally, based on the Voigt approximation, the relationship between the interference visibility and laser linewidth is found, providing a possible convenient approach to measuring the linewidth.

Background and Objectives: Ubrogepant is a calcitonin gene-related peptide receptor antagonist approved for the acute treatment of migraine. The PRODROME trial previously demonstrated that ubrogepant treatment during prodrome prevents the onset of moderate or severe headache. In this analysis of the PRODROME trial, the benefits of ubrogepant treatment during the prodrome on patient-reported outcomes (PROs) are evaluated., Methods: PRODROME was a multicenter, randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled, crossover trial that enrolled adults who experienced 2-8 migraine attacks per month with moderate-severe headache pain. Eligible participants treated 2 qualifying prodrome events, defined as a migraine attack with prodromal symptoms when the participant was confident a headache would follow within 1-6 hours. Participants were randomized to treatment sequence A (placebo then ubrogepant 100 mg) or sequence B (ubrogepant 100 mg then placebo). This analysis evaluated the ability to function normally over 24 hours (secondary end point) and at specific time points after dose (additional end point). Other PRO end points included activity limitation over 24 hours and satisfaction with study medication at 8 and 24 hours., Results: Of 518 randomized participants, 477 comprised the modified intent-to-treat population. After treatment of qualifying prodrome events, a significantly greater ability to function normally over 24 hours was observed for participants after treatment with ubrogepant 100 mg compared with placebo (odds ratio [OR] 1.66, 95% CI 1.40-1.96; p < 0.0001). As early as 2 hours after dose, a greater proportion of ubrogepant-treated participants reported "no disability, able to function normally" compared with placebo (OR 1.76, 95% CI 1.32-2.35; nominal p = 0.0001). Ubrogepant administered during the prodrome was also associated with a greater reduction in activity limitations over 24 hours after dose (OR 2.07, 95% CI 1.61-2.67; nominal p < 0.0001). At 8 and 24 hours after dose, rates of being "satisfied" or "extremely satisfied" were greater for ubrogepant than for placebo (8 hours: OR 2.37, 95% CI 1.78-3.15; nominal p < 0.0001; 24 hours: OR 2.32, 95% CI 1.78-3.02; nominal p < 0.0001)., Discussion: Ubrogepant 100 mg administered during the prodrome was associated with significantly greater ability to function normally, greater reduction in activity limitations over 24 hours, and greater satisfaction with study medication, compared with placebo., Trial Registration Information: ClinicalTrials.gov NCT04492020. One of the foremost challenges in nanobiotechnology is obtaining direct evidence of nanoparticles' absorption and internalization in plants. Although confocal laser scanning microscopy (CLSM) or transmission electron microscopy (TEM) are currently the most commonly used tools to characterize nanoparticles in plants, subjectivity of researchers, incorrect sample handling, inevitable fluorescence leakage and limitations of imaging instruments lead to false positives and non-reproducibility of experimental results. This protocol provides an easy-to-operate dual-step method, combining CLSM for macroscopic tissue examination and TEM for cellular-level analysis, to effectively trace single particles in plant roots with accuracy and precision. In addition, we also provide detailed methods for processing plant materials before imaging, including cleaning, and staining, to maximize the accuracy and reliability of imaging. This protocol involves currently commonly used nanomaterial types, such as metal-based and doped carbon-based materials, and enables accurate localization of nanoparticles with different sizes at the cell level in Arabidopsis thaliana root samples either through contrast or element mapping analysis. It serves as a valuable reference and benchmark for scholars in plant science, chemistry and environmental studies to understand the interaction between plant roots and nanomaterials and to detect the distribution of nanomaterials in plants. Chronic hyperglycemia can result in damage to the hippocampus and dysfunction of the blood-brain barrier (BBB), potentially leading to neurological disorders. This study examined the histological structure of the hippocampus and the expression of critical genes associated with the BBB at 2 early stage time points in a streptozotocin-induced diabetes mellitus (DM) mouse model. Routine histology revealed vascular congestion and dilation of Virchow-Robin spaces in the hippocampal CA1 region of the DM group. Neuronal alterations included rounding and swelling and reduction in Nissl bodies and increased apoptosis. Compared to the control group, TJP1 mRNA expression in the DM group was significantly lower (P < .05 or P < .01), while mRNA levels of JAM3, TJP3, CLDN5, CLDN3, and OCLN initially increased and then decreased. At 7, 14, and 21 days, mRNA levels of the receptor for advanced glycation end products (AGER) were greater in the DM group than in the control group (P < .05 or P < .01). These findings indicate that early-stage diabetes may cause structural and functional impairments in hippocampal CA1 in mice. Alveolar and interstitial macrophages play crucial roles in eradicating