Background: There is increasing global evidence on the impact of advanced nursing and midwifery practitioners, and Kenya's healthcare system has an excellent opportunity to develop scopes of practice and other regulatory frameworks for the integration of these roles. Objective: The primary purpose of this gap analysis was to explore the existing evidence on opportunities and threats toward the integration of the advanced practice nursing (APN) and advanced practice midwifery (APM) roles in Kenya's healthcare system. Methods: The study team conducted a structured electronic database search of PubMed, CINAHL, Scopus, EBSCOhost Academic Search Complete, and PsycINFO to retrieve articles and credible websites for reports highlighting the opportunities and threats toward the integration of the APN and APM roles in Kenya's healthcare systems. The retrieved articles were screened for relevance and synthesized for reporting using the traditional literature review approach. Results: The Kenya Health Policy Framework 2014–2030, growing population needs, and implementation of universal health coverage provide an opportunity to harness and leverage advanced practice roles in nursing and midwifery. There is also momentum to develop advanced practice because of strategic alliances and global evidence showing the contributions and quality of services offered by advanced practice nurses and advanced practice midwives. However, lack of financial support, structural challenges, and lack of national policies, regulations, and legislation continue to obstruct progress. Conclusion and implications for nursing policy: Developing scopes of practice for APN and APM in Kenya will benefit the professions, the country's healthcare delivery system, and the population. Background: There is no consensus on whether laparoscopic experience should be a prerequisite for robotic training. Further, there is limited information on skill transference between laparoscopic and robotic techniques. This study focused on the general surgery residents' learning curve and skill transference within the two minimally invasive platforms. Methods: General surgery residents were observed during the performance of laparoscopic and robotic inguinal hernia repairs. The recorded data included objective measures (operative time, resident participation indicated by percent active time on console or laparoscopy relative to total case time, number of handoffs between the resident and attending), and subjective evaluations (preceptor and trainee assessments of operative performance) while controlling for case complexity, patient comorbidities, and residents' prior operative experience. Wilcoxon two-sample tests and Pearson Correlation coefficients were used for analysis. Results: Twenty laparoscopic and forty-four robotic cases were observed. Mean operative times were 90 min for robotic and 95 min for laparoscopic cases (P = 0.4590). Residents' active participation time was 66% on the robotic platform and 37% for laparoscopic (P = < 0.0001). On average, hand-offs occurred 9.7 times during robotic cases and 6.3 times during laparoscopic cases (P = 0.0131). The mean number of cases per resident was 5.86 robotic and 1.67 laparoscopic (P = 0.0312). For robotic cases, there was a strong correlation between percent active resident participation and their prior robotic experience (r = 0.78) while there was a weaker correlation with prior laparoscopic experience (r = 0.47). On the other hand, prior robotic experience had minimal correlation with the percent active resident participation in laparoscopic cases (r = 0.12) and a weak correlation with prior laparoscopic experience (r = 0.37). Conclusion: The robotic platform may be a more effective teaching tool with a higher degree of entrustability indicated by the higher mean resident participation. We observed a greater degree of skill transference from laparoscopy to the robot, indicated by a higher degree of correlation between the resident's prior laparoscopic experience and the percent console time in robotic cases. There was minimal correlation between residents' prior robotic experience and their participation in laparoscopic cases. Our findings suggest that the learning curve for the robot may be shorter as prior robotic experience had a much stronger association with future robotic performance compared to the association observed in laparoscopy. Introduction: Disposable duodenoscopes and duodenoscopes with disposable endcaps are being used in clinical practice to reduce or eliminate the risk of transmitting infections. The study aim was to assess perceptions and experiences regarding the use of these duodenoscopes among advanced endoscopy fellows in a nationally representative sample. Methods: A 17-item electronic survey was sent to 74 advanced endoscopy training programs. The survey was completed by 50 participants and their responses were included for analysis. Results: Most participants were from academic training programs (82.7%) and identified as being in their 7th year of post graduate training (92%; PGY-7). Participants performed an average of 414 ERCPs. 29% reported difficulty with cannulation using disposable duodenoscopes versus 15.7% with duodenoscopes with disposable endcaps (vs. standard duodenoscope). 96% of trainees perceived disposable duodenoscopes as not cost effective and 92% stated they would not use this device during independent practice. 100% of trainees stated that they would use duodenoscopes with disposable endcaps during independent practice. For their most challenging cases, 90% of trainees preferred using standard reprocessable duodenoscopes while no trainee indicated they would prefer using a disposable duodenoscope in this scenario. 82% of participants stated that disposable duodenoscopes and disposable endcaps should be used exclusively or preferentially for high-risk patients citing cost, functionality, and concerns regarding environmental impact. Discussion: Advanced endoscopy fellows perceive disposable duodenoscopes as impacting technical maneuverability. The "hidden curriculum" in medical school includes a stressful work environment, un‐empathic role models, and prioritisation of biomedical knowledge. It can provoke anxiety and cause medical students to adapt by becoming cynical, distanced and less empathic. Lower empathy, in turn, has been shown to harm patients as well as practitioners. Fortunately, evidence‐based interventions can counteract the empathy dampening effects of the hidden curriculum. These include early exposure to real patients, providing students with real‐world experiences, training role models, assessing empathy training, increasing the focus on the biopsychosocial model of disease, and enhanced wellbeing education. Here, we provide an overview of these interventions. Taken together, they can bring about an "empathic hidden curriculum" which can reverse the decline in medical student empathy. Introduction: Simulation training is an important component of medical education. In former studies, diagnostic simulation training for direct and indirect funduscopy was already proven to be an effective training method. In this prospective controlled trial, we investigated the effect of simulator-based fundus biomicroscopy training. Methods: After completing a 1-week ophthalmology clerkship, medical students at Saarland University Medical Center (n = 30) were block-randomized into two groups: The traditional group received supervised training examining the fundus of classmates using a slit lamp; the simulator group was trained using the Slit Lamp Simulator. All participants had to pass an Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE); two masked ophthalmological faculty trainers graded the students' skills when examining patient's fundus using a slit lamp. A subjective assessment form and post-assessment surveys were obtained. Data were described using median (interquartile range [IQR]). Results: Twenty-five students (n = 14 in the simulator group, n = 11 in the traditional group) (n = 11) were eligible for statistical analysis. Interrater reliability was verified as significant for the overall score as well as for all subtasks (≤ 0.002) except subtask 1 (p = 0.12). The overall performance of medical students in the fundus biomicroscopy OSCE was statistically ranked significantly higher in the simulator group (27.0 [5.25]/28.0 [3.0] vs. 20.0 [7.5]/16.0 [10.0]) by both observers with an interrater reliability of IRR < 0.001 and a significance level of p = 0.003 for observer 1 and p < 0.001 for observer 2. For all subtasks, the scores given to students trained using the simulator were consistently higher than those given to students trained traditionally. The students' post-assessment forms confirmed these results. Students could learn the practical backgrounds of fundus biomicroscopy (p = 0.04), the identification (p < 0.001), and localization (p < 0.001) of pathologies significantly better with the simulator. Conclusions: Traditional supervised methods are well complemented by simulation training. Enteral resuscitation (EResus) is operationally advantageous to intravenous resuscitation for burn-injured patients in some low-resource settings. However, there is minimal guidance and no training materials for EResus tailored to non-burn care providers. We aimed to develop and consumer-test a training flipbook with doctors and nurses in Nepal to aid broader dissemination of this life-saving