Purpose: To compare the outcomes of immediate and delayed implant placement with bone-level tapered implants. Materials and Methods: In this post-market, multicenter prospective randomized controlled study with a primary endpoint of 1 year, 53 patients were randomized to receive either immediate implant placement (test group) or delayed implant placement (control group). The mean crestal bone level changes from implant loading to 12 months postloading were measured using standardized digital periapical radiographs. Changes in facial plate thickness (as measured on CBCT images), implant success and survival, implant stability, soft tissue changes, patient-centered outcomes, and adverse events were measured to assess outcomes between the test and control treatments at 12 months postloading. Results: Of the original 53 patients, 46 patients completed the study (23 in each group). Mean bone changes from loading to the 12-month follow-up were recorded with no statistically significant difference (P = .950) between the groups. The hypothesis was confirmed that immediate implant placement (test) in extraction sockets produces in similar outcomes as delayed placement (control). The test group was found to be similar to the control group (P = .022) in terms of mean changes in facial plate thickness. Implant survival and success were 95.8% in the test group and 92% in the control group. Stability in the control group was superior at the time of surgery, but there was no difference between the groups at implant loading, producing a nonsignificant P value of .563). The use of conventional scan bodies (SBs) with an intraoral scanner (IOS) to capture the position of a complete arch of dental implants has proven to be challenging. The literature is unclear about the accuracy of intraoral scanning techniques using SBs that are connected vertically to multiunit abutments (MUAs) for numerous adjacent implants in the same arch. Recently, there has been a paradigm shift from vertical SBs to horizontal SBs, which are positioned perpendicular to the long axis of the MUAs. Most IOSs available today can capture these horizontal SBs, called scan gauges (SGs), with better accuracy and consequently acquire the position of multiple adjacent implants using an effective scan path, thus reducing stitching and the number of images. The key to implementing this novel technology is to strategically arrange the SGs to optimize horizontal overlap of multiple adjacent SGs without touching each other. By superimposing two high-resolution intraoral scans of the SGs, an artificial intelligence (AI) algorithm is employed to produce a calibrated digital best-fit model on which a passive complete-arch prosthesis can be designed and fabricated. The management of horizontally fully edentulous atrophic ridges is a common problem in dental implantology. This case report describes an alternative modified two-stage presplitting technique. The patient was referred for an implantsupported rehabilitation of their edentulous mandible. CBCT scans showed a mean available bone width of about 3 mm. At the first stage, four linear corticotomies were performed using a piezoelectric surgical device. At the second surgical stage 4 weeks later, bone expansion was performed, and four implants were placed in the interforaminal area. The healing process was uneventful. No fractures of the buccal wall and no neurologic lesions were observed. Postoperative CBCT scans showed a mean bone width gain of about 3.7 mm. Implants were uncovered 6 months after the second surgery, and 1 month later, a fixed provisional screw-retained prosthesis was delivered. This approach could be used as a reconstructive technique that avoids using grafts and reduces treatment times, possible complications, postsurgical morbidity, and costs by exploiting the patient's native bone as much as possible. The purpose of this case series was to assess the application of a novel selfcutting, tapered implant (Straumann BLX) in combination with a digital integrated prosthetic workflow for immediate placement and restoration. Fourteen consecutive patients who required replacement of a single hopeless maxillary or mandibular tooth in the esthetic area and met the clinical and radiographic criteria for immediate implant placement were treated. All cases followed the same treatment procedure of extraction and immediate implant placement. Immediate temporization with full contoured screw-retained provisional restorations was performed using an integrated digital workflow. After implant placement and dual-zone bone and soft tissue augmentation, connecting geometries and emergence profiles were finalized. The average implant insertion torque was 53.2 ± 14.9 Ncm (range: 35 to 80 Ncm), allowing immediate provisional restoration in all cases. Final restorations were delivered 3 months after implant placement. An implant survival rate of 100% was observed at the 1-year postloading follow-up. The results of this case series suggest that immediate placement of novel tapered implants and immediate provisionalization using an integrated digital workflow can result in predictable and functional and esthetic results for the immediate transition of failing single teeth in the esthetic area. As a result of its aggressive nature and late identification at advanced stages, lung cancer is one of the leading causes of cancer-related deaths. Lung cancer early diagnosis is a serious and difficult challenge that is crucial to a person's survival. The first diagnosis of the malignant nodules is typically made using chest radiography (X-rays) and computed tomography (CT) scans; however, the potential presence of benign nodules results in incorrect conclusions. The early phases of both benign and malignant nodules exhibit striking similarities. In this paper, a novel deep learning-based model is proposed for the precise diagnosis of malignant nodules. The proposed approach consists of two stages namely, pre-processing and lung nodule detection. Initially, the Lung CT scan images are collected from the dataset. Then, to remove the noise present in the input image, we apply an adaptive median filter. Then, to enhance the image, Contrast Limited Adaptive Histogram Equalization (CLAHE) is applied. After pre-processing, the image is given to the optimized mask RCNN classifier to detect the malignant and benign nodules. To enhance the performance of the Mask RCNN classifier, the hyper-parameters are optimally selected using hybrid particle snake swarm optimization (PS2OA). The proposed PS2OA is a hybridization of particle swarm optimization (PSO) and snake swarm optimization (SSO). The performance of the proposed approach is analyzed based on different metrics and effectiveness compared with state-of-the-art works. The proposed approach attained the maximum accuracy of 97.67%. Background: Video-assisted thoracic surgery (VATS) is widely used for thoracic lesions in pediatric patients. VATS is also applied to pediatric mediastinal tumors if there is no adhesion or invasion between the tumor and adjacent neuronal and cardiovascular structures. Here, we present a pediatric case of mediastinal teratoma in which the tumor adhered to the superior vena cava, and resection was safely completed using assisted VATS, an integrated surgical approach comprising mini-thoracotomy with video assistance. Case presentation: A 9 year-old girl presented with right shoulder pain. Chest radiography and computed tomography revealed a 5.4 × 5.1 × 5.8 cm mass in the right upper anterior mediastinum. She was presumed with a mature teratoma, and resection was performed by assisted VATS with muscle sparing axillar skin crease incision (MSASCI) for a mini-thoracotomy. The procedure was safely completed, with the patient discharged on postoperative day 5. At 1 year postoperatively, there was no recurrence with excellent motor and cosmetic results. Conclusions: The combination of MSASCI and VATS would be useful not only for mediastinal teratomas but also for other mediastinal tumors and almost all other thoracic lesions in pediatric patients. Identification of vascular injuries is crucial for complete postmortem evaluation and understanding of trauma deaths by the Medical Examiner. Some vascular injuries are difficult to evaluate due to challenging anatomic locations, especially in the head and neck. Documenting injuries of the facial and vertebral arteries is challenging and necessitates time‐consuming dissections that can create artifacts and disfigurement. In busy medical examiner offices with a significant number of traumatic injuries, finding a creative solution to employ reliable postmortem