The 2021 La Palma eruption provided an unpreceded opportunity to test the relationship between earthquake hypocenters and the location of magma reservoirs. We performed density measurements on CO 2 -rich fluid inclusions (FIs) hosted in olivine crystals that are highly sensitive to pressure via calibrated Raman spectroscopy. This technique can revolutionize our knowledge of magma storage and transport during an ongoing eruption, given that it can produce precise magma storage depth constraints in near real time with minimal sample preparation. Our FIs have CO 2 recorded densities from 0.73 to 0.98 g/cm 3 , translating into depths of 15 to 27 km, which falls within the reported deep seismic zone recording the main melt storage reservoir.

Isla Decepción es uno de los volcanes más activos de la Antártida, con más de veinte erupciones explosivas en los últimos dos siglos. Las variaciones isotópicas de hidrógeno y oxígeno en los volátiles atrapados en las muestras recogidas (vidrio volcánico e inclusiones de fundido en fenocristales) proporcionan información esencial sobre los mecanismos que controlan la historia eruptiva en este sistema volcánico. Los nuevos resultados isotópicos combinados con un exhaustivo conoci- miento petrológico de este volcán revela (i) un ascenso rápido y el enfriamiento de los magmas preservando el contenido de agua magmática pre-eruptiva, con ligeras variaciones por rehidratación debido a la exposición del vidrio volcánico a aguas marinas, meteóricas y fumarólicas; (ii) un sistema(s) magmático(s) variable en el tiempo y actualmente dominado por una desgasificación en sistema cerrado que conduce a erupciones explosivas; (iii) el control que ejercen los dos sistemas de fallas principales de la isla sobre las profundidades de estancamiento de los magmas, así como sobre las interacciones de los mag- mas con las aguas superficiales que dan lugar a una actividad hidrovolcánica. X Congreso Geológico de España, 5-7 Julio 2021, Vitoria - Gasteiz, Isla Decepción (Islas Shetland del Sur) es uno de los volcanes más activos de la Antártida, con más de 20 erupciones en los últimos 200 años (las más recientes en 1967, 1969 y 1970) y tres episodios de unrest documentados (1992, 1999 y 2014-15). La isla está formada por un sistema volcánico compuesto con una caldera central de 8,5 x 10 km datada en unos 3.980 ± 125 años. Durante la formación de la caldera de colapso, se emitieron entre 30 y 60 km3 (Dense Rock Equivalent-DRE) de magma basáltico-andesítico en forma de flujos piroclásticos, que dieron lugar a la Outer Coast Tuff Formation (OCTF), la principal unidad sin-caldera. Caracterizar las condiciones magmáticas y los procesos que desencadenaron el evento explosivo es crucial para entender el pasado (y futuro) de la evolución magmática de la isla. El objetivo de este trabajo es establecer, a partir de la petrología y la geoquímica, las condiciones y los procesos magmáticos que tuvieron lugar antes y durante la formación de la caldera de colapso. Los resultados preliminares confirman la existencia de dos magmas coexistiendo e interactuando antes (y durante) la erupción caldérica y procesos de cristalización fraccionada. International audience; Slab tearing induces localized deformations in the overriding plates of subduction zones and transfer zones accommodating differential retreat in back-arc regions. Because the space available for retreating slabs is limited in the Mediterranean realm, slab tearing during retreat has been a major ingredient of the evolution of this region since the end of the Eocene. The association of detailed seismic tomographic models and extensive field observations makes the Mediterranean an ideal natural laboratory to study these transfer zones. We review in this paper the various structures in back-arc regions differential retreat from the Alboran Sea to the Aegean-Anatolian region and discuss them with the help of 3D numerical models to better understand the partitioning of deformation between high-angle and low-angle faults, as well as the 3-D kinematics of deformation in the middle and lower crusts. Simple, archetypal, crustal-scale strike-slip faults are in fact rare in these contexts above slab tears. Transfer zones are in general instead wide deformation zones, from several tens to several hundred kilometers. A partitioning of deformation is observed between the upper and the lower crust with low-angle extensional shear zones at depth and complex association of transtensional basins at the surface. In the Western Mediterranean, between the Gulf of Lion and the Valencia basin, transtensional strike-slip faults are associated with syn-rift basins and lower crustal domes elongated in the direction of retreat (a-type domes), associated with massive magmatic intrusions in the lower crust and volcanism at the surface. On the northern side of the Alboran Sea, wide E-W trending strike-slip zones in the brittle field show partitioned thrusting and strike-slip faulting in the external zones of the Betics, and E-W trending metamorphic core complexes in the internal zones, parallel to the main retreat direction with a transition in time from ductile to brittle deformation. On the opposite, the southern margin of the Alboran Sea shows short en-échelon strike-slip faults. Deep structures are not known there. In the Aegean-Anatolian region, two main tear faults with different degrees of maturity are observed. Western Anatolia (Menderes Massif) and the Eastern Aegean Sea evolved above a major left-lateral tear in the Hellenic slab. In the crust, the differential retreat was accommodated mostly by low-angle shear zones with a constant direction of stretching and the formation of a-type high-temperature domes exhumed from the middle and lower crust. These low-angle shear zones evolve through time from ductile to brittle. On the opposite side of the Aegean region, the Corinth and Volos Rift as well as the Kephalonia fault offshore, accommodate the formation of a dextral tear fault. Here, only the brittle crust can be observed, but seismological data suggest low-angle shear zones at depth below the rifts. We discuss the rare occurrence of pure strike-slip faults in these contexts and propose that the high heat flow above the retreating slabs and more especially above slab tears favors a ductile behavior with distributed deformation of the crust and the formation of low-angle shear zones and high-temperature domes. While retreat proceeds, aided by tears, true strike-slip fault system may localize and propagate toward the retreating trench, ultimately leading to the formation of new plate boundary, as shown by the example of the North Anatolian Fault.; Les déchirures des panneaux plongeants dans les zones de subduction induisent des déformations localisées dans les domaines arrière-arcs des plaques chevauchantes sous la forme de zones de transfert qui accommodent les différences latérales de vitesse de retrait des fosses. Parce que l’espace disponible pour ce retrait est limité dans le domaine méditerranéen, les déchirures ont joué un rôle majeur dans l’évolution de cette région depuis la fin de l’Eocène. L’association de modèles tomographiques détaillés et de nombreuses observations de terrain font de la Méditerranée un laboratoire naturel idéal pour étudier ces zones de transfert. Nous proposons ici une revue des diverses structures des domaines arrière-arc accommodant le retrait différentiel depuis la Mer d’Alboran jusqu’à la région égéenne et nous les discutons grâce à des modèles numériques 3-D pour mieux comprendre le partitionnement de la déformation entre les failles à fort et faible pendage et la cinématique 3-D dans la croûte moyenne et la croûte inférieure. En Méditerranée occidentale, entre Golfe du Lion et bassin de Valence, des failles décrochantes transtensives sont associées à des bassins syn-rift et des dômes de croûte inférieure allongés dans la direction du retrait (dômes de type « a »), associés à des intrusions magmatiques massives dans la croûte inférieure et du volcanisme en surface. Sur la marge septentrionale de la Mer d’Alboran, des zones décrochantes E-O larges dans le domaine cassant montrent un partitionnement entre des chevauchements et des décrochements dans les zones externes et des dômes métamorphiques allongés E-O dans les zones internes, parallèlement à la direction principale de retrait, avec une évolution du ductile vers le cassant au cours du temps. La rive sud de la Mer d’Alboran montre à l’opposé des failles décrochantes en échelon courtes et les structures profondes sont mal connues. Dans la région Egée-Anatolie, deux zones larges de degré de maturité différents sont observées. L’ouest de l’Anatolie (massif du Menderes) et l’est de la Mer Egée ont évolué au-dessus d’une déchirure majeure du panneau plongeant hellénique. Dans la croûte, le retrait différentiel est principalement accommodé par des zones de cisaillement extensives à faible pendage avec des directions d’étirement cohérentes régionalement et des dômes métamorphiques de type « a » et de haute température exhumés depuis la croûte moyenne et la croûte inférieure. Ces zones de cisaillement à faible pendage évoluent du ductile au cassant au cours du temps. Du côté opposé du domaine égéen, le rift de Corinthe, le rift de Volos, ainsi que la faille de transfert de Céphalonie accommodent la formation d’une large zone de transfert dextre. Dans cette région, seule la croute supérieure peut être observée, mais les données sismologiques suggèrent l’existence de zones de cisaillement à faible pendage sous les rifts actifs. Nous discutons la rareté des grandes failles de transfert purement décrochantes dans ces contextes et proposons que le flux de chaleur élevé au-dessus des panneaux plongeants en recul et plus encore au-dessus des zones de déchirures favorise un comportement ductile avec déformation distribuée de la croûte et la formation de zones de cisaillement à faible pendage et de dômes de haute température. Pendant le retrait, favorisé par ces déchirures, de véritables failles décrochantes lithosphériques peuvent ensuite se localiser et évoluer en limites de plaques, comme le montre l’exemple de la Faille Nord Anatolienne.

