BACKGROUND: Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) have been linked to adverse birth outcomes that have been reported to be induced by oxidative stress, but few epidemiological studies to date have evaluated associations between urinary PAH metabolites and oxidative stress biomarkers in pregnancy and identified critical periods for these outcomes and PAH exposures in pregnancy. METHODS: A cohort of pregnant women was recruited early in pregnancy from antenatal clinics at the University of California Los Angeles during 2016-2019. We collected urine samples up to three times during pregnancy in a total of 159 women enrolled in the cohort. A total of 7 PAH metabolites and 2 oxidative stress biomarkers [malondialdehyde (MDA), 8-hydroxy-2-deoxyguanosine (8-OHdG)] were measured in all available urine samples. Using multiple linear regression models, we estimated the percentage change (%) and 95% confidence interval (CI) in 8-OHdG and MDA measured at each sample collection time per doubling of PAH metabolite concentrations. Furthermore, we used linear mixed models with a random intercept for participant to estimate the associations between PAH metabolite and oxidative stress biomarker concentrations across multiple time points in pregnancy. RESULTS: Most PAH metabolites were positively associated with both urinary oxidative stress biomarkers, MDA and 8-OHdG, with stronger associations in early and late pregnancy. A doubling of each urinary PAH metabolite concentration increased MDA concentrations by 5.8-41.1% and 8-OHdG concentrations by 13.8-49.7%. Linear mixed model results were consistent with those from linear regression models for each gestational sampling period. CONCLUSION: Urinary PAH metabolites are associated with increases in oxidative stress biomarkers during pregnancy, especially in early and late pregnancy.

We introduce an approach for calculating perturbative corrections to the ring-polymer instanton approximation to tunneling splittings (RPI+PC) by computing higher-order terms in the asymptotic expansion in ℏ. The resulting method goes beyond standard instanton theory by using information on the third and fourth derivatives of the potential along the tunneling path to include additional anharmonic effects. This leads to significant improvements both in systems with low barriers and in systems with anharmonic modes. We demonstrate the applicability of RPI+PC to molecular systems by computing the tunneling splitting in full-dimensional malonaldehyde and a deuterated derivative. Comparing to both experiment and recent quantum mechanical benchmark results, we find that our perturbative correction reduces the error from −11% to 2% for hydrogen transfer and performs even better for the deuterated case. This makes our approach more accurate than previous calculations using diffusion Monte Carlo and path-integral molecular dynamics while being more computationally efficient. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: Random-pattern skin flaps are commonly used to repair skin tissue defects in surgical tissue reconstruction. However, flap necrosis in the distal area due to ischemia injury is still challenging for its applications in plastic surgery. The complications of diabetes will further increase the risk of infection and necrosis. Methods: This study induced type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) rats with a high-fat diet and STZ. The survival rate of the skin flap was observed by adding inorganic sodium nitrate to drinking water. Histology and immunohistochemistry were used to detect the damage to the skin flap. The nitrate content was measured by total nitric oxide and nitrate/nitrite parameter assay. Dihydroethidium and malondialdehyde (MDA) assays were used to value oxidative stress. Rat colon feces were collected for 16s rRNA gene sequence. Results: Our studies showed that nitrate administration leads to anti-obesity and anti-diabetic effects. Nitrate directly increased the survival area of skin flaps in diabetic rats and mean blood vessel density by enhancing angiogenesis, inhibiting apoptosis, and reducing oxidative stress. The 16s rRNA sequence revealed that nitrate may regulate the homeostasis of the gut microbiota and re-store energy metabolism. Conclusion: Dietary nitrate has been shown to maintain the homeostasis of oxidative stress and gut microbiota to promote flap survival in rats with T2DM. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: Heat stress is one of the abiotic stresses that make wheat crops vulnerable, which significantly impacts crop production around the world. An increase in temperature during the reproductive phase (anthesis) beyond the optimal range of 15–20 °C leads to decreased crop production, poor quality of the grain, and altered physiological and biochemical processes. To study the association between high temperature and physio-biochemical traits under normal and late sown, a set of fifteen genotypes was utilized. Results: Relative water content under high temperatures had an overall decrease of 8.7%. However, grain protein and malondialdehyde content were higher in the stressed conditions than in the control, with increases of 20.2% and 38.9%, respectively. Marker Xgwm67, located on chromosome 5B, was found to be significantly associated with malondialdehyde content (R2 = 21%) and Xgwm570, located on 6A, was closely linked to relative water content as well as grain protein content (R2 = 16%) revealed by regression analysis. The correlation matrix displays a positive association between the control and stressed condition by R2 = 0.92, 0.82, and 0.53 in malondialdehyde, relative water content, and grain protein, respectively. However, there was a negative correlation between water content–malondialdehyde and malondialdehyde–grain protein, though there was only a 4% correlation between grain protein content (control) and relative water content (stressed). Based on the tolerance matrix, WH730 and RAJ4079 were heat tolerant, and DBW173 and HD3086 were sensitive. Conclusions: These findings indicate that to identify tolerant genotypes, physiological and biochemical traits can be utilized as an alternate criterion, and these closely associated markers can be applied for improved late-planted wheat production through MAS. The breeding scheme and genome editing by recognizing novel genes through physio-biochemical parameters, marker-assisted selection, and prospective screening of tolerant genotypes are proclaimed by the study. Background: Sperm cryopreservation potential can be explored in diverse conditions to hamper future fertility. Reactive oxygen species (ROS) were among the prime candidate responsible for vulnerability of the sperms due to lack of intracellular antioxidants defense. Aim: The study aim to investigate the association between DNA fragmentation index and antioxidant enzyme. Methods: This controlled observational hospital based study was conducted on men participants (n=100). The semen specimens with normal sperm count and motility post fertility work up was collected in a sterile vial containing cryoprotectant and thereafter stored in a freezer having liquid nitrogen -196 °C for 7 days at controlled rate. Sperm morphology, DNA fragmentation and motility along with malondialdehyde and total antioxidant capacity (TAC) were measured before and after cryopreservation. Results: Semen specimens post cryopreservation demonstrated significant decrease in sperm motility, number and malondialdehyde level (p<0.001). There was a significant increase in DNA fragmentation and total antioxidant capacity levels (p<0.001). Yam bean (Pachyrhizus erosus L.) is a prominent medicinal plant exerting various health benefits. However, it remains unknown whether yam bean fiber (YB) is also capable of counteracting the deleterious effects of a high-fat diet (HFD) on the small intestine. This present study aimed to investigate the effect of YB supplementation on the glucagonlike peptide 1 (GLP-1) expression, oxidative stress, and histopathological alterations of the small intestine in mice fed an HFD. Twenty-seven mice were assigned equally into three different diet treatment groups: normal diet (ND), HFD, and HFD supplemented with 10% of YB (HFD + YB). After eight weeks, mRNA expression of GLP-1, malondialdehyde (MDA) levels, catalase (CAT) activity in the small intestinal tissue were determined, and the anatomical and histopathological alterations of the intestine were investigated. The results demonstrated that YB supplementation was effective in precluding HFD-indued reduction of GLP-1 mRNA expression in the small intestine. YBF also prevented MDA elevation while ameliorating CAT activity. Furthermore, YBF exerted an ameliorative effect against HFD-induced morphological and histological alterations of the small intestine, particularly in intestinal length, index, and the number of inflammatory cells in the mucosal layer. This study revealed that YB supplementation could effectively prevent the impairment of GLP-1 expression and oxidative stress while ameliorating the histopathological alterations of the small intestine caused by HFD. Strawberry fruits are popular among consumers because of their unique flavor and reported health benefits. However, microbial growth and oxidative stress that occur in postharvest storage cause strawberry fruits to have a relatively short postharvest life, which reduces consumer acceptance. This study aimed to evaluate the effects of exogenous melatonin application on the enzymatic activity and postharvest quality of strawberry fruits that are stored at 4 ± 0.5 °C. A total of 288 fruits with four replicates for each of the three treatments (control, 200 µM melatonin, and 500 µM melatonin) were used. Several quality metrics were regularly assessed at 3-day intervals during the 18-day storage trials. The results suggested that the exogenous melatonin application significantly increased the activity of antioxidant enzymes at the physiological level, including catalase, ascorbate peroxidase, superoxide dismutase, and peroxidase which led to reductions in weight loss, the decay incidence, and the malondialdehyde level. The use of melatonin successfully delayed changes in the soluble solids concentration, ascorbic acid, titratable acidity, and fruit firmness. Objective To evaluate the protective effect and underlying mechanism of ulinastatin on hepatic ischemia-reperfusion injury. Methods Twenty-four male SD rats were divided into three