In the present study, a total of 8 plant extracts was used for their antibacterial activity against bacteria, Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus by using agar well diffusion method. Mangifera ethanolic extract showed best results as inhibitory activity against both bacteria, Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus with diameter of zone of inhibition (ZOI) 41mm and 22mm, respectively. Zingiber ethanolic extract showed inhibitory activity against Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus with zone of inhibition 10 mm and 12mm. Punica ethanolic extract exhibited 12mm and 15mm zone of inhibition against E. coli and S. aureus. Psidium ethanolic extract showed 20mm ZOI against S. aureus. Azadirachta, Murraya and Curcuma ethanolic extract displayed inhibitory activity against S. aureus with 15 mm zone of inhibition. Azadirachta ethanolic extract showed activity against E. coli (13mm). Cuminum ethanlic extractshowed 15mm ZOI against E.coli. A total of 8 antibiotics were used against E. coli and S. aureus in antibiotic susceptibility pattern of test culture. Out of 8 antibiotics, Gentamycin showed best actions against both test bacteria, E. coli (ZOI: 30mm) and S. aureus (31mm). Chloramphenicol showed 20mm and 30mm against test bacteria, E. coli and S. aureus, respectively. E. coli and S. aureus showed resistant against 4 antibiotics namely Ampicilin, Cephalothin, Clindamysin, Oxacillin. Mangifera ethanolic extract showed the MIC of 5% (w/v) against E. coli and 0.62% (w/v) against S. aureus. The Mangifera ethanolic extract revealed the presence of flavonoids, tannins and saponinsas phytochemical constituents. Alkaloids and phenols were found to be absent. It can be suggested from the present study that Mangifera sp. ethanolic extract may be used as natural antibacterial against the infection caused by E. coli and S. aureus. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In this study, the heat pump drying technique was applied to develop the production process of dried mango from Tu Quy mango sources, Ben Tre province, Vietnam. The experiment was performed in three steps. First, mango slices were treated through the blanching process. Samples were pretreated with sizes from 6 to 12mm at 80-95°C for 3-6min, and then the mango slices were soaked in a syrup solution concentration range of 25-40°Bx, citric acid of 0.5-2%, and glycerol of 0.1-0.4% at 35-65°C for 90-180min. Finally, the samples were dried using a pilot-scale heat pump dryer until the moisture content reached 14-16%. The results showed that the blanching and osmosis processes were carried out under optimal conditions to inactivate the Polyphenol oxidase (PPO) enzyme, obtain maximum polyphenol compounds, and conform to the product appearance. Additionally, the drying process was carried out at 30°C for 1,080min with the polyphenol content retaining 11.71 mgGAE/gDW--This signifies a successful endeavor in developing production methodologies and expanding the range of mango-derived products. Employing innovative technological processes enhances both the quantity and quality of the products. Moreover, the manufacturing procedure was executed on a pilot device, streamlining the synchronization of large-scale production processes effortlessly. This study examines the potential antidiabetic activity of a combination of Mangifera foetida L. and Pandanus amaryllifolius Roxb. leaves. Mangifera leaves contain a compound called mangiferin, which acts as an antidiabetic and antioxidant. On the other hand, Pandanus leaves, are rich in terpenoids and steroids that also possess anti-diabetic effects. An Oral Glucose Tolerance Test (OGTT) was conducted on male mice of the Babl/c strain to assess the antidiabetic effects. The test involved administering a combination of ethanolic leaf extracts from Mangifera foetida L. and Pandanus amaryllifolius Roxb. in a 1:1 ratio. The study followed a pre-test design with a control group, comprising six treatment groups, each consisting of four male mice. The groups were described as follows: Group 1 was served as the normal group without any treatment. Groups II-IV received single extracts or combinations of extracts at doses of 62.5 mg/200g BW, 125 mg/200g BW, and 250 mg/200g BW. Group V acted as the positive control and was given oral glucose and glibenclamide at a dose of 0.09 mg/200g BW. Group VI was served as the negative control, receiving oral glucose and distilled water. The group that exhibited the highest percentage of decreased blood sugar levels was the one given oral glucose at a dose of 0.078g/20g BW of mice, along with the combination of Mangifera foetida L. and Pandanus amaryllifolius Roxb. leaves extract (1:1) at a dose of 35 mg/20g BW. This group demonstrated a decrease of 71.985 ± 4.858 in blood glucose levels. The ANOVA analysis confirmed that the percentage decrease in blood sugar levels was significantly different from the positive control, indicating a higher effectiveness of the combination treatment in reducing blood glucose levels than the positive control. The genus Ceratocystis contains a number of emerging plant pathogens, mostly members of the Latin American Clade (LAC), in which there are several unresolved taxonomic controversies. Among the most important are Brazilian pathogens in the C. fimbriata complex, C. manginecans and C. eucalypticola. Representatives of C. manginecans and C. eucalypticola from India and China, respectively, were shown to be fully interfertile in laboratory matings, and hybrids between the putative species were identified on Punica in India. An Indian tester strain was sexually compatible with representatives of what has been considered C. fimbriata on numerous hosts across Brazil. In this revision of the LAC, the name C. fimbriata is restricted to the widely dispersed Ipomoea strain, and C. manginecans is recognized as a Brazilian species that is important on Mangifera, Eucalyptus, and many other crops. C. mangivora and C. mangicola are also considered synonyms of C. manginecans. Based on phylogenetics and mating studies, two other Brazilian species are recognized: C. atlantica, sp. nov., and C. alfenasii, sp. nov., each with wide host ranges. Three new Caribbean species are recognized based on phylogenetics and earlier inoculation studies: C. costaricensis, sp. nov., on Coffea, C. cubensis, sp. nov., on Spathodea, and C. xanthosomatis, sp. nov., on the vegetatively propagated aroids Xanthosoma and Syngonium. Some of the other Ceratocystis species were based primarily on unique internal transcribed spacer (ITS) rDNA sequences, but the unreliability of rDNA sequences was demonstrated when intraspecific crossing of