Purpose: To evaluate and compare patient satisfaction levels in edentulous patients treated with different configurations of implant-supported prostheses as well as previous prosthesis experiences before implant treatment. Materials and Methods: A study population of 142 patients was identified and separated into four treatment groups: group 1 comprised 43 patients treated with an implant-supported overdenture in the mandible and conventional complete denture in the maxilla; group 2 comprised 32 patients treated with implant-supported overdentures in the maxilla and mandible; group 3 comprised 26 patients treated with an implant-supported overdenture in the mandible and a fixed prosthesis in the maxilla; and group 4 comprised 41 patients treated with implant-supported maxillomandibular fixed restorations. Questionnaires asking about masticatory performance, pronunciation, comfort, and social ability were used to evaluate treatment outcomes. Results: The patients in group 4 were significantly more satisfied regarding masticatory performance than other treatment modalities. Visual analog scale (VAS) scores for comfort and social ability were similar in groups 3 and 4 and significantly higher than those in groups 1 and 2. The patients who used a conventional removable prosthesis before implant treatment were more satisfied with their implant-supported prosthesis regarding social ability (P = .03). Conclusions: The treatment design of an implant-supported fixed prosthesis in the maxilla and implant overdenture in the mandible provided a comparable level of satisfaction with maxillomandibular fixed prosthesis for edentulous patients. This combination served as a practical solution especially for patients with mandibular atrophy who would require extensive surgeries to support maxillomandibular fixed prostheses. In the maxilla, patient satisfaction with an implant-supported overdenture was not superior to that with a conventional prosthesis. Purpose: To compare the peri-implant bone loss of mandibular complete-arch implant-supported fixed prostheses (FPSs) supported by three and four implants and to correlate with the size of the horizontal and vertical distal cantilever at prosthesis placement (T1) and after 1 year (T2). Materials and Methods: A total of 72 external hexagon (EH) type implants were placed in 20 participants. Of these, 24 supported an FPS with three implants (G3I) and 48 with four implants (G4I). The mandibular implants were named 1, 2, 3, and 4 according to their location in the arch, in a clockwise direction. Digital periapical radiographs were taken at times T1 and T2 for analysis and measurement of peri-implant bone loss. The horizontal and vertical distal cantilevers were measured with a digital caliper and correlated with peri-implant bone loss. Results: The survival rate of implants in G3I was 91.66%, and in G4I it was 97.91%. The mean bone loss in G3I was 0.88 ± 0.89 mm, and in G4I it was 0.58 ± 0.78 mm (P = .225). There was no correlation between distal horizontal cantilevers and bone loss in the studied groups, with G3I being -0.25 (P = .197) and G4I -0.22 (P = .129). Larger vertical cantilevers of implants 1 (P = .018), 3 (P =.015), and 4 (P = .045) correlated with greater bone loss in G4I. Conclusions: The number of implants in an FPS did not influence peri-implant bone loss after 1 year of follow-up. Bone graft materials are often used in implant treatment to optimize functional and esthetic outcomes. The requirements for bone grafting materials are the ability to maintain space for bone regeneration to occur and the capability of being resorbed by osteoclasts and replaced with new bone tissue occurring in passive chemolysis and bone remodeling. Carbonate apatite (CO3Ap) granules (Cytrans Granules, GC) are a chemically synthetic bone graft material similar to autogenous bone minerals and more biocompatible than allografts and xenografts. The aim of this report is to evaluate the efficacy of CO3Ap granules in implant treatments when used alone or in combination with autogenous bone. The clinical findings and the radiographic and histologic assessments in three cases of immediate implant placement and lateral and vertical guided bone regeneration are reported. Despite the short-term follow-ups, histologic findings showed that CO3Ap granules were efficiently resorbed and replaced bone in clinical use. Furthermore, the clinical findings showed that CO3Ap granules maintained their morphology around the implant. This limited short-term case report suggests that this bone substitute is effective. This assessment evaluated the clinical feasibility of using narrow-diameter implants to support a mandibular overdenture. Twelve patients presenting with an edentulous mandible were recruited from nine dental offices. Each patient received two to four implants in the mandible. The implants were placed without additional bone augmentation, and a total of 36 implants were placed. All sites achieved satisfactory crestal bone stability and soft tissue maintenance 1 year after the final prosthetic restoration. This investigation was supported by the Osseointegration Foundation, working in conjunction with the Zest Anchors implant company. There are three basic valuable activities that emerge from a professional foundation, which were reflected in this case study. They include disseminating information to practitioners, persuading young clinicians to become research investigators, and reaching out to patients in need of treatment who cannot afford it without a charitable opportunity. Guided bone regeneration (GBR) requires a tension-free flap without damaging the collateral circulation in order to secure better surgical outcomes. Topographic knowledge regarding the neurovascular bundles in the posterior aspect of the mandible can prevent complications during lingual flap design. The lingual branch (LB) of the inferior alveolar or maxillary arteries is not sufficiently illustrated or described in the literature. Nevertheless, it has an intimate relationship with the lingual nerve (LN) during ridge augmentation and implant-related posterior mandible surgery. Therefore, this study aimed to clarify the morphology and topography of the LB related to GBR surgeries. In the present human cadaveric study, the LB was analyzed in 12 hemimandibles using latex injection and corrosion casting. Two types of LB were identified based on their origin and course. The LB was found in a common connective tissue sheath close to the LN. The LB assembled several anastomoses on the posterior lingual aspect of the mandible and retromolar area. The anterior mandible is the most challenging anatomical site for performing periodontal plastic surgeries. Increased demands for optimal root coverage and esthetic outcomes contribute to the development of pedicle flap-based surgical solutions, in contrast to the predominantly used free gingival graft. The aims of this study were to (1) summarize the current literature to identify the most-used techniques, indications, and their efficacy, and (2) provide a decision table for surgeons to navigate through the selection of appropriate techniques. Four main approaches were identified: free gingival graft, lateral sliding, tunneling, and coronally advanced flap. The flap approaches are mostly combined with a connective tissue graft. The decision table considers the patient's chief complaint, local anatomical factors, and technique sensitivity. The table provides a framework for supporting an evidence-based selection of surgical techniques and for studying novel methods to achieve predictable root coverage in the anterior mandible. Purpose: To assess whether a recently introduced implant placement micromotor that provides site-specific, operatorindependent cancellous bone density measurements can detect the presence of a cortical bone layer and measure its thickness and density. Materials and Methods: An in vitro experiment was performed on six double-layer polyurethane foam blocks mimicking the jawbone with different cortical thickness/cancellous density combinations. The densities were measured using the micromotor after either removing the cortical layer or leaving it intact, both with and without irrigation. Results: The results were compared by means of nonparametric statistical tests. Independent of irrigation, the micromotor detected the cortical layer when it was left intact and accurately estimated its thickness. The micromotor did not discriminate between blocks when they were considered separately, but it did when they were grouped into four or three classes. Conclusions: The present study suggests that the micromotor may represent a valid device to quantitatively assess bone quality and density. If the micromotor can quantitatively distinguish different cortical/cancellous bone combinations in humans, it may be a helpful tool for performing finely tuned, patient-tailored preparations of the implant seat, making tooth rehabilitation in challenging clinical conditions more predictable. Objective: Ideal implant placement in atrophied posterior mandibular regions is challenging due to surgical difficulties and anatomical limitations. This study aimed to evaluate the use of allogeneic bone rings for vertical augmentation of atrophied posterior mandibular regions with simultaneous implants compared to autogenous bone rings, while avoiding donor site