pathogens and transformed cells in the lungs. The immune checkpoint CD47, found on normal and malignant cells, interacts with the SIRPα ligand on macrophages, inhibiting phagocytosis, antigen presentation, and promoting immune evasion. In this study, we demonstrated that CD47 is not only a transmembrane protein, but that it is also highly concentrated in extracellular vesicles from lung cancer cell lines and patient plasma. Abundant CD47 was observed in the cytoplasm of lung cancer cells, aligning with our finding that it was packed into extracellular vesicles for physiological and pathological functions. In our clinical cohort, extracellular vesicle CD47 was significantly higher in the patients with early-stage lung cancer, emphasizing innate immunity inactivation in early tumor progression. To validate our hypothesis, we established an orthotopic xenograft model mimicking lung cancer development, which showed increased serum soluble CD47 and elevated IL-10/TNF-α ratio, indicating an immune-suppressive tumor microenvironment. CD47 expression led to reduced tumor-infiltrating macrophages during progression, while there was a post-xenograft increase in tumor-associated macrophages. Purpose: The "one-liner," commonly used in clinical communications, summarizes a patient's identity, presenting condition, medical history, and clinical findings. Imprecise, inconsistent use of gender and sex information in one-liners threatens the provision of affirming care to transgender, nonbinary, gender-expansive, and intersex patients and may exacerbate health care disparities. This study aimed to generate guidance for communicating gender and sex information in one-liners. Methods: This is an explanatory sequential, equal status mixed methods study of transgender, nonbinary, gender-expansive, and intersex people and clinicians caring for this population. Survey participants rated one-liners on a five-point Likert-type scale of appropriateness, considering affirmation and clinical utility, and provided open-ended comments. We conducted two focus groups with survey respondents to explore survey results and performed a thematic analysis of survey comments and focus group transcripts. Results: Survey respondents included 57 clinicians and 80 nonclinicians. One-liners containing patient pronouns were rated most appropriate, and appropriate patient descriptors included self-described gender identity or gender-neutral terms. In scenarios where patient sex information was not pertinent to the chief concern (CC), one-liners containing no sex information were rated most appropriate. Four themes were identified: inclusion of sex information based on relevance to the CC, accurate patient representation, influence of clinical setting, and risk of harm from inaccurate one-liners. Conclusion: This study generated data to support the appropriate use of gender and sex language in one-liners. Clinicians, educators, and trainees may use these findings to compose one-liners that are affirming and clinically useful for patients of diverse gender and sex identities.

Histone lysine crotonylation, an evolutionarily conserved modification differing from acetylation, exerts pivotal control over diverse biological processes. Among these are gene transcriptional regulation, spermatogenesis, and cell cycle processes. However, the dynamic changes and functions of histone crotonylation in preimplantation embryonic development in mammals remain unclear. Here, we show that the transcription coactivator P300 functions as a writer of histone crotonylation during embryonic development. Depletion of P300 results in significant developmental defects and dysregulation of the transcriptome of embryos. Importantly, we demonstrate that P300 catalyzes the crotonylation of histone, directly stimulating transcription and regulating gene expression, thereby ensuring successful progression of embryo development up to the blastocyst stage. Moreover, the modification of histone H3 lysine 18 crotonylation (H3K18cr) is primarily localized to active promoter regions. This modification serves as a distinctive epigenetic indicator of crucial transcriptional regulators, facilitating the activation of gene transcription. Selaginella tamariscina is a perennial plant that is used for diverse diseases. This study investigated whether Selaginella tamariscina has an antiviral effect against influenza A virus (IAV) infection. We used green fluorescent protein (GFP)-tagged influenza A virus (IAV) to examine the effect of Selaginella tamariscina ethanol extract (STE) on influenza viral infection. Fluorescence microscopy and flow cytometry showed that STE potently represses GFP expression by the virus, dose-dependently. STE significantly inhibited the expression of the IAV M2, NP, HA, NA, NS1, and PB2 proteins. Time-of-addition and hemagglutination inhibition assays showed that STE has an inhibitory effect on hemagglutinin and viral binding on the cells at an early infection time. In addition, STE exerted a suppressive effect on the neuraminidase activity of the H1N1 and H3N2 IAVs. Furthermore, dose-dependently, STE inhibited the cytopathic effect induced by H3N2, as well as by H1N1 IAV. Especially in the presence of 200 µg/mL STE, the cytopathic effect was completely blocked. Our findings suggest that STE has antiviral efficacy against IAV infection; thus, it could be developed as a natural IAV inhibitor.