vEGU21: Gather Online | 19–30 April 2021, Deception Island (South Shetland Islands), discovered in 1820, is one of the most active volcanoes in Antarctica with more than 20 eruptions (including the historic eruptions of 1967, 1969 and 1970) and three documented volcanic unrest events (1992, 1999 and 2014-15) over the past two centuries. Deception Island currently hosts two scientific bases, which operate every year during the Austral summer, and is also one of the most popular tourist destinations in Antarctica. The island is a composite volcano with a centrally located caldera of 8.5 x 10 km dated at 3,980 ± 125 yr. BP. During the caldera-forming event, between 30 and 60 km3 (Dense Rock Equivalent-DRE) of magma, erupted in the form of dense basaltic-andesitic pyroclastic density current deposits. During the last decades, Deception Island has been intensively investigated but some aspects regarding the magmatic processes associated with the formation of its caldera collapse are still under research and debate. For instance, characterizing the magmatic conditions and processes that triggered the huge explosive event is crucial to understand the past (and in turn the future) magmatic and volcanic evolution of the island. This study is performing an exhaustive petrological and geochemical characterization (mineral and juvenile glass geochemistry) of the Outer Coast Tuff Formation (OCTF), the main syn-caldera depositional unit. The preliminary results confirm the existence of two different magmas coexisting, and interacting, prior to (and during) the caldera-forming event. Mineral analyses also allow shedding further light on the magmatic processes occurring in the magma system before the eruption (e.g. fractional crystallization, magma mixing). The presence of alteration minerals such as palagonite and zeolites indicate different magma-water interaction mechanisms occurred during the syn- and post-eruptive episodes in the island., This research is part of POLARCSIC and PTIVolcan research initiatives. Mid and Late Cretaceous arc-related basaltic rocks in the Camagüey area, East Central Cuba, record an intriguing seemingly random enrichment in alkalis that suggests alkaline affinity, representing an oddity in the Greater Antilles. In this study, the petrology and geochemistry of volcanic rocks from the Camujiro, Piragua and La Mulata Formations have been investigated. The rocks bear a diverse mineral assemblage including feldspars (plagioclase and potassium feldspar), clinopyroxene, phlogopite and amphibole with both equilibrium and disequilibrium textures. Clinopyroxene porphyritic crystals show conspicuous oscillatory and convolute zoning and reveal events of mafic recharge and crystallization in equilibrium with alkaline and calc-alkaline basaltic magmas and their mixtures. Composition of fluorophlogopite xenocrystals is consistent with crystallization from mafic alkaline liquids. Unlike whole-rock major element composition, immobile trace element abundances suggest a systematic calc-alkaline affinity. Chondrite-normalized rare-earth element (REE) patterns are similar to those of calc-alkaline and high-K (and [sbnd]Th) calc-alkaline rocks from the Caribbean Antilles. Geochemical modelling indicates that the parental basic magmas formed by a 5–10% hydrous partial melting of spinel-facies depleted mantle fluxed by fluids evolved from subducted oceanic crust and pelagic sediments, as well as fractional crystallization. Random enrichment in alkalis in studied samples is attributed to the entrainment during ascent of material derived from mafic alkaline melts injected in the upper mantle or the root of the island-arc. The El Aouana igneous rocks are part of the Miocene magmatic suite that extends from Northern Tunisia to Morocco through the Algerian coast in the Maghrebin chain. These rocks are composed of volcanic (andesites and dacites) and subvolcanic (micodiorites and microgranodiorites) lithologies that intruded both the Cretaceous and Oligo-Miocene nappes, and the Miocene post-nappe sediments. The andesites are composed of plagioclase, amphibole and pyroxene phenocrysts that are set in a microlithic groundmass. The dacites are plagioclase-rich and rare, highly altered ferromagnesian minerals. The microdiorites and microgranodiorites are hornblende-bea­ring rocks with plagioclase, pyroxene and rare biotite phenocrysts that are set in a microcrystalline groundmass. Geochemical observations show that the rocks are calc-alkaline with I-type affinity. They are enriched in large ion lithophile elements (LILE) and light rare earth elements (LREE) compared to high field strength elements (HFSE) and heavy rare earth elements (HREE). The negative Nb, P and Ti anomalies observed on the multi-element patterns are imprints of magmas originated from subduction zones. Field, petrological and geochemical investi­gations show that the El Aouana Miocene igneous rocks are emplaced in a post-collisionnal setting. These rocks show similarities with the metaluminous, post-collisionnel granitoids of north-eastern Algeria which are thought to have been derived from a metasomatized mantle source as a consequence of ‘slab break-off’ underneath the North African margin. [fr] Les roches ignées du massif d’El Aouana font partie de la chaîne magmatique miocène des Maghrébides qui s’étend du nord de la Tunisie jusqu’au Maroc. Ces roches sont composées de faciès volcaniques (andésites et dacites) et subvolcaniques (microdiorites et microgranodiorites), qui ont été mis en place au sein des flyschs crétacés, oligo-miocènes et sédiments miocènes post-nappes. Les andésites sont composées de phénocristaux de plagioclase, d’amphibole et de pyroxène dans une mésostase microlithique. Les dacites sont plus riches en plagioclase avec de rare minéraux ferromagnésiens souvent altérés. Les microdiorites et microgranodiorites sont généralement à hornblende verte, plagioclase, pyroxène et rare biotite dans une mésostase microcristalline. Les résultats géochimiques montrent que ces roches sont calco-alcalines avec une affinité type-I et elles présentent un enrichissement en éléments à grand rayon ionique (LILE) et éléments de terres rares légers (LREE) par rap­port aux éléments à champs électrostatique élevé (HFSE) et aux éléments de terres rares lourds (HREE). Les anomalies négatives en Nb, P et Ti témoignent d’un magma de zones de subduction. Les observations de terrains, les données pétrographiques et géochimiques montrent que les granitoïdes miocènes d’El Aouana ont été mis en place dans un environnement post-collisionnel. Ces roches sont similaires aux granitoïdes métalumineux, post-collisionnels de l’Algérie du nord, considérés comme dérivés d’une source mantellique métasomatisée suite au processus de ‘slab break-off’ sous la marge nord-africaine.

