Abstract: The Water Cherenkov Detector Array (WCDA) is one of the components of Large High Altitude Air Shower Observatory (LHAASO) and can monitor any sources over two-thirds of the sky for up to 7 hours per day with >98\% duty cycle. In this work, we report the detection of two outbursts of the Fanaroff-Riley I radio galaxy NGC 1275 that were detected by LHAASO-WCDA between November 2022 and January 2023 with statistical significance of 5.2~$\sigma$ and 8.3~$\sigma$. The observed spectral energy distribution in the range from 500 GeV to 3 TeV is fitted by a power-law with a best-fit spectral index of $\alpha=-3.37\pm0.52$ and $-3.35\pm0.29$, respectively. The outburst flux above 0.5~TeV was ($4.55\pm 4.21)\times~10^{-11}~\rm cm^{-2}~s^{-1}$ and ($3.45\pm 1.78)\times~10^{-11}~\rm cm^{-2}~s^{-1}$, corresponding to 60\%, 45\% of Crab Nebula flux. Variation analysis reveals the variability time-scale of days at the TeV energy band. A simple test by one-zone synchrotron self-Compton model reproduces the data in the gamma-ray band well., Comment: 11 pages, 8 figures, 3 tables

Abstract: We report the detection of an extended very-high-energy (VHE) gamma-ray source coincident with the locations of middle-aged (62.4~\rm kyr) pulsar PSR J0248+6021, by using the LHAASO-WCDA data of live 796 days and LHAASO-KM2A data of live 1216 days. A significant excess of \gray induced showers is observed both by WCDA in energy bands of 1-25~\rm TeV and KM2A in energy bands of $>$ 25~\rm TeV with 7.3 $\sigma$ and 13.5 $\sigma$, respectively. The best-fit position derived through WCDA data is R.A. = 42.06$^\circ \pm$ 0.12$^\circ$ and Dec. = 60.24$^\circ \pm $ 0.13$^\circ$ with an extension of 0.69$^\circ\pm$0.15$^\circ$ and that of the KM2A data is R.A.= 42.29$^\circ \pm $ 0.13$^\circ$ and Dec. = 60.38$^\circ \pm$ 0.07$^\circ$ with an extension of 0.37$^\circ\pm$0.07$^\circ$. No clear extended multiwavelength counterpart of this LHAASO source has been found from the radio band to the GeV band. The most plausible explanation of the VHE \gray emission is the inverse Compton process of highly relativistic electrons and positrons injected by the pulsar. These electrons/positrons are hypothesized to be either confined within the pulsar wind nebula or to have already escaped into the interstellar medium, forming a pulsar halo., Comment: 12 pages, 10 figures, Accepted by Sci. Abstract: In this work we try to search for signals generated by ultra-heavy dark matter at the Large High Altitude Air Shower Observatory (LHAASO) data. We look for possible gamma-ray by dark matter annihilation or decay from 16 dwarf spheroidal galaxies in the field of view of LHAASO. Dwarf spheroidal galaxies are among the most promising targets for indirect detection of dark matter which have low fluxes of astrophysical $\gamma$-ray background while large amount of dark matter. By analyzing more than 700 days observational data at LHAASO, no significant dark matter signal from 1 TeV to 1 EeV is detected. Accordingly we derive the most stringent constraints on the ultra-heavy dark matter annihilation cross-section up to EeV. With over 3.6 million signal candidates, an optimized candidate selection, improved treatment of backgrounds and efficiencies, refined energy calibration, and an energy response model for the capture-on-hydrogen sensitive region, the relative $\overline{\nu}_{e}$ rates and energy spectra variation among the near and far detectors gives $\mathrm{sin}^22\theta_{13} = 0.0759_{-0.0049}^{+0.0050}$ and $\Delta m^2_{32} = (2.72^{+0.14}_{-0.15})\times10^{-3}$ eV$^2$ assuming the normal neutrino mass ordering, and $\Delta m^2_{32} = (-2.83^{+0.15}_{-0.14})\times10^{-3}$ eV$^2$ for the inverted neutrino mass ordering. This estimate of $\sin^2 2\theta_{13}$ is consistent with and essentially independent from the one obtained using the capture-on-gadolinium sample at Daya Bay. The combination of these two results yields $\mathrm{sin}^22\theta_{13}= 0.0833\pm0.0022$, which represents an 8% relative improvement in precision regarding the Daya Bay full 3158-day capture-on-gadolinium result.