isolates with differing ITS sequences generated single-ascospore progeny with intragenomic variation in ITS sequences and others with new ITS sequences. Species recognition in Ceratocystis should use phenotype, including intersterility tests, to help identify which lineages are species. Mangifera indica L. (Mango), a member of the Anacardiaceae family, is native to the tropical and subtropical regions of the world. Leaves of M. indica exhibit pharmacological potential as a panacea. The current study aimed to systematically review the phytochemistry and biological effects of M. indica leaves (MILs). Google Scholar, PubMed, Scopus, and Web of Science were used to review the relevant literature. MILs are reported to possess remarkable medicinal properties owing to a plethora of phytochemicals, namely, minerals, vitamins, flavonoids, phenolic acids, terpenes, benzophenones, tannins, saponins, and alkaloids. MILs have been investigated for numerous therapeutic effects, including anticancer, anti-diabetic, antioxidant, antiviral, antibacterial, antifungal, antidiarrheal, antiulcer, gastrointestinal, anti-obesity, cardioprotection, hypotensive, analgesic, and hepato-protection. In this review, phytochemistry, pharmacology as well as toxicology of MILs have been critically discussed. Considering their phytochemical profile and pharmacological benefits, MILs can be used for the development of valuable pharmaceutical products. Abstract Background The aim of this study was to compare and investigate the effects of 1-(3-phenyl-propyl) cyclopropene (PPCP) and melatonin (MT) as anti-ethylene agents on postharvest senescence, quality, chilling tolerance, and antioxidant metabolism in the mango fruit cv. “Keitt”. The study involved exposing the fruit to 20 μL L− 1 PPCP or 200 μM MT, in addition to a control group of untreated fruit, before storing them at 5 ± 1 °C for 28 d. The findings revealed that the treatments with PPCP and MT were effective in reducing chilling injury and preserving fruit quality when compared to the control group. Results The use of 20 μL L− 1 PPCP was an effective treatment in terms of mitigating chilling injury and preserving fruit quality for 28 d. This was attributed to the decrease in metabolic activity, specifically the respiration rate and the production of ethylene, which led to the maintenance of fruit firmness and bioactive compounds, energy metabolism, and antioxidant activity, such as ascorbic acid, total flavonoids, trolox equivalent antioxidant capacity, dehydroascorbate reductase, glutathione reductase activity, ATP, and ATPase activity. The study also found that the MT treatment at 200 μM was effective in reducing chilling injury and weight loss and improving membrane stability. Additionally, it led to a decrease in malondialdehyde content and electrolyte leakage, and the maintenance of fruit quality in terms of firmness, peel and pulp colour values for mango peel and pulp total carotenoid content, as well as phenylalanine ammonia lyase and tyrosine ammonia lyase activity. These findings indicate that PPCP and MT have the potential to be efficient treatments in maintaining mango quality and minimizing post-harvest losses. Conclusion The utilisation of treatments with 20 μL L− 1 of PPCP or 200 μM MT was found to effectively preserve the postharvest quality parameters, in terms of bioactive compounds, energy metabolism, and antioxidant activity, of mangoes cv. “Keitt” that were stored at 5 ± 1 °C for 28 d.

While health effects of conventional tobacco are well defined, data on vaping devices, including one of the most popular e-cigarettes which have high nicotine levels, are less established. Prior acute e-cigarette studies have demonstrated inflammatory and cardiopulmonary physiology changes while chronic studies have demonstrated extra-pulmonary effects, including neurotransmitter alterations in reward pathways. In this study we investigated the impact of inhalation of aerosols produced from pod-based, flavored e-cigarettes (JUUL) aerosols three times daily for 3 months on inflammatory markers in the brain, lung, heart, and colon. JUUL aerosol exposure induced upregulation of cytokine and chemokine gene expression and increased HMGB1 and RAGE in the nucleus accumbens in the central nervous system. Inflammatory gene expression increased in the colon, while gene expression was more broadly altered by e-cigarette aerosol inhalation in the lung. Cardiopulmonary inflammatory responses to acute lung injury with lipopolysaccharide were exacerbated in the heart. Flavor-specific findings were detected across these studies. Our findings suggest that daily e-cigarette use may cause neuroinflammation, which may contribute to behavioral changes and mood disorders. In addition, e-cigarette use may cause gut inflammation, which has been tied to poor systemic health, and cardiac inflammation, which leads to cardiovascular disease.

Introduction: The present study was developed to investigate and compare the extraction yield, the contents of polyphenols and mangiferin, the activities against Propionibacterium acnes, Staphylococcus aureus, and Escherichia coli bacteria, and the anti-inflammatory activities of ethanol extracts of mango seed kernels vs. seed coats. Methods: Mango seed kernels and seed coats were extracted using ethanol as the solvent and tested against microorganisms using the disc diffusion method. The minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) levels of extracts were determined by the agar dilution method. The anti-inflammatory activities were assessed both in vitro and in vivo by albumin denaturation method and carrageenan-induced paw edema test, respectively. Results: Both extracts yielded high contents of mangiferin and phenolic compounds. The antibacterial activities of both extracts showed inhibition of the tested microorganisms Propionibacterium acnes and Staphylococcus aureus but not Escherichia coli. Seed kernel extract (0.2 g/kg) reduced paw edema by 44.8% at 3 hours after λ-carrageenan administration. Meanwhile, 0.5 g/kg seed coat extract reduced paw edema less than the seed kernel extract (23.1% vs. 44.8%). Mango seed kernel extract, mango seed coat extract, and diclofenac sodium displayed concentration-dependent inhibition of heat-induced protein denaturation with IC50 values of 137.23 μg/mL, 292.12 μg/mL, and 6.64 μg/mL, respectively. Conclusion: The obtained results confirmed the antibacterial and anti-inflammatory potential of mango seed kernel and seed coat extracts. The mango seed kernel extract was proven to be more effective than the mango seed coat extract and thus can be used in cosmetics as an anti-inflammatory and antibacterial agent.