morbidity. Method and materials: A total of 24 vertically atrophied posterior mandibular segments (in 14 patients) were equally randomized into a study group in which mineralized freeze-dried allogeneic bone rings were used, and a control group in which autogenous bone rings with prepared implant osteotomies were harvested from the chin and used. All augmentation sites were prepared before inserting the bone rings. Implants were simultaneously inserted, fixing the bone rings into the native bone. All patients were clinically assessed after 1 week, 2 weeks, and 1 month. Crestal bone level was radiographically assessed after lweek, 6 months, and 3 months of prosthetic loading. Results: None of the 24 bone rings showed signs of implant or graft failure. There was no significant difference in the crestal bone level between the groups. Conclusion: Allogeneic bone rings can be a viable alternative to autogenous bone rings in augmenting the posterior aspect of the mandible, mitigating the concerns associated with donor site complications. Rationale: Oral appliances are second-line treatments after continuous positive airway pressure for obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) management. However, the need for oral appliance titration limits their use as a result of monitoring challenges to assess the treatment effect on OSA. Objectives: To assess the validity of mandibular jaw movement (MJM) automated analysis compared with polysomnography (PSG) and polygraphy (PG) in evaluating the effect of oral appliance treatment and the effectiveness of MJM monitoring for oral appliance titration at home in patients with OSA. Methods: This observational, prospective study included 135 patients with OSA eligible for oral appliance therapy. The primary outcome was the apnea-hypopnea index (AHI), measured through in-laboratory PSG/PG and MJM-based technology. Additionally, MJM monitoring at home was conducted at regular intervals during the titration process. The agreement between PSG/PG and MJM automated analysis was revaluated using Bland-Altman analysis. Changes in AHI during the home-based oral appliance titration process were evaluated using a generalized linear mixed model and a generalized estimating equation model. Results: The automated MJM analysis demonstrated strong agreement with PG in assessing AHI at the end of titration, with a median bias of 0.24/h (limits of agreement, -11.2 to 12.8/h). The improvement of AHI from baseline in response to oral appliance treatment was consistent across three evaluation conditions: in-laboratory PG (-59.6%; 95% confidence interval, -59.8% to -59.5%), in-laboratory automated MJM analysis (-59.2%; -65.2% to -52.2%), and at-home automated MJM analysis (-59.7%; -67.4% to -50.2%). Conclusions: Incorporating MJM automated analysis into the oral appliance titration process has the potential to optimize oral appliance therapy outcomes for OSA.

The purpose of the present study was to describe a novel protocol for a minimally invasive pocket elimination surgery (MI-PES) in the posterior maxilla and mandible, which consists of the combined use of (1) an access flap based on an internally beveled gingivectomy with minimal to no papilla mobilization at the buccal aspect, and (2) a resective procedure with an apically positioned flap on the lingual aspect. The interproximal bone defects were accessed with a single (lingual) flap, and the bone architecture was modified by the adoption of piezoelectric inserts for controlled bone recontouring associated with fiber retention. Mean probing depth (PD) was 5.5 ± 0.8 mm before surgery and 2.7 ± 0.6 mm at the 6-month reevaluation. All treated pockets showed a postsurgical PD < 4 mm. Gingival recession (REC) was 0.3 ± 0.5 mm at baseline and increased to 1.6 ± 0.8 mm at 6 months. When buccal and lingual pockets were analyzed separately, a trend toward a similar PD reduction, less REC increase, and greater clinical attachment level gain was recorded for buccal pockets. These preliminary observations seem to support the use of MI-PES as a valuable option for pocket elimination, at least when residual pockets are associated with a shallow interproximal osseous crater in the posterior maxilla or mandible. Tooth autotransplantation is an effective treatment to replace missing teeth. Digital planning can facilitate successful autotransplantation. Guiding templates are highly recommended when performing cases in healed ridges in the posterior area to reduce excessive bone loss and increase the chances of fitting the donor tooth in the new socket. This case report highlights the use of 3D planning tools and fully guided drilling templates for successful tooth autotransplantation in the posterior area. Two tooth autotransplantations were performed in a 51-year-old patient using mandibular third molars to replace hopeless mandibular first and second molars. Root canal treatments were carried out before the surgeries, and different alveoloplasty techniques were used in each recipient area. The prosthetic phase was carried out after 9 months. Both teeth were asymptomatic, functional, and exhibited no signs of resorption or apical radiolucency and showed complete regeneration of the periodontal apparatus at the 2-year follow-up. Purpose: The objective of the present systematic review and meta-analysis was to assess randomised controlled trials (RCTs) which assessed the efficacy of mini dental implants (MDIs) and standard-diameter implants (SDIs) in retaining mandibular overdentures (MO). Materials and Methods: The focused question was “Is there a difference in the mechanical stability between MDIs and SDIs in retaining MO?” Indexed databases were searched up to and including November 2023 using different keywords. Boolean operators were used during the search. The literature was searched in accordance with the PRISMA guidelines. The PICO characteristics were: patients (P) = individuals with complete mandibular dentures requiring dental implants; Intervention (I) = placement of MDIs under mandibular dentures; Control (C) = placement of SDIs under mandibular dentures; Outcome (O) = comparison of stability between MDIs and SDIs in supporting mandibular dentures. Only RCTs were included. Risk of bias (RoB) was assessed using the Cochrane RoB tool. Results: Five RCTs were included. The numbers of participants ranged between 45 and 120 edentulous individuals wearing complete mandibular dentures. The mean age of patients ranged between 59.5 ± 8.5 and 68.3 ± 8.5 years. The number of MDIs and SDIs ranged between 22 and 152 and 10 and 80 implants, respectively. The follow-up duration ranged between one week and 12 months. Three RCTs reported an improvement in the quality of life (QoL) of all patients after stabilisation of mandibular dentures using MDIs or SDIs. In one RCT, peri-implant soft tissue profiles were comparable between MDIs and SDIs at the 1-year follow-up. The implant survival rate was reported in two RCTs, which were from 89% to 98% and 99% to 100% for MDIs and SDIs, respectively. All RCTs had a low RoB. Recurrent benign gingival lesions occurring in the anterior dentition are clinical dilemmas. While complete removal of such lesions is required to prevent recurrence, this can result in a poor esthetic outcome. Relative to this conundrum, this report discusses the diagnosis, psychologic management, and clinical treatment of two patients with recurring lesions on the facial gingiva of the mandibular and maxillary incisors, respectively. Patient A, a 55-year-old woman, presented with a recurrent peripheral ossifying fibroma (POF); Patient B, a 76-year-old man, presented with a recurrent pyogenic granuloma (PG). Both patients underwent multiple procedures and were ultimately treated without lesion recurrence. The efficacious surgical treatment of recurrent gingival lesions like POF and PG requires an aggressive approach involving lesion removal of the lesion as well as a 1.0- to 2.0-mm margin of normal tissue, underlying alveolar bone, and associated periodontal ligament (PDL). The rationale for this approach stresses the potential periodontal and esthetic ramifications that were considered. In summary, when recurrent benign gingival lesions are localized to the anterior part of the mouth, the approach to their surgical removal should be modified to minimize the extent of gingival recession and other potential esthetic issues. Over the past two decades, the Khoury plate technique has been widely utilized with much success to facilitate bone augmentation in critically deficient bone areas. Simply, the technique includes harvesting autogenous bone plates and utilizing them with external screw fixation. The rigidity of the bone plates enclosing the bony defect on both the buccal and lingual surfaces allows for tension-free bone remodeling to occur, favoring an ideal bone-forming environment. Following, a 4- to 6-month healing period, a flap is raised, screws may be removed, and implants are placed. With advancements made in tissue engineering, a novel mineral-organic resorbable bone adhesive (MORBA) formulated from underwater biomimetic marine proteins has recently been utilized for immediate bone-to-bone or bone-to-metal fixation. MORBA is a synthetic, injectable, self-setting, and resorbable load-bearing adhesive biomaterial that exhibits over 300 pounds of fixation strength. The unique adhesive properties of MORBA