Building information modelling (BIM) technology has been focusing on the creation, sharing and use of a comprehensive digital twin of the facility under construction or renovation. It is believed that a more comprehensive, structured and complete model would be better. The aim of this paper and the underlying research is to reaffirm the view that the essence of information is to inform the user and that the main purpose of information models is that they are informative – that they contain the necessary information. Parsimonious information is information that is necessary but as simple as possible. Our hypothesis is that in many cases simpler models could be more useful, as they do not introduce technological barriers with the usually involved low- and medium-level contractors. One such case is the energy retrofitting of existing buildings. Many public and residential buildings with poor energy performance are located all over the world, especially in Eastern and Central Europe, as well as in China. They are an efficient target for a significant improvement in their energy performance by improving the building envelope and openings. The paper presents an economical process model for the modernisation of existing buildings. This model provides a basis for a parsimonious product model, which is currently under development. The broader objective of the research presented is to examine cases where a heavy information model may not be necessary and where a detailed process definition – as described in the BIM implementation plan and related documents – would lead to over-specification that would limit the free dynamics of a workflow.

As Location-Based Services (LBSs) rapidly develop, indoor localization technology is garnering significant attention as a critical component. Smartphones have become tools for indoor localization due to their highly integrated sensors, fast-evolving computational capabilities, and widespread user adoption. With the rapid advancement of smartphones, methods for smartphone-based indoor localization have increasingly attracted attention. Although there are reviews on indoor localization, there is still a lack of systematic reviews focused on smartphone-based indoor localization methods. In particular, existing reviews have not systematically analyzed smartphone-based indoor localization methods or considered the combination of smartphone sensor data with prior knowledge of the indoor environment to enhance localization performance. In this study, through systematic retrieval and analysis, the existing research was first categorized into three types to dissect the strengths and weaknesses based on the types of data sources integrated, i.e., single sensor data sources, multi-sensor data fusion, and the combination of spatial context with sensor data. Then, four key issues are discussed and the research gaps in this field are summarized. Finally, a comprehensive conclusion is provided. To improve the informatization and intelligence level of high-speed railway (HSR) bridge construction, a parametric modeling method for continuous beam bridges based on Building Information Modeling (BIM) is proposed in this study. By this method, the parametric families of continuous beam components and key construction machinery are established, and the rapid modeling of overall continuous beam bridge and the simulation of critical construction process are realized as well. Taking the Caoxian-Shangqiu bridge of Xiong'an-Shangqiu HSR as a case study, the parametric modeling method is applied to conduct the engineering application on the prestressed duct layout and rebar clash detection. The results indicate that the modeling efficiencies of HSR continuous beam bridge and construction machinery are significantly increased by the established parametric modeling method. Based on the BIM model of continuous beam bridge, the improvement in the precision of prestressed duct layout and the elimination of rebar clash points can be achieved. The research achievement can guide the visualization of construction disclosure, enhance construction efficiency, and provide reference and technical support for the construction management and control of HSR continuous beam bridges. Although soil enzyme activity can act as an effective indicator of soil nutrient status, there is some uncertainty about its accuracy within soil depth across different land uses. To assess the effects of different land uses on the interactions between soil enzyme activity and nutrient status within different soil horizons, in this study we examined soil total carbon (C), nitrogen (N), and phosphorus (P) concentrations, pH, and the activities of five hydrolytic (i.e., amylase, invertase, cellulase, acid phosphatase, and urease) and three oxidative enzymes (i.e., catalase, dehydrogenase, and phenol oxidase) involved in C, N, and P acquisition and evaluated their interactions within the topsoil (0–10 cm), subsoil (10–20 cm), and deeper soil layer (20–30 cm) under various land uses (i.e., rice field, cultivated land, bamboo plantation, forest land, and barren land). We found that the levels of hydrolytic enzyme activities and nutrient concentrations were higher in the topsoil than the deeper layer. The hydrolytic enzyme activities were positive correlated with soil C, N, and P concentrations, while the activities of oxidative enzymes showed strong associations with soil pH. Furthermore, the results of fuzzy comprehensive evaluation models suggest that the overall enzyme activity can serve as an indicator of soil nutrient status in the topsoil and subsoil, but not in the deeper layer. The depth-specific nature of soil enzyme–nutrient relationships may be attributed to different land-use management practices. Our study highlights the complex interactions between soil nutrients, pH, and enzyme activities within soil profiles, and soil enzyme activity as an indicator of soil nutrient status is depth-dependent across the different land uses. The specific functional groups of enzymes and the gradients of resources and environmental conditions within the soil profile that is partly mediated by land use play crucial roles in shaping these relationships.
