Abstract

Composite sorbents based on Fe3O4 and Zn-Al-LDH with different weight ratios of magnetic and sorbing phases were obtained by the precipitation method. The optimal weight ratio of Zn/Fe was 16, which resulted in a 62% increase in hydromechanical strength. The maximum sorption exchange capacity towards U(VI) was 268.65 ± 22.22 mg/g. The efficiency of U(VI) adsorption was not affected by the presence of Cl−, SO42−, NO3− and Na+, Ca2+. The distribution coefficient in a groundwater model solution was Kd(U(VI) = 0.5–3 × 105 mL/g. The materials possess high exchange capacity and selectivity, which makes them suitable sorbents for U(VI) removal. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

The problem of tunneling control in systems "quantum dot - quantum well" (as well as "quantum dot - quantum dot" or quantum molecule) and "quantum dot - bulk contact" is studied as a quantum tunneling with dissipation process in the semiclassical (instanton) approximation. For these systems temperature and correlation between a quantum dot radius and a quantum well width (or another quantum dot radius) are considered to be control parameters. The condition for a single electron blockade is found in the limit of quantum dot. The criteria for an extreme tunneling current in quantum molecules are also presented. Abstract

The paper studies synthetic osteoplastic powder biocomposite, which is bioactive and extremely relevant for bone defect recovery in dentistry and maxillo-facial surgery. Biocomposite fabrication strategy is based on an original sol-gel (template) synthesis of the porous wollastonite containing 30 wt.% of hydroxyapatite. The way to tailor porosity in the material has been proposed involving siloxane-acrylate latex and carbon fibers as pore-forming templates. Phase formation in the composition structure has been investigated by the means of TG/DTA/DSC and XRD. SEM, low temperature nitrogen sorption, and mercury porosimetry has been used to characterize biocomposite's morphology and microstructure. “In vitro” and "In vivo" biocompatibility tests have been carried out. Histological analysis and multislice CT reveal the ability of the biocomposite to integrate into the area of the under-jaw defect (alveolar socket) of the test animal. Blood count assay shows no direct toxic influence of such implants on a living organism.

32. Influence of homogeneous nucleation on vapor parameters near the evaporation surface: a simplified approach

Abstract

An approach that makes it possible to assess the need to take into account / neglect the process of homogeneous nucleation on the flow of vapor formed near the interface as a result of evaporation is presented. It is shown that estimations require information about the value of the surface tension coefficient of the critical size droplets. The influence of the homogeneous nucleation process on the evaporation of various substances: water, ethanol, and methanol is considered. The results show that for water, consideration of the process of homogeneous nucleation is necessary only for supersaturation ratio greater than 20, in contrast to the evaporation of methanol, when homogeneous nucleation must be taken into account at any supersaturation ratio Keywords: homogeneous nucleation, evaporation, supersaturation degree.