groups: sham operation group (Sham group), hepatic ischemia-reperfusion injury group (HIRI group) and hepatic ischemia-reperfusion injury + ulinastatin pretreatment group (HIRI+UTI group), with 8 rats in each group. The HIRI rat models were established by occluding hepatic portal vein and hepatic artery for 1 h. In the HIRI+UTI group, the rats were intraperitoneally injected with ulinastatin at 30 min before model establishment, and an equivalent amount of normal saline was given in the Sham and HIRI groups. The rats were sacrificed at 6 h after model establishment. Serum samples were collected to detect alanine aminotransferase (ALT) and aspartate aminotransferase (AST) levels. Pathological changes of liver tissues were observed by hematoxylin-eosin (HE) staining. Ultrastructural changes of mitochondria in liver tissues were observed by transmission electron microscopy. The expression of glutathione peroxidase 4 (GPX4) was determined by immunofluorescent staining. The contents of malondialdehyde (MDA), glutathione (GSH), Fe, reactive oxygen species (ROS) and GPX4 were detected. The expression levels of GPX4 and acyl-CoA synthetase long-chain family 4 (ACSL4) messenger RNA (mRNA) and proteins in liver tissue were measured. Results Compared with the Sham group, serum ALT and AST levels were up-regulated, pathological changes such as congestion, hepatocyte necrosis and abnormal hepatic lobule structure were observed, pathological score was increased, the mitochondria shrank, the membrane density was increased, the mitochondrial crest was damaged or even absent, the contents of ROS, MDA and Fe were elevated, the GSH content was decreased, the fluorescent intensity of GPX4 was weakened, the relative expression levels of ACSL4 mRNA and protein were up-regulated, and the relative expression levels of GPX4 mRNA and protein were down-regulated in the HIRI group (all P<0.05). Compared with the HIRI group, serum ALT and AST levels were down-regulated, liver tissue injury was alleviated, pathological score was decreased, mitochondrial shrinkage and crest breakage were mitigated, the contents of ROS, MDA and Fe were down-regulated, the GSH content was up-regulated, the fluorescent intensity of GPX4 was enhanced, the relative expression levels of ACSL4 mRNA and protein were down-regulated, and the relative expression levels of GPX4 mRNA and protein were up-regulated in the HIRI+UTI group (all P<0.05). Introduction: Traditionally and empirically, Hibiscus sabdariffa L. has been used in treating diabetes mellitus due to its antioxidant activity. This study aimed to investigate the effect of administering the ethyl acetate fraction of hibiscus calyxes (EAFHCs) on malondialdehyde (MDA) levels, tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α) levels, bleeding time, and platelet count in male white rats induced with streptozotocin-induced diabetes. Method: Thirty-six Wistar Kyoto rats were induced with intraperitoneal streptozotocin at 55 mg/kg BW and stabilized for 5 days to obtain diabetic conditions. Diabetic animals were divided into four groups; the diabetic group was given vehicle, the glibenclamide group was given 0.45 mg/kg BW of glibenclamide, and two groups were administered the EAFHCs at doses of 100 mg/kg BW and 200 mg/kg BW for 5 days. Subsequently, the MDA, TNF-α, bleeding time and platelet count levels were examined on days 1, 3, and 5, respectively. All data were analyzed using two-way ANOVA followed by the Duncan Multiple Range Test (DMRT). Results: EAFHC significantly reduced MDA and TNF-α levels (p < 0.05). Additionally, this fraction appeared to shorten bleeding time and decrease platelet count in diabetic rats. Administration of the EAFHC for 5 days effectively lowered MDA and TNF-α levels significantly, decreased platelet counts and prolonged coagulation (p < 0.05) in diabetic rats. Purpose: This study aimed to determine the effect of the probiotic Saccharomyces boulardii (S. boulardii) in patients with knee osteoarthritis (KOA). Methods: In this study, 70 patients with KOA were recruited via outpatient clinics between 2020 and 2021 and randomly assigned to receive probiotics or placebo supplements for 12 weeks. The primary outcome was a change in pain intensity according to the Western Ontario and McMaster Universities Osteoarthritis Index (WOMAC) pain score. Results: Sixty-three patients completed the trial. A linear mixed analysis of covariance (ANCOVA) model analysis showed that probiotic was better than placebo in decreasing the pain intensity measured by visual analogue scale (VAS) [−2.11 (−2.59, −1.62) in probiotic group and −0.90 (−1.32, −0.48) in placebo group, p = 0.002] and WOMAC pain score [−3.57 (−4.66, −2.49) in probiotic group and −1.43 (−2.33, −0.53) in placebo group, p < 0.001]. The daily intake of acetaminophen for pain management significantly decreased in the probiotic group [−267.18 (−400.47, −133.89) mg, p < 0.001] that was significantly better than placebo (p = 0.006). Probiotic significantly decreased the serum levels of high-sensitivity C-reactive protein (hs-CRP) inflammatory index [−2.72 (−3.24, −2.20) µg/ml] and malondialdehyde (MDA) oxidative stress index [−1.61 (−2.11, −1.11) nmol/ml] compared to the placebo (p = 0.002 and p < 0.001, respectively). Probiotic was better than placebo in increasing the scores of role disorder due to physical health (p = 0.023), pain (p = 0.048) and physical health (p = 0.031). Conclusion: Probiotic S. boulardii supplementation in patients with KOA significantly improved pain intensity, some dimensions of QoL, and inflammatory and oxidative stress biomarkers with no severe side effects. This study examined the effects of resistance training (RT), Tai Chi (TC) and combination intervention (RT & TC) on the oxidative stress, blood glucose and lipid metabolism and quality of life of elderly patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). Ninety-four elderly patients with T2DM were randomly divided into an RT group (RTG, n = 23), TC group (TCG, n = 24), combination intervention group (CIG, n = 24) and control group (CG, n = 23). All participants were given nutrition and medication. On this basis, RTG, TCG and CIG were administered for 24 weeks (3 times/week, 40 minutes/time). Observation indicators were malondialdehyde (MDA), superoxide dismutase (SOD), 8-hydroxy-2 deoxyguanosine (8-OHdG), fasting plasma glucose (FPG), postprandial plasma glucose (PPG), haemoglobin A1c (HbA1c) and diabetes specific quality of life (DSQL). RT, TC and joint intervention can reduce the oxidative stress damage on elderly patients with T2DM to different degrees, control the levels of blood sugar and blood lipid and improve the quality of life. Compared with single intervention, combination intervention can further reduce the level of oxidative stress but has no additional benefits on blood glucose and lipid control and quality of life. Environmental pollutants act as stressors for plants, inducing different stresses like physiological changes, variation in nutritional value, biochemical stress and photosynthetic blockage, and food loss. Phthalate esters are one of the environmental pollutants most commonly used as plasticizers in packaging materials. They leach out into the soil and accumulate in plants via root take-up. The present research work was carried out to check the phytotoxic effect of dibutyl phthalate, dimethyl phthalate, diethyl phthalate, and di-n-octyl phthalate, their exposure to Malondialdehyde contents, and the consequent impact on the total phenolic content of edible parts of plants. The edible plants tomato (Solanum lycopersicum), lettuce (Lactuca sativa), radish (Raphanus sativus), turnip (Brassica rapa subsp. rapa), spinach (Spinacia oleracea), coriander (Coriandrum sativum), cabbage (Brassica oleracea), cauliflower (Brassica oleracea var. botrytis), and carrot (Daucus carota subsp. sativus) were exposed to 0, 10, and 20pbb of all four phthalate esters. After 10 days of exposure, TPC and MDA contents were analyzed spectrophotometrically. The exposure of phthalate esters significantly increased TPC in leaves, and MDA in the root and leaves of plants, except that of DnOP which decreased MDA content in radish leaves. Objective: Metabolic syndrome (MetS) is characterized by the cluster of risk factors associated with diabetes and cardiovascular diseases. Given the influential role of oxidative stress (OxS) in the pathogenesis of MetS and the antioxidant properties of melatonin, our study aims to investigate the impact of melatonin supplementation on OxS biomarkers and serum endothelin-1 (ET-1) levels in patients diagnosed with MetS. Methods: This double-blind, placebo-controlled, randomized clinical trial involved male and female adult participants with MetS. Subjects in the melatonin and control groups were administered 6 mg/day of encapsulated powdered melatonin or placebo (wheat flour), respectively, over a 12-week period. We evaluated serum levels of malondialdehyde (MDA), superoxide dismutase (SOD) activity, and ET-1 in MetS patients, both pre- and post-intervention. Results: Melatonin supplementation significantly decreased serum ET-1 level (1.55 ± 0.24 pg/ml vs. 0.808 ± 0.18 pg/ml; p = 0.04) and MDA (1.326 ± 0.05 μM vs. 1.134 ± 0.05 μM; p = 0.021) in the melatonin group relative to baseline values. Additionally, SOD activity displayed a significant increase (23.64 ± 2.77 U/ml vs. 41.35 ± 1.22 U/ml; p = 0.0001) in the melatonin group when compared to baseline. Conclusion: Our research indicates that 12 weeks of melatonin supplementation in MetS patients leads to a significant reduction in serum ET-1 and MDA levels, alongside an increase in SOD activity levels relative to baseline. However, further comprehensive and well-structured randomized controlled trials are essential for establishing the effects of melatonin supplementation on OxS biomarkers in diverse age demographics. Considering the established pharmacokinetics and toxicity profiles, drug repurposing has emerged as an alternative therapeutic approach for treating cancer. Mefloquine has previously demonstrated inhibitory effects on multiple cancer types. This study aims to explore the impact of mefloquine on nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC). We found that mefloquine, at pharmacologically achievable concentrations, displayed anti-NPC activity while sparing normal counterparts. Mefloquine inhibits proliferation and induces death by reducing the levels of Cyclin A2, Bcl-2, and Bcl-xL. Intriguingly, we