The present study is aimed to examine the effect of various parameters (pH, solid to liquid ratio, extraction time and temperature) on starch content, total phenolic content (TPC) and antioxidant activity of extracts obtained from seed kernel of mango var. Kesar. Isolation of starch from mango kernel by employing the ethanol precipitation method has been assessed. Box-Behnken design has been used to develop, validate and optimize the statistical model in order to establish the impact of various parameters either alone or in combination followed by characterization of starch. A decrease in pH has increased the extraction of starch while other responses such as TPC and antioxidant activity did not show a significant variation. The yield of total phenolic compound has been improved with decrease in solid to liquid ratio by increasing the solvent volume. The optimum conditions have been found to be 2.5 pH, 24 min extraction time and 1:55 g/mL solid to liquid ratio. Under these conditions, the highest extraction yield of starch and TPC are found to be 13.93 g/100 g and 33.45 mg GAE/g, respectively. No significant variation in antioxidant activity has been observed. A better and value-added utilization of the waste material can tender environmentally sustainable and economically viable solution. Mangoes belong to Mangifera (Anacardiaceae), which contains 69 species, but only Mangifera indica is popularly cultivated and commercialized. Mango is one of the most important crops grown in China's Yunnan Province and significantly contributes to the economic security of these locals. Endophytic fungi have been recognized as beneficial microbes that improve plant growth, productivity, and survivability under environmental stress. Nevertheless, many host plant-related endophytic fungi are yet to be identified, including the mango-related species. During this study, we recognized three different fungal species in the family Chaetomiaceae derived from healthy mango (Mangifera indica) leaves based on morphological examinations coupled with multi-gene phylogenetic analysis (ITS, LSU, rpb2, and tub2). These species are Dichotomopilus funicola (KUNCC23-13347) and Humicola wallefii (KUNCC22-10759, 23-13348), derived from new hosts, and a new species of Arcopilus hongheensis (KUNCC22-10767, 23-13346). Dolichothrips indicus (Hood, 1919) (Thysanoptera: Phlaeothripidae) is frequently found in flower buds, flowers and inflorescences of different plant species, so its role as a possible pollinating agent is considered in several studies. The presence of D. indicus in panicles of the "Azúcar" variety mango crop is recorded for the first time in Colombia. Background: Various preventive actions are being developed to prevent dental caries. On the other hand, some of these methods can only be applied by the dentist. Therefore, it is necessary to find an alternative caries prevention method. Purpose: This study aimed to determine the antibacterial activity of mango (Mangifera indica L.) leaves extract in inhibiting the growth of Streptococcus mutans. Methods: This research is experimental laboratory research and used a random sampling technique. Mango (M. indica L.) leaves extract was diluted using the double dilution method, which were 50%, 25%, 12.5%, 6.25%, 3.12%, 1.6%, 0.8%, 0.4%, 0.2%, 0.15%, 0.1%, 0.05%, and 0.025%. The Minimum Bactericidal Concentration (MBC) of mango (M. indica L.) leaves extract against S. mutans was determined using the agar plate thinning method. Results: The results showed no bacterial growth in the media with 100%, 50%, and 25% mango leaves extract. In addition, it was found that in media with 12.5% mango leaves extract still showed colony growth. Conclusion: Mango (M. indica L.) leaves extract in ethanol solvent has an antibacterial effect against S. mutans with the MBC value of 25%. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Food baits are effective and widely used tools for monitoring diversity and abundance of tephritid fruit flies. Four food-baits-Nulure, BioLure, Mazoferm at 3 and 6%, and Torula yeast-were used in multi-lure traps over a 4-yr period in mango orchards in three Benin agro-ecological zones (AEZ) representing a large swath of environments in western Africa. Twelve tephritid fruit fly species were captured during the trials, with the highest richness in the Forest Savannah Mosaic (FSM), followed by the Southern Guinea Savannah (SGS), and the Northern Guinea Savannah (NGS) AEZ. Despite previous reports of displacement, the native species Ceratitis cosyra remained the dominant tephritid species in mango orchards in the NGS, with the invasive and exotic species Bactrocera dorsalis dominating the tephritid fauna in the SGS and FSM. Torula yeast captured the greatest number of fruit flies in each AEZ. Mazoferm-3% captures were similar to Torula yeast, except for lower captures in the NGS where it tended to harden. The rank order of relative efficiency indices (REI) of the food baits (relative to Torula yeast) is Mazoferm-3% > Nulure > Mazoferm-6% and BioLure. The latter captured more Ceratitis spp. than all the other baits, particularly at very low Ceratitis spp. abundance. To our knowledge, the study is the first to report relative efficiency indices for the selection of food baits in monitoring diversity and abundance of fruit flies. Ecological and practical implications for the use of food baits in comparison with male lures are discussed.

Mangos are rich in β-carotene and other carotenoids, along with several phenolic acids that may provide oxidant defense and photoprotection to the skin. The objectives of this study are to investigate the effects of Ataulfo mango intake on the development of facial wrinkles and erythema. A randomized two-group parallel-arm study was conducted to assess 16 weeks of either 85 g or 250 g of mango intake in healthy postmenopausal women with Fitzpatrick skin type II or III. Facial photographs were captured at weeks 0, 8, and 16, and wrinkles at the lateral canthi and erythema at the cheeks were quantified. Skin carotenoid values were measured with reflection spectroscopy. Deep wrinkle severity decreased significantly in the 85 g group after 8 (p = 0.007) and 16 (p = 0.03) weeks compared to baseline measures. In contrast, those in the 250 g group showed an increase after 16 weeks in average wrinkle severity (p = 0.049), average wrinkle length (p = 0.007), fine wrinkle severity (p = 0.02), and emerging wrinkle severity (p = 0.02). Erythema in the cheeks increased with 85 g of mango intake (p = 0.04). The intake of 85 g of mangos reduced wrinkles in fair-skinned postmenopausal women, while an intake of 250 g showed the opposite effect. Further studies feeding 85 g of mangos are warranted.

Anacardiaceae is well-known for its edible fruits and economically important species in Indonesia. Approximately 3% of Indonesia's endangered and vulnerable species belong to this family. Fast and accurate species identification is crucial to support the conservation efforts for this family, such as employing DNA sequences. Species identification using DNA sequences, known as DNA barcoding, has been widely used in many applied fields. So far, the application of DNA barcoding for Anacardiaceae plant species is limited to several genera only, such as Mangifera and Spondias. This research aimed to enrich the DNA barcode references of Anacardiaceae and to evaluate the most suitable and effective genetic marker as DNA barcodes to identify species of 35 samples representing sixteen species of the Anacardiaceae family using chloroplast markers matK and rbcL as barcode regions. When comparing the morphological identification with the molecular assignments, the barcode accuracy was 62.50% (matK), 60.61% (rbcL), and 73.33% (matK+rbcL) at the genus level. All the markers failed to show a barcoding gap, even though the t-test showed that the intraspecific and interspecific genetic distances were significantly different for matK and rbcL+matK. Among others, Gluta walichii (Hook.f.) Ding Hou and Melanochyla caesia Jack were the only species successfully resolved by all markers. Nevertheless, new DNA barcodes of six Anacardiaceae species were made available by this study, enriching the genetic references of tropical flora diversity. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: Hepatitis C is caused by hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection. HCV infection is one of the biggest causes of chronic liver disease. About 60-80% of patients with acute hepatitis C will develop chronic hepatitis C. Objective: This study aimed to analyze the potential of mango peel compounds as HCV NS5B inhibitors. Methods: The methods in this study are ligand preparation, physicochemical and pharmacokinetic predictions, protein structure preparation, molecular docking, data analysis, and visualization. Results: The results showed that the test ligands had binding free energies close to the reference ligands, namely Mangiferin -7.862 kcal/mol and respectively D-(+)-Maltose -6.453 kcal/mol, Dibutyl - phthalate -6.326 kcal/mol, bis-ß-D-fructofuranose 1,2':2,3'-dianhydride -6.249 kcal/mol, 16-Heptadecyne-1,2,4-triol -5.476 kcal/mol, 3,4,5-trihydroxycyclohex-1-ene-1-carboxylic acid -5,360 kcal/mol, Trigonelline -4.905 kcal/mol, Hexitol -4.552 kcal/mol, a-Glucoheptitol - 4.403 kcal/mol. All the test ligands bind the NS5B active site with hydrogen bonds. Furthermore, the ligandreceptor complex has a dissociation constant value and hydrogen bond length. The use of pharmacoactive polymeric devices has experienced significant growth in recent years due to their ability to increase the efficacy of treatment and acceptance by the body. Among the natural active principles, those recovered from waste from other industries stand out. In addition to participating in the circular economy, some of these by-products have very interesting properties to be used in biomedicine. However, the challenge in this field is to introduce these active principles into polymers in the most efficient and least polluting way possible. In this sense, one of the techniques with the greatest impact is the use of supercritical fluids. In this work, the supercritical impregnation of two biomedical polymers was studied comparatively: polylactic acid (PLA) and thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU). The impregnated active ingredient was Mangifera indica leaf extract (MLE), which has demonstrated antioxidant, antimicrobial, and anti-inflammatory capacities, and proangiogenic, antiproliferative, and anti-apoptotic effects on colony-forming endothelial cells. The results obtained expose the potential of the polymers studied in the field of biomedicine due to the acquired bioactivity of both polymers after the process, which was verified by measuring the antioxidant capacity. Better loads have been obtained in TPU compared to PLA. Both polymers exhibit diffusion-based release kinetics, in which a rapid release is observed in the early moments followed by a much slower release. However, PLA seems to release a greater proportion of its impregnated extract than TPU in less time, which is interesting to determine the different applications that each polymer can have. Background and Aim: To develop an environmentally friendly alternative to mosquito larvicides for vegetables, leaf extracts of Mangifera laurina, Mangifera casturi, Mangifera indica, Mangifera odorata, Mangifera caesia, and Mangifera foetida were prepared. This study aimed to determine the biological efficacy of several Mangifera leaf extracts on the mortality of Aedes aegypti mosquito and the inhibition of egg hatching. Materials and Methods: Extraction was performed in an organic solvent (methanol) using a Soxhlet extractor. The larvicidal potential of six leaves of Mangifera essential oil was evaluated against the third instar larvae of A. aegypti at concentrations of 1500, 2000, 3000, and 5000 ppm using the World Health Organization protocol. After Probit analysis, the 48 h LC50 and LC90 values of the essential oils were determined. The inhibitory effect on egg hatching was also tested at 160, 320, 480, and 640 ppm. Results: The extraction of essential oils from several Mangifera species had excellent larvicidal activity and inhibitory activity against A. aegypti egg hatching. The LC50/LC90 values were: M. casturi, 241/1964 ppm; M. laurina, 2739/4035 ppm; and M. caesia, 1831/2618 ppm. The inhibitory effect on hatching was 78% for M. foetida, 70% for M. caesia, and 59% for M. casturi. Conclusion: The test results indicate the potential of some Mangifera species for use as larvicides and inhibitors of egg hatching; thus, they have the potential to control A. aegypti in the early stages of development.

The 11 β- hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase 1 (11 β-HSD1) is hypothesized to play a role in the pathogenesis of type 2 diabetes and its related complications. Because high glucocorticoid levels are a risk factor for metabolic disorders, 11β-HSD1 might be a viable therapeutic target. In this investigation, docking experiments were performed on the main constituents of Spondias mangifera (SM) oleanolic acid, β-amyrin, and β-sitosterol to ascertain their affinity and binding interaction in the human 11β-hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase-1 enzyme's active region. The results of in vitro 11β HSD1 inhibitory assay demonstrated that the extract of S. mangifera had a significant (p < 0.05) decrease in the 11-HSD1% inhibition (63.97%) in comparison to STZ (31.79%). Additionally, a non-insulin-dependent diabetic mice model was used to examine the sub-acute anti-hyperlipidemic and anti-diabetic effects of SM fruits. Results revealed that, in comparison to the diabetic control group, SM fruit extract (SMFE) extract at doses of 200 and 400 mg/kg body weight considerably (p < 0.05 and p < 0.01) lowered blood glucose levels at 21 and 28 days, as well as significantly decreased total cholesterol (TC) and triglycerides (TG) and enhanced the levels of high-density lipoprotein (HDL). After 120 and 180 s of receiving 200 and 400 mg/kg SMFE, respectively, disease control mice showed significantly poorer blood glucose tolerance (p < 0.05 and p < 0.01). SMFE extract 200 (p < 0.05), SMFE extract 400 (p < 0.01), and Glibenclamide at a dosage of 5 mg/kg body weight all resulted in statistically significant weight increase (p < 0.01) when compared to the diabetic control group after 28 days of treatment. Photo-microbes are well known to demolish rice and fruits, as farmers use chemical pesticides to overcome agricultural problems and economic damage. The use of pesticides in agriculture fails to protect crops in lower concentrations and increases the intake of chemicals that cause many human ailments. The sophisticated nanotechnology approach used in agriculture for antimicrobial activities offers several advantages for growth and improves nutrient absorption in plants. We report the green synthesis of silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) using Azadirachta indica (A. indica) and Mangifera indica (M. indica) tree leaf extract that contains antioxidants to treat numerous diseases. AgNPs tested against three plant pathogens, fungi Alternaria alternata (A. alternata), Sclerotium rolfsii (A. rolfsii), and bacteria Xanthomonas oryzae (X. oryzae), which leads to agricultural problems. The experiment was performed with different concentrations of AgNPs in μL/mL prepared using two other plants extract against fungi and bacteria during summer. The results expose the importance of plant extract in synthesizing silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) and their efficacy for microbes. A comparison among different concentrations of AgNPs (4 μL/mL, 6 μL/mL, and 10 μL/mL) was performed for two fungi (tomato disease) and bacteria (rice leaf blight disease). A-AgNPs (A. indica-AgNPs) demonstrate a greater zone of inhibition than M-AgNPs (M. indica-AgNPs), further highlighting the dependence of plants. Under in vitro conditions, the results of the antifungal activity showed zones of inhibition of 21 mm against A. alternata and 17 mm against A. rolfsii, while antibacterial activity against X. oryzae bacteria showed a 15 mm zone of inhibition at 10 mg/mL for A-AgNPs, and less for M-AgNPs. For AgNPs, the antifungal activity was characterized bya more significant area of inhibition than antibacterial activity was. The current study indicates that AgNPs with lower concentrations exhibitsuperior toxicity to microbes and may be able to manage diseases in rice and tomato, and increase plant growth. The copper quantum dots (Cu QDs) are successfully green synthesized from copper sulfate (CuSO 4) as precursor material using plant leaf extracts of Mangifera indica. The mangiferin as a natural glucosylxanthone present in leaf extract of M. indica acquires