Context: Ankle sprains are a common injury in sports, for which use of external ankle support during rehabilitation has been suggested to improve clinical outcomes. Design: Cohort study. Methods: Thirteen soccer players experiencing acute lateral ankle sprain injury were provided a novel adaptive ankle brace or conventional ankle taping (control) as external ankle support throughout the injury rehabilitation process. All other clinical procedures were identical, and rehabilitation was supervised by the same team staff member. Time from injury to clearance to return to sport was tracked. Player experience with the ankle brace also was queried via electronic surveys. Results: The median time to return to sport was less for the Brace group (52.5 d) compared to the Control group (79.5 d), but the distributions of the 2 groups were not found to differ significantly (P =.109). Player surveys indicated they felt the brace to be comfortable or very comfortable, with better freedom of movement than other braces and the same freedom of movement as wearing no brace. All players reported wearing the brace to be the same or better experience as ankle taping. Discussion: These preliminary results indicate that the adaptive ankle brace is at least as effective as ankle taping for providing external support during the rehabilitation phase following acute lateral ankle sprain and suggest it may be a more effective ankle support solution in terms of patient compliance than conventional bracing or taping. Context: The best current evidence supports the effectiveness of neuromuscular training in reducing the risk of injury; however, the rate of anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injuries is still high. Neurocognitive training (NT) has successfully improved biomechanical risk factors, but they have been considered in only a few studies. Objective: To review the literature to determine the effect of NT on biomechanical risk factors related to ACL injury in athletes. Evidence Acquisition: We searched PubMed, Google Scholar, Scopus, Science Direct, and the Physiotherapy Evidence Database from inception to August 2011. We included randomized controlled trials that used motor learning approaches and injury prevention programs to investigate kinematic and kinetic risk factors related to ACL injury. The quality of each clinical trial study was evaluated by the Physiotherapy Evidence Database scale. The eligibility criteria were checked based on the PICOS (population, intervention, comparison, outcome, and study type) framework. Evidence Synthesis: A total of 9 studies were included in the final analysis. Motor learning approaches include internal and external focus of attention, dual tasks, visual motor training, self-control feedback, differential learning, and linear and nonlinear pedagogy, combined with exercise programs. In most of the studies that used NT, a significant decrease in knee valgus; tibial abduction and external rotation; ground reaction force; and an increase in knee-, trunk-, hip-, and knee-flexion moment was observed. Conclusion: In classical NT, deviation from the ideal movement pattern especially emphasizing variability and self-discovery processes is functional in injury prevention and may mitigate biomechanical risk factors of ACL injuries in athletes. Practitioners are advised to use sport-specific cognitive tasks in combination with neuromuscular training to simulate loads of the competitive environment. Purpose: To explore how the change-point method can be used to analyze complex longitudinal data and detect when meaningful changes (change points) have occurred during rehabilitation. Method: This design is a prospective single-case observational study of a football player in a professional club who sustained an acute lower-limb muscle injury during high-speed running in training. The rehabilitation program was entirely completed in the football club under the supervision of the club's medical team. Four wellness metrics and 5 running-performance metrics were collected before the injury and until the player returned to play. Results: Data were collected over 130 days. In the univariate analysis, the change points for stress, sleep, mood, and soreness were located on days 30, 47, 50, and 50, respectively. The change points for total distance, acceleration, maximum speed, deceleration, and high-speed running were located on days 32, 34, 37, 41, and 41, respectively. The multivariate analysis resulted in a single change point for the wellness metrics and running-performance metrics, on days 50 and 67, respectively. Conclusions: The univariate approach provided information regarding the sequence and time point of the change points. The multivariate approach provided a common change point for multiple metrics, information that would benefit clinicians to have a broad overview of the changes in the rehabilitation process. Context and Objectives: Respiratory muscle training (RMT) is considered an effective tool to improve cardiorespiratory limitations in athletes. The goals of this systematic review were to explore the role of RMT and its implementation within sport rehabilitation programs in para-athletes. Evidence Acquisition: Several databases were searched until January 2024. Eligible studies were independently reviewed by 2 reviewers. Quality assessment was made using the PEDro scale and version 2 of the Cochrane Risk-of-Bias Tool for Randomized Trials. Eight studies (a total of 108 participants) were selected for the analysis. Evidence Synthesis: Five studies preferred using resistive loading, while 2 studies used normocapnic hyperpnea, and 1 study used threshold inspiratory muscle training. Respiratory functions (respiratory muscle strength and endurance, spirometry measures) and exercise performance were assessed as the main outcomes. Significant increases in respiratory muscle strength were reported in 5 studies. Two studies observed improvement in respiratory muscle endurance and 3 studies reported increased exercise capacity. Conclusions: This review suggests that although RMT can enhance respiratory muscle strength and endurance, it should not be considered the primary method for boosting the exercise performance of para-athletes. Context: Imbalances in upper-extremity soft tissue stiffness may play a role in the development of shoulder and elbow musculoskeletal injuries in tennis players. Ultrasound shear wave elastography provides quantifiable and specific data regarding muscle stiffness. The purpose of this study was to compare tendon and muscle stiffness in healthy tennis players to nontennis players. Design: Cross-sectional study. Methods: The shear wave modulus, measured in kilopascals, was obtained for the dominant pectoralis major, pectoralis minor, and common wrist-extensor tendon using 2-dimensional shear wave elastography ultrasound imaging (GE Logiq S8, L9 linear transducer). Independent t test was run to compare age, body mass index, and the activity index score between both groups. Within-day intrarater reliability was assessed using a within-examiner intraclass correlation coefficients (ICC [3, 1]) with 95% confidence intervals. A multivariate general linear model was run to compare the mean differences between the tennis and nontennis players for each of the soft tissues. Results: Twenty-six individuals (13 tennis players and 13 nontennis players) were recruited. Within-day ICCs were very good (ICC >.78 for the pectoralis musculature) and excellent (ICC >.94 for the common wrist extensor). Common extensor tendon stiffness was significantly higher in tennis players compared to nontennis players (mean difference = 114.8 [61.8], confidence interval, −22.8 to 252.5 kPa for the dominant arm [P =.039]). Mean pectoralis major and minor stiffness differences were not significant (P >.214). Conclusions: Common wrist-extensor stiffness in healthy recreational tennis players is higher than those who do not play tennis. Therefore, clinicians may need to facilitate a greater soft tissue stiffness response with resistance training when rehabilitating recreational tennis players as compared to those not playing tennis. Context: Flossing is still a relatively new technique that has yielded varied results in the research literature; therefore, it requires further investigation. Previous research has shown that thigh tissue flossing might improve performance in countermovement jump, sprint time, maximum voluntary contraction, and rate of force development. Design. The present study aims to investigate the effect of the floss band on performance during the Wingate test (30-WAT), muscle oxygen saturation (SpO2), and total hemoglobin in vastus lateralis. Methods: Twenty-two students of physical education and sport (11 men and 11 women) were randomly selected to complete either the Wingate test with the application of a floss band in warm-up or the Wingate test without the use of a floss band, followed by the alternative 24 hours apart. Results: Throughout the testing, the floss band did not affect performance values during the Wingate test (relative peak power, relative average power, and fatigue index). However, there was a medium to large effect difference during 1 minute prior to 30-WAT (PRE), during the 30-WAT, and 10-minute recovery (REC) in values of SpO2 and total hemoglobin. Use of floss band displayed a higher SpO2 during PRE, 30-WAT, and REC by ~13.55%, d<2; ~19.06%, d = 0.89; and ~8.55%, d = 0.59, respectively. Conclusion: Collectively, these findings indicate that the application of thigh flossing during warm-up has no effect on 30-WAT performance; however, SpO2 was significantly increased