EGU2020: Sharing Geoscience Online, 4-8 may 2020, Geochemistry of volatiles in active volcanoes provides insights into the magmatic processes and evolution at depth, such as magma evolution and degassing, which can be implemented into volcanic hazards assessment. Deception Island is one of the most active volcanoes in Antarctica, with more than twenty explosive eruptions documented over the past two centuries. Hydrogen and oxygen isotopic variations in the volatiles trapped in the Deception Island rocks (glass and melt inclusions in phenocrysts) provide essential information on the mechanisms controlling the eruptive history in this volcanic suite. Thus, understanding the petrological and related isotopic variations in the island, has the potential to foresee the possible occurrence and its main eruptive features of a future eruption. Information from hydrogen and oxygen stable isotopes combined with detailed petrologic data reveal in Deception Island (i) fast ascent and quenching of most magmas, preserving pre-eruptive magmatic signal of water contents and isotopic ratios, with local modification by rehydration due to glass exposition to seawater, meteoric and fumarolic waters; (ii) a plumbing system(s) currently dominated by closed-system degassing leading to explosive eruptions; (iii) control on the interactions of ascending magmas with the surface waters producing hydrovolcanic activity throughout the two main fault systems in Deception Island. The Betic-Rif Cordillera, located in the western part of the Mediterranean, results from the convergence of the European and African plates and related subduction processes. It is therefore an exceptional site to study the processes induced by subduction dynamics. This thesis focuses on the study of the internal domain of the Rif chain. Two key areas have been selected (Ceuta and Cabo Negro) where high pressure-low temperature crustal rocks (HP-LT) (present only in Ceuta) but also low pressure-high temperature rocks (LP-HT) and ultrabasic rocks outcrop. Their tectonic significance, placement mode and ages are still heavily debated subjects. A multidisciplinary approach was developed to carry out this work, with a detailed structural and petrographic study, as well as U/Th/Pb dating on zircon, monazite and xenotime and 40Ar/39Ar on white mica. The results obtained show that: (i) at circa 29 Ma a medium pressure-high temperature metamorphism (MP-HT) affects the lower Sebtides and Ghomarides. This phase is simultaneous with a thickening of the crust and the placement of diorite sill having a geochemical signature of calc-alkaline to high-K magmatic arc. This phase is contemporaneous to the HP-LT metamorphism observed in the crustal units of the upper Sebtides (ii) at circa 21 Ma an extension phase contributes to the final exhumation of these rocks. This event is associated with a metamorphic episode developed at the boundary between Amphibolite and Greenschist facies conditions, at 400-550°C and 1-3 kbar. The quasi-contemporary emplacement of metamorphic units with radically different thermal gradients is characteristic of “paired metamorphic belts”. In this case we propose the following model: at 29 Ma, during Alpine subduction, the units of the Ghomarides and Lower Sebtides are located within the upper plate of the subduction system where the MP-HT metamorphism develops. In parallel, the HP-LT metamorphism occurs within the lower plate constituted by the upper Sebtides. Dehydration of the lower plate induces calc-alkaline magmatism in the upper plate. At 21 Ma, the slab rollback produces an extension phase creating the opening of the Alboran basin and the exhumation of the HP-LT units., La chaîne Bético-Rifaine, située dans la partie occidentale de la Méditerranée, est le résultat de la convergence des plaques européenne et africaine et des processus de subduction qui en résultent. Il s’agit donc d’un lieu d’exception pour étudier les processus liés à la dynamique de la subduction. Cette thèse se focalise sur l’étude du domaine interne de la chaine du Rif. Deux zones d’étude ont été sélectionnées (Ceuta et Cabo Negro) où affleurent des roches crustales de haute pression-basse température (HP-BT) (seulement à Ceuta) mais aussi des roches de basse pression-haute température (BP-HT) ainsi que des roches ultrabasiques dont la signification tectonique, le mode et les âges de mise en place restent encore très débattus. Une approche multi-pluridisciplinaire a été effectuée pour réaliser ce travail, avec une étude structurale et pétrographique détaillée, ainsi que des datations U/Th/Pb sur zircon, monazite et xénotime et 40Ar/39Ar sur mica blanc. Les résultats obtenus démontrent que : (i) à environ 29 Ma un métamorphisme de moyenne pression-haute température (MP-HT) affecte les unités des Sebtides inférieures et Ghomarides. Cette phase est contemporaine d’un épaississement de la croûte et de la mise en place de sills de diorite ayant une signature géochimique d’arc magmatique calco-alcalin fortement potassique. Cette phase est d'autre part contemporaine du métamorphisme de HP-BT observé dans les unités crustales des Sebtides supérieures, (ii) à environ 21 Ma une phase d’extension contribue à l’exhumation finale de ces roches. Cet évènement est associé à un épisode métamorphique qui se développe à la limite des conditions des facies amphibolites et schistes verts, sous des conditions de 400-550°C et 1-3 kbar. La combinaison quasi-contemporaine d’unités métamorphiques de gradients thermiques radicalement différents est caractéristique des « ceintures métamorphiques appariées ». Dans ce cas nous proposons le modèle suivant : à 29 Ma, pendant la subduction Alpine, les unités des Ghomarides et Sebtides inférieures se situent au niveau de la plaque supérieure du système de subduction où se développe le métamorphisme de MP-HT. En parallèle le métamorphisme de HP-BT se manifeste dans le panneau plongeant constitué par les Sebtides supérieures. La déshydratation de la plaque plongeante induit un magmatisme calco-alcalin dans la plaque supérieure. A 21 Ma, le recul de la plaque plongeante produit une phase d’extension créant l’ouverture du bassin d’Alboran et l’exhumation des unités de HP-BT.

Chiva is a circular lagoon with a diameter of 900 m, located in the vicinity of the Catanda graben (Angola). This area is largely covered by Quaternary lacustrine sediments, however, a few dykes of carbonatiticcomposition have been found near the SE shore of the lagoon. The intrusion of these carbonatitic dykes has been linked to the occurrence of recent volcanic events in the Chiva area and interpreted as feeding channels of an eruptive centre with maar morphology. The Chiva carbonatitic dykes show a finely porphyritic texture formed by phenocrysts of subhedral calcite (60 %), apatite (30 %) and magnetite (10 %) hosted in a fine calcite-rich ground mass that also contains accessory minerals such as pyrochlore, perovskite and kimzeyite. The mineralogical and compositional features of the Chiva dykes are similar o those described in some of the carbonatitic lavas from the Catanda graben, suggesting that both volcanic events are genetically related. The finding of this new eruptive centre enlarges the carbonatitic domain of Catanda and opens the door to the discovery of new carbonatitic outcrops in this region of Western Angola. En las inmediaciones del graben de Catanda (Angola) se localiza una laguna circular de 900 metros de diámetro conocida como laguna de Chiva. Aunque éste área se encuentra mayoritariamente cubierta por sedimentos lacustres, hay afloramientos de un pequeño grupo de diques de composición carbonatítica en la orilla SE de la laguna. La intrusión de estos diques carbonatíticos se relaciona con el desarrollo de eventos volcánicos en la zona de Chiva y se interpreta como los antiguos canales de alimentación de un centro eruptivo que desarrolló una morfología de maar. Los diques carbonatíticos de Chiva presentan una típica textura porfídica formada por fenocristales subhedrales de calcita (60 %), apatito (30 %) y magnetita (10 %) implantados en una matriz de calcita de grano fino con cantidades accesorias de pirocloro, perovskita y kimzeyita. Las características mineralógicas y composicionales de los diques del maar de Chiva son equivalentes a las descritas en las lavas carbonatíticas del graben de Catanda, lo que sugiere que ambos procesos volcánicos están relacionados genéticamente. El hallazgo de este nuevo centro eruptivo amplía la zona de desarrollo del vulcanismo carbonatítico en Catanda y abre la puerta al posible descubrimiento de nuevos afloramientos carbonatíticos extrusivos en esta zona occidental de Angola.

Deception Island (South Shetland Islands) is one of the most active volcanoes in Antarctica, with more than 20 explosive eruptive events registered over the past two centuries. Recent eruptions (1967, 1969, and 1970) and the volcanic unrest episodes that happened in 1992, 1999, and 2014–2015 demonstrate that the occurrence of future volcanic activity is a valid and pressing concern for scientists, technical and logistic personnel, and tourists, that are visiting or working on or near the island. We present a unifying evolutionary model of the magmatic system beneath Deception Island by integrating new petrologic and geochemical results with an exhaustive database of previous studies in the region. Our results reveal the existence of a complex plumbing system composed of several shallow magma chambers (≤10 km depth) fed by magmas raised directly from the mantle, or from a magma accumulation zone located at the crust-mantle boundary (15–20 km depth). The Variscan cycle is characterized by a late-orogenic phase of high temperature (HT) in the whole belt. However, the nature and relative contribution of potential heat sources for the thermal anomaly are still debated. A careful assessment of (i) the spatial and temporal evolution of the thermal state of the crust, (ii) the chronology between metamorphism, magmas production and magmas transfer in the crust and (iii) the relationships between the late-orogenic tectonic evolution and the HT event is thus required. The Pyrenean segment is usually interpreted as a hot foreland during the Variscan orogeny. The Pyrenees are characterized by a moderate crustal thickening and a high temperature - low pressure (HT-LP) metamorphism associated with abundant late-orogenic magmatism and transpressional deformation of the crust. They are thus a prime target to study the late-variscan HT event. Pressure-temperature estimates were obtained by thermodynamical modelling in 4 massifs of the north-pyrenean zone (Saint Barthelemy, Bessede de Sault, Castillon and Ursuya). Results show a kinded geotherm at the paroxysm of the HT event with gradients higher than 80 °C/km in the upper part of the crust and near-isothermal conditions in the middle crust with temperature of about 800 °C. U-Pb data on zircon and monazite grains in metamorphic rocks highlight that the middle crust, which were affected by extensional deformation, remained hot and partially molten over 20 Myr from ca. 300 Ma to ca. 280 Ma. A north-south cross-section in the Central Pyrenees, coupled with Raman spectroscopy of carbonaceous materials allows to quantify the evolution of the temperature in the sedimentary cover deformed by transpression apart from the tectono-metamorphic domes. Paleozoic sediments recorded temperature higher than 500 °C. This indicates that the upper crust was affected by regional HT-BP metamorphism in the whole belt. Geochemical and geochronological (U-Pb on zircon) studies in the Chiroulet-Lesponne and Aston massifs evidence a mantle and crustal origin of magmas and show that magmatism is coeval to metamorphism with ages comprised between ca. 305 to ca. 290 Ma. Numerical modelling data confirm that HT-LT metamorphism appears as a response to enhanced mantle flux coupled with a heat transfer from the lower to middle crust and up to the upper crust by melt migration.; Le cycle varisque est caractérisé par une phase tardi-orogénique de haute température (HT) généralisée dans l'ensemble de la chaîne. International audience; Les débats scientifiques sont des moments privilégiés où la construction des savoirs peut être entamée. Cependant, il a été constaté que les traces de ce processus ont tendance, dans les séquences ordinaires et suite aux débats, à être oubliées au profit des solutions. Parmi les procédés didactiques permettant d’induire la problématisation, les caricatures construites à partir des productions de groupe et proposées aux élèves après le débat semblent jouer un rôle important. Pour étudier les fonctions de ces caricatures dans la construction de savoirs problématisés en sciences de la Terre, nous nous intéressons à 3 séances issues d’une séquence « forcée » préparée par une didacticienne et deux enseignantes expérimentées et portant sur le problème du magmatisme des zones de subduction en terminale S. Nous suivons l’évolution de la problématisation à partir de l’étude des textes oraux et écrits produits lors des séances. Il apparaît que, pour le cas étudié, le travail sur les caricatures permet de maintenir et de poursuivre la logique de problématisation non seulement suite au débat mais aussi après la phase de documentation scientifique.

