Introducing legumes into C4-dominated tropical pastures, may enhance their sustainability but has some pasture management constraints. One potential alternative is using arboreal legumes, but several of these species have relatively high condensed tannin (CT) concentrations, which negatively impact forage quality. There is limited knowledge, however, on how arboreal legume leaf CT content varies over the year and how this might impact forage quality. The objective of this 2 year study was to assess the seasonal variation of CT and nutritive value for ruminants of the tropical tree legumes gliricidia [Gliricidia sepium (Jacq.) Kunth ex. Walp.] and mimosa (Mimosa caesalpiniifolia Benth). The research was carried out in the sub-humid tropical region of Brazil on well-established pastures in which either legume was present with signalgrass (Urochloa decumbens Stapf.). We determined CT and nitrogen concentrations, in vitro digestible organic matter (IVDOM), and leaf δ13C and δ15N from January to October of 2017 and 2018. All parameters were affected (P < 0.05) by the interaction between legume species and sampling time, with generally higher leaf CT content for mimosa than gliricidia, and both were reduced at the start of the dry season, although much more drastically for mimosa. The IVDOM was strongly affected by CT content and increased at the start of the dry season, coincidentally when C4 grass forage quality typically decreased. There is a marked species effect, with CT from gliricidia impacting IVDOM more than the same CT content from mimosa. While N concentration from mimosa also increased at the start of the dry season, that for gliricidia did not vary over the year. We conclude that although these arboreal legumes have relatively high CT contents, these reduce during the dry season when CT concentrations coinciding with a reduced forage quality as the protein content for C4 grasses is usually inadequate in this season. This work aims to fabricate the antibacterial coating with green biocide successfully. For this purpose, mimosa tannins were acylated with lauroyl chloride's aid and pyridine's support as a catalyst in the 1,4-dioxane, hexane and xylene solvents. Infrared analysis showed that mimosa tannins synthesized in the 1,4-dioxane were acylated better than in the other two solvents. FE-SEM analysis of the paint film showed that the acylated mimosa tannins at a content of 5 % dispersed quite well in the polymer matrix. The results of analyzing the mechanical properties of the paint film containing acylated mimosa tannins with contents ≤5 % show that the mechanical properties of the paint film are only slightly reduced compared to the mechanical properties of the pure coating, reaching the values: adhesion of size #1; abrasion resistance of 132.8 L/mil; impact strength of 170 kg cm and a relative hardness of 0.78. Summary: This study investigated the variation in mineral elements in bracatinga (Mimosa scabrella Bentham) honeydew honeys produced biannually over three consecutive harvest years. The aim was to assess the relationship between the year of production and the concentration of fourteen rare earth elements and six trace elements analysed using ICP‐MS. The concentrations of the twenty elements varied (P < 0.001) among all the honey samples. The dominant rare earth elements were Eu, followed by Nd and La, while Pd and Au were the major trace elements. Cluster analysis (CA) and linear discriminant analysis (LDA) were performed using all the elements identified. The LDA categorised (83.3% accuracy) the bracatinga honeydew honey samples according to their harvest year. Discriminant functions, influenced by Ce, Tb, and Th, show distinct elemental patterns in bracatinga honeydew honeys, varying with harvest year. This reflects fluctuations in yearly climatic conditions and is important to guarantee accurate characterisation. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Acacia dealbata Link, known as Mimosa in Portugal, is an invasive hardwood species with potential for construction use, but research is limited. The available stock of small-diameter juvenile wood logs can help reduce this gap, but tangential cracking at log ends challenges fastener connections. This study evaluated different treatments to control and reduce end-face cracking in small wood logs during air drying, an economical and environmentally friendly procedure. The extreme two-thirds of sixteen Mimosa logs were subjected to two treatments: one with longitudinal kerfs 15 mm deep along the length (two and three kerfs) and the other with a hollow in the center up to half the length (16 mm and 30 mm diameters). Over 219 days of air drying and compared with the central part, kerfing treatments significantly reduced outer-wood tangential cracking (p < 0.001), with the three kerfs also reducing crack numbers (p < 0.05) but increasing significantly cracks near the pith (p < 0.01). The 30 mm central hollow significantly reduced central perforation cracking (p < 0.05). Prospectively, the results suggest that a combined treatment approach involving cross-cuts could help reduce and/or control end cracking, thereby improving the suitability of wild Mimosa logs for construction use. La crianza de paiche en la Amazonía peruana produce suficiente materia prima para la elaboración de cuero a base de piel de pescado; sin embargo, estas pieles representan un problema de contaminación debido a su limitado aprovechamiento. En esta investigación, se resalta la relevancia de emplear procedimientos tanto mecánicos como químicos con el fin de obtener cuero de excelente calidad. Para llevar a cabo este proceso, se utilizaron diferentes concentraciones de quebracho y mimosa. El cuero de piel de paiche resultante fue resistente y moldeable, con una capacidad de resistencia a la flexión que excede las 30 000 flexiones sin deformación, mayor resistencia al desgarro en T1 (146.23 N) y T5 (143.12 N) y mayor tracción en T4 (16.62 N/mm2). Además, presentó un contenido de cenizas inferior al 1%, humedad inferior al 9% y óxido de cromo inferior al 1.5%. Se trataron además los efluentes generados durante el proceso, los cuales presentaron valores aceptables de pH, conductividad y DQO.