antioxidant, antimicrobial, antidiabetic, antiallergic, anticancer, hypocholesterolemic, and immunomodulatory activity, which acts as an effective stabilizing and reducing agent for conversion of the copper ion (Cu 2 +) into the Cu QDs in aqueous medium. The green synthesized Cu QDs are characterized using ultraviolet–visible (UV–Vis) spectroscopy, Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy, fluorescence spectroscopy, dynamic light scattering instrumental techniques, which confirm the successful synthesis and photoluminescence (PL) behavior of the Cu QDs. The ultrasonic investigation was carried out to find out the variation of ultrasonic velocity and density with concentration of Cu QDs in aqueous leaf extracts of M. indica plant as well as to calculate the dependency of acoustical parameter, namely adiabatic compressibility, acoustic impedance, and intermolecular free length on concentrations. Mangifera kemanga Blume is a wild relative of mango (Mangifera indica) and a local fruit with various potential uses. The community uses its fruit and leaves for food and its wood as a building material. However, the genetic diversity and taxonomic status of M. kemanga species still need more exploration and have a dispute with M. caesia Jack. The presented study aimed to determine the taxonomic status of M. kemanga and its relationship with M. caesia through a molecular approach and to recognize the species' delimitation. The recorded data analysis used the trnL-trnF intergenic spacer sequence. Carrying out DNA isolation employed the Geneaid Genomic DNA Mini Kit (Plant) protocol, with the DNA sequences analyzed for kinship using Maximum Parsimony and Neighbor-Joining methods and genetic diversity analysis performed using DnaSP 6. A total of 27 trnL-trnF intergenic spacer sequence identification and authentication resulted from BLAST on NCBI as sequences derived from the genus Mangifera. The phylogenetic tree revealed that the accessions of M. kemanga and M. caesia are very similar, hence, considered not as independent species. Thus, based on the trnL-trnF intergenic spacer sequences, M. kemanga is a synonym of M. caesia with taxonomic status as a variety of M. caesia. This molecular-based taxonomic evidence is significant for determining the valid species status of M. kemanga so that it can provide basic information for further studies on biodiversity and germplasm conservation. Water-insoluble exopolysaccharides (I-EPS) are a virulence factor for dental biofilms. It has already been demonstrated that mango pulp induces the secretion of glucan-hydrolytic enzymes in the fungus Trichoderma harzianum, and that they have an effect on I-EPS from young biofilms. Aim: Evaluate the effect of mango peel as an enzyme inducer in T. harzianum, and the effect of enzymes secreted on mature biofilms. Methods: Fractions of the peel (PL) and ethanol-precipitated pulp (PP) of Tommy Atkins mangoes were sterilized and added to a culture medium containing T. harzianum for induction of hydrolytic enzymes. After 192 h, the culture medium was centrifuged and the supernatant (enzyme extract) was used as treatment on S. mutans biofilms (n=9): a) NaCl 0.9 %; b) 0.12 % chlorhexidine digluconate; and c) extract of enzymes induced by PL or PP. Acidogenicity, bacterial viability, quantification of insoluble polysaccharides, and three-dimensional analysis of the biofilm by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) was performed. Data were analyzed by ANOVA followed by the Tukey test (α=5 %). Results: The hydrolytic enzymes did not alter the metabolism or bacterial viability of the biofilm (p<0.05). Although the images obtained by SEM suggest some degree of matrix degradation, the quantification of I-EPS for the PL and PP groups did not differ from the control group (p>0.05), suggesting a slight effect on the disorganization of the mature S. mutans biofilm. Conclusion: The results suggest that mango peel fraction can induce secretion of mutanase by T. harzianum, however in an insufficient amount to generate significant degradation on cariogenic biofilm. Mangifera plants are tropical fruits that have high economic value and scientific utility. However, the chloroplast genome characteristics and phylogenetic relationships among Mangifera species remain unclear. In this work, we reconstructed maximum likelihood (ML) and Bayesian inference (BI) phylogenetic trees using 11 newly sequenced chloroplast genomes as well as six existing genomes obtained from the National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI) database. The chloroplast genomes all had a typical quadripartite structure, with lengths ranging from 157,368 to 158,942 bp. The GC-content in the genomes ranged from 37.8% to 37.9%. We found conserved boundaries comprised of two inverted repeats (IRs), large single-copy (LSC) regions, and small single-copy (SSC) regions. Nucleotide polymorphism analysis revealed three hypervariable regions (ycf4-cemA, rps18-rpl20, and rpl32-ndhF) in the LSC and SSC regions, which could potentially be used as DNA barcodes for Mangifera species. According to our phylogenetic analysis, Mangifera plants were clustered into three clades. Among them, all five samples of M. indica formed a monophyletic group in Clade Ⅰ. Clade Ⅱ included seven Mangifera species and could be further divided into five subclades with 100% branch support values. Clade Ⅲ included two M. persiciforma samples that formed a monophyletic group. In this project, we employed ethanolic (EMI) and aqueous (AMI) extracts of mango (Mangifera indica L., Anacardiaceae) fruit seeds as a modulator of antibiotic resistance against multidrug-resistant (MDR) Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Acinetobacter baumannii to evaluate natural compounds isolated from by-products or waste of edible plants. We also investigated the effect of these extracts alone and in combination with standard classes of antibiotics in the desired strains. M. indica seeds were processed and exploited using ethanol and water. The minimum inhibitory concentrations (MICs) of clinical isolates were examined against EMI and AMI extracts, followed by seven antibiotics of ceftazidime, ciprofloxacin, penicillin, amikacin, meropenem, ampicillin, and colistin. The checkerboard method evaluated the synergistic action between mango kernel extract (EMI) and seven antibiotics. EMI extract significantly revealed antimicrobial properties against MDR A. baumannii and P. aeruginosa with synergistic effects with the applied antibiotics. The considerable antibacterial efficacy of ethanolic extract of M. indica seeds can have great curative value as antibacterial drugs against infections caused by MDR P.aeruginosa and A. baumannii. Abstract Background Among the Mangifera species, mango (Mangifera indica) is an important commercial fruit crop. However, very few studies have been conducted on the Mangifera mitochondrial genome. This study reports and compares the newly sequenced mitochondrial genomes of three Mangifera species. Results Mangifera mitochondrial genomes showed partial similarities in the overall size, genomic structure, and gene content. Specifically, the genomes are circular and contain about 63–69 predicted functional genes, including five ribosomal RNA (rRNA) genes and 24–27 transfer RNA (tRNA) genes. The GC contents of the Mangifera mitochondrial genomes are similar, ranging from 44.42–44.66%. Leucine (Leu) and serine (Ser) are the most frequently used, while tryptophan (Trp) and cysteine (Cys) are the least used amino acids among the protein-coding genes in Mangifera mitochondrial genomes. We also identified 7–10 large chloroplast genomic fragments in the mitochondrial genome, ranging from 1407 to 6142 bp. Additionally, four intact mitochondrial tRNAs genes (tRNA-Cys, tRNA-Trp, tRNA-Pro, and tRNA-Met) and intergenic spacer regions were identified. Phylogenetic analysis based on the common protein-coding genes of most branches provided a high support value. Conclusions We sequenced and compared the mitochondrial genomes of three Mangifera species. The results showed that the gene content and the codon usage pattern of Mangifera mitochondrial genomes is similar across various species. Gene transfer from the chloroplast genome to the mitochondrial genome were identified. This study provides valuable information for evolutionary and molecular studies of Mangifera and a basis for further studies on genomic breeding of mango.