angiography is desirable. At the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner for the State of Maryland (OCME), we created and effectively implemented a selective angiography procedure using traditional indwelling Foley catheters and water‐soluble barium swallow contrast to evaluate arterial injuries using either digital radiography or computed tomography imaging modalities. This technique and imaging interpretation can be performed by a medical examiner or forensic pathology fellow after basic technical training and basic radiology training. This study outlines the technique, methods, and utilization of the procedure and describes the findings of six deaths due to vascular lesions from different injury mechanisms and disease processes and describes the ease of implementation on a broader scale in busy Medical Examiner's offices. Objectives: To evaluate clinical, clinician‐ and patient‐reported outcomes (PROs) of two adjacent single posterior implants immediately loaded with definitive single crowns up to 1 year. Ten patients in need of two adjacent posterior single implants were included. All implants were placed applying a fully digital workflow. Definitive screw‐retained single zirconia crowns were delivered within 72 h after implant placement. Clinical parameters, patient‐ and clinician‐reported outcomes were assessed up to 1 year of follow‐up. Clinical Considerations: Clinical outcomes remained stable, with no implant failures or technical and biological complications throughout the observation period. Patient satisfaction was very high at baseline (crown delivery) and remained consistently high at 6 and 12 months of follow‐up. Crown insertion 3 days after implant placement was rated as an easy procedure by clinicians. Conclusions: Two adjacent single implants with immediate definitive restorations (<72 h) in the posterior region appear to be a viable and easy treatment option to shorten the overall treatment time and potentially enhancing patient satisfaction. However, randomized controlled trials are needed to confirm the advantages of this treatment protocol over a delayed loading approach. Studies have shown that the first metatarsal contributes to hallux valgus. The proximal phalanx, another factor that defines the hallux valgus angle, also contributes to the development of hallux valgus. There have been no reports on the use of computed tomography to evaluate bone morphology of the proximal phalanx. The purpose of this study was to analyze the morphology and deformity of the proximal phalanx and its relationship to hallux valgus using computed tomography, and to consider the indications for proximal phalanx surgery in hallux valgus. Patients who consulted at our clinic for foot and ankle disorders and underwent both weight-bearing radiography and computed tomography between May 2019 and March 2022 were included in the study. The hallux valgus angle, sesamoid subluxation, first metatarsal length, proximal phalanx length, metatarsal-proximal phalanx ratio, proximal phalanx valgus angle, metatarsal-proximal phalanx angle, proximal phalanx rotation angle, and distal phalanx-proximal phalanx angle were measured. These parameters were compared between the hallux valgus and control groups. In the hallux valgus group, the hallux valgus and proximal phalanx valgus angles were measured and compared using weight-bearing radiographs. A total of 83 feet in 65 patients were diagnosed with hallux valgus (hallux valgus group; mean age of 68.0 ± 13.8 years) and 30 feet in 22 patients without hallux valgus (control group; mean age of 67.0 ± 25.8 years) were included in the study. The proximal phalanx length, metatarsal-proximal phalanx ratio and angle, and distal phalanx-proximal phalanx angle were significantly greater in the hallux valgus group than in the control group. However, the proximal phalanx valgus and rotation angles were not significantly different between the groups. Since there was no significant difference in the proximal phalanx morphology, except length, between the hallux valgus and control groups, the indications for osteotomy of the proximal phalanx should be carefully considered. Over the past decade, orthodontics has advanced markedly with digital methods, cutting-edge biomechanics, and 3-dimensional diagnostics. However, the rapid adoption of these innovations without rigorous evaluation of their evidential support has led to new unsubstantiated orthodontic-surgical indications. This article explores emerging orthodontic practices, focusing on the interpretation of orthodontic principles and the reliance on imaging-based diagnoses. Strict adherence to mechanistic orthodontic principles and reliance on imaging findings can result in overzealous treatment protocols. It also emphasizes the state of knowledge regarding temporomandibular disorders (TMDs) and the lack of consensus and evidence-based guidelines. There is an urgent need for the profession to integrate TMD knowledge, adopt evidence-based practices, and critically evaluate new methods before implementation. Orthodontists should move away from outdated mechanistic beliefs and integrate clinical knowledge from TMD research into their practices. Statement of the Problem: It is challenging to perform a pulpectomy procedure in primary tooth because of its physiological root resorption and variation in root morphology. Working length measurement is considered to be one of the critical steps, as it determines the extent of obturation and apical seal. Purpose: To compare the accuracy of electronic apex locator (EAL) and digital radiography (DR) for working length determination in primary teeth. Materials and Method: In this systematic review, electronic databases and grey literature were searched from 1st January 2005 to 1st January 2023 for randomized control trial, nonrandomized control trial, in vitro studies, ex vivo studies that compared accuracy of EAL and DR in primary teeth. Two reviewers independently identified studies, retrieved data, and assessed risk of bias using the revised and validated MINORS (methodological index for non-randomized studies) criteria. Results: Ten studies were included in qualitative analysis. Seven out of ten studies showed low risk of bias whereas other three studies showed high risk of bias. In view of methodological heterogeneity of the findings, a meta-analysis was not conducted. Conclusion: Available evidence suggests a moderate quality of evidence in this systematic review. Analyzing the ten studies included in this systematic review, the majority of studies showed statistically insignificant difference between EAL and DR. However, EAL was closer to actual WL as compared to DR. Based on the evidence that is currently available; EAL can be considered as an alternative for working length measurement in primary teeth. This study aimed to compare the findings of plain radiography and computed tomography (CT) of foot and ankle in patients submitted to the emergency department with high-energy foot and ankle trauma, to demonstrate if missing fractures on plain radiographs will significantly alter the treatment plan considered for each patient based on the findings of each imaging modality. We retrospectively observed standard radiological foot and ankle x-rays and CT scans in patients who presented to our center from April 2019 to June 2020 with a history of foot and ankle trauma with either loss of consciousness, a history of high-energy trauma, or clinical presentation disproportionate to plain radiographic findings. We investigated the number of fractures of each bone detected on plain radiographs and CT scans and the treatments based on each modality's findings in patients admitted to our center. Sixty-five out of 163 (39.87%) included in our study had at least one missed fracture on plain radiography that was detected on CT. Thirty-one (19%) patients had normal radiography despite actually having fractures. In 38 (23.31%) patients CT changed the treatment plan decided by our surgeons (P < 0.001). The two imaging modalities had a moderate agreement for detecting foot and ankle fractures overall (κ = 0.432). The failure to detect fractures in patients with high-energy trauma can significantly impact treatment effectiveness. Malunion of thumb and finger fractures causes problems in the cosmetic and functional aspects of the hand. Malunion of phalangeal fractures usually manifests as a combination of rotational deformities in the coronal, sagittal, and transverse planes, and corrective osteotomy is performed on the planes that cause these problems. Quantification of the deformity is essential for precise osteotomy and is difficult