Phytochemical study of green propolis alcohol extract of Brazilian Caatinga Mimosa tenuiflora (Willd.) Poir resulted in the separation of six flavonoids, including quercetin 3‐methyl ether (1) and 3,3′‐O‐dimethylquercetin (2), and four flavanones eriodictyol 5‐O‐methyl ether (3), 5,4′‐dihydroxy‐6,7‐dimethoxyflavanone (4), licoflavanone (5), and macarangaflavanone B (6). All these metabolites were first isolated from green propolis and the genus Mimosa. Metabolites 3–4 also established chemotaxonomic significance since they had never been observed in the bean family Fabaceae. Flavones 1–2 showed strong antioxidative activity against DPPH (1,1‐diphenyl‐2‐picryl hydrazyl) radicals with IC50 values of 12.40 and 16.23 μg/mL, respectively. All six isolates showed anti‐inflammatory effects against NO (nitric oxide) production in LPS (lipopolysaccharide)‐stimulated Raw 264.7 cells, in which the activity of flavone 1 was better than the standard dexamethasone (IC50 13.35 μg/mL). Flavonoids 1–3 also strongly controlled the growth of the Gram‐positive bacteria Bacillus subtilis ATCC 6051, and Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 29213 with MIC values of 32–64 μg/mL. Six isolated flavonoids exhibited strong or moderate mosquito larvicidal activity against Aedes aegypti and Ae. albopictus fourth instar larvae with the 24 h LC50 values of 29.62–55.89 μg/mL. Stress response, an intricate and autonomously coordinated reaction in living organisms, holds a reversible, multi‐path, and multi‐state nature. However, existing stimuli‐responsive materials often exhibit single‐step and monotonous reactions due to the limited integration of structural components. Inspired by the cooperative interplay of extensor and flexor cells within Mimosa's pulvini, we present a hydrogel with differentiated hydrogen‐bonding (H‐bonding) networks designed to enable the biological stress response. Weak H‐bonding domains resemble flexor cells, confined within a hydrophobic network stabilized by strong H‐bonding clusters (acting like extensor cells). Under external force, strong H‐bonding clusters are disrupted, facilitating water diffusion from the bottom layer and enabling transient expansion pressure gradient along the thickness direction. Subsequently, water diffuses upward, gradually equalizing the pressure, while weak H‐bonding domains undergo cooperative elastic deformation. Consequently, the hydrogel autonomously undergoes a sequence of reversible and pluralistic motion responses, similar to Mimosa's touch‐triggered stress response. Intriguingly, it exhibits stress‐dependent color shifts under polarized light, highlighting its potential for applications in time‐sensitive "double‐lock" information encryption systems. This work achieves the coordinated stress response inspired by natural tissues using a simple hydrogel, paving the way for substantial advancements in the development of intelligent soft robots. Differences in stomatal density (SD) and stomatal index (SI) are associated with the conditions of the environment in which they are distributed. Mimosa species are important elements in different plant communities, yet knowledge of the ecological implications of its stomatal characteristics is scarce. For this reason, SD and SI were determined in seven Mimosa species from different environments in this study. Five individuals per species were selected, and a sample of leaflets was obtained from each. Fifteen mature leaflets per individual were then extracted and observed by optical microscopy. SD, SI, epidermal cell density (ECD), and guard cell length (GCL) values were obtained. Differences between species were analyzed through a balanced analysis of variance test, and the correspondence between the stomatal characteristics and 21 climate variables was determined by canonical correspondence analysis. The species differed in all evaluated characteristics. It should be noted that only M. affinis showed differences between the leaflet surfaces. Both DE and ECD were negatively associated with altitude and solar radiation and positively with temperature and precipitation. SI was explained by temperature and seasonality of precipitation, and GCL by temperature oscillation and seasonality of precipitation. The results suggest that the stomatal characteristics of the leaflets confer resistance in the species to alterations in environmental conditions. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Deformation plays a vital role in the survival of natural organisms. One example is that plants deform themselves to face the sun for sufficient sunlight exposure, which allows them to produce nutrients through photosynthesis. Drawing inspiration from nature, researchers have been exploring the development of 3D deformable materials. However, the traditional approach to manufacturing deformable hydrogels relies on complex technology, which limits their potential applications. In this study, we simulate the stress variations observed in the plant tissue to create a 3D structure from a 2D material. Using UV curing technology, we create a single-layer poly(N-isopropylacrylamide) hydrogel sheet with microchannels that exhibit distinct swelling rates when subjected to stimulation. After a two-step curing process, we produce a poly(N-isopropylacrylamide)–polyethylene glycol diacrylatedouble-layer structure that can be manipulated to change its shape by controlling the light and solvent content. Based on the double-layer structure, we fabricate a dual-response driven bionic mimosa robot that can perform a variety of functions. This soft robot can not only reversibly change its shape but also maintain a specific shape without continuous stimulation. Its capacity for reversible deformation, resulting from internal stress, presents promising application prospects in the biomedical and soft robotics domain. Background: Considerable focus has been directed toward green synthesis as a dependable, sustainable, and environmentally friendly approach for synthesizing various nanomaterials. Mimosa pudica, a quickly grown pantropical weed, has been used widely for its anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial activity in traditional medicine. The development of strontium-based nanoparticles and nanoparticles linked with strontium has garnered attention in recent years due to their established utility in diverse domains such as effective drug distribution, bioimaging, cancer treatment, and advancements in bone engineering. Aims and Objectives: To examine the green synthesise of strontium nanoparticles using Mimosa pudica and its anti-inflammatory activity. Material and Methods: Mimosa pudica-mediated strontium nanoparticles' anti-inflammatory activity was tested using bovine serum albumin denaturation assay, egg albumin denaturation assay, and membrane stabilization assay with diclofenac sodium as the standard. Result: In all three assays, increasing concentration of Mimosa pudica-mediated strontium nanoparticles exhibited an increasing anti-inflammatory effect, which was similar to the standard diclofenac sodium. Although plants and animals both assess their environment and respond to stimuli, this reaction is considered a behavior in animals and a response in plants. Responses in plants are seen within various timescales- from the nanosecond stimuli is presented to a lifelong progression. Within this study, we bridge the gap between animal behavioral studies and plant response. Sensitive plants (Mimosa pudica L.) are an ideal subject for this due to the rapid closure of their primary leaflets when touched. We designed a multimodal, or stress combination, experiment to test two hypotheses with sensitive plants: if they could be distracted and if they would alter their risk assessment when exposed to external stimuli (wind and sound). To evaluate the distraction hypothesis, we measured an individuals latency to close, hypothesizing that if the plants were distracted, they would take longer to close. To evaluate the uncertain risk hypothesis, we quantified the latency to reopen, hypothesizing that if the plants were uncertain, they would take longer to reopen. We also quantified the number of pinnae closed on the selected stem to test for changes in risk assessment across treatments. We expected the unimodal treatments would distract or alter risk assessment, and the multimodal treatment would elicit an enhanced response. Multimodal stimuli had a significant effect on the number of pinnae closed before the tap, but we found no evidence that plants were distracted by any stimulus tested. We found that temperature had a significant effect on the latency to close, and that plants modified their risk assessment when exposed to experimental wind stimuli. By manipulating environmental stimuli, we found that sensitive plants trade-off energy and perceived risk much in the way that is commonly found in animals. Framing the study of plants responses to environmental stimuli as behavioral questions may generate new insights.