The Miocene igneous activity in Lesser Kabylia includes a ~130 km-long EW-trending lineament that extends along the eastern Algerian margin from Kabylie de Collo to Ouest-Edough-Cap de Fer area. It includes mostly medium-K to High-K calc-alkaline plutonic and volcanic rocks. In the studied area, these magmatic rocks crosscut and/or overlie the inner zones of the Maghrebides represented by basement and Kabylian cretaceous and Numidian flyschs nappes. New U-Pb dating on zircons and K-Ar ages on whole rocks and separated minerals document a 17 Ma onset for the post-collisional K-rich calc-alkaline magmatism. These Upper Burdigalian ages obtained on the Bougaroun pluton are the oldest presently identified for Krich calc-alkaline rocks in the whole 1200 km-long EW trending magmatic belt located along the Mediterranean coast of Maghreb. However, according to new K-Ar ages, magmatic activity started in Ouest Edough zone at ~16 then persisted intermittently in the two studied areas at ~15.5 Ma, 14-13 Ma and stopped at ~11 Ma, with the emplacement of mafic and felsic dykes in Kabylie de Collo. In addition, we measured older (Upper Oligocene) Ar-Ar hornblende ages of 27.0 ± 3.0 Ma and 23.3 ± 3.2 Ma on LREE-depleted gabbros outcropping at Cap Bougaroun sensu stricto. According to our new geochemical and isotopic data, we distinguish two sources for magmatic rocks in the studied area: a depleted mantle source which could represent the ambient asthenosphere still not modified by the subduction processes at the time of emplacement of the Upper Oligocene LREE-depleted gabbros. The latter could be related to the Upper-Oligocene rifting before the back-arc crust formation in Algerian basin or to dyke systems or gabbroic intrusions crosscutting the stretched Kabylian continental crust. An enriched mantle source modified by a subduction component (melt or fluid) escaping from a northward-dipping subducted Tethyan oceanic lithosphere. The enriched mafic magmas are believed to come from this metasomatized mantle and are genetically related to the differentiated rocks through crystal fractionation and assimilation of large amounts of crustal lithologies, during their ascent through the African continental crust. We propose a tectono-magmatic model involving an Early Miocene Tethyan slab breakoff combined with delamination of the edges of the African and Kabylian continental lithospheres. At 17 Ma, the asthenospheric thermal flux upwelling through the slab tear induced the thermal erosion of the Kabylian lithospheric mantle metasomatized during the previous subduction event and triggered its partial melting. We attribute the strong trace element and isotopic crustal signature of Bougaroun felsic rocks to extensive interactions between ascending mafic melts and the African crust underthrust beneath the Kabylie de Collo basement.; L’activité magmatique miocène en Petite Kabylie s’exprime par la mise en place de roches plutoniques et volcaniques de composition majoritairement riche en K ainsi que moyennement riches en K. Ces roches forment des pointements dispersés sur près de 130 km le long de la marge méditerranéenne de l’Algérie. Dans les deux secteurs d’étude : la Kabylie de Collo et l’Ouest Edough-Cap de Fer, elles recoupent les empilements de nappes de socle et de flyschs crétacés et numidiens. De nouvelles datations U-Pb sur zircons et K-Ar sur roche totale et minéraux séparés ont permis de fixer à 17 Ma le début de l’activité magmatique post-collisionnelle à affinité calco-alcaline riche en K2O. Ces âges obtenus sur le batholithe granitique de Bougaroun (200 km2) sont les plus anciens jamais obtenus dans toute la Marge Méditerranéenne du Maghreb. L’activité magmatique s’étend vers l’Est et atteint la zone ouest-Edough-Cap de Fer vers ~16 Ma puis se poursuit de façon intermittente dans les deux secteurs d’étude à ~15 Ma, 14-13 Ma jusqu’à 11 Ma avec la mise en place de corps filoniens mafiques et felsiques en Kabylie de Collo. En outre, un âge oligocène supérieur (27.0 ± 3.0 Ma et 23.3 ± 3.2 Ma) a été mesuré par la méthode Ar/Ar sur amphiboles des gabbros à caractère océanique du Cap Bougaroun s.s (Kabylie de Collo). Les nouvelles données géochimiques et isotopiques ont permis de mettre en évidence deux sources pour le magmatisme dans les deux secteurs étudiés. Une première source mantellique appauvrie, non modifiée par un composant de subduction qui est à l’origine des gabbros à caractère océanique du Cap Bougaroun s.s et de Bou Maïza au Sud de l’Edough. Ceux-ci pourraient représenter des reliques du stade de rifting d’âge oligocène supérieur en prélude à l’ouverture en position arrière-arc du bassin algérien. Une deuxième source enrichie en terres rares légères et en éléments mobiles est représentée par le manteau lithosphérique subcontinental kabyle précédemment métasomatisé durant la subduction à vergence nord de la lithosphère océanique téthysienne au Paléogène. Les magmas mafiques enrichis en LREE issues de cette source ont ensuite évolué par cristallisation fractionnée et contamination crustale pour former les roches intermédiaires et felsiques de la marge est-algérienne. Nous proposons un modèle tectono-magmatique de rupture de slab téthysien associée à une délamination crustale au niveau des bordures des deux lithosphères continentales africaine et kabyle. A 17 Ma, le flux thermique d’origine asthénosphérique ascendant à travers la déchirure du slab téthysien induit la fusion du manteau téthysien. Les magmas mafiques calco-calcalins moyennement potassiques subissent des échanges chimiques avec le socle africain durant leur ascension à travers celui-ci, générant les magmas intermédiaires et felsiques calco-alcalins riches en K caractérisés par une importante signature crustale.

[eng] Seismic, deformation, and gas activity (unrest) typically precedes volcanic eruptions. Successful volcanic event forecasting depends on the quality of the surveillance network for detecting any changes in volcano behaviour. To interpret the geochemical and geophysical precursors correctly it is important to understand the volcanic processes that occur prior and during volcanic eruptions. Detailed knowledge of the volcano internal structure, the rheology of the magmas, the time scales of the processes occurring at depth and the characteristics of past unrest episodes, must be combined with an adequate monitoring network to improve the volcanic hazard forecast. However, these aspects have received little attention in monogenetic volcanoes. The aim of my PhD Thesis is to improve our understanding on monogenetic volcanism, its causes and dynamics, and to help anticipating the volcanic activity. I have focused on three main aspects of this problem. The first one is the calculation of the rheological properties of magmas during mixing. The second aspect I have addressed are the processes and time scales that lead to monogenetic eruptions with the aim to better interpret volcanic unrest and improve eruption forecasts. Finally, I have investigated the seismic unrest periods of historical monogenetic eruptions from a compilation of historical accounts worldwide. The results provide a conceptual framework for better anticipating monogenetic eruptions and should lead to improved strategies for mitigation of their associated hazards and risks., [spa] Las erupciones volcánicas están generalmente precedidas por la actividad sísmica, la deformación y la desgasificación (unrest). El éxito en la predicción del evento volcánico depende de la calidad de la red de vigilancia para detectar cualquier cambio en el comportamiento del volcán. Para interpretar los precursores geoquímicos y geofísicos correctamente es importante entender los procesos volcánicos que ocurren antes y durante las erupciones volcánicas. El conocimiento en detalle de la estructura interna del volcán, la reología de los magmas, las escalas de tiempo de los procesos que ocurren en profundidad y las características de los episodios pasados de unrest, debe combinarse con una red de vigilancia adecuada para mejorar el pronóstico de los eventos volcánicos. Sin embargo, estos aspectos han recibido poca atención en los volcanes monogenéticos. El objetivo de mi tesis doctoral es mejorar nuestra comprensión sobre el vulcanismo monogenético, sus causas y su dinámica, con el objetivo de mejorar la posibilidad de anticiparse a la actividad volcánica. Me he centrado en tres aspectos principales de este problema. El primero es el cálculo de las propiedades reológicas de los magmas durante los eventos de mezcla. El segundo aspecto es el estudio de los procesos, junto con sus escalas temporales, que llevan a erupciones monogenéticas con el fin de interpretar mejor la actividad volcánica y mejorar los pronósticos de una erupción. Por último, he investigado los períodos de unrest sísmico de erupciones monogenéticas históricas en todo el mundo mediante una compilación de documentos históricos. Los resultados proporcionan un marco conceptual que permite mejorar la predicción de erupciones monogenéticas y deberían conducir a mejores estrategias para mitigar sus peligros y riesgos asociados.