technique. We used individual cognitive interviews with Nepali (n = 12) and international (n = 4) burn care experts to define key elements of EResus and specific concepts for its operationalization at primary health centers and first-level hospitals in Nepal. Content, prototype illustrations, and wireframe layouts were developed and revised with the burn care experts. Subsequently, eight consumer testing focus groups with Nepali stakeholders (5–10 people each) were facilitated. Prompts were generated using the Questionnaire Appraisal System (QAS) framework. The flipbook was iteratively revised and tested based on consumer feedback organized according to the domains of clarity, assumptions, knowledge/memory, and sensitivity/bias. The flipbook elements were iterated until consumers made no additional requests for changes. Examples of consumer inputs included: clarity—minimize medical jargon, add shrunken organs and wilted plants to represent burn shock; assumptions—use locally representative figures, depict oral rehydration salts sachet instead of a graduated bottle; knowledge/memory—clarify complex topics, use Rule-of-9 s and depict approximately 20% total body surface area to indicate the threshold for resuscitation; sensitivity/bias—reduce anatomic illustration details (e.g. urinary catheter placement, body contours). Stakeholder engagement, consumer testing, and iterative revision can generate knowledge translation products that reflect contextually appropriate education materials for inexperienced burn providers. Objective Behavioral performance of health professionals is essential for adequate patient care. This study aimed to assess the behavioral skills of fellows in neonatology before and after a simulation training program on neonatal resuscitation. Study Design From March 2019 to February 2020, a prospective cohort with 12 second-year fellows in neonatology were evaluated during three training cycles (16 hours each) in manikin-based simulation of neonatal resuscitation with standardized scenarios. Each cycle lasted 1 month, followed by a 3-month interval. One video-recorded scenario of approximately 10 minutes was performed for each fellow at the beginning and at the end of each training cycle. Therefore, each fellow was recorded six times, before and after each one of three training cycles. Anxiety of the fellows was assessed by the Beck Anxiety Inventory applied before the first training cycle. The videos were independently analyzed in a random order by three trained facilitators using the Behavioral Assessment Tool. The behavioral performance was evaluated by repeated measures of analysis of variance adjusted for anxiety and for previous experience in neonatal resuscitation. Results Fellows' overall behavioral performance improved comparing the moment before the first training and after the second training. The specific skills, such as communication with the team, delegation of tasks, allocation of attention, use of information, use of resources, and professional posture, showed a significant improvement after the second month of training. No further gains were noted with the third training cycle. Anxiety was observed in 42% of the fellows and its presence worsened their behavioral performance. Conclusion An improvement in behavioral performance was observed, comparing the moment before the first training and after the second training, without further gains after the third training. It is worth noting the important role of anxiety as a modulator of acquisition and retention of behavioral skills in health professionals in training. The involvement of service users in social work education is longstanding, and there exists a rich body of research which explores the perceptions, attitudes and experiences of service users, academics and students in relation to this involvement. However, existing reviews of the literature conclude that few studies examine the impact of service user involvement in education on subsequent social work practice. This scoping review takes a broader approach, by mapping research which evaluates the impact on practice of service user involvement in education across domains of health and social care. Utilising the PRISMA guidance on scoping reviews, we conducted a systematic search of articles published between 2003 and 2021. The search generated six qualitative and three mixed methods studies for inclusion, which were analysed using narrative synthesis. All studies supported the claim that involvement of service users in professional education can make a constructive contribution to practice. The review highlights four themes from the studies: the application of transformative learning; impact on outcomes; influence on organisational practice; and challenges to integrating learning into practice. These themes provide a foundation for identifying potential future directions for research and pedagogical practice on service user involvement within social work education. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Introduction: Team‐based learning (TBL) is a well‐established active teaching method which has been shown to have pedagogical advantages in some areas such as business education and preclinical disciplines in undergraduate medical education. Increasingly, it has been adapted to clinical disciplines. However, its superiority over conventional learning methods used in clinical years of medical school remains unclear. The aim of this study was to compare TBL with traditional seminars delivered in small group interactive learning (SIL) format in terms of knowledge acquisition and retention, satisfaction and engagement of undergraduate medical students during the 6‐week obstetrics and gynecology clerkship. Material and methods: The study was conducted at Karolinska Institutet, a medical university in Sweden, and had a prospective, crossover design. All fifth‐year medical students attending the obstetrics and gynecology clerkship, at four different teaching hospitals in Stockholm (approximately 40 students per site), in the Autumn semester of 2022 were invited to participate. Two seminars (one in obstetrics and one in gynecology) were designed and delivered in two different formats, ie TBL and SIL. The student:teacher ratio was approximately 10:1 in the traditional SIL seminars and 20:1 in the TBL. All TBL seminars were facilitated by a single teacher who had been trained and certified in TBL. Student knowledge acquisition and retention were assessed by final examination scores, and the engagement and satisfaction were assessed by questionnaires. For the TBL seminars, individual and team readiness assurance tests were also performed and evaluated. Results: Of 148 students participating in the classrooms, 132 answered the questionnaires. No statistically significant differences were observed between TBL and SIL methods with regard to student knowledge acquisition and retention, engagement and satisfaction. Conclusions: We found no differences in student learning outcomes or satisfaction using TBL or SIL methods. However, as TBL had a double the student to teacher ratio as compared with SIL, in settings where teachers are scarce and suitable rooms are available for TBL sessions, the method may be beneficial in reducing faculty workload without compromising students' learning outcomes. Objective: Trainees and Fellows of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists (RANZCP) work in complex interpersonal and organisational environments. Engagement in supervision can be a helpful way for trainees and Fellows to achieve interpersonal, professional, and organisational success. Supervision comes in many forms depending on the stage and state of one's career. An awareness of different supervision models is relevant to trainees' understanding of what is expected of them and their supervisors in their work and educational contexts. This paper explores the taxonomy of supervision models available to RANZCP trainees and Fellows in Australia and New Zealand. Objective: This paper aims to provide an introductory resource for beginner peer reviewers in psychiatry and the broader biomedical science field. It will provide a concise overview of the peer review process, alongside some reviewing tips and tricks. Conclusion: The peer review process is a fundamental aspect of biomedical science publishing. The model of peer review offered varies between journals and usually relies on a pool of volunteers with differing levels of expertise and scope. The aim of peer review is to collaboratively leverage reviewers' collective knowledge with the objective of increasing the quality and merit of published works. The limitations, methodology and need for transparency in the peer review process are often poorly understood. Although imperfect, the peer review process provides some degree of scientific rigour by emphasising the need for an ethical, comprehensive and systematic approach to reviewing articles. Purpose: In order to explore clinical pharmacology and therapeutics (CPT) teaching and practices across continental Europe, the European Association of Clinical Pharmacology and Therapeutics (EACPT) made a survey in 2022 amongst its 27 affiliated societies. Methods: The survey was made available online to EACPT representatives, and 47 filled-in questionnaires were received from 25 countries (one to five per country), representing all geographic areas of Europe. Results: Clinical pharmacologists (CPs) spend 25%, 