The genus Mimosa L. (Leguminosae; Caesalpinioideae; mimosoid clade), comprising more than 500 species, is an intriguing genus because, like other members of the mimosoid clade, it presents an enormous variation in floral characteristics and high merism lability. Thus, this study aimed to elucidate the floral development and identify which ontogenetic pathways give rise to merism variation and andromonoecy in Mimosa caesalpiniifolia, M. pudica, M. bimucronata, and M. candollei. Floral buds at various stages of development and flowers were collected, fixed, and processed for surface analysis (SEM). The development of the buds is synchronous in the inflorescences. Sepals appear simultaneously as individualized primordia in M. caesalpiniifolia and in reversed unidirectional order in M. bimucronata, with union and formation of an early ring-like calyx. Petal primordia appear in unidirectional order, with a noticeably elliptical shape in M. caesalpiniifolia. The wide merism variation in Mimosa results from the absence of organs from inception in the perianth and androecium whorls: in dimerous, trimerous, or tetramerous flowers, the additional organs primordia to compose the expected pentamerous flowers are not initiated. The haplostemonous androecium of M. pudica results from the absence of antepetalous stamens from inception. In the case of intraspecific variations (instabilities), there is no initiation and subsequent abortion of organs in the events of reduction in merosity. In addition, extra primordia are initiated in supernumerary cases. On the other hand, staminate flowers originate from the abortion of the carpel. Mimosa proved to be an excellent model for studying merism variation. The lability is associated with actinomorphic and rather congested flowers in the inflorescences. Our data, in association with others of previous studies, suggest that the high lability in merism appeared in clades that diverged later in the mimosoid clade. Thus, phylogenetic reconstruction studies are needed for more robust evolutionary inferences. The present investigation of ontogenetic processes was relevant to expand our understanding of floral evolution in the genus Mimosa and shed light on the unstable merism in the mimosoid clade. One of the alternative materials used for conducting conservation treatment of iron artifacts is the rust converter, since it generates barrier properties and more stable oxides. The protective properties and surface modifications from using Mimosa tenuiflora extract as a green rust converter on a gray iron oxide layer were studied. The surface characterization was carried out using a Scanning Electron Microscope coupled to an energy-dispersive X-ray spectrometer (SEM-EDS), along with infrared spectroscopy (IR), Raman spectroscopy, X-ray Diffraction (XRD), and Water Contact Angle (WCA). Electrochemical characterization was performed with an Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscope (EIS) using 3.5 wt.% NaCl as the electrolyte. According to the results of the Raman spectroscopy and XRD, the layer of corrosion products formed after 90 days in the atmosphere was composed of goethite, lepidocrocite, maghemite, hematite, and magnetite. The surface of the corrosion products was transformed with the rust converter into an amorphous and microcracked layer. By IR, the Fe-O and C-O-Fe bonds associated with the iron chelate were found with absorption bands at 1540 and 1567 cm−1, respectively. By XRD, a modification of the magnetite crystallinity was observed. Finally, the Water Contact Angle and the protective capacity of the corrosion products were improved by the presence of the rust converter. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Mimosa caesalpiniifolia and Pityrocarpa moniliformis occur in arid and semi-arid regions where quality water is scarce. Furthermore, the presence of salts in water or soil reduces germination and seedling formation, reducing the establishment of seedlings in degraded areas. Exposing seeds to conditioning cycles with elicitors can favor species' survival under saline stress conditions. Simulated saline stress (200 mM NaCl) reduced germination, growth, and biomass accumulation in seedlings of both species, with P. moniliformis being more tolerant than M. caesalpiniifolia. The mitigation of impacts induced by salinity stress on the formation of M. caesalpiniifolia seedlings was obtained after two cycles of conditioning with gibberellic acid, naturally produced by plants acting as a growth regulator. Previous imbibition of the seeds increased the efficiency of this regulator under salinity. For P. moniliformis, increased tolerance to salinity stress occurred with the water imbibition cycle. This process is sufficient to activate metabolic and respiratory activities, essential for germination to continue and form seedlings even under salinity stress. This demonstrates that the results differ between species, the number of cycles, and tolerance-eliciting agents. Objective. Determine and compare the biochemical and mineral composition of the plant species consumed by grazing goats in three seasons of the year (drought, rain, and transition). Materials and methods. The plant species consumed by goats were sampled in each season during the time that they fed on the rangeland, following them by the feeding paths and recording the species and plant organs they consumed. The data were used to calculate a preference index, recording consumption frequency, and selecting the three most consumed species per season. Results. The most consumed species in the drought season were Cyrtocarpa edulis, Pithecollobium confine, and Cercidium floridum; Forchhammeria watsonii, Tecoma stans, and Cercidium floridum during transition; Cyrtocarpa edulis, Indigofera suffruticosa, and Mimosa distachya in the rainy season. The protein and ethereal extract contents were higher (p≤0.05) in drought season, and those of Ca, Mg, Mn, K, P, and total-N were higher (p≤0.05) in the rainy season. Conclusions. The plant species associated with the rangeland in the study area showed variation per season in mineral and biochemical contents. Estudos sobre a morfologia de espécies de Fabaceae presentes no bioma Caatinga são escassos, sendo estes importantes para reconhecimento das espécies. Esse trabalho teve como objetivo descrever as diferenças morfológicas entre sementes, plântulas e triodendross de Piptadenia retusa, Mimosa tenuiflora e Mimosa ophthalmocentra ocorrentes no bioma Caatinga. Foram analisadas as características externas e internas, a biometria, o peso de mil sementes e três fases de desenvolvimento: germinação, plântulas e tirodendro. A posição do pleurograma na semente diferiu entre as espécies. As três espécies têm sementes eurispérmicas e albuminosas, assim como germinação epígea/fanerocotiledonar com cotilédones foliáceos. As plântulas das três espécies são aculeadas, com presença de nectário extrafloral apenas em P. retusa, tricomas glandulares e foliólulos com glândulas translúcidas apenas em M. tenuiflora e folhas alternas dísticas em M. ophthalmocentra, diferindo das demais, que são alternas espiraladas.

