Simple Summary: In addressing the challenge of managing small renal masses, this study explored the efficacy of single-probe percutaneous cryoablation as a potential solution. The primary objective was to assess the procedure's impact on recurrence rates, particularly in relation to Renal nephrometry scores. Analysis of results from 26 renal tumors treated with this method revealed promising outcomes, with recurrence rates influenced by the aforementioned scores. The findings suggest that single-probe cryoablation is a promising modality, particularly when considering its cost-effectiveness and ergonomic advantages over traditional multi-needle argon-based cryotherapy. In conclusion, this novel technique offers potential benefits in treating small renal masses, emphasizing the need for further refinement and research. Kidney cancer accounts for 3% of adult malignancies and is increasingly detected through advanced imaging techniques, highlighting the need for effective treatment strategies. This retrospective study assessed the safety and efficacy of a new single-probe percutaneous cryoablation system using liquid nitrogen for treating T1a renal cancers. From May 2019 to May 2022, 25 consecutive patients from two academic hospitals, with a median age of 64.8 years [IQR 59; 75.5], underwent cryoablation for 26 T1a renal tumors. These tumors had a median size of 25.3 mm [20; 30.7] and a median RENAL nephrometry score, indicating tumor complexity, of 7 [5; 9]. No major complications arose, but three non-clinically relevant perirenal hematomas were detected on post-procedure CT scans. With a median follow-up of 795 days [573; 1020], the primary local control rate at one month stood was 80.8% (21 out of 26). The five recurrent lesions, which exhibited a higher renal score (p = 0.016), were treated again using cryoablation, achieving a secondary local control rate of 100%. No patient died, and the disease-free survival rate was 92% (23 out of 25). In conclusion, single-probe percutaneous cryoablation emerges as a promising modality for managing small renal masses. Background: Local recurrence after radiation therapy for prostate cancer is a major clinical issue. Various local treatments are available with mitigated functional and oncological outcomes. The aim of the present study was to evaluate perioperative and oncological results of salvage cryotherapy (CT) as treatment of local recurrence of prostate cancer. Methods: We retrospectively reviewed all patients treated with hemi-prostatic salvage CT for local recurrence of prostate cancer in 1 academic hospital between November 2011 and April 2019. Local recurrence was defined according to the Phoenix criteria (prostate-specific antigen [PSA] nadir + 2 ng/mL), associated with a prostatic MRI target lesion and confirmed by biopsy. Perioperative and functional complications were collected. Cox regression was conducted to assess factors associated with time to initiation of androgen deprivation therapy (ADT). Statistical analyses were conducted using R Studio. Results: A total of 29 patients were treated with an average follow-up of 37.6 months. Median age at CT was 77 years. Median PSA before CT was 5.1 ng/mL (min-max: 2.74–18). 17.2% of patients displayed a high D'Amico risk group. Median hospital stay was 1.4 days. Four patients (13.8%) experienced postoperative acute urinary retention. Nineteen patients (65.5%) experienced late functional complications (3 erectile dysfunctions, 3 stress incontinence, and 13 urinary frequency). Fourteen patients displayed recurrence after salvage treatment (48.2%). Median time to introduction of ADT was 15.1 months. ADT-free survival at 1 and 2 years was, respectively, 74% and 61%. In multivariate analysis, ISUP score 4 and PSA nadir <1 ng/mL after CT were significantly associated with time to ADT initiation. Conclusions: Salvage focal CT may delay the use of ADT in locally recurrent prostate cancer after RT and offers an alternative for eligible patients. Objective: To improve endoscopic recognition of the most frequently encountered urinary stone morphologies for a better aetiological approach in lithiasis by urologists. Materials and Methods: An expert urologist intraoperatively and prospectively (between June 2015 and June 2018) examined the surface, the section, and the nucleus of all encountered kidney stones. Fragmented stones were subsequently analysed by a biologist based on both microscopic morphological (i.e. binocular magnifying glass) and infrared (i.e. Fourier transform‐infrared spectroscopy) examinations (microscopists were blinded to the endoscopic data). Morphological criteria were collected and classified for the endoscopic and microscopic studies. The Wilcoxon–Mann–Whitney test was used to detect differences between the endoscopic and microscopic diagnoses. A diagnosis for a given urinary stone was considered 'confirmed' for a non‐statistically significant difference. Results: A total of 399 urinary stones were included in this study: 51.4% of the stones had only one morphological type, while 48.6% were mixed stones (41% had at least two morphologies and 7.6% had three morphologies). The overall matching rate was 81.6%. Diagnostics were confirmed for the following morphologies: whewellite (Ia or Ib), weddellite (IIa or IIb), uric acid (IIIa or IIIb), carbapatite‐struvite association (IVb), and brushite (IVd). Conclusions: Our preliminary study demonstrates the feasibility of using endoscopic morphology for the most frequently encountered urinary stones and didactic boards of confirmed endoscopic images are provided. The present study constitutes the first step toward endoscopic stone recognition, which is essential in lithiasis. Introduction: To assess the use of the 2016 proposed classification of the renal papillary abnormalities during flexible ureteroscopy that aims to standardize their description. Patients and methods: We performed a prospective monocentric single operator collection of the data using this classification during 88 consecutive flexible ureteroscopies required for renal stones treatment. Outcome measurements and statistical analysis: data of stones analysis (microscopy and infrared spectrophotometry) and of serum and urines biochemical samples have been compared with the results of the classified endoscopic descriptions. Results: Mean duration of description was 81.4 s. We reported that 83% of the patients had Randall plaques (RP), as only 4.5% of the patients had no abnormality. Concerning the papillary stones and anchored stones were observed in 30.7% and aspect of intraductal crystallization (Sc) in 15.9%. Erosions were present in 55.7% and extrophic papillae in 8%. Sa1 and Pa2 were significantly correlated to RP, anchored stones (Sa) to papillary erosions and calcium phosphate stones to intraductal crystallization. Hypercalciuria was significantly higher in Sa2 than Sa1 stones. Conclusions: The different descriptions in the 2016 classification were confirmed by the results of this study. Papillary abnormalities are consequences of stones development. Their descriptions could also improve the follow-up and the diagnosis of a metabolic lithogenesis. We recommend their systematic description during ureteroscopy. Some improvements are proposed to update this classification. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
