On 28th January 2018, the large Trans-Neptunian Object (TNO) 2002TC302 occulted a m$_v= $15.3 star with ID 130957813463146112 in the Gaia DR2 stellar catalog. 12 positive occultation chords were obtained from Italy, France, Slovenia and Switzerland. Also, 4 negative detections were obtained near the north and south limbs. This represents the best observed stellar occultation by a TNO other than Pluto, in terms of the number of chords published thus far. From the 12 chords, an accurate elliptical fit to the instantaneous projection of the body, compatible with the near misses, can be obtained. The resulting ellipse has major and minor axes of 543 $\pm$ 18 km and 460 $\pm$ 11 km, respectively, with a position angle of 3 $\pm$ 1 degrees for the minor axis. This information, combined with rotational light curves obtained with the 1.5m telescope at Sierra Nevada Observatory and the 1.23m telescope at Calar Alto observatory, allows us to derive possible 3D shapes and density estimations for the body, based on hydrostatic equilibrium assumptions. The effective area equivalent diameter is $\sim$ 84 km smaller than the radiometrically derived diameter using thermal data from Herschel and Spitzer Space Telescopes. This might indicate the existence of an unresolved satellite of up to $\sim$ 300 km in diameter, to account for all the thermal flux, although the occultation and thermal diameters are compatible within their error bars given the considerable uncertainty of the thermal results. The existence of a potential satellite also appears to be consistent with other ground-based data presented here. From the effective occultation diameter combined with H$_V$ measurements we derive a geometric albedo of 0.147 $\pm$ 0.005, which would be somewhat smaller if 2002TC302 has a satellite. The orbital degrees of freedom are of vital importance in explanation of various phenomena. Among them is the orbital-selective Mott transition (OSMT), which is thought to occur in several materials as Ca$_{2-x}$Sr$_x$RuO$_4$ and La$_{n+1}$Ni${_n}$O$_{3n+1}$. OSMT is usually studied in the infinite-dimension limit, and for the time being, it is not clear if it could survive in one-dimensional (1D) case. There exist two scenarios for the OSMT: upon increasing the interaction in a two-band system i) one of the bands becomes insulating, while the other remains metallic and ii) one of the bands becomes empty, while the other may eventually undergo a single-band Mott insulator transition. In this work, we present a preliminary study of the two-orbital Hubbard model by means of Density Matrix Renormalization Group in 1D at quarter-filling, where the second scenario seems to be realized. We present the exact solution of a system of Fermi particles living on the sites of a Bethe lattice with coordination number z and interacting through on-site U and nearest-neighbor V interactions. This is a physical realization of the extended Hubbard model in the atomic limit. Within the Green's function and equations of motion formalism, we provide a comprehensive analysis of the model and we study the phase diagram at finite temperature in the whole model's parameter space, allowing for the on-site and nearest-neighbor interactions to be either repulsive or attractive. We find the existence of critical regions where charge ordering (V>0) and phase separation (V<0) are observed. Within the Green's function and equations of motion formalism it is possible to exactly solve a large class of models useful for the study of strongly correlated systems. Here, we present the exact solution of the one-dimensional extended Hubbard model with on-site $U$ and first nearest neighbor repulsive V interactions in the presence of an external magnetic field h, in the narrow band limit. At zero temperature our results establish the existence of four phases in the three-dimensional space (U, n, h) - n is the filling - with relative phase transitions, as well as different types of charge ordering. The magnetic field may dramatically affect the behavior of thermodynamic quantities, inducing, for instance, magnetization plateaus in the magnetization curves, and a change from a single to a double-peak structure in the specific heat. According to the value of the particle density, we find one or two critical fields, marking the beginning of full or partial polarization. We consider the extended Hubbard model in the atomic limit on a Bethe lattice with coordination number z. By using the equations of motion formalism, the model is exactly solved for both attractive and repulsive intersite potential V. By focusing on the case of negative V, i.e., attractive intersite interaction, we study the phase diagram at finite temperature and find, for various values of the filling and of the on-site coupling U, a phase transition towards a state with phase separation. We determine the critical temperature as a function of the relevant parameters, U/|V|, n and z and we find a reentrant behavior in the plane (U/|V|,T). We study the one-dimensional S=1 Blume-Emery-Griffiths model. Upon transforming the spin model into an equivalent fermionic model, we provide the exact solution within the Green's function and equations of motion formalism. We show that the relevant response functions as well as thermodynamic quantities can be determined, in the whole parameters space, in terms of a finite set of local correlators. Furthermore, considering the case of an antiferromagnetic chain with single-ion anisotropy in the presence of an external magnetic field, we find three plateaus in the magnetization curve; in the neighborhood of the endpoints of the intermediate plateau, the specific heat shows a double peak structure., Comment: 7 pages, 4 figures. We present the exact solution of the one-dimensional extended Hubbard model in the atomic limit within the Green's function and equation of motion formalism. We provide a comprehensive and systematic analysis of the model by considering all the relevant response and correlation functions as well as thermodynamic quantities in the whole parameter space. At zero temperature we identify four phases in the plane (U,n) [U is the onsite potential and n is the filling] and relative phase transitions as well as different types of charge ordering. These features are endorsed by investigating at T=0 the chemical potential and pertinent local correlators, the particle and double occupancy correlation functions, the entropy, and by studying the behavior in the limit T going to zero of the charge and spin susceptibilities. A detailed study of the thermodynamic quantities is also presented at finite temperature. This study evidences that a finite-range order persists for a wide range of the temperature, as shown by the behavior of the correlation functions and by the two-peak structure exhibited by the charge susceptibility and by the entropy. Moreover, the equation of motion formalism, together with the use of composite operators, allows us to exactly determine the set of elementary excitations. As a result, the density of states can be determined exactly and a detailed analysis of the specific heat allows for identifying the excitations and for ascribing its two-peak structure to a redistribution of the charge density., Comment: 28 pages;added references and corrected typos. We study the phase diagram at finite temperature of a system of Fermi particles on the sites of the Bethe lattice with coordination number z and interacting through onsite U and nearest-neighbor V interactions. This is a physical realization of the extended Hubbard model in the atomic limit. By using the equations of motion method, we exactly solve the model. For an attractive intersite potential, we find, at half filling, a phase transition towards a broken particle-hole symmetry state. In this paper we present for the first time the exact solution in the narrow-band limit of the 1D extended Hubbard model with nearest-neighbour spin-spin interactions described by an exchange constant J. An external magnetic field h is also taken into account. This result has been obtained in the framework of the Green's functions formalism, using the Composite Operator Method. By means of this theoretical background, we have studied some relevant features such as double occupancy, magnetization, spin-spin and charge-charge correlation functions and derived a phase diagram for both ferro (J>0) and anti-ferro (J<0) coupling in the limit of zero temperature. We also report a study on density of states, specific heat, charge and spin susceptibilities. In the limit of zero temperature, we show that the model exhibits a very rich phase diagram characterized by different magnetic orders and by the coexistence of charge and spin orderings at commensurate filling. Moreover, our analysis at finite temperature of density of states and response functions shows the presence of low-temperature charge and spin excitations near the phase boundaries., Comment: 20 pages, 32 figures