30%, 15%, and 25% of their time in teaching, hospital activities, committees, and research, respectively, with large variations across and within countries. CPT courses are given at Schools of Medicine in all the countries except one, mostly organized and taught by medical doctors (MDs). In Central, Western, and Southern Europe, the teachers may have medicine or pharmacy training. Therapeutic drug monitoring and pharmacovigilance were the hospital activities most frequently reported, and clinical/forensic toxicology, rounds of visits, and pharmacogenetics the least. Two-thirds of the panel think CPs should be MDs. However, the transversal nature of CPT was underlined, with patients/diseases and drugs as gravity centres, thus calling for the complementary skills of MDs and PharmDs. Besides, most respondents reported that clinical pharmacists in their country are involved in rounds of visits, pharmacovigilance, TDM, and/or pharmacogenetic testing and that collaborations with them would be beneficial. Conclusion: CPT comes with a plurality of backgrounds and activities, all required to embrace the different pathologies and the whole lifecycle of medicinal products, but all of them being rarely performed in any given country. Objectives: There is concern that junior doctors are not prepared for their post-graduate attachments in ENT. The aims of this study were to capture the learning priorities of those in the ENT first on-call role and facilitate further educational opportunities to address these needs. Method: Semi-structured interviews were undertaken to explore the learning needs of junior doctors with seven junior and two senior ENT clinicians. Results: The thematic analysis generated three themes: the role of the ENT Junior; the perceived, expressed and prescribed learning needs; and attitudes towards future learning. These themes explored the misalignment between undergraduate training and post-graduate expectations, the lack of competence in ENT practical skills and the need for focused ENT training prior to commencing on-call shifts. Conclusion: All interviewees identified the need for greater experience in practical interventional skills prior to their ENT attachments and expressed interest towards a standardised, bootcamp-style induction with simulated emergency experience. Objective: Developing skills in rigid endoscopy poses challenges to the surgical trainee. This study investigates whether a modified manikin can improve the technical skill of junior operators by providing direct quantitative feedback. Methods: A force-sensing pad was incorporated into the oral cavity of a life support manikin. Junior trainees and senior otolaryngologists were invited to perform rigid endoscopy and received real-time feedback from the force sensor during the procedure. Results: There was a significant inverse correlation between operator seniority and the weight applied to the oral cavity (p < 0.0001). All junior trainee operators applied less weight after five attempts (346 ± 90.95 g) compared to their first attempt (464 ± 85.79 g). This gave a statistically significant decrease of 118 g (standard deviation = 107.27 g, p = 0.007) when quantitative feedback was provided to learning operators. Background: Integrated teaching among undergraduate medical students is an educational approach that combines various disciplines of medicine, into a cohesive curriculum. This approach fosters critical thinking, problem-solving skills, and prepares students for the complexities of healthcare practice. Aim and Objective: To study the perception on Integrated teaching approach in medical education among undergraduate medical students and to compare Integrated teaching over traditional classroom teaching. Materials and Methods: A cross-sectional study was undertaken employing a self-administered, semistructured questionnaire, which underwent standardization through testing with 50 medical students. Following Ethical Clearance from the Institutional Ethical Committee, the questionnaire was formatted into Google Forms and distributed among medical students via social media platforms. The study spanned from February 15, 2023 to May 15, 2023. Participant responses were recorded for subsequent analysis, with a total of 454 students contributing to the study. The research aimed to explore various facets, including participants' demographic profiles, perceptions of the Integrated Teaching (IT) approach, suggestions for enhancing IT, and alternative teaching methodologies. Results: This study involved 454 participants, with a gender distribution: 202 males (44.5%) and 252 females (55.5%). The average age of the participants was 21.5 years, with a standard deviation of 1.5 years. Regarding academic year distribution, 26.44% were in their 1st year, 24.89% in their 3rd year, 24.45% in their 2nd year, and 24.22% in their 4th year. Regarding perception on Integrated Teaching (IT), 83.7% of participants held favourable views towards Integrated Teaching (IT) methodologies, more than half, 63.9% preferred it over traditional teaching methods, while 36.1% did not. The preference for Integrated Teaching was consistent across genders, with 44.82% of males and 55.18% of females, and this difference was not statistically significant (p < 0.848). Furthermore, a significant portion of participants expressed a desire to enhance Integrated Teaching. This included increasing the frequency of topics and classes related to Integrated Teaching. Additionally, participants recommended incorporating various teaching methods alongside Integrated Teaching, such as seminars (68.9% of respondents), group discussions (55.7%), and interactive sessions (45%). Conclusion: Overall, the study underscores the importance of considering student preferences and suggestions in the design and implementation of educational methods, particularly in promoting effective learning experiences through Integrated Teaching. Background Gender bias in graduate medical evaluations remains a challenging issue. This study evaluates implicit gender bias in video-based evaluations of microsurgical technique, which has not previously been described in the literature. Methods Two videos were recorded of microsurgical anastomosis; the first was performed by a hand/microsurgery fellow and the second by an expert microsurgeon. A total of 150 surgeons with microsurgical experience were recruited to evaluate the videos; they were told these videos depicted a surgical trainee 1 month into fellowship followed by the same trainee 10 months later. The only variable was the name ("Rachel" or "David") that each participant was randomly assigned to evaluate. Participants were asked to score each video for quality, technique, efficiency, as well as overall progression and development after the second video compared with the initial video. To focus on bias, these outcome measures were selected to be purposefully subjective and all ratings were based on a subjective 1to 10 scale (10 = excellent). Results The analysis included 150 participants (75% male). There were no statistically significant differences in scores between the "female" and "male" trainee. The trainees received the same median initial (1-month video) and final (11th-month video) scores for all criteria except initial technique, in which the female trainee received a 7 and the male trainee received an 8. Notably, 11-month scores were consistently the same or lower than 1-month scores for both study groups (p < 0.001). There were also no differences within either study group based on participant sex. Microsurgery practitioners overall rated both groups lower than those who do not currently practice microsurgery. Conclusion Our study did not identify a gender bias in this evaluation method. Pediatric and adolescent gynecology (PAG) is a unique subspecialty for which accessible educational resources and clinical exposure have historically been limited; surveys show that trainees in both obstetrics and gynecology and pediatrics agree. In 2014, the North American Society for Pediatric and Adolescent Gynecology (NASPAG) introduced PAG WebEd, an original and interactive online case-based curriculum designed to bridge this learning gap. As of 2023, there are 35 published PAG WebEd clinical cases with key learning points that present, test, and discuss a variety of current PAG topics. The NASPAG Resident Education Committee (REC) compiled and reviewed administrative data from the module platform to investigate trainee utilization and performance. The activity data and assessment scores for 161 registered users are included and reported in this article. This brief report highlights that a relatively small number of medical trainees use PAG WebEd and aims to raise awareness of this resource through publication. There is potential for many more users to benefit from this resource; its efficacy as an examination and clinical practice tool could also be measured. Multiple professional societies have emphasized the importance of professional development for physicians. This qualitative study aimed to explore pediatric hospitalists' perceptions of professional development needs and to refine a framework for professional development in pediatric hospital medicine (PHM). We conducted four focus groups in April to May 2019 with 19 pediatric hospitalists at six clinical sites within a single institution. Participants identified key components of professional development including skill