La Cuenca Oriente Ecuatoriana representa un extraordinario sistema natural, cuya armonía permea desde lo más profundo de su subsuelo, hasta la explosión de vida vegetal y animal que se desarrolla sobre un suelo, cuya morfología se caracteriza por relieves relativemente importantes con respecto a las demás cuencas de ante-país andinas. La alta densidad de información de subsuelo de la Cuenca Oriente, así como la presencia de afloramientos relativamente buenos en su margen occidental, han permitido desarrollar en el cuadro del convenio IRD PETROPRODUCCION varios estudios, a fin de precisar su marco estructural y su evolución geodinámica, conomientos indispensables para guiar las estrategias de exploración y de producción de hidrocarburos. Esto libro es una síntesis de los resultados geológicos obtenidos a partir de varios artículos escritos sobre la temática de la Cuenca Oriente, una parte de estos ya publicados y aprobados por la comunidad científica internacional. Aquí, se presenta una propuesta que intenta explicar, a la luz de los nuevos antecedentes encontrados, los procesos y elementos de la Cuenca Oriente, desde el Precretácico hasta el Presente, y en temas tan diversos como la caracterización del sistema petrolero, de la hidrosedimentología, del volcanismo y de la morfología, que son en su conjunto lo que nos entrega una mejor visión geodinámica y comprensión de la cuenca. Dada la importancia socio-económica de la actividad hidrocarburífera, se recrea el desarrollo histórico de la exploración petrolera de la cuenca, desde el conocimiento inicial de manaderos de crudo, hasta la etapa de madurez actual, con alrededor de 30 mil millones de barilles de petróleo en sitio, acumulados en más de cien campos descubiertos. Se presenta finalmente las características geológicas generales de los principales campos de Petroproducción.

Varios cuerpos ígneos alcalino-basálticos han sido identificados en la sección sedimentaria cretácica de la cuenca ecuatoriana oriente (≅ 110-80 ma). Los mismos están caracterizados por valores bajos en los radios LILE/HFSE y en los radios isotópicos de Sr y Nd, todos dentro del rango observado en las signaturas composicionales de basaltos de isla oceánica o punto caliente (“hot-spot”), consistentes con una fuente astenosférica. Sísmica de reflexión muestra que la ubicación de los distintos centros eruptivos es controlada por las estructuras pre-existentes del rift triásico-Jurásico invertido en un régimen transpresivo a partir del cretácico superior. edades radiométricas y el registro biostratigráfico de los sedimentos cretácicos sugieren una variación diacrónica de la posición geográfica de este volcanismo alcalino, ocurrido al menos a partir del albiano (40Ar/39K, 106±5Ma) en la parte septentrional de la Cuenca Oriente, y hasta el Campaniano (40Ar/39Ar, 84±2 Ma y 82±0,5 Ma) en la parte occidental-central (zona subandina).Se propone un mecanismo de “slab roll-back”, originado a partir de la cesación de los procesos de subducción en el Cretácico Inferior (≅130-120 Ma), como el modelo geodinámico más probable para explicar la generación de este magmatismo. El mismo está asociado con la migración lateral y vertical de material astenosférico hacia zonas previamente adelgazadas de la corteza o “thin-spots” litosféricos. Por lo tanto, el paleo-rift triásico-Jurásico ejerció un control fundamental en la generación de estos magmas alcalinos, facilitando la fusión parcial de una fuente astenosférica no afectada por procesos de subducción. Finalmente, la inversión tectónica del Cretácico Superior da lugar a la reactivación de las estructuras extensivas pre-existentes en un régimen transpresivo, lo que originó la migración del magmatismo hacia el sur-suroeste principalmente a lo largo del Corredor Sacha-Sushufindi de la Cuenca Oriente.

In Dabakala region located in the northeastern part of Côte d'Ivoire, the birimian crust of West Africa displays three volcano-Sedimentary series: the Upper Comoé serie to the east, and the Upper N'Zi and Fettêkro series to the west. These three volcano-Sedimentary series are NNE-SSW oriented and enclose an important granitic mass dated to 2.1 Ga; thus constituting a granitic ridge bordered by two volcano-Sedimentary trenches.Petrographic and geochemical data show that these pyroclastic rocks have basalts, andesites, andesite basalts, dacites, rhyolites and rhyodacites compositions. Metabasites are generally subalkaline to peralkaline and show their source composition between those of N- MORB and E- MORB. Fettêkro serie basalts, with La / Yb values between 1.43 to 1.83 and La values between 2.21 to 5.6, are close to average of Nauru basalts and belts’ mafic. Their magmatic source would be spinel lherzolite type, with probably possible crustal contamination in an environment of implementing intra -Oceanic environment with building oceanic plateaus. Andesites show an affinity to continental and mature island arcs basalts, corresponding to a subduction model with crustal delamination. Acid volcanics are implemented in a volcanic arcs context and follow a calc-Alkaline suite.The plutonic rocks of the Dabakala region are composed to pegmatite, alkali and natural granite, granodiorite, diorite and gabbro. These rocks correspond to syn-Collisional volcanic arc plutonites, and are probably related to a calc-Alkaline magmatism of active margins. Metasediments generally defer in the field of continental island arcs.Structurally, the Dabakala region has major fractures directions oriented NS to NNE-SSW sinistral for most (older), N90° to N100° dextral (latest), NW-SE to NNW-SSE dextral or sinistral. A significant structure, oriented N075° to N080° is identified for the first time: the Sarala fault (FSr). The structural map of the Bobosso gold prospect generally indicates a strong development of NNE-SSW lineaments cut by NW-SE lineaments. The first ones draw a first order megastructure called Bobosso Tectonic Zone (ZTB), containing multiple secondary structures or mineralized lenses.Concerning gold mineralization, the Bobosso prospect (Upper-Comoé serie) has a polyphase deformation with brittle deformation as manifested in several ways. The latter is the cause of the formation of several generations of quartz veins. Gold mineralization presents mainly a structural control by quartz veins, related to the development of intrusions in basalts and andesites.. Two types of mineralization may be mentioned: disseminated and vein. This bimodal distribution of gold has also been highlighted in the Ashanti belt deposits in Ghana and several gold deposits known worldwide.Disseminated mineralization is syngenetic and relies on the existence of high grade in sections of surveys without quartz vein. The vein mineralization is evidently epigenetic. The highest grades were obtained in sections showing the presence of lenses, veins and quartz veins, tourmaline ± calcite ± sulfides. The metalliferous paragenesis consists essentially of pyrite, but pyrrhotite, chalcopyrite and arsenopyrite with presence of magnetite and hematite. Gold is not visible, even in the drill sections with the highest grades.We retain two main phases of mineralization in the Bobosso gold prospect: 1) a first phase (SEDEX type) occurred while opening rear arc basins. It occurs mainly in the metasediments and 2) a second phase (hydrothermal) related to the implementation of various granitoids in the metasediments and volcanics when closing pools at the end of the eburnean orogeny. Vein mineralization shows higher grades of gold., IDans la région de Dabakala située au Nord-Est de la Côte d’Ivoire, la croûte birimienne de l’Afrique de l’Ouest comporte trois séries volcano-Sédimentaires, toutes orientées NNE-SSW: celle de la Haute Comoé à l’est, celles du Haut-N’Zi et de Fettêkro à l’ouest. Elles constituent l’encaissant d’importants massifs granitiques datés à 2,1 Ga, l'ensemble formant une ride granitique bordée par deux sillons volcano-Sédimentaires.Les données pétrographiques et géochimiques montrent que les volcanites présentent des variations de composition continues de basalte à rhyolite. Les métabasites, subalcalins à alcalins montrent une source de type lherzolite à spinelle, avec une possible contamination crustale. Leur environnement de mise en place serait un contexte de subduction. Les andésites montrent une affinité avec les arcs insulaires continentaux matures, suggérant un modèle de subduction avec délamination crustale. Les volcanites acides, également mises en place dans un contexte d’arc volcanique, terminent la lignée calco-Alcaline.Les plutonites de la région de Dabakala, comprenant des massifs de pegmatite, granite, granodiorite, diorite, tonalite et trondhjémite, sont liées à des arcs volcaniques et caractérisent un magmatisme calco-Alcalin de marge active. Les métasédiments se reportent quant à eux dans le champ des arcs insulaires continentaux.Au plan structural, la région de Dabakala présente des directions de fractures majeures orientées N-S à NNE-SSW senestres pour la plupart (les plus anciennes), N90° à N100° dextres (les plus récentes), NW-SE dextres ou senestres. Une structure significative, de direction N075° à N080° est identifiée pour la première fois: la faille de Sarala (FSr). La carte structurale du prospect aurifère de Bobosso indique globalement un fort développement des linéaments NNE-SSW recoupés par des linéaments NW-SE. Les premiers dessinent une mégastructure de premier ordre dénommée Zone Tectonique de Bobosso (ZTB), abritant plusieurs structures secondaires avec des lentilles minéralisées.Concernant la minéralisation aurifère, le prospect de Bobosso dans la série de la Haute-Comoé présente une déformation polyphasée avec une déformation cassante à l’origine de la formation de plusieurs générations de veines de quartz. La minéralisation aurifère présente un contrôle structural principalement marqué par les filons de quartz liés à la mise en place d’intrusions dans les basaltes et les andésites. Il existe deux types de minéralisations: une disséminée et l’autre filonienne. Cette distribution bimodale de l’or a été également mise en évidence dans les gisements de la ceinture Ashanti au Ghana et dans plusieurs gisements aurifères mondialement connus.La minéralisation disséminée serait syngénétique, d'après l’existence de teneurs élevées dans les sections de sondages sans aucun filon de quartz. La minéralisation filonienne est évidemment épigénétique. Les teneurs les plus élevées ont été obtenues dans les zones de sondages montrant la présence de lentilles, veines et filons de quartz, calcite ± tourmaline ± sulfures. La paragenèse métallifère est essentiellement constituée de pyrite, mais également de pyrrhotite, chalcopyrite et d’arsénopyrite, avec présence de magnétite et d’hématite. L'or n’est jamais visible à l’oeil nu, même dans les sections de forage présentant les plus fortes teneurs.Nous pouvons retenir une principale phase de minéralisation dans le prospect aurifère. Elle est de type hydrothermal et liée à la mise en place de granitoïdes dans les métasédiments et les volcanites lors de la fermeture des bassins à la fin de l’orogenèse éburnéenne. La minéralisation filonienne montre de plus fortes teneurs en Or.

