Abstract

This paper describes a recognition system for online handwritten Tibetan characters using advanced techniques in character recognition. To eliminate noise points of handwriting trajectories, we introduce a de-noising approach by using dilation, erosion, thinning operators of mathematical morphology. Selecting appropriate structuring elements, we can clear up large amounts of noises in the glyphs of the character. To enhance the recognition performance, we adopt a three-stage classification strategy, where the top rank output classes by the baseline classifier are re-classified by similarcharacter discrimination classifier. Experiments have been carried out on two databases MRG-OHTC and IIP-OHTC. Test results show the used recognition algorithm is effective and can be applied to pen-based mobile devices.

28. Chain-like ZSM-5 zeolite coupled with Cu-Fe3O4for CO2hydrogenation to light aromatics

Abstract

The capture and utilization of carbon dioxide (CO2) have attracted much attention in recent years; in particular, the direct hydrogenation of CO2to light aromatics has been considered as a potential route to produce high value-added chemicals. However, it is still a big challenge to adjust the aromatic distribution and achieve a high selectivity to the targeted products. In this work, a bifunctional catalyst that combines the Cu-modified Fe3O4and the chain-like ZSM-5 zeolite is used for the hydrogenation of CO2to light aromatics. The catalyst components were characterized by XRD, SEM, TEM, ICP-AES, Py-IR and N2adsorption-desorption; the effect of acid density and length-to-diameter ratio (b-axis/a-axis) of zeolite moiety on the selectivity and distribution of aromatic products was then investigated. The results indicate that the chain-like ZSM-5 zeolite moiety with high acid density and appropriate length-to-diameter ratio can promote the C–C coupling for CO2hydrogenation and inhibit the formation of CH4, which can improve the selectivity to aromatics and the space time yield (STY) of toluene.

Abstract

MgO/NaY catalyst was prepared by a simple and green procedure and used in the aldol condensation of furfural and acetone to produce jet fuel intermediates in a water-ethanol solvent; the effects of MgO loading, feedstock composition, reaction temperature and time on the product distribution were investigated. The results indicated that the 20% MgO/NaY catalyst performs best in the aldol reaction; the conversion of furfural reaches 99.6% after reaction at 85°C for 8 h, while the selectivities to furfural-acetone (FA) and di-furfural-acetone (F 2 A) are 42.2% and 57.1%, respectively, with a yield of condensation products of 98.6%. High temperature may enhance the degradation of F 3 A 2 intermediate and therefore improves the selectivity to aldol products. The product distribution can be adjusted by changing the feedstock composition; the selectivity to F 2 A increases with the increase of the ratio of furfural to acetone, at the expense of a slight decrease of the reaction rate. The spent catalyst shows a good regeneration capability; its catalytic activity is well recovered after calcination treatment.

30. Decomposition Characteristics of Ethane Hydrate and Propane Hydrate by Microwave Heating

Abstract

The decomposition of type I ethane hydrate and type II propane hydrate stimulated by 2.45 GHz microwave (MW) were experimentally investigated. The decomposition characteristics of the hydrates under MW heating were analyzed based on the two. step dissociation mechanism accompanied by heat and mass transfer at the crystal surface. Results show that the decomposition behavior of the gas hydrate during MW heating is coupled with the real. time electromagnetic field. Volumetric heating enhances the heat and mass transfer process at the surface layer of the hydrate particles. The time. accumulated thermal effect of MWheating promotes the destruction of the clathrate host lattice. The average decomposition rates of ethane hydrate and propane hydrate obtained in this work range from 0.109 to 0.400 mol . min(-1) . L-1 and from 0.090 to 0.222 mol . min(-1) . L-1, respectively, under incident MW power that ranges from 120 to 540 W. We conclude that the average decomposition rates of ethane hydrate and propane hydrate are faster as the MW power increases within a certain range. The decomposition rates of ethane hydrate are mainly controlled by the MW power. In contrast, the decomposition rates of propane hydrate are controlled by both the MW power and the kinetic mechanismunder relatively higher power.
