Topological singularities, such as Weyl points and Dirac points, can give rise to unidirectional propagation channels known as chiral zero modes (CZMs) when subject to a magnetic field. These CZMs are responsible for intriguing phenomena like the chiral anomaly in quantum systems. The propagation direction of each CZM is determined by both the applied magnetic field and the topological charge of the singularity point. While counter-propagating CZMs have been observed in 2D and 3D systems, the realization of co-propagating CZMs has remained elusive. Here we present the first experimental observation of co-propagating CZMs in magnetic photonic crystals hosting a single pair of ideal Weyl points WPs. By manipulating the crystal's structural configuration, we spatially alter the locations of the WPs, creating pseudo-magnetic fields in opposite directions between them. This arrangement results in a pair of CZMs that possess the same group velocity and co-propagate. 3D reconstruction and simulation, while interrelated, have distinct objectives: reconstruction demands a flexible 3D representation adaptable to diverse scenes, whereas simulation requires a structured representation to model motion principles effectively. This paper introduces the Mesh-adsorbed Gaussian Splatting (MaGS) method to resolve such a dilemma. MaGS constrains 3D Gaussians to hover on the mesh surface, creating a mutual-adsorbed mesh-Gaussian 3D representation that combines the rendering flexibility of 3D Gaussians with the spatial coherence of meshes. Leveraging this representation, we introduce a learnable Relative Deformation Field (RDF) to model the relative displacement between the mesh and 3D Gaussians, extending traditional mesh-driven deformation paradigms that only rely on ARAP prior, thus capturing the motion of each 3D Gaussian more precisely. By joint optimizing meshes, 3D Gaussians, and RDF, MaGS achieves both high rendering accuracy and realistic deformation. Owing to the chirality of Weyl nodes characterized by the first Chern number, a Weyl system supports one-way chiral zero modes under a magnetic field, which underlies the celebrated chiral anomaly. As a generalization of Weyl nodes from three-dimensional to five-dimensional physical systems, Yang monopoles are topological singularities carrying nonzero second-order Chern numbers c2 = +1 or -1. Here, we couple a Yang monopole with an external gauge field using an inhomogeneous Yang monopole metamaterial, and experimentally demonstrate the existence of a gapless chiral zero mode, where the judiciously designed metallic helical structures and the corresponding effective antisymmetric bianisotropic terms provide the means for controlling gauge fields in a synthetic five-dimensional space. This zeroth mode is found to originate from the coupling between the second Chern singularity and a generalized 4-form gauge field - the wedge product of the magnetic field with itself. This generalization reveals intrinsic connections between physical systems of different dimensions, while a higher dimensional system exhibits much richer supersymmetric structures in Landau level degeneracy due to the internal degrees of freedom. Topological photonic insulators show promise for applications in compact integrated photonic circuits due to their ability to transport light robustly through sharp bendings. The number of topological edge states relies on the difference between the bulk Chern numbers across the boundary, as dictated by the bulk edge correspondence. The interference among multiple topological edge modes in topological photonics systems may allow for controllable functionalities that are particularly desirable for constructing reconfigurable photonic devices. In this work, we demonstrate magnetically controllable multimode interference based on gyromagnetic topological photonic insulators that support two unidirectional edge modes with different dispersions. We successfully achieve controllable power splitting in experiments by engineering multimode interference with the magnetic field intensity or the frequency of wave. Our work demonstrates that manipulating the interference among multiple chiral edge modes can facilitate the advancement of highly efficient and adaptable photonic devices., Comment: 18 pages, 5 figures