I study the one-dimensional spin-1 Blume-Emery-Griffiths model with bilinear and biquadratic exchange interactions and single-ion crystal field under an applied magnetic field. This model can be exactly mapped into a tight-binding Hubbard model - extended to include intersite interactions - provided one renormalizes the chemical and the on-site potentials, which become temperature dependent. After this transformation, I provide the exact solution of the Blume-Emery-Griffiths model in one dimension by means of the Green's functions and equations of motion formalism. I investigate the magnetic variations of physical quantities - such as magnetization, quadrupolar moment, susceptibility - for different values of the interaction parameters and of the applied field, focusing on the role played by the biquadratic interaction in the breakdown of the magnetization plateaus., Comment: 4 pages, 5 figures. We study the two-orbital Hubbard model in the limit of vanishing kinetic energy. The phase diagram in the $V-J$ plane, with $V$ and $J$ denoting the interorbital hybridization and exchange coupling respectively, at half filling is obtained. A singlet(dimer)-triplet transition is found for a critical value of the ratio $V/J.$ The entropy of formation, both in the mode and in the particle picture, presents a jump as the same critical line in conformity with the suggested relation between criticality and entanglement., Comment: 5 pages, 1 figure

We present a study of entanglement in the case of the 1D extended anisotropic Heisenberg model. We investigate two quantum phase transitions (QPTs) within the previously found ergodicity phase diagram [E. Plekhanov, A. Avella, and F. Mancini Phys. Rev. B \textbf{74}, 115120 (2006)]. Our calculations are done by means of the numerically exact Lanczos method at T=0, followed by a finite-size scaling. As a measure of entanglement we use the concurrence for two spins out of the system. By using Density Matrix Renormalization Group (DMRG) technique we study the 1D extended anisotropic Heisenberg model. We find that starting from the ferromagnetic phase, the system undergoes two quantum phase transitions (QPTs) induced by frustration. By increasing the next-nearest-neighbor (NNN) interaction, the ground state of the system changes smoothly from a completely polarized state to a NNN correlated one. The spontaneous emergence of enhanced responses and local orders are properties often associated with complex matter where nonlinearities and spatial inhomogeneities dominate. We discuss these phenomena in quantum devices realized with superconducting Josephson junction networks and cold atoms in optical lattices. We consider the quadrupolar glass model with infinite-range random interaction. Introducing a simple one-step replica symmetry breaking ansatz we investigate the para-glass continuous (discontinuous) transition which occurs below (above) a critical value of the quadrupole dimension m*. By using a mean-field approximation we study the stability of the one-step replica symmetry breaking solution and show that for m>m* there are two transitions. The thermodynamic transition is discontinuous but there is no latent heat. At a higher temperature we find the dynamical or glass transition temperature and the corresponding discontinuous jump of the order parameter., Comment: 10 pages, 3 figures

In this paper, we study the Ising model with general spin $S$ in presence of an external magnetic field by means of the equations of motion method and of the Green's function formalism. First, the model is shown to be isomorphic to a fermionic one constituted of $2S$ species of localized particles interacting via an intersite Coulomb interaction. Then, an exact solution is found, for any dimension, in terms of a finite, complete set of eigenoperators of the latter Hamiltonian and of the corresponding eigenenergies. This explicit knowledge makes possible writing exact expressions for the corresponding Green's function and correlation functions, which turn out to depend on a finite set of parameters to be self-consistently determined. Finally, we present an original procedure, based on algebraic constraints, to exactly fix these latter parameters in the case of dimension 1 and spin $\frac32$. For this latter case and, just for comparison, for the cases of dimension 1 and spin $\frac12$ [F. Mancini, Eur. Phys. J. B \textbf{45}, 497 (2005)] and spin 1 [F. Mancini, Eur. Phys. J. B \textbf{47}, 527 (2005)], relevant properties such as magnetization $$ and square magnetic moment $$, susceptibility and specific heat are reported as functions of temperature and external magnetic field both for ferromagnetic and antiferromagnetic couplings. It is worth noticing the use we made of composite operators describing occupation transitions among the 3 species of localized particles and the related study of single, double and triple occupancy per site.