This paper presents results of computational and experimental studies of the evolution of turbulent mixing in three-layer gas systems with the development of hydrodynamic instabilities, in particular, the Richtmyer–Meshkov and Kelvin–Helmholtz instabilities, under the action of shock waves. One of the contact boundaries between gases is flat, while the other one has the form of a chevron. The numerical simulations are carried out both with and without initial perturbations of contact boundaries. In light of pressing global health concerns, the significance of indoor air quality in densely populated structures has been emphasized. This research introduces the Mimosa kinetic façade, an innovative design inspired by the adaptive responsiveness of the Mimosa plant to environmental stimuli. Traditional static architectural façades often hinder natural ventilation, leading to diminished air quality with potential health and cognitive repercussions. The Mimosa kinetic façade addresses these challenges by enhancing effective airflow and facilitating the removal of airborne contaminants. This study evaluates the façade's impact on quality of life and its aesthetic contribution to architectural beauty, utilizing the biomimicry design spiral for a nature-inspired approach. Computational simulations and physical tests were conducted to assess the ventilation capacities of various façade systems, with a particular focus on settings in Bangkok, Thailand. The study revealed that kinetic façades, especially certain patterns, provided superior ventilation compared to static ones. Some patterns prioritized ventilation, while others optimized human comfort during extended stays. Notably, the most effective patterns of the kinetic façade inspired by the Mimosa demonstrated a high air velocity reaching up to 12 m/s, in contrast to the peak of 2.50 m/s in single-sided façades (traditional façades). This highlights the kinetic façade's potential to rapidly expel airborne particles from indoor spaces, outperforming traditional façades. The findings underscore the potential of specific kinetic façade patterns in enhancing indoor air quality and human comfort, indicating a promising future for kinetic façades in architectural design. In this work, a new low-toxicity nanocontainer is proposed to functionalize an epoxy coating. The nanocontainer is made up of 1) a hierarchical mesoporous structure of ZnO, 2) the Mimosa tenuiflora [Mt] extract, and 3) a tannic acid-iron complex (Fe-TA). The performance of the modified coating with ZnO/[Mt]@Fe-TA nanocontainers sprayed on low-carbon steel in a saline solution of NaCl (3.5%) is evaluated. The characterization of the hierarchical mesoporous structure of ZnO includes the specific surface area and adsorption/desorption isotherms obtained by BET method. Likewise, the chemical composition of the extract of the [Mt] bark is determined by Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy and 13 C Nuclear Magnetic Resonance. The nanocontainers are characterized by X-Ray Diffraction, Scanning Electronic Microscopy, Thermogravimetric Analysis, and Differential Scanning Calorimetry. The performance of the coating added with ZnO/[Mt]@Fe-TA nanocontainers is carried out by Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy (EIS). The results exhibit that although ionic permeability occurs in the coating, the ZnO/[Mt]@Fe-TA nanocontainers are responsible for the formation of an oxide layer that mitigates the degradation of the coating. In addition, the electrochemical parameters show oscillations throughout the entire exposure time, suggesting that ZnO/[Mt]@Fe-TA nanocontainers could be potential pigments for a self-healing coating. Purpose Profiting from agricultural waste and lowering production costs for farmers have been made possible by the incorporation of bagasse and local resources as a substitute for sawdust. Method The experiment was using a CRD. Follows: Bagasse 100 % Bagasse: Rice straw (25:75%) Bagasse: Rice straw (50:50%) Bagasse: Rice straw (75:25%) Bagasse: Giant mimosa (25:75%) Bagasse: Giant mimosa (50:50%) Bagasse: Giant mimosa (75:25%) Bagasse: Rice straw: Giant mimosa (25:35:40%) Bagasse: Rice straw: Giant mimosa (50:25:25%) Bagasse: Rice straw: Giant mimosa (75:15:10%) Rice straw 100% Giant mimosa 100% and Sawdust 100% (control) Results The highest average fabric expansion rate of 9.76 cm was generated by the bagasse to gigantic mimosa ratio of 75:15:10. Also, Para rubber sawdust had the lowest fiber rate of growth of 7.26 cm on average (100%). When evaluating mushroom proliferation, the 8th procedure to solve the bagasse: straw: giant mimosa (25:30:40%) gave the greatest average number of mushrooms per bag equal to 8.25. The technique that produced the lowest mushroom per bag of 100% of giant mimosa was 5.50, with diameter pileus ranging from 5.93 to 6.77 cm, and flower stripe length ranging from 3.12 to 3.75 cm. There was no statistical difference at the 95% confidence level according to the findings. Whenever biological efficiency (B.E.) was considered. Conclusion The results showed that bagasse: chopped straw: chopped giant mimosa (25:35:40%) would have a maximum value of 58.96%. Tannins are water-soluble polyphenols mostly found in vascular plants and are important raw materials in many industries like leather, pharmaceuticals, and food and beverages. Tannins protect the plant and help its growth. In this study, Tamarindus indica L. seeds were extracted for the determination of tannin content and the tanning strength by the hide powder method. Earlier studies showed that Tamarindus indica L. seeds varied in the amount of tannins present. Mimosa was used as a control. The tanning strength was 1.73 for the tamarind seed extract and 2.06 for mimosa. The tannin content was >10% for both the tamarind seed extract and mimosa. It was concluded that both tamarind seed extract and mimosa had sufficient tanning strength exceeding (1.5) the minimum recommended for a tanning agent hence providing insights as a feasible material for the tanning process.

Introduction. Anti-inflammatories, immunosuppressants, and immunobiological are commonly used in the treatment of inflammatory bowel disease. However, some patients do not present an adequate response or lose effective response during the treatment. A recent study found a potential anti-inflammatory effect of the hydroalcoholic extract of Mimosa caesalpiniifolia on trinitrobenzene sulfonic acid-induced colitis in Wistar rats. Objective. To evaluate the effects of M. caesalpiniifolia pre-formulation on the intestinal barrier using dextran sulfate sodium-induced colitis model. Materials and methods. Leaf extracts were prepared in 70% ethanol and dried with a Buchi B19 Mini-spray dryer using 20% Aerosil® solution. Thirty-two male Wistar rats were randomized into four groups: basal control, untreated colitis, pre-formulation control (125 mg/kg/day), and colitis treated with pre-formulation (125 mg/kg/day). Clinical activity index was recorded daily and all rats were euthanized on the ninth day. Colon fragments were fixed and processed for histological and ultrastructural analyses. Stool samples were collected and processed for analysis of the short-chain fatty acid. Results. Treatment with the pre-formulation decreased the clinical activity (bloody diarrhea), inflammatory infiltrate, and the ulcers. Pre-formulation did not repair the epithelial barrier and there were no significant differences in the goblet cells index. There was a significant difference in butyrate levels in the rats treated with the pre-formulation. Conclusions. The pre-formulation minimized the clinical symptoms of colitis and intestinal inflammation, but did not minimize damage to the intestinal barrier.