[spa] El vulcanismo monogenético se caracteriza por una gran diversidad de estilos eruptivos, morfologías y depósitos. Los tipos de edificios que se forman son el resultado de una compleja combinación de parámetros que rigen la física de la erupción. La atención de este trabajo se centra en la relación entre los edificios volcánicos monogenéticos y las variables externas que influyen en la dinámica de las erupciones (es decir, magmatismo vs freatomagmatismo) a través de un punto de vista multidisciplinar, en ambientes continentales y marinos en los que el vulcanismo puede desarrollar. Diferentes estudios, representativos de este tipo de actividad en diferentes entornos geográficos y geológicos, se han llevado a cabo. El primer ejemplo corresponde al volcán de La Crosa de Sant Dalmai (Campo Volcánico de La Garrotxa) donde se han reconstruido las condiciones hidrogeológicas del sustrato y la implicación para la dinámica eruptiva. Como segundo caso de estudio, se ha realizado una estratigrafía de detalle del cono de toba de El Golfo (Lanzarote, Islas Canarias), donde se han estudiado los mecanismos de emplazamiento de los depósitos para inferir cambios en la interacción magma/agua. Otro tipo de erupción se ha investigado en el mismo archipiélago, en la Isla de El Hierro, determinando las características físicas de un episodio félsico de origen hidrovolcánico ocurrido en una isla que se caracteriza esencialmente por el vulcanismo basáltico tanto Estromboliano como Hawaiiano. Por último, este mismo tipo de metodología se ha aplicado a la Isla Decepción (archipiélago de las Shetland del Sur, Antártida), estableciendo los parámetros físicos de la erupción del 1970 con el fin de comparar este episodio con el evento anterior del 1967, y deducir sus consecuencias para llevar a cabo la evaluación de peligrosidad en la isla. Los resultados obtenidos pueden ser aplicados a campos volcánicos monogenéticos en todo el mundo y, por tanto, son útiles para reconstruir la evolución de ciertos campos volcánicos, a través del estudio de volcanes monogenéticos individuales, para evaluar los posibles riesgos volcánicos, teniendo en cuenta como erupciones similares representan una grave amenaza, que es a menudo subestimada., [eng] Monogenetic volcanism is characterized by a large diversity of eruptive styles, morphologies and deposits. Monogenetic landforms are the result of a complex merging of internal (magma composition, vesiculation) and external (geological setting, fracturation, hydrogeology, substrate stratigraphy, etc) parameters that govern the physics of the eruptions. Changes in these parameters may cause variations in the eruption style several times during the course of such short-lived volcanoes. Monogenetic volcanoes may form in any type of geological environment with scoria cones being the most common volcano type and hydrovolcanic tuff rings, tuff cones, and maars as the second in abundance. These small-volume volcanoes are generally the result of short-lived eruptions but the activity in a monogenetic volcanic field might exceed the total life of composite volcanoes. The attention of this work was focused on the relation between monogenetic volcanic landforms and the external variables that influenced the dynamics of the eruptions (i.e. magmatism vs phreatomagmatism) through a multidisciplinary perspective, in marine and continental geological settings under which monogenetic volcanism may develop. Different case studies representative of this type of activity and of these different environments have been considered. The first one corresponds to the La Crosa De Sant Dalmai volcano (Garrotxa Volcanic Field, southern sector of the Catalan Volcanic Zone), a roughly circular asymmetrical maar-diatreme volcano, which is one of the most characteristic volcanic edifices of this continental monogenetic volcanic field and the largest Quaternary volcanic crater on the Iberian Peninsula. This edifice is an example of monogenetic landform, mostly composed of phreatomagmatic deposits with subordinate Strombolian phases, constructed on a mixed basement made of hard Paleozoic granites and schists rocks and soft Plio-Quaternary deposits. Here, I reconstructed the hydrogeological conditions of the substrate and the implication for the eruptive dynamics. As a second case study, I carried out detailed stratigraphic and sedimentological studies of the succession of El Golfo tuff cone (Lanzarote, Canary Islands). The main objective of the work was to describe in detail the structure and association of facies of this edifice and use this information to infer changes in eruption style and depositional processes. Another type of eruption was studied in the same archipelago at El Hierro, an island essentially characterized by basaltic volcanism with both Strombolian and Hawaiian activity. Here I reported the stratigraphic, lithological, sedimentological and petrographic characteristics of a felsic hydrovolcanic episode in order to discuss, transport/depositional mechanisms, dynamics, relative age and implications for hazard assessment on the island. Finally, the same type of methodology was applied at Deception Island (Southern Shetland Archipelago, Antarctica), determining the lithological and sedimentological characteristics, and clasts distribution (isopach and isopleth maps) of the eruption of 1970. This information was, then, used to determine depositional processes, eruption style and physical parameters (i.e. plume height, erupted volume, VEI) of the eruption in order to compare this episode with the previous 1967 episode, and to deduce their implications to conduct hazard assessment at the island. Each work represents a diverse aspect of hydrovolcanism and the results obtained helped to better understand the eruptive behavior of this type of volcanoes, which is a fundamental task in order to understand the possible future hazards associated with this type of volcanism. The results obtained can be applied to monogenetic volcanic fields worldwide and are, therefore, useful to reconstruct the evolution of a certain volcanic fields, through the study of single monogenetic volcanoes, and to evaluate the possible volcanic hazards, as similar eruptions represent a serious threat, which is often underestimated. A more systematic study is, thus, needed in order to understand the role of shallow-level conditions in the formation of specific volcano types in such complex volcanic fields.

The Oman ophiolite offers the possibility to study mantle rocks which are inaccessible at mid-ocean ridges. The presence of five on-axis diapirs and an off-axis diapir allows comparison of magmatic processes occurring in these different settings. The Moho Transition Zone is dominated by dunite in both cases, but off-axis includes massive pyroxenites instead of layered gabbro. The off-axis diapir is surrounded by gabbroic intrusions in the crust and mantle, which are not found elsewhere in the ophiolite. While the on-axis samples have eNd values similar to those of MORB, all of the off-axis rocks have less radiogenic Nd suggesting a larger contribution from melting of pyroxenite veins in the off-axis source. The abundance of clinopyroxene in the off-axis MTZ results from the reaction between the pyroxenite-derived melts and the depleted harzburgite of the lithosphere, which explains the highly depleted incompatible trace element compositions of the clinopyroxenes. The presence of water from the hydrated lithosphere favors the crystallization of clinopyroxene instead of plagioclase, which should normally appear at this depth in the MTZ, as is the case on-axis. The gabbroic intrusions in the mantle and crust surrounding the off-axis diapir crystallized from the residual magma produced by the interaction between the pyroxenite-derived melts and the harzburgite. The off-axis diapir could be viewed as an analog to seamounts currently found near fast-spreading ridges, and could provide information on their internal structure. More generally, this study provides compelling evidence for the existence of pyroxenite veins in the asthenospheric mantle beneath mid-ocean ridges, L'ophiolite d'Oman permet d'observer les roches mantelliques inaccessibles aux dorsales. Avec cinq diapirs à l'axe (dont Maqsad) et un diapir hors-axe (Mansah), elle permet d'étudier les processus magmatiques en jeu dans les diapirs au niveau de la Zone de Transition au Moho, qui est différente entre les deux types de diapirs avec hors-axe des pyroxénites dans la dunite à la place de gabbros lités à l'axe. Le diapir de Mansah est entouré d'intrusions gabbroïques dans le manteau et la croûte. Les roches hors-axe ont des valeurs d'eNd plus faibles que celles à l'axe qui ont des compositions similaires aux MORB, suggérant une source des liquides plus riche en veines de pyroxénite hors-axe. Les eNd montrent aussi que les pyroxénites et les intrusions gabbroïques sont une suite magmatique. L'abondance de clinopyroxenes hors-axe provient de la réaction entre des liquides provenant de la fusion de veines de pyroxénites avec la harzburgite appauvrie de la lithosphère, ce qui donne à ces clinopyroxènes des compositions appauvries en éléments traces. La présence d'eau provenant de la lithosphère hydratée favorise la cristallisation de ces clinopyroxènes à la place du plagioclase qui doit normalement apparaître à cette profondeur dans la MTZ, ce qui est le cas à l'axe. Le diapir hors-axe pourrait fournir une analogie aux seamounts que l'on trouve actuellement à proximité des dorsales rapides et faire la lumière sur les interactions entre la lithosphère appauvrie et le matériel ascendant hors-axe, ainsi que sur les structures internes de ces seamounts. Ce travail offre des évidences probantes pour l'existence de veines de pyroxénites dans le manteau asthénosphérique sous les dorsales