development, personal growth, career satisfaction, and individualization. Hospitalists agreed upon 8 domains of professional development: clinical excellence, advocacy, global health, health care administration, informatics, medical education, quality improvement, and research. They also identified missing the mentorship necessary to change their passions into career advancement, highlighted barriers and facilitators, and noted that an alignment in personally meaningful projects to what is meaningful to the institution was in everyone's best interests. Objective: This study explored how the Syrian crisis, training conditions, and relocation influenced the National Medical Examination (NME) scores of final‐year medical students. Methods: Results of the NME were used to denote the performance of final‐year medical students between 2014 and 2021. The NME is a mandatory standardised test that measures the knowledge and competence of students in various clinical subjects. We categorised the data into two periods: period‐I (2014–2018) and period‐II (2019–2021). Period‐I represents students who trained under hostile circumstances, which refer to the devastating effects of a decade‐long Syrian crisis. Period‐II represents post‐hostilities phase, which is marked by a deepening economic crisis. Results: Collected data included test scores for a total of 18 312 final‐year medical students from nine medical schools (from six public and three private universities). NME scores improved significantly in period‐II compared with period‐I tests (p < 0.0001). Campus location or relocation during the crisis affected the results significantly, with higher scores from students of medical schools located in lower‐risk regions compared with those from medical schools located in high‐risk regions (p < 0.0001), both during and in the post‐hostilities phases. Also, students of medical schools re‐located to lesser‐risk regions scored significantly less than those of medical schools located in high‐risk regions (p < 0.0001), but their scores remained inferior to that of students of medical schools that were originally located in lower‐risk regions (p < 0.0001). Conclusion: Academic performance of final year medical students can be adversely affected by crises and conflicts, with a clear tendency to recovery upon crises resolution. The study underscores the importance of maintaining and safeguarding the infrastructure of educational institutions, especially during times of crisis. Much innovation has taken place in the development of medical schools and licensure exam processes across the African continent. Still, little attention has been paid to education that enables the multidisciplinary, critical thinking needed to understand and help shape the larger social systems in which health care is delivered. Although more than half of medical schools in Canada, the United Kingdom, and the United States offer at least one medical humanities course, this is less common in Africa. We report on the "liberal arts approach" to medical curricula undertaken by the University of Global Health Equity beginning in 2019. The first six-month semester of the curriculum, called Foundations in Social Medicine, includes courses in critical thinking and communication, African history and global political economy, medical anthropology and social medicine, psychology and health, gender and social justice, information technology and health, and community-based training. Additionally, an inquiry-based pedagogy with relatively small classes is featured within an overall institutional culture that emphasizes health equity. We identify key competencies for physicians interested in pursuing global health equity and how such competencies relate to liberal arts integration into the African medical school curriculum and pedagogical approach. Health disparities education is an integral and required part of medical professional training, and yet existing curricula often fail to effectively denaturalize injustice or empower learners to advocate for change. We discuss a novel collaborative intervention that weds the health humanities to the field of health equity. We draw from the health humanities an intentional focus retraining provider imaginations by centering patient narratives; from the field of health equity, we draw the linkage between stigmatized social identities and health disparities. We describe a longitudinal health equity curriculum for the Hospice and Palliative Medicine fellowship in Memphis, Tennessee, to give trainees exposure to the concept of structural violence and how it affects clinical care. The curriculum was developed in partnership with humanities and social sciences faculty who staff a Health Equity academic program at a small liberal arts college in Memphis. This curriculum has been implemented for the past four years in support of 22 hospice and palliative medicine fellows. Group debriefs and a mixed methods survey have revealed widespread and lasting impact towards understanding health equity concepts, enhanced communication and treatment of patients, and empowerment to address the broader needs and policies affecting patients and the communities in which they live. Ultimately, we model an educational initiative that integrates equity across the full scope of healthcare practice and equips learners with skills for sustaining compassionate practices, focusing on equity-oriented, person-centered care across the full scope of healthcare practice. Training residents to become humanistic physicians capable of empathy, compassionate communication, and holistic patient care is among our most important tasks as physician educators. Narrative medicine aims to foster those highly desirable characteristics, and previous studies have shown it to be successful in fostering self-reflection, emotional processing, and preventing burnout. We aimed to evaluate pediatric residents' perceptions of a novel narrative medicine curriculum. After the initiation of a longitudinal narrative medicine curriculum, focus groups were conducted with residents who participated in at least one narrative medicine session. The curriculum was viewed positively, and residents found the sessions to be helpful in developing empathy, offering a space for reflection, and introducing new perspectives. Challenges noted were perception of relevance, timing of sessions, and interpretation by non-native English-speaking residents. With attention to linguistics and thematic undertones, narrative medicine is a feasible, replicable, and accepted teaching modality for pediatric residents to foster empathy, process emotions, and participate in self-reflection. Purpose: The incoming Canadian cohort of medical students is comprised mainly of individuals from Generation Z (Gen Z; born between 1997 and 2012), with greater than 50% of applicants identifying as female. A gap remains in our understanding of Gen Z women learners in their challenges in navigating medical education, their expectations for their medical careers and the influences that have impacted their worldview. This study explored the needs, values, and experiences of Gen Z women medical students and the impact of these factors on mentorship expectations among this population that will soon be entering the workforce. Methods: Upon receiving ethics approval from the University of Toronto Research Ethics Board, semi‐structured interviews were conducted (February–May 2021) with 15 Gen Z women students from 14 English‐speaking Canadian medical schools who had given written consent to participate. An iterative constant comparative team approach was utilised in which the interview guide and sampling were adjusted as the data evolved. Transcripts were line by line coded into categories, then grouped into themes using descriptive analysis. Results: These socially aware learners described how society had afforded them greater opportunities for expression, which gave them a sense of feeling advantaged over older generations. However, participants paradoxically expressed feelings of powerlessness and commented on tensions they experienced when interacting with older generation physician mentors, especially during conversations on social justice issues. They also highlighted instances of biased mentorship specific to their gender. Participants emphasised a desire for inclusive mentorship that considered the mentee's identity and intersectionality. Conclusions: The growing number of women learners in Canadian medical schools necessitates a re‐evaluation of mentorship delivery. Background: Transitions of patient care from the inpatient to outpatient setting is a high‐risk time often resulting in medical errors and adverse events. Transitions of care programmes have been demonstrated to reduce negative outcomes. Several professional societies have highlighted care transitions as a central pillar of patient care and therefore a crucial aspect of health professional education; however, little data exist on medical student education in this area. Approach: The Transitions of Care Curriculum was developed and delivered to all Harvard Medical School Core I Internal Medicine Clerkship students at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, Boston, MA between January 2017 and March 2019, where 12–14 students participated each quarter and included didactic teaching followed by experiential learning. Student data were collected via postclerkship survey. Patient data were collected