Chromium (III) sulfate is a popular tanning agent for producing leather. However, chrome tanning wastewater is one of the problems in the leather tanning industry. To prevent this, tanning using vegetable materials can be used in the leather tanning process. One of the natural ingredients that can be used is mimosa. However, mimosa is relatively expensive, so a substitute/combination tanning agent is needed to make tanning costs cheaper. This research aims to determine the effect of using a combination of mimosa and silicic acid from rice husk (RHSA) tanners on the quality of the tanned leather produced. This research uses a completely randomized factorial design with mimosa and RHSA as factors. The analysis shows that the best treatments were 20% mimosa and 20% RHSA. In addition, the analysis shows that the treatment met the standard. The resulting shrinkage temperature was 84 °C, tear strength was 39.98 N mm-1, tensile strength was 26.42 N mm-2 and elongation at break was 41%. Combination tanning also shows no significant difference from conventional tanning and reduces mimosa without decreasing leather quality.

Heliotropium europaeum has been traditionally used to stop bleeding and accelerate scarring. This study provides a scientific evaluation of H. europaeum haemostatic and healing potential. To evaluate the haemostatic effect of H. europaeum, the time of bleeding of fresh wounds induced experimentally in rats was studied. Excision wounds were induced upon four groups; each one contains six rats to estimate the healing properties of wounds. Group 1 was assigned as control (not treated), group 2 was daily treated with H. europaeum leaf powder, group 3 was treated with H. europaeum every 6 days and group 4 was treated with a reference drug, an emulsion containing 10% of Mimosa tenuiflora extract. All the parameters were significantly tested (p < 0.05) with comparison to a group control. The use of H. europaeum significantly shortened the bleeding time. The rats which were daily treated with H. europaeum healed in 12 days. This time period was significantly shorter than the control groups. Wound excision was uniformly induced randomly on the dorsum of rats in 4 groups (tested support and control). The post-healing biopsies were histologically assessed, revealed a better healing quality, and continued complete tissue regeneration, abundant and well-organized network of collagen fibres, and low numbers of inflammatory cells. To navigate in complex and unstructured real‐world environments, soft miniature robots need to possess multiple functions, including autonomous environmental sensing, self‐adaptation, and multimodal locomotion. However, to achieve multifunctionality, artificial soft robots should respond to multiple stimuli, which can be achieved by multimaterial integration using facile and flexible fabrication methods. Here, a multimaterial integration strategy for fabricating soft millirobots that uses electrodeposition to integrate two inherently non‐adherable materials, superhydrophilic hydrogels and superhydrophobic elastomers, together via gel roots is proposed. This approach enables the authors to electrodeposit sodium alginate hydrogel onto a laser‐induced graphene‐coated elastomer, which can then be laser cut into various shapes to function as multi‐stimuli‐responsive soft robots (MSRs). Each MSR can respond to six different stimuli to autonomously transform their shapes, and mimic flowers, vines, mimosas, and flytraps. It is demonstrated that MSRs can climb slopes, switch locomotion modes, self‐adapt between air‐liquid environments, and transport cargo between different environments. This multimaterial integration strategy enables creating untethered soft millirobots that have multifunctionality, such as environmental sensing, self‐propulsion, and self‐adaptation, paving the way for their future operation in complex real‐world environments. Proteins are abundant biomolecules found in human cells, as well as pathogenic bacteria and viruses. Some of them become pollutants when released into water. Adsorption is an advantageous method for separating proteins in aqueous media since proteins are already immobilized on solid surfaces. Adsorbents with surfaces rich in tannins are efficient due to their affinity for strong interactions with the various amino acids that make up proteins. This work aimed to develop an adsorbent for protein adsorption in aqueous medium using lignocellulosic materials modified from eucalyptus bark and vegetable tannins. A more efficient resin was prepared containing 10% eucalyptus bark fibers and 90% tannin mimosa by condensation with formaldehyde, and it was characterized by UV–Vis, FTIR-ATR spectroscopy and determinations of degree of swelling, bulk and bulk density and specific mass. For UV–Vis spectroscopy the percentage of condensed and hydrolysable tannins in the extracts of fibers of the dry husks of Eucalyptus Citriodora was estimated and it was also determined your soluble solids. The study of bovine serum albumin (BSA) adsorption was carried out in batch with quantification by UV–Vis spectroscopy. The most efficient prepared resin obtained 71.6 ± 2.78% removal in a solution of 260 mg L−1 of BSA working in a better pH range of the aqueous solution of BSA in its isoelectric point, ~ 5, 32 ± 0.02, under these conditions, the synthesized resin can reach a maximum BSA adsorption capacity of ~ 26.7 ± 0.29 mg g−1 in 7 min. The new synthesized resin presents good prospects for adsorption of proteins or species that in their structure have higher percentages of amino functional groups or amino acids with aliphatic, acidic and/or basic hydrophilic characteristics. Epicuticular waxes crystallize on the foliar surface with different morphologies, which can be taxonomically relevant features in many taxa. Their morphological analysis was based on scanning electron microscopy (SEM) images on herbarium specimens of selected sections of Mimosa. The present work is the first detailed description and classification of the epidermal micromorphology in the genus Mimosa, focusing on section Calothamnos and Mimosa series Mimosa, subseries Dolentes and Brevipedes. We also describe different wax crystallization morphologies present in these taxa, identifying three different crystallization types: film, plates, and platelets. Novel epidermal micromorphologies have been described, such as papillae in M. lepidorepens. Results allow grouping taxa of the studied sections, contributing to clarifying their taxonomy. This study was focused on nine rhizobial strains associated with Mimosa latispinosa, a fast-growing pioneer species native to the Mandena mining site and able to thrive on post-mining soils. The objectives were to: (i) evaluate the heavy metals tolerance of these isolates by comparing their growth on medium supplemented with different concentrations of heavy metals (Ni, Cd, Cu, and Pb); and (ii) screen the presence of the heavy metal resistance genes on the isolated DNA. While all the strains tested showed varying degrees of tolerance to the metals tested, significantly greater tolerance was observed for isolates RMN 4, RMN 5, RR 11 and RR 14. Regarding the presence of genes responsible for heavy metal resistance, only strains RMN 4, RMN 6 and RR 13 presented the specific amplicons in the case of pcoR gene amplification. The amplification of heavy metals resistance genes for other samples did not yield any specific PCR amplicons, probably due to the use of inappropriate primers or the presence of different mechanisms that allow them to survive under stress conditions. BackgroundCupriavidus strain STM 6070 was isolated from nickel-rich soil collected near Koniambo massif, New Caledonia, using the invasive legume trap host Mimosa pudica. STM 6070 is a heavy metal-tolerant strain that is highly effective at