Based upon the book "The Anatomie of Abuses" by Phillip Stubbes, the article provides detailed descriptions of Elizabethan era pastimes, clothing and dress, and celebrations. English Puritan pamphleteer Stubbes wrote the book as a criticism of customs he felt were irreligious and unseemly. Descriptions are provided for Tudor-period football, the pagan-based May Day celebrations, and the Lords of Misrule who oversaw local folk festivals. Illustrations from the book depicting taverns, gambling, and period fashions featuring ruffs and farthingales are provided.