to perform in the transverse plane, even with radiography or computed tomography. Thus, we developed a technique called linkage simulation for the quantitative measurement of rotational deformities for surgical planning. In this procedure, finger extension and flexion can be simulated based on the predicted rotational axis of the joint, which is useful for determining the appropriate correction. Furthermore, by performing a reduction simulation in the software, it is possible to simulate the surgery and predict the postoperative results. This paper reports the details of this technique. Background: Multi-rooted teeth with extensive dental defects often face challenges in stability and biomechanical failure. High-performance polymer PEEK materials, with properties closer to dentin, show promise in reducing stress concentration and preserving tooth structure. This report aimed to explore the use of a highly retentive polyetheretherketone (PEEK) for manufacturing custom-made split post and core for the restoration of grossly destroyed endodontically treated molars. Clinical considerations: A 40-year-old female patient presented with complaints of loss of tooth substance in the posterior mandibular tooth. This case involved the digital design and fabrication of PEEK split post and core to restore multirooted molar with insufficient dental tissue remnants. The restorations were evaluated over a 3-year follow-up using the World Federation criteria (FDI). The restoration was clinically evaluated through intraoral examination, radiographic assessment, and subjective patient satisfaction, and was deemed clinically good according to FDI criteria. Conclusion: The outstanding mechanical properties of PEEK, coupled with the structure of the split post, provide an effective treatment option for weakened multirooted teeth. Simultaneously, the restoration configuration effectively addressed the challenge of varying postinsertion directions, and the interlocking mechanism between the primary and auxiliary posts enhanced the stability of the post and core. Lung cancer, the second most common type of cancer worldwide, presents significant health challenges. Detecting this disease early is essential for improving patient outcomes and simplifying treatment. In this study, we propose a hybrid framework that combines deep learning (DL) with quantum computing to enhance the accuracy of lung cancer detection using chest radiographs (CXR) and computerized tomography (CT) images. Our system utilizes pre-trained models for feature extraction and quantum circuits for classification, achieving state-of-the-art performance in various metrics. Not only does our system achieve an overall accuracy of 92.12%, it also excels in other crucial performance measures, such as sensitivity (94%), specificity (90%), F1-score (93%), and precision (92%). These results demonstrate that our hybrid approach can more accurately identify lung cancer signatures compared to traditional methods. Moreover, the incorporation of quantum computing enhances processing speed and scalability, making our system a promising tool for early lung cancer screening and diagnosis. By leveraging the strengths of quantum computing, our approach surpasses traditional methods in terms of speed, accuracy, and efficiency. This study highlights the potential of hybrid computational technologies to transform early cancer detection, paving the way for wider clinical applications and improved patient care outcomes. The aim of this study was to investigate the influence of examiner experience on measurements of bone-loss using high-dose (HD) and low-dose (LD) CBCT. Three diagnosticians with varying levels of CBCT interpretation experience measured bone-loss from CBCT scans of three cadaveric heads at 30 sites, conducting measurements twice. Between the first and second measurements, diagnostician 2 and diagnostician 3 received training in LD-CBCT diagnostics. The diagnosticians also classified the certainty of their measurements using a three-grade scale. The accuracy of bone-loss measurements was assessed using the absolute difference between observed and clinical measurements and compared among diagnosticians with different experience levels for both HD and LD-CBCT. At baseline, there was a significant difference in measurement accuracy between diagnostician 1 and diagnostician 2, and between diagnostician 1 and diagnostician 3, but not between diagnostician 2 and diagnostician 3. Training improved the accuracy of both HD-CBCT and LD-CBCT measurements in diagnostician 2, and of LD-CBCT measurements in diagnostician 3. Regarding measurement certainty, there was a significant difference among diagnosticians before training. Training enhanced the certainty for diagnosticians 2 and 3, with a significant improvement noted only for diagnostician 3. Background: The purpose of this pilot in-vitro study was to assess the effect of sterilization on the intra-implant axis, inter-implant axis, intra-implant distance and inter-implant distance of three implants in a straight line by using laboratory scanner (LBS) versus intra-oral scanner (IOS) with intra-oral scan bodies (ISB). Methods: A printed 3D model with three internal hex analogs in the positions 15#,16#,17# was used. Zirkonzhan (ZZ) intra-oral scan body (ISB), two-piece titanium was used. The ZZ ISBs were scanned by 7 Series dental wings (LBS) and 30 times by Primescan (IOS) pre sterilization and 30 times post sterilization. For each scan (pre and post) stereolithography (STL) file was created and a comparison between all the scans pre sterilization and post sterilization were superimposed on the laboratory scan by using a 3D analyzing software. A Kolmogorov-Smirnov test performed followed by Wilcoxon Signed Ranks tests. (p < 0.05) Results: Post sterilization of the ZZ ISB, the mean errors were significantly increased for the inter-implant distances (p < 0.0005), intra-implant distances 1,2,3 (p < 0.0005), intra-implant axis 1,3 (p < 0.0005) and inter-implant axes 13,23 (p < 0.05). In contrast, the mean errors for intra-implant axis 2 (p < 0.0005) and inter-implant axis 12 (p < 0.0005) were significantly reduced. Conclusions: ZZ ISB showed changes in all four parameters after sterilization. The middle ISB had the largest changes in mean error regarding all four parameters. Sterilization process may affect the three-dimensional (3D) structure of the ZZ ISB after three cycles. There is a lack in the literature in this field and there is a need for further studies to explore the effect of sterilization (multiple cycles) on different ISBs and for creating an approved guidelines regarding the amount of sterilization for each ISB in the industry. Radiography facilities face challenges with the positioning of digital radiography detectors. This study evaluates the image quality, radiation dose, and patient comfort associated with wireless sensors in digital radiography. A systematic exploration was performed across PubMed/MEDLINE, EMBASE, SCOPUS, Web of Science, and SCIELO. Nine papers met the eligibility criteria, including three observational studies with 111 patients, four in vitro experiments with 258 extracted human teeth, and two ex vivo investigations with 16 cadaver mandibles. All studies consistently reported high-quality images produced by wireless sensors. Two studies demonstrated the superiority of wireless sensors, one found comparable accuracy with conventional radiography, and another indicated similar image quality among the sensors. Both wireless and wired sensors significantly reduced radiation doses compared to conventional X-rays. The Visual Analog Scale (VAS) did not reveal a clear superiority of wireless over wired sensors, though both were generally less comfortable than traditional film. The wireless sensors consistently produce high-quality images, comparable to or superior to other digital devices. Both wireless and wired sensors significantly reduce radiation doses compared to conventional X-rays, emphasizing their safety and efficacy. Objectives: This study aims to investigate the use of high‐frequency sonography as a tool for detecting inflammatory and destructive changes in the hand and foot joints of patients with early and long‐term RA. Methods: This study employs a prospective cohort design involving 162 patients diagnosed with Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) who meet the American College of Rheumatology/European League Against Rheumatism (ACR/EULAR) classification criteria. Patients were divided into two groups based on disease duration: Group 1 (n = 74) included patients with a disease duration of up to 2 years, or early