fixing nitrogen with M. pudica. Here we have provided an updated taxonomy for STM 6070 and described salient features of the annotated genome, focusing on heavy metal resistance (HMR) loci and heavy metal efflux (HME) systems.ResultsThe 6,771,773 bp high-quality-draft genome consists of 107 scaffolds containing 6118 protein-coding genes. ANI values show that STM 6070 is a new species of Cupriavidus. The STM 6070 symbiotic region was syntenic with that of the M. pudica-nodulating Cupriavidus taiwanensis LMG 19424T. In contrast to the nickel and zinc sensitivity of C. taiwanensis strains, STM 6070 grew at high Ni2+ and Zn2+ concentrations. The STM 6070 genome contains 55 genes, located in 12 clusters, that encode HMR structural proteins belonging to the RND, MFS, CHR, ARC3, CDF and P-ATPase protein superfamilies. These HMR molecular determinants are putatively involved in arsenic (ars), chromium (chr), cobalt-zinc-cadmium (czc), copper (cop, cup), nickel (nie and nre), and silver and/or copper (sil) resistance. Seven of these HMR clusters were common to symbiotic and non-symbiotic Cupriavidus species, while four clusters were specific to STM 6070, with three of these being associated with insertion sequences. Within the specific STM 6070 HMR clusters, three novel HME-RND systems (nieIC cep nieBA, czcC2B2A2, and hmxB zneAC zneR hmxS) were identified, which constitute new candidate genes for nickel and zinc resistance.ConclusionsSTM 6070 belongs to a new Cupriavidus species, for which we have proposed the name Cupriavidus neocaledonicus sp. nov.. STM6070 harbours a pSym with a high degree of gene conservation to the pSyms of M. pudica-nodulating C. taiwanensis strains, probably as a result of recent horizontal transfer. The presence of specific HMR clusters, associated with transposase genes, suggests that the selection pressure of the New Caledonian ultramafic soils has driven the specific adaptation of STM 6070 to heavy-metal-rich soils via horizontal gene transfer.

The origin of experimental chronobiology can be traced to observations made in the 18th and 19th centuries on the sensitive plant Mimosa, which were described in two seminal reports: Jean-Jacques d'Ortous de Mairan's " Observation Botanique " (A Botanical Observation) and Augustin Pyramus de Candolle's " Du sommeil des feuilles " (On the sleep of leaves). Both report observations of the striking daily closing and opening of Mimosa leaves in controlled environments. This review presents translations of both texts with the aim of staying as faithful as possible to the original French texts. We also present the historical context in which these texts were written and link them to subsequent experiments that aimed at testing the veracity of their central conclusions. In particular, we definitely establish that Mairan himself presented his work to the French Royal Academy of Sciences, while the published report of his observation was authored by Fontenelle, the Secretary of the Academy. In addition, we offer a translation of Mairan's own presentation, based on the hand-written minutes of the academy. Finally, we discuss the decades of work on plant rhythms that laid the foundation for modern experimental chronobiology, including translations and discussion of the insightful and prescient reports by Charles François de Cisternay Dufay, Henri Louis Duhamel du Monceau, Johann Gottfried Zinn, and Wilhelm Pfeffer, which describe their efforts to reproduce and extend Mairan's pioneering observations. Objective: To determine the structural and phenological characteristics of four major tree species in the tropical deciduous forests. Design/Methodology/Approach: To determine their structure, ≥10 cm wide trees were registered at a height of 1.30 m in 30 sites of 500 m². For phenological purposes, seven sites were selected. The following phenological stages were evaluated: dormancy, vegetative, flowering, fruiting, and seeding. Results: Four hundred and five individuals belonging to the four species under study were found: copal ancho (Bursera copallifera (Sessé & Moc.) ex DC. Bullock), Mexican kidneywood (Eysenhardtia polystachya (Ortega) Sarg.), tecolhuixtle (Mimosa benthamii (J.F. Macbr. var. bentha-mii)), and tepemezquite (Lysiloma divaricatum (Jacq.) Macbride). Tepemezquite ranked first according to the Relative Importance Value Index. Based on the phenological characteristics observed, three species lost foliage at some time of the year and only tecolhuixtle was evergreen. Study Limitations/Implications: The results and conclusions are limited only to individuals with ≥10 cm in diameter. Further results can be extrapolated from this data. Findings/Conclusions: The structural and phenological features of the four species evaluated in ejido El Limón have similar characteristics to those that have been described for this type of vegetation in other locations in Mexico. In Mimosa pudica plants, local and global responses to environmental stimuli are associated with different types of electrical activity. Non-damaging stimuli (e.g. cooling) generate action potentials (APs), whereas damaging stimuli (e.g. heating) are associated with variation potentials (VPs). Local cooling of Mimosa branches resulted in APs that propagated up to the branch-stem interface and caused drooping of the branch (local response). This electrical activation did not pass the interface. If the branch was triggered by heat, however, a VP was transferred to the stem and caused activation of the entire plant (global response). VPs caused by heat were always preceded by APs and summation of the two types of activation appeared to be necessary for the activation to pass the branch-stem interface. Mechanical cutting of leaves also resulted in VPs preceded by APs, but in those cases a time delay was present between the two activations, which prevented adequate summation and transmission of activation. Simultaneous cold-induced activation of a branch and the stem below the interface occasionally resulted in summation sufficient to activate the stem beyond the interface. To investigate the effect of activation delay on summation, a similar structure of excitable converging pathways, consisting of a star-shaped pattern of neonatal rat heart cells, was used. In this model, summation of activation was not hindered by a small degree of asynchrony. The observations indicate that summation occurs in excitable branching structures and suggest that summation of activation plays a role in the propagation of nocuous stimuli in Mimosa. Mimosa pigra is native to Tropical America, and it has naturalized in many other countries especially in Australia, Eastern and Southern Africa and South Asia. The species is listed in the top 100 of the world's worst invasive alien species and is listed as Least Concern in the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species. M. pigra forms very large monospecific stands in a wet–dry tropical climate with conditions such as floodplains, riverbanks, grasslands, forests and agricultural fields. The stands expand quickly and threaten the native flora and fauna in the invasive ranges. Possible mechanisms of the invasion of the species have been investigated and accumulated in the literature. The characteristics of the life history such as the high reproduction and high growth rate, vigorous mutualism with rhizobia and arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi, very few natural enemies, and allelopathy, and certain secondary metabolites may contribute to the invasiveness and naturalization of M. pigra. Herbicide application, such as aerial spraying, foliar, cut-stump and soil treatments, is the primary control methods of M. pigra. The investigation of the natural enemies of M. pigra has been conducted in its native ranges since 1979, and biological control agents have been selected based on host specificity, rearing and availability. Mechanical control practices, such as hand weeding, bulldozing, chaining and fire, were also effective. However, the species often regrow from the remaining plant parts. Integration of multiple weed control practices may be more effective than any single practice. This is the first review article focusing on the invasive mechanism of M. pigra. