7. Configurations and exergy analysis of district heating substations based mainly on renewable energy

Abstract

The energy in the district heating system is transforming into a clean, low-carbon and integrated production and consumption mode to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and dependence on fossil energy. The district heating system has developed to the fifth generation currently, and the water temperature is continuously reduced, and thus the heating efficiency is improved. The proportion of renewable energy sources such as solar, wind, and geothermal energy in substations will continue to increase. In this paper, substation configurations of the fifth-generation district heating system are firstly reviewed, and the exergy analysis is applied to the thermodynamic simulation of the district substations. Thermal simulation models of several types of substations mainly based on solar water heating, water source- and air source- heat pumps or combined forms are developed, the conventional heat exchanger substation is also modeled to compare their performance. The optimization algorithm in Matlab/Simulink is used to solve the thermodynamic numerical model, and performance indicators such as exergy and efficiency are selected to evaluate the performance of these systems.

Abstract

Analysis of oxide traps near and above the Si conduction band of energy using both 1/f noise and random telegraph signal (RTS) data helps examine N2O nitridation-induced modification interface traps. At higher energy levels, thermal nitridation lowers the near-interface oxide trap density, leading to deceased trapping of mobile electrons. RTS data suggest that thermal nitridation inhibits the Coulombic scattering of mobile electrons by moving the oxide traps away from the Si/SiO2 interface. The interfacial modifications induced by nitridation results in higher high-field mobility in nitrided-oxide devices.

Abstract

The off-state instabilities of n-channel metal oxide semiconductor field effect transistors that have undergone thermal nitridation are studied. The latter prompts a barrier height decrease at the Si/SiO2 interface that leads to gate oxide hot-hole injection under conditions of band-to-band tunneling. This yields a higher off-state gatecurrent and a reduction in the gate-induced drain leakage current.

Abstract

Theoretical investigations on ferroelectric tunnel junctions (FTJs) with asymmetric electrodes and a composite barrier are presented. A large tunneling electroresistance effect exists for the Pt/SrTiO3/BaTiO3/SrRuO3 junction; on the other hand, exchange of the dielectric and ferroelectric layer stacking sequence can seriously degrade the performance. These correlations are rationalized by the proposed concept of an asymmetry factor, defined as the ratio between the average barrier heights of FTJs for two opposite polarization orientations. We show that a large asymmetry factor is beneficial to FTJs. This work may provide a way to enhance the performance of FTJs by structure engineering. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

40. Three-Phase Fuel Deposition in a Long-Distance Migrant, the Red Knot(Calidris canutus piersmai), before the Flight to High Arctic Breeding Grounds

Abstract

Refuelling by migratory birds before take-off on long flights is generally considered a two-phase process, with protein accumulation preceding rapid fat deposition. The first phase expresses the demands for a large digestive system for nutrient storage after shrinkage during previous flights, the second phase the demands for fat stores to fuel the subsequent flight. At the last staging site in northward migration, this process may include expression of selection pressures both en route to and after arrival at the breeding grounds, which remains unascertained. Here we investigated changes in body composition during refuelling of High Arctic breeding red knots (Calidris canutus piersmai) in the northern Yellow Sea, before their flight to the tundra. These red knots followed a three-phase fuel deposition pattern, with protein being stored in the first and last phases, and fat being deposited mainly in the second phase. Thus, they did not shrink nutritional organs before take-off, and even showed hypertrophy of the nutritional organs. These suggest the build up of strategic protein stores before departure to cope with a protein shortage upon arrival on the breeding grounds. Further comparative studies are warranted to examine the degree to which the deposition of stores by migrant birds generally reflects a balance between concurrent and upcoming environmental selection pressures.

42. Serological investigation of Mycoplasma synoviaeinfection in China from 2010 to 2015

Abstract

Mycoplasma synoviaecan cause worldwide respiratory diseases, synovitis, or subclinical symptoms in poultry. M. synoviaeinfection occurs throughout the yr and causes significant economic losses, including increased mortality, condemnations, medication, and live production cost. In the present study, the seroprevalence of M. synoviaeamong 44,395 non-vaccinated chickens from 21 provinces in China from 2010 to 2015 was estimated using ELISA. The overall seroprevalence was 41.19%. Seropositive rates in different yr ranged between 24.70 and 57.20%; the highest seropositive rate was observed in 2010, and the lowest was observed in 2013. The prevalence rates varied greatly in different provinces from 5.10 to 100%. Of the 463 commercial flocks tested, 375 (80.99%) were positive for M. synoviaeby ELISA. The seasonal distribution ranged between 26.83% (in October) and 53.98% (in July). An investigation of chickens according to age further showed that M. synoviaecan infect chickens at any age. Our findings indicate that M. synoviaeinfection is very common in China and should prompt further research into its prevalence to develop effective control and prevention strategies.

Abstract

Previous conflicting reports concerning fully depleted SOI device hot electron reliability may result from overestimation of channel electric field (Em). Experimental results using SOI MOSFET's with body contacts indicate that Em is just a weak function of thin-film SOI thickness (Tsi) and that Em can be significantly lower than in a bulk device with drain junction depth (Xj) comparable to SOI's Tsi. The theoretical correlation between SOI MOSFET's gate current and substrate current are experimentally confirmed. This provides a means (IG) of studying Em in SOI device without body contacts. Thin-film SOI MOSFET's have better prospects for meeting breakdown voltage and hot-electron reliability requirements than previously thought.