Abstract: The KM2A is the largest sub-array of the Large High Altitude Air Shower Observatory (LHAASO). It consists of 5216 electromagnetic particle detectors (EDs) and 1188 muon detectors (MDs). The data recorded by the EDs and MDs are used to reconstruct primary information of cosmic ray and gamma-ray showers. This information is used for physical analysis in gamma-ray astronomy and cosmic ray physics. To ensure the reliability of the LHAASO-KM2A data, a three-level quality control system has been established. It is used to monitor the status of detector units, stability of reconstructed parameters and the performance of the array based on observations of the Crab Nebula and Moon shadow. This paper will introduce the control system and its application on the LHAASO-KM2A data collected from August 2021 to July 2023. During this period, the pointing and angular resolution of the array were stable. From the observations of the Moon shadow and Crab Nebula, the results achieved using the two methods are consistent with each other. According to the observation of the Crab Nebula at energies from 25 TeV to 100 TeV, the time averaged pointing errors are estimated to be $-0.003^{\circ} \pm 0.005^{\circ}$ and $0.001^{\circ} \pm 0.006^{\circ}$ in the R.A. and Dec directions, respectively., Comment: 15 pages, 9 figures

Abstract: The first source catalog of Large High Altitude Air Shower Observatory reported the detection of a very-high-energy gamma ray source, 1LHAASO J1219+2915. In this paper a further detailed study of the spectral and temporal behavior of this point-like source have been carried. The best-fit position of the TeV source ($\rm{RA}=185.05^{\circ}\pm0.04^{\circ}$, $\rm{Dec}=29.25^{\circ}\pm0.03^{\circ}$) is compatible with NGC 4278 within $\sim0.03$ degree. Variation analysis shows an indication of the variability at a few months level in the TeV band, which is consistent with low frequency observations. Based on these observations, we report the detection of TeV $\gamma$-ray emissions from this low-luminosity AGN NGC 4278. The observations by LHAASO-WCDA during active period has a significance level of 8.8\,$\sigma$ with best-fit photon spectral index $\varGamma=2.56\pm0.14$ and a flux $f_{1-10\,\rm{TeV}}=(7.0\pm1.1_{\rm{sta}}\pm0.35_{\rm{syst}})\times10^{-13}\,\rm{photons\,cm^{-2}\,s^{-1}}$, or approximately $5\%$ of the Crab Nebula. The discovery of VHE from NGC 4278 indicates that the compact, weak radio jet can efficiently accelerate particles and emit TeV photons., Comment: 11 pages, 5 figures

Abstract: KM2A is one of the main sub-arrays of LHAASO, working on gamma ray astronomy and cosmic ray physics at energies above 10 TeV. Detector simulation is the important foundation for estimating detector performance and data analysis. It is a big challenge to simulate the KM2A detector in the framework of Geant4 due to the need to track numerous photons from a large number of detector units (>6000) with large altitude difference (30 m) and huge coverage (1.3 km^2). In this paper, the design of the KM2A simulation code G4KM2A based on Geant4 is introduced. The process of G4KM2A is optimized mainly in memory consumption to avoid memory overffow. Some simpliffcations are used to signiffcantly speed up the execution of G4KM2A. The running time is reduced by at least 30 times compared to full detector simulation. The particle distributions and the core/angle resolution comparison between simulation and experimental data of the full KM2A array are also presented, which show good agreement.

Abstract: This Letter presents results of a search for the mixing of a sub-eV sterile neutrino with three active neutrinos based on the full data sample of the Daya Bay Reactor Neutrino Experiment, collected during 3158 days of detector operation, which contains $5.55 \times 10^{6}$ reactor \anue candidates identified as inverse beta-decay interactions followed by neutron-capture on gadolinium. The analysis benefits from a doubling of the statistics of our previous result and from improvements of several important systematic uncertainties. No significant oscillation due to mixing of a sub-eV sterile neutrino with active neutrinos was found. Exclusion limits are set by both Feldman-Cousins and CLs methods. Light sterile neutrino mixing with $\sin^2 2\theta_{14} \gtrsim 0.01$ can be excluded at 95\% confidence level in the region of $0.01$ eV$^2 \lesssim |\Delta m^{2}_{41}| \lesssim 0.1 $ eV$^2$. Abstract: We present the measurements of all-particle energy spectrum and mean logarithmic mass of cosmic rays in the energy range of 0.3-30 PeV using data collected from LHAASO-KM2A between September 2021 and December 2022, which is based on a nearly composition-independent energy reconstruction method, achieving unprecedented accuracy. Our analysis reveals the position of the knee at $3.67 \pm 0.05 \pm 0.15$ PeV. Below the knee, the spectral index is found to be -$2.7413 \pm 0.0004 \pm 0.0050$, while above the knee, it is -$3.128 \pm 0.005 \pm 0.027$, with the sharpness of the transition measured with a statistical error of 2%. The mean logarithmic mass of cosmic rays is almost heavier than helium in the whole measured energy range. It decreases from 1.7 at 0.3 PeV to 1.3 at 3 PeV, representing a 24% decline following a power law with an index of -$0.1200 \pm 0.0003 \pm 0.0341$. This is equivalent to an increase in abundance of light components. Above the knee, the mean logarithmic mass exhibits a power law trend towards heavier components, which is reversal to the behavior observed in the all-particle energy spectrum. Additionally, the knee position and the change in power-law index are approximately the same. These findings suggest that the knee observed in the all-particle spectrum corresponds to the knee of the light component, rather than the medium-heavy components., Comment: 8 pages, 3 figures