Background: Extracellular matrix (ECM) remodeling in skeletal muscle is a significant factor in the development of sarcopenia. This study aims to evaluate changes in ECM remodeling in the lumbar paravertebral muscles of sarcopenic rats using diffusion-tensor magnetic resonance imaging (DT-MRI) and compare them with histology., Methods: Twenty 6-month-old female Sprague Dawley rats were randomly divided into the dexamethasone (DEX) group and the control (CON) group. Both groups underwent 3.0T MRI scanning, including Mensa, T2WI, and DT-MRI sequences. The changes in muscle fibers and extracellular matrix (ECM) of the erector spinal muscle were observed using hematoxylineosin and sirius red staining. The expressions of collagen I, III, and fibronectin in the erector spinae were detected by western blot. Pearson correlation analysis was employed to assess the correlation between MRI quantitative parameters and corresponding histopathology markers., Results: The cross-sectional area and fractional anisotropy values of the erector spinae in the DEX group rats were significantly lower than those in the CON group (p < 0.05). Hematoxylin eosin staining revealed muscle fiber atrophy and disordered arrangement in the DEX group, while sirius red staining showed a significant increase in collagen volume fraction in the DEX group. The western blot results indicate a significant increase in the expression of collagen I, collagen III, and fibronectin in the DEX group (p < 0.001 for all). Correlation coefficients between fractional anisotropy values and collagen volume fraction, collagen I, collagen III, and fibronectin were - 0.71, -0.94, -0.85, and - 0.88, respectively (p < 0.05 for all)., Conclusions: The fractional anisotropy value is strongly correlated with the pathological collagen volume fraction, collagen I, collagen III, and fibronectin. This indicates that DT-MRI can non-invasively evaluate the changes in extracellular matrix remodeling in the erector spinal muscle of sarcopenia. Three new diterpenoid alkaloids ( 1 , 2 , 3 ) and seventeen known ( 4-20 ) compounds were isolated from the whole plant of Delphinium sherriffii Munz (Ranunculaceae). Their structures were elucidated by various spectroscopic analyses, including IR, HR-ESI-MS, 1D and 2D NMR spectra. All compounds were evaluated for the inhibitory activity of Sf9 cells and compound 5 exhibited the strongest cytotoxicity (IC 50 = 8.97 μM) against Sf9 cell line.

Background: Lumbosacral muscle strain (LMS) is common in Chinese elite trampoline athletes. Advanced lumbar muscle activation is necessary for postural control before upper extremity voluntary movements, called anticipatory postural adjustment to reduce internal postural interference (IPI). The potential of delayed lumbar muscle activation has been reported in patients with non-specific LBP (NLBP) in response to IPI. However, it remains unknown whether this effect exists in elite trampoline athletes. There is also limited literature reporting the rehabilitation of LMS in this population. This study first aimed to explore whether elite trampoline athletes with LMS experience delayed activation of lumbar muscles under IPI. The secondary aim was to preliminarily evaluate an integrative rehabilitation program's effectiveness., Materials and Methods: Ten elite trampoline athletes with LMS were recruited and received 10 sessions of integrative rehabilitation, including extracorporeal shock wave therapy, acupuncture, Tui-na, and spine function exercises. At baseline and after all sessions, the relative activation time of the lumbar muscles under IPI in a modified rapid arm-rise test was used as a primary outcome measure. The secondary measures included a visual analog scale (VAS) and a questionnaire to assess low back pain (LBP) and athletic training performance., Results: The relative activation time of the lumbar muscles under IPI was delayed at baseline, but significantly decreased after the intervention ( P  < 0.05). The VAS was significantly decreased after the intervention ( P  < 0.05). There was no significant correlation between the difference in VAS and in activation time of the lumbar muscles before and after the intervention ( P  > 0.05)., Conclusions: Elite trampoline athletes with LMS had delayed activation in their lumbar muscles under IPI. Integrative rehabilitation was effective in LBP relief and neuromuscular control of the lumbar muscles, and impacted positively on training performance. Future studies with a larger sample size, a control group, and long-term follow-ups are needed to further examine the efficacy of integrative rehabilitation in elite trampoline athletes with LMS. Objective: To investigate the risk factors of venous thrombosis in patients with polycythemia vera (PV) and establish a prediction model for venous thrombosis. Methods: PV patients with JAK2 V617F gene