enable it to immediately stabilize dental implants into host bone. The present article describes a novel modification of the Khoury plate technique that utilizes MORBA as a substitute for screws during bone plate fixation. A step-by-step protocol is described that utilizes this novel biomaterial, favoring a more biologic approach to this conventional technique. The Custom Alveolar Ridge Splitting (CARS) technique was recently reported as a less-invasive treatment option for augmentation of the maxillary anterior area in cases where alveolar width deficiency exists due to bone resorption and remodeling. This technique creates an intraosseous defect to improve success when horizontal ridge augmentation is attempted. The purpose of the present case report was to demonstrate implant placement in an atrophic posterior mandibular site using the CARS technique. This technique was used in the mandibular right second premolar area, followed by placement of a single implant. Purpose: To compare the standard 360-degree CBCT acquisition protocol to the low dose 180-degree CBCT protocol for implant planning. Materials and Methods: Two groups of patients, each consisting of 35 patients, were included in the study. The first group was imaged with the conventional 360-degree CBCT protocol, and the second group was imaged with the low dose 180-degree CBCT protocol. The primary outcome of this study was the number of scans that needed to be repeated due to poor image quality. In addition, six secondary parameters were evaluated quantitatively and qualitatively. Results: The results showed that there was no need to repeat any of the CBCT scans that were obtained in either group, which showed that 360-degree and 180-degree protocols had comparable image quality. As for the secondary parameters, the results showed that the evaluators were able to evaluate the six chosen parameters in a comparable manner. Conclusions: The 180-degree low dose CBCT scan is a viable option for dental implant treatment planning in the posterior mandible as it provides comparable and adequate information regarding accuracy of measurements, identification of critical structures, evaluation of bone quality, and any pathology. Horizontal and vertical ridge augmentation via the bone shell technique provides predictable outcomes. The external oblique ridge is the most-used donor site for bone plate harvesting, followed by the mandibular symphysis. The lateral sinus wall and the palate have also been described as alternative donor sites. This preliminary case series reports a bone shell technique that used the coronal segment of the knife-edge ridge as a bone shell in five consecutive edentulous patients (20 sites) with severe mandibular horizontal ridge atrophy and adequate ridge height. The follow-up period was 1 to 4 years. The average horizontal bone gains at 1 mm and 5 mm below the newly formed ridge crest were 3.6 ± 0.76 mm and 3.4 ± 0.92 mm, respectively. Ridge volume was sufficiently restored in all patients to enable implant placement in a staged approach. In 2 of the 20 sites, additional hard tissue grafts were required at implant placement. The advantages of utilizing the relocated crestal ridge segment are as follows: The donor and recipient sites are the same, no major anatomical structures are compromised, periosteal releasing incisions and flap advancement are not required for primary wound closure, and the risk of wound dehiscence is minimized due to reduced muscle tension. Purpose: To assess the implant survival rate in mandibles reconstructed with free fibula flap after oral tumor resection after 1 year of prosthetic loading. A secondary objective was to compare immediate or delayed implant placement protocols in this population. Materials and Methods: Electronic and manual searches were performed on different databases for controlled and prospective trials that indicated implant survival rate. This systematic review followed PRISMA guidelines. Risk of bias was evaluated using Cochrane Collaboration tools. Meta-analyses heterogeneity source assessment and GRADE evaluation were performed among studies with identical follow-ups. Results: Among 305 primarily selected articles, 109 were eligible after reading the title and abstract, and 8 were included after full-text reading: 2 randomized controlled trials and 6 prospective studies comprising 140 patients and 507 implants. Meta-analyses estimated an overall survival rate of 97% (95% CI: 94% to 99%) after 1 year of prosthetic loading. The survival rate was 98% (95% CI: 94% to 100%) with immediate implantation and 97% (95% CI: 90% to 99%) with delayed implantation. Only 3 studies reported radiotherapy treatment, with no real impact on implant survival rate. Overall, 69% of tumors were benign. Conclusions: Implant placement in vascularized fibula flaps in the mandible is recommended for patients undergoing segmental mandibular reconstruction after tumor resection. Objectives: Work in animal models has implicated excessive occlusal forces and occlusal trauma as co-destructive factors for periodontitis. The main aim of the present study was to make a radiographic assessment of the effects of excessive occlusal forces, ie occlusal/incisal tooth wear, widening of the periodontal space, and the presence of a mandibular torus, on interproximal marginal bone loss in a large series of patients. A secondary aim was to evaluate the statistical correlation between the parameters in two specific teeth and those of 12 teeth for marginal bone loss and six teeth for occlusal/incisal tooth wear within the same individual. Method and materials: A total of 1,950 full-mouth radiographic surveys were analyzed retrospectively. Interproximal marginal bone loss was quantified relative to the root length (Schei ruler technique). In addition, occlusal/incisal tooth wear and periodontal ligament space widening of the periodontal space were assessed, as well as the presence of a mandibular torus. Odds ratio and logistic regression analysis were used to determine the association between occlusal trauma and marginal bone loss. Results: The correlation of the measured parameters between the values for specific teeth and the whole dentition was evaluated from data from the first 400 radiographs. Teeth 41 and 33 showed the best correlation to the whole dentition: 0.85 for interproximal marginal bone loss, 0.83 for widening of the periodontal space, and 0.97 forocclusal/incisal tooth wear. The results of a logistic regression analysis with age as an independent variable, revealed a significant association between bone loss and both tooth wear (odds ratio = 2.767) and bone loss and widening of the periodontal space (odds ratio = 2.585). Conclusion: Tooth wear was positively correlated to both widening of the periodontal space and marginal bone loss. Dentinogenic ghost cell tumor (DGCT) is an uncommon odontogenic tumor considered to be the solid, tumorous variant of calcifying odontogenic cyst. DGCT is characterized by islands of ameloblastoma-like epithelial cells that resemble the enamel organ, the presence of ghost cells, and dentinoid material. This article reports a rare case of dentinogenic ghost cell tumor as sociated with an odontoma in an adult patient, with a review of the literature. To the best of the authors' knowledge, there have only been four case reports of DGCT associated with odontoma, all of which occurred in children and adults younger than 30 years old. Ontocetus is one of the most notable extinct odobenines owing to its global distribution in the Northern Hemisphere. Originating in the Late Miocene of the western North Pacific, this lineage quickly spread to the Atlantic Ocean during the Pliocene, with notable occurrences in England, Belgium, The Netherlands, Morocco and the eastern seaboard of the United States. Reassessment of a pair of mandibles from the Lower Pleistocene of Norwich (United Kingdom) and a mandible from the Upper Pliocene of Antwerp (Belgium) that were referred to as Ontocetus emmonsi reveals existences of features of both Ontocetus and Odobenus. The presence of four post-canine teeth, a lower canine larger than the cheek-teeth and a lower incisor confirms the assignment to Ontocetus; simultaneously, characteristics such as a fused and short mandibular symphysis, a well-curved mandibular arch and thin septa between teeth align with traits usually found in Odobenus. Based on a combination of these characters, we describe Ontocetus posti, sp. nov. Its mandibular anatomy suggests, a better adaptation to suction-feeding than what was previously described in the genus suggesting that Ontocetus posti sp. nov. likely occupied a similar ecological niche to the extant walrus Odobenus rosmarus. Originating from the North Pacific Ocean, Ontocetus most likely dispersed via the Central American Seaway. Although initially discovered in the Lower Pliocene deposits of the western North Atlantic, Ontocetus also left its imprint in the North Sea basin and Moroccan Plio-Pleistocene deposits. The closure of the Isthmus of Panama during the Mio-Pliocene boundary significantly impacted the contemporary climate, inducing global cooling. This event constrained Ontocetus posti in the North Sea basin leaving the taxon unable to endure the abrupt climate changes of the Early Pleistocene, ultimately going extinct before the arrival of the extant counterpart, Odobenus rosmarus.