Abstract: Daya Bay presents the first measurement of cosmogenic $^8$He isotope production in liquid scintillator, using an innovative method for identifying cascade decays of $^8$He and its child isotope, $^8$Li. We also measure the production yield of $^9$Li isotopes using well-established methodology. The results, in units of 10$^{-8}\mu^{-1}$g$^{-1}$cm$^{2}$, are 0.307$\pm$0.042, 0.341$\pm$0.040, and 0.546$\pm$0.076 for $^8$He, and 6.73$\pm$0.73, 6.75$\pm$0.70, and 13.74$\pm$0.82 for $^9$Li at average muon energies of 63.9~GeV, 64.7~GeV, and 143.0~GeV, respectively. The measured production rate of $^8$He isotopes is more than an order of magnitude lower than any other measurement of cosmogenic isotope production. It replaces the results of previous attempts to determine the ratio of $^8$He to $^9$Li production that yielded a wide range of limits from 0 to 30\%. The results provide future liquid-scintillator-based experiments with improved ability to predict cosmogenic backgrounds.

Abstract: The full data set of the Daya Bay reactor neutrino experiment is used to probe the effect of the charged current non-standard interactions (CC-NSI) on neutrino oscillation experiments. Two different approaches are applied and constraints on the corresponding CC-NSI parameters are obtained with the neutrino flux taken from the Huber-Mueller model with a $5\%$ uncertainty. For the quantum mechanics-based approach (QM-NSI), the constraints on the CC-NSI parameters $\epsilon_{e\alpha}$ and $\epsilon_{e\alpha}^{s}$ are extracted with and without the assumption that the effects of the new physics are the same in the production and detection processes, respectively. The approach based on the weak effective field theory (WEFT-NSI) deals with four types of CC-NSI represented by the parameters $[\varepsilon_{X}]_{e\alpha}$. For both approaches, the results for the CC-NSI parameters are shown for cases with various fixed values of the CC-NSI and the Dirac CP-violating phases, and when they are allowed to vary freely. We find that constraints on the QM-NSI parameters $\epsilon_{e\alpha}$ and $\epsilon_{e\alpha}^{s}$ from the Daya Bay experiment alone can reach the order $\mathcal{O}(0.01)$ for the former and $\mathcal{O}(0.1)$ for the latter, while for WEFT-NSI parameters $[\varepsilon_{X}]_{e\alpha}$, we obtain $\mathcal{O}(0.1)$ for both cases., Comment: 25 pages, 16 figures, 6 tables; 36 pages, format changed, references added

Abstract: The unification of quantum mechanics and general relativity has long been elusive. Only recently have empirical predictions of various possible theories of quantum gravity been put to test. The dawn of multi-messenger high-energy astrophysics has been tremendously beneficial, as it allows us to study particles with much higher energies and travelling much longer distances than possible in terrestrial experiments, but more progress is needed on several fronts. A thorough appraisal of current strategies and experimental frameworks, regarding quantum gravity phenomenology, is provided here. Our aim is twofold: a description of tentative multimessenger explorations, plus a focus on future detection experiments. Abstract: For decades, supernova remnants (SNRs) have been considered the prime sources of Galactic Cosmic rays (CRs). But whether SNRs can accelerate CR protons to PeV energies and thus dominate CR flux up to the knee is currently under intensive theoretical and phenomenological debate. The direct test of the ability of SNRs to operate as CR PeVatrons can be provided by ultrahigh-energy (UHE; $E_\gamma \geq 100$~TeV) $\gamma$-rays. In this context, the historical SNR Cassiopeia A (Cas A) is considered one of the most promising target for UHE observations. This paper presents the observation of Cas A and its vicinity by the LHAASO KM2A detector. The exceptional sensitivity of LHAASO KM2A in the UHE band, combined with the young age of Cas A, enabled us to derive stringent model-independent limits on the energy budget of UHE protons and nuclei accelerated by Cas A at any epoch after the explosion. Abstract: The highest energy gamma-rays from gamma-ray bursts (GRBs) have important implications for their radiation mechanism. Here we report for the first time the detection of gamma-rays up to 13 TeV from the brightest GRB 221009A by the Large High Altitude Air-shower Observatory (LHAASO). The LHAASO-KM2A detector registered more than 140 gamma-rays with energies above 3 TeV during 230$-$900s after the trigger. The intrinsic energy spectrum of gamma-rays can be described by a power-law after correcting for extragalactic background light (EBL) absorption. Such a hard spectrum challenges the synchrotron self-Compton (SSC) scenario of relativistic electrons for the afterglow emission above several TeV. Observations of gamma-rays up to 13 TeV from a source with a measured redshift of z=0.151 hints more transparency in intergalactic space than previously expected. Alternatively, one may invoke new physics such as Lorentz Invariance Violation (LIV) or an axion origin of very high energy (VHE) signals., Comment: 49pages, 11figures

