Background and Objectives: Squamous cell carcinoma (SQCC) represents a significant proportion of human malignancies affecting various anatomical sites, including the lung. Understanding the prognostic factors is crucial for establishing effective risk stratification in these patients, as multiple critical aspects significantly impact overall survival. Materials and Methods: A retrospective study was conducted on 99 patients with operable lung SQCC treated at a tertiary center. The exclusion criteria included patients under 18, those with in situ or metastatic SQCC, and those who received neoadjuvant therapy. The surgical specimens were re-analyzed, and data were collected on multiple variables, including pTNM staging, tumor characteristics, and overall survival (OS). The Kaplan–Meier survival analysis and Cox regression models were used to identify significant prognostic factors. Results: The Kaplan–Meier analysis showed a median survival of 36 months with a 65.65% mortality rate. Significant factors influencing survival included keratinization, histological grading, tumor size and stage, pleural invasion, tumor cell arrangement, tumor budding, spread through air space (STAS), and mitotic index. A multiple Cox regression highlighted the nonkeratinizing tumors, advanced pT stages, single-cell invasion, and high mitotic index as key predictors of poorer outcomes. The nonkeratinizing tumors showed higher mortality and shorter median survival rates compared to keratinizing tumors. The tumor staging, cell arrangement, and tumor budding significantly impacted the survival curves. Conclusions: The study underscores the importance of detailed histopathological evaluations in lung SQCC. The nonkeratinizing tumors, advanced pT stage, single-cell invasion, and high mitotic index were associated with higher hazard rates, emphasizing the need for a comprehensive grading system incorporating these factors to improve prognostic accuracy and guide treatment strategies. A 66-year-old man, a 40-year smoker, was diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis in 2018. He was treated for one year with methotrexate, and, later in 2020, he was diagnosed with interstitial pulmonary fibrosis. In 2022, treatment with nintedanib was initiated, with clinical improvement being indicated but without showing a functional or imaging benefit. The evolution of the disease was rapidly progressive and unfavorable, with death occurring due to pulmonary thromboembolism. Following the autopsy, triple lesions of the RA at the lung level were confirmed: interstitial, of the NSIP type with a fibrosing character at the level of the lower airways of the bilateral bronchiectasis type, and vascular damage due to pulmonary thromboembolism secondary to chronic inflammation. Prevention, assessment, and identification of drug–drug interactions (DDIs) represent a challenge for healthcare professionals, especially in nosocomial settings. This narrative review aims to provide a thorough assessment of the most clinically significant DDIs for antibiotics used in healthcare-associated infections. Complex poly-pharmaceutical regimens, targeting multiple pathogens or targeting one pathogen in the presence of another comorbidity, have an increased predisposition to result in life-threatening DDIs. Recognising, assessing, and limiting DDIs in nosocomial infections offers promising opportunities for improving health outcomes. The objective of this review is to provide clinicians with practical advice to prevent or mitigate DDIs, with the aim of increasing the safety and effectiveness of therapy. A rise in fungal infections has been observed worldwide among patients with extended hospital stays because of the severe infection caused by the new coronavirus pandemic. A 62-year-old female patient was admitted with a severe form of Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) and spent four weeks in the intensive care unit (ICU) requiring mechanical ventilation support before being moved to a tertiary hospital for further testing. Aspergillus fumigatus filamentous fungus, Candida spp., and positive bacteriology for multidrug-resistant Klebsiella pneumoniae and Proteus mirabilis were identified by bronchial aspirate cultures. The patient's progress was gradually encouraging while receiving oral antifungal and broad-spectrum antibiotic therapy along with respiratory physical therapy; but ultimately, thoracic surgery was necessary. Long-lasting tissue damage and severe, persistent inflammatory syndrome were the two main pathophysiological mechanisms that led to significant outcomes regarding lung lesions that were rapidly colonized by fungi and resistant flora, cardiac damage with sinus tachycardia at the slightest effort, and chronic inflammatory syndrome, which was characterized by marked asthenia, myalgias, and exercise intolerance. This study assesses the effectiveness of such an approach in locating TB cases among vulnerable groups, such as homeless persons, injecting drug users, those detained in prison, and people living in rural areas. Methods: The study focuses on socio-economic characteristics and TB detection rates across Romanian counties using modern techniques including computer-aided detection of lesions on chest X-ray and GeneXpert tests. Results: The results highlight the disproportionate burden of TB in vulnerable groups, by revealing significant differences in TB detection rates between regions. Notably, the TB detection rates among these vulnerable groups (250.85 per 100,000 population) are five times higher than the national incidence rate (46.1). Discussion: These findings underscore the imperative integration of ACF into National TB Program to provide customized and efficient solutions for diverse vulnerable groups, thereby informing crucial public health initiatives and interventions. Background and objectives: Intuitive nutrition represents a disputed topic when subjects about weight loss and diets are approached worldwide. The current study aims to emphasize the causal relationship between emotional status and intuitive eating, starting from the hypothesis that a nutritional imbalance can be determined by an emotional imbalance. Materials and Methods: This prospective study included 73 subjects, aged between 18-70, with a sex ratio of 21:52 male to female and it was designed to use digital methods to collect data from the sample of subjects through online questionnaires, collection software and automatic statistical analysis of data. The collected data was analysed in parallel using the Minitab software and Office Excel. Results: Data processing confirmed the working hypothesis, namely that emotional status influences the way of eating and intuitive eating can contribute to maintaining emotional balance. Also, the statistical analysis show Mean=24.33, SD= 14.46, a Median of 17 and a level of Confidence of 35.94%. Conclusions: Intuitive nutrition can be a helpful factor in maintaining emotional balance directly related to nutrition. Disturbance of emotional balance facilitates the adoption of a way of nutrition that can be classified under the category of eating disorders, attracting a procession of somatic and psychological consequences. Background: Tuberculosis (TB) is the leading infectious cause of mortality worldwide. In the last years, resistant strains of the etiological agent, Mycobacterium tuberculosis, have emerged, thus demanding more triage tests to identify active pulmonary TB (PTB) patients and to evaluate their disease severity. Therefore, acute-phase reaction serum tests are required for monitoring TB patients, among WHO symptom screening recommendations. C-reactive protein (CRP) is a non-specific inflammatory biomarker that has been recently proposed for TB screening and can be quantitatively analyzed through cost-effective point-of-care assays. A previous meta-analysis found CRP to be highly sensitive and moderately specific for active PTB with confirmed HIV infection. Methods: We performed a meta-analysis update of diagnostic tests, pooling sensitivities, and specificities in order to assess the accuracy of CRP as a potential test for the screening of HIV-associated PTB in outpatients. We searched MEDLINE, Web of Science, and SCOPUS for eligible articles before 19 October 2021. Results: We identified 13 eligible studies with HIV-positive patients with PTB. At a CRP threshold of 10 mg/L, CRP pooled sensitivity was 87% (76%-93%) and pooled specificity was 67% (49%-81%), with an area under the curve (AUC) of 0.858. Using a CRP threshold of 8 mg/L, pooled sensitivity was 82% (72%-89%) and pooled specificity was 82% (67%-92%), with an AUC of 0.879. We found that CRP has a high sensitivity in the screening of PTB in HIV-positive outpatients, consistent with findings reported previously. Conclusions: Regardless of pooled specificity, better results were found using the CRP threshold of 8 mg/L as a test screening of PTB, meeting the need of further approaching specific TB diagnostic methods and reducing resource consumption.