INTRODUCTION: The primary objective of this retrospective study was to document the normal variation of clinical mobility of the mandibular symphysis in cats and possible associations with bodyweight, age, sex, sexual status, breed and skull morphology. Secondarily, the radiographic appearance of the mandibular symphysis and possible associations with the analyzed data were evaluated. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Two hundred and sixteen cats of 15 different breeds that underwent maxillofacial, oral and dental procedures from April 2015 to December 2021 were included. Clinical mobility was evaluated under general anesthesia using a 0 to 3 scale in lateromedial (LM) and dorsoventral (DV) directions. The symphysis was radiographically classified on the occlusal radiographic view of the rostral mandibles as fused or open, and with parallel or divergent margins. RESULTS: Bodyweight ranged from 2.2 to 12.5 kg (median 4.0 kg), age from 4 months to 17 years and 4 months (median 6 years and 4 months). At the first evaluation DV symphyseal mobility was 0 in 177 cases (82%), 1 in 32 cases (14.8%) and 2 in 7 cases (3.2%), LM mobility was 0 in 61 cases (28.3%), 1 in 110 cases (50.9%) and 2 in 45 cases (20.8%). 81.1% of the radiographs were included in the statistical analysis. Three symphyses (1.6%) were classified as fused and 190 (98.4%) as open, 129 (68.8%) having divergent margins and 61 (31.6%) parallel. One hundred and forty-eight cases (76.7%) did not show the presence of odontoclastic replacement resorption on the canine teeth (TR subgroup 1), 23 (11.9%) showed stage ≤3 lesions (TR subgroup 2) and 22 (11.4%) stage 4 lesions (TR subgroup 3). The diversity of vertebrate skeletons is often attributed to adaptations to distinct ecological factors such as diet, locomotion, and sensory environment. Although the adaptive evolution of skull, appendicular skeleton, and vertebral column is well studied in vertebrates, comprehensive investigations of all skeletal components simultaneously are rarely performed. Consequently, we know little of how modes of evolution differ among skeletal components. Here, we tested if ecological and phylogenetic effects led to distinct modes of evolution among the cranial, appendicular and vertebral regions in extant carnivoran skeletons. Using multivariate evolutionary models, we found mosaic evolution in which only the mandible, hindlimb and posterior (i.e. last thoracic and lumbar) vertebrae showed evidence of adaptation towards ecological regimes whereas the remaining skeletal components reflect clade-specific evolutionary shifts. We hypothesize that the decoupled evolution of individual skeletal components may have led to the origination of distinct adaptive zones and morphologies among extant carnivoran families that reflect phylogenetic hierarchies. Overall, our work highlights the importance of examining multiple skeletal components simultaneously in ecomorphological analyses. Ongoing work integrating the fossil and palaeoenvironmental record will further clarify deep-time drivers that govern the carnivoran diversity we see today and reveal the complexity of evolutionary processes in multicomponent systems.

ABSTRACT Background Objective Methods Results Conclusion Temporomandibular dysfunctions (TMDs) have the potential to cause changes in cervical muscle strength, muscle endurance and position sense by changing muscle activation patterns, especially as a result of forward head posture. The effects of TMDs on cervical joint position sense (CJPS) and head posture remain controversial.The aim of this study was to evaluate the head posture and CJPS of individuals with TMDs and compare them with healthy individuals.This research, which was designed as a case‐control study, was concluded with the inclusion of total of 84 participants (42 individuals diagnosed with myogenic TMDs, 42 controls). The assessment of participants included pain severity, neck and jaw functionality and disability, CJPS, head posture and temporomandibular joint (TMJ) range of motion (ROM).Individuals with TMDs exhibited higher angular deviation in CJPS during flexion and extension (p < 0.001). Additionally, individuals with TMDs demonstrated higher TMJ pain, limitation and dysfunction severity, as well as a more limited TMJ ROM (p < 0.001). Head posture was similar between groups (p > 0.05). There is a significant relationship between VAS‐TMJ with VAS‐cervical, FAI, NDI, JFLS‐8 and TMJ ROM (p < 0.05). Moreover, a significant correlation was observed between NDI with FAI and TMJ ROM (p < 0.05).These results indicate that in addition to higher pain severity, disability and lower jaw ROM, CJPS of individuals with TMDs is also negatively affected. Also, parameters related to disability and functionality of cervical and TMJ were significantly correlated. Further studies are needed to determine the factors contributing to these results. Background: Osteomyelitis secondary to mandibular fracture surgery is rare and complete surgical debridement of necrotic infected tissues is an optimal treatment for it. Subsequent reconstruction is required for bone defect caused by operation. Autogenous, allograft and synthetic bone graft substitutes have become widespread in bone defect treatment. Distraction osteogenesis (DO) was also applied in bone defect reconstruction, even it wasn't conventional therapy in jaw. Case presentation: Here we report a case of a 40-year-old aged man who presented with chronic swelling and pain on the right mandibular masseteric region after mandibular angle and Le Fort II fracture surgery. In six weeks after surgery, CBCT images showed that the fracture ends hadn't heal and the fracture gap had widened significantly. The clinical diagnosis of the patient was right mandibular angle osteomyelitis. After controlling the symptoms of pain and infection with local rinses and systemic antibiotic therapy, the patient underwent segmental resection of the infected bone and DO reconstruction for bone defect simultaneously. Encouragingly, well bone healing and normal occlusion restoration was observed finally. Purpose: This study aimed to evaluate the clinical efficacy of applying real-time dynamic navigation (RDN) in the extraction of deep horizontal mandibular impacted third molars, hypothesizing that RDN reduces surgical time and minimizes the risk of injury to adjacent anatomical structures. Methods: A prospective study was conducted on 160 patients aged between 18 and 37 years with deep horizontal impaction of the mandibular third molar. The participants were randomly assigned to either the experimental group (receiving RDN-assisted extractions) or the control group (undergoing traditional extraction methods). Preoperative planning utilized cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) and Mimics software for the accurate localization and segmentation of impacted teeth. Parametric data were analysed via an independent t test for intergroup comparisons, and significance was set to p < 0.05. Results: In the experimental group, an average of 11 ± 1 min was required for preoperative planning via RDN, which was not required in the control group. The setup of the navigation system took an average of 4 ± 1 min in the experimental group and 0 min in the control group. The experimental group demonstrated a significantly shorter average surgical time (22 ± 3 min) than did the control group (36 ± 3 min). The differences in the preoperative design time, surgical time, and complication rates between the two groups were statistically significant (p = 0.005). Additionally, the RDN group reported no complications related to adjacent tooth damage or nerve injury. Conclusion: The precision, safety, real-time guidance of RDN supports its use in complicated dental extractions, which would introduce a new era of oral and maxillofacial surgery. Background: The impaction of mandibular lateral incisors presents significant aesthetic and functional challenges in orthodontics, including Bolton ratio discrepancies and anterior occlusal anomalies. The increasing preference for nonextraction treatment further