The study aimed to explore whether acupuncture could improve ocular pain, mental state, and dry eye parameters in patients with DED.Methods: The non-randomized pilot study included 48 patients divided into two groups: the acupuncture group (n=27) and the 0.3% sodium hyaluronate (SH) group (n=21). Participants in the acupuncture group underwent treatments on six bilateral acupuncture points (BL1, BL2, ST1, LI 20, SI1 and SI3) 3 times per week for 4 weeks. Patients in the SH group received 0.3% SH 4 times per day for 4 weeks. Ocular pain was assessed using the numerical rating scale (NRS), and mental state was evaluated through the self-rating anxiety scale (SAS) and self-rating depression scale (SDS). Ocular surface parameters, concentrations of inflammatory cytokines, and corneal nerve morphological indicators were measured at baseline, the first week, and the fourth week. Randomization procedures were not used in this study, and outcome assessors and statistical analysts were blinded.Results: Compared with baseline, both NRS scores (from 5.91 ± 1.52 to 1.94 ± 1.57) and ocular surface discomfort index (OSDI) scores (from 49.75 ± 14.92 to 29.64 ± 18.79) were decreased after 1 and 4 weeks of treatment in both groups (all p < 0.05). At 4 weeks, the acupuncture group showed significant improvements, including increased tear break-up time (TBUT) and corneal perception, decreased SAS and SDS scores, and reduced concentrations of interleukin (IL)-1β, IL-6, and tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-α concentration in tears (all p < 0.05). These changes were not observed in the SH group (all p > 0.05).Conclusion: Acupuncture treatment could improve ocular surface characteristics in patients with DED, and more importantly, it alleviates their ocular pain and depressive state. The anti-inflammatory effect of acupuncture may be involved in this process. Future research with larger, randomized controlled trials (RCTs) is necessary to confirm these findings and clarify the mechanisms involved.Keywords: acupuncture, dry eye disease, ocular pain, depression, inflammatory cytokines

Nevertheless, extensive research has also revealed that tumor vaccines are not up to expectations for the treatment of solid tumors due to their low immunogenicity. Therefore, there is an urgent need to design a tumor vaccine that can stimulate a broad anti-tumor immune response.Methods: In this work, we developed a nanovaccine (NP-TCL@APS), which includes nanoparticles loaded with colorectal cancer tumor cell lysates (TCL) and Astragalus polysaccharides (APS) into poly (lactic-co-glycolic acid) to induce a robust innate immune response. The NP-TCL@APS was identified by transmission electron microscopy and Malvern laser particle size analyzer. The killing and immune activation effects of NP-TCL@APS were evaluated in vitro. Finally, safety and anti-tumor efficacy were evaluated in the colorectal cancer tumor-bearing mouse model.Results: We found that NP-TCL@APS was preferentially uptaken by DC and further promoted the activation of DC in vitro. Additionally, nanoparticles codelivery of TCL and APS enhanced the antigen-specific CD8+ T cell response and suppressed the growth of tumors in mouse models with good biocompatibility.Conclusion: We successfully prepared a nanovaccine termed NP-TCL@APS, which can promote the maturation of DC and induce strong responses by T lymphocytes to exert anti-tumor effects. Abstract: We present the first catalog of very-high energy and ultra-high energy gamma-ray sources detected by the Large High Altitude Air Shower Observatory (LHAASO). The catalog was compiled using 508 days of data collected by the Water Cherenkov Detector Array (WCDA) from March 2021 to September 2022 and 933 days of data recorded by the Kilometer Squared Array (KM2A) from January 2020 to September 2022. This catalog represents the main result from the most sensitive large coverage gamma-ray survey of the sky above 1 TeV, covering declination from $-$20$^{\circ}$ to 80$^{\circ}$. In total, the catalog contains 90 sources with an extended size smaller than $2^\circ$ and a significance of detection at $> 5\sigma$. Based on our source association criteria, 32 new TeV sources are proposed in this study. Among the 90 sources, 43 sources are detected with ultra-high energy ($E > 100$ TeV) emission at $> 4\sigma$ significance level. Abstract: The diffuse Galactic $\gamma$-ray emission, mainly produced via interactions between cosmic rays and the interstellar medium and/or radiation field, is a very important probe of the distribution, propagation, and interaction of cosmic rays in the Milky Way. In this work we report the measurements of diffuse $\gamma$-rays from the Galactic plane between 10 TeV and 1 PeV energies, with the square kilometer array of the Large High Altitude Air Shower Observatory (LHAASO). Diffuse emissions from the inner ($15^{\circ}10$~TeV). The energy spectrum in the inner Galaxy regions can be described by a power-law function with an index of $-2.99\pm0.04$, which is different from the curved spectrum as expected from hadronic interactions between locally measured cosmic rays and the line-of-sight integrated gas content. Furthermore, the measured flux is higher by a factor of $\sim3$ than the prediction. A similar spectrum with an index of $-2.99\pm0.07$ is found in the outer Galaxy region, and the absolute flux for $10\lesssim E\lesssim60$ TeV is again higher than the prediction for hadronic cosmic ray interactions. The latitude distributions of the diffuse emission are consistent with the gas distribution, while the longitude distributions show clear deviation from the gas distribution. Abstract: Fast transitions between different types of power density spectra (PDS) happening over timescales of several tens of seconds are rare phenomena in black hole X-ray binaries. In this paper, we report a broadband spectral-timing analysis of the fast transitions observed in the 2021 outburst of GX 339-4 using NICER and HXMT observations. We observe transitions between band-limited noise-dominated PDS and type-B quasi-periodic oscillations (QPOs), and their rapid appearance or disappearance. We also make a detailed comparison between the fast transitions in GX 339-4 with those seen in MAXI J1820+070 and MAXI J1348--630. By comparing the spectra of the periods with and without type-B QPOs, we find that the spectral ratios above 10 keV are nearly constant or slightly decreasing, and the values are different between sources. Below 10 keV, the flux change of the Comptonization component is inversely proportional to the flux change of the thermal component, suggesting that the appearance of type-B QPOs is associated with a redistribution of the accretion power between the disc and the Comptonizing emission region. The spectral ratios between the periods with type-B QPO and those with broadband noise are significantly different from that with type-B QPO and without type-B QPO, where the ratios (type-B QPO/broadband noise) show a maximum at around 4 keV and then decrease gradually towards high energies. Finally, we discuss the possible change of the geometry of the inner accretion flow and/or jet during the transitions.

