Body condition score (BCS) is a categorical variable that is widely accepted as an important tool for subjectively quantifying energy reserves in dairy cows. The aims of this study was to compare milk production and some metabolic parameters of crossbred dairy cows with low, adequate and high BCS in the recent postpartum period (PPP). This study included lactation data from 35 crossbred Girolando (Holstein × Gir) cows from calving to 90 days in milk. Cows were evaluated every 15 days for BCS, milk production, live weight, internal angle of the rump (IAR) and serum concentration of ?-hydroxybutyrate (ßHB). BCS loss and nadir of the BCS in PPP were also evaluated. Cows were divided into 3 groups, as follows: High, Adequate and Low BCS, according to the BCS recommendation for cows with less than 100 days in lactation. Cows with Adequate BCS had higher milk production than cows with High BCS (P = 0.01). Cows with High BCS had the highest (P < 0.001) live weight, BCS and IAR among the groups. In addition, these cows had a higher serum ßHB concentration than cows with Adequate BCS (P = 0.001) and had the greatest loss of BCS (P < 0.001) in the PPP. The results of this study showed that Girolando dairy cows with Adequate BCS at calving had higher milk production and better metabolic condition than cows with High BCS at calving. O escore de condição corporal (ECC) é uma variável categórica amplamente aceita como uma importante ferramenta para quantificar subjetivamente as reservas energéticas em vacas leiteiras. O objetivo deste estudo foi comparar a produção de leite e alguns parâmetros metabólicos de vacas leiteiras mestiças com baixo, adequado e alto ECC no período pós-parto (PPP) recente. Este estudo incluiu dados de lactação de 35 vacas mestiças Girolando (Holandês × Gir) do parto aos 90 dias de lactação. As vacas foram avaliadas a cada 15 dias quanto ao ECC, a produção de leite, o peso vivo, o ângulo interno da garupa (AIG) e a concentração sérica de ?-hidroxibutirato (ßHB). Também foram avaliados a perda de ECC e o nadir do ECC no PPP. As vacas foram divididas em 3 grupos, Alto, Adequado e Baixo ECC, de acordo com a recomendação de ECC para vacas com menos de 100 dias em lactação. Vacas com ECC adequado apresentaram maior produção de leite que vacas com ECC alto (P = 0,01). Vacas com alto ECC apresentaram o maior (P < 0,001) peso vivo, ECC e o AIG entre os grupos. Além disso, essas vacas apresentaram maior concentração sérica de ßHB do que vacas com ECC Adequado (P = 0,001) e apresentaram a maior perda de ECC (P < 0,001). Os resultados deste estudo demonstraram que vacas Girolando com ECC adequado ao parto apresentaram maior produção de leite e melhor condição metabólica em relação às vacas com alto ECC ao parto. El objetivo de este estudio fue comparar la producción de leche y algunos parámetros metabólicos de vacas lecheras mestizas con CC baja, adecuada y alta en el posparto reciente (PP). Este estudio incluyó datos de lactancia de 35 vacas Girolando (Holstein × Gir) desde el parto hasta los 90 días de lactancia. Las vacas fueron evaluadas cada 15 días para CC, producción de leche, peso vivo, ángulo interno de la grupa (AIG) y concentración sérica de ?-hidroxibutirato (ßHB). También se evaluaron la pérdida de CC y el nadir de CC en PP. Las vacas se dividieron en 3 grupos, CC Alta, Adecuada y Baja, de acuerdo con la recomendación de CC para vacas con menos de 100 días de lactancia. The rational use of water while considering the increases in food production is a great challenge for agriculture currently. The aim of the present study was to evaluate the soil properties of rice paddy areas under different water management systems. For this, the rice cultivars BRS Tropical and IRGA 424 were grown under the following treatments: M1: Intermittent flooding; M2: Intermittent flooding, followed by continuous flooding; M3: Continuous flooding, followed by intermittent flooding; and M4: Continuous flooding for the entire plant cycle. As a control, a non-cultivated area, adjacent to the experimental plots was also evaluated. The variables analyzed were P, K+, Ca2+, Mg2+ and Al3+ contents, pH, soil organic carbon (SOC), total nitrogen (TN) Carbon Stock (C-Stock), nitrogen stock (N-Stock), Cation-exchange capacity (CEC), C/N ratio; CO2 emission, soil microbial biomass carbon (SMB), metabolic coefficient (qMic) and acid phosphatase and urease activities. There was not difference among the different water management systems for P, K+, Mg2+, CEC and C/N ratio. The SMB and the acid phosphatase and urease activities were lower under the different treatments when compared to the control. The CO2 emission under rice paddy system was influenced by the phenological phase of the crop. The variables SOC, C-Stock, SMB, C/N ratio, K+, acid phosphatase and usease activities are those most sensitive attributes observed in the soil under different water management systems during rice cultivation. The adoption of industrial cyber-physical systems is facing several challenges, with artificial intelligence and self-organization techniques assuming critical aspects to be considered in the deployment of such solutions to support the dynamic evolution and adaptation to condition changes. This paper describes the implementation of a modular, flexible and self-organized cyber-physical conveyor system build up with different individual modular and intelligent transfer modules. For this purpose, multi-agent systems are used to distribute intelligence among transfer modules supporting pluggability and modularity, complemented with self-organization capabilities to achieve a truly self-reconfigurable system. The research summarized and validated the individual selection of camu-camu (Myrciaria dubia (Kunth) McVaugh) plants. 