complicates space management within the dental arch. However, the advent of digital-assisted orthodontic technologies, particularly advanced digital simulations, has revolutionized the precision and effectiveness of diagnosis and treatment planning. These technologies enable clinicians to strategically leverage natural jaw development and create the necessary space for the alignment of impacted teeth without resorting to extraction. Case presentation: This case report details the treatment of a 12-year-old male with an impacted mandibular lateral incisor, which resulted in both aesthetic concerns and functional impairments, alongside Class II malocclusion. By employing a digital-assisted diagnostic approach, including comprehensive digital simulations, we meticulously evaluated the feasibility of a nonextraction treatment plan. The strategy centred on harnessing the patient's mandibular growth potential to expand the available space naturally. The treatment involved surgical exposure of the impacted tooth, followed by precise orthodontic traction guided by continuous digital monitoring. The integration of digital tools throughout the treatment process was crucial in achieving successful eruption and alignment of the impacted tooth, thus restoring optimal aesthetics and function without the need for extraction. Conclusion: This case highlights the transformative impact of digital-assisted technologies in the management of complex orthodontic cases, such as impacted mandibular lateral incisors. ABSTRACT Background Study Objectives Methods Results Conclusions The introduction of a smartphone‐based ecological momentary assessment (EMA) approach has allowed achieving data on the frequency of different awake bruxism (AB) behaviours (i.e., teeth contact, teeth clenching, teeth grinding, and mandible bracing) reported by an individual in the natural environment.The fluctuation of AB reports over time has a certain degree of variability that has never been investigated. Therefore, the aim of this investigation was to assess the long‐term fluctuation of AB behaviours in a population of young adults.A smartphone application was used to assess a real‐time report on five specific oral conditions related to AB in a sample of 77 young adults, aged 24.0 ± 0.8 years. Data were recorded over three periods of 7 days, with a three‐month interval for a total of 6 months.The average frequency of the relaxed condition was 72.9%, 78.2%, and 80.8% at the end of the first, second, and third sessions, respectively. On average, teeth contact and mandible bracing were the most frequently reported conditions, with a mean prevalence of 12.9% and 7%, respectively, whilst the frequency of teeth clenching and teeth grinding was less than 3%. The ANOVA test showed an absence of significant differences (p < 0.05) between the three recording periods, and the frequency was in general only moderately variable from day‐to‐day (e.g., the coefficient of variation (CV) for the condition “relaxed jaw muscles” was 0.3). No gender differences were detected either.Findings suggest that in a population of healthy individuals, the frequency of AB behaviours over a six‐month monitoring period is quite constant. The aim of this study is to present a method that optimizes clinical and laboratory workflow in the fabrication of implant‐supported removable dentures by combining conventional and digital protocols. A 73‐year‐old patient came to our clinic for treatment of a completely edentulous lower jaw. Two Neodent Helix GM implants were placed in the canine regions and a removable denture with Locator GM Novaloc retention elements was fabricated. The DENTCA system was used for impressions, border molding, and to determine both occlusovertical dimension (OVD) and reproducible, physiological position of lower jaw (RPPLJ) in a single clinical visit. In result, we have fabricated a removable denture with implant retention in just two appointments. We can conclude that DENTCA system is a reliable method that allows fabrication of implant‐retained removable denture in two clinical visits. The registration of the prosthetic field boundaries, OVD and RPPLJ, combined with CAD technologies, represents a contemporary and accurate method. Background: In very rare cases, patients who have undergone surgery-first approach with intraoral vertical ramus osteotomy (IVRO) exhibit unusual downward movements of mandible even up to 1-year post surgery, which makes it difficult for orthodontists to stabilize the occlusion during the postoperative orthodontic period. The aim of this study was to identify factors affecting the unusual downward movement of the mandible 1-year after the surgery-first approach using IVRO, while focusing on cephalometric values. Methods: This retrospective cohort study sample was divided into two groups based on the amount of vertical movement of the B-point 1-year post surgery (Group S, predictable upward movement; Group U, unpredictable downward movement greater than 2 mm). To evaluate cephalometric changes between the two groups, cephalograms were obtained before surgery, 1 day after surgery, 1 month after surgery, and 1 year after surgery. The data were analyzed using the independent t-test, Mann–Whitney U test with Bonferroni correction, Pearson correlation analysis, and multiple regression analysis. Results: At the initial examination, Group U showed a shallower anterior overbite. The vertical surgical change in the B-point was statistically different between the two groups (p < 0.001), indicating that group U exhibited more upward movement of the mandible during surgery. Group U showed significant downward movement of the mandible 1 month after surgery, and this finding persisted until 1 year postoperatively. Clockwise rotation of the mandible was also observed. Surgical vertical movement of the B-point showed a strong correlation with postoperative vertical movement of mandible (r = -0.674; p < 0.001) along a linear relationship, indicating that the amount of postoperative vertical downward movement of the mandible increased as the amount of surgical upward movement of the B-point increased (R2 = 0.449; p < 0.001). Conclusions: This study revealed that unusual downward movement of the mandible after a surgery-first approach using IVRO is correlated with the amount of upward movement during the surgery. When planning surgery, in cases in which a significant upward movement of the mandible is anticipated, orthodontists should prepare for the possibility of subsequent unusual downward movement and a tendency for the anterior overjet to decrease during the postoperative orthodontic period. Background: Extracting the premolars is an effective strategy for patients with bimaxillary dentoalveolar protrusion. Clear aligners (CAs) close the extraction spaces through shortening the length of aligners. The contraction force generated by the terminal of aligners makes the posterior teeth tip mesially, which is known as the roller coaster effect. This phenomenon is even worse in the 2nd premolar extraction cases. Posterior anchorage preparation is commonly used to protect the angulation of molars, taking the form of presetting distal tipping value. However, the distal tipping design aggravates the anchorage loss of anterior teeth simultaneously. This study aimed to explore the different anchorage loss of the posterior teeth when the 1st or 2nd premolars were extracted using CAs, respectively in maxillary and mandibular arches, further providing guidance for anchorage preparation design in clinical practice. Methods: Two bimaxillary finite element models with different extraction patterns were established to simulate the anterior en-masse retraction process of the CAs. In Model 1, the maxillary and mandibular 1st premolars were extracted, while in Model 2, the 2nd premolars were extracted. Finite element analysis methods were utilized to analyze the tipping angle of the anterior and posterior teeth. Results: Compared between two models, the anterior teeth exhibited a greater lingual inclination tendency and the posterior teeth exhibited a slighter mesial tipping tendency in