Shengyu Decoction (SYD) is often used to treat CIM. However, its pharmacodynamic basis and therapeutic mechanisms remain unclear.Purpose: This study aimed to clarify the active components and mechanisms of SYD in CIM.Methods: LC-QTOF/MS was used to identify the absorbable components of SYD. A series of network pharmacology methods have been applied to explore hub targets and potential mechanisms. Molecular docking was used to identify the binding ability of potential active ingredients and hub targets. Finally, in vitro experiments were performed to validate these findings.Results: In this study, 33 absorbable prototype components were identified using LC-QTOF/MS. A total of 62 possible targets of SYD in myelosuppression were identified. KEGG pathway enrichment analyses showed that some signaling pathways such as PI3K-Akt and HIF-1 may be the mechanisms by which it functions. Among them, we verified the PI3K-Akt pathway. 6 Hub proteins were screened by Protein–protein interaction (PPI) network analysis. Molecular docking results showed that four absorbable components in SYD showed good binding with six Hub targets. The effectiveness of the four predicted compounds and the mechanism were verified in vitro. It has also been shown that the active component could promote the proliferation of bone marrow stromal cells (BMSCs) and block apoptosis of BMSCs, which may be related to the PI3K-Akt pathway. This result is consistent with the network pharmacology approach and molecular docking predictions.Conclusion: Our results provided not only the candidate active component of SYD, but also a new insights into mechanism of SYD in the treatment of CIM. Abstract: We present a new determination of the smallest neutrino mixing angle ${\theta}_{13}$ and the mass-squared difference ${\Delta}{\rm m}^{2}_{32}$ using a final sample of $5.55 \times 10^{6}$ inverse beta-decay (IBD) candidates with the final-state neutron captured on gadolinium. This sample was selected from the complete data set obtained by the Daya Bay reactor neutrino experiment in 3158 days of operation. Compared to the previous Daya Bay results, selection of IBD candidates has been optimized, energy calibration refined, and treatment of backgrounds further improved. The resulting oscillation parameters are ${\rm sin}^{2}2{\theta}_{13} = 0.0851 \pm 0.0024$, ${\Delta}{\rm m}^{2}_{32} = (2.466 \pm 0.060) \times 10^{-3}{\rm eV}^{2}$ for the normal mass ordering or ${\Delta}{\rm m}^{2}_{32} = -(2.571 \pm 0.060) \times 10^{-3} {\rm eV}^{2}$ for the inverted mass ordering., Comment: 7 pages, 3 figures, 1 table, 10 supplementary files

Abstract: The Large High Altitude Air Shower Observatory (LHAASO) has three sub-arrays, KM2A, WCDA and WFCTA. The flux variations of cosmic ray air showers were studied by analyzing the KM2A data during the thunderstorm on 10 June 2021. The number of shower events that meet the trigger conditions increases significantly in atmospheric electric fields, with maximum fractional increase of 20%. The variations of trigger rates (increases or decreases) are found to be strongly dependent on the primary zenith angle. The flux of secondary particles increases significantly, following a similar trend with that of the shower events. To better understand the observed behavior, Monte Carlo simulations are performed with CORSIKA and G4KM2A (a code based on GEANT4). We find that the experimental data (in saturated negative fields) are in good agreement with simulations, assuming the presence of a uniform upward electric field of 700 V/cm with a thickness of 1500 m in the atmosphere above the observation level. Due to the acceleration/deceleration and deflection by the atmospheric electric field, the number of secondary particles with energy above the detector threshold is modified, resulting in the changes in shower detection rate., Comment: 18 pages, 11 figures