43 progenies, previously selected in genetic tests and fields of producers of flood areas, were evaluated. Each progeny was installed in a row of 10 half-sister plants, with a space of 3x2 m. Using the SELEGEN (Reml / Blup) Model 63 program, four crops were analyzed, and individuals were selected for each of the 16 descriptors evaluated. For fruit yield, the Tipishca-Río Tigre population stood out, occupying 5 of the first 10 places. The individuals TT0725-4 (Tigre-Tipishca) turned out to be a natural recombinant for fruit yield / weight. And individual 64-8 turned out to be triple recombinant (yield / fruit weight / ascorbic acid). The descriptors with the highest genetic control with r ≥ 0.30 were: average fruit weight, brix degrees, plant height, number of basal branches and petiole length. The criteria of similarity of the morphological markers with the fruit yield are proposed as predictive indexes of productivity. The plant height at two years of age was the most important. Background: Pseudomonas aeruginosa (PA) is a common microorganism related to severe exacerbations in Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD). However, their role in COPD patients with frequent hospitalized exacerbations (FHE) is not well described. Objectives: We aimed to determine prevalence, risk factors, susceptibility patterns and impact on outcomes of PA in COPD patients with FHE. Methods: Prospective observational multicentre study that included COPD patients with FHE. The cohort was stratified in 2 groups according to the presence or absence of PA isolation in sputum. Patients were followed up for 12 months. Results: We enrolled 207 COPD patients with FHE. In 119 patients (57%), a valid sputum culture was collected. Of them, PA was isolated in 21 patients (18%). The risk factors associated with PA were prior use of systemic corticosteroids (OR 3.3, 95% CI 1.2-9.7, p = 0.01) and prior isolation of PA (OR 4.36, 95% CI 1.4-13.4, p < 0.01). Patients with PA had an increased risk of having ≥3 readmissions (OR 4.1, 95% CI 1.3-12.8, p = 0.01) and higher PA isolation rate (OR 7.7, 95% CI 2.4-24.6, p < 0.001) during the follow-up period. In 14 patients (67%), PA was resistant to at least one antibiotic tested. PA persisted in the sputum in 70% of patients. Conclusions: The presence of PA was related to 3 or more readmissions during the 1-year follow-up and PA persisted in the sputum despite an appropriate antibiotic treatment. This finding suggested an important role of PA in the course of the disease of COPD patients with FHE.

Importance: An intraoperative higher level of positive end-expiratory positive pressure (PEEP) with alveolar recruitment maneuvers improves respiratory function in obese patients undergoing surgery, but the effect on clinical outcomes is uncertain. Objective: To determine whether a higher level of PEEP with alveolar recruitment maneuvers decreases postoperative pulmonary complications in obese patients undergoing surgery compared with a lower level of PEEP. Design, Setting, and Participants: Randomized clinical trial of 2013 adults with body mass indices of 35 or greater and substantial risk for postoperative pulmonary complications who were undergoing noncardiac, nonneurological surgery under general anesthesia. The trial was conducted at 77 sites in 23 countries from July 2014-February 2018; final follow-up: May 2018. Interventions: Patients were randomized to the high level of PEEP group (n = 989), consisting of a PEEP level of 12 cm H2O with alveolar recruitment maneuvers (a stepwise increase of tidal volume and eventually PEEP) or to the low level of PEEP group (n = 987), consisting of a PEEP level of 4 cm H2O. All patients received volume-controlled ventilation with a tidal volume of 7 mL/kg of predicted body weight. Main Outcomes and Measures: The primary outcome was a composite of pulmonary complications within the first 5 postoperative days, including respiratory failure, acute respiratory distress syndrome, bronchospasm, new pulmonary infiltrates, pulmonary infection, aspiration pneumonitis, pleural effusion, atelectasis, cardiopulmonary edema, and pneumothorax. Among the 9 prespecified secondary outcomes, 3 were intraoperative complications, including hypoxemia (oxygen desaturation with Spo2 ≤92% for >1 minute). Results: Among 2013 adults who were randomized, 1976 (98.2%) completed the trial (mean age, 48.8 years; 1381 [69.9%] women; 1778 [90.1%] underwent abdominal operations). In the intention-to-treat analysis, the primary outcome occurred in 211 of 989 patients (21.3%) in the high level of PEEP group compared with 233 of 987 patients (23.6%) in the low level of PEEP group (difference, -2.3% [95% CI, -5.9% to 1.4%]; risk ratio, 0.93 [95% CI, 0.83 to 1.04]; P =.23).