via chart review. Student self‐reported comfort level with transitions in care skills and medical errors were analysed. Evaluation: All student measures related to comfort with transitions in care skills demonstrated statistically significant improvement after curriculum participation(p < 0.001). Of the patients with a completed postdischarge note, students identified ≥1 postdischarge related issue in 33 of 70 patients, with multiple issues identified in many of these patients. Seventy‐six total issues were identified. Implications: The Transitions of Care Curriculum demonstrated promising student and patient outcomes, suggesting that students can successfully learn and advance clinical skills while having a positive impact on a highly needed and important aspect of patient care by reducing postdischarge errors and adverse events. Background: Point‐of‐care ultrasound is an invaluable bedside tool for anesthesiologists and has been integrated into anesthesiology residency training and board certification in the United States. Little is known about point‐of‐care ultrasound training practices in pediatric anesthesia fellowship programs. Aims: To describe the current state of point‐of‐care ultrasound education in pediatric anesthesia fellowship programs in the United States. Methods: We conducted a cross‐sectional survey study distributed to 60 American Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education‐accredited pediatric anesthesia fellowship programs. Two programs were in their initial accreditation period and were excluded due to lack of historical data. Program directors or associate program directors were invited to complete this 23‐item survey. Results: Thirty‐three of fifty‐eight programs (57%) completed the survey. Of those, 15 programs (45%) reported having a point‐of‐care ultrasound curriculum. Programs with ≤3 fellows per year were less likely to have an ultrasound curriculum compared to programs with ≥4 fellows per year (30% programs 0–3 fellows/year vs. 69% programs ≥4 fellows/year, odds ratio 0.19 [95% confidence intervals 0.04–0.87]; p =.03). Program directors and associate program directors rated point‐of‐care ultrasound training as highly valuable to fellows' education. Barriers to use most commonly included lack of experience (64%), lack of oversight/interpretive guidance (58%), and lack of time (45%). Programs without point‐of‐care ultrasound training had significantly higher odds of listing lack of ultrasound access as a primary barrier (50% programs without vs. 13% programs with, odds ratio 6.5, [95% confidence intervals 1.3–50]; p =.04). Conclusions: This observational survey‐based study suggests that fewer than half of pediatric anesthesia training programs in the United States offer point‐of‐care ultrasound education. AbstractMedical trainee well-being is often met with generalized solutions that overlook substantial individual variations in mental health predisposition and stress reactivity. Precision medicine leverages individual environmental, genetic, and lifestyle factors to tailor preventive and therapeutic interventions. In addition, an exclusive focus on clinical mental illness tends to disregard the importance of supporting the positive aspects of medical trainee well-being. We introduce a novel precision well-being framework for medical education that is built on a comprehensive and individualized view of mental health, combining measures from mental health and positive psychology in a unified, data-driven framework. Unsupervised machine learning techniques commonly used in precision medicine were applied to uncover patterns within multidimensional mental health data of medical students. Using data from 3,632 US medical students, clusters were formulated based on recognized metrics for depression, anxiety, and flourishing. The analysis identified three distinct clusters. Membership in the ‘Healthy Flourishers’ well-being phenotype was associated with no signs of anxiety or depression while simultaneously reporting high levels of flourishing. Students in the ‘Getting By’ cluster reported mild anxiety and depression and diminished flourishing. Membership in the ‘At-Risk’ cluster was associated with high anxiety and depression, languishing, and increased suicidality. Nearly half (49%) of the medical students surveyed were classified as 'Healthy Flourishers’, whereas 36% were grouped into the 'Getting-By’ cluster and 15% were identified as 'At-Risk’. Findings show that a substantial portion of medical students report diminished well-being during their studies, with a significant number struggling with mental health challenges. This novel precision well-being framework represents an integrated empirical model that classifies individual medical students into distinct and meaningful well-being phenotypes based on their holistic mental health. This approach has direct applicability to student support and can be used to evaluate the effectiveness of personalized intervention strategies stratified by cluster membership. Background: Emergency medicine (EM) physicians routinely care for patients with serious life-limiting illnesses. Educating EM residents to have general skills and competencies in palliative medicine is a global priority. The purpose of this study was to describe the current status of palliative and end-of-life education in EM residency programs in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and to identify barriers and opportunities to inculcating palliative care (PC) instruction into EM training in a non-Western setting. Methods: Using the American College of Emergency Medicine's milestones for Hospice and Palliative Medicine for Emergency Medicine as a question guide, semi-structured interviews were conducted with program directors of all 7 EM residency programs in the UAE from January through July 2023. Qualitative content analysis was conducted to identify recurring themes. Results: All program directors agreed that PC knowledge and skills are essential components of training for EM residents but have had variable success in implementing a structured PC curriculum. Six themes emerged, namely the educational curriculum, PC policies and practices, comprehensive PC services, cultural and religious barriers to PC, EM scope of practice, and supporting residents after patient death. Conclusion: UAE national EM residency curriculum development is evolving with an emphasis on developing a structured PC curriculum. As EM residencies implement policies and programs to improve care for patients and families dealing with serious illness, future studies are needed to assess the impact of these initiatives on patient quality of life and physician well-being. OBJECTIVE: The COVID-19 pandemic led to many changes across medical organizations and graduate medical education programs nationwide including the rapid implementation of telemedicine as a modality for delivering health care. The purpose of this study was to investigate the telemedicine experiences of residents and fellows with their self-reported level of preparedness, impact on their education including precepting, skill development, and patient-physician relationships, and perceptions of telehealth platforms and curricula in the future. METHODS: A total of 365 Mayo Clinic residents and fellows across three sites (Florida, Arizona, and Minnesota) were identified as trainees who conducted at least one telemedicine encounter from January 1, 2020 to June 30, 2020 and were sent an electronic survey by e-mail. RESULTS: There was a total of 103 completed surveys across various specialties with 58.3% female respondents, 63.1% residents, 35.0% fellows and 77.7% of respondents who attended medical school in the United States. Most trainees reported having very little to no exposure to telemedicine in their medical careers before the pandemic. The majority were satisfied with their first telemedicine encounter and found precepting comparable to in-person visits. The trainees in this study had a favorable view with 98.1% believing telemedicine will play a more prevalent role in the future and most agreed this should be included in medical school and residency training. CONCLUSION: Our survey found that after the implementation of telemedicine during the COVID-19 pandemic, the experiences of trainees at a multi-site academic center were overall positive. More research is needed on the perceptions of skill development (physical exam and history taking) during a telemedicine encounter and outlining an optimal telemedicine curriculum that can improve confidence in trainees. Prenatal shunting methods, specifically vesicoamniotic shunting (VAS) and fetal cystoscopy, aim to manage this condition. However, comprehensive education and training are hindered by the rarity of LUTO. To address this gap, we present a low‐cost 3D‐printed ultrasound training model for VAS in LUTO fetuses. The aim of the study was to evaluate ultrasound and haptic fidelity of the model.Ultrasound images of three LUTO fetuses at 12–14 weeks were utilized to create detailed 3D‐printed models. Fusion360TM software generated stereo‐lithography files, and the Formlabs Form3® printer, using Flexible 80A resin, produced the models. A simulation box mimicking uterine conditions and fetal anatomy was developed for testing. Ultrasound assessments determined model accuracy, and expert evaluations gauged fidelity for VAS placement.The 3D‐printed model accurately replicated LUTO fetal