in all stages of testing. This could lead to potential improvement in repeated anaerobic exercise due to increased blood flow. Context: The long duration and high cost of anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction (ACLR) rehabilitation can pose barriers to completing rehabilitation, the latter stages of which progress to demanding sport-specific exercises critical for a safe return to sport. A staged approach shifting in-person physiotherapy sessions to later months of recovery may ensure patients undergo the sport-specific portion of ACLR rehabilitation. Design/Objective: To compare postoperative outcomes of knee function in patients participating in a staged ACLR physiotherapy program to patients participating in usual care physiotherapy through a randomized controlled trial. Methods: One hundred sixty-two patients were randomized to participate in staged (n = 80) or usual care physiotherapy (n = 82) following ACLR and assessed preoperatively and postoperatively at 2 weeks, 6 weeks, 3 months, and 6 months. The staged group completed the ACLR rehabilitation protocol at home for the first 3 months, followed by usual care in- person sessions. The usual care group completed in-person sessions for their entire rehabilitation. Outcome measures included the Lower Extremity Functional Scale, International Knee Documentation Committee Questionnaire, pain, range of motion, strength, and hop testing. Results: There were no statistically significant between-group differences in measures of knee function at 6 months postoperative. Patients in the usual care group reported significantly higher International Knee Documentation Committee scores at 3 months postoperative (mean difference = 5.8; 95% confidence interval, 1.3 to 10.4; P = .01). Conclusion: A staged approach to ACLR rehabilitation does not appear to impede knee function at 6 months postoperative but may result in worse patient reported outcomes at early follow-ups. Context: Exercise-induced muscle damage (EIMD) is prevalent especially in sports and rehabilitation. It causes loss in skeletal muscle function and soreness. As there are no firm preventive strategies, we aimed to evaluate the preventive efficacy of nonthermal 448-kHz capacitive resistive monopolar radiofrequency (CRMRF) therapy after eccentric bouts of EIMD response in knee flexors. Design: Twenty-nine healthy males (age: 25.2 [4.6] y) were randomized in control group (CG; n = 15) and experimental group (EG; n = 14) where EG followed 5 daily 448-kHz CRMRF therapies. All assessments were performed at baseline and post EIMD (EIMD + 1, EIMD + 2, EIMD + 5, and EIMD + 9 d). We measured tensiomyography of biceps femoris and semitendinosus to calculate contraction time, the maximal displacement and the radial velocity of contraction, unilateral isometric knee flexors maximal voluntary contraction torque, and rate of torque development in first 100 milliseconds. Results: Maximal voluntary contraction torque and rate of torque development in first 100 milliseconds decreased more in CG than in EG and recovered only in EG. Biceps femoris contraction time increased only in CG (without recovery), whereas in semitendinosus contraction time increased in EG (only at EIMD + 1) and in CG (without recovery). In both muscles, tensiomyographic maximal displacement decreased in EG (in EIMD + 1 and EIMD + 2) and in CG (without recovery). Furthermore, in both muscles, radial velocity of contraction decreased in EG (from EIMD + 1 until EIMD + 5) and in CG (without recovery). Context: Lower extremity physical performance tests (PPTs) have been widely used in sports rehabilitation and are commonly performed in person. However, some situations may disrupt the in-person health care delivery, such as social distancing due to the pandemic, traveling, and living in remote locations. Those situations may require adjustments in planning and applying measurement tests, and telehealth has become an alternative. Nevertheless, the reliability of lower extremity PPT tests via telehealth is still unknown. Objectives: To verify the test–retest reliability, SEM, and the minimum detectable change (MDC95) of PPTs via telehealth. Methods: Fifty asymptomatic athletes completed 2 assessment sessions 7 to 14 days apart. The assessment via telehealth consisted of warm-up exercises followed by the single-, triple-, and side-hop tests, and the long jump test, in random order. Intraclass correlation coefficient, SEM, and MDC95 were calculated for each PPT. Results: Single-hop test showed good to excellent reliability, with SEM and MDC95 ranging from 6.06 to 9.24 cm and 16.79 to 25.61 cm, respectively. The triple-hop test showed excellent reliability, with SEM and MDC95 ranging from 13.17 to 28.17 cm and 30.72 to 78.07 cm, respectively. Side-hop tests showed moderate reliability, with SEM and MDC95 ranging from 0.67 to 1.22 seconds and 2.00 to 3.39 seconds, respectively. The long jump test showed excellent reliability, with SEM and MDC95 ranging from 5.34 to 8.34 cm and 14.80 to 23.11 cm, respectively. Aim: To construct evidence-based sensitive quality indicators for patients' rapid rehabilitation care after combined pancreaticoduodenectomy (PD) and to provide a reference for clinical nursing professionals to scientifically evaluate the quality of patients' rehabilitation post-PD. Background: Since PD is associated with higher surgical risk and anastomotic complications, it leads to higher complication rates and longer postoperative recovery cycles. This reiterates the need for rapid recovery of patients after PD; however, the evaluation of sensitive nursing care indicators regarding rapid recovery post-PD has not yet been established to date. Methods: Based on the Donabedian structure-process-result theory model, we used available literature, semi-structured interviews, the Delphi method, and hierarchical analysis to establish a sensitive indicator system for patients' rapid rehabilitation after PD and evaluate the importance of such indicators. Results: There were two rounds of expert correspondence, and the effective recovery rate of the questionnaires of these rounds was 100%. The expert authority coefficients, as well as the Kendall coordination coefficients of the expert opinions, were 0.859 and 0.872 as well as 0.423 and 0.431, with statistically significant differences (p < 0.05), respectively. Consequently, we developed a sensitive quality index system for patients' rapid rehabilitation care after combined PD, including 3 first-level, 12 s-level, and 23 third-level indexes, respectively. Conclusion: The constructed sensitive quality index system developed for patients' rapid rehabilitation nursing care after combined PD is standardized, practical, and aligned with the specialty characteristics. Furthermore, this might help greatly in improving the quality and safety of patients' rapid rehabilitation nursing care after combined PD, standardizing nursing management skills, and enhancing nursing quality. ObjectiveMethodsResultDiscussionThis study aimed to evaluate the effects of early swallowing rehabilitation on safe oral feeding in dysphagia patients following traumatic brain injury.Sixty-nine patients were divided into intervention and control groups, with the intervention group receiving swallowing rehabilitation therapy. The severity of swallowing disorders, cognitive function, and level of consciousness were assessed using the Mann Assessment of Swallowing Ability (MASA), Rancho Los Amigos (RLA), and Glasgow Coma Scale (GCS) before and after the intervention. Additionally, data on ventilator use duration and hospital stay length were collected.The intervention group exhibited a significant improvement in MASA scores (68.58) compared to the control group (38.10). No significant differences were observed in GCS and RLA scores post-intervention, indicating similar levels of consciousness and cognitive function between groups. While the duration of ventilator use was comparable, the intervention group achieved safe oral swallowing 12.12 days earlier than the control group.The findings demonstrate that early swallowing rehabilitation significantly enhances recovery dysphagia post-brain injury, as evidenced by improved MASA scores and earlier achievement of safe oral feeding, despite no notable changes in cognition or consciousness. Purpose: This focus group study aimed to explore experiences and perceptions on post-stroke fatigue guidance in Dutch rehabilitation and follow-up care among people/patients with stroke and health professionals. Methods: Ten persons with stroke and twelve health professionals with different professions within stroke rehabilitation or follow-up care in the Netherlands were purposively sampled and included. Eight online focus group interviews were conducted. We analysed the data using reflexive thematic analysis. Results: Three themes were identified. Guidance in fatigue management did not always match the needs of people/patients with stroke. Professionals were positive about the provided fatigue guidance (e.g. advice on activity pacing), but found it could be better tailored to the situation of people/patients with stroke. Professionals believe the right time for post-stroke fatigue guidance is when people/patients with stroke are motivated to change physical activity behaviour to manage fatigue – mostly several months after stroke – while people/patients with stroke preferred information on post-stroke fatigue well before discharge. Follow-up care and suggestions for improvement described that follow-up support after rehabilitation by a stroke coach is not implemented nationwide, while people/patients