A new scheme to study the properties of finite nuclei is proposed based on the Dirac-Brueckner-Hartree-Fock (DBHF) approach starting from a bare nucleon-nucleon interaction. The relativistic structure of the nucleon self-energies in nuclear matter depending on density, momentum and isospin asymmetry are determined through a subtracted T-matrix technique and parameterized, which makes them easily accessible for general use. The scalar and vector potentials of a single particle in nuclei are generated via a local density approximation (LDA). The surface effect of finite nuclei can be taken into account by an improved LDA (ILDA), which has successfully been applied in microscopic derivations of the optical model potential for nucleon-nucleus scattering. The bulk properties of nuclei can be determined in a self-consistent scheme for nuclei all over the nuclear mass table. Calculated binding energies agree very well with the empirical data, while the predicted values for radii and spin-orbit splitting of single-particle energies are about 10 \% smaller than the experimental data. Basic features of more sophisticated DBHF calculations for finite nuclei are reproduced.

Calculations of the direct radiative capture reactions are made for the $^{48}$Ca$(n,\gamma)^{49}$Ca, $^7$Li$(n,\gamma)^8$Li and $^{12}$C$(p,\gamma)^{13}$N reactions with the Perey-Buck type nonlocal potentials using a potential model. Our results reproduce the experimental data reasonably well. From comparisons with results obtained by using local potentials, it is found that the cross sections of direct capture reactions may change by around 25\% due to the nonlcality of nuclear potentials.

We review a large body of predictions obtained within the framework of relativistic meson theory together with the Dirac-Brueckner-Hartree-Fock approach to nuclear matter and finite nuclei. The success of this method has been largely related to its ability to take into account important three-body effects. Therefore, the overarching theme of this article is the interpretation of the so-called "Dirac effects" as an effective three-nucleon force. We address the equation of state of isospin symmetric and asymmetric nucleonic matter and related issues, ranging from proton and neutron density distributions to momentum distributions and short-range correlations. A central part of the discussion is devoted to the optical model potential for nucleon-nucleus scattering. The Microscopic Otical Model Potential is evaluated within a relativistic scheme which provides a natural and consistent relation between the spin-orbit part and the central part of the potential. The Dirac-Brueckner-Hartree-Fock (DBHF) approach provides such a microscopic relativistic scheme, which is based on a realistic nucleon-nucleon interaction and reproduce the saturation properties of symmetric nuclear matter without any adjustable parameter. Its solution using the projection technique within the subtracted T-matrix (STM) representation provides a reliable extension to asymmetric nuclear matter, which is important to describe the features of the isospin asymmetric nuclei. Therefore, the present work aims to perform a global analysis of the isospin-dependent nucleon-nucleus MOP based on the DBHF calculation in symmetric and asymmetric nuclear matter. The DBHF is used to evaluate the relativistic structure of the nucleon self-energies in nuclear matter at various densities and asymmetries. The Schr\"odinger equivalent potentials of finite nuclei are derived from these Dirac components by a local density approximation (LDA). The nucleon-nucleus scattering calculations are carried out for a broad spectrum $n$ and $p$ scattering experiments below 200 MeV with targets ranging from $^{12}$C to $^{208}$Pb.