РА (ERA;), Group 2 (n = 88) consisted of patients with a disease duration exceeding 2 years, or long‐term persistent РА (LtRA). All patients underwent a clinical assessment of their joints, as well as radiography and arthrosonography, at the beginning of the study and again at 6 and 12 months later. Results: In the general group of patients, ultrasound examination revealed signs of synovitis in the joints of the hands more frequently (66%) compared with clinical examination (56% by a number of swollen joints [NSJ] and 55% by a number of painful joints [NPJ], P <.01). After 6 months of treatment, 12% of the patients achieved full US remission and 24% achieved partial US remission. Conclusions: Within the scope of comprehensive RA diagnostics, arthrosonography of the joints of the hands and feet, utilizing a combination of greyscale and power Doppler, may surpass radiography in detecting early RA. Simple Summary: Hip dysplasia is an orthoedic condition where the hip joint does not develop correctly which leads to pain and discomfort in the human and canine species. To better acknowledge this condition and find new treatment modalities, a model of hip dysplasia performed in rabbits by surgically modifying the hip joint was presented. A total of seventeen rabbits were used to assess morphological changes in the hip joint using radiography and computed tomography. Our research revealed that the surgery caused significant changes in the hip joint, making it similar to the hip dysplasia seen in dogs and humans. These changes included the increased rotation of the femur and a shallower acetabulum, which are key features of hip dysplasia. This rabbit model can be used to evaluate the progress of hip dysplasia and test new treatments, which may lead to better prevention and treatment options for hip dysplasia and the improvement of the quality of life for both animals and humans affected by this condition. The present study investigates the morphometric changes in the hip joint in a surgically induced rabbit model of hip dysplasia through the sectioning of the ligamentum capitis femoris and pelvic limb immobilization. A total of seventeen rabbits were evaluated using radiographic and computed tomographic imaging to measure the following parameters: the femoral angles of anteversion and inclination, length and width indexes of the neck of the femur, and acetabular depth and ventroversion. Significant differences in femoral anteversion angle and acetabular depth were observed, particularly in the group of hip instability surgery with pelvic limb immobilization. The results have shown the influence of hip joint instability in the promotion of femoral anteversion and acetabular shallowing. These findings provide a foundation for future research on naturally occurring or experimentally induced hip dysplasia in rabbits and underscore the model's potential for studying the biomechanical and developmental aspects of hip joint disorders. Objective: To evaluate the profilometric, esthetic, and patient‐reported outcomes of peri‐implant tissues in the maxillary anterior esthetic zone following guided bone regeneration (GBR) using the L‐shape technique combined with delayed connective tissue grafting (CTG). Materials and Methods: Profilometric and pink esthetic score (PES) measurements were performed at the time of implant surgery with GBR (T0) and at the 1‐ (T1), 2‐ (T2), and 3‐year (T3) follow‐up. Patient‐reported outcomes were also assessed using the Oral Health Impact Profile‐14 (OHIP‐14) questionnaire. Statistical analysis over 3 years of follow‐up assessed changes at time points (T0, T1, T2, and T3) and time periods (T0–T1, T0–T2, and T0–T3) using the Wilcoxon signed‐rank test. Results: A total of 12 patients (57.5 ± 12.3 years) were included in this study. The mean profilometric change in peri‐implant tissues over the 3‐year follow‐up period was 3.49 ± 1.11 mm, and the buccal contours were not significantly different between the comparison periods. The PES remained stable, while all OHIP‐14 domain scores improved significantly. Conclusion: Simultaneous implant placement and GBR using the L‐shape technique combined with delayed CTG in the maxillary anterior region provides stable buccal profiles and consistent esthetics and improves patient‐reported quality of life over a 3‐year period. There is no consensus regarding the acceptable level of medical radiation exposure in patients with early-onset scoliosis. This study aimed to quantify radiation exposure in these patients and investigate factors associated with high exposure. Patients with early-onset scoliosis who received care for their spine deformity and other comorbidities in our institution were retrospectively reviewed. Cumulative radiation exposure and total number of imaging studies were recorded. Patients with ≥30 mSv exposure were classified as high exposure and analyzed to clarify factors associated with high exposure. Thirty-five patients were included for analysis. The etiology of scoliosis was idiopathic in 8 patients, congenital in 7, syndromic in 8, and neuromuscular in 12. Fifteen patients underwent 19 spinal surgeries. The types of operation performed were definitive fusion (n = 12), vertebrectomy for hemivertebra (n = 2), growing rod (n = 1), lengthening (n = 3), and revision/partial implant removal (n = 1). The mean cumulative radiation dose was 22.3 mSv (range, 2.5–94.5 mSv). Spine radiography and computed tomography combined accounted for 15.0 mSv (range, 2.4–52.5 mSv, 67.3% of the mean cumulative dose). The mean radiation dose was significantly higher in patients who underwent spinal surgery than in those who did not (31.2 mSv vs. 15.6 mSv). The high-exposure group comprised 10 patients (1 idiopathic, 1 congenital, 5 syndromic, and 3 neuromuscular scoliosis) and 8 underwent 11 spinal operations. Among 8 patients who underwent spinal surgery, the cumulative radiation dose for spine was ≥30 mSv and spine computed tomography was performed an average of 4.0 times. Nearly one-third of patients with early-onset scoliosis and half of patients who underwent spinal surgery had >30 mSv radiation exposure due to multiple computed tomography. Medical imaging techniques such as digital radiography and ultrasonography are non‐invasive and provide precise results for examining internal organs and structures within fish. Their effectiveness can be further enhanced by using body parts like scales as markers for the organs beneath them. This study utilized the number of scales as landmarks in digital radiography and ultrasonography to non‐invasively evaluate the muscles, bones, and images of internal and reproductive organs of common carp (Cyprinus carpio). Digital radiography was performed in the dorsoventral and lateral views of the fish, whereas ultrasonography was conducted in longitudinal and transverse views on sequence scale numbers with brightness and colour Doppler‐modes. Digital radiography of the common carp revealed the whole‐body morphology, including the bony parts from the head, pectoral fins, dorsal fins, pelvic fins, anal fins, and vertebrae to the tail that appeared radiopaque. Internal organs were also observed, with the swim bladder and heart appeared radiolucent, while the intestines, liver, testes, and ovaries appeared radiopaque. Ultrasonography in brightness mode displayed the digestive organs, reproductive organs, and muscle thickness. Additionally, colour Doppler mode demonstrated blood flow within the heart's ventricle. Background: The noteworthy correlation between bite force and masticatory performance emphasizes its significance as a meaningful and objective method for assessing oral function. Furthermore, in the study of bruxism, the measurement of intraoral bite force assumes critical importance. Given the importance of assessing occlusal forces and bite force, this systematic review aims to assess the efficacy of wireless sensors in measuring these forces. Methods: The search methodology employed in this systematic review adhered to the guidelines outlined by PRISMA. The strategy involved the exploration of various databases, including PubMed/MEDLINE, SCOPUS and SCIELO. An assessment tool was employed to evaluate the bias risk and study quality. Results: This systematic review encompassed six prospective clinical studies involving a total of 89 participants. Wireless sensors for measuring occlusal forces and bite forces were predominantly employed in healthy adults or individuals with bruxism, along with children undergoing orthodontic treatment. All wireless sensors employed in the studies underwent validation and reproducibility assessments, affirming their