with stroke and professionals expressed a need for it. Conclusions: The study findings will help guide improvement of fatigue guidance in stroke rehabilitation programmes and stroke follow-up care aiming to improve physical activity, functioning, participation, and health. IMPLICATIONS FOR REHABILITATION: We recommend fatigue guidance, including peer support, to be accessible to all people after stroke and for health professionals to pay attention to acceptance of the stroke. To improve fatigue guidance, we suggest providing information on post-stroke fatigue to people after stroke and their relatives well before discharge from stroke rehabilitation. Tailored advice on activity pacing during and after stroke rehabilitation is important to fill the current unmet need of people after stroke to manage fatigue and to gradually improve participation, physical activity behaviour and health. Purpose: To examine associations between illness perception, also called illness cognitions or appraisals, disposition of passive coping, and symptoms of anxiety and depression, and to test whether passive coping mediates the associations between illness perception and symptoms of anxiety and depression. Materials and methods: Longitudinal, multicentre study. Participants were inpatients of spinal cord injury (SCI) rehabilitation. Measures included the Brief Illness Perception Questionnaire (B-IPQ), the Utrecht Coping List passive coping subscale (UCL-P), and the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS). Mediation was tested with the PROCESS tool. Results: The questionnaires were completed by 121 participants at admission and at discharge. Of them, 70% were male, 58% had a paraplegia, and 82% an incomplete lesion. Weak to strong (0.294–0.650) significant associations were found between each pair of study variables. The use of passive coping strategies mediated the associations between illness perception and symptoms of anxiety and depression. Conclusion: Symptoms of anxiety and depression were more frequent in people who have a threatening illness perception combined with a lower use of passive coping strategies. Therefore, it is advised that patients are screened and treated for threatening illness perception and high use of passive coping strategies during rehabilitation after SCI. IMPLICATIONS FOR REHABILITATION: For rehabilitation professionals it is recommended to screen inpatients with spinal cord injury (SCI) for illness perception and disposition of passive coping to identify those who may be more vulnerable for symptoms of anxiety and depression at admission. Inpatients with SCI who report a threatening illness perception in combination with a high use of passive coping at admission, have an increased risk for symptoms of anxiety and depression. For rehabilitation professionals it is recommended to repeat this screening to support careful planning of psychological (follow-up) treatment and coordination of care at discharge. The study included 100 participants with sensorimotor impairments who were able to walk 6 m. Cronbach’s alpha and item-total correlations were used to assess internal consistency. Interpretability was assessed by examining floor and ceiling effects and skewness. To investigate construct validity, Spearman correlation coefficients and Bland-Altman analysis were performed to compare the Berg Balance Scale and the Mini-BESTest Inter- and intra-rater reliability were assessed by calculating the ICC, SEM and MDC based on video recordings of the participants during the Mini-BESTest assessments.The European Portuguese Mini-BESTest showed good internal consistency (Cronbach’s α = 0.892) and no significant floor or ceiling effects. Excellent inter- and intra-rater reliability (ICC = 0.97) were also demonstrated, with MDC of 2.58 and 2.57, respectively. Furthermore, this instrument showed a significant correlation with the BBS (r = 0.902). Bioelectronics is a hot research topic, yet an important tool, as it facilitates the creation of advanced medical devices that interact with biological systems to effectively diagnose, monitor and treat a broad spectrum of health conditions. Electrical stimulation (ES) is a pivotal technique in bioelectronics, offering a precise, non-pharmacological means to modulate and control biological processes across molecular, cellular, tissue, and organ levels. This method holds the potential to restore or enhance physiological functions compromised by diseases or injuries by integrating sophisticated electrical signals, device interfaces, and designs tailored to specific biological mechanisms. This review explains the mechanisms by which ES influences cellular behaviors, introduces the essential stimulation principles, discusses the performance requirements for optimal ES systems, and highlights the representative applications. From this review, we can realize the potential of ES based bioelectronics in therapy, regenerative medicine and rehabilitation engineering technologies, ranging from tissue engineering to neurological technologies, and the modulation of cardiovascular and cognitive functions. Introduction: One way to improve exercise performance and protect heart health is the extended synchronization of the stepping with the diastolic phase of the cardiac cycle. Cardiac-locomotor coupling (CLC) happens when the step rate (SR) equals the heart rate (HR). The extent of CLC in daily life is unknown. This study aims to analyze spontaneous occurrences of CLC during daily activities. Methods: A retrospective analysis of daily life recordings from a wrist-worn sensor was undertaken (PMData, N = 16, 5 months duration). The deviation between HR and SR was used to define CLC (deviation ≤ 1%) and weak CLC (1%< deviation ≤ 10%). The occurrence and the probability of CLC during everyday life were computed from the recordings. The CLC occurrences were stratified depending on the duration and intensity of the physical activity. Finally, a Monte Carlo simulation was run to evaluate the probability of random occurrences of CLC vs. the observed recordings. Results: Participants couple for 5% and weakly couple for 35% of the observational period. The ratio of 1:1 between HR and SR is the dominating occurrence across the study population and this overrepresentation is significant. CLC occurs mostly for long activities. The extent of CLC for various intensities of activity is subject-dependent. The results suggest that CLC is feasible for most people. Conclusions: CLC occurs spontaneously during unsupervised daily activity in everyone in our cohort, which suggests a mechanistic interaction between the cardiac and the locomotor systems. Therefore, the aim of this qualitative study was to develop an understanding of the relevance of therapist feedback in the context of group-based exercise programs from the patients’ and therapists’ perspective.Semi-structured interviews were conducted with five rehabilitation patients as well as five exercise therapists with work experience in group-based exercise therapy. Data were analysed using structuring content analysis.Three types of therapist feedback with respective modalities and characteristics were identified. Besides corrective feedback to support the patients’ exercise instruction, motivational feedback and performance feedback were used to aid the strengthening of psychological resources. Although therapist feedback constituted an important component of patient-therapist-interaction, evidence suggesting a facilitation of coping strategies, participation or long-term physical activity adherence was sparse.While therapist feedback in group-based exercise programs likely aids the recovery of physical and psychological functions, its potential to promote the long-term goals of exercise therapy in medical rehabilitation appears to be underutilised. Their physical rehabilitation usually involves physiotherapy. This study sought to better understand the experiences of injured immigrant workers receiving compensation and physiotherapy treatments.We conducted a qualitative study using an interpretive descriptive methodology. Semi-structured interviews were completed with 10 compensated immigrant workers about the physiotherapy services they received. Transcripts were analyzed thematically and with an intersectional lens.Two major themes were identified: 1) complex pathways to physiotherapy, and 2) key pillars of physiotherapy experiences. The first theme demonstrates that a lack of familiarity with the health and compensation systems, delayed access to physiotherapy, and cumulative burdens complicate the care of immigrant workers. The second theme shows that moral/emotional support, pain relief, and the recognition of sociocultural beliefs and fears are key aspects to improving the experiences of care for these workers.This study offers new insights into physiotherapy in the context of a work injury, which may help physiotherapists adapt care to the complex needs of immigrant workers. Articles were found on MEDLINE via Pubmed, EMBASE, Cochrane Library, CINHAL, and PsycINFO up to April 2023. Eligible qualitative studies focussed on adults (>16 years old) with a diagnosis of chronic primary or secondary MSK pain who performed PNE. Thematic synthesis by Thomas and Harden was followed. The Critical Appraisal Skills Programme (CASP) tool ensured the quality of the studies, while the Confidence in Evidence from the Reviews of Qualitative Research (CERQual) approach facilitated data confidence assessment.Nine studies were included (188 participants). Three analytical themes were developed: (i) “Efficient Communication of Information”, emphasising the importance