anatomy, demonstrating structural integrity and realistic sonographic and haptic feedback during 20 punctures. Macroscopic visualization confirmed the model's durability and authenticity.This innovative 3D‐printed model addresses the scarcity of LUTO cases and the lack of realistic training tools. Aim Methods Results Conclusions Medical residency training is associated with a range of sociodemographic, lifestyle and mental health factors that may confer higher risk for psychotic‐like experiences (PLEs) in residents, yet little research has examined this question. Thus, we aimed to document the prevalence and associated factors of PLEs among resident physicians.Physicians enrolled in residency programmes in the Province of Québec, Canada (four universities) were recruited in Fall 2022 via their programme coordinators and social media. They completed an online questionnaire assessing PLEs in the past 3 months (the 15‐item Community Assessment of Psychic Experiences), as well as sociodemographic characteristics, lifestyle and mental health. Analyses included survey weights and gamma regressions.The sample included 502 residents (mean age, 27.6 years; 65.9% women). Only 1.3% (95% CI: 0.5%, 4.0%) of residents met the screening cut‐off for psychotic disorder. Factors associated with higher scores for PLEs included racialised minority status (relative difference: +7.5%; 95% CI: +2.2%, +13.2%) and English versus French as preferred language (relative difference: +7.9% 95% CI: +3.1%, +12.9%), as well as each additional point on scales of depression (relative difference: +0.8%; 95% CI: +0.3%, +1.3%) and anxiety (relative difference: +1.3%; 95% CI: +0.8%, +1.7%). In secondary analyses, racialised minority status was associated with persecutory items, but not with other PLEs. Gender, residency programmes and lifestyle variables were not associated with PLEs.This study found low reports of PLEs in a sample of resident physicians. We investigated whether candidate racial appearances influenced examiner ratings in undergraduate clinical exams.We used an internet-based design. Examiners watched a randomised set of six videos of three different white candidates and three different non-white (Asian, black and Chinese) candidates taking a clinical history at either fail, borderline or pass grades. We compared the median and interquartile range (IQR) of the paired difference between scores for the white and non-white candidates at each performance grade and tested for statistical significance.160 Examiners participated. At the fail grade, the black and Chinese candidates scored lower than the white candidate, with median paired differences of −2.5 and −1 respectively (both p < 0.001). At the borderline grade, the black and Chinese candidates scored higher than the white candidate, with median paired differences of +2 and +3, respectively (both p < 0.001). Abstract\nPRACTICING POINTSPurpose: Virtual interactive 3-dimensional models (VI3DM) and immersive virtual reality are implemented in medical education and surgical training. VI3DM allow learners to view and interact with a virtual 3D object and help in conceptualising learning objectives that demand high cognitive and visuo-spatial skills. However, the effects of VI3DM in medical education are unknown. We aimed to determine whether VI3DM are helpful in conceptualising complex anatomical structures. Materials and methods: We included 5 specimens, which were assessed by 200 first-year medical students categorised into experimental (n = 100) and control (n = 100) groups using a systemic randomisation method after matching for age and sex. The experimental group was given VI3DM as interventional learning resources while the control group was given 2-dimensional photographs as conventional learning resources for self-directed learning for 30 minutes. Participants completed a questionnaire before and after the learning session to assess their knowledge related to external features, attachments, and relations of anatomical specimens. Results: The scores of the experimental group improved significantly in the post-test compared to those of the control group for all 5 specimens included in the study (p < 0.05, confidence interval = 95%, unpaired student’s t-test). It is well-established that GP trainees do not feel confident when transitioning to independent practice. In 2019, the Nottinghamshire GP Phoenix Programme Trainee Transition Scheme (TTS) was established to improve this transition and encourage local retention of newly qualified GPs. The TTS has been evaluated by surveying a total of 344 trainees from August 2022 to August 2023 using an electronic Google Form. Two-thirds of the trainees surveyed felt the mix of TTS-led non-clinical topics and trainee-led clinical topics taught during their locality time were useful for their learning. 72% felt that the TTS would influence their decision to remain working locally after qualification. Background: The current paradigm of competency-based medical education and learner-centredness requires learners to take an active role in their training. However, deliberate and planned continual assessment and performance improvement is hindered by the fragmented nature of many medical training programs. Attempts to bridge this continuity gap between supervision and feedback through learner handover have been controversial. Learning plans are an alternate educational tool that helps trainees identify their learning needs and facilitate longitudinal assessment by providing supervisors with a roadmap of their goals. Informed by self-regulated learning theory, learning plans may be the answer to track trainees' progress along their learning trajectory. The purpose of this study is to summarise the literature regarding learning plan use specifically in undergraduate medical education and explore the student's role in all stages of learning plan development and implementation. Methods: Following Arksey and O'Malley's framework, a scoping review will be conducted to explore the use of learning plans in undergraduate medical education. Literature searches will be conducted using multiple databases by a librarian with expertise in scoping reviews. Through an iterative process, inclusion and exclusion criteria will be developed and a data extraction form refined. Data will be analysed using quantitative and qualitative content analyses. Discussion: By summarising the literature on learning plan use in undergraduate medical education, this study aims to better understand how to support self-regulated learning in undergraduate medical education. The results from this project will inform future scholarly work in competency-based medical education at the undergraduate level and have implications for improving feedback and supporting learners at all levels of competence. The Johns Hopkins Learning Environment Scale (JHLES) was developed by Robert B. Shochet, Jorie M. Colbert and Scott M. Wright of the Johns hopkins university school of medicine and consists of 28 items used to evaluate perception of the academic environment. The objective was to translate and adapt the JHLES to Polish cultural conditions and to validate the Polish version of the tool. The JHLES questionnaire was completed by students of all years (first–fifth) of the faculties of dental medicine at the Medical University of Lublin and the Medical University of Gdańsk. The total surveyed population consisted of 597 students. The overall reliability of the tool was excellent. Confirmatory factor analysis was performed in order to confirm structural consistency with the original JHLES tool. Consequently, all indices had acceptable values (close to 1 or 0, depending on the case), and there was consistency in the results, which shows that the JHLES model is supported by the data. In the present study, the JHLES has been validated in a sample of dental students for the first time in Poland and Europe. Our study provided good evidence for the reliability and validity of the Polish version of the JHLES. In conclusion, the Polish-language version of the JHLES questionnaire is a reliable and valid instrument for analysing the learning environment for students, and its factor structure is supported by the data. Background: An important component in fostering the responsible use of antibiotics is training of new and future prescribers in this interdisciplinary topic. Because podcasts are playing an increasing role in medical education, we aimed to develop and evaluate a podcast format with practice and guideline-oriented learning content on antibiotic therapy for medical students and young medical professionals. Methods: We developed the concept for the podcast with the direct involvement of medical students and medical experts with teaching experience. We used video conferencing when recording the episodes in order to have quick, easy, and nationwide access to the experts involved. We released an episode every 2 to 4 weeks on the popular podcast platforms. The podcast was promoted through mailing lists, social and print media, and at conferences. The evaluation of episodes was based on user data provided by the platforms and an anonymous feedback questionnaire linked to each episode in the podcast notes. Results: Between December 2021 and December 2022 19 episodes of InfectEd: der Antibiotika-Podcast were released. The mean duration of an episode was 91 min. By March 9, 2023, a total of 38,829 downloads and streams had been recorded. The majority of users listened to the podcast on a mobile device. The average playing time per episode was 65%. The feedback questionnaire was completed 135 times. 