The present-day crustal structure of the Andean chain results from deformation processes and magmatic activity since the onset of subduction. One line of investigation to resolve questions about the mechanism of crustal thickening is to get information about the composition of the crust and upper-mantle by imaging the structures in velocity and Poisson's ratio (or Vp/Vs). A high density seismic network was operated during six months in 1994 across the whole Andean chain. The P and S travel times of the best located local earthquakes, mainly situated in the subduction zone, have been inverted for Vp and Vp/Vs using Thurber's 3D iterative simultaneous inversion method. The resulting models, giving short-scale information about the crustal and upper-mantle composition, provide new limits on the respective involvement of crustal shortening and magmatism in the thickening of the Andean crust. Beneath the Western Cordillera, the seismic properties are well explained by typical active volcanic arc processes, and the thickening of the crust is explained by magmatic addition. Conversely, beneath the Central Altiplano Basin and the Eastern Cordillera, our results preclude significant volume of magmatic addition from the mantle and reinforce crustal shortening as the main thickening process. Moreover, cratonic lower crust and subcontinental lithospheric upper-mantle are observed under the Eastern Cordillera up to 67°W, evidence of the underthrusting of the Brazilian craton, which drives the crustal shortening. Beneath the Central Altiplano Basin, a thin lithospheric mantle is observed above a well marked asthenospheric wedge which extends in depth below the western part of the Eastern Cordillera. Thus partial melt is observed in the shallow mantle west of the Western Cordillera up to the Brazilian craton.

Tungurahua, one of Ecuador's most active volcanoes, is made up of three volcanic edifices. Tungurahua I was a 14-km-wide andesitic stratocone which experienced at least one sector collapse followed by the extrusion of a dacite lava series. Tungurahua II, mainly composed of acid andesite lava flows younger than 14,000 years BP, was partly destroyed by the last collapse event, 2955±90 years ago, which left a large amphitheater and produced a ∼8-km3 debris deposit. The avalanche collided with the high ridge immediately to the west of the cone and was diverted to the northwest and southwest for ∼15 km. A large lahar formed during this event, which was followed in turn by dacite extrusion. Southwestward, the damming of the Chambo valley by the avalanche deposit resulted in a ∼10-km-long lake, which was subsequently breached, generating another catastrophic debris flow. The eruptive activity of the present volcano (Tungurahua III) has rebuilt the cone to about 50% of its pre-collapse size by the emission of ∼3 km3 of volcanic products. Two periods of construction are recognized in Tungurahua's III history. From ∼2300 to ∼1400 years BP, high rates of lava extrusion and pyroclastic flows occurred. During this period, the magma composition did not evolve significantly, remaining essentially basic andesite. During the last ∼1300 years, eruptive episodes take place roughly once per century and generally begin with lapilli fall and pyroclastic flow activity of varied composition (andesite+dacite), and end with more basic andesite lava flows or crater plugs. This pattern is observed in the three historic eruptions of 1773, 1886 and 1916–1918. Given good age control and volumetric considerations, Tungurahua III growth's rate is estimated at ∼1.5×106 m3/year over the last 2300 years. Although an infrequent event, a sector collapse and associated lahars constitute a strong hazard of this volcano. Given the ∼3000 m relief and steep slopes of the present cone, a future collapse, even of small volume, could cover an area similar to that affected by the ∼3000-year-old avalanche. The more frequent eruptive episodes of each century, characterized by pyroclastic flows, lavas, lahars, as well as tephra falls, directly threaten 25,000 people and the Agoyan hydroelectric dam located at the foot of the volcano.

In this thesis we quantify the interactions between tectonic and magmatic processes in the active Dabbahu rift segment, which experienced in 2005 a major rifting event. Here, we provide accurate constraints at this time scale by producing cosmogenic exposure ages of lavas surfaces and faults scarps, in order to decipher the morphological evolution of a rift depression, and to identify the processes that are responsible for the topography acquisition. The study is based on samples taken on two separate areas of the rift. The field areas were systematically mapped, and all lavas were chemically analysed in major and trace elements. The first studied focused the northern portion of the rift segment, where the lavas of the segment terminating volcano meets the neo-volcanic zone. This area allowed the influence of the presence of such volcanic edifice to be assessed. The second studied area is located at the middle of the segment, and covers the rift western margin up to the rift axis. The topography in this area is sensitive to the evolution in space and time of the location of the different axial magma reservoirs. Our results show that along the rift segment, topography develops during phases of low magmatic activity, and is inhibited during phases of lower magmatic activity. The 2005 appears to be an unusual event that represents about a tenth of the total intrusions necessary to build the depression. The maintaining of magmatic accretion at the axis seems to be the result of a relay between different magma reservoirs. The position of these reservoirs can vary between 0 and 15 km from both sides of the rift axis; Dans cette thèse nous quantifions les interactions entre phénomènes tectoniques et magmatiques au niveau d'un rift proche de la rupture continentale: celui du Dabbahu / Manda Hararo en Afar (Ethiopie), qui a été le siège d'un épisode de rifting majeur en 2005. Nos observations ont permis de monter que l'épisode de rifting de 2005 n'est pas représentatif de l'évolution globale de la morphologie du rift, et que ce type d'intrusion ne représente sans doute qu'un dixième des injections totales. Enfin, l'accrétion magmatique est soutenue à l'axe par différents réservoirs magmatiques qui semblent se relayer dans le temps, et dont la position peut varier de 15 kilomètres de part et d'autre de l'axe

The Garrotxa Volcanic Field (GVF) is a Quaternary monogenetic volcanic field belonging to the NE Spain volcanic province, recording a Neogene alkaline intraplate magmatic activity consequence of the rift-type extensional tectonics that has affected the eastern margin of Iberia since late Oligocene.

International audience; La seconde moitié du XXe siècle a été marquée par une vive controverse entre « magmatistes » et « transformistes », puis « solidistes », sur l’origine du granite (« pontiffs » contre « soaks »). L’origine de cette dispute, qui a dépassé le cadre scientifique pour prendre un tour personnel, remonte aux siècles précédents (neptunisme contre plutonisme), mais a surtout été initiée, à la fin de la Seconde Guerre mondiale, par la redécouverte d’une longue tradition française par les pétrographes anglais. La victoire apparemment définitive des magmatistes au début des années 1960 a jeté un discrédit marqué sur les idées métasomatiques, confinées aux phénomènes de contact et à la métallogénie. Celles-ci ont toutefois refait surface à propos de la genèse des granulites, avec une nouvelle controverse (« vapor-absent melting » ou « fluidassisted dehydration »), mais cette fois dans un contexte apaisé et scientifiquement positif. Le résultat est un retour actuel des idées métasomatiques, concernant notamment les roches de la croûte continentale profonde et du manteau supérieur, et la remise de la pétrographie sur une voie qu’elle n’aurait jamais dû quitter.

The evolution of the Cenozoic deformation of the Cordillera Oriental and of the contact zone with the Altiplano in southern Bolivia is well documented in the Tupiza, Nazareno and Estarca basins. The tectonic evolution started at about 29 Ma. The period between 29 and about 22-21 Ma is marked by developement of a pull-apart basin related to N-S trending left-lateral strike-slip faulting. During this period, initial deposition consisted of andesitic lavas and detrital sediments (breccias ; matrix-supported red conglomerats ; sands and silts...) of the Catati and Tupiza Formation, deposited in alluvial fan and flood plain environments. From 21 to 20 Ma, the tectonic setting evolved to N-S oriented thrusts, which had a dextral component. This event caused the Tupiza basin to evolve into a full-ramp basin, and triggered the developement of two piggy-back basins : Nazareno and Estarca. Both basins record detrital deposition (Nazareno Formation) in an alluvial fan environment. At 10-9 Ma, deformation in this area stopped allowing peneplanation during which time the San Juan de Oro erosional surface was formed and the fluvial conglomerates of the Oploca Formation were deposited. This segment of the Andes was then tectonically transported to the east, while uplift due to thrusting continued in the eastern Andean front and in the Subandean zone. (Résumé d'auteur)

The tectonic phases, subsidence patterns and location of the magmatic arc along the Peruvian margin during Late Cretaceous and Paleogene times are compared with the main geodynamic parameters: absolute plate motion; convergence velocity and direction; age of the subducted slab; and accretional events for the same periods. During the Late Cretaceous, long-termed compression seems to be controlled by the absolute trenchward motion of the overriding plate, and, to a minor extent, by the young age of the subducted lithosphere. Short-lived contractional or extensional phases are mainly linked to the acceleration or deceleration of the convergence between the oceanic and continental plates, and probably to changes in the convergence direction. Periods of high and low convergence rates coincide with increased and decreased subsidence rates along the margin, respectively, and seem to be independent of compressional-tensional regimes. During the Paleogene, in addition to the mentioned processes, the eastward shift of the magmatic belt and subsidence in the forearc zone are interpreted as the result of the subduction erosion of the margin. This process seems to be related to the decrease of the dip of the Benioff zone, expressed by the drastic widening of the magmatic arc.