of accurate content transmission; (ii) “Emotional Support and Well-being”, recognising emotional aspects as integral to treatment; and (iii) “Empowerment Promotion”, focusing on information retention and personal transformation. This study identified evidence and considerations for allied health clinicians in providing group interventions for people with cognitive impairment. A scoping review was conducted by searching the MEDLINE (Ovid), CINHAL (EBSCOhost), Scopus (Elsevier), Embase (Ovid) and TROVE databases from 2016. Articles of any study design in which group interventions were performed by an allied health professional with participants with cognitive impairment were included. Data on physical, cognitive, psychological, and quality of life measures were extracted from the selected articles. Standardised mean changes (SMC) were calculated. Ten articles were included in the study. No article directly compared group interventions versus one‐to‐one interventions. The results of the meta‐analysis showed significant improvements after the intervention in the physical (SMC = 0.42, P = 0.013), cognitive (SMC = 0.43, P = 0.005), psychological (SMC = 0.14, P = 0.005), and quality of life domains (SMC = 0.28, P = 0.002). This review identified considerations for clinicians when developing group interventions for people with cognitive impairments, including specific participant criteria, increasing support, modifications to intervention difficulty, and environmental considerations. Group intervention for people with cognitive impairments demonstrated moderate effectiveness in improving physical and cognitive domains and a small effect in improving psychological and quality of life domains. Electronic skin is increasingly receiving tremendous attention for its potential applications in medical rehabilitation and human‐machine interaction. However, the trade‐off between detection range and sensitivity of e‐skin has not been well addressed, although various strategies have been proposed. Interlocked microridges between the epidermis and dermis can effectively transfer stress to mechanoreceptors, allowing human skin to exhibit excellent sensitivity even upon both subtle and large external stimuli. Herein, inspired by human skin, a novel bionic e‐skin is developed in which interlocked microridges are introduced between the sensitive layer and interdigitated electrode. Thanks to the interlocked microridges, excellent compression capability and remarkable change of contact area between sensitive layer and interdigitated electrode can be achieved and the e‐skin exhibits an ultrahigh sensitivity (≈1502.5 kPa−1), excellent durability (10 000 cycles), a short response time (10 ms) as well as a wide detection range (≈160 kPa). Moreover, due to the effective transmission of external stress from a sensitive layer to an interdigitated electrode, such bionic e‐skin has ability to detect a wide range of human vital signs and vibrations caused by sound waves. Such facile preparation of bionic interlocked microridges opens a new pathway to achieve high‐performance e‐skins and extend their application prospects in future wearable intelligent systems. Objective: Identify key flexibility and point-of-care musculoskeletal ultrasound (POCUS) measures for prognosticating return-toplay (RTP) following a first hamstring strain injury (HSI) and informing the clinical decision-making process. Design: Exploratory prospective cohort study. Setting: Sport medicine and rehabilitation clinic of a Canadian university. Participants: One hundred and sixty-seven elite Canadian university football athletes followed over 5 seasons. Interventions: Clinical and POCUS measures collected within 7 days after HSI and preseason clinical measures. MainOutcomeMeasures: Active knee extension (AKE) and Straight Leg Raise (SLR) to quantify hamstring flexibility, POCUS-related outcomes to characterize tissue alteration, and RTP until full sport resumption were documented (categorized as Early [1-40 days] or Late [.40 days] RTP). Results: A total of 19 and 14 athletes were included in the Early RTP (mean RTP 5 28.84 6 8.62 days) and Late RTP groups (mean 51.93 6 10.54 days), respectively, after having been diagnosed with a first HSI. For the clinical results, height and a greater flexibility asymmetry measure with the AKE or SLR when compared with both ipsilateral preseason and acute contralateral values significantly increases the chance of facing a long delay before returning to play (ie, RTP). For the POCUS-related results, the Peetrons severity score, extent of the longitudinal fibrillary alteration, and novel score lead to similar results. Conclusions: Early hamstring flexibility asymmetry following acute HSI, particularly the AKE, along with some POCUS-related measures are valuable in prognosticating late RTP following among Canadian university football athletes. However, producing tissue-like multilayered geometries and integrating them as e-skin systems requires simplifying and standardizing their manufacture. Here, we present a scalable and cost-effective cure-on-demand strategy for 3D printing nanocomposite silicone rubbers and integrating them into complex soft structures with 1200 % enhanced pressure-strain sensitivity. By utilizing a controlled in-situ mixing of catalyst-cured silicones and shear-driven alignment of carbon nanofibers (CNF), we construct percolated networks with conductivities up to 130 S m−1 layer-by-layer. We investigate the influence of ink composition, printing parameters, geometrical design, and material density on the mechanical properties, stretchability, sensitivity, and antimicrobial activity of 3D printed piezoresistive sensors and build skin-like interfaces that detect minimal deformations like human physiological signs. This customizable, biocompatible, and robust e-skin holds promise for cost-effective integration in rehabilitation medicine, smart robotics applications, and extended reality (XR) interactive experiences. Mirror therapy is a commonly used rehabilitation intervention in post stroke upper limb rehabilitation. Despite many potential technological developments, mirror therapy is routinely delivered through the use of a static mirror or mirror box. This review aims to synthesise evidence on the application of immersive virtual reality mirror therapy (IVRMT) in poststroke upper limb rehabilitation. A scoping review was performed on relevant English studies published between 2013 to 2023. Literature search was undertaken on APA PsycInfo, CINAHL, Cochrane Library, MEDLINE, PubMed and Web of Science between August 5 and 17, 2023. Additional studies were included from Google Scholar and reference lists of identified articles. A total of 224 records were identified, of which 8 full-text articles were selected for review. All included studies were published between 2019 and 2023, and from high- and upper-middle-income nations. All the studies were experimental (n = 8). The total sample size in the studies was 259, most of whom were stroke patients with upper limb weakness (n = 184). This review identified three major themes and two sub-themes based on the contents of the studies conducted on the application of IVRMT: IVRMT's technical application, feasibility and impact on clinical outcomes (motor recovery and adverse events). IVRMT was concluded to be a safe and feasible approach to post-stroke upper limb rehabilitation, offering enhanced engagement and motor recovery. However, more methodologically robust studies should be conducted to advance this area of practice, and to include a uniform IVRMT intervention protocol, dose, and use of outcome measure. Digital twin represents the core technology to realize the dynamic monitoring of complex industrial systems. However, the human body, as the most complex system in the physical world, digital twin is rarely applied in it. In this study, we successfully demonstrated a digital twin in the human biomedical application by proposing a dynamic monitoring system of the upper limb force. In this system, the real upper limb drives the motion of the virtual one in real-time and dynamically updates the force. Meanwhile, the virtual upper limb feeds back the monitoring-results of the force to the controller of the real upper limb via immersive virtual reality interaction. Experimental results of the typical motions of the upper limb revealed that the proposed system functioned interactively in real-time in a non-invasive manner, while ensuring the accurate solving of the muscle force. In conclusion, our digital twin-driven system is of great importance for rehabilitation medicine, biomechanical scientific research and physical training, promoting the application of the digital twin in the human biomedical field. Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a common chronic autoimmune disease characterized by symmetrical polyarthritis, joint pain, and morning stiffness. It significantly impairs physical condition and increases the risk of functional disability. While conventional treatments include drug therapy, many patients continue to experience symptoms and seek alternative therapies to improve their condition. This article describes two clinical cases of RA patients treated with a comprehensive rehabilitation program, including moderate-intensity walking, yoga, and nutritional therapy. The study aimed to evaluate this approach's effectiveness in improving the patients' functional capacity and quality of life. The first patient (50 year-old female) noted a significant reduction in the number of painful joints (by 14) and swollen joints (by 12) after a three-month rehabilitation course. The visual analog scale (VAS) pain level decreased from 80 mm to 50 mm, and the duration of morning stiffness decreased from several hours to 80 min. The second patient (45 year-old female) also showed improvement: painful joints decreased from 13 to 2, and swollen joints from 7 to 1. VAS pain level decreased from 80 mm to 40 mm, and morning stiffness decreased by 50 min. Both patients reported an average reduction in excess weight by 1.65 kg/m², along with improvements in general well-being and mood. The results confirm that a comprehensive rehabilitation approach, including physical activity, yoga, and diet therapy, significantly improves the condition of RA patients. This approach helps reduce pain, decrease the number of inflamed joints, and improve overall functionality. Introduction: Cardiovascular disease (CVD) presents a significant challenge in rheumatoid arthritis (RA), a systemic chronic ailment affecting the joints and causing systemic inflammation. Effective RA management, including pharmacological and non-pharmacological interventions, is crucial for mitigating cardiac risk. Pharmacotherapy, though effective, can have adverse effects, leading many patients to seek complementary therapies. This study investigates the impact of physical medicine and rehabilitation on RA management in patients with cardiovascular disease, analyzing clinical data to assess the efficacy of integrated therapeutic approaches. Methods: This retrospective monocentric study draws upon data from patient records at the Rheumatology Department of the Regional Clinical Hospital of Shymkent, Kazakhstan, spanning 2019 to 2022. Data collected included demographic information, diagnoses, comorbidities, medical anamneses, lab results, and treatment regimens, including physical medicine and rehabilitation interventions. Data were summarized in Microsoft Excel. Statistical analysis was performed using IBM SPSS Statistics (version 26.0). Results: An analysis of 350 patients with RA identified 143 cases of concomitant CVD, with arterial hypertension being the most common cardiovascular disease. The prevalence of CVD among patients with RA was 40%, with a mean age of 58 years, peaking between 50 and 65 years. The majority of patients were women. A strong association was found between increased RA activity and elevated cardiovascular risk. Despite the widespread use of glucocorticosteroid therapy, rehabilitation coverage remained limited. A significant proportion of patients had elevated cholesterol and C-reactive protein levels, while those who engaged in physical therapy and rehabilitation had lower cholesterol levels. Comparative analysis of yoga integration into rehabilitation programs for patients with RA, alongside other modalities (kinesiotherapy, balneotherapy, and pilates), showed that yoga participants exhibited lower pain levels, reduced morning stiffness duration, and lower mean DAS-28 scores compared to those using alternative rehabilitation methods. Conclusion: Integrating physical medicine and rehabilitation, particularly yoga, with pharmacological treatments appears promising for improving patient outcomes. Yoga has demonstrated benefits in reducing pain, morning stiffness, and disease activity. Continued research is essential to refine these approaches and enhance RA and CVD management in patients. Background: Individuals with spinal cord injuries (SCIs) are at an increased risk of poor oral health compared to the general population. However, little is known about the related barriers and facilitators experienced by these individuals within the hospital setting. Objectives: Understand the oral health knowledge, attitudes and practices of people with SCIs, barriers and facilitators to managing their oral health, and recommendations to improve oral care at acute/rehabilitation hospital settings. Methods: Semi‐structured interviews were conducted with 11 participants, from a major metropolitan hospital in Sydney, Australia. The interviews were thematically analysed. Results: Three themes were constructed. Participants believed that the onus was on them to manage their oral health. Individuals also had limited knowledge of its importance to general health, and placed a lower priority on oral health compared to other aspects of health. All participants identified a combination of factors, such as cost, time, resources and prior negative experiences, that contributed to the neglect of their oral care. Participants also discussed the need of support from the multidisciplinary team and family/carers to facilitate oral care and identified various appropriate oral health education formats. Conclusion: This study highlighted some areas where oral health knowledge among people with SCIs could be improved. It also identified the need for oral health training for the multidisciplinary team, as well as carers, to better integrate oral care during rehabilitation in the hospital. BACKGROUND: This study aimed to compare and rank the effects of aerobic exercise, resistance training, endurance training, and high-intensity interval training in COPD by network meta-analysis. METHODS: PubMed, Cochrane, Embase, and the Web of Science were searched to identify randomized controlled trials that investigated the effects of exercise training on COPD. The search period began on the date of database establishment and ended on April 8, 2023. Two reviewers independently screened the retrieved articles, extracted relevant data, and assessed the risk of bias in the included studies. Network meta-analysis was performed by using statistical software. RESULTS: This study included a total of 27 studies that involved 1,415 subjects. The network meta-analysis findings indicated that high-intensity interval training was the most-effective intervention for improving 6-min walk distance with a surface under the cumulative ranking curve score of 87.68%. In addition, high-intensity interval training showed the highest efficacy in improving FEV1 with a surface under the cumulative ranking curve score of 73.17%, FEV1/FVC with a surface under the cumulative ranking curve score of 79.52%, and St. George Respiratory Questionnaire score with a surface under the cumulative ranking curve score of 73.88%. Conversely, endurance training was found to be the most effective for ameliorating FVC with a surface under the cumulative ranking curve score of 73.39%. CONCLUSIONS: The findings of this study suggest that high-intensity interval training may be more effective than endurance exercise, resistance exercise, and aerobic exercise in improving the 6-min walk distance, FEV1, FEV1/FVC, and St. George Respiratory Questionnaire scores in patients with COPD. In addition, endurance training may be better than resistance exercise, aerobic exercise, and high-intensity interval training in improving FVC in patients with COPD. However, due to the limited number of studies conducted on high-intensity interval training, more high-quality randomized controlled trials are required to verify these conclusions. Background: Positive person-centered attributes of inpatient rehabilitation need to be identified from the patient's perspective to be further developed and sustained. Purpose: To identify which attributes patients openly evoke as being great care experiences, using an open appreciative inquiry during the inpatient rehabilitation stay. Methods: Qualitative secondary analysis of appreciative patient comments during a bedside patient experience rounding facilitated by a neutral party was performed. Two independent analysts employed an inductive, summative form of content analysis. Results: Among 150 patients rounded, 122 provided categorizable appreciative accounts. Over two-thirds of the patients (67.2%) focused on "staff attributes" in their great-experience accounts. Those attributes were mostly interpersonal such as being "attentive & caring—beyond clinical duty" and being "encouraging (but not too hard) & reassuring". These interpersonal staff attributes were reported with words showing deep levels of personal significance or patient appreciation. Beyond staff attributes, the perceived quality of "patient care" (31.1%) and opportunities for "leisure and social activities" (9.0%) were also frequently evoked. Amenities like food or customer service were the least evoked, rarely so as an exclusive attribute (0.8% for each). Conclusions: The human(e) factor, especially the interpersonal qualities of staff, emerged as greatly appreciated from the patient experience perspective during inpatient rehabilitation. This study aimed to compare the impact of a cardiac telerehabilitation (CTR) protocol aimed at patients with cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) during the period of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) associated with social isolation. This retrospective cohort study included 58 participants diagnosed with stable cardiovascular diseases (CVDs), which were divided into three groups: conventional cardiac rehabilitation (CCR) group (n = 20), composed of patients undergoing conventional cardiac rehabilitation; cardiac telerehabilitation (CTR) group (n = 18), composed of patients undergoing cardiac telerehabilitation and control group (n = 20), composed of patients admitted for cardiac rehabilitation who had not started training programs. The results showed that body mass index was reduced (p = 0.019) and quality of life was improved (e.g., limitations due to physical aspects [p = 0.021), vitality [p = 0.045] and limitations due to emotional aspects [p = 0.024]) by CCR compared to baseline. These outcomes were not improved by CTR (p > 0.05). However, this