reliability. The findings indicated that all wireless sensors exhibited efficacy in detecting occlusal forces and bite forces. Conclusion: Wireless sensors offer real‐time monitoring of occlusal and bite forces, aiding in understanding force distribution and identifying bruxism patterns. Despite limited studies on their application, these sensors contribute to evolving insights. Integration into clinical practice requires careful consideration of factors like calibration and patient compliance. This study investigated the diagnostic accuracy of CBCT for detection of accessory mental foramina (AMFs) in dry mandibles using two different devices and three different CBCT imaging modalities. A total of 40 dry mandibles (20 per group) were selected to generate corresponding CBCT images, each with three different CBCT imaging modalities (high, standard, and low doses), using ProMax 3D Mid (Planmeca) and Veraview X800 (J. Morita). The presence, count (n), location, and diameter of the AMFs were measured on both dry mandibles and CBCT scans. The Veraview X800 with different imaging modalities showed the highest accuracy (97.5%), while the ProMax 3D Mid in low-dose imaging modality exhibited the lowest accuracy (93.8%). The most common AMF sites on dry mandibles were anterior-cranial and posterior-cranial, while anterior-cranial was the most frequent on CBCT scans. As for AMF diameter, the mean mesiodistal and vertical diameters on dry mandibles were 1.89 mm and 1.47 mm, respectively, which were greater or equal to the values obtained from CBCT scans. The overall diagnostic accuracy for assessing AMFs exhibited good results, but some caution is warranted when using a low-dose imaging modality with a large voxel size (400 μm). Purpose: This randomized clinical trial aimed to assess esthetic and soft and hard tissue outcomes 6 months after immediate implant placement using vestibular socket therapy (VST) (test) versus partial extraction therapy (comparator) in intact thin-walled fresh extraction sockets in the esthetic zone. Materials and Methods: Twenty-four patients with hopeless maxillary anterior teeth requiring immediate implant placement were randomly assigned to two equal groups to receive either VST or partial extraction therapy. Definitive restorations were delivered after 3 months. Pink esthetic scores (PESs) and vertical soft tissue alterations in millimeters were measured 6 months after restoration using intraoral digital scans of the distal papilla, midfacial gingival margin, and mesial papilla. Facial bone thickness was measured using CBCT scans at baseline and after 6 months. Implant survival and peri-implant pocket depth were assessed. Results: Both groups showed 100% implant survival after 6 months. The overall PESs after 6 months were 12.67 (± 1.3) in the VST group, while the partial extraction therapy group score was 13.17 (± 1.19), with no significant difference between them (P = .02). The mean (± SD) vertical soft tissue measurements for the VST group were 0.08 (± 0.55), 0.01 (± 0.73), and -0.03 (± 0.52) mm, and for the partial extraction therapy group, they were -0.24 (± 0.25) mm, -0.20 (± 0.10) mm, and -0.34 (± 0.13) mm for the mesial papilla, midfacial gingival margin, and distal papilla, respectively. No significant differences were observed between the groups at any of the reference points (P ≥ .05). Both techniques demonstrated a significant gain in millimeters of labial bone thickness after 6 months compared to baseline (P ≤ .05). Regarding VST, the apical, middle, and crestal mean bone gain was 1.68 (± 2.73), 1.62 (± 1.35), and 1.33 (± 1.22) mm, respectively, while partial extraction therapy showed 0.58 (± 0.62), 1.27 (± 1.22), and 1.53 (± 1.24) mm, respectively, with no significant difference detected between them (P ≥ .05). Additionally, the mean (± SD) peri-implant pocket depth after 6 months for VST was 2.16 (± 0.44) and 2.08 (± 1.02) mm for partial extraction therapy with no significant difference between them (P = .79). Conclusion: This investigation suggests that both VST and partial extraction therapy preserved alveolar bone structure and peri-implant tissues following immediate implants. The novel VST might be considered a predictable alternative treatment approach for immediate implant placement in intact thin-walled fresh extraction sockets in the esthetic zone. Objective: This in vitro study aimed to compare the diagnostic outcomes of caries detection in premolar and molar teeth on digital periapical radiographs viewed as grayscale images and in the Java-based software (JBS) pseudocolor spectrum. Method and materials: The study comprised 92 premolar or molar human teeth (n = 46 with caries and n = 46 without clinical caries). For each tooth, digital periapical radiographic images (DPRIs), JBS pseudocolor images, and stereomicroscope images were collected, and caries presence and depth were recorded. In JBS pseudocolor images, regions of interest (ROIs) were detected, and ROI values for caries area (ROI1), non-caries area (ROI2), mesial area (ROI3), and distal area (ROI4) were obtained. The degree of inter-observer agreement was determined using the kappa coefficient, and the sensitivity and specificity of the methods were assessed using ROC analysis. Results: While neither method was consistent with stereomicroscopy in determining caries depth (P < .005), for both observers the kappa value of JBS pseudocolor images were slightly higher than those for DPRIs. ROI1 was found to be significantly lower than ROI2 (P < .001), whereas no difference was found between ROI3 and ROI4 (P = .877). For both observers, the sensitivity and specificity obtained from JBS pseudocolor were above 89%. Background: An ideal synthetic spacer for medial opening wedge high tibial osteotomy (MOWHTO) has not yet been developed. The authors have developed a new β-tricalcium phosphate (β-TCP) spacer with 60% porosity (N-CP60) by modifying the micro- and macro-pore structures of a conventional β-TCP spacer (CP60) that is widely used in clinical practice. The purpose of this study was to compare the absorbability, osteoconductivity, and in vivo strength of the N-CP60 spacer with those of the CP60 spacer, when used in MOWHTO. Methods: First, the porosity, diameter distribution of macro- and micropores, and compressive strength of each β-TCP block were examined using methodology of biomaterial science. Secondly, a clinical study was performed using a total of 106 patients (106 knees) with MOWHTO, who were followed up for 18 months after surgery. In these knees, the N-CP60 and CP-60 spacers were implanted into 49 tibias and 57 tibias, respectively. The absorbability and osteoconductivity were radiologically evaluated by measuring the area of the implanted spacer remaining unabsorbed and assessing with the Hemert's score, respectively. The incidence of cracking in the implanted spacers was determined using computed radiography. Statistical comparisons were made with non-parametric tests. The significance level was set at p = 0.05. Results: The N-CP60 and CP60 blocks had almost the same porosity (mean, 61.0% and 58.7%, respectively). The diameter of macropores was significantly larger (p < 0.0001) in the N-CP60 block than in the CP60 block, while the diameter of micropores was significantly smaller (p = 0.019) in the N-CP60 block. The ultimate strength of the N-CP60 block (median, 36.8 MPa) was significantly greater (p < 0.01) than that of the CP60 block (31.6 MPa). As for the clinical evaluations, the absorption rate of the N-CP60 spacer at 18 months after implantation (mean, 48.0%) was significantly greater (p < 0.001) than that of the CP60 spacer (29.0%). The osteoconductivity of the N-CP60 spacer was slightly but significantly higher (p = 0.0408) than that of the CP60 spacer only in zone 1. The incidence of in vivo cracking of the posteriorly located N-CP60 spacer at one month (mean, 75.5%) was significantly lower (p = 0.0035) than that of the CP60 spacer (91.2%). Conclusions: The absorbability, osteoconductivity, and compressive strength of the new N-CP60 spacer were significantly improved by modifying the macro- and micro-pore structures, compared with the conventional CP60 spacer. Several data sets have been collected and various artificial intelligence models have been developed for COVID‐19 classification and detection from both chest radiography (CXR) and thorax computed tomography (CTX) images. However, the pitfalls and shortcomings of these systems significantly limit their clinical use. In this respect, improving the weaknesses of advanced models can be very effective besides developing new ones. The inability to diagnose ground‐glass