Abstract: The Crab pulsar and the surrounding nebula powered by the pulsar's rotational energy through the formation and termination of a relativistic electron-positron wind is a bright source of gamma-rays carrying crucial information about this complex conglomerate. We report the detection of $\gamma$-rays with a spectrum showing gradual steepening over three energy decades, from $5\times 10^{-4}$ to $1.1$ petaelectronvolt (PeV). The ultra-high-energy photons exhibit the presence of a PeV electron accelerator (a pevatron) with an acceleration rate exceeding 15% of the absolute theoretical limit. Assuming that unpulsed $\gamma$-rays are produced at the termination of the pulsar's wind, we constrain the pevatron's size, between $0.025$ and $0.1$ pc, and the magnetic field $\approx 110 \mu$G. The production rate of PeV electrons, $2.5 \times 10^{36}$ erg $\rm s^{-1}$, constitutes 0.5% of the pulsar's spin-down luminosity, although we do not exclude a non-negligible contribution of PeV protons to the production of the highest energy $\gamma$-rays., Comment: 43 pages, 13 figures, 2 tables; Published in Science

Abstract: A joint determination of the reactor antineutrino spectra resulting from the fission of $^{235}$U and $^{239}$Pu has been carried out by the Daya Bay and PROSPECT collaborations. This Letter reports the level of consistency of $^{235}$U spectrum measurements from the two experiments and presents new results from a joint analysis of both data sets. The measurements are found to be consistent. The combined analysis reduces the degeneracy between the dominant $^{235}$U and $^{239}$Pu isotopes and improves the uncertainty of the $^{235}$U spectral shape to about 3\%. The ${}^{235}$U and $^{239}$Pu antineutrino energy spectra are unfolded from the jointly deconvolved reactor spectra using the Wiener-SVD unfolding method, providing a data-based reference for other reactor antineutrino experiments and other applications. Reactive oxygen species (ROS), followed by the application of chemodynamic therapy (CDT) and photodynamic therapy (PDT), can eliminate HSPs and overcome thermal resistance. However, the tumor microenvironment, including hypoxia and glutathione (GSH) overexpression, impedes the production of ROS and therapeutic efficacy of CDT and PDT. Therefore, we proposed a multifunctional nanoplatform (HMPB@TCPP-Cu) driving PTT/ PDT/ CDT synergistic therapy for tumor treatment via modulating ROS and HSPs.Methods and Results: In this work, a novel nanoplatform (HMPB@TCPP-Cu) composed of O2/PTT supplier HMPB (hollow mesoporous Prussian blue) and the loaded PDT/CDT agent (TCPP-Cu2+) was prepared. HMPB acts as an photothermal converter, effectively raising the tumor temperature and inducing apoptosis. HMPB is also a potent catalase-like nanozyme, which can catalyze hydrogen peroxide into oxygen and reduce tumor hypoxia, thus elevating the efficiency of ROS production and the effectiveness of PDT with the wing of sonosensitizer-TCPP. The intracellular glutathione(GSH) was depleted by Cu2+ and •OH was generated along with the Cu2+/Cu+ converting and Cu+-mediated Fenton-like reaction. Subsequently, the increased levels of ROS effectively eliminate intratumoral thermal resistance. The HMPB@TCPP-Cu has achieved synergistic PTT/PDT/CDT for hepatoblastoma treatment and significant inhibition of tumor growth was detected both in vitro and in vivo.Conclusion: This study presents a multifunctional nanoplatform that combines photothermal/ chemodynamic/ photodynamic therapy for efficient hepatoblastoma treatment via modulating ROS and HSPs. However, the therapeutic mechanisms of XLZXT for UC have yet to be fully understood. This study aimed to investigate the curative benefits of XLZXT and its associated mechanisms for healing UC in mice.Methods: In the present study, the 1% dextran sulfate sodium (DSS) solution was used to establish the UC model in C57BL/6N mice. To investigate the therapeutic effects of XLZXT on DSS-induced UC mice, several parameters were measured, including DAI score, colon length, spleen index, pathological changes in colon tissue, and levels of inflammatory factors in plasma and colon tissue. By investigating the gut microbiota, assessing the levels of intestinal mucosal protein expression, and looking at the proteins involved in the TLR4/MyD88/NF-B p65 signaling pathway, the mechanisms of XLZXT impact on UC were investigated. Mouse feces were examined for patterns of gut microbiota expression using high-throughput sequencing of 16S rRNA.Results: XLZXT effectively alleviated UC symptoms and colon pathological damage in DSS-induced UC mice. It improved body weight loss, stool consistency, and hematochezia, while also repairing colon damage. Moreover, it down-regulated pro-inflammatory cytokines (such as TNF-α, IL-1β, and IL-6), and up-regulated anti-inflammatory cytokines (such as IL-10). XLZXT also increased the expression of MUC-2, Occludin and ZO-1, while decreasing the expression of NF-κB, MyD88 and TLR4. Additionally, it regulated gut microbiota disorder by increasing the abundance of beneficial bacteria and reducing the adhesion of intestinal harmful bacteria.Conclusion: XLZXT demonstrated therapeutic effects on DSS-induced UC mice. The mechanisms may be associated with repairing the intestinal mucosal barrier, regulating the TLR4/MyD88/NF-κB p65 signaling pathway, and restoring the balance of gut microbiota.Plain Language Summary: This is the first study to probe the therapeutic potential of XLZXT for UC. Our findings indicated that XLZXT could effectively alleviate the clinical symptoms of UC and in-depth apparently modify the levels of relevant cytokines in the organism to maintain the system homeostasis. Abstract: The Wide Field-of-View Cherenkov Telescope Array (WFCTA) and the Water Cherenkov Detector Arrays (WCDA) of LHAASO are designed to work in combination for measuring the energy spectra of various cosmic ray species over a very wide energy range from a few TeV to 10 PeV. The energy calibration of WCDA can be achieved with a proven technique of measuring the westward shift of the Moon shadow of galactic cosmic rays due to the geomagnetic field. This deflection angle $\Delta$ is inversely proportional to the energy of the cosmic rays. The precise measurements of the shifts by WCDA allows us to calibrate its energy scale for energies as high as 35 TeV. The energy scale measured by WCDA can be used to cross calibrate the energy reconstructed by WFCTA, which spans the whole energy range up to 10 PeV. In this work, we will demonstrate the feasibility of the method using the data collected from April 2019 to January 2020 by the WFCTA array and WCDA-1 detector, the first of the three water Cherenkov ponds, already commissioned at LHAASO site.