strategy prevented clinical deterioration in the investigated patients. Although CCR achieved a superior effect on clinical improvement and quality of life, CTR was relevant to stabilize the blood pressure and quality of life of patients with cardiovascular diseases during the period of COVID-19-associated social isolation. Cardiovascular disease remains a leading cause of morbidity and mortality, a fact that is commonly associated with co-morbidities such as clinical depression. While phase II cardiac rehabilitation is an established intervention for those with cardiovascular disease, its effect on patients who also suffer from depression are under studied. Aim: To quantify Pre- and Post-cardiac rehabilitation questionnaire scores collected from a large patient data registry. For this investigation, 27 670 patients completed Patient Health Questionnaire-9 questionnaires both Pre- and Post-rehabilitation (averaging [28.0 ± 8.7] phase II sessions). Findings reveal that questionnaire scores decreased by 40%-48% across all groups, a finding that was independent of assigned sex, race, and ethnicity. Moreover, when data were stratified for questionnaire scores that may indicate major and minor depressive disorder, phase II cardiac rehabilitation outcomes were lower by 61% and 49% respectively. While all groups exhibited lower questionnaire scores following cardiac rehabilitation participation, numerical differences at Pre- and Post-rehabilitation time points indicate that males and White patients have more favorable scores. This latter observation, while not confirmed currently, appears to be linked to referral rates to phase II cardiac rehabilitation, which remain poor for females, racial and ethnic minorities. Cardiac injury and sustained cardiovascular abnormalities in long-COVID syndrome, i.e. post-acute sequelae of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) have emerged as a debilitating health burden that has posed challenges for management of pre-existing cardiovascular conditions and other associated chronic comorbidities in the most vulnerable group of patients recovered from acute COVID-19. A clear and evidence-based guideline for treating cardiac issues of long-COVID syndrome is still lacking. In this review, we have summarized the common cardiac symptoms reported in the months after acute COVID-19 illness and further evaluated the possible pathogenic factors underlying the pathophysiology process of long-COVID. The mechanistic understanding of how Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) damages the heart and vasculatures is critical in developing targeted therapy and preventive measures for limiting the viral attacks. Despite the currently available therapeutic interventions, a considerable portion of patients recovered from severe COVID-19 have reported a reduced functional reserve due to deconditioning. Therefore, a rigorous and comprehensive cardiac rehabilitation program with individualized exercise protocols would be instrumental for the patients with long-COVID to regain the physical fitness levels comparable to their pre-illness baseline. Introduction: Health literacy (HL) is correlated with the risk of mortality and readmission during cardiac rehabilitation. However, the correlation between HL and utility-based health-related quality of life (HRQOL) scores has been poorly documented. Therefore, we examined the correlation between HL and utility-based HRQOL scores in participants undergoing cardiac rehabilitation. Methods: The data of 448 participants undergoing cardiac rehabilitation from the Kobe-Cardiac Rehabilitation Project for People Around the World (K-CREW) clinical trial were analyzed. Participants were divided into low and high HL cohorts. We used the 14-item Health Literacy Scale (HLS-14) to assess HL and the EuroQol 5-Dimension 5-Level (EQ-5D-5L) questionnaire to assess HRQOL at discharge. The utility scores of the EQ-5D-5L questionnaire were calculated. The median age was 71.0 [61.0–78.0] years, 75.7% of participants were male, and 60% had a low HL. Results: Median utility score was 0.88 [0.75–1.00]. Regarding the dimensions of the EQ-5D-5L questionnaire, more than 60% of participants responded positively to the severity level of "no problem." In the comparative analysis, the low HL cohort had a statistically significantly lower utility score than that of the high HL cohort (p-value = 0.03). The multivariate analysis revealed that the HLS-14 scores were not statistically significantly correlated with the utility scores. Conclusion: Participants with low HL had lower HRQOL in the comparative analysis. However, multivariate analysis revealed that HL was not statistically significantly correlated with utility-based HRQOL scores. Introduction: Ehlers–Danlos Syndrome (EDS) is a hereditary and heterogeneous syndrome that affects conjunctive tissue, due to collagen production compromise. Hypermobile EDS (hEDS) is the most common subtype of this syndrome and can cause shoulder joint instability, which can lead to chronic pain and significant functional impairment.Methods: A case report of a patient with hEDS followed in our local health unit was made. The authors describe their clinical insight regarding the case, as well as the rehabilitation program the patient was submitted to.Results: Female patient, 32 years old. Functionally autonomous in every daily living activity. Clinically diagnosed with hEDS in 2013, after reporting bilateral shoulder instability. The patient presented herself in a Physical and Rehabilitation Medicine consultation, 6 months after being submitted to the third surgical intervention of the right shoulder. She presented an overall limited range of motion, decreased muscle strength and positive apprehension and drawer tests. An extensive rehabilitation program was prescribed, focusing on joint mobilization, dynamic stabilizers strengthening and proprioceptive training. After 12 weeks, the patient presented reduced shoulder pain and a better functional status.Conclusion: hEDS compromises the integrity of the static and dynamic stabilizers of the shoulder. Background: Distal embolization as the first manifestation of an abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) is relatively rare. AAAs presenting with multiple organs embolization are rarer and serious systemic conditions. There are no reports of life-saving outcomes in patients with AAAs presenting with multiple organs embolization prior to surgery. Case presentation: A 78-year-old man presented with right acute lower limb ischemia (ALLI) and ischemic enteritis coexisting with an 83-mm AAA with a large mural thrombus. Although the patient underwent successful revascularization with endovascular treatment for right ALLI, the manifestation of ischemia of the calf muscles and infection forced right above-knee amputation. The patient also presented with ischemic colitis that resolved with conservative treatment. After receiving appropriate medical therapy and rehabilitation, the patient was successfully treated with open aortic repair for the AAA. There is a need to (1) identify the scope of the use of RGM, (2) explore potential benefits, (3) examine qualitative studies to capture perspectives from participants and practitioners, and (4) identify knowledge gaps to be addressed in future research.A scoping review methodology was conducted. PubMed, CINAHL, Scopus, as well as the search engines DIVA portal, Libris.se, Google Scholar, and uppsatser.se were searched. Quantitative studies were summarised using diagnosis as a differentiating criterion, and qualitative studies were summarised in a narrative synthesis.Twenty-three studies were included, the vast majority of which consisted of non-peer-reviewed publications/grey literature. There is initial research evidence on potential benefits for stroke rehabilitation, with inconclusive results in other populations. Qualitative data indicate that RGM is adequately challenging and motivating for participants, with positive perceptions of recovery and quality of life.Findings indicate that RGM could serve as a valuable addition to neurological rehabilitation. Potential benefits were identified, and qualitative data indicate that RGM is perceived as motivating and enjoyable. Background: Severe eosinophilic asthma (SEA) is often linked to a dysregulation in the Interleukin-(IL)-5 axis. Mepolizumab, a humanized monoclonal antibody, reduces eosinophils by directly binging to IL-5, potentially restoring homeostatic eosinophil biology, with a significant impact on quality of life, acute exacerbations and oral corticosteroids (OCS) elimination in SEA patients. While its short-and middle-term effects are well described, no study has so far investigated its longlasting effects in SEA patients. The aim of our study was therefore to explore the effects of a long-term, six-year continuous treatment with mepolizumab on clinical control and clinical remission in a cohort of SEA patients. Methods: We conducted a retrospective review of clinical records of patients who were prescribed mepolizumab between June 2017 and April 2018. We collected demographical, functional, and clinical data from visits performed at baseline and then at the specified timepoints and checked if patients had reached clinical remission after 6 years. We assessed asthma control test (ACT), exacerbation rate, and OCS elimination dose at 6 years. Clinical Remission (CR) was defined on the basis of the elimination of OCS and the contemporary presence of all the following: 1) stable lung function; 2) no exacerbation in the previous 12 months; 3) acceptable symptom control (ACT ≥ 20). Results: Of 86 patients screened, 62 were included in the final analysis. Our study suggests that mepolizumab is effective and well tolerated after a six-year course of continuous treatment in patients with SEA. We reported a prevalence of 28 (46.8%) patients who reached complete CR at 72 months from the treatment start. 75% of patients eliminated the maintenance OCS already after 1 year of treatment; this proportion reached the 87% within the sixth year of treatment. Conclusion: Mepolizumab proved to be effective in real-life after 6 years of treatment, inducing a complete clinical remission in the 46.8% of patients, with sustained improvements in quality of life, exacerbation rate, OCS intake and lung function. Background: Fear-avoidance in COPD can have detrimental effects on pulmonary rehabilitation (PR) outcomes and is therefore important to address. This prospective study examined changes in and management of COPDrelated anxiety symptoms over the course of a PR program. Methods: Patients with COPD referred to 9-weeks of PR in the municipality of Vejle, Denmark from January to December 2022 completed a six-minute walk test (6MWT) and the following questionnaires, both before and after PR: COPD Anxiety Questionnaire 20-item version (CAF-R), measuring COPDrelated anxiety; COPD Assessment Test (CAT), measuring COPD-related disability; 12-Item Short-Form Health Survey (SF-12), measuring health-related quality of life (HR-QoL); sociodemographic and disease-related information. After PR, a subsample of the patients took part in semi-structured interviews exploring their understanding of how they managed COPD-related anxiety during PR. Pre- and post-assessment of COPD-related anxiety and other PR outcomes were analysed with t-tests and correlation analyses. Qualitative interviews were analysed using a thematic analysis approach. Results: A total of 72 patients with COPD (mean ± SD age 71 ± 8, 53% female) were included in the study, and 13 took part in qualitative interviews. A significant decrease in COPD-related anxiety was observed from before to after PR, corresponding to a small effect size (Cohen's d = 0.32; p = 0.018). Reductions in COPD-related anxiety were not associated with improvements in COPD-related disability, HR-QOL, or functional exercise capacity. The qualitative findings identified four anxiety management strategies, i.e., "planning", "problem-solving", "accepting", and "confronting", which were influenced by interactions with healthcare professionals and co-patients as well as patients' own perception. Conclusions: COPD-related anxiety symptoms was reduced after PR, potentially through the use of various management strategies. Background: The long-term effect of the 2019 coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic is not fully known. Severe cases of COVID-19 have resulted in disability that can be assessed in a biopsychosocial manner with the International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health with the World Health Organization Disability Assessment Schedule 2.0 (WHODAS 2.0) questionnaire. This study aimed to evaluate the long-term effects on disability of COVID-19 three years after post-acute rehabilitation using WHODAS 2.0. Methods: This single-center cohort study included patients with severe COVID-19 who underwent immediate post-discharge post-acute rehabilitation intervention. Three years later, patients were assessed via telephone using the WHODAS 2.0 questionnaire. Results: Of the 69 patients identified in the hospital database, 27 responded. A total of 16 patients refused to respond due to emotional distress. The mean age was 63.4 ± 8.6 years, 81.5% were independent in the community, 55.3% had been previously admitted to the ICU, and the median rehabilitation hospitalization duration was 18 (11.5,24) days. Comorbidities included type 2 diabetes mellitus (DM) (55.5%), grade 2 high blood pressure (62.9%), pressure ulcers (37%), peripheral neurologic deficits (62.9%), and central neurological deficits (14.8%). ICU admission was significantly correlated with advanced rehabilitation needs (measured by the level of the rehabilitation (p < 0.01) and longer hospitalizations (measured by total days in the hospital (p < 0.001). The overall disability score was 35.09%, significantly influenced by DM and central neurological deficits. Conclusions: Central neurological deficits and DM are associated with higher disability scores. Tailored rehabilitation programs, ongoing medical assessment, integrated care models, and patient education are essential for improving long-term outcomes after COVID-19 disease. Purpose: To understand how persons with non-dysvascular lower limb amputation (LLA) use occupations to contextualize their quality of life (QoL). Methods: A qualitative study using an interpretative description approach was conducted. Analysis of the interviews was guided by an occupational perspective, which considers the day-to-day activities that are important to an individual. Results: Twenty adults with an adult-acquired non-dysvascular amputation (e.g., trauma, cancer or infection) were interviewed. Following thematic analysis, two main themes were developed: (1) sense of self expressed through occupations; and (2) sense of belonging with others influenced by occupations. Participants expressed the way they felt about themselves through their activities and placed high value on whether they could participate in certain occupations. Participants also described how their sense of belonging was changed through the context of their changing occupations. Conclusion: The findings from this work can be leveraged by clinicians and researchers alike to improve care for this population. Rehabilitation programs should consider interventions and programming that help to restore occupations or develop new ones given the importance placed on occupations by persons with non-dysvascular LLA. IMPLICATIONS FOR REHABILITATION: Quality of life is affected following non-dysvascular lower limb amputation due to physical, mental and psychosocial changes. Occupations (or day-to-day activities) are important components of quality of life for persons with lower limb amputation. Background: Dysmetria, the inability to accurately estimate distance in motor tasks, is a characteristic clinical feature of cerebellar injury. Even though subjective dysmetria can be quickly detected during the neurological examination with the finger-to-nose test, objective quantification of reaching accuracy for clinical assessment is still lacking. Emerging VR technology allows for the delivery of rich multisensory environmental stimuli with a high degree of control. Furthermore, recent improvements in the hand-tracking feature offer an opportunity to closely examine the speed, accuracy, and consistency of fine hand movements and proprioceptive function. This study aims to investigate the application of virtual reality (VR) with hand tracking in the rapid quantification of reaching accuracy at the bedside for patients with cerebellar stroke (CS). Methods and results: Thirty individuals (10 CS patients and 20 age-matched neurologically healthy controls) performed a simple task that allowed us to measure reaching accuracy using a VR headset (Oculus Quest 2). During this task, the participant was asked to reach for a target placed along a horizontal sixty-degree arc. Once the fingertip passed through the arc, the target immediately extinguished. 50% of the trials displayed a visible, real-time rendering of the hand as the participant reached for the target (visible hand condition), while the remaining 50% only showed the target being extinguished (invisible hand condition). The invisible hand condition isolates proprioception-guided movements by removing the visibility of the participant's hand. Reaching error was calculated as the difference in degrees between the location of the target, and where the fingertip contacted the arc. Both CS patients and age-matched controls displayed higher average reaching error and took longer to perform a reaching motion in the invisible hand condition than in the visible hand condition. Reaching error was higher in CS than in controls in the invisible hand condition but not in the visible hand condition. Average time taken to perform each trial was higher in CS than in controls in the invisible hand conditions but not in the visible hand condition. Conclusions: Reaching accuracy assessed by VR offers a non-invasive and rapid approach to quantifying fine motor functions in clinical settings. Furthermore, this technology enhances our understanding of proprioceptive function in patients with visuomotor disabilities by allowing the isolation of proprioception from vision. Future studies with larger cohorts and longitudinal designs will examine the quantitative changes in reaching accuracy after stroke and explore the long-term benefits of VR in functional recovery. This study explores the development and pilot testing of an exergame designed for the rehabilitation of individuals with upper limb deficits. While traditional physiotherapy is effective, it often fails to fully engage patients due to its repetitive nature. This research integrates a novel exergame into physiotherapy regimens, aiming to enhance patient motivation through a gaming experience that complements conventional sessions. The exergame is structured around a narrative-driven adventure, with exercises embedded in gameplay that mirror adjustable physiotherapy routines. It utilizes the Myo armband, a wearable electromyography device, to capture muscle activity and movement. The system, part of a web-based platform, is easily