Asked undergraduate students' opinions of Descartes' belief that the mind and body are separate, then had them conduct action research projects examining whether the mind-body dilemma might be overcome if teachers valued the essential nature of play and applied it to sport and physical education. Results supported the hypothesis that physical activity declines without play, in any context. (SM)

Abstract

With rising statistics of pregnant teens and those with STDs, the need for early, innovative interventions to educate young people about puberty and dating is needed. Web-based interventions hold particular promise in this area because of the non-threatening and anonymous atmosphere they provide. However, moving beyond the promise of technology is the added element of tailoring information to the individual in order to stimulate interest and motivation to fully engage the content. Tailoring uses assessment questions to automatically generate content specifically matched to each user's characteristics that are theoretically linked to the behaviors being targeted. It is believed that such an intervention can increase elaboration of the content improve knowledge gain and consequently, effect health behavior change. This paper details the development and testing of such a system. Lessons learned during this process can serve as guidelines for future research on teen education, and web-based delivery of tailored health content. ..PAT.-Unpublished Manuscript [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