Model 1 regarding individual tooth. The closer to the extraction spaces, the greater the tip, and the distal tipping tendency of the 1st premolars was more evident than the mesial tipping tendency of the 1st molars in Model 2. Compared between the maxillary and mandibular arches, the mesial tipping tendency of individual posterior tooth was more evident in the maxilla. In addition, the highest hydrostatic stress of the periodontal ligaments was concentrated on the cervical and apical parts directly adjacent to the extraction spaces, and it exhibited relatively uniform distribution in Model 1. Conclusions: The individual posterior tooth showed the same mesial tipping direction but to different degree when the 1st or the 2nd premolars were extracted during clear aligner treatment. Presetting anchorage preparation design for the posterior teeth is essential to alleviate the roller coaster effect, especially in the 2nd premolar extraction cases. The history of Panthera throughout Asia is dependent on a very scant fossil record. Dominating Asia in the Holocene, Pleistocene Panthera fossils have often been attributed to Panthera tigris. However, newer finds suggest that there was more than just P. tigris in Pleistocene Asia. Rather, species previously thought to be only from western Eurasia have been uncovered in South and East Asia, including Panthera spelaea and Panthera gombaszogensis. Therefore, re-evaluation of the fossil Panthera from Pleistocene Sunda is indicated. A partial mandible from Kedung Brubus (MIS 20–15) shows characteristics distinct from both contemporary Pleistocene P. tigris and Holocene Sunda populations. Rather, this specimen shows strong affinities with the Eurasian P. gombaszogensis. The Kedung Brubus mandible therefore provides the first evidence for the presence of P. gombaszogensis in Middle Pleistocene Sunda, becoming extinct some time after the arrival of P. tigris. Based on bioinformatics predictions, this study aims to investigate the effect of the CHEK2/TP53 axis on osteogenic differentiation of periodontal ligament stem cells (PDLSCs) and to explore the regulatory mechanism.PDLSCs were isolated from human impacted wisdom teeth, and they were cultured in normal medium (NM) or osteogenic medium (OM). Protein levels of CHEK2 and TP53 were examined using western blot analysis. Osteogenic differentiation ability of PDLSCs was analyzed by measuring marker proteins (RUNX2, OCN, and OSX), ALP activity, and ALP staining. Molecular interaction between NEDD4 like E3 ubiquitin protein ligase (NEDD4L) and CHEK2 was examined by ubiquitination and co-immunoprecipitation assays. Gain- and loss-of function assays of NEDD4L, CHEK2, and TP53 were performed to analyze their function in osteogenic differentiation of PDLSCs. A rat model of mandibular bone defect was generated for in vivo validation.NEDD4L was upregulated, while CHEK2 and TP53 were downregulated in PDLSCs cultured in OM. CHEK2 protected TP53 from degradation, while NEDD4L reduced CHEK2 protein level by ubiquitination modification. NEDD4L silencing reduced osteogenic differentiation ability of PDLSCs both in vitro and in vivo, which was restored by CHEK2 silencing. By contrast, CHEK2 overexpression blocked the osteogenic differentiation of PDLSCs in vitro.This study demonstrates that NEDD4L affects protein stability of the CHEK2/TP53 axis through ubiquitination modification, thus increasing osteogenic differentiation of PDLSCs. Masticatory muscle forces influence craniofacial morphology development. The antegonial notch (Notch) is a bony concavity on the inferior border of the mandible. Considering the Notch is located anteriorly to the insertion of the masseter muscle and varies among individuals, we hypothesised that these muscles influence the formation of the Notch. Therefore, this study aimed to investigate the correlation between mandible morphology and Notch formation. Sixty Japanese patients who visited the Department of Orthodontics at our university hospital were retrospectively evaluated. Morphological and morphometric analyses of the Notch and related craniofacial parameters were conducted using lateral cephalograms taken at the patients' initial visits. Standard values for the Notch area and depth were determined, and the morphology of the Notch and mandible was analysed using Spearman's rank correlation coefficient (p < 0.05). The mean Notch area and depth was 78.71 ± 36.54 mm2 and 3.11 ± 1.09 mm, respectively. The Notch area was significantly correlated with ramus inclination (p = 0.044, r = 0.261) and with the Y-axis (p = 0.039, r = 0.267). ABSTRACT Objectives Materials and Methods Results Conclusions This study aims to examine differences in trueness and precision between surgical guides with (S) and without sleeves (SL). A secondary aim was to assess the impact of the sleeve‐to‐bone distance.Mandible replicas (n = 120) were printed from an STL file obtained from a clinical CBCT. The mandibles were divided into sleeved (S, n = 60) and sleeveless (SL, n = 60) groups, each further divided into three categories (n = 20 each) with different heights from the guide to the implant platform: 2 mm (H2), 4 mm (H4), or 6 mm (H6). Digital planning and surgical guide design were done for a 4.1 × 10 mm implant for site #30. Post‐op positions were captured using a scan body and lab scanner. Angular deviation was the primary outcome, with 3D and 2D deviations as secondary parameters. Statistical analysis included two‐sample t‐tests, and one‐way and two‐way ANOVA.Group S (2.41 ± 1.41°) had significantly greater angular deviation than Group SL (1.65 ± 0.93°; p = 0.0001). Angular deviation increased with sleeve‐to‐bone distance. Background: To assess marginal bone loss and soft tissue health around two-implant mandibular overdenture retained with milled versus selective laser-melted cobalt chromium (Co-Cr) bars. Method: This research was set to be a parallel, triple-blinded, randomised controlled trial. Twenty completely edentulous patients received new conventional complete dentures according to conventional techniques. Two implants were placed at mandibular canine areas bilaterally, and patients were randomly allocated into two equal groups: the milled Co-Cr bar group and the selective laser melted (SLM) Co-Cr bar group. Marginal bone loss (MBL), modified plaque index (mPI), modified gingival index (mGI), and probing depth (PD) were evaluated at 0-month (baseline), 6-month, and 12-month follow-up visits. Repeated measures ANOVA test and Bonferroni's post-hoc test were used for parametric data as PD, while for non-parametric data as MBL, mGI, and mPI, Mann-Whitney U test and Friedman's test were used. A P-value ≤ 0.05 was set as the statistical level of significance. The study protocol was approved by the Faculty Research Ethics Committee at Minia University (636 4/10/2022). Registration for the clinical trial was made retrospectively on clinicaltrials.gov with ID NCT06401200 at 04/30/2024. Results: The follow-up period (one year) was completed without a dropout. Regarding MBL, no statistically significant difference was found between the two groups throughout the study. However, the milled group showed significantly increased MBL from 0- to 6-month follow up period. In both groups, mPI increased significantly from 0- to 6-months post-loading. On the other hand, no statistically significant difference between the two groups was found regarding mPI and mGI throughout the study follow-up periods. The PD was significantly lower in the milled compared to the SLM group at the 6- and 12-month follow up period. Conclusion: Two-implant mandibular overdenture retained with milled or SLM Co-Cr bar can provide an acceptable treatment option for completely edentulous patients regarding marginal bone loss and soft tissue outcomes. Background: Mandibular range of motion (MROM) variables are widely used to evaluate oral function. Objective: The aim of this study was to establish the reliability of MROM variables in healthy children. Methods: In this cross‐sectional study, healthy children were examined 2 weeks apart. The following MROM variables were established: active maximum interincisal opening (AMIO), passive maximum interincisal opening (PMIO), protrusion and left and right laterotrusion. The reliability of the MROM measurements was determined by analysing the intra‐class correlation coefficient (ICC), standard error of measurement (SEM), smallest detectable change (SDC) and limits of agreement (LoA). Results: A total of 167 healthy children were examined. The ICC indicated good reliability for AMIO (0.885); excellent reliability for PMIO (0.925); and moderate reliability for protrusion (0.578), laterotrusion left (0.601) and laterotrusion right (0.634). The SDC was 0.9 mm for AMIO, 0.4 mm for PMIO, 2.2 mm for protrusion, 1.6 mm for laterotrusion left and 1.4 mm for laterotrusion right. The LoA was −5.67 to 5.82 for AMIO, −3.90 to 3.57 for PMIO, −3.89 to 3.55 for protrusion, −2.99 to 2.77 for laterotrusion left, and − 2.71 to 2.77 for laterotrusion right. Conclusions: AMIO and PMIO measurements are both highly reliable in healthy children. The low SDC indicate that AMIO and PMIO are promising longitudinal measurements. Protrusion and laterotrusion measurements had moderate reliability. Background: Limited data exist on the mid‐ to long‐term masticatory capacity of mandibular overdenture (IOD) wearers, particularly regarding the use of posterior implants to retention. Objectives: To periodically evaluate mastication of IOD wearers, comparing the effectiveness of two to four implants to retain the prosthesis. Methods: In a randomised controlled clinical trial, 20 complete edentulous patients (14 women), aged 51–84 years (mean age 69.1 ± 9.6), received new bimaxillary complete dentures (CD). After adaptation, baseline measurements of masticatory performance (X50) and swallowing threshold were conducted using the sieving method. Patients were then randomly assigned to groups: control (two intra‐foraminal regular implants) and experimental (two intra‐foraminal regular implants and two extra‐short posterior implants) (n = 10 each). After 4 months, implants were splinted, and a new mandibular IOD was fabricated with bar/clip retention. Mastication was reassessed after 6, 12, and 48 months, and data analysed with repeated measures ANOVA and Sidak's post hoc (α = 0.05). Results: Despite a loss of two patients per group, masticatory performance significantly improved after mandibular IOD installation (p =.031) in both groups (p =.670). A second improvement was observed after 6 months (p =.027), with no subsequent changes (p >.05). Swallowing threshold improvements were noted with IOD, and no discernible differences between groups were observed (p >.05). Conclusion: Masticatory function significantly improved after mandibular IOD installation, with the number of implants demonstrating minimal influence. Clinical Trial Registration: The present study was not registered in a public database, as mandated. It is important to note that the recommendation for registration was initiated in 2017 by the Committee of Medical Journal Editors, while patient inclusion in the research took place in 2016. The diagnosis of migraine is based on clear criteria outlined in the International Classification of Headache Disorders version 3 (ICHD-3). Notably, the criteria in ICHD-3 omit the location of the migraine. There are increasing reports of migraine in the facial region. Facial presentations of migraine are not easy to diagnose as they appear in the lower two-thirds of the face, often in the maxillary sinus region, around the ear, the upper/lower jaws, and the teeth. Additionally, a similar but distinct entity, neurovascular orofacial pain, has been established. The symptomatology of facial presentations of these headaches often resembles sinusitis and dental pathology. We will review these presentations, their diagnosis, and possible pathophysiology. Background: This study estimated the predictive accuracy of the mandibular growth potential based on cervical vertebral bone age using digital lateral cephalograms in a sample of the Saudi population. Methods: This study included digital lateral cephalograms of eighty subjects aged 10–21 years divided into adult and young groups. Cervical vertebral age was calculated by tracing and measuring the third and fourth cervical vertebrae on lateral cephalograms, and the mandibular growth potential was estimated using the Mito et al. regression equation. The accuracy of the calculated CVB age was verified via comparison with the chronological age. The data analyses included independent sample t-tests for testing the differences in mean values and Pearson correlation coefficients to examine the relationship between dependent and independent variables. Results: A significant difference was noted between the mean cervical vertebral age and chronological age in the young group for both males (p = 0.0003) and females (p = 0.033). The correlation coefficient between cervical vertebral age and chronological age in the young male group was higher (r = 0.934) than that in the young females (r = 0.254). Conclusions: The mandibular growth potential prediction based on CVB age using the regression equation of Mito et al. was applicable only to the young Saudi males. Further studies are needed to develop new multiple regression models to obtain cervical vertebral age more accurately for both genders in the Saudi population. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

(1) Background: After more than a decade since their first description, Inadvertent Tooth Movements (ITMs) remain an adverse effect of orthodontic retainers without a clear etiology. To further investigate the link between ITMs and the mechanical properties of different retainers, the response upon vertical loading was compared in three retainer types (two stainless steel and one nickel–titanium). The influence of different reference teeth was also considered. (2) Methods: Three retainers (R1, R2, R3) were tested in a newly developed biomechanical analysis system (FRANS). They were bonded to 3D-printed models of the lower anterior jaw and vertically displaced up to 0.3 mm. Developing forces and moments were recorded at the center of force. (3) Results: The vertical displacement caused vertical forces (Fz) and labiolingual moments (My) to arise. These were highest in the lateral incisors (up to 2.35 ± 0.59 N and 9.27 ± 5.86 Nmm for R1; 1.69 ± 1.06 N and 7.42 ± 2.65 Nmm for R2; 3.28 ± 1.73 N and 15.91 ± 9.71 Nmm for R3) for all analyzed retainers and with the R3 retainer for all analyzed reference teeth, while the lowest Fz and My values were recorded with the R1 retainer. (4) Conclusions: Displacements of 0.2 mm and larger provided forces and moments which could be sufficient to cause unwanted torque movements, such as ITMs, in all analyzed retainers. Objectives: To assess navigation accuracy for complete‐arch implant placement with immediate loading of digitally prefabricated provisional. Materials and Methods: Consecutive edentulous and terminal dentition patients requiring at least one complete‐arch FDP were treated between December 2020 and January 2022. Accuracy was evaluated by superimposing pre‐operative and post‐operative cone beam computed tomography (CBCT), recording linear (mm) and angular (degrees) deviations. T‐tests were performed to investigate the potential effect of the registration algorithm (fiducial‐based vs. fiducial‐free), type of references for the fiducial‐free algorithm (teeth vs. bone screws), site characteristic (healed vs. post‐extractive), implant angulation (axial vs. tilted), type of arch (maxilla vs. mandible) on the accuracy with p‐value <0.05. Results: Twenty‐five patients, 36 complete‐arches, and 161 implants were placed. The overall mean angular deviation was 2.19° (SD 1.26°). The global platform and apex mean deviations were 1.17 mm (SD 0.57 mm), and 1.30 mm (SD 0.62 mm). Meaningful global platform (p = 0.0009) and apical (p = 0.0109) deviations were experienced only between healed and post‐extraction sites. None of the analyzed variables significantly influenced angular deviation. Minor single‐axis deviations were reported for the type of jaw (y‐axis at implant