Superlenses made of plasmonic materials and metamaterials have been exploited to image features of sub-diffractional scale. However, their intrinsic losses impose a serious restriction on the imaging resolution, which is a long-standing problem that has hindered wide-spread applications of superlenses. Optical waves of complex frequency exhibiting a temporally attenuating behavior have been proposed to offset the intrinsic losses in superlenses via virtual gain, but the experimental realization has been missing due to the challenge involved in preparing the illumination with temporal decay. Here, by employing multi-frequency measurement, we successfully implement a synthetic optical wave of complex frequency to experimentally observe deep-subwavelength superimaging patterns enabled by the virtual gain. Chiral zeroth Landau levels are topologically protected bulk states that give rise to chiral anomaly. Previous discussions on such chiral Landau levels are based on three-dimensional Weyl degeneracies. Their realizations using two-dimensional Dirac point systems, being more promising for future applications, were never reported before. Here we propose a theoretical and experimental scheme for realizing chiral Landau levels in a photonic system. By introducing an inhomogeneous effective mass through breaking local parity inversion symmetries, the zeroth-order chiral Landau levels with one-way propagation characteristics are experimentally observed. In addition, the robust transport of the chiral zeroth mode against defects in the system is experimentally tested. Our system provides a new pathway for the realization of chiral Landau levels in two-dimensional Dirac systems, and may potentially be applied in device designs utilizing the transport robustness.

Intelligent vehicles in autonomous driving and obstacle avoidance, the precise relative state of vehicles put forward a higher demand. For a vehicle-borne sensor network with time-varying transmission delays, the problem of coordinate fusion of vehicle state is the focus of this paper. By the ingeniously designed low-complexity integration with a consensus strategy and buffer technology, an anti-delay distributed Kalman filter (DKF) with finite-time convergence is proposed.By introducing the matrix weight to assess local estimates, the optimal fusion state result is available in the sense of linear minimum variance. In addition, to accommodate practical engineering in intelligent vehicles, the communication weight coefficient and directed topology with unidirectional transmission are also considered. From a theoretical perspective, the proof of error covariances upper bounds with different communication topologies with delays are presented. Furthermore, the maximum allowable delays of vehicle-borne sensor network is derived backwards. Simulations verify that while considering various non-ideal factors above, the proposed DFK algorithm produces more accurate and robust fusion estimation state results than existing algorithms, making it more valuable in practical applications. Simultaneously, a mobile car trajectory tracking experiment is carried out, which further verifies the feasibility of the proposed algorithm.

Seeking the criterion for diagnosing topological phases in real materials has been one of the major tasks in topological physics. Currently, bulk-boundary correspondence based on spectral measurements of in gap topological boundary states and the fractional corner anomaly derived from the measurement of the fractional spectral charge are two main approaches to characterize topologically insulating phases. However, these two methods require a complete band-gap with either in-gap states or strict spatial symmetry of the overall sample which significantly limits their applications to more generalized cases. Here we propose and demonstrate an approach to link the non-trivial hierarchical bulk topology to the multidimensional partition of local-density of states (LDOS) respectively, denoted as the bulk-LDOS correspondence. Specifically, in a finite-size topologically nontrivial photonic crystal, we observe that the distribution of LDOS is divided into three partitioned regions of the sample - the two-dimensional interior bulk area (avoiding edge and corner areas), one-dimensional edge region (avoiding the corner area), and zero-dimensional corner sites. In contrast, the LDOS is distributed across the entire two-dimensional bulk area across the whole spectrum for the topologically trivial cases. Moreover, we present the universality of this criterion by validating this correspondence in both a higher-order topological insulator without a complete band gap and with disorders. Our findings provide a general way to distinguish topological insulators and unveil the unexplored features of topological directional band-gap materials without in-gap states.

There have been considerable efforts devoted to the study of topological phases in certain non-Hermitian systems that possess real eigenfrequencies in the presence of gain and loss. However, it is challenging to experimentally realize such non-Hermitian topological insulators in either quantum or photonic systems, due to the difficulties in introducing controlled gain and loss. On the other hand, the wide choices of active circuit components provide us with unprecedented convenience and flexibility in engineering non-Hermitian topological insulators in electrical circuits. Here, we report experimental realization of a one-dimensional (1D) non-Hermitian topological circuit which exhibits topologically protected edge state purely induced by gain and loss. We show that by tuning the value of the positive/negative resistors in the circuit, our system can switch between different topological phase regions. The topological edge states and interface states are observed at the circuit edge and at the interface between a trivial and nontrivial circuit, which are manifested by a prominent impedance peak at the mid-gap frequency topologically robust to variations of circuit parameters. Our work opens a new gateway towards actively controllable topological systems.