opacities by conventional CXR has limited the use of this modality in the diagnostic work‐up of COVID‐19. In our study, we investigated whether we could increase the diagnostic efficiency by collecting a novel CXR data set, which contains pneumonic regions that are not visible to the experts and can only be annotated under CTX guidance. We develop an ensemble methodology of well‐established deep CXR models for this new data set and develop a machine learning‐based non‐maximum suppression strategy to boost the performance for challenging CXR images. CTX and CXR images of 379 patients who applied to our hospital with suspected COVID‐19 were evaluated with consensus by seven radiologists. Among these, CXR images of 161 patients who also have had a CTX examination on the same day or until the day before or after and whose CTX findings are compatible with COVID‐19 pneumonia, are selected for annotating. CTX images are arranged in the main section passing through the anterior, middle, and posterior according to the sagittal plane with the reformed maximum intensity projection (MIP) method in the coronal plane. Based on the analysis of coronal MIP reconstructed CTX images, the regions corresponding to the pneumonia foci are annotated manually in CXR images. Radiologically classified posterior to anterior (PA) CXR of 218 patients with negative thorax CTX imaging were classified as COVID‐19 pneumonia negative group. Accordingly, we have collected a new data set using anonymized CXR (JPEG) and CT (DICOM) images, where the PA CXRs contain pneumonic regions that are hidden or not easily recognized and annotated under CTX guidance. The reference finding was the presence of pneumonic infiltration consistent with COVID‐19 on chest CTX examination. COVID‐Net, a specially designed convolutional neural network, was used to detect cases of COVID‐19 among CXRs. Diagnostic performances were evaluated by ROC analysis by applying six COVID‐Net variants (COVIDNet‐CXR3‐A, ‐B, ‐C/COVIDNet‐CXR4‐A, ‐B, ‐C) to the defined data set and combining these models in various ways via ensemble strategies. Finally, a convex optimization strategy is carried out to find the outperforming weighted ensemble of individual models. The mean age of 161 patients with pneumonia was 49.31 ± 15.12, and the median age was 48 years. The mean age of 218 patients without signs of pneumonia in thorax CTX examination was 40.04 ± 14.46, and the median was 38. When working with different combinations of COVID‐Net's six variants, the area under the curve (AUC) using the ensemble COVID‐Net CXR 4A‐4B‐3C was.78, sensitivity 67%, specificity 95%; COVID‐Net CXR 4a‐3b‐3c was.79, sensitivity 69% and specificity 94%. When diverse and complementary COVID‐Net models are used together through an ensemble, it has been determined that the AUC values are close to other studies, and the specificity is significantly higher than other studies in the literature. Objective: This in vitro study aimed to assess and contrast the marginal and internal adaptation of all‐ceramic prefabricated veneers manufactured via the FirstFit guided tooth preparation system against all‐ceramic veneers produced using the chairside Computer‐Aided Design/Computer Aided Manufacture (CAD/CAM) system following identical guided preparation protocols. Materials and Methods: Two main groups were included, with 16 lithium disilicate veneers per group. Four typodonts were used for the test (FirstFit) and control CAD/CAM groups. Intraoral scans created master casts and preparation guides. Guides performed preparations on typodont teeth (two central incisors and two lateral incisors). Prepared teeth were scanned (CEREC Omnicam) to design and mill CAD/CAM veneers. Marginal gap thickness and cement space thickness were measured using light microscopy at four locations: marginal, cervical internal, middle internal, and incisal internal. Results: No significant difference existed between groups for marginal adaptation (p = 0.058) or incisal internal adaptation (p = 0.076). The control group had significantly lower values for middle internal adaptation (p = 0.023) and cervical internal adaptation (p = 0.019). Conclusions: Guided preparation evaluation showed no significant differences in marginal or incisal internal adaptation. The Timepix2-based hybrid-pixel detector with a 500 μm thick silicon sensor was employed for fast-neutrons registration to be applied in neutron radiography of metallic printed circuit heat exchanger (PCHE). Two energies of neutrons were experimentally tested. The detection of 3.55 MeV neutrons from the deuteron–deuteron (DD) reaction was compared to 15.7 MeV neutrons from the deuteron–tritium (DT) neutron generator. In order to distinguish the signal induced by the registered neutrons from the accelerator background, filtration of the recorded particle spectral tracks was applied. The benefit of applying hydrogen-based converter layer for 3.55 MeV neutrons was observable. On the other hand, in the case of 15.7 MeV neutrons, the direct registration by interaction with the sensor Si significantly dominates the conversion. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Purpose: This is a monocentric retrospective controlled study that compares the safety and efficacy of posterior minimally invasive surgery (MISS) to standard posterior spinal fusion (PSF) surgery in adolescent idiopathic scoliosis (AIS). Methods: We retrospectively collected 111 patients with Lenke type 1–6 AIS who were treated with MIS (n = 47) or PSF (n = 64) between February 2019 and January 2021 with a 2-year clinical and radiological follow-up. MIS technique was applied via two midline noncontiguous skin incisions ranging from 3 to 7 cm in length, so we obtained the arthrodesis only in the exposed tract, passing the rods below the fascia, avoiding the complete muscular sparing. Values of Cobb angles degrees were collected to study the correction rate of the structural major curve. Postoperative AP direct radiography and preoperative AP direct radiography were compared with the last follow-up examination. Operative time, preoperative hemoglobin (Hb) and second postoperative day Hb, full length of hospitalization, time to achieve verticalization and time to remove the drainage were recorded. NRS medium score was assessed immediately after surgery and during the whole postoperative rehabilitation treatment to estimate pain reduction. Complications were collected postoperatively and throughout the whole follow-up period. Results: There was no significant difference between the two groups in terms of radiographic and clinical features. The correction rates of the structural curve resulted to be not significantly different between MISS and PSF (64.6 ± 11.7 vs 60.9 ± 13.2, p = 0.1292) as well as for the correction rate of the secondary curve between the two compared techniques (59.1 ± 13.2 vs 59.2 ± 12.4, p = 0.9865). The two groups had comparable operative time (210 min vs 215 min). The MIS group had a significantly lower reduction of postoperative Hb in comparison with PSF group (2.8 ± 1.3 mg/dl vs 4.3 ± 1.5 mg/dl, p < 0.0001). The postoperative NRS score was lower in MIS group (1.9 ± 0.8 vs 3.3 ± 1.3). PSF group was observed to have a significantly longer period of hospitalization than MIS (5.2 ± 1.4 days vs 6.3 ± 2.9 days, p = 0.206). Complications were more frequent in PSF group rather than in MFS group. Conclusions: MISS is a safe and capable alternative to PSF for AIS patients with curves < 70°, with analogue capacity of scoliosis correction and same operative time and with advantages in blood loss, length of stay and postoperative pain. Most studies which deal with natural populations require a reliable and convenient way of age estimation. However, even rough aging of live individuals is often a real challenge. In this study, we develop a radiographic method for age estimation in Ellobius talpinus, a promising model species for population and behavioral ecology. Using portable X-ray equipment, we radiographed wild, non-sedated animals from the population that had been subjected to extensive mark-recaptures for 3 years. Two molar metrics strongly dependent on age and easy to measure on radiographs were selected: the lengths of the synclinal folds of the 1st upper and 1st lower molars. No influence of sex on the molar condition age dynamics was found. Discriminant function analysis based on molar condition and date of radiography in 86 animals of known age classes assigned X-ray images to three age classes (young of the year, yearlings, and 2 years or older) with an accuracy of 99%. Leave-one-out cross-validation yielded 97% correct assignments. All age