observed an increase in the levels of the anti-apoptotic protein Mcl-1. Mefloquine exerts its effects on NPC cells by inducing lysosomal-mediated ROS production, and the heightened expression of Mcl-1 is a consequence of ROS generation in mefloquine-treated NPC cells. The combination of an Mcl-1 inhibitor with mefloquine synergistically inhibits NPC growth in mice without causing substantial toxicity. These findings demonstrate the effectiveness and limited toxicity of mefloquine as a monotherapy and in combination with an Mcl-1 inhibitor. Our research underscores the promise of the mefloquine and Mcl-1 inhibitor combination as a potential treatment for NPC. Additionally, the elevation of Mcl-1 is a compensatory response in cells exposed to oxidative stress, offering a potential target to overcome resistance induced by pro-oxidant therapies. Background: Metabolic syndrome (MS) is considered a challenging health problem worldwide. However, the search for alternative treatments to alleviate MS is lacking. Purpose: This study defines Silybum marianum (milk thistle) ethanol seed extract (SMESE) in terms of polyphenol and flavonoid content, antiglycation effect, α-amylase activity, and hypolipidemic and hypoglycemic effects in streptozotocin (STZ)-induced diabetic rats. Materials and Methods: S. marianum seeds were collected, ground, and extracted with 80% ethanol. The α-amylase inhibitory activities of 10, 30, and 100 µg/mL SMESE were evaluated using spectrophotometric methods. The inhibitory activity of SMESE against advanced glycation end-product formation was evaluated using fluorescence spectrophotometry. In vivo, 48 Wistar male albino rats were used. Eight animals served as the normal control (group 1), and 40 rats were injected with 60 mg/kg STZ to induce diabetes. Diabetic rats were divided into five groups: diabetic control (group 2) and positive control that received the hypoglycemic reference drug metformin at 100 mg/kg (group 3). Groups 4, 5, and 6 were administered the seed extract orally at 30, 100, and 300 mg/kg, respectively. Body weight, serum glucose, lipid profile, and malondialdehyde (MDA) levels were measured weekly for five weeks after SMESE administration. Results: SMESE administration inhibited BSA glycation and α-amylase activity. In vivo, SMESE administration increased body weight (BW), decreased serum glucose levels, and reduced triglyceride, total cholesterol, low-density lipoprotein, very low-density lipoprotein, and MDA levels but increased high-density lipoprotein levels. Conclusion: Data indicate the beneficial hypoglycemic and antihyperlipidemic effects of SMESE, suggesting its potential use in controlling lipid metabolism. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This research was undertaken to determine expression patterns of vacuolar processing enzyme (VPE) genes in four apple (Malus domestica (Suckow) Borkh) cultivars 'Royal Gala (RG)', 'Golden Delicious (GD)', 'Ralls Janet (RJ)' and 'Fuji (FJ)' during ripening. The results showed that GD and RG had higher respiration rate, ethylene production, content of malondialdehyde (MDA), relative electrical conductivity (REC) and VPE activity than RJ and FJ during ripening. A total of 17 MdVPEs were found to be expressed in four cultivars. These MdVPEs exhibited different expression patterns during ripening of four cultivars. Generally, MdVPEβ1, MdVPEγ2, MdVPEγ4 and MdVPEδ7 might be closely associated with ripening of all cultivars. MdVPEα6 might have a role in the early period of ripening of ACS1–2/-2 (1-Aminocyclopropane-1-carboxylate synthase) homozygous cultivars (RG, RJ and FJ). Drought is a prominent abiotic stress that is exacerbated by climate change. The application of plant growth regulators (PGRs) and plant growth-promoting rhizobacteria (PGPR) has been considered an effective approach to mitigate adverse effects of drought stress. This study aimed to evaluate the effect of paclobutrazol (PBZ) and three rhizobacterial strains on various physiological parameters of wheat under drought stress. Experimental treatments consisted of three irrigation levels as the first main plot, and PBZ application at three levels as the second main plot. Furthermore, PGPR was applied at five levels as subplot. Results revealed that drought stress decreased relative water content (34%), chlorophyll fluorescence parameters, water use efficiency (WUE) (49%), Rubisco activity (40%), and increased antioxidant enzymes and malondialdehyde (52%), whereas PBZ treatment increased relative water content (RWC) (44%), and grain yield (WUEgy) (14%) compared to control treatment. Furthermore, the PGPR combination improved florescence parameters (by an average of 27%), catalase (34%), superoxide dismutase (22%), and nitrate reductase (34%) compared with control treatment. Moreover, grain yield correlated positively and significantly with chlorophyll content, and Rubisco and nitrate reductase activity, while it negatively correlated with malondialdehyde. In light of these findings, it is evident that a combination of PBZ and PGPR treatments emerges as a highly recommended approach for mitigating the adverse effects of water deficits, especially in the context of escalating climate change challenges. Undergraduate students are frequently afflicted by major depressive disorder (MDD). Oxidative and nitrosative stress (O&NS) has been implicated in the pathophysiology of MDD. There is no information regarding whether mild outpatient MDD (SDMD) and first episode SDMD (FE-SDMD) are accompanied by O&NS. The current study compared lipid hydroperoxides (LOOH), malondialdehyde (MDA), advanced protein oxidation products, nitric oxide metabolites (NOx), thiol groups, plasma total antioxidant potential (TRAP), and paraoxonase 1 activities among SDMD and FE-SDMD patients versus healthy controls. We found that SDMD and FE-SDMD exhibit elevated MDA and NOx, and decreased TRAP and LOOH as compared with controls. There was a significant and positive correlation between O&NS biomarkers and adverse childhood experiences (ACEs), and negative life events (NLEs). O&NS pathways, NLEs and ACEs accounted for 51.7 % of the variance in the phenome of depression, and O&NS and NLS explained 42.9 % of the variance in brooding. Overall, these results indicate that SDMD and FE-SDMD are characterized by reduced total antioxidant defenses and increased aldehyde and NOx production. In this study, Fusarium equiseti was isolated from the weed plant Tridax procumbens in an agricultural field and a crude extract produced with 75% ethanol for use as active ingredient material in natural herbicides. The herbicidal effect of F. equiseti extract was tested on water hyacinth (Eichornia crassipes), an invasive aquatic weed, by leaf disk assay at concentrations of 0.05%, 0.1%, and 0.2% w/v crude extract. Dose-dependent visual toxicity symptoms were evident after three days, namely chlorosis, yellow leaves surrounded by dark brown edges. Photosynthetic pigments (chlorophyll a, b, and carotenoids) and membrane integrity (as electrolyte leakage and malondialdehyde content) were evaluated following the leaf disk test. 3 days after treatment, photosynthetic pigment contents showed dose-dependent decreases, while both measures of membrane integrity showed dose-dependent increases with increasing extract concentration. In addition, a cytogenetic assay was conducted on Allium cepa L. root, in which mitotic index reduction and depigmentation were evident as early as 24 h after herbicide application. Finally, anatomical analysis of treated E. crassipes leaves revealed degradation or damage of the ground tissue. Current treatments for rheumatoid arthritis produce untoward effects; thus, considerable effort has been made to recognize effective herbal medicines against the condition. In the present study, the therapeutic effect of Diospyros kaki fruit hydroalcoholic extract (DFHE) on complete Freund's adjuvant (CFA)‐induced arthritis in rats was investigated. The extract was characterized using liquid chromatography–electrospray mass spectrometry (LC‐ESIMS). Male Wistar rats were grouped as follows (eight rats in each): control, CFA, CFA + indomethacin (5 mg/kg), CFA + DFHE (50 mg/kg), and CFA + DFHE (100 mg/kg). Paw volume, mechanical allodynia, thermal hyperalgesia, and arthritis score were evaluated. Serum levels of malondialdehyde (MDA), thiol groups, tumor necrosis factor‐alpha (TNF‐α), as well as glutathione peroxidase (GPx) and superoxide dismutase (SOD) activities were evaluated. Carotenoids were found to be the major components of DFHE. Administration of DFHE (100 mg/kg) significantly decreased arthritis score, paw volume, and thermal hyperalgesia, and improved mechanical allodynia. MDA and TNF‐α levels were decreased while thiol levels and SOD and GPx activities were increased in DFHE‐treated groups compared to the CFA group. These results suggest that D. kaki extract caused an improvement in clinical signs of rheumatoid arthritis symptoms possibly through suppression of oxidative stress and inflammation. Background: A well-recognized connection was found between oxidative stress and rheumatoid arthritis (RA). Since autoimmune illness, as RA is typified by persistent systemic inflammation, oxidative stress indicators offer a promising extra option for evaluating the activity and prognosis of RA. Aim: To assess serum malondialdehyde (MDA) level as a marker of oxidative stress in RA patients concerning disease activity. Results: This case–control study revealed a statistically significant increase among the patient group than the control group regarding serum MDA. MDA positively correlated with ESR, CRP, DAS-28 score, and morning stiffness. The optimal cut-off point of serum MDA recognized patient group was > 16.21 nmol/ml with a sensitivity of 100% and specificity of 100.0%. Aim: The aim of the present study is to show how sodium nitrite alters the histology of submandibular salivary glands and livers of Albino rats, as well as how chlorogenic acid may have therapeutic benefits. Methods: A sample size of thirty male Sprague Dawley Albino rats weighing between 100 and 150 g (5-6 weeks old) was randomly allocated into 3 equal groups. Group I: rats were used as controls and were given phosphate buffer solution, whereas Group II: rats were given an 80 mg/kg sodium nitrites (SN) daily dissolved in distilled water. The rats in Group III were given a daily dose of 80 mg/kg SN dissolved in distilled water and after 6 hours each rat received 50 mg/mL freshly prepared chlorogenic acid (CGA) every other day. For 12 weeks, all treatment modalities will be administered orally, every day. After the experiment, all rats were euthanized. Samples from salivary glands and livers were processed and stained with H&E and interleukin 6 (IL 6). Malondialdehyde (MDA) and superoxide dismutase (SOD) enzymes were detected using an ELISA assay. Results: Groups III had nearly comparable findings to Group I regarding histological pattern with normal submandibular glands and livers features. Group III salivary gland treated with CGA exhibited higher SOD levels (20.60±4.81 U/g) in comparison to the SN group, and lower MDA levels (111.58±28.28 nmol/mg) in comparison to the SN treated samples. In comparison to the SN group, CGA treatment significantly reduced MDA levels in liver samples (167.56±21.17 nmol/mg) and raised SOD (30.85±6.77 U/g). Conclusions: Chlorogenic acid has a protective effect against salivary gland and liver toxicity induced by SN in rats. This was mediated via the anti-inflammatory and antioxidative properties of CGA and the restoration of oxidant/antioxidant balance in rat salivary gland and liver. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Introduction: Oral submucous fibrosis (OSMF) is a chronic, mild, possibly malignant condition (OPMD) that primarily affects South Asian people, affecting the oral cavity and oropharynx. Clinically, trismus, restricted tongue protrusion, burning mouth, marble-like oral mucosa appearance, xerostomia, recurrent ulceration, atrophy of the tongue papillae, and palpable fibrous bands are among the symptoms and indicators of OSMF. The present study was undertaken to determine the salivary levels of oxidative stress biomarkers malondialdehyde, 8-hydroxy-2-deoxyguanosine and 8-isoprostane levels and antioxidants glutathione peroxidase and superoxide dismutase in patients with different grades of OSMF. Methodology: The observational cross-sectional study was conducted in the department of Biochemistry NIMS&R, Jaipur in association with Oral Diagnosis and Radiology at College of Dental Sciences and Research Centre, Manipur, Ahmedabad (Gujarat) after obtaining institutional ethical committee clearance. The Study population consisted of Clinically diagnosed oral submucous fibrosis patients of age 18-45 years. Unstimulated Saliva was allowed to accumulate in the floor Of mouth and collected by drooling method in a test tube. Saliva samples will be stored at -20 °C until use. Malondialdehyde was estimated by thiobarbituric acid reaction using spectrophotometer, 8-hydroxy-2-deoxyguanosine was analysed by sandwich ELISA, Glutathione peroxidase and Superoxide dismutase were analysed by spectrophotometer and 8-Isoprostane was estimated by ELISA. Results: The present study included a total of 92 patients clinically diagnosed with oral submucosal fibrosis. It is seen that out of 92 patients, 53 were males and 39 were females accounting for 57.6% and 42.39% respectively. The mean age in years in males and females were 28.97±5.80 and 32.39±3.77 years respectively. The mean levels of oxidative stress markers were significantly increased and antioxidant levels were significantly decreased as OSMF advances. Pairwise comparison of mean values of salivary oxidative stress and antioxidant biomarkers were performed using post hoc analysis by Tukey test. Table 4 displays an almost highly significant (P<0.001) difference between the mean values of all the salivary biomarkers when compared pairwise. However, a significant difference (P=0.001) was found between Grade 2 vs Grade 3 for 8-Isoprostane. The mean difference between pair Grade 3 vs Grade 4 was found to be not significant for salivary Glutathione Peroxidise and salivary 8- isoprostane having P values of 0.52 and 0.41, respectively. Conclusion: The results of our study showed that the concentration of MDA, isoprostane, 8- Hydroxydeoxy-guanosine levels were increased significantly as the clinical stage and histopathological grade of OSMF advances suggesting these biomarkers can be used as a reliable biochemical marker and also a prognostic marker to assess the extent of oxidative damage in OSMF. The concentration of antioxidant enzymes showed progressive decline as OSMF advances, indicating the potential role of supplementation of antioxidants in these patients to decrease the progression of the disease. Background and Objectives: In biological studies, low dose gamma radiation has been used as a stimulus to high dose as an inhibitor. Gamma ray is a physical mutagen. Cold and frost are limiting factors for pomegranate cultivation in many parts of the world, including Iran. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of gamma radiation on the physiological and biochemical characteristics of pomegranate leaves after exposure to gamma radiation and its relationship with tolerance to spring cold stress. Materials and Methods: The latent buds on one-year-old branches of Meles Saveh pomegranate were subjected to gamma radiation with a dose of 36 Gy from the cobalt 60 source. After that, the irradiated shoots were kept in the vault for almost one year and these mutant plants were used for vegetative propagation and production of second generation vegetative plants (mV2). In the winter of the following year, mV2 mutant clones were transferred to the main garden in Saveh. After a four-year growth period, all trees entered the flowering stage. The plants in the fifth growing season (mV5) were selected based on their resistance to winter cold and diseases visually (based on the percentage of dry shoots and browning of branches). 18 genotypes were selected from mV5 generation. One-year-old branches were harvested from the middle of each tree in April 1401 and kept on ice to be analyzed in the laboratory for physiological and biochemical traits such as frost tolerance, malondialdehyde, proline, soluble carbohydrates, total phenol, Antioxidant capacity and photosynthetic pigments should be used. Results: The results of variance analysis of the data showed that there was a significant difference in the freezing tolerance of pomegranate mutant clones. Among the mutant clones, the highest and lowest freezing tolerance was observed in mutants 6 and 3, respectively. The highest amount of proline was observed in mutant 4, while the lowest amount was assigned to mutants 9, 2, 7, 10 and control. Among the mutant clones, mutants 1, 4, 13 and 18 had the highest leaf soluble carbohydrate content, while the lowest was found in mutant 9. The highest content of total phenol was observed in mutants 1, 4, 6, 13, 16, 17 and 18 and the lowest in control. The highest antioxidant capacity was related to mutants 4, 6, 13 and 18, while the lowest was found in control and mutants 2, 3 and 9. The results showed that the lowest and highest amount of malondialdehyde was related to mutants 13 and 2, respectively. Comparing the average data of photosynthetic pigments showed that the highest amount of chlorophyll a and carotenoid was observed in mutant 18 and the highest amount of chlorophyll b and total chlorophyll was observed in mutants 4, 6 and 18. There was a negative and significant correlation between LT50 and proline, soluble carbohydrates, total phenol, antioxidant capacity and photosynthetic leaf pigments, while a significant positive correlation was observed between LT50 and malondialdehyde. In general, gamma irradiation increased membrane lipid peroxidation and electrolyte leakage and decreased membrane stability. Although some pomegranate mutants were able to protect cell membranes against oxidative damage caused by gamma irradiation by increasing the concentration of osmolytes (such as carbohydrates and proline) and phenolic compounds, and thus increased cold tolerance. Conclusion: Irradiation of plant buds is an effective method to improve plant varieties. Pomegranate mutant clones 6, 4, 13 and 18 had significantly more proline, soluble carbohydrates, total phenol, antioxidant capacity and photosynthetic pigments and less malondialdehyde and as a result more cold-tolerance than the control. Ischemic stroke involves various pathological processes, among which ferroptosis is crucial. Previous studies by our group have indicated that electroacupuncture (EA) mitigates ferroptosis after ischemic stroke; however, the precise mechanism underlying this effect remains unclear. In the present study, we developed a rat model of middle cerebral artery occlusion/reperfusion. We chose the main acupoint of the treatment methods of the "Awakening and Opening of the Brain". Rats' neurological function and motor coordination were evaluated by neurological function score and the rotarod test, respectively, and the volume of cerebral infarction was analyzed by 2,3,5-triphenyltetrazolium chloride Staining. The cerebrovascular conditions were visualized by time-of-flight magentic resonance angiography. In addition, we detected changes in lipid peroxidation and endogenous antioxidant activity by measuring the malondialdehyde, glutathione, superoxide dismutase activities, glutathione/oxidized glutathione and reduced nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide phosphate/oxidized nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide phosphate ratios. Inductively coupled plasma-mass spectrometry, western blot, reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction, fluoro-jade B staining, immunofluorescence analysis, and transmission electron microscopy were utilized to examine the influence of EA. The results indicate that EA treatment was effective in reversing neurological impairment, neuronal damage, and protecting mitochondrial morphology and decreasing the cerebral infarct volume in the middle cerebral artery occlusion/reperfusion rat model. EA reduced iron levels, inhibited lipid peroxidation, increased endogenous antioxidant activity, modulated the expression of several ferroptosis-related proteins, and promoted nuclear factor-E2-related factor 2 (Nrf2) nuclear translocation. However, the protective effect of EA was hindered by the Nrf2 inhibitor ML385. These findings suggest that EA can suppress ferroptosis and decrease damage caused by cerebral ischemia/reperfusion by activating Nrf2 and increasing the protein expression of solute carrier family 7 member 11 and glutathione peroxidase 4. Aim: The aim of this study is the evaluation effect of nanoliposome-loaded Mito-Tempo on sperm parameters during human sperm cryopreservation. Methods: Semen samples of 50 Asthenoteratozoospermia men (random) were collected. Sperm parameters were analyzed based on World Health Organization (WHO, 2010) criteria (2021) and each sample was divided into 5 groups (E1–E5). E1 (control group): the sperm was cryopreserved without nanoliposome, and Mito-Tempo. E2: sperm cryopreservation with Mito-Tempo-loaded nanoliposome (Mito-Tempo 0.1 mM) + freezing medium. E3: sperm cryopreservation with Mito-Tempo-loaded nanoliposome (Mito-Tempo 0.2 mM) + freezing medium. E4: in this group, the cryopreservation sperm with Mito-Tempo 0.3 mM + freezing medium. E5: the cryopreservation sperm with Mito-Tempo 0.2 mM + freezing medium. Results: The result of this study indicated that sperm parameters and total antioxidant capacity (TAC) significantly increase in E3 and E4 groups, compared to E1, E2, and E5 groups respectively (P < 0.05). The percentage of abnormal morphology, DNA fragmentation index (DFI), malondialdehyde (MDA), and the levels of ROS significantly decrease in E3 and E4 groups, compared to E1, E2, and E5 groups (P < 0.05). In addition, the sperm parameters and stress oxidative factors significantly improve in E3 group compared to other groups (P < 0.05). Conclusions: In conclusion, the combination of Mito-Tempo with nanoliposome due to its ability to cooperate with lipid layers may lead to significant performance in reducing oxidative stress damage and increasing the quality of sperm parameters. Human-induced noise, particularly from shipping and construction, significantly affects the stress responses of swimming crabs (Portunus trituberculatus (Miers, 1876)). Prolonged exposure can lead to stress responses, impacting the overall health of the crabs. This study aimed to assess how noise affects stress responses in P. trituberculatus. The sound had an intensity of 163 dB 1 µPa for the noise condition and 114 dB 1 µPa for ambient sound. Portunus trituberculatus was continuously exposed to the noise stimulus for 6 h. Samples of serum, muscle tissue, gills, and hepatopancreas were collected at multiple time points: 0 min, 10 min, 30 min, 1 h, 3 h, 6 h, and 7 h. The serum cortisol levels in the noise-exposed group were significantly higher than those in the control group at 30 min and 6 h. The two groups had no significant differences regarding serum glucose and muscle lactic acid content. In the noise-exposed group, the gills exhibited significantly lower superoxide dismutase (SOD) levels. Conversely, for the hepatopancreas, the SOD levels in the noise-exposed group were notably lower than those in the control group at 10 min but significantly higher at 6 and 7 h. Malondialdehyde (MDA) levels were substantially higher in the noise-exposed group than in the control group at 30 min and 6 h. Subclinical mastitis (SCM) has a detrimental impact on cow's milk characteristics. The study was to investigate the consequences of SCM on milk composition and blood biochemistry, oxidative stress biomarkers, and the correlation between different milk and serum parameters in SCM-affected cows. The multiparous Holstein cows were grouped as 16 subclinical infected and nine healthy according to milk somatic cell count and California Mastitis Test scores. The blood and milk samples were gathered from each animal and evaluated for compositional, biochemical, and oxidative stress marker alterations. SCM-affected milk samples showed a significant (P < 0.05) decrease in fat, protein, lactose, total solids, solids-non-fat percentages, and total antioxidant capacity (TAC) and a significant (P < 0.05) increase in ash %, catalase, and malondialdehyde (MDA). Milk somatic cell count showed a positive correlation with MDA and catalase. Milk fat showed a positive correlation with lactose, total protein, and albumin. A significant increase in catalase and total protein associated with a significant decrease in Ca level was recorded in SCM blood samples. The results indicate that a significant correlation between different parameters in blood and milk can be useful as a proper clinical indicator for the early detection of SCM in cows. Photodynamic inactivation (PDI) is a technique to inhibit microbial biofilm growth through the toxicity of Reactive Oxygen Species (ROS) compounds. ROS can be attack membrane, lipids, DNA and nucleic acid then initiate cell necrosis. This study aims to analyze the potential of red and blue LEDs to activating silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) to produce significant amounts of ROS that are believed to be toxic and lethal to Candida albicans biofilm cells. The effectiveness of the treatment in this study was evaluated through cell viability represented by Optical Density values and malondialdehyde levels. There were 4 treatment groups used as samples, namely the control group, the photosensitizer group, the light group, and the combination group of light with photosensitizer. The duration of light exposure ranged from 2 to 10 min with a power of 100 MW. The biofilm staining done to detection some indicator as an impact of photodynamic against mortality and survive cell with 2 dyes are XTT assay as cell viability values and the Thiobarbituric Acid Reactive Substances assay for malondialdehyde levels. The results showed that photoinactivation of Candida albicans biofilm with the lowest viability occurred in the treatment group of the combination of blue light with AgNPs with an irradiation duration of 10 min, namely 0.076 ± 0.005 and the treatment group of the combination of red light with AgNPs with an irradiation duration of 10 min, namely 0.131 ± 0.021. The data resulted in an inactivation rate of 94.68 ± 0.55 % for blue light and 90.98 ± 0.02 % for red light. The malondialdehyde levels were 1.563 nmol/mL for blue light and 1.514 nmol/mL for red light. The comparison of blue light treatment with red light is based on penetration in the cell, where blue light has low penetration but high energy which gives more opportunities to produce ROS at the triplet level. The combination of blue LED spectrum with AgNPs is highly effective in inactivating the metabolic activity of pathogenic microbial cells. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Heat stress (HS) disrupts testicular homeostasis because of oxidative stress. N‐acetylcysteine (NAC) is a thiol compound with antioxidants, anti‐inflammatory and anti‐apoptotic properties. As a sequel, this research aimed to assess the ameliorative effects of NAC supplementation on the reproductive performance of goat bucks kept under environmental HS. Primarily, Doppler examination as well as semen collection and evaluation were conducted on 12 mature bucks for 2 weeks (W) as pre‐heat stress control (W1 and W2) during winter (February 2023). The temperature–humidity index (THI) was 63.4–64.3 (winter season). Then during summer HS conditions (from the beginning of July till the end of August 2023) bucks were assessed before NAC supplementation (W0), afterwards they were arbitrarily assigned into two groups. The control group (CON; n = 6) received the basal diet while the NAC group (n = 6) received the basal diet in addition to oral NAC daily for 7 weeks (W1–W7). The THI was 78.1–81.6 (summer season). Testicular blood flow parameters, serum concentration of nitric oxide (NO) and testosterone were measured. Additionally, total antioxidant capacity (TAC) and malondialdehyde (MDA) content in seminal plasma and semen quality parameters were evaluated. There were marked reductions (p < 0.05) in the resistive index (RI; W1, W4 and W5), pulsatility index (PI; W2 and W4–W7), and systolic/diastolic ratio (S/D; W4–W7) in the NAC group compared to the CON group. Furthermore, testosterone and NO levels were higher (p < 0.01 and p < 0.05, respectively) in the NAC group (W2, W3, W5 and W3–W5, respectively). Seminal plasma TAC increased (p < 0.05) and MDA decreased (p < 0.05) in the NAC group (W2, W4 and W5) compared to the CON group. Moreover, there were marked improvements (p < 0.05) in semen quality parameters (mass motility, total motility, viability and normal morphology) in the NAC group. In conclusion, oral NAC supplementation could be used to enhance the reproductive performance of goat bucks during HS conditions which is supported by remarkable enhancement in testicular haemodynamics, NO, testosterone levels and semen quality parameters. Objective To investigate the effects of hyperbaric oxygen combined with ulinastatin on choline acetyltransferase (ChAT), malondialdehyde (MDA), and myocardial function in rats with acute organophosphorus pesticide poisoning. Methods 50 specific-pathogen-free (SPF) male SD rats were randomly divided into five groups of ten each: normal group (N), model group (M), hyperbaric oxygen group (H), and ulinastatin group (U), and hyperbaric oxygen combined ulinastatin (O) group. The model of acute organophosphorus pesticide poisoning was established in the M, H, U, and O groups via cumulative subcutaneous injections on the neck back, and the N group did not set up the model. After the success of the modeling, the H group was treated with hyperbaric oxygen therapy, and the U group was intraperitoneally injected with ulinastatin at a dose of 100 000 U/kg.The O group received a combination of hyperbaric oxygen and ulinastatin treatment, whereas the N and M groups were gavaged with an equivalent volume of saline. The rats' myocardial function was assessed through cardiac echocardiography, brain tissue pathology was examined using hematoxylin and eosin (HE) staining and Nissl staining, cardiomyocyte apoptosis was evaluated by TUNEL assay, and ChAT and acetylcholine (Ach) content in rat brain tissues were determined through histochemical methods. Serum levels of MDA and superoxide dismutase (SOD) were measured using the thiobarbituric acid reactive substances (TBARS) assay. Statistical analysis was performed by SPSS 22.0. Results Compared with Group N, the left ventricular end systolic dimension (LVSD) and left ventricular end diastolic dimension (LVDD) in Group M were both enlarged, with increased interventricular septum (IVS) thickness, aggravated left ventricular strain (LVS), increased number of apoptotic cardiomyocytes, and elevated Ach and MDA levels (P<0.05). Additionally, the left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF) decreased, while ChAT and SOD levels also decreased (P<0.05). When compared to Group M, both Groups H and U exhibited reduced LVSD and LVDD, thinner IVS, decreased LVS, and fewer apoptotic