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Co-inoculation of microorganisms has been frequently used to promote greater plant growth in degraded soils. However, the use of this biotechnological strategy for the revegetation of soils contaminated by heavy metals in mining areas is still poorly understood. In our study, we analyzed the influence of the co-inoculation of rhizobia and arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF) on the initial growth of Mimosa caesalpiniaefolia and its tolerance to excessive manganese (Mn) in a soil degraded by mining. In an experiment in a greenhouse, the species M. caesalpiniaefolia was cultivated to evaluate the establishment potential considering the contribution of the co-inoculation of rhizobia and AMF together or in isolation. In addition, we use control plants, under ideal levels of nutrients. Co-inoculated plants showed greater tolerance to excessive Mn and had their initial growth stimulated. The highest mycorrhizal colonization rate (64%) was observed in the treatment with AMF alone, while the highest abundance of AMF spores in the soil (419.7) was found when the plants were co-inoculated. In addition to favoring the balance of nutrients in the plant and the use of nitrogen and phosphorus from the soil, co-inoculation also provided higher levels of Mn in the roots and lower levels of Mn in the shoot. Morphological and physiological changes, which helped the plants to withstand the excess of Mn in the soil, were also evidenced when they were co-inoculated. Taken together, our results suggest that co-inoculation in M. caesalpiniaefolia regulates toxicity, maximizes early growth, and increases tolerance to excessive Mn in soils degraded by mining. A new triterpenoid saponin (Mimonoside D: 3-O-α-L-arabinopyranosyl-3β-hydroxyolean-12-en-28-oic acid 28-O-β-D-xylopyranosyl-(1→2)-β-D- glucopyranoside ester (1)) was isolated from the aerial parts of Mimosa diplotricha Sauvalle together with nine known compounds: 7,4′-dihydroxyflavone (2), kaempferol (3), lupeol (4), betulinic acid (5), β-sitosterol (6), β-sitosterol-3-O-β-D-glucopyranoside (7), lutein (8), 5,2′-dihydroxy-7,4′,5′-trimethoxyflavone (9) and vitexin (10). Their structures were elucidated on the basis of spectroscopic (1 D and 2 D nuclear magnetic resonance) and high-resolution mass spectrometric data as well as by comparison of their spectral data with those of related compounds. Compounds 2, 7 and 8 had already been isolated from M. diplotricha, while compounds 3, 4, 5 and 6 have been isolated from other Mimosa species. Compound 2 moderately inhibited Proteus mirabilis (MIC = 32 µg/mL), weakly inhibited Pseudomonas aeruginosa (MIC = 64 µg/mL) and very weakly inhibited Staphylococcus aureus (MIC = 128 µg/mL) and Enterococus faecalis (MIC = 128 µg/mL). Parasitic plant species, such as holoparasites, develop exclusively within the tissues of their hosts, are devoid of photosynthetic capability, and cause changes in their hosts. In this study, we analyse the effects of the holoparasitic species Pilostyles blanchetii on Mimosa maguirei. We assessed the effects of the holoparasite on the architecture and development of the host plant through the height, the number of branches and the number of leaves. The influence of the holoparasite on the reproductive performance of the host was tested by evaluating the number of fruits and seeds produced by M. maguirei. The holoparasite Pilostyles blanchetii negatively affected the height of M. maguirei; however, there was a positive effect on the number of branches and leaves of the host, perhaps indicating resource manipulation by the holoparasite. In relation to reproductive performance, there was a reduction in the number of fruits and seeds in parasitized individuals. Overall, this study indicates strong changes in host plant architecture and particularly a reduction in the reproductive performance of parasitized plant individuals. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Full implementation of phylogenetic classifications remains pending, particularly to delimit infrageneric divisions of large genera. Mimosa, one of the largest genera of Fabaceae, includes five sections and 41 series, most of which are not monophyletic. Here we investigated the phylogenetic relationship among species of Mimosa series Pachycarpae and Setosae, two diverse series from the Brazilian Cerrado (savanna) Domain. We analysed morphological and molecular data for a wide taxonomic sample in a total-evidence approach. Our results show the non-monophyly of these series is more problematic than previously realized and extends to M. series Piresianae. Nonetheless, most taxa of M. series Pachycarpae and Setosae fall in a clade, which has an enlarged underground organ as one of its synapomorphies and an important functional trait underlying adaptation to fire in the Cerrado Domain. On the basis of these results, and after transferring some species to M. series Piresianae, we synonymize M. series Setosae under M. series Pachycarpae. These updates are a first step towards aligning the infrageneric classification of Mimosa with the tenets of phylogenetic systematics. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Tannins are well-known to protect plants from bacteria and fungi, but nothing is known about its effects on microorganisms once they are copolymerized. Therefore, a study was conducted to evaluate the effect of a tannin–furanic polymer in comparison with industrial mimosa tannin extract on the in vitro growth of two strains of bacteria, Bacillaceae and Pseudomanadaceae, and two white-rot fungi, Trametes versicolor and Agrocybe aegerita. Results have highlighted that the tannin polymer did not inhibit the growth of tested bacteria and even favored the growth of Bacillaceae without extra glucose. The growth of both fungi was enhanced by mimosa tannin and its polymer at low concentrations (<1%), while concentrations above 10% had a growth-inhibiting effect, which was slightly less strong for the polymer compared to the tannin against Trametes versicolor. These findings highlighted that tannin–furanic polymers can be tolerated by certain microorganisms at low concentration and that their inhibitory effect is similar or slightly lower than that of the pristine tannin extract. Mechanisms coordinating pancreatic β cell metabolism with insulin secretion are essential for glucose homeostasis. One key mechanism of β cell nutrient sensing uses the mitochondrial GTP (mtGTP) cycle. In this cycle, mtGTP synthesized by succinyl-CoA synthetase (SCS) is hydrolyzed via mitochondrial PEPCK (PEPCK-M) to make phosphoenolpyruvate, a high-energy metabolite that integrates TCA cycling and anaplerosis with glucose-stimulated insulin secretion (GSIS). Several strategies, including xenotopic overexpression of yeast mitochondrial GTP/GDP exchanger (GGC1) and human ATP and GTP-specific SCS isoforms, demonstrated the importance of the mtGTP cycle. These studies confirmed that mtGTP triggers and amplifies normal GSIS and rescues defects in GSIS both in vitro and in vivo. Increased mtGTP synthesis enhanced calcium oscillations during GSIS. mtGTP also augmented mitochondrial mass, increased insulin granule number, and membrane proximity without triggering de-differentiation or metabolic fragility. These data highlight the importance of the mtGTP signal in nutrient sensing, insulin secretion, mitochondrial maintenance, and β cell health.