International audience; Trace-element and REE data of glass and pumices of acidic tuffs and related fall deposits erupted in southern Peru and northern Bolivia between 20 and 0.36 Ma display typical characteristics of subduction related continental arc magmatism of the CVZ with strong LILE/HFSE enrichment and non enrichment of HREE and Y. Geochemical variations of these tuffs are linked to subduction processes and controlled by changes in tectonic regimes which occured with each Quechua tectonic pulse and affected the astenospheric wedge and both the dowgoing and the overriding lithospheres. During Neogene — Pleistocene times, tuffs erupted in northern Bolivia are typically enriched in Zr, Hf, Th, Ba, LREEs and other incompatible elements and incompatible /Yb ratios are much higher relative to those erupted from southern Peru, at a given SiO2 content (65–67 wt. for dacites, 72–73 wt.% for rhyolites). ZrHf ratios increase eastward from 27 to 30 and CeJbN ratios from 11 to 19 reflecting the variation of degree of wedge contribution. Fractionation of the LREE over the HREE and fractionation of incompatible elements may be due to their heterogeneous distribution in the magma source. More highly fractionated REE patterns of Bolivian tuffs than Peruvian tuffs are attributed to variable amounts of contamination of magmas by lower crust. After the Quechua compressional event at ~7 Ma, SrY ratios of tuffs of the same age, erupted at 150–250 km or 250–400 km from the Peru-Chile trench, increase from southern Peru to northern Bolivia. These differences may be attributed to the subduction of a swarm oceanic lithosphere under the Bolivian Alti-plano, leading to partial melting of the sudbucted lithosphere. New FT dating of obsidian fragments of the sillar of Arequipa at 2.42 ± 0.11 Ma. This tuff dates the last Quechua compressional upper Pliocene phase (~2.5 Ma) and confirms that the sillar is not contemporaneous with the Toba 76 tuff or the Perez ignimbrite of northern Bolivia. Geochemical characteristics of tuffs erupted before and after this last compressional phase remained the same and provide evidence that the upper Miocene (~7 Ma) compressional deformations played the most important role on the variability of the geochemical characteristics of the southern Peruvian and northern Bolivian tuffs.

[eng] During the Cenozoic the western Mediterranean area underwent a complex geodynamic evolution driven by the interaction between the African and Eurasian plates. The Corsica- Sardinia microplate played a central role in this evolution, which was recorded by its tectonic evolution and volcanism. During Oligo-Miocene the roll-back of the NW-wards subducting ,Apulian subduction zone caused the Corsica-Sardinia microplate to detach, drift and rotate from the European continental margin to its present position, opening the Liguro-Provençal Basin and generating abundant subduction-related calc-alkaline orogenic volcanism. After a 6 Ma-long pause in retreat, subsequent evolution of the roll-back since Pliocene left Sardinia in its current position as the trench retreated SE-ward opening the southern Tyrrhenian basin. Extensional tectonics related to this opening produced in Sardinia the generation of abundant anorogenic alkaline volcanism. In the Sulcis area, in SW Sardinia, a special volcanic suite was produced which began sharing the same calc-alkaline characteristics as the rest of the subduction-related volcanism throughout Sardinia, forming an andesitic lava domes and flows piling, but that later migrated to different compositions, mildly alkaline, including the rarely occurring peralkaline volcanism, which formed a mainly rhyolitic ignimbritic succession. In spite of the marked differences of the Sulcis magmatism, this special volcanic suite was considered to be only one more manifestation of the widespread subduction-generated orogenic volcanism of Sardinia. The present work has, at least partially, solved this situation. A thorough and detailed study of the Sulcis Oligo-Miocene volcanic suite has been carried out in this study involving the revision of the available data on volcanostratigraphy and cartography and the characterization of the geochemistry, petrography and mineral chemistry of the several units present in this suite, which has allowed us to obtain significant information on the petrogenesis of this suite and its geodynamic significance. As a result of the field and laboratory work all units have been characterised from the volcanostratigraphic, petrographic and geochemical point of view. A methodology for unit recognition based on whole rock geochemistry has been developed, which has been a fundamental tool for solving volcanostratigraphic and mapping doubts during the development of this work, and remains a powerful tool for future studies. The study of the whole rock geochemistry data has allowed us to obtain significant information on the generation of the magmas that formed the Sulcis volcanic suite and its geodynamic significance, and combination with petrographic observations has provided valuable information on the evolution of these magmas from its formation to its eruption. Isotope and trace element data have revealed the structure of the mantle beneath Sardinia, which is diffusely stratified with an upper part with an EMI signature and a lower more EARlike region, both of them having an OIB mantle source-like composition. Subduction during Oligo-Miocene released into the mantle wedge hydrous fluids and partial melts carrying sediment and MORB isotope and trace element compositions, which metasomatised this mantle, introducing mostly into the more EAR-like mantle a subduction signature. The Oligo-Miocene orogenic magmas in Sardinia, including the andesitic lower sequence in the Sulcis, were produced in the subduction-modified more EAR-like mantle portion by lowering of the melting temperature due to the input of subduction fluids. Magmas from the ignimbritic sequence in the Sulcis, though, are considered to represent a transition from orogenic to anorogenic magmatism. It is suggested that the transition was due to a change in the melting mechanism from fluid- to extension-controlled, related to the cessation in the subduction influence below the Sulcis. The mechanism proposed to explain the contemporaneous occurrence of both orogenic and anorogenic magmatisms in Sardinia during the emplacement of the Sulcis ignimbritic suite is the formation of a slab break-off which started south of Sardinia and progressed northward opening a slab window. The ignimbritic sequence in the Sulcis was formed by the arrival and differentiation of several magma batches with slightly different initial compositions, apparently at least one for each unit except for Lenzu and Seruci units, which formed by evolution of the magma that generated the immediately preceding units. Magma differentiation was dominated by crystal fractionation processes, which produced similar evolutionary trends, assimilation having a very small effect only appreciable in Pb isotopes., [cat] Durant l’Oligo-Miocè el funcionament en roll-back de la subducció sota el marge continental europeu de l’oest Mediterrani va provocar el desenganxament de la microplaca Sard-Corsa d’aquest marge i la seva migració primer amb una translació cap al SE i posteriorment amb una rotació en sentit antihorari fins a assolir la seva posició actual. Associada a aquest desplaçament es va produir l’obertura de la conca Liguro-Provençal en posició de back-arc. Com a resultat de la subducció es va produir abundant magmatisme calco-alcalí d’afinitat orogènica a l’illa de Sardenya. A la zona del Sulcis, al SW de Sardenya, el magmatisme va compartir inicialment les mateixes característiques que la resta del magmatisme sard, formant un apilament de doms i colades làviques de composicions andesítiques. Però cap als estadis finals del cicle magmàtic, els magmes generats van migrar de composició, donant lloc a un apilament d’unitats ignimbrítiques amb composicions majoritàriament riolítiques de transicionals a lleugerament alcalines. Malgrat la marcada diferència composicional entre la seqüència ignimbrítica del Sulcis i la resta del magmatisme Oligo-Miocè sard, aquesta va ser considerada com un exemple més d’aquest magmatisme. Per resoldre en part aquesta situació s’ha realitzat aquesta tesi. En aquest estudi s’ha revisat la seqüència vulcanoestratigràfica descrita així com les cartografies existents per tal de realitzar un mostreig sistemàtic de la seqüència ignimbrítica. L’estudi de les mostres recollides ha permès caracteritzar totes les unitats que formen la seqüència des del punt de vista de petrogràfic i geoquímic. Les dades obtingudes han permès desenvolupar una metodologia per al reconeixement de les unitats ignimbrítiques en base a la geoquímica de roca total, així com abordar l’estudi de la petrogènesi d’aquesta associació magmàtica. S’ha obtingut informació sobre l’àrea font dels magmes, que ha pogut ser caracteritzada, sobre els mecanismes de formació dels magmes estudiats i el seu significat geodