Sustainable waste management is a fundamental aspect in a circular economy. The focus of this work is to evaluate the performance of the current MSW management system in the city of Oslo, and to understand how to possibly close the gap between today's recycling rate and the EU sorting and recycling targets for 2025 and 2030. The adoption of innovative solutions such as central sorting and chemical recycling of plastic might help achieving a higher overall recycling rate. While the achievement of a higher source sorting can help achieving the EU recycling targets without undergoing large investments, it might be challenging to find measures and incentives that succeed in reaching the desired citizen involvement. The work focuses on the waste fractions for which specific targets are set by the EU, i.e., biowaste, plastic, paper and cardboard, glass and metal. This study can help waste management companies to understand how the introduction of different technologies within their waste management system might help achieving the EU recycling targets, and help policymakers understand the fundamental role of citizen involvement and source sorting.

Background:  Project Description:  Aldrich Park Stream Restoration Project will assist UCI Department of Environmental Planning and Sustainability in implementing the Stormwater Management Plan for UCI.  Prior to UCI’s construction, a stream ran through Aldrich Park and was put into a pipe underground with the creation of the park.  The purpose of the project is to re-naturalize the stream as an amenity of the park.  Not only will the stream be a part of the Riparian habitat but will also serve as water quality control for urban runoff collected from parts of university Hills and campus.  Faculty Adviser:  Matt Dienes, RLA DEED AP; Senior Planner, UCI; Consultant: David Jaffe, Ph.D., P.E., D.WRE; PSMOAS

Spirituality and resilience are very important constructs in health psychology. Although there are many studies that try to relate spirituality with resilience, we believe that there is still a lack of connections with respect to a specific proposal of spirituality that helps to live a life in the key of resilience, beyond being going through traumatic situations or not. In our study we will present some points for the experience of a specific spirituality: the Christian one. At the same time, we will observe the correspondences between the teachings of the masters of Christian spirituality and the proposal of a life from a salutogenic perspective. We believe that these brief lines can be an approximation, as a starting point to develop, in other more profound investigations, the great existing links between the Christian spiritual tradition with what is developed today from the psychology of health for a life that unfolds all the potentialities of the human person.

Summary: The efficacy of ALVAC-based HIV and SIV vaccines in humans and macaques correlates with antibodies to envelope variable region 2 (V2). We show here that vaccine-induced antibodies to SIV variable region 1 (V1) inhibit anti-V2 antibody-mediated cytotoxicity and reverse their ability to block V2 peptide interaction with the α4β7 integrin. SIV vaccines engineered to delete V1 and favor an α helix, rather than a β sheet V2 conformation, induced V2-specific ADCC correlating with decreased risk of SIV acquisition. Removal of V1 from the HIV-1 clade A/E A244 envelope resulted in decreased binding to antibodies recognizing V2 in the β sheet conformation. Thus, deletion of V1 in HIV envelope immunogens may improve antibody responses to V2 virus vulnerability sites and increase the efficacy of HIV vaccine candidates.

Abstract Purpose Parameniscal cysts are associate with horizontal meniscal tears. Arthroscopic meniscal repair and the excision of the cyst by mini‐open approach represent a valid treatment. However, the recurrence of cyst is still a current issue. Therefore, biological factors may be considered to promote the biological repair and avoid recurrence. The aim of the present study was to report the clinical results and the rate of recurrence of the cyst after minimum 2‐year of follow up in a cohort of patients treated by meniscal repair and autologous platelet‐rich fibrin matrix augment. Methods Patients with lateral parameniscal cyst undergoing arthroscopic meniscal repair and autologous platelet‐rich fibrin matrix augment between 2016 and 2019 were retrospectively reviewed in March 2021. Inclusion criteria were absence of prior surgery on the affected knee with minimum 2‐year of follow‐up. Exclusion criteria were concomitant ligament lesions, rheumatic diseases and knee osteoarthritis. After reviewing the database, each selected patient was contacted and asked to participate in the study; at the follow‐up evaluation all patient signed an informed consent. Tegner‐Lysholm knee score, IKDC and NRS were collected before surgery and at follow‐up. Results This study included 15 patients (8 male) with mean age of 32.8 years old. No recurrence of the cysts was observed. The Tegner‐Lysholm knee score and IKDC subjective scores increased respectively from 41.3 ± 5.4 and 37.6 ± 5.1 at baseline to 92.3 ± 4.6 and 89.4 ± 2.6 at the final follow up. Concerning pain relief, the Numeric Pain Rating Scale (NRS) displayed a significant improvement reaching at the follow up a score of 1,3 ± 1.1 in comparison to 6.8 ± 0.9 at the baseline. Conclusion Surgical management of symptomatic lateral parameniscal cyst with cyst excision, autologous PRP membrane application and meniscus repair demonstrated excellent subjective clinical outcome with any cyst reoccurrence. The ALVAC-HIV clade B/AE and equivalent SIV-based/gp120 + Alum vaccines successfully decreased the risk of virus acquisition in humans and macaques. Here, we tested the efficacy of HIV clade B/C ALVAC/gp120 vaccine candidates + MF59 or different doses of Aluminum hydroxide (Alum) against SHIV-Cs of varying neutralization sensitivity in macaques. Low doses of Alum induced higher mucosal V2-specific IgA that increased the risk of Tier 2 SHIV-C acquisition. High Alum dosage, in contrast, elicited serum IgG to V2 that correlated with a decreased risk of Tier 1 SHIV-C acquisition. MF59 induced negligible mucosal antibodies to V2 and an inflammatory profile with blood C-reactive Protein (CRP) levels correlating with neutralizing antibody titers. MF59 decreased the risk of Tier 1 SHIV-C acquisition. The relationship between vaccine efficacy and the neutralization profile of the challenge virus appear to be linked to the different immunological spaces created by MF59 and Alum via CXCL10 and IL-1β, respectively.

Anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injuries are among the most common lesions in orthopaedics practice, but still today, rates up to 24% of unsatisfactory results are reported. Unaddressed anterolateral complex (ALC) injuries have been claimed to be responsible for residual anterolateral rotatory instability (ALRI) after isolate ACL reconstruction and have demonstrated to increase graft failure. In this article, we present our technique for reconstruction of the ACL and anterolateral (ALL) ligament combining the advantages of the anatomical position and the intraosseous femoral fixation to ensure anteroposterior and anterolateral rotational stability. Several studies have recently shown the use of recombinant rabies virus as potential vector-viral vaccine for HIV-1. The sequence homology between gp 120 and rabies virus glycoprotein has been reported. The McCoy cell line has therefore been used to show CD4+ or CD4+ like receptors. Samples of HIV-1 were isolated, when plasma of HIV-1 positive patients was inoculated in the McCoy cell line. The virus infection was then studied during successive virus passages. The proteins released in the extra cellular medium were checked for protein activity, by exposure to SDS Electrophoresis and blotting to nitro-cellulose filter, then reacting with sera of HIV positive and negative patients. Successive passages were performed, and showed viral replication, membrane permeabilization, the syncytium formation, and the cellular lysis (cytopathic effect). Flow cytometry analysis shows clear evidence that CD4+ receptors are present in this cell line, which enhances the likelihood of easy isolation and replication of HIV. The results observed allow the use of this cell line as a possible model for isolating HIV, as well as for carrying out studies of the dynamics of viral infection in several situations, including exposure to drugs in pharmacological studies, and possibly studies and analyses of the immune response in vaccine therapies.

This research investigates the impact of female CEOs on mergers and acquisitions (M&As) in family and nonfamily firms. With a sample of 165 Italian listed companies engaged in M&As from 2011 to 2016, the study explores whether CEO gender impacts on firm's acquisitiveness in family and nonfamily firms. Findings indicate that having a female CEO is associated with lower acquisitiveness overall. However, this trend is not consistently observed in family firms, challenging conventional assumptions. This research contributes to understanding the nuanced dynamics of female leadership and M&As, shedding light on the role of CEO gender in distinct ownership contexts. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Parameniscal cysts are defined as an internal disorder of the knee joint. It is known that parameniscal cysts are associated with horizontal meniscal tears that could lead to the collection of synovial fluid within the cyst. Despite the treatment of meniscal tears, cyst recurrence is still an issue that needs to be addressed. In this regard, there has been an increasing interest in the use of biologic agents to enhance the vascularity and healing of the meniscus. Preliminary results for biologic therapeutic agents, such as growth factors, bone marrow, and aspirate concentrate, have been encouraging. However, these options are more demanding in regards to time, financial burden, resources, and so on. Autologous platelet-rich plasma is readily available, easy to use, affordable, and minimally invasive. This Technical Note will describe a step-by-step and reproducible technique for the harvesting, preparation, and use of an autologous platelet-rich fibrin matrix used to augment the healing of meniscal repairs. Posterolateral corner (PLC) injuries are complex knee injuries that are becoming increasingly frequent. Often undiagnosed and underestimated, a systematic diagnostic workup is necessary to assess the severity of PLC injury in order to then be able to select the proper surgery approach. Anatomical and nonanatomical PLC-reconstruction techniques have been described. • During the Covid-19 pandemic, Bid Premiums tend to increase in M&A transactions involving listed companies. • Covid-19 pandemic negatively affected the short-term Cumulative Abnormal Returns. • The empirical analysis also introduces a novel index to capture the Covid-19 pandemic severity through the analysis of daily cases, hospitalized patients and deaths. Economic conditions within the market affect the likelihood of performing a business combination between firms. Indeed, the level of uncertainty during period of crisis plays a relevant role in M&A transactions. This paper is one of the first attempts to investigate the relationship between health crisis and business combinations. The findings show that while the bid premiums computed using the target's share price thirty days before the transaction announcement increase for M&A operations performed during health crises, the cumulative abnormal returns decrease. Chylothorax is a rare disease caused by both traumatic and nontraumatic events. Chylothorax can cause cardiopulmonary abnormalities and significant nutritional, metabolic, and immunologic consequences. We present an exceptional case of chylothorax due to penetrating chest trauma. The diagnosis was made by thoracentesis. Conservative management with nothing by mouth and total parenteral nutrition failed; therefore the patient needed surgical closure of the duct leak. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]

Lipoblastoma is a rare benign tumor arising from embryonic fat; it occurs mainly in the extremities and almost exclusively in infants and children younger than 3 years. We present a case of giant mediastinal lipoblastoma in a 16-month-old boy who presented with acute respiratory distress. The mass was completely excised through a left posterolateral thoracotomy. The postoperative course was uneventful, and the pathologic final diagnosis was lipoblastoma. Although extremely rare, mediastinal lipoblastoma can be life threatening; therefore, it should be included in the differential diagnosis of mediastinal mass in younger subjects. The AA. report the results of 300 urine cultures carried out on paraplegics hospitalized in the Centro Paraplegici of Ostia since 1970 to the end of 1977. All the patients were catheterized. They found infections in the 73 to 92% of the examined cases in the different years. The most frequently isolated bacterial species in the years 1970, 1971, and 1972 were Escherichia, Staphylococcus and Enterococcus, whereas were Proteus, Citrobacter, Klebsiella and Psuedomonas in the following years. They believe that these findings are correlated with the more and more frequent use of large spectrum antibiotics, that are able to control the infections supported by Escherichia and by Gram-positive and make easy the establishement of bacterial species much more resistant against their action.