Abstract: Understanding the nucleon spin structure in the regime where the strong interaction becomes truly strong poses a challenge to both experiment and theory. At energy scales below the nucleon mass of about 1 GeV, the intense interaction among the quarks and gluons inside the nucleon makes them highly correlated. Their coherent behaviour causes the emergence of effective degrees of freedom, requiring the application of non-perturbative techniques, such as chiral effective field theory. Here, we present measurements of the neutron's generalized spin-polarizabilities that quantify the neutron's spin precession under electromagnetic fields at very low energy-momentum transfer squared down to 0.035 GeV$^2$. In this regime, chiral effective field theory calculations are expected to be applicable. Abstract: Wildfire plays an important role in restructuring bacterial and protist taxonomic and functional communities in forest ecosystems. Yet, the recovery of bacterial and protist communities following wildfire has not been rigorously investigated across long-term wildfire chronosequences. We compared changes in bacterial and protist alpha diversity, community composition, co-occurrence networks and determinant edaphic factors between burnt and unburnt (reference) soils at 11 different sites representing a 76-year wildfire chronosequence in Canadian boreal forests. The fire increased bacterial and protist alpha diversity and altered community composition (beta diversity) as compared to the site-specific controls during the early recovery stage (30 years) recovery stages. Bacterial and protist communities showed similar patterns of change across the wildfire chronosequence. The post-fire recovery of bacterial communities was associated with changes in soil chemical properties (e.g., nutrient status and pH) and vegetation succession. The protist community assembly was co-influenced by changes in bacterial communities and vegetation succession/soil properties. The concurrent recovery of bacterial and protist communities, and their influencing factors of vegetation and soil properties, imply the above- and belowground living communities are strongly linked in wildfire-perturbed forest ecosystems.

