With the escalating demand for meal delivery services, this study delves into the Meal Delivery Routing Problem (MDRP) within the context of last-mile logis-tics. Focusing on the critical aspects of courier allocation and order fulfillment, we introduce a novel approach utilizing a GRASP metaheuristic. The algorithm optimizes the assignment of couriers to orders, considering dynamic factors such as courier availability, order demands, and geographical locations. Real-world in-stances from a Colombian delivery app form the basis of our computational anal-ysis. Calibration of GRASP parameters reveals a delicate trade-off between solu-tion quality and computational time. Comparative results with a simulation-optimization based study underscore GRASP's competitive performance, demon-strating strengths in fulfilling orders and routing efficiency across diverse in-stances. This paper investigates a specific instance of the static repositioning problem within station-based bike-sharing systems. Our study incorporates operational and damaged bikes, a heterogeneous fleet, and multiple visits between stations and the depot. The objective is to minimize the weighted sum of the deviation from the target number of bikes for each station, the number of damaged bikes not removed, and the total time used by vehicles. To solve this problem, we propose a matheuristic approach based on a randomized multi-start algorithm integrated with an integer programming model for optimizing the number of operatives and damaged bikes that will be moved between stations and/or the depot (loading instructions). The algorithm's effectiveness was assessed using instances derived from real-world data, yielding encouraging results. Furthermore, we adapted our algorithm to a simpler problem studied in the literature, achieving competitive outcomes compared to other existing methods. Efficient path planning is key for safe autonomous navigation over complex and unknown terrains. Lunar Zebro (LZ), a project of the Delft University of Technology, aims to deploy a compact rover, no larger than an A4 sheet of paper and weighing not more than 3 kilograms. In this work, we introduce a Robust Artificial Potential Field (RAPF) algorithm, a new path-planning algorithm for reliable local navigation solution for lunar microrovers. RAPF leverages and improves state of the art Artificial Potential Field (APF)-based methods by incorporating the position of the robot in the generation of bacteria points and considering local minima as regions to avoid. We perform both simulations and on field experiments to validate the performance of RAPF, which outperforms state-of-the-art APF-based algorithms by over 15% in reachability within a similar or shorter planning time. The improvements resulted in a 200% higher success rate and 50% lower computing time compared to the conventional APF algorithm. Near-optimal paths are computed in real-time with limited available processing power. Kondo lattice systems are recognized for potentially hosting a variety of rich topological phases. Several pioneering studies have demonstrated significant anomalous Hall and anomalous Nernst effects in these systems, attributed to the Berry curvature of the hybridization bands. In this study, we investigate UBiTe, a ferromagnetic Kondo lattice system. Our findings reveal that the intrinsic contribution to the anomalous Hall conductivity is closely tied to the Kondo coherence temperature. Moreover, we demonstrate that slight shifts in the Fermi level across three different samples significantly influence this intrinsic contribution, in alignment with the Berry curvature localized within the narrow hybridization bands. This provides a stark contrast to the less pronounced sensitivity observed in weakly correlated Weyl semimetals, underscoring the distinctive electronic properties of Kondo lattice systems. The anomalous Hall conductivity of one samples ranks among the highest reported for topological magnetic materials.

The exploration of the lunar poles and the collection of samples from the martian surface are characterized by shorter time windows demanding increased autonomy and speeds. Autonomous mobile robots must intrinsically cope with a wider range of disturbances. Faster off-road navigation has been explored for terrestrial applications but the combined effects of increased speeds and reduced gravity fields are yet to be fully studied. In this paper, we design and demonstrate a novel fully passive suspension design for wheeled planetary robots, which couples for the first time a high-range passive rocker with elastic in-wheel coil-over shock absorbers. The design was initially conceived and verified in a reduced-gravity (1.625 m/s${^2}$) simulated environment, where three different passive suspension configurations were evaluated against steep slopes and unexpected obstacles, and later prototyped and validated in a series of field tests. An efficient characterization of scientifically significant locations is essential prior to the return of humans to the Moon. The highest resolution imagery acquired from orbit of south-polar shadowed regions and other relevant locations remains, at best, an order of magnitude larger than the characteristic length of most of the robotic systems to be deployed. This hinders the planning and successful implementation of prospecting missions and poses a high risk for the traverse of robots and humans, diminishing the potential overall scientific and commercial return of any mission. We herein present the design of a lightweight, compact, autonomous, and reusable lunar reconnaissance drone capable of assisting other ground-based robotic assets, and eventually humans, in the characterization and high-resolution mapping (~0.1 m/px) of particularly challenging and hard-to-access locations on the lunar surface. The proposed concept consists of two main subsystems: the drone and its service station. With a total combined wet mass of 100 kg, the system is capable of 11 flights without refueling the service station, enabling almost 9 km of accumulated flight distance. The deployment of such a system could significantly impact the efficiency of upcoming exploration missions, increasing the distance covered per day of exploration and significantly reducing the need for recurrent contacts with ground stations on Earth.

An emerging paradigm is being embraced in the conceptualization of future planetary exploration missions. Ambitious objectives and increasingly demanding mission constraints stress the importance associated with faster surface mobility. Driving speeds approaching or surpassing 1 m/s have been rarely used and their effect on performance is today unclear. This study presents experimental evidence and preliminary observations on the impact that increasing velocity has on the tractive performance of planetary rovers. Single-wheel driving tests were conducted using two different metallic, grousered wheels-one rigid and one flexible-over two different soils, olivine sand and CaCO3-based silty soil. Experiments were conducted at speeds between 0.01-1 m/s throughout an ample range of slip ratios (5-90%). Three performance metrics were evaluated: drawbar pull coefficient, wheel sinkage, and tractive efficiency. Results showed similar data trends among all the cases investigated. Drawbar pull and tractive efficiency considerably decreased for speeds beyond 0.2 m/s. Wheel sinkage, unlike what published evidence suggested, increased with increasing velocities. The flexible wheel performed the best at 1m/s, exhibiting 2 times higher drawbar pull and efficiency with 18% lower sinkage under low slip conditions. Although similar data trends were obtained, a different wheel-soil interactive behavior was observed when driving over the different soils. Overall, despite the performance reduction experienced at higher velocities, a speed in the range of 0.2-0.3 m/s would enable 5-10 times faster traverses, compared to current rovers driving capability, while only diminishing drawbar pull and efficiency by 7%. Recent work has shown impressive localization performance using only images of ground textures taken with a downward facing monocular camera. This provides a reliable navigation method that is robust to feature sparse environments and challenging lighting conditions. However, these localization methods require an existing map for comparison. Our work aims to relax the need for a map by introducing a full simultaneous localization and mapping (SLAM) system. By not requiring an existing map, setup times are minimized and the system is more robust to changing environments. This SLAM system uses a combination of several techniques to accomplish this. Image keypoints are identified and projected into the ground plane. These keypoints, visual bags of words, and several threshold parameters are then used to identify overlapping images and revisited areas. The system then uses robust M-estimators to estimate the transform between robot poses with overlapping images and revisited areas. These optimized estimates make up the map used for navigation.