cardiomyocytes. Furthermore, Ach and MDA levels were lower (P<0.05), while LVEF, ChAT, and SOD levels were higher (P<0.05). No statistically significant difference was observed between Groups U and H (P>0.05), while Group O showed more pronounced changes compared to Group U (P<0.05). Rats in Group N exhibited normal brain tissue pathological morphology, while those in Group M suffered severe damage to brain tissue structure. Objective To investigate the effects of Haihuang Bufei Formula on inflammatory factors and T lymphocyte subsets in silicotic rats, and to further explore the therapeutic effects of Haihuang Bufei Formula. Methods The silicotic rat models were constructed by intratracheal instillation of silicon dioxide (SiO2) suspension. After 24 hours of modeling, the rats were randomly divided into normal control group, model group, positive drug control group, and low, medium, high dose group of Haihuang Bufei Formula. Each group contained 10 rats, which were administered once daily for one month. One hour after the last administration, the rats were sacrificed. Lung index, serum tumor necrosis factor α (TNF-α), interleukin 1β (IL-1β), hydroxyproline (HYP), superoxide dismutase (SOD), and malondialdehyde (MDA) contents in lung tissue were measured. Hematoxylin-eosin (HE) and Masson staining methods were used to observe the pathological changes in lung tissues. Flow cytometry was used to detect the T lymphocyte subsets in the peripheral blood of rats. Results Compared with the model group, the lung index, serum IL-1β, lung tissue HYP, and MDA contents in the middle and high dose groups of Haihuang Bufei Formula treatment were significantly reduced (P<0.05). In the high-dose group, the serum TNF-α content decreased to (238.64±51.80) ng/L, and the lung tissue SOD content increased to (55.30±13.77) pg/mL (P<0.05). HE and Masson's staining results indicated that the medium and high doses of Haihuang Bufei Formula could alleviate pathological damage of silicosis and fibrosis in lung tissue. Flow cytometer analysis showed that the percentage of CD8+T cells in the high-dose group of Haihuang Bufei Formula was significantly decreased (P<0.05). The ratio of CD4+/CD8+ increased to (1.44±0.19) (P<0.01), and the percentage of CD4+T cells showed no statistically significant change among groups (P>0.05). Conclusions Haihuang Bufei Formula has a protective effect on silicotic rats by reducing collagen content, alleviating pathological damage and fibrosis of lung tissue, which may be related to inhibiting the expression of inflammatory factors, reducing oxidative stress, and regulating the immune system. Background: This study aimed to investigate the impact of reductions in various body mass components on the erythrocyte oxidative status and glycemic state of people with obesity (PWO). Methods: A total of 53 PWO followed a six-month individualized low-calorie diet with exercise, during which anthropometric, biochemical, and oxidative parameters were measured. The participants were divided into groups based on weight (W), visceral fat area (VFA), total body water (TBW), and skeletal muscle mass (SMM) losses, as well as normoglycemia (NG) and hyperglycemia (HG). Results: Weight reduction normalized glycemia and influenced erythrocyte enzyme activity. Regardless of the tissue type lost (VFA, TBW, or SMM), glutathione peroxidase activity decreased in all groups, accompanied by an increase in glutathione reductase activity. Lipofuscin (LPS) and malondialdehyde (MDA) concentrations decreased regardless of the type of tissue lost. The α-/γ-tocopherol ratio increased in those losing >10% body weight, >15% VFA, and >5% TBW. In the NG group, compared to the HG group, there was a decrease in glutathione peroxidase and an increase in glutathione reductase, with these changes being stronger in the HG group. The LPS and MDA concentrations decreased in both groups. Significant correlations were observed between glucose reduction and changes in catalase, retinol, and α-tocopherol, as well as between VFA reduction and changes in vitamin E, L-LPS, and the activities of L-GR and L-GST. Conclusions: This analysis highlights the complex interactions between glucose metabolism, oxidative state, and erythrocyte membrane integrity, crucial for understanding diabetes and its management. This study shows the significant metabolic adaptability of erythrocytes in response to systemic changes induced by obesity and hyperglycemia, suggesting potential therapeutic targets to improve metabolic health in obese individuals. Cholinesterase inhibitors (ChEIs) insecticide poisoning is a serious global health concern that results in hundreds of thousands of fatalities each year. Although inhibition of the cholinesterase enzyme is the main mechanism of ChEI poisoning, oxidative stress is considered the mechanism underlying the related complications. The study aimed to assess the oxidative status of the patients with ChEI insecticide poisoning and the role of L-carnitine as adjuvant therapy in their management. Human studies on the efficacy and safety of L-carnitine in treating insecticide poisoning are limited despite its growing research interest as a safe antioxidant. This prospective study was conducted on eighty patients with acute ChEIs insecticide poisoning admitted to Alexandria Poison Center, Alexandria Main University Hospital, Egypt. Patients were allocated into two equal groups randomly. The L-carnitine (LC) group received the conventional treatment (atropine & toxogonin) and LC and the standard treatment (ST) group received the standard treatment only. Outcome measures were fatality rate, the total administered dose of atropine & toxogonin, length of hospital stay, and the requirement for ICU admission or mechanical ventilation. The study results revealed that malondialdehyde (MDA) significantly decreased in the LC group. Cholinesterase enzyme levels increased significantly after treatment in the LC group than in the ST group. The LC group needed lower dosages of atropine and toxogonin than the ST group. Also, the LC group showed no need for ICU admission or mechanical ventilation. Background: In cardiovascular disease, high blood pressure is associated with oxidative stress, promoting endothelial dysfunction, vascular remodeling, and inflammation. Clinical trials are discordant that the most effective treatment in the management of hypertension seems to be the administration of anti-hypertensive drugs with antioxidant properties. The study aims to evaluate the effects of the eutomer of thioctic acid on oxidative stress and inflammation in the heart of spontaneously hypertensive rats compared to normotensive Wistar Kyoto rats. Methods: To study the oxidative status, the malondialdehyde and 4-hydroxynonenal concentration, protein oxidation were measured in the heart. Morphological analysis were performed. Immunohistochemistry and Western blot were done for alpha-smooth muscle actin and transforming growth factor beta to assess fibrosis; cytokines and nuclear factor kappaB to assess inflammatory processes. Results: Spontaneously hypertensive rats were characterized by hypertension with increased malondialdehyde levels in the heart. OxyBlot in the heart of spontaneously hypertensive rats showed an increase in proteins' oxidative status. Cardiomyocyte hypertrophy and fibrosis in the ventricles were associated with an increased expression of alpha-smooth muscle actin and pro-inflammatory cytokines, reduced by the eutomer of thioctic acid supplementation. Conclusions: Based on this evidence, eutomer of thioctic acid could represent an appropriate antioxidant molecule to reduce oxidative stress and prevent inflammatory processes on the cardiomyocytes and cardiac vascular endothelium. Background: Huntington's disease (HD) is an extremely harmful autosomal inherited neurodegenerative disease. Motor dysfunction, mental disorder, and cognitive deficits are the characteristic features of this disease. The current study examined whether 6-shogaol has a protective effect against 3-Nitropropionic Acid (3-NPA)-induced HD in rats. Methods: A total of thirty male Wistar rats received 6-shogaol (10 and 20 mg/kg, per oral) an hour before injection of 3-NPA (10 mg/kg i.p.) for 15 days. Behavioral tests were performed, including narrow beam walk, rotarod test, and grip strength test. Biochemical tests promoting oxidative stress were evaluated [superoxide dismutase (SOD), reduced glutathione (GSH), catalase (CAT) and malondialdehyde (MDA)], including changes to neurotransmitters serotonin (5-HT), dopamine (DA), norepinephrine (NE), homovanillic acid (HVA), (3,4-dihydroxyphenylacetic acid (DOPAC), γ-aminobutyric acid (GABA), and 5-hydroxy indole acetic acid (5-HIAA), nuclear factor kappa-B (NF-κB), tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α), interleukins-1β (IL-1β), IL-6, brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF), and nuclear factor erythroid 2-related factor 2 (Nrf2). The 6-shogaol was docked to the active site of TNF-α (2AZ5), NF-κB (1SVC), BDNF) [1B8M], and Nrf2 [5FZN] proteins using AutoDock tools. Results: The 6-shogaol group significantly improved behavioral activity over the 3-NPA-injected control rats. Moreover, 3-NPA-induced significantly altered neurotransmitters, biochemical and neuroinflammatory indices, which could efficiently be reversed by 6-shogaol. The 6-shogaol showed favorable negative binding energies at -9.271 (BDNF) kcal/mol. Conclusions: The present investigation demonstrated the neuroprotective effects of 6-shogaol in an experimental animal paradigm against 3-NPA-induced HD in rats. Synthesized selenium nanoparticles (SeNPs) were characterized with a diameter range minimal than 100 nm, having the effective sets of the biological matter. The present study aimed to evaluate the effect of biosynthesized SeNPs, prepared by leek extract on Wistar rats' testicles and brain.Thirty‐five Wistar male rats (120–150 g) were randomly split into five groups (n = 7), orally ingested with leek aqueous extract loaded on SeNPs, and then the animals were administered with mercury II chloride (HgCl2) to induce testis injury and damage the nervous system.The used dose of mercuric chloride led to oxidative stress damage in the testis of the rats which was evidenced by a decrease in testosterone, luteinizing hormone (LH), follicle‐stimulating hormone (FSH) and proliferating cell nuclear antigen (PCNA) levels, and an increase in nuclear factor‐kappa B (NF‐κB) and caspase‐3. Also, HgCl2 