60.7% of respondents were female, 38.5% male. The majority of respondents were in their twenties and thirties (66.7%). 31.1% were medical students, 25.9% were residents, and 25.2% were specialists. Listeners were asked to rate episodes on a scale from 1 to 6, where 1 was "very good" and 6 was "insufficient." Ratings did not differ significantly between female and male respondents or between medical students and others. 118 respondents (87.4%) reported an increase in knowledge. Free-text feedback frequently emphasized clinical and also exam relevance. Conclusion: Our podcast format, developed with a user-centered approach, was broadly distributed and has been well accepted by both medical students and physicians alike. AbstractThis article is the third in a series exploring drivers of social accountability (SA) in medical schools across Canada. Findings from the two previous articles have highlighted a central relationship between community, students, and faculty at medical schools, and led to the emergence of a new social accountability model– the Community Triad Model (CTM). The CTM proposes an interconnectedness between community, students, faculty, and the broader institution, and the pathways through which community-based learning directly and indirectly influences decision-making in medical institutions. This article explores the relationships between the three arms of the CTM by examining the literature on community engagement and SA, as well as by revisiting popular models and foundational SA reports to garner insights into authentic community engagement in health professions education. While there is an abundance of literature demonstrating the impact of community placements on students, there are limited studies describing the influence of communities on faculty and the broader institution either directly, or indirectly via students. The authors recommend that institutions be more intentional in engaging students and faculty, and learn from their experiences with community to shape curriculum, practices, policies, and culture of the broader institution. This study offers an operational model of SA that is easy to adopt and implement. It intends to demonstrate how the components of the triad (students, faculty/leadership, community) function together in the community engagement and social accountability of medical schools. Background Methods Results Conclusions Physicians' erroneous assumptions about individuals with intellectual disability (ID) negatively impact the quality of care provided to this population. This study aimed to investigate the psychometric properties of the Beliefs About Adults with ID (BAID), an instrument we developed for measuring physicians' erroneous assumptions about adults with ID.Two hundred ninety‐two American physicians participated. Classical test theory and Rasch measurement theory were used to refine the scale (through item analysis, exploratory factor analysis, infit and outfit mean‐squares statistics, and differential item functioning) and investigate its psychometric properties (functioning of the response scale, reliability, and validity).The BAID provided a unidimensional, reliable, valid, and precise measure in assessing high levels of erroneous assumptions. It showed convergent and divergent validity with the different factors of a scale measuring attitudes towards ID. The BAID items were discriminant, non‐redundant, unambiguous, and invariant across gender and previous ID training. The BAID response scale was found to be appropriate for measuring physicians' erroneous assumptions about adults with ID.BAID is a brief instrument with good psychometric properties to assess erroneous assumptions about adults with ID in physicians of different genders and who have/have not previously received ID training. Objective Methods Results Conclusion To determine the individual learning curves for cordocentesis in a low‐cost simulator for maternal‐fetal medicine (MFM) fellows.This observational, descriptive, educational, and prospective study was performed from July through November 2022. After an introductory course based on a standardized technique for cordocentesis, each second‐year MFM fellow who accepted to participate in the study performed this procedure using a low‐cost simulation model, and experienced operators supervised the cordocenteses. Learning curves were then created using cumulative sum analysis (CUSUM).Seven second‐year MFM fellows with no previous experience in cordocentesis accepted to participate in the study. A total of 2676 procedures were assessed. On average, residents performed 382 ± 70 procedures. The mean number of procedures to achieve proficiency was 369 ± 70, the overall success rate was 84.16%, and the corresponding failure rate was 15.84%. At the end of the study, all fellows were considered competent in cordocentesis. One fellow required 466 attempts to achieve competency, performing a total of 478 procedures, but the resident with the fewest attempts to reach competency required 219 procedures, completing 232 procedures. Some of the most frequent reasons for failed attempts included not reaching the indicated point for vascular access (20.99%) and being unable to retrieve the sample (69.10%).CUSUM analysis to assess learning curves, in addition to using low‐cost simulation models, helped to appraise individualized learning, allowing an objective demonstration of competency for cordocentesis among MFM fellows. Objective: University College London (UCL) and Newgiza University (NGU) have been in an academic collaboration since 2016 to establish undergraduate healthcare programmes in Egypt with an underlying ethos of capacity building and co-development. We explored impacts of pandemic-related travel restrictions on staff across both organisations. Methods: We conducted 30 semi-structured interviews with academic and professional services staff from UCL and NGU schools of medicine, dentistry, and pharmacy. Data were jointly coded using reflexive thematic analysis and categorised according to the American Council on Education's Comprehensive Internationalisation Framework. Results: Nine themes were identified, which related to each of the six components of the framework. In addition to mobility, participants' experiences also spread across the other five components (institutional commitment, leadership, curriculum, faculty support, and partnerships). Successful adaptations were made and staff felt able to 'keep the show on the road'. However, staff remained keen to keep in-person engagement a priority when possible, especially for quality management site visits. Conclusions: Travel restrictions can have widespread impacts on all aspects of international collaborations. In this well-established relationship, there was sufficient resilience to withstand these impacts and, many positive unintended consequences emerged. Background: The advanced access (AA) model is among the most recommended innovations for improving timely access in primary care (PC). AA is based on core pillars such as comprehensive planning for care needs and supply, regularly adjusting supply to demand, optimizing appointment systems, and interprofessional collaborative practices. Exposure of family medicine residents to AA within university-affiliated family medicine groups (U-FMGs) is a promising strategy to widen its dissemination and improve access. Using four AA pillars as a conceptual model, this study aimed to determine the theoretical compatibility of Quebec's university-affiliated clinics' residency programs with the key principles of AA. Methods: A cross-sectional online survey was sent to the chief resident and academic director at each participating clinic. An overall response rate of 96% (44/46 U-FMGs) was obtained. Results: No local residency program was deemed compatible with all four considered pillars. On planning for needs and supply, only one quarter of the programs were compatible with the principles of AA, owing to residents in out-of-clinic rotations often being unavailable for extended periods. On regularly adjusting supply to demand, 54% of the programs were compatible. Most (82%) programs' appointment systems were not very compatible with the AA principles, mostly because the proportion of the schedule reserved for urgent appointments was insufficient. Interprofessional collaboration opportunities in the first year of residency allowed 60% of the programs to be compatible with this pillar. Conclusions: Our study highlights the heterogeneity among local residency programs with respect to their theoretical compatibility with the key principles of AA. Background: Artificial intelligence is a growing phenomenon that will soon facilitate wide-scale changes in many professions, and is expected to play an important role in the field of medical education. This study explored the realistic feelings and experiences of nursing undergraduates participating in different stages of artificial intelligence + project task driven learning, and provide a basis for artificial intelligence participation in nursing teaching. Methods: We conducted face-to-face semi-structured interviews with nursing undergraduates participating in Nursing Research Course which adopts artificial intelligence + project task driven learning from a medical