mutation positive in the Second Hospital of Tianjin Medical University from September 2017 to November 2023 were retrospectively included. The patients were divided into groups according to whether they had venous thrombosis. After matching age and gender factors with propensity scores, 102 patients were included in the venous thrombosis group [46 males, 56 females, with a median age M ( Q 1 , Q 3 ) of 52 (44, 60) years] and 204 cases were included in the group without venous thrombosis [92 males, 112 females, with a median age of 52 (44, 59) years]. The clinical and laboratory characteristics, disease progression and incidence of gene mutation were compared between the two groups. The follow-up cohort ended on November 20, 2023, with a median follow-up [ M ( Q 1 , Q 3 )] of 11 (1, 53) years. Multivariate Cox risk model was used to analyze the influencing factors of venous thrombosis in PV patients, and establish a scoring system for the venous thrombosis risk factor prediction model of PV patients. Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve was used to evaluate the predictive efficiency of the model. Results: Hemoglobin concentration, the ratio of hematopoietic volume≥55%, neutrophil to lymphocyte ratio≥5, hypertension, subcostal spleen≥5 cm and secondary myelofibrosis in venous thrombosis group were higher than those in non-venous thrombosis group (all P <0.05). In addition, the proportion of history of thromboembolism, V617F gene mutation load (V617F%)≥50%, diabetes mellitus, ASXL1 mutation and secondary reticular silver staining≥3 in the venous thrombosis group were higher than those in the non-venous thrombosis group (all P <0.05). The proportion of PV patients with 3 or more gene mutations was 44.1% (45/102) in venous thrombosis group, which was higher than that of PV patients without venous thrombosis 29.9% (61/204) ( P =0.014). The proportion of ASXL1 gene mutation in venous thrombosis group was 17.6% (18/102), which was higher than the 4.9% (10/204) in non-venous thrombosis group ( P <0.001). Multivariate Cox risk model analysis showed that previous thromboembolism history ( HR= 2.031, 95% CI : 1.297-3.179, P =0.002), V617F%≥50% ( HR= 2.141 , 95% CI : 1.370-3.347, P= 0.001), ASXL1 mutation ( HR =4.632, 95% CI : 1.497-14.336, P =0.008), spleen subcostal≥5 cm ( HR =1.771, 95% CI: 1.047-2.996, P =0.033) are the risk factors of venous thrombosis in PV patients. According to HR values, a score system for predicting risk of venous thrombosis in PV patients was established: previous history of thromboembolism, V617F%≥50% and spleen subcostoal≥5 cm were assigned 1 point respectively, and ASXL1 mutation was assigned 2 points. Low risk group: score 0, medium risk group: score 1-2, high risk group: score≥3. The ROC curve analysis of the model for predicting venous thrombosis in PV patients showed that the area under the curve (AUC) was 0.807 (95% CI: 0.755-0.860), with the sensitivity of 88.2% and the specificity of 59.8% when the Youden index was 0.48. Conclusions: Previous thromboembolism history, V617F%≥50%, ASXL1 mutation, spleen subcostoal≥5 cm are risk factors of venous thrombosis in PV patients. The established prediction model has good prediction efficiency.

Cotton is a globally cultivated crop, producing 87% of the natural fiber used in the global textile industry. The pigment glands, unique to cotton and its relatives, serve as a defense structure against pests and pathogens. However, the molecular mechanism underlying gland formation and the specific role of pigment glands in cotton's pest defense are still not well understood. In this study, we cloned a gland-related transcription factor GhHAM and generated the GhHAM knockout mutant using CRISPR/Cas9. Phenotypic observations, transcriptome analysis, and promoter-binding experiments revealed that GhHAM binds to the promoter of GoPGF, regulating pigment gland formation in cotton's multiple organs via the GoPGF-GhJUB1 module. The knockout of GhHAM significantly reduced gossypol production and increased cotton's susceptibility to pests in the field. Feeding assays demonstrated that more than 80% of the cotton bollworm larvae preferred ghham over the wild type. Furthermore, the ghham mutants displayed shorter cell length and decreased gibberellins (GA) production in the stem. Exogenous application of GA 3 restored stem cell elongation but not gland formation, thereby indicating that GhHAM controls gland morphogenesis independently of GA. Our study sheds light on the functional differentiation of HAM proteins among plant species, highlights the significant role of pigment glands in influencing pest feeding preference, and provides a theoretical basis for breeding pest-resistant cotton varieties to address the challenges posed by frequent outbreaks of pests., (© 2024 Society for Experimental Biology and John Wiley & Sons Ltd.)