Journal of Combinatorial Theory, Series B, 98(1):173-225, 2008n exotic nuclei are studied in the framework of a fully self-consistent relativistic continuum random phase approximation (RCRPA). In this method the contribution of the continuum spectrum to nuclear excitations is treated exactly by the single particle Green's function. Different from the cases in stable nuclei, there are strong low-energy excitations in neutron-rich nuclei and proton-rich nuclei. The neutron or proton excess pushes the centroid of the strength function to lower energies and increases the fragmentation of the strength distribution. The relativistic optical model potential (OMP) for nucleon-nucleus scattering is investigated in the framework of Dirac-Brueckner-Hartree-Fock (DBHF) approach using the Bonn-B One-Boson- Exchange potential for the bare nucleon-nucleon interaction. Both real and imaginary parts of isospin-dependent nucleon self-energies in nuclear medium are derived from the DBHF approach based on the projection techniques within the subtracted T -matrix representation. The Dirac potentials as well as the corresponding Schrodinger equivalent potentials are evaluated. An improved local density approximation is employed in this analysis, where a range parameter is included to account for a finite-range correction of the nucleon-nucleon interaction. As an example the total cross sections, differential elastic scattering cross sections, analyzing powers for n, p + 27Al at incident energy 100 keV < E < 250 MeV are calculated. The results derived from this microscopic approach of the OMP are compared to the experimental data, as well as the results obtained with a phenomenological OMP. A good agreement between the theoretical results and the measurements can be achieved for all incident energies using a constant value for the range parameter., Comment: 10 pages, 16 figures

One of the open problems in nuclear structure is how to predict properties of finite nuclei from the knowledge of a bare nucleon-nucleon interaction of the meson-exchange type. We point out that a promising starting point consists in Dirac-Brueckner-Hartree-Fock (DBHF) calculations us- ing realistic nucleon-nucleon interactions like the Bonn potentials, which are able to reproduce satisfactorily the properties of symmetric nuclear matter without the need for 3-body forces, as is necessary in non-relativistic BHF calculations. However, the DBHF formalism is still too com- plicated to be used directly for finite nuclei. We argue that a possible route is to define effective Lagrangians with density-dependent nucleon-meson coupling vertices, which can be used in the Relativistic Hartree (or Relativistic Mean Field (RMF)) or preferrably in the Relativistic Hartree- Fock (RHF) approach. The density-dependence is matched to the nuclear matter DBHF results. We review the present status of nuclear matter DBHF calculations and discuss the various schemes to construct the self-energy, which lead to differences in the predictions. We also discuss how effective Lagrangians have been constructed and are used in actual calculations. A separable form of pairing interaction in the $^{1}S_{0}$ channel has been introduced and successfully applied in the description of both static and dynamic properties of superfluid nuclei. By adjusting the parameters to reproduce the pairing properties of the Gogny force in nuclear matter, this separable pairing force is successful in depicting the pairing properties of ground states and vibrational excitations of spherical nuclei on almost the same footing as the original Gogny force. In this article, we extend these investigations for Relativistic Hartree Bogoliubov theory in deformed nuclei with axial symmetry (RHBZ) using the same separable pairing interaction. In order to preserve translational invariance we construct one- and two-dimensional Talmi-Moshinsky brackets for the cylindrical harmonic oscillator basis. We show that the matrix elements of this force can then be expanded in a series of separable terms. The convergence of this expansion is investigated for various deformations. We observe a relatively fast convergence. This allows for a considerable reduction in computing time as compared to RHBZ-calculations with the full Gogny force in the pairing channel. As an example we solve the RHBZ equations with this separable pairing force for the ground states of the chain of Sm-isotopes. We have introduced a separable pairing force, which was adjusted to reproduce the pairing properties of the Gogny force in nuclear matter. This separable pairing force is able to describe in relativistic Hartree-Bogoliubov (RHB) calculations the pairing properties in the ground state of finite nuclei on almost the same footing as the original Gogny interaction. In this work we investigate excited states using the Relativistic Quasiparticle Random Phase Approximation (RQRPA) with the same separable pairing force. For consistency the Goldstone modes and the convergence with various cutoff parameters in this version of RQRPA are studied. The first excited $2^+$ states for the chain of Sn-isotopes with Z=50 and the chain of isotones with N=82 isotones are calculated in RQRPA together with the $3^-$ states of Sn-isotopes. Comparing with experimental data and with the results of original Gogny force we find that this simple separable pairing interaction is very successful in depicting the pairing properties of vibrational excitations., Comment: 7 pages, 4 figures