university in Ningxia from September to November 2023, to understand their experience of using artificial intelligence for learning and the emotional changes at different stages. The interview guide included items about their personal experience and feelings of completing project tasks through dialogue with artificial intelligence, and suggestions for course content. Thematic analysis was used to analyze interview data. This study followed the COREQ checklist. Results: According to the interview data, three themes were summarized. Undergraduate nursing students have different experiences in participating in artificial intelligence + project task driven learning at different stages, mainly manifested as diverse emotional experiences under initial knowledge deficiency, the individual growth supported by external forces during the adaptation period, and the expectations and suggestions after the birth of the results in the end period. Conclusions: Nursing undergraduates can actively adapt to the integration of artificial intelligence into nursing teaching, dynamically observe students' learning experience, strengthen positive guidance, and provide support for personalized teaching models, better leveraging the advantages of artificial intelligence participation in teaching. Patient educator programmes have become a fundamental part of medical student education, delivering rich and transformative learning. However, little is known about the barriers and facilitators to implementing patient educator programmes for medical students in psychiatry and specifically forensic psychiatry. A systematic search of three databases with no date parameters was undertaken in November 2022, using keywords related to medical education, coproduction, patient involvement, and psychiatry. Five papers on patient educator programmes in psychiatry were located. No literature related to patient educator programmes in forensic psychiatry was identified. Facilitators include a robust policy infrastructure and transparent arrangements for safe educational practices alongside a commitment to coproduction and relational working. Barriers include epistemic injustice, the skills of professional facilitators, and a lack of supporting educational theory. There appears to be scope to deliver high-quality medical student education in forensic psychiatry through patient educator programmes with reciprocal benefits for educators such as rehabilitation, skills development, and possibly therapeutic benefits. The educational and therapeutic value of patient as educator programmes in forensic psychiatry are under-researched. Patient as educator programmes in forensic psychiatry require careful consideration regarding risk, while patients’ prior involvement with the criminal justice system may increase stigma and discrimination. Objectives: The residency application process has become increasingly complex for medical students and advisors to navigate. Program signaling was piloted to improve applicants' abilities to obtain interview offers at programs they were strongly interested in. The initial positive results led to expansion of signaling to additional specialties over the next two application cycles. Despite the benefits of program signaling, the variation in signaling practices among specialties has presented challenges for both advisors and students when determining how to best allocate signals. The aim of this study is to identify students' perceptions of the signaling process, how this may impact outcomes, and to guide future educational programming. Methods: This is an exploratory original survey study of students in a US allopathic medical school applying in ERAS for the 2023 residency cycle. The survey was developed to determine students' understanding of how programs would use signals in the application process and assess strategies students used to allocate signals. We compared program signals to student interview offers and match outcomes using descriptive statistics. Results: 57 of 96 eligible students completed the survey. 51% signaled a range of programs based on their perceived competitiveness for the program while 40% signaled programs of interest regardless of perceived competitiveness. 53% of students thought sending a signal would increase their chance of an interview, while 42% were unsure how the signal would be used by residency programs. Students received interviews at 49% of the programs signaled, which increased to 56.5% when specialties offering more than 7 signals were excluded. 35% of students matched at a signaled program. Conclusions: Students' perceptions and strategies related to the signaling process are varied and may impact interview offers. Advisors should monitor and review internal institutional trends to help inform future educational programming to optimize signal allocation for their students. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

OBJECTIVE: To review the senior resident health trainee's perceived status and need for quality improvement and patient safety (QIPS) education in the residency training program of Saudi Arabia. METHODS: Residents of medical, dentistry, and pharmacy education were surveyed in 2023 by using pretested 10 QIPS questions. The median and interquartile range (IQR) of the score was correlated to gender, branch, and level of residency training. RESULTS: We surveyed 202 senior residents. Males were 131 (64.9%). Residents of medical (126, 62.4%), dentistry (39, 19.3%), and pharmacy (37, 18.3%). The median score of responses to the QIPS survey was 7.0 (IQR 4.0, 11.6). The median score of residents of dentistry, medicine, and pharmacy were 10 (IQR 7.0, 12.5), 6.75 (IQR 4.0, 12.0), and 5.0 (IQR 2.5, 8.0) respectively, and was significantly different (Kruskal Wallis (KW) chi-square = 19.8, P =.001). The exposure to the QIPS project was significantly and positively associated with a high QIPS score (MW U P =.02). The variations in the score by gender (Mann Whitney P =.148) and the level of residency (KW P =.86) were not statistically significant. Three-fourths of participants feel the need for formal training about QIPS. Nearly half of the participants were not happy with the current method of QIPS training methodology. More than 40% of participants were not sure about questions about opportunities and mentorship of QIPS projects. One-third were involved in QIPS projects. CONCLUSIONS: Although senior residents were interested in QIPS, they were dissatisfied with current methods and opportunities to execute supervised QIPS projects. The COVID-19 pandemic demanded significant sacrifices from medical learners. We examine the meaning of sacrifice and frame it as a "side effect" of being dedicated to the good of the patient. We contend that sacrifice has played a central role in medicine, even before the pandemic, for professionals and learners alike. We identify three limits to the role of sacrifice in medical education and practice to separate healthy from harmful experiences of sacrifice. Developing an understanding of sacrifice in medical education and practice can help trainees and clinicians know when to marshal resilient responses to healthy sacrifices and reject harmful sacrifices encountered. In the past decade, medical education has increasingly incorporated evidence-based lifestyle interventions as primary strategies for preventing and managing noncommunicable diseases. This shift embraces the growing recognition of the significant impact of lifestyle on health outcomes, driving diseases including obesity, diabetes, heart disease, and cancer. Now deemed "food is medicine" (FIM), diet-related interventions witnessed integration into healthcare systems and recognition in the United States' White House Conference on Hunger, Nutrition, and Health in 2023. As FIM gains traction, investigating optimal strategies for team-based education becomes essential. Healthcare teams need the necessary knowledge and tools to effectively administer FIM services and collaborate across disciplines, ultimately enhancing disease prevention, chronic disease management, health quality, value, and overall wellness. Culinary medicine (CM), a vital component of FIM, bridges nutrition education, pragmatic culinary skills, and conventional strategies to improve chronic disease management. CM involves experiential learning, imparts practical skills, and encourages behavior change by addressing food-related determinants of health and promoting equitable access. Teaching kitchens serve as physical or virtual learning spaces and as a didactic and experiential method (skills lab), playing a crucial role by integrating culinary, lifestyle, integrative, and conventional medicine. A growing number of medical schools in the United States and globally offer CM education via diverse methods including interest groups, electives, and specialty tracks, encompassing didactic sessions, hands-on kitchen education, and virtual teaching methods. Given the rising demand for CM programs, this article aims to describe, map, and compare existing CM education types in medical education. It provides actionable recommendations for medical schools to establish and expand CM programs by fostering service-learning partnerships, clinical innovation, and interdisciplinary research. As FIM gains prominence, cultivating a robust foundation of educational strategies is vital to ensure seamless integration into both medical education and collaborative medical practice.