decreased the levels of dopamine (DA), serotonin (5‐HT), norepinephrine (NE) and brain‐derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) in the brains of rats. In addition, A decrease was observed in the levels of antioxidant markers, B‐cell lymphoma‐2 (Bcl‐2), as well as an increase in malondialdehyde (MDA), nitric oxide (NO), NF‐κB, tumor necrosis factor (TNF)‐α, interleukin (IL)‐1β and Bax in both testes and brains. Pre‐treatment with leek extract loaded on SeNPs significantly ameliorated testosterone, LH, FSH, PCNA and caspase‐3 levels in the testis and DA, 5‐HT, NE and BDNF in brains. Nitric oxide (NO) is a multifunctional signalling molecule involved in the regulation of plant ontogenesis and adaptation to different adverse environmental factors, in particular to osmotic stress. Understanding NO-induced plant protection is important for the improvement of plant stress tolerance and crop productivity under global climate changes. The root system is crucial for plant survival in a changeable environment. Damages that it experiences under water deficit conditions during the initial developmental periods seriously affect the viability of the plants. This work was devoted to the comparative analysis of the pretreatment of wheat seedlings through the root system with NO donor sodium nitroprusside (SNP) for 24 h on various parameters of redox homeostasis under exposure to osmotic stress (PEG 6000, 12%) over 0.5–24 h. The active and exhausted solutions of SNP, termed as (SNP/+NO) and (SNP/−NO), respectively, were used in this work at a concentration of 2 × 10−4 M. Using biochemistry and light microscopy methods, it has been revealed that osmotic stress caused oxidative damages and the disruption of membrane cell structures in wheat roots. PEG exposure increased the production of superoxide (O2•−), hydrogen peroxide (H2O2), malondialdehyde (MDA), and the levels of electrolyte leakage (EL) and lipid peroxidation (LPO). Stress treatment enhanced the activities of superoxide dismutase (SOD), ascorbate peroxidase (APX), catalase (CAT), the excretion of proline, and the rate of cell death and inhibited their division. Pretreatment with (SNP/+NO) decreased PEG-induced root damages by differently regulating the antioxidant enzymes under stress conditions. Thus, (SNP/+NO) pretreatment led to SOD, APX, and CAT inhibition during the first 4 h of stress and stimulated their activity after 24 h of PEG exposure when compared to SNP-untreated or (SNP/−NO)-pretreated and stress-subjected plants. Osmotic stress triggered the intense excretion of proline by roots into the external medium. Pretreatment with (SNP/+NO) in contrast with (SNP/−NO) additionally increased stress-induced proline excretion. Our results indicate that NO is able to mitigate the destructive effects of osmotic stress on the roots of wheat seedlings. Diabetic retinopathy (DR), which can cause vision loss, may progress faster with poor glycemic control and oxidative stress. This study aims to examine how dietary patterns and glycemic control biomarkers relate to retinopathy risk in type 2 diabetes patients. In this study, we enrolled diabetic patients with retinopathy (DR) (n = 136) and without retinopathy (no DR) (n = 466) from a cohort of participants in the "Blood Pressure Control to Reduce the Risk of Type 2 Diabetic Nephropathy Study". To investigate how methyl jasmonate (MeJA) affects the storage quality of fresh-cut Cistanche deserticola, this study immersed fresh-cut Cistanche deserticola in MeJA solutions of 100, 150, and 200 μmol/L concentrations and measured changes in hardness, weight loss rate, total soluble solids (TSS), total colony count, color, browning degree, total phenol content, polyphenol oxidase (PPO), peroxidase (POD), and malondialdehyde (MDA) content during storage.Results indicated that after 14 days of storage, fresh-cut Cistanche deserticola treated with 200 μmol/L MeJA showed a decrease in MDA, PPO, and POD activities by 21.32%, 23.62%, and 24.08%, respectively, while the total phenol content increased by 33.68%, resulting in higher antioxidant capacity and a significant delay in the degree of browning during storage. MeJA treatment also slowed down color changes and weight loss during storage, reduced the total colony count by 23.88%, and increased the hardness and TSS content by 17.89% and 40.22%, respectively, effectively maintaining the storage quality of fresh-cut Cistanche deserticola. Background: Senescence is accompanied by a progressive decrease in male reproductive performance, mainly due to oxidative stress and endothelial dysfunction. Alpha lipoic acid (ALA) is a potent antioxidant, that diffuses freely in aqueous and lipid phases, possessing anti-inflammatory and anti-apoptotic properties. This study aimed to examine the effects of supplemental dietary ALA on testicular hemodynamics (TH), circulating hormones, and semen quality in aged goats. Twelve Baladi bucks were divided into two groups (n = 6 each); the first fed a basic ration and served as a control group (CON), while the second received the basic ration supplemented with 600 mg ALA/ kg daily for consecutive eight weeks (ALA). Results: There were improvements in testicular blood flow in the ALA group evidenced by a lower resistance index (RI) and pulsatility index (PI) concurrent with higher pampiniform-colored areas/pixel (W3-W6). There were increases in testicular volume and decreases in echogenicity (W3-W5; ALA vs. CON). Compared to the CON, ALA-bucks had higher serum concentrations of testosterone, estradiol, and nitric oxide (W3-W5). There were enhancements in semen traits (progressive motility, viability, morphology, and concentration, alanine aminotransferase enzyme) and oxidative biomarkers (catalase, total antioxidant capacity, and malondialdehyde). Salinity tolerance was studied in chickpea accessions from a germplasm collection and in cultivars from Kazakhstan. After NaCl treatment, significant differences were found between genotypes, which could be arranged into three groups. Those that performed poorest were found in group 1, comprising five ICC accessions with the lowest chlorophyll content, the highest leaf necrosis (LN), Na+ accumulation, malondialdehyde (MDA) content, and a low glutathione ratio GSH/GSSG. Two cultivars, Privo-1 and Tassay, representing group 2, were moderate in these traits, while the best performance was for group 3, containing two other cultivars, Krasnokutsky-123 and Looch, which were found to have mostly green plants and an exact opposite pattern of traits. Marker–trait association (MTA) between 6K DArT markers and four traits (LN, Na+, MDA, and GSH/GSSG) revealed the presence of four possible candidate genes in the chickpea genome that may be associated with the three groups. One gene, ATP-binding cassette, CaABCC6, was selected, and three haplotypes, A, D1, and D2, were identified in plants from the three groups. Two of the most salt-tolerant cultivars from group 3 were found to have haplotype D2 with a novel identified SNP. RT-qPCR analysis confirmed that this gene was strongly expressed after NaCl treatment in the parental- and breeding-line plants of haplotype D2. Mass spectrometry of seed proteins showed a higher accumulation of glutathione reductase and S-transferase, but not peroxidase, in the D2 haplotype. In conclusion, the CaABCC6 gene was hypothesized to be associated with a better response to oxidative stress via glutathione metabolism, while other candidate genes are likely involved in the control of chlorophyll content and Na+ accumulation. The liver, being the most metabolically active organ, is highly vulnerable to damage caused by oxidative stress. Rosa davurica Pall. seed oil (RDPO), a novel vegetable oil, and its bioactive components have been extensively researched in the field of antioxidants. In this research, the antioxidant properties and hepatoprotection by RDPO were evaluated. A series of antioxidant evaluation systems and a CCl4-induced acute liver injury model in mice were used to investigate the antioxidant activity and hepatoprotective efficacy of RDPO. The results showed that the extraction rate of RDPO was 11.12% using the optimal extraction process. Three major unsaturated fatty acids of the oil were α-linolenic acid (11.89 ± 0.017%), linoleic acid (18.52 ± 0.072%), and oleic acid (11.54 ± 0.425%). Furthermore, its antioxidant small-molecule compounds were β-sitosterol (1.429 ± 0.002 μg/g), α-tocopherol (1.273 ± 0.079 μg/g), β-carotene (0.012 ± 0.001 μg/g), lycopene (0.108 ± 0.002 μg/g), squalene (178.950 ± 0.794 μg/g), total polyphenols (1.114 ± 0.032 μg GAE/mg), and total flavonoids (0.504 ± 0.009 mg RU/g), respectively. In vitro, RDPO significantly inhibited the production of ABTS+•, DPPH•, O2•−, and hydroxyl radicals, as well as Fe3+. In vivo, RDPO significantly reversed the activity of total superoxide-dismutase, catalase, L-glutathione, and the level of malondialdehyde (MDA) in liver tissue. It also obviously inhibited the activity of aspartate transaminase (AST) and the level of MDA in the serum. Therefore, RDPO has demonstrated excellent antioxidant activity and a potential liver protective effect. This effect may be ascribed to its capacity for decreasing AST activity, inhibiting lipid peroxidation, and boosting endogenous antioxidant enzyme activity. Purpose: This study aimed to investigate the protective effects of gallic acid (GA) against ovarian damage induced by bisphenol A (BPA) exposure in female rats. We evaluated whether GA can mitigate the adverse effects of BPA on ovarian structure, inflammatory markers, oxidative stress, apoptosis, and reproductive hormone levels. Methods: Thirty-two female rats were categorized into four groups: control, GA, BPA, and GA+BPA. Histopathological evaluations of ovarian tissue were performed using hematoxylin-eosin staining. The immunohistochemical analysis was conducted for inflammatory, oxidative DNA damage, and apoptotic markers (Tumor necrosis factor alpha [TNFα], cyclooxygenase-2 [COX2], interleukin-1 beta [IL-1β], 8-hydroxydeoxyguanosine [8-OHdG], and caspase 3). Oxidative stress was assessed by measuring malondialdehyde and superoxide dismutase levels. Furthermore, follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH), luteinizing hormone (LH), estrogen, and progesterone levels were quantified using enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. Results: Histopathological outcomes revealed that BPA significantly induced follicular