Aims and Objectives: This study aimed to investigate the current status of the core competencies and self-directed learning ability of diabetes specialist nurses and to explore the relationship between these core competencies and their self-directed learning ability., Design: A cross-sectional survey design was used., Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted via a web-based questionnaire platform in China from January 14 to April 24, 2023. The survey included a general information questionnaire, a diabetes specialist nurses' core competencies self-assessment scale, and a nursing staff's self-directed learning ability evaluation scale. The data was collected online. Descriptive, correlation and multiple linear regression analyses were conducted using SPSS 26.0 software., Results: 118 diabetes specialist nurses from 11 cities participated in this study. A positive correlation was observed between the core competencies of diabetes specialist nurses and their self-directed learning ability. The characteristics affecting the core competencies of diabetes specialist nurses included age, participation in external learning and communication and self-directed learning., Conclusions: The training of diabetes specialist nurses can focus on core competencies, and the ability to self-direct learning can be used as an entry point to customize feasible theoretical and practical courses. The training system can further improve diabetes specialist nurses' core competencies and self-directed learning abilities., Relevance to Clinical Practice: A reference can be established that nursing managers and nursing educators can use to develop training programs for specialist nurses by validating the link between their core competencies and self-directed learning skills., Patient or Public Contribution: Participants were involved solely in the data collection process. Methanogenic archaea, characterized by their cell membrane lipid molecules consisting of isoprenoid chains linked to glycerol-1-phosphate via ether bonds, exhibit exceptional adaptability to extreme environments. However, this distinct lipid architecture also complicates the interactions between methanogenic archaea and nanoparticles. This study addresses this challenge by exploring the interaction and transformation of selenium nanoparticles (SeNPs) within archaeal Methanosarcina acetivorans C2A. We demonstrated that the effects of SeNPs are highly concentration-dependent, with chemical stimulation of cellular processes at lower SeNPs concentrations as well as oxidative stress and metabolic disruption at higher concentrations. Notably, we observed the formation of a protein corona on SeNPs, characterized by the selective adsorption of enzymes critical for methylotrophic methanogenesis and those involved in selenium methylation, suggesting potential alterations in protein function and metabolic pathways. Furthermore, the intracellular transformation of SeNPs into both inorganic and organic selenium species highlighted their bioavailability and dynamic transformation within archaea. These findings provide vital insights into the nano-bio interface in archaeal systems, contributing to our understanding of archaeal catalysis and its broader applications.

Obesity and metabolic syndrome alter serum lipid profiles. They also increase vulnerability to viral infections and worsen the survival rate and symptoms after infection. How serum lipids affect influenza virus proliferation is unclear. Here, we investigated the effects of lysophosphatidylcholines on influenza A virus (IAV) proliferation. IAV particles in the culture medium were titrated using extraction-free quantitative PCR, and viral RNA and protein levels were assessed using real-time PCR and Western blot, respectively. RNA sequencing data were analyzed using PCA and heatmap analysis, and pathway analysis was performed using the KEGG mapper and PathIN tools. Statistical analysis was conducted using SPSS21.0. LPC treatment of THP-1 cells significantly increased IAV proliferation and IAV RNA and protein levels, and saturated LPC was more active in IAV RNA expression than unsaturated LPC was. The functional analysis of genes affected by LPCs showed that the expression of genes involved in IAV signaling, such as suppressor of cytokine signaling 3 (SOCS3), phosphoinositide-3-kinase regulatory subunit 3 (PI3K) and AKT serine/threonine kinase 3 (AKT3), Toll-like receptor 7 (TKR7), and interferon gamma receptor 1 (IFNGR1), was changed by LPC. Altered influenza A pathways were linked with MAPK and PI3K/AKT signaling. Treatment with inhibitors of MAPK or PI3K attenuated viral gene expression changes induced by LPCs. The present study shows that LPCs stimulated virus reproduction by modifying the cellular environment to one in which viruses proliferated better. This was mediated by the MAPK, JNK, and PI3K/AKT pathways. Further animal studies are needed to confirm the link between LPCs from serum or the respiratory system and IAV proliferation.
