Background and Objectives: The main aim of this study was to evaluate the impact of cervical pain on the quality of life of patients with multiple sclerosis in comparison with a group of healthy people (without diseases of the Central Nervous System). Materials and Methods: Data were collected at the Specialist Hospital St. Łukasz in Końskie (Poland) in the period from November 2023 to August 2024. The inclusion criteria for this study were as follows: age (20–50 years), women and men, healthy people (without diseases of the Central Nervous System) and people suffering from multiple sclerosis. People from the study group were diagnosed according to the McDonald criteria and tested with the EDSS. The mobility of the cervical spine was measured, and neck pain was assessed using the following: Visual Analogue Scale (VAS), Laitinen Scale and the Neck Disability Index (NDI). All participants self-assessed their quality of life using EuroQol 5D-5L (EQ-5D-5L). Results: 80 people took part in this study, the vast majority of whom were women (71.3%). The most common form of multiple sclerosis was relapsing-remitting (75.0%), and the average EDSS score was higher in the male group (1.6 ± 1.8). Cervical spine pain was reported by 27 people from the study group (67.5%) and 16 people from the control group (40.0%). In both groups, the cervical spine mobility was lower in people with neck pain. The level of cervical spine pain was statistically significantly (p < 0.05) higher in women, people living in small towns and in people with multiple sclerosis, depending on the type of disease and its duration. Cervical spine pain in people with multiple sclerosis was higher in all three scales (VAS mean = 5.7, ES = 0.79; Laitinen Scale mean = 10.1, ES = 0.60; and NDI Scale mean = 21.1, ES = 0.89). The study group obtained significantly higher scores on the EQ-5D scale (mean = 15.3; ES = 0.79) and EQ-VAS (mean = 53.2; ES = 0.94). Conclusions: This study proved that cervical spine pain is more common among people with multiple sclerosis. In these people, this problem is rarely diagnosed and properly treated. Background: Modern technologies are being applied to maintain and improve the functional performance of older adults. Fully immersive virtual reality (VR) combined with a scope of dual-task (DT) activities may effectively complement conventional physiotherapy programmes for seniors. The study aimed to compare the effectiveness of a fully immersive virtual reality (VR) environment combined with a scope of dual-task activities regarding balance in older women. Methods: Eighty women were recruited to the study protocol and, following randomisation, allocated to two equally sized groups, one pursuing conventional OTAGO exercises, the other one the VR-solutions-aided exercise programme combined with a scope of DT activities. Physiotherapy sessions spanned 6 weeks, each one lasting 60 min, three times a week, in both groups. Results: Homogeneity analysis of both study groups indicated no statistically significant differences at the first measurement point. After the intervention, both study groups achieved significantly improved scores on all tests. The VR + DT group obtained better results in dual-task gait and single-leg standing, whereas the greatest difference was observed during SLS CL (1.52 s vs. 2.33 s—difference 0.81 s 53.2% change, p = 0.001). The OTAGO group performed better in the TUG single-task gait (11.35 s vs. 12.60 s, p < 0.001) and in the Berg balance scale. Conclusions: The VR + DT training is effective in improving individual balance as well as in reducing fall risks. VR-assisted physiotherapy should complement conventional physiotherapy programmes (e.g., OTAGO). The benefits of applying VR solutions indicate that older women might well use this form of activity regularly under the guidance of a therapist or a family member. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Summary: The rat's model evaluated the function of sprouted beans enriched with probiotic Lactiplantibacillus plantarum 299v in alleviating dyslipidaemia, inflammation and disturbed redox homeostasis caused by a high‐lard diet. Sprouted beans improved the total antioxidant capacity of serum and liver, regardless of whether the feeds had a higher content of low‐molecular antioxidants or were additionally enriched with probiotics. The reduction of inflammation (lowered level of C‐reactive protein) and restoration of triglycerides and total cholesterol to the levels recorded in the control group (AIN‐93M) were especially observed in the group supplemented with the control adzuki bean. Introducing sprouted legumes (both the control and probiotic‐rich) improved microbiota activity affected by a high‐lard diet. The highest, desirable reduction of urease (by 80%) and tryptophanase (by 78%) activity was found in the groups fed with probiotic‐rich adzuki and mung bean sprouts respectively. Sprouted beans improve the metabolism of individuals subjected to a diet with an increased fat‐to‐carbohydrate energy ratio, especially concerning oxidative stress injury and microbiota activity. Objectives: The use of internet-based search engines for health information is very popular and common. The Internet has become an important source of health information and has a considerable impact on patient's decision making process. Knowledge of pregnant women about childbirth comes from health professionals and personal experiences described by friends or family members. There is a growing interest in digital sources used by pregnant women. Analysis of queries related to regarding to natural childbirth and cesarean section in the Google search engine. Material and methods: In this infodemiology, descriptive study tool "AlsoAsked" was used. This is a tool for analyzing data appearing in Google search results. "AlsoAsked" search was conducted on April 19, 2023. Search phrases "natural childbirth" and "cesarean section" in polish language were used. Questions that were typed into the Google search engine, ranked according to popularity (volume) and thematic connections have been discussed. Results: The most frequently asked questions were related to the course and duration of labor as well as the preparation for labor and cesarean section (CS). Comparison between a natural labour and CS in the context of safety and pain received a great deal of attention. Conclusions: The most popular questions regarding CS were related to elective CS and indications for it. Some questions concerned the connection between labor and clinical state of a newborn. Women's healthcare should include education about the possibility of incorrect information provided by the Internet Web sites and information about trustworthy Web sites. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Research was carried out on the impact of long-term use of cattle manure (30 t ha−1 FYM) and various doses of N (0, 40, 60 and 120 t ha−1) in the form of ammonium nitrate on the following soil parameters: salinity, hydrolytic acidity, total exchangeable base cations, cation exchange capacity, degree of base saturation of the sorption complex, total organic carbon and total nitrogen content, dissolved organic matter, fractional composition of organic matter and content of bioavailable macroelements: phosphorus, potassium and magnesium in the soil of a multi-year static field experiment. The activities of dehydrogenases, catalase, alkaline and acid phosphatase and proteases were also tested. A significant effect of FYM and N fertilisation on the content of bioavailable macroelements was found. The application of manure at a dose of 30 t ha−1 mitigated the negative effects of the application of N at a dose of 120 kg ha−1. A higher content of total organic carbon (8.42 g kg−1) and humic acid fraction (1761 mg kg−1) and higher values of the CHA/CFA ratio (0.79; parameters that are indicators of soil quality) were found in the soil fertilised with manure compared to the soil without manure added (TOC—7.00 g kg−1; CHAs—1285 mg kg−1; CHAs/CFAs 0.66). The activity of the tested enzymes was also significantly determined by the applied fertilisation. Enzyme activity was highest in the soil to which manure had been applied. Nitrogen fertilisation varied in its impact on the activity of enzymes according to the specifics of each enzyme. The content of humic acids and CHA/CFA values correlated positively with the content of soil minerals and the activity of dehydrogenases, catalase, alkaline and acid phosphatase and GMea and TEI indices. The idea of this study was the estimation of the theoretical acute toxicity (t-LD50, rat, oral dose) of organophosphorus-based chemical warfare agents from the G-series (n = 12) using different in silico methods. Initially identified in Germany, the G-type nerve agents include potent compounds such as tabun, sarin, and soman. Despite their historical significance, there is a noticeable gap in acute toxicity data for these agents. This study employs qualitative (STopTox and AdmetSAR) and quantitative (TEST; CATMoS; ProTox-II and QSAR Toolbox) in silico methods to predict LD50 values, offering an ethical alternative to animal testing. Additionally, we conducted quantitative extrapolation from animals, and the results of qualitative tests confirmed the acute toxicity potential of these substances and enabled the identification of toxicophoric groups. According to our estimations, the most lethal agents within this category were GV, soman (GD), sarin (GB), thiosarin (GBS), and chlorosarin (GC), with t-LD50 values (oral administration, extrapolated from rat to human) of 0.05 mg/kg bw, 0.08 mg/kg bw, 0.12 mg/kg bw, 0.15 mg/kg bw, and 0.17 mg/kg bw, respectively. On the contrary, compounds with a cycloalkane attached to the phospho-oxygen linkage, specifically methyl cyclosarin and cyclosarin, were found to be the least toxic, with values of 2.28 mg/kg bw and 3.03 mg/kg bw. The findings aim to fill the knowledge gap regarding the acute toxicity of these agents, highlighting the need for modern toxicological methods that align with ethical considerations, next-generation risk assessment (NGRA) and the 3Rs (replacement, reduction and refinement) principles. Introduction: Breastfeeding women often face the dilemma of whether they can drink coffee and, if so, in what quantity. The European Food Safety Authority recommends a daily intake of 200 mg of caffeine for lactating women. It is assumed that 1 cup of black coffee provides from 70 to 140 mg of caffeine. Aim: The article outlines surveyed women's understanding of coffee consumption safety during breastfeeding and current recommendations. Material and methods: The study used an original questionnaire. 630 women aged 18-44 took part in the survey. The level of knowledge regarding the diet of a breastfeeding mother was examined, with particular emphasis on the aspect of coffee. Results: Most of the surveyed women -- 408 (64.8%) answered that drinking coffee is allowed while breastfeeding. However, only over 1/3 of respondents (34.9%) indicate that there is a limit to the amount of coffee consumed during lactation and it should not be more than 1-2 cups a day. The study showed no relationship between women's knowledge and the use of advice from a certified lactation consultant (p = 0.472). Conclusions: Most surveyed women correctly indicate coffee as a drink allowed during lactation. However, they are not aware of the limitations associated with it. The lack of this knowledge may be because mostly they hear about the diet of breastfeeding mothers from their families rather than from medical professionals. Using advice from a certified lactation consultant among respondents was not associated with having more detailed knowledge about drinking coffee during lactation. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