estimates for 52 repeatedly radiographed individuals were consistent across images. The analysis of the repeated X-ray images obtained from the same animals showed that the 1st lower molars change faster in the first summer of life than later whereas the change rate of the 1st upper molars decreases little throughout life. We propose the X-ray technique as a useful alternative to direct skull and dental morphometry for age estimation of wild small mammals, saving the investigator's time and lives of animals. This study aimed to evaluate the dose reduction using gonad shielding (GS) during pelvic imaging. Three types of pelvic images (radiography, magnetic resonance and computed tomography) were fused to elucidate the three-dimensional relationship between the position of ovaries and GS. To estimate the dose received by the ovaries, the off-axis dose at any given depth was measured under two different imaging conditions using thermoluminescence dosemeters and a polymethyl methacrylate phantom. The mean ovarian depth was 8.4 cm. The mean estimated ovarian dose without an additional filter was 0.36 mGy without GS and 0.14 mGy with GS. The mean estimated ovarian dose with an additional filter was 0.24 mGy without GS and 0.10 mGy with GS. The efficacy of ovarian dose reduction should be evaluated based on the achieved ovarian dose, considering the ovarian depth and use of additional filtration, rather than the ovarian protection rate of GS. Ameloblastic fibrodentinoma (AFD) is a rare benign odontogenic tumor that resembles an ameloblastic fibroma with dysplastic dentin. This report presents a rare case of mandibular AFD with imaging features in a young patient. Panoramic radiography and computed tomography revealed a well-defined lesion with internal septa and calcified foci, causing inferior displacement of the adjacent molars as well as buccolingual cortical thinning and expansion of the posterior mandible. The lesion was surgically removed via mass excision, and the involved tooth was extracted under general anesthesia. During the 5-year follow-up period, no evidence of recurrence was observed. Radiologic features of AFD typically reveal a moderately to well-defined mixed lesion with varying degrees of radiopacity, reflecting the extent of dentin formation. Radiologists should consider AFD in the differential diagnosis when encountering a multilocular lesion with little dense radiopacity, particularly if it is associated with delayed eruption, impaction, or absence of involved teeth, on radiographic images of young patients. Advances in digital radiography for both intraoral and panoramic imaging and cone-beam computed tomography have led the way to an increase in diagnostic capabilities for the dental care profession. In this article, the authors provide information on 4 emerging technologies with promise. The authors feature the following: artificial intelligence in the form of deep learning using convolutional neural networks, dental magnetic resonance imaging, stationary intraoral tomosynthesis, and second-generation cone-beam computed tomography sources based on carbon nanotube technology and multispectral imaging. The authors review and summarize articles featuring these technologies. The history and background of these emerging technologies are previewed along with their development and potential impact on the practice of dental diagnostic imaging. The authors conclude that these emerging technologies have the potential to have a substantial influence on the practice of dentistry as these systems mature. The degree of influence most likely will vary, with artificial intelligence being the most influential of the 4. The readers are informed about these emerging technologies and the potential effects on their practice going forward, giving them information on which to base decisions on adopting 1 or more of these technologies. The 4 technologies reviewed in this article have the potential to improve imaging diagnostics in dentistry thereby leading to better patient care and heightened professional satisfaction. This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of employing a deep learning approach for the automated detection of pulp stones in panoramic imaging. A comprehensive dataset comprising 2409 panoramic radiography images (7564 labels) underwent labeling using the CranioCatch labeling program, developed in Eskişehir, Turkey. The dataset was stratified into three distinct subsets: training (n = 1929, 80% of the total), validation (n = 240, 10% of the total), and test (n = 240, 10% of the total) sets. To optimize the visual clarity of labeled regions, a 3 × 3 clash operation was applied to the images. The YOLOv5 architecture was employed for artificial intelligence modeling, yielding F1, sensitivity, and precision metrics of 0.7892, 0.8026, and 0.7762, respectively, during the evaluation of the test dataset. Among deep learning-based artificial intelligence algorithms applied to panoramic radiographs, the use of numerical identification for the detection of pulp stones has achieved remarkable success. It is expected that the success rates of training models will increase by using datasets consisting of a larger number of images. Background. In recent times there has been an increased rate of admission into radiography courses in Nigerian universities, attributable to increased awareness for the course and brighter prospects of job opportunities both in Nigeria and abroad. This has put a strain on the learning environment for students. Objective. To determine students' perception of the impact of class population on radiography education and training in Nigeria. Methodology. A survey research design was adopted; an online semi-structured, self-administered questionnaire was developed and used by the researchers. Pilot test was conducted, and the questionnaire had a Cronbach's alpha of 0.8 in the reliability test. The questionnaire was administered to radiography students from 300 to 500 levels for a period of one month (June 2023). The data were analysed using SPSS version 20 IBM. Results. A total of 326 responses were recorded from nine universities, with 48.2% (n=157), 20.9% (n=68), and 31% (n=101) from 300-level, 400-level and 500-level, respectively. The average number of students per class for universities with 100 - 500 levels was 131.6 range (107.7-323.7). The majority of the respondents (42%, n=137) perceived that larger class size influences understanding of lectures (P=0.004); 27.3% (n=87) and 42.4% (n=137) perceived that the number of students in class was the reason they did not have access to the equipment in the skills laboratory (P=0.001), and during clinical posting (P=0.001), respectively. Conclusion. Large number students in class affects the students both in the theoretical and practical aspect of their training, adhering to RRBN recommendation might improve the learning outcome. Pericervical root dentin is decisive for the long-term mechanical integrity of root-filled teeth. Current treatment protocol does not include a customized step to determine the pretreatment residual pericervical root dentin. To determine and compare the residual root dentin and canal width using digital periapical radiography (DPR) and cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) at the apical limit of the pericervical area (PCA) in mandibular first molars. DPR and CBCT images of 60 patients with age between 22 and 76 years were used to determine (a) the mesiodistal widths of the root canal (pericervical dimensions [PCL]-C) and the root (PCL-R) of mandibular first molars at the apical limit of the PCA and (b) the intracanal distance from the apical limit of the PCA to the radiographic apex (intracanal distance [ICD]). The correlation between the PCL and ICD measurements obtained from DPR and CBCT were evaluated. Values between 0.10–0.80 mm and 0.00–1.10 mm were obtained for PCL-C using DPR and CBCT respectively (95% CI). The PCL values between 0.90–2.30 mm and 0.00–2.30 mm were obtained from DPR and CBCT respectively (95% CI). The ICD ranged between 4.6–12.3 mm in DPR and 4.40–12.0 mm in CBCT (95% CI). The comparative analysis showed differences from −0.9 to 0.5 mms for PCL and −2.00 to 1.5 mms for ICD between DPR and CBCT techniques respectively. The PCL and ICD determined from DPR and CBCT provided the pericervical dentin metrics that could be utilized clinically as a guideline for decision-making in endodontic treatment. Two intact male dogs were evaluated for symptoms, including hematuria, prostatomegaly, anuria, lethargy, and abdominal mass. Presurgical evaluations, including complete physical examinations, blood