Twisted bilayer systems with discrete magic angles, such as twisted bilayer graphene featuring moir\'{e} superlattices, provide a versatile platform for exploring novel physical properties. Here, we discover a class of superflat bands in general twisted bilayer systems beyond the low-energy physics of magic-angle twisted counterparts. By considering continuous lattice dislocation, we obtain intrinsic localized states, which are spectrally isolated at lowest and highest energies and spatially centered around the AA stacked region, governed by the macroscopic effective energy potential well. Such localized states exhibit negligible inter-cell coupling and support the formation of superflat bands in a wide and continuous parameter space, which can be mimicked using a twisted bilayer nanophotonic system. Our finding suggests that general twisted bilayer systems can realize continuously tunable superflat bands and the corresponding localized states for various photonic, phononic and mechanical waves., Comment: 7 pages, 6 figures

To enable multiple missiles to attack a maneuvering target simultaneously, fixed-time distributed cooperative guidance laws are proposed in this paper. Here, we present a novel fixed-time fast nonsingular terminal sliding mode surface (FNTSMS). In particular, the sliding mode surface not only avoids singularities but also has the characteristic of a settling time boundary regardless of the initial conditions. Based on the FNTSMS, we have developed a distributed guidance law, which has the characteristic of fixed-time convergence. The guidance law achieves the consensus of range-to-go, relative velocity along and perpendicular to the line of sight (LOS) direction to realize the simultaneous attack. In addition, a saturation function is introduced to avoid the chattering problem caused by the commonly used sign function. Furthermore, the distributed cooperative guidance law with communication failure is considered and proved theoretically, which shows that the proposed guidance law has excellent performance. Finally, the simulation results verify the performance of the distributed guidance law and its robustness against communication topology mutations, and explain the phenomenon in detail.

In crystals, two bands may cross each other and form degeneracies along a closed loop in the three-dimensional momentum space, which is called nodal line. Nodal line degeneracy can be designed to exhibit various configurations such as nodal rings, chains, links and knots. Very recently, non-Abelian band topology was proposed in nodal link systems, where the nodal lines formed by consecutive pairs of bands exhibit interesting braiding structures and the underlying topological charges are described by quaternions. Here, we experimentally demonstrate non-Abelian nodal links in a biaxial hyperbolic metamaterial. The linked nodal lines threading through each other are formed by the crossings between three adjacent bands. Based on the non-Abelian charges, we further analyze various admissible nodal link configurations for the three-band system. On the interface between the metamaterial and air, surface bound states in the continuum (BICs) are observed, which serves as the symmetry-enforced derivative of drumhead surface states from the linked nodal lines. Real photon pairs can be created in a dynamic cavity with periodically modulated refractive index of the constituent media or oscillating boundaries. This effect is called Dynamic Casimir effect (DCE), which represents one of the most amazing predictions of quantum field theory. Here, we investigate DCE in a dynamic one-dimensional photonic crystal system with both temporal and spatial modulation of the refractive index profile. Such a system can resonantly generate photons at driving frequencies equal to even or odd integer times of that of the fundamental cavity mode governed by the symmetry of the spatial modulation. We further observe interesting spectral and scaling behaviors for photons excited at the band edge. Metasurfaces in metal/insulator/metal configuration have recently been widely used in photonics research, with applications ranging from perfect absorption to phase modulation, but why and when such structures can realize what kind of functionalities are not yet fully understood. Here, based on a coupled-mode theory analysis, we establish a complete phase diagram in which the optical properties of such systems are fully controlled by two simple parameters (i.e., the intrinsic and radiation losses), which are in turn dictated by the geometrical/material parameters of the underlying structures. Such a phase diagram can greatly facilitate the design of appropriate metasurfaces with tailored functionalities (e.g., perfect absorption, phase modulator, electric/magnetic reflector, etc.), demonstrated by our experiments and simulations in the Terahertz regime. In particular, our experiments show that, through appropriate structural/material tuning, the device can be switched across the functionality phase boundaries yielding dramatic changes in optical responses. Our discoveries lay a solid basis for realizing functional and tunable photonic devices with such structures.