Abstract: The focal plane camera is the core component of the Wide Field-of-view Cherenkov/fluorescence Telescope Array (WFCTA) of the Large High-Altitude Air Shower Observatory (LHAASO). Because of the capability of working under moonlight without aging, silicon photomultipliers (SiPM) have been proven to be not only an alternative but also an improvement to conventional photomultiplier tubes (PMT) in this application. Eighteen SiPM-based cameras with square light funnels have been built for WFCTA. The telescopes have collected more than 100 million cosmic ray events and preliminary results indicate that these cameras are capable of working under moonlight. The characteristics of the light funnels and SiPMs pose challenges (e.g. dynamic range, dark count rate, assembly techniques). In this paper, we present the design features, manufacturing techniques and performances of these cameras. This study attempted to analyze serum microRNAs (miRNAs) in NAC resistant and sensitive BC patients and develop a miRNA-based nomogram model. To further help clinicians make treatment decisions for hormone receptor-positive patients.Methods: A total of 110 BC patients with NAC were recruited and assigned in sensitive and resistant group, and 4 sensitive patients and 3 resistant patients were subjected to high-throughput sequencing. The functions of their target genes were analyzed by GO and KEGG. Five BC-related reported miRNAs were selected for expression pattern measurement by RT-qPCR and multivariate logistic analysis. The nomogram model was developed using R 4.0.1, and its predictive efficacy, consistency and clinical application value in development and validation groups were evaluated using ROC, calibration and decision curves.Results: There were 44 differentially-expressed miRNAs in resistant BC patients. miR-3646, miR-4741, miR-6730-3p, miR-6831-5p and miR-8485 were candidate for resistance diagnosis in BC. Logistic multiple regression analysis showed that miR-4741 (or = 0.30, 95% CI = 0.08– 0.63, P = 0.02) and miR-6831-5p (or = 0.48, 95% CI = 0.24– 0.78, P = 0.01) were protective factors of BC resistance. The ROC curves showed a sensitivity of 0.884 and 0.750 for miR-4741 and miR-6831-5P as markers of resistance, suggesting that they can be used as independent risk factors for BC resistance. The other 3 miRNAs can be used as calibration factors to establish the risk prediction model of resistance in BC. In risk model, the prediction accuracy of resistance of BC is about 78%. 5-miRNA signature diagnostic models can help clinicians provide personalized treatment for NAC resistance BC patients to improve patient survival.Conclusion: MiR-4741 and miR-6831-5p are independent risk factors for breast cancer resistance. The differences in long-term prognosis between two groups were compared.Results: The results showed that narrow resection margin (Hazard Ratio (HR):1.457, 95% Confidential Interval (CI): 1.038– 2.047; HR:1.415, 95% CI: 1.061– 1.887), tumor diameter > 5 cm (1.645, 1.161– 2.330; 1.488, 1.123– 1.971), multiple tumors (2.021, 1.330– 3.073; 1.987, 1.380– 2.861), and microvascular invasion (MVI) (1.753, 1.253– 2.452; 1.438, 1.087– 1.902) are independent risk factors for overall survival (OS) and tumor recurrence (TR), while liver resection modality is not. After propensity score matching, liver resection modality is not an independent risk factor for OS and TR. Further analysis revealed that wide resection margins were achieved in all patients in the LH group but only 59.0% patients in the LLL group. The OS and TR rates were not significantly different between wide patients with resection margins in LLL group and LH group (P=0.766 and 0.919, respectively), but significantly different between patients with narrow resection margins in LLL group and LH group (P=0.012 and 0.017, respectively).Conclusion: Liver resection modality is not an independent risk factor for the prognosis of patients with HCC on the left lateral lobe as long as wide margins are obtained. Major drawbacks of conventional therapies in liver metastasis were the lack of metastatic-targeting ability, predominant systemic toxicities and incapability of tumor microenvironment modulations. Lipid nanoparticles-based strategies like galactosylated, lyso-thermosensitive or active-targeting chemotherapeutics liposomes have been explored in liver metastasis management. This review aimed to summarize the state-of-art lipid nanoparticles-based therapies in liver metastasis management. Clinical and translational studies on the lipid nanoparticles in treating liver metastasis were searched up to April, 2023 from online databases. This review focused not only on the updates in drug-encapsulated lipid nanoparticles directly targeting metastatic cancer cells in treating liver metastasis, but more importantly on research frontiers in drug-loading lipid nanoparticles targeting nonparenchymal liver tumor microenvironment components in treating liver metastasis, which showed promise for future clinical oncological practice.Keywords: liver neoplasms, neoplasm metastasis, liposomes, tumor microenvironment

Abstract: As a sub-array of the Large High Altitude Air Shower Observatory (LHAASO), KM2A is mainly designed to cover a large fraction of the northern sky to hunt for gamma-ray sources at energies above 10 TeV. Even though the detector construction is still underway, a half of the KM2A array has been operating stably since the end of 2019. In this paper, we present the pipeline of KM2A data analysis and the first observation on the Crab Nebula, a standard candle in very high energy gamma-ray astronomy. We detect gamma-ray signals from the Crab Nebula in both energy ranges of 10$-$100 TeV and $>$100 TeV with high significance, by analyzing the KM2A data of 136 live days between December 2019 and May 2020. With the observations, we test the detector performance including angular resolution, pointing accuracy and cosmic ray background rejection power. The energy spectrum of the Crab Nebula in the energy range 10-250 TeV fits well with a single power-law function dN/dE =(1.13$\pm$0.05$_{stat}$$\pm$0.08$_{sys}$)$\times$10$^{-14}$$\cdot$(E/20TeV)$^{-3.09\pm0.06_{stat}\pm0.02_{sys}}$ cm$^{-2}$ s$^{-1}$ TeV$^{-1}$. It is consistent with previous measurements by other experiments. This opens a new window of gamma-ray astronomy above 0.1 PeV through which ultrahigh-energy gamma-ray new phenomena, such as cosmic PeVatrons, might be discovered., Comment: 13 pages, 15 figures,submitted to CPC