This study estimated seasonal variations among several parameters of the fine roots and N dynamics in Mangifera indica‐based agroforestry systems; we examined homegarden (HG), agri‐horticulture (AH) and agri‐horti‐silviculture (AHS) systems in the Bhabhar area of the Indian Central Himalayan region. Fine roots biomass (FRB) and fine roots production (FRP) of M. indica were highest in the AH system and lowest in the HG system while fine roots turnover (FRT) showed a reverse trend. FRB, FRP and FRT rates decreased with soil depth and distance from the tree base, with larger variations in the AH system. The biomass: necromass ratio varied between 1.91 and 2.42 for HG, between 2.27 and 3.29 for AH and between 2.09 and 2.46 for AHS systems. Among all the selected agroforestry systems, concentrations of mineral N (NH4‐N and NO3‐N) were higher in the AH system and lower in the AHS system while net N mineralization rates were higher in the AHS system. In HGs, FRB it was significantly correlated with ammonification, nitrification and N mineralization while in the AH system it was positively correlated with nitrification and N mineralization. In the AHS system, it was positively correlated with ammonification only. Thus, it can be concluded that in agroforestry systems FRB was enhanced by rapid N mineralization. The variability in FRB and N mineralization between selected agroforestry systems were possibly due to the differences in soil characteristics and management practices. Excessive utilization of chemical fertilizers in mango orchards not only hampers the attainment of sustainable harvests but also poses significant ecological detriments. This investigation proposes a promising solution by advocating the judicious replacement of chemical fertilizers with organic fertilizer (OF) and slow-release fertilizer (SRF), with potential to bolster soil health and augment crop productivity. In light of the promise held by these alternatives, it is imperative to establish detailed fertilization protocols for enhanced sustainable practices in mango farming. This two-year field study employed a comprehensive suite of seven fertilization strategies, unveiling that a 25 % chemical fertilizers substitution with OF and SRF improved mango yields by 12.5 % and 11.3 %, respectively, over standard practices. Additionally, these approaches substantially augmented the nutritional quality of mangoes, evident from Vitamin C enhancements of 53.9 % to 56.9 %, and improvements in sugar-to-acid ratio (19.2 %-30.3 %) and solid-to-acid ratio (12.1 %-25.3 %). Notably, the application of OF and SRF led to increased leaf nitrogen and phosphorus concentrations, while simultaneously reducing soil phosphorus and potassium levels. Furthermore, these fertilizers fostered the growth of beneficial soil microorganisms, namely Actinobacteria and Proteobacteria, and strengthened the synergy within the soil bacterial community, hence optimizing bacterial competition and nutrient cycling. The study proposes that the adoption of OF or SRF can effectively regulate soil nutrient balance, promote resilient and functional soil bacterial ecosystems, and ultimately improve mango yield and fruit quality. Mango, often regarded as the "king of fruits," holds a significant position in Bangladesh's agricultural landscape due to its popularity among the general population. However, identifying different types of mangoes, especially from mango leaves, poses a challenge for most people. While some studies have focused on mango type identification using fruit images, limited work has been done on classifying mango types based on leaf images. Early identification of mango types through leaf analysis is crucial for taking proactive steps in the cultivation process. This research introduces a novel multi-layer perceptron model called WaveVisionNet, designed to address this challenge using mango leaf datasets collected from five regions in Bangladesh. The MangoFolioBD dataset, comprising 16,646 annotated high-resolution images of mango leaves, has been curated and augmented to enhance robustness in real-world conditions. To validate the model, WaveVisionNet is evaluated on both the publicly available dataset and the MangoFolioBD dataset, achieving accuracy rates of 96.11% and 95.21%, respectively, outperforming state-of-the-art models such as Vision Transformer and transfer learning models. The model effectively combines the strengths of lightweight Convolutional Neural Networks and noise-resistant techniques, allowing for accurate analysis of mango leaf images while minimizing the impact of noise and environmental factors. Background: An innovative version of the sterile insect technique (SIT) for pest control, called boosted SIT, relies on the use of sterile males coated with a biocide to control a target wild pest population of the same species. The objective of the present study was to assess the relevance of such technology to control the fruit fly Bactrocera dorsalis and fruit losses in mango orchards using. An agent-based simulation model named BOOSTIT was used to explore the reduction of fruit losses thank to sterile male fruit flies control and economic benefits according to different strategies of sterile male release. The simulation considered a landscape of 30.25 ha made up of four mango orchards., Results: The SIT and the boosted SIT reduced fruit losses when releases were made before the mango fruiting period. According to model simulations, releases should be performed at least seven times at 2-week intervals and with a sterile/wild male ratio of at least 10:1. Considering the benefit/cost ratio (BCR), few releases should be done with a late start date. The BCR showed economic gains from the two control methods, the number of saved fruits and BCR being higher for SIT., Conclusion: Our simulations showed that SIT would have better results than the boosted SIT to contribute to an effective control of Bactrocera dorsalis at the scale of a small landscape. Oily skin is one of the most common issue in the cosmetic field and concern both teenagers and adults from all ethnicities. Unfortunately, the current irritating treatments lead to skin dryness, sebaceous gland atrophy and impact the skin barrier integrity. The aim of this study was to evaluate Mangifera indica extract as a new way to solve oily condition for Caucasian, African and Asian skins. Mangifera indica significantly reduced the production of lipids on various ethnicities on human sebocytes derived from iPS. Transcriptomic analysis on all ethnicities of several genes involved in sebum production has demonstrated that Mangifera indica significantly regulated lipogenesis on iPS-derived-human sebocytes. Ex vivo studies confirmed that Mangifera indica played on lipogenesis inhibition without impacting integrity of sebaceous glands. Finally, we confirmed at the clinical level a significant reduction of sebum production on Caucasian, Asian and African skins. Our results showed that Mangifera indica is an inclusive seboregulator, efficient on the three major ethnicities through an innovative mode of action controlling lipogenesis without impacting sebaceous gland morphology. Considering that sebum overproduction is related to acne concern, our results support a role for Mangifera indica in the therapeutic strategy for prevention and treatment of acne. Kemang (Mangifera kemanga Blume.) is a local fruit and has become the identity flora of Bogor Regency based on Decree of the Regent's Number 522/185/Kpts/1996. Currently, the existence of kemang is rare, and it is worried about becoming extinct. This study aimed to identify the ethnobotany of kemang in the community of Bogor Regency and to develop a conservation strategy for kemang as the identity flora of Bogor Regency. The research was carried out from April-July 2021 in Kemang District, Sukaraja District, and Leuwiliang District. Based on criteria, the research was conducted through deeply personal interviews with the local community. The characteristic of the respondent was individual who has kemang and gardeners whose gardens contain kemang. The data obtained were analyzed descriptively. Based on interviews with 30 respondents, kemang was identified by looking at leaf color, leaf shape, stem, flower, and fruit compared to mango (Mangifera indica). Kemang mainly was found