examinations, abdominal radiography with contrast (only in Case 2), ultrasonography, and computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging (only in Case 1), were performed. A paraprostatic cyst was diagnosed initially, and laparoscopic exploration and surgery were performed. Complete resection was performed in case 1, whereas partial resection with omentalization was performed in case 2. Histopathological examination of the tissue samples confirmed the presence of paraprostatic pseudocysts in both cases, with no evidence of an epithelial lining. These two cases represent the first documented instances of laparoscopic treatment for extraparenchymal prostatic cysts. The laparoscopic treatment proved feasible even in the case of a giant cyst causing anuria (Case 2). Paraprostatic cysts should be considered a potential differential diagnosis for abnormal urination accompanied by an abdominal mass, and long-term postoperative follow-up is necessary. Background: Lobar pneumonia caused by Mycoplasma pneumoniae is a relatively difficult-to-treat pneumonia in children. The time of radiographic resolution after treatment is variable, a long recovery time can result in several negative effects, and it has attracted our attention. Therefore, exploring factors associated with delayed radiographic resolution will help to identify these children at an early stage and prepare for early intervention. Methods: The data of 339 children with lobar pneumonia caused by Mycoplasma pneumoniae were collected from the Department of Pediatrics of Fu Yang People's Hospital, China from January 2021 to June 2022. After discharge, the children were regularly followed up in the outpatient department and on the WeChat platform for > 8 weeks. According to whether pulmonary imaging (chest radiography or plain chest computed tomography) returned to normal within 8 weeks, the children were divided into the delayed recovery group (DRG) (n = 69) and the normal recovery group (NRG) (n = 270). The children's general information, laboratory examination findings, bronchoscopy results, and imaging findings were retrospectively analyzed. Single-factor analysis was performed to identify the risk factors for delayed radiographic resolution of lobar pneumonia caused by Mycoplasma pneumoniae, and the factors with statistically significant differences underwent multiple-factor logistic regression analysis. Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) analysis was then performed to calculate the cutoff value of early predictive indicators of delayed radiographic resolution. Results: Single-factor analysis showed that the following were significantly greater in the DRG than NRG: total fever duration, the hospitalization time, C-reactive protein (CRP) level, lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) level, D-dimer level, pulmonary lesions involving two or more lobes, a large amount of pleural effusion, the time to interventional bronchoscopy, and mucus plugs formation. Multivariate logistic regression analysis showed that the hospitalization time, CRP level, LDH level, pulmonary lesions involving two or more lobes, and a large amount of pleural effusion were independent risk factors for delayed radiographic resolution of lobar pneumonia caused by Mycoplasma pneumoniae. The cutoff values on the receiver operating characteristic curve were a hospitalization time of ≥ 10.5 days, CRP level of ≥ 25.92 mg/L, and LDH level of ≥ 378 U/L. Conclusion: If patients with lobar pneumonia caused by Mycoplasma pneumoniae have a hospitalization time of ≥ 10.5 days, CRP level of ≥ 25.92 mg/L, and LDH level ≥ 378 U/L, the time of radiographic resolution is highly likely to exceed 8 weeks. Pediatricians must maintain a high level of vigilance for these factors, control the infection as early as possible, strengthen airway management, and follow up closely to avoid complications and sequelae of Mycoplasma pneumoniae pneumonia. Background: Accurate assessment of remaining dentin thickness (RDT) is paramount for restorative decisions and treatment planning of vital teeth to avoid any pulpal injury. This diagnostic accuracy study compared the validity and patient satisfaction of an electrical impedance based device Prepometer™ (Hager & Werken, Duisburg, Germany) versus intraoral digital radiography for the estimation of remaining dentin thickness in carious posterior permanent teeth. Methods: Seventy patients aged 12–25 years with carious occlusal or proximal permanent vital posterior teeth were recruited. Tooth preparation was performed to receive an adhesive restoration. Pre- and post-excavation RDT were measured radiographically by two calibrated raters using the paralleling periapical technique. Prepometer™ measurements were performed by the operator. Patients rated their satisfaction level with each tool on a 4-point Likert scale and 100 mm visual analog scale (VAS). Inter and intragroup comparisons were analyzed using signed rank test, while agreement between devices and observations was tested using weight kappa (WK) coefficient. Results: the intergroup comparisons showed that, before and after excavation, there was a significant difference between measurements made by both techniques (p < 0.001). After excavation, there was a weak agreement between measurements (WK = 0.2, p < 0.001), whereas before excavation, the agreement was not statistically significant (p = 0.407). Patients were significantly more satisfied with Prepometer™ based on scales and VAS (p < 0.001). Conclusion: Prepometer™ could be a viable clinical tool for determining RDT with high patient satisfaction, while radiographs tended to overestimate RDT in relation to the Prepometer™. Background: Non-operative management is typically indicated for extra-articular distal radius fractures. Conservative treatments such as Sugar tong splints (STs) and Muenster splints (MUs) are commonly used. However, there is limited research and outcome data comparing the two splint types. Therefore, this study aimed to investigate and compare the radiographic and clinical outcomes of treatment using STs and MUs. Methods: In this retrospective comparative study, we aimed to evaluate and compare the radiographic and clinical outcomes of STs and MUs for the treatment of distal radius fractures. The study included 64 patients who underwent closed reduction (CR) in the emergency room and were treated with either STs or MUs splints (STs group: n = 38, MUs group: n = 26). Initial X-rays, post-CR X-rays, and last outpatient follow-up X-rays were evaluated. Radial height (RH), ulnar variance (UV), radial inclination (RI), and volar tilt (VT) were measured by a blinded investigator. The Quick DASH form was applied to measure patients' satisfaction after treatments. Results: There were no significant differences in baseline characteristics, initial radiographic measurements, or radiographic measurements immediately after CR between the two groups. However, the overall radiological values deteriorated to some degree in both groups compared to the post-CR images. Furthermore, using a paired test, the STs group showed significant differences in RH and RI, and the MUs group showed significant differences in RH and UV between the last follow-up and post-CR images. Conclusions: The study concluded that there was no difference in clinical outcomes between the two splint types. However, both STs and MUs groups showed reduced radiographic parameters, and the MUs group showed a significant reduction of RH and UV in the treatment of distal radius fractures. Background: Segmental aplasia of the caudal vena cava (CVC) with azygos continuation is a congenital malformation macroscopically described in mammals including humans, dogs, and rodents. It is usually detected as an incidental finding and the final diagnosis is reached by computed tomography (CT), fluoroscopy, or post-mortem dissection. Case Description: A 3-year-old guinea pig (Cavia porcellus) presented with subacute dyspnea. A computed tomographic examination was performed for the evaluation of subtle pulmonary changes previously suspected on conventional radiography, and a segmental aplasia of the CVC with azygos continuation was identified as an incidental finding. Optimized ODF machine for large scale display filled by ferroelectric liquid crystals (FLCs) is developed. Fast FLC filling at high temperature (100°C) in the vacuum, and sealing can automatically be done in one reaction pot. An uniform cell with good alignment quality and electro‐optical (E&O) performance are achieved which shows high contrast ratio (CR) =10000 :1 and a fast response time (33 μs) at room temperature, respectively.