degeneration, which was effectively mitigated by GA treatment (P < 0.05). Immunohistochemical analysis highlighted the exacerbation of inflammatory responses and oxidative DNA damage and apoptosis (TNFα, COX-2, IL-1β, 8-OHdG, and caspase 3) in BPA-exposed tissues, which were reduced in the presence of GA (P < 0.05). The assessment of oxidative stress demonstrated that GA could significantly decrease lipid peroxidation and partially restore antioxidant defense mechanisms disrupted by BPA (P < 0.05). Hormonal profiling indicated that BPA exposure altered the levels of FSH, LH, estrogen, and progesterone, with GA treatment showing a capacity to modulate these changes, especially in progesterone levels (P < 0.05). Conclusions: The findings suggest that GA exhibits protective properties against BPA-induced ovarian damage through its antioxidative and anti-inflammatory activities, alongside its ability to modulate hormonal imbalances. In this experimental study we aimed to investigate the biochemical and histopathological effects of concomitantly administered taxifolin on tramadol-induced liver damage in rats. The rats were divided into three groups; control group (CG), tramadol alone (TRG), and taxifolin + tramadol given (TTRG) groups. Malondialdehyde (MDA), total glutathione (tGSH), total oxidant status (TOS), total antioxidant status (TAS), nuclear factor-kappa beta (NF-kB), tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α), and interleukin-1β (IL-1β) levels were measured in liver tissues. Liver tissues were also examined histopathologically. Alanine aminotransferase (ALT) and aspartate aminotransferase (AST) activities were determined in blood samples. In tissue analyses, determinants of oxidative stress and inflammation, all were significantly higher in the TRG group compared with the control and TTRG groups. In the TTRG group, all oxidative stress and inflammation markers were significantly lower than in the TRG group. In addition, there was not any significant difference between the control and TTRG groups regarding the TOS and TAS status. Serum liver enzymes were also significantly higher in the TRG group than in the other two groups. In histopathological examinations, the control group had a normal histological appearance. Degenerative-necrotic hepatocytes and hemorrhage, which were seen at a severe level in the TRG group, were found to be moderate in the treated TTRG group. In addition, mononuclear cell infiltrations were found to be severe in the TRG group and mild in the treated TTRG group. Finally it was concluded that Taxifolin alleviated the toxic effects of tramadol on the liver including the histopathological and biochemical changes as well as the oxidative damage. Objective: Ischemia is characterized by an inadequate supply of nutrients and oxygen due to reduced blood circulation to specific tissues or organs. Reperfusion injury refers to the detrimental effects of abrupt exposure of the ischemic tissue to elevated oxygen levels and subsequent generation of reactive oxygen derivatives inside the tissue. In surgical procedures characterized by frequent occurrences of ischemia-reperfusion (I/R), such as transplant and cardiovascular surgery, it is crucial to prioritize the preservation of tissue integrity and mitigation of associated damage. In this study, we formulated a hypothesis suggesting that carvacrol (Car), an aromatic hydrocarbon present in some plant species, might decrease I/R injury by implication of its antioxidant, anti-apoptotic, and anti-inflammatory functions. Methods: We planned our study with 18 rats, randomly divided into three groups: control group, I/R group, and I/R + Car group. In the control group, laparotomy was performed only, and blood and lower limb muscle tissue samples were taken. In the I/R group, after laparotomy, lower extremity ischemia is achieved for 60 min, and reperfusion is achieved for another 60 min. In I/R + Car, rats were administered 100 mg/kg Car via intraperitoneal injection 30 min after ischemia. Then, 60 min of ischemia and 60 min of reperfusion were achieved. Lower limb muscle samples were examined both histologically and biochemically. We evaluated the levels of malondialdehyde (MDA), glutathione-S transferase (GST), and catalase (CAT). In addition, serum ischemia-modified albumin (IMA) levels were measured. Results: Our study showed that the findings of I/R injury decreased prominently in the I/R + Car group's samples. GST, MDA, CAT, and IMA levels were significantly higher in the I/R group than in the control and I/R + Car groups. (p=0.024, p=0.010, p=0.030 and p<0.0001; respectively). Histopathological examination revealed no degeneration in the control group. Conversely, contraction, hypertrophy, nucleus degeneration, necrotic fibers, and hyalinization were observed in the I/R group. In the I/R + Car group, inflamed areas were less frequent than in the I/R group, and vascular dilatation of myofibre was noted. Conclusion: This study demonstrates that the Car molecule protects against I/R injury. Therefore, we contend that more experimental cohort investigations are needed to examine the impact of the Car molecule on preventing I/R injury. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: Advanced glycation end products (AGEs) that accompany many metabolic disorders including diabetes, obesity, and a wide range of dyslipidemia conditions, are strongly associated with adverse effects on cell and tissue homeostasis. Accordingly, our objective was to investigate the impact of AGE-promoting diets on mouse models, considering both scenarios with and without methylglyoxal (MGO) as a primary precursor of AGEs. Materials and Methods: In this experimental study, 5-week-old C57BL/6 mice were split into four groups as a control group (n=5), AGE (n=5), MGO (n=8), and AGE-MGO-diets (n=8). After five weeks the level of fasting blood sugar (FBS), body weight, food intake, sperm parameters, and functional tests were evaluated. Furthermore, testicular superoxide dismutase (SOD) activity, malondialdehyde, and total antioxidant capacity (TAC) were assessed. Results: After five weeks, AGE, AGE-MGO, and MGO groups showed the highest level of body weight and FBS in comparison to the control group. Mean sperm concentration, sperm malondialdehyde, testicular lipid peroxidation, and TAC did not differ significantly among the study groups. While, AGE, MGO, and AGE-MGO groups showed a significant reduction in sperm motility and progressive motility compared to the control group (P<0.05). The greatest increases in abnormal sperm morphology and intracytoplasmic reactive oxygen species (ROS) were observed in the MGO and AGE-MGO groups than in the control group (P<0.05). Sperm protamine deficiency and residual histone were significantly increased in the three treatment groups compared to the control group (P<0.05). Regarding the DNA damage, the AGE and AGE-MGO groups showed the most severe damage. The lowest amount of testicular superoxide dismutases (SOD, P<0.001) was observed in the AGE-MGO group. Conclusion: AGEs and MGO have a negative influence on sperm function and reproductive potential. These effects could be possibly attributed to both increased oxidative stress (OS) and inflammation. The benefits of exercise in TBI have been proven. However, the time-dependent effects of exercise initiation and the involved mechanisms are controversial. We investigated the effects of preconditioning, continuous, early, and delayed treadmill exercise on motor behavior, brain edema, inflammation, and oxidative stress in experimental traumatic brain injury (TBI). 48 male rats were assigned into two groups: sedentary control (Sham and TBI) and exercise groups: 1MB (preconditioning, initiation beginning at 1 month before trauma), 1MBA (continuous, initiation beginning at 1 month before and continuing 1 month after trauma), 24hA (early, initiation beginning at 24 h after trauma), and 1WA (delay, initiation beginning at 1 week after trauma). The rats in exercise groups were forced to run on a treadmill five days a week for 30 min per day. Rotarod and open file were used to assess motor behavior. ELISA was also used to measure total antioxidant capacity (TAC), tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α), and malondialdehyde (MDA) in serum and CSF. Exercise significantly decreased neurological impairments, motor deficits, and apoptosis compared with the sedentary group. Early (within 24 h) and ongoing (1 MBA) exercise significantly improved motor behavior after TBI. In addition, these exercise programs inhibited brain edema and the number of apoptotic cells. MDA and TNF-α levels increased in all exercise groups, but the effects were greater after early exercise than after delayed exercise, resulting in a significant decrease in TAC levels in serum and CSF. We discovered a positive correlation between MDA, TAC, and TNF-α concentration in serum and CSF. Our finding suggests that early exercise (24hA) and 1MBA groups afford neuroprotection and reduce the second injury consequence, probably by reducing neuronal apoptosis and oxidative stress. Aim: This study focused on the anti‐oxidant and anti‐apoptotic effects of CoQ10 in ovaries exposed to pelvic radiation. Methods: Thirty‐two female rats were randomly assigned into four groups. Group I (control group), Group II: Only 2 Gy pelvic x‐ray irradiation (IR) was administered as a single fractioned dose. Group III: 30 mg/kg CoQ10 was administered by oral gavage +2 Gy pelvic IR. Group IV: 150 mg/kg CoQ10 was administered by oral gavage +2 Gy pelvic IR. CoQ10 treatment was started 7 days before pelvic IR and completed 7 days later. The rats in Group III and IV were treated with CoQ10 for a total of 14 days. Results: Histopathological analysis showed severe damage to the ovarian tissue in the radiation group, while both doses of CoQ10 showed normal histological structure. Likewise, while there was a high level of staining in the IR group for necrosis and apoptosis, the CoQ10 treated ones were like the control group. Tissue Malondialdehyde (MDA) levels were like the control group in the low‐dose CoQ10 group, while the MDA levels of the high dose CoQ10 group were similar to the radiation group. Conclusion: Usage of low‐dose CoQ10 has a radioprotective effect on radiation‐induced ovarian damage. Although the use of high doses is morphologically radioprotective, no antioxidative effect was observed in the biochemical evaluation. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