growing in gardens (74%). Kemang propagation was done by seed. The most used parts were fruit (43%) and shoots (39%). Both parts were consumed directly in a fresh form. Besides having a role as a food ingredient, kemang has potential as an antioxidant, anticancer, and antidegenerative. The reason people still maintain kemang because the existence of kemang is getting rare, and the selling price of kemang fruit is relatively high compared to other types of mango. In addition, kemang can also prevent soil erosion. The conservation strategies of kemang are optimizing the socialization and publication of kemang benefit, developing kemang cultivation, and developing kemang as a local fruit commodity. Background and Aim: To develop an environmentally friendly alternative to mosquito larvicides for vegetables, leaf extracts of Mangifera laurina, Mangifera casturi, Mangifera indica, Mangifera odorata, Mangifera caesia, and Mangifera foetida were prepared. This study aimed to determine the biological efficacy of several Mangifera leaf extracts on the mortality of Aedes aegypti mosquito and the inhibition of egg hatching. Materials and Methods: Extraction was performed in an organic solvent (methanol) using a Soxhlet extractor. The larvicidal potential of six leaves of Mangifera essential oil was evaluated against the third instar larvae of A. aegypti at concentrations of 1500, 2000, 3000, and 5000 ppm using the World Health Organization protocol. After Probit analysis, the 48 h LC50 and LC90 values of the essential oils were determined. The inhibitory effect on egg hatching was also tested at 160, 320, 480, and 640 ppm. Results: The extraction of essential oils from several Mangifera species had excellent larvicidal activity and inhibitory activity against A. aegypti egg hatching. The LC50/LC90 values were: M. casturi, 241/1964 ppm; M. laurina, 2739/4035 ppm; and M. caesia, 1831/2618 ppm. The inhibitory effect on hatching was 78% for M. foetida, 70% for M. caesia, and 59% for M. casturi. Conclusion: The test results indicate the potential of some Mangifera species for use as larvicides and inhibitors of egg hatching; thus, they have the potential to control A. aegypti in the early stages of development. The ethanolic extracts of Spondias mangifera fruit (SMFE) were evaluated for aphrodisiac activity. The in-vitro phosphodiesterase-5 (PDE-5) inhibition was assessed based on in-silico molecular docking and simulation studies. In addition, the in-vivo sexual behavior was analyzed in the form of mount (MF, ML), intromission (IF, IL), and ejaculation (EF, EL) frequencies and latencies to validate the in-vitro results. Some biochemical parameters, including PDE-5, nitric oxide, and testosterone, were also observed. The above extract constituted β-amyrin, β-sitosterol, and oleanolic acid and showed tremendous binding with phosphodiesterase-5 and sildenafil. Both the sildenafil and ethanolic extracts (200 and 400 mg/kg/d bodyweight) significantly (p < 0.1, p < 0.05) increased MF, IF, and EF, respectively. In contrast, ML and IL significantly (p < 0.1) decreased, and EL significantly (p < 0.1) increased compared with a normal group of animals. The ethanolic extracts (200 and 400 mg/kg/d bodyweight) and sildenafil further significantly (p < 0.05, p < 0.1) diminished PDE-5 activity significantly (p < 0.05, p < 0.1) and enhanced nitric oxide and testosterone levels, as compared with normal rodents. BackgroundLittle is known about the impact of mango consumption on metabolic pathways assessed by changes in gene expression.MethodsIn this single-arm clinical trial, cardiometabolic outcomes and gene expression levels in whole blood samples from 26 men and women were examined at baseline and after 8 weeks of mango consumption and differential gene expression changes were determined. Based on changes in gene expression profiles, partial least squares discriminant analysis followed by hierarchical clustering were used to classify participants into subgroups of response and differences in gene expression changes and in cardiometabolic clinical outcomes following the intervention were tested.ResultsTwo subgroups of participants were separated based on the resemblance of gene expression profiles in response to the intervention and as responders (n = 8) and non-responders (n = 18). A total of 280 transcripts were significantly up-regulated and 603 transcripts down-regulated following the intervention in responders, as compared to non-responders. Several metabolic pathways, mainly related to oxygen and carbon dioxide transport as well as oxidative stress, were found to be significantly enriched with differentially expressed genes. In addition, significantly beneficial changes in hip and waist circumference, c-reactive protein, HOMA-IR and QUICKI indices were observed in responders vs. non-responders, following the intervention.ConclusionThe impact of mango consumption on cardiometabolic health appears to largely rely on interindividual variability. Mangifera sumatrana Miq. is an endemic species from Sumatra. The taxonomic status of M. sumatrana remains unclear and is currently treated as a synonym of M. laurina. The present study employed morphological and palynological characters and molecular analyses to address the delimitation between the two species. Pollen observations were carried out with a Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM). Phylogenetic relationships were investigated using the ITS and the trnl-F intergenic spacer markers. M. sumatrana differs from M. laurina by having pyramidal panicles with a low density of pale yellow flowers pale, sepals 3–3.5 × 1.7–2 mm, fruit roundish to flattened with pale yellow pulp, a rough fibre texture, and pollen with a prolate spheroidal shape. The MP phylogenetic tree showed a divergent boundary between the two species suggesting that M. sumatrana could be an independent species, not a variety of M. laurina. Background: Hydrocolloids are ingredients used to improve the technological properties of products; currently, there is a growing demand from the food industry and consumers to use natural ingredients and reduce the environmental impact. Methods: This work evaluated the effect of pH on hydrocolloid extraction from the pulp, seed, and peel of mango (Mangifera indica) var. hilaza and their chemical, physicochemical, techno-functional, and structural properties. Results: The main component of the hydrocolloid was the carbohydrates for pulp (22.59%) and peel (24.05%), and the protein for seed (21.48%) was corroborated by NIR spectra and associated with the technological and functional properties. The solubility increases with the temperature presenting values higher than 75% at 80 °C; the swelling index was higher than 30%, while the water holding capacity was higher in samples with higher carbohydrate content (110–121%). Moreover, a higher content of total phenolic compounds (21.61 ± 0.39–51.77 ± 2.48 mg GAE/g) and antioxidant activity (≥193.82 μ Mol   Trolox / g ) was obtained. The pH of extraction changes the color parameters and microstructural properties. Conclusions: Novel ingredients from mango pulp, seed, and peel at different pH levels have technological and functional properties that are potential use in the food industry as an alternative to the development of microstructural products. The use of plastic straws (straw) has become a habit under the pretext of being a way of caring for health in the face of the lack of hygiene of the containers that serve food (drinks, juices, etc.), accentuated even more as a way to avoid contagion of diseases such as COVID 19; This has resulted in the generation of abundant solid plastic waste that has a negative impact on the contamination of soil and water. Faced with this problem, the objective was to produce sorbets with biodegradability characteristics from Mangifera indica and Vitis vinifera shell biomass, taking advantage of their rich content of starch and cellulose. The production method consisted of testing various doses of shell biomass of the aforementioned species, analysing their physical and mechanical characteristics, as well as biodegradability, to corroborate it later with a survey of the level of satisfaction of the elaborated product that obtained the best properties. The results indicated that the Mangifera indica shells had