deployable in various settings, including home environments. Comprehensive evaluations with health professionals and neurological patients indicate that the exergame significantly improves patient engagement. Understanding the perspectives of speech-language pathologists (SLPs) on maintenance is vital. As key agents in aphasia therapy, their views are crucial for understanding current practice, identifying service gaps, and informing future research on the maintenance of therapy gains.The aim of this research was to explore speech-language pathologists’ perspectives on maintaining therapy gains in chronic aphasia and to understand their beliefs about the factors that influence the maintenance of gains made during aphasia rehabilitation.In-depth semi-structured interviews were conducted with seven SLPs who worked with people with chronic aphasia. Inductive thematic data analysis was used to identify themes.Six themes were identified, representing SLPs’ beliefs about maintenance and their perceptions of factors important for preserving therapy gains in aphasia rehabilitation. These were: 1) Ongoing communication activity; 2) Meaningful person-centred goals; 3) The challenge of translating functional goals to participation; 4) Individual capacity and resource availability; 5) Home support; and 6) Services. The results illustrate the complexity and interplay of factors that may both facilitate and hinder the maintenance of therapy gains.SLPs in this study believe that aphasia rehabilitation interventions should involve meaningful, personalised, enjoyable real-life experiences to optimise maintenance of therapy gains. Remunerative employment (RE) is one of the optimal rehabilitation goals for people with spinal cord injury (SCI). However, there has been no study systematically determine the RE status and its related factors in Thais with chronic SCI.To cross-sectionally determine RE statuses and their influencing factors in Thais with chronic SCI.Data from a Thai arm of the International Spinal Cord Injury Community Survey (InSCI) were analyzed. The prevalence of RE and related work status were described.Of 223 individuals with chronic SCI whose age was less than 60 years included in this study, 79 (35%) were remunerative employed. Most of them (41, 54%) were self-employed. The most common reason for unemployment was related to health conditions or disabilities. Education year, attending vocational rehabilitation service, and admission≥2 times per year were independent influencing factors of RE with an odds ratio of 1.090, 2.534, and 0.418, respectively.Since education and vocational rehabilitation were the modifiable positive influencing factor of employment, educational and vocational rehabilitation programs should be formally established and universally applied together with medical rehabilitation to increase the prevalence of RE in people with SCI in Thailand. Background: Being diagnosed with Breast Cancer (BC) is a crisis that throws the patient's life out of balance. Cancer-related fatigue is a debilitating sign experienced by women during and after BC treatment. Regular physical exercise may help mitigate patients' fatigue, enhance coping abilities, improve their quality of life, and overall well-being. In parallel, psychological interventions are geared toward normalizing the lived painful experiences among oncology patients. Objective: to examine the effect of bundling seated exercises and psychoeducational rehabilitation using the teach-back approach on fatigue and coping of women postmastectomy. Methods: A quasi-experimental study was conducted in the Oncology Surgical Department and chemotherapy unit at the Alexandria Main University Hospital, Egypt. A total of 60 women were randomly allocated to either to the study or the control groups. Women in the study group practiced seated exercises and psychological rehabilitation interventions, including mindfulness breathing, problem-solving training, cognitive reframing technique, and thought stopping while the control group received the routine care. Results: The study revealed a significant decline in the fatigue mean scores among participants in the intervention group from 136.10 ± 27.76 to 98.43 ± 25.99 (p < 0.001). Similarly, there was a significant decrease in the patients' mean scores of maladaptive coping, helplessness/ hopelessness (p = 0.014), and anxious preoccupation (p = 0.008). In contrast, there is a noticeable increment in the scores of adaptive coping, such as fighting spirit (p = 0.012), cognitive avoidance (p = 0.002), and fatalism (p = 0.009). Conclusion: Bundling seated exercises and psychological rehabilitation interventions using the teach-back approach have been proven to be simple and inexpensive non-pharmacological methods of reducing cancer-related fatigue and improving coping skills among women post-mastectomy. Introduction: Possibilities Project Plus (PPPlus) is a free assistive device (AD) marketplace and research platform for persons with disabilities. The overall aim of PPPlus is to increase access to ADs through an integration of service, research and education. To maximize positive outcomes and reflect community needs a co-design approach informed by guiding principles of Integrated Knowledge Translation (IKT) was adopted, with examination of methods related to Experience Based Co-design. The integrated nature of PPPlus benefits from the use of specific engagement strategies that align with IKT principles to meet project objectives. The extent to which partnership and engagement strategies are specified in the rehabilitation research literature vary greatly and studies that provide information on specific strategies used to operationalize principles are limited. The objective of this manuscript is to provide a description of the co-design approach and the specific strategies that strive to achieve meaningful user engagement. By reflecting on these processes we also report on limitations and strategies for improvement. Methods: The co-design approach is highlighted through specific project activities including a representative governance structure, ongoing environmental scan and iterative Health Equity Impact Assessments (HEIA). The inherent engagement strategies that align with IKT and co-design principles are described. Discussion: The most impactful engagement strategies included early engagement of partners throughout all phases, ensuring project relevance across partners through alignment of objectives with complementary aims, using HEIAs to promote equitable outcomes from diverse stakeholders, the representative governance structure beyond individuals with disabilities and caregivers, and the use of experiences and stories to inform development. Next steps: This examination of specific strategies related to co-design focused on partnership engagement and informed targets for enhancement of the PPPlus initiative. These include being more intentional in developing a more rigorous process for evaluation that includes an assessment of strategies and their impact--especially as related to partner engagement. In addition, ongoing and enhanced efforts will focus on developing knowledge products that bring to life the most salient experience-based user stories emerging from the environmental scan with these being used to drive distinct co-creation events as well as serve other knowledge mobilization purposes (i.e., supporting policy change). Background • Nosocomial infections pose a significant global health challenge. Effective nursing management plays a pivotal role in hospital administration, with the quality of nursing closely linked to nosocomial infection rates. Objective • This study explores the impact of implementing high-quality nursing practices on nosocomial infection control. Design • A randomized controlled experiment was conducted. Setting • The study was conducted at the Fourth Affiliated Hospital of Nanjing Medical University. Participants • Between December 2021 and December 2022, 120 hospitalized patients were selected and randomly assigned to the control and research groups, each comprising 60 patients. Interventions • The control group received routine nursing, while the research group received high-quality nursing. Primary Outcome Measures • (1) Infection incidence rate, (2) psychological state of patients, (3) bacterial culture qualified rate, (4) health knowledge awareness, (5) nursing quality, (6) quality of life, and (7) patient satisfaction. Results • The research group exhibited a significantly lower infection incidence rate compared to the control group (P < .05). No significant differences were observed between the groups before nursing (P > .05). Post-nursing, SAS, and SDS scores decreased in both groups, with a more pronounced reduction in the research group (P < .05). The research group demonstrated an increased qualified rate of bacterial culture in various environments compared to the control group (P < .05). After nursing, both groups showed higher scores in disease knowledge, nosocomial infection knowledge, treatment and rehabilitation knowledge, and self-care management knowledge, with the research group scoring higher than the control group (P < .05). Quality of life scores, nursing quality scores, and nursing satisfaction were all higher in the research group compared to the control group (P < .05). Conclusions • High-quality nursing practices emerge as the preferred choice in nosocomial infection control and prevention. It prioritizes patients’ wishes and needs, offers comprehensive services, and respects patient autonomy; these measures contribute to a substantial reduction in nosocomial infections.