Formic acid is known as a fixing agent in vegetable tanning process but this material is corrosive and irritant. Citric acid has the potential to be developed as an alternative fixing agent. This research aims to study the ability of citric acid as an alternative fixing agent in the tanning process, especially vegetable tanning of goatskin. The tanning process was carried out by the drum method. Pickled goatskins were tanned with mimosa and then fixed with citric acid. The concentration of citric acid varied from 1%; 1.5%; 2%; 2.5%; to 3%, to determine the optimum concentration. A fixing agent of 2% formic acid was used as a control. The results show that the control skin had similar characteristics to the treated skin. Physical properties of T4 have met the standard of SNI 0253-2009. It can be concluded that the optimal concentration of citric acid that can be used as an alternative fixing agent in vegetable tanning process of goatskin is 2.5%. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Three new species of Mimosa endemic to the Brazilian Cerrado biodiversity hotspot are described and illustrated. Mimosa cavalcantina, M. gustavoi and M. venosa are assigned to subser. Polycephalae for having its diagnotic morphology, including unarmed branches, leaves with a pair of pinnae, a fimbriate paleaceous calyx, and filaments shortly monadelpous at the base. We summarize geographic distributions, habitats, phenology, and conservation status for each of the new species, compare them with morphologically similar congeners, and discuss their systematic positions. Assessing variations in tree allometry is useful for understanding height growth strategies in relation to life-history trajectories, light competition and environmental restrictions. Scaling exponent and asymptotic heights obtained from height–diameter (HD) models may elucidate how trees optimise growth strategies and the potential drivers that influence tree height. Our main objective was to explore how the HD relationship in Bracatinga (Mimosa scabrella) varies along stands chronosequence and life history. The study was carried out in discontinuous stands located across the metropolitan region of Curitiba, southern Brazil. We used HD data from 300 temporary plots in chronosequences dating from a disturbance, which represented stand development after intervention, covering the life history of the species. Power and exponential models were fitted to data to describe the HD relationship over time. Mixed-effects models were applied to explain the height variations by stand characteristics. We found that tree height and allometry were influenced by stand development phase and tree life stage along the chronosequence. Changes in tree height were also driven by light competition related to certain stand characteristics, such as basal area, stem density and species diversity. We concluded that growth strategies are conditioned by interactions between light requirements along a tree's life history and successional stand evolution. The results revealed that gradual changes in tree development might be recognised by stationary data along chronosequences. Quantifying changes in HD allometry has ecological and practical applications for explaining the strategies and drivers underpinning tree growth and providing useful knowledge for improving growing stock predictions and stand management. Aims: To evaluate the occurrence, the characterization and identity of nodulating bacteria in symbiosis with Mimosa spp. in the ultramafic massif of Barro Alto, Goiás state, Brazil. Methods: Nodules from field grown M. somnians and M. claussenii were sampled for bacteria isolation and in situ detection using microscopy. Isolates were characterized for their nodulation capacity on M. pudica and common bean, and their tolerance to Ni in culture medium. Bacteria were also partially identified by their 16S rRNA gene sequences. In addition, recA, gyrB, nodC and nifH genes from five representative isolates were sequenced for phylogenetic studies. Results: In situ detection indicated the exclusive presence of Paraburkholderia sp. within the nodules. This identification was confirmed for most of the isolates by the analysis of their 16S rRNA gene sequences. All isolates identified as Paraburkholderia sp. were able to effectively nodulate M. pudica, but those tested in common bean produced ineffective nodules. Inoculation tests showed that these bacteria improved M. pudica growth in the absence of nitrogen. None of the isolates showed Ni tolerance. The concatenated 16S rRNA, recA and gyrB, and the nodC and nifH genes sequences demonstrated that the five selected isolates were closely related to P. atlantica. Conclusions: This is the first report of Paraburkholderia present in nodules from Mimosa plants naturally growing in ultramafic soils. These results suggest that this symbiosis may be a factor to be considered as part of programs to restore ultramafic soils in Barro Alto areas degraded by mining activity. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Search for inhibitors to insect proteases is one of many strategies to control pests. Previous work has demonstrated successful purification of effective inhibitors from plant origin. Thus, the current study attempted to purify protease inhibitors from locally available medicinal plants. The study demonstrated that the ethanolic extracts of Mimosa diplotricha leaves caused a significant 80% reduction in bovine trypsin activity. The inhibitory property of the proteinaceous nature of the extract was reconfirmed through qualitative analysis using the detection of trypsin inhibitors on the SDS-PAGE technique. The ammonium precipitated trypsin inhibitor was purified using Hi-Trap G25 and resolved into a single band with a molecular weight of approximately 20.8 kDa. By using the Dixon plot the competitive inhibitor has a Ki value of 2.16 × 10-4 mM. The purified protein inhibited the protease extract of Chrysomya megacephala at IC50 of 28 μg/mL. The results highlighted the presence of trypsin inhibitor in Mimosa diplotricha and its potential as a pest control agent. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