higher starch content compared to the Vitis vinifera shells; On the contrary, regarding the cellulose content, the Vitis vinifera husks had a higher quantity, resulting in a harder and more resistant bioplastic. Finally, it is concluded that biodegradable straws from biomass of Mangifera indica and Vitis vinifera are a significant solution compared to conventional ones, with the important advantage of being biodegradable in a short time and their characteristics are similar to plastic straws, to the time they turned out to have a good level of acceptance by the respondents. Objective: To determine the lead bioactive compound in kernel extract of Mangifera pajang and its anti-cancer activity against human breast cancer cell lines with positive estrogen receptor (MCF-7). Methods: The methanolic extract of dried powder kernel of Mangifera pajang was exposed to column chromatography for isolation. The structural elucidation of the isolated compound was characterized using infrared, nuclear magnetic resonance, mass spectrometry. Furthermore, cytotoxicity, morphological changes, flow cytometry and cell cycle arrest analyses were performed to examine the mechanism of anti-proliferation and apoptosis induced by methyl gallate against MCF-7. Results: One compound was isolated from the methanolic extract of Mangifera pajang kernel and identified as methyl gallate. The flow cytometric results demonstrated induction of apoptosis in MCF-7 cells by three concentrations of methyl gallate. The cell cycle arrest showed a significant (P<0.05) decrease in cell progression at G2/M phase of MCF-7 after treatment with 100 µM of methyl gallate. The cell percentage of early and late apoptosis was significant at 10 and 100 µM of methyl gallate. Also, methyl gallate treatment induced up-regulation of reactive oxygen species levels in MCF-7 cells with a reduction in superoxide dismutase levels. Conclusions: These findings indicate that isolated methyl gallate from Mangifera pajang kernel extracts induces growth inhibition and apoptosis in MCF-7 cells via up-regulating oxidative stress pathway. Background: Among the Mangifera species, mango (Mangifera indica) is an important commercial fruit crop. However, very few studies have been conducted on the Mangifera mitochondrial genome. This study reports and compares the newly sequenced mitochondrial genomes of three Mangifera species. Results: Mangifera mitochondrial genomes showed partial similarities in the overall size, genomic structure, and gene content. Specifically, the genomes are circular and contain about 63–69 predicted functional genes, including five ribosomal RNA (rRNA) genes and 24–27 transfer RNA (tRNA) genes. The GC contents of the Mangifera mitochondrial genomes are similar, ranging from 44.42–44.66%. Leucine (Leu) and serine (Ser) are the most frequently used, while tryptophan (Trp) and cysteine (Cys) are the least used amino acids among the protein-coding genes in Mangifera mitochondrial genomes. We also identified 7–10 large chloroplast genomic fragments in the mitochondrial genome, ranging from 1407 to 6142 bp. Additionally, four intact mitochondrial tRNAs genes (tRNA-Cys, tRNA-Trp, tRNA-Pro, and tRNA-Met) and intergenic spacer regions were identified. Phylogenetic analysis based on the common protein-coding genes of most branches provided a high support value. Conclusions: We sequenced and compared the mitochondrial genomes of three Mangifera species. The results showed that the gene content and the codon usage pattern of Mangifera mitochondrial genomes is similar across various species. Gene transfer from the chloroplast genome to the mitochondrial genome were identified. Spondias mangifera is a drupaceous fruit popular for its flavour and health advantages. There is little scientific knowledge about S. mangifera, despite its widespread usage in traditional medicine, in the North-Eastern region of India. Inhibiting the key carbohydrate hydrolysing enzymes is one of the strategies for managing diabetes. Therefore, this study studied the antioxidant and anti-diabetic properties of different fraction S. mangifera fruit extract (SMFFs) from Indian geographical origin by in vitro experimental assays and silico docking simulation studies. The ADMET prediction for active substances was also investigated using the AdmetSAR database. Based on the binding affinity/molecular interactions between phytocompounds and target enzymes, in silico investigations were done to confirm the in vitro enzymatic inhibitory capability. β-sitosterol in EtOH-F was analysed using RP-HPLC with RP-C18 column as stationary phase and photo diode array detector. The percentage of β-sitosterol was found to be 1.21% ± 0.17% of total weight of extract (w/w). S. mangifera fruit ethanolic extract had a significant inhibitory concentration of 50% against free radicals produced by ABTS (89.71 ± 2.73%) and lipid peroxidation assay (88.26 ± 2.17%) tests. Similarly, the in vitro antidiabetic test findings indicated that S. mangifera inhibited alpha-amylase (73.42 ± 2.01%) and alpha-glucosidase (79.23 ± 1.98%) enzymes dose-dependently. The maximum glycosylated Hb percentage inhibitory activity shown in the ethanolic fraction was (83.97 ± 2.88%) at 500 µg/mL. The glucose uptake of the ethanolic fraction by the yeast cell showed significant (p < 0.05) at 500 µg/mL when compared with metformin (91.37 ± 1.59%), whereas the other fraction did not show the uptake of glucose by the yeast cell at the same concentration. In the docking study, the main phytoconstituents of S. mangifera fruit, such as oleanolic acid, beta-sitosterol, and beta amyrin, show strong affinity for pancreatic α-amylase. These results imply that S. mangifera has α-amylase and α-glucosidase inhibitory properties and may be used as antidiabetic with antioxidant characteristics. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Mangifera indica fruit (mango) is one of the most commercialized fruits around the world occupying the 2nd position as a tropical crop, due to the great variety of existing cultivars from which different food products such as drinks, juices, concentrates, and jams are prepared. The wastes generated during the processing of this fruit (20 million tons), which represent up to 60% of the weight of the fruit and consist mainly of peels (12%) and kernels seeds (20%), cause a series of environmental and economic problems for entrepreneurs in the sector. This is because there are no clear policies for its disposal and reuse. Nevertheless, the development of biotechnological tools has led to these wastes becoming subject of interest for their use in multiple industries such as food and pharmaceuticals, since it has been shown that they can be used as raw material to obtain phenolic compounds with biological activities (antioxidant, antimicrobial, anticancer, etc.). This review compiles the most relevant works from 2016 to 2021 about extraction, quantification, identification, biological activities, and applications of phenolic compounds obtained from the mango tree, with special focus on the fruit, with the objective to promote the use of mango from a sustainable perspective, and with a biorefinery approach. Wild edible fruits provide most of the nutrition and serve as a source of income for rural communities. This study aims to investigate the importance of wild edible fruit and the local conservation effort of the rural people in the East Aceh region, Indonesia. This study was carried out in eight villages of the Serbajadi sub-district. A semi-structured survey questionnaire with a free list approach was conducted involving 180 people (20 individuals from each of the villages), which were selected through simple random sampling. The components of the edible fruits were analyzed for their moisture, ash, fat, protein, carbohydrate, crude fiber, vitamin C, and minerals (Ca, P, Mg, Fe, K, and Na). In the investigation area, 46 wild edible fruit plants were found, representing 32 genera and 24 families. Mangifera odorata, Mangifera foetida, Durio oxleyanus, Pomea pinnata, Sandoricum koetjape, Baccaurea polyneura, Durio lowianus, Bischofia javanica, Artocarpus integer, Baccaurea brevipes, Flacuortia rukam, Mangifera caesia, Syzygium cumini, Baccaurea macrocarpa, and Garcinia xanthochymus were the most preferred respondents, which have economic value.