platform and apex), registration algorithm (y‐axis platform and z‐axis deviations), and type of references for the fiducial‐free algorithm. No statistically significant differences were found in relation to implant angulation. Conclusions: Within the study limitations navigation was reliable for complete‐arch implant placement with immediate loading digitally pre‐fabricated FDP. AI‐driven surface anatomy identification and calibration protocol made fiducial‐free registration as accurate as fiducial‐based, teeth and bone screws equal as references. Implant site characteristics were the only statistically significant variable with healed sites reporting higher accuracy compared to post‐extractive. Live‐tracked navigation surgery enhanced operator performance and accuracy regardless of implant angulation and type of jaw. A mean safety room of about 1 mm and 2° should be considered. Background: Two intra‐coronal preparation designs with varying extensions of cuspal coverage can perform differently regarding their fracture resistance against introral forces. Methods: Two materials (IPS e‐max CAD [EX], VITA ENAMIC [EN]), and two different preparation designs (EX‐D1), (EX‐D2), (EN‐D1), and (EN‐D2) were investigated to compare their fracture resistance. A total of 40 (n = 40) caries free human mandibular molars were used. All the prepared samples were scanned using CEREC Omnicam scanner and the preparations were checked by the software for any sharpness and undercuts before restoration designing and fabrication. All restorations were milled using Cerec MCXL 4.4 milling machine. Duo‐Link resin cement was used for cementation. After thermocycling and chewing simulation, all samples were loaded in the Universal testing machine in order to evaluate fracture resistance of all samples. Results: Fracture resistance testing revealed that e‐max CAD (2134 N) showed statistically significantly higher mean fracture resistance values than Vita Enamic (1728 N). On the other hand, there was no statistically significant difference between mean fracture resistances between the two tested designs. Conclusions: Within the confines of this investigation, it can be said that although preparation design had no appreciable impact on fracture resistance, the CAD/CAM ceramic material utilized did. Clinical Significance: When restoring compound cavitties indirectly; a conservative defect oriented approach should be used. Glass Ceramic are prefered as restorative material. Objectives: Investigation of the therapeutic effect of zoledronic acid (ZA) in a preclinical model of jaw osteosarcoma (JO). Materials and Methods: The effect of 100 μg/kg ZA administered twice a week was assessed in a xenogenic mouse model of JO. The clinical (tumor growth, development of lung metastasis), radiological (bone microarchitecture by micro‐CT analysis), and molecular and immunohistochemical (TRAP, RANK/RANKL, VEGF, and CD146) parameters were investigated. Results: Animals receiving ZA exhibited an increased tumor volume compared with nontreated animals (71.3 ± 14.3 mm3 vs. 51.9 ± 19.9 mm3 at D14, respectively; p = 0.06) as well as increased numbers of lung metastases (mean 4.88 ± 4.45 vs. 0.50 ± 1.07 metastases, respectively; p = 0.02). ZA protected mandibular bone against tumor osteolysis (mean bone volume of 12.81 ± 0.53 mm3 in the ZA group vs. 11.55 ± 1.18 mm3 in the control group; p = 0.01). ZA induced a nonsignificant decrease in mRNA expression of the osteoclastic marker TRAP and an increase in RANK/RANKL bone remodeling markers. Conclusion: The use of bisphosphonates in the therapeutic strategy for JO should be further explored, as should the role of bone resorption in the pathophysiology of the disease. Although enhanced fibroblast growth factor (FGF) signaling has been demonstrated to be crucial in many cases of syndromic cleft palate caused by tongue malposition in humans, animal models that recapitulate this phenotype are limited, and the precise mechanisms remain elusive. Mutations in FGF9 with the effect of either loss- or gain-of-function effects have been identified to be associated with cleft palate in humans. Here, we generated a mouse model with a transgenic Fgf9 allele specifically activated in cranial neural crest cells, aiming to elucidate the gain-of-function effects of Fgf9 in palatogenesis. We observed cleft palate with 100% penetrance in mutant mice. Further analysis demonstrated that no inherent defects in the morphogenic competence of palatal shelves could be found, but a passively lifted tongue prevented the elevation of palatal shelves, leading to the cleft palate. This tongue malposition was induced by posterior spatial confinement that was exerted by temporomandibular joint (TMJ) dysplasia characterized by a reduction in Sox9+ progenitors within the condyle and a structural decrease in the posterior dimension of the lower jaw. Our findings highlight the critical role of excessive FGF signaling in disrupting spatial coordination during palate development and suggest a potential association between palatal shelf elevation and early TMJ development. A 61-year-old female patient presented with hyperpigmented and hemorrhagic areas in the anterior mandible. During the dissection of the cervicofacial area in a donated male cadaver, an asymmetrical division of the facial artery (FA) and a premasseteric artery (PA) were identified. Specifically, on the left side, the FA stem is divided into four branches (quadrifurcation) 4.26 mm below the lower border of the mandible. In contrast, it is divided into two branches (bifurcation) on the right side. Whether symmetrical or asymmetrical, these variants can have significant implications for rhinoplastic, maxillofacial, or reconstructive surgery. Central mucoepidermoid carcinoma is a relatively rare salivary gland tumour of the jawbone. Glandular odontogenic cyst is another unique odontogenic developmental cyst characterised by glandular differentiation. Both entities share several histological characteristics, and a pre-existing Glandular odontogenic cyst can evolve into Central mucoepidermoid carcinoma. Case 1: A 56-year-old male presented with chief complaint of swelling in lower left facial region since 1 year. Histopathology revealed multicystic compartments resembling mucoepidermoid carcinoma, but strong positive expression of Cytokeratin 13 upon immunohistochemistry helped us in rendering the final diagnosis as Glandular odontogenic cyst Case 2: A 34-year-old female presented with a lesion on right side of face. Histologically, the biopsy specimen revealed both typical findings of a Glandular odontogenic cyst component and a recognizable component of Mucoepidermoid carcinoma. The results from cytokeratin profiling demonstrated that, while both Mucoepidermoid carcinoma and Glandular odontogenic cyst expressed Cyokeratins 7, 18, and 19. Cytokeratin 13 was interestingly exclusively expressed in Glandular odontogenic cyst. Present case findings showed that central mucoepidermoid carcinoma and Glandular odontogenic cyst may be part of the same disease spectrum. However, because the expression profile of Cytokeratin13 in mucoepidermoid carcinoma and Glandular odontogenic cyst was so diverse, it can be used to differentiate both. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

We described a new pair of incomplete mandibles from the Qingshuiying locality, Northwest China, and referred it to Eggysodon, E. lingwuensis sp. nov. The new species has a typical mosaic assemblage of features: dp1 (or p1) is present at adult stage, but the symphysis is posteriorly elongated and the diastema distance between the canine and dp1 (or p1) is further shortened. In terms of the evolutionary stage, E. lingwuensis sp. nov. is more advanced than E. osborni, but comparable to that of E. gaudryi. Together with other mammals from the Qingshuiying locality, we suggested that the strata-produced new material was deposited during the Early Oligocene. On the other hand, the continental fauna exchange during the Palaeogene between Europe and Asia had very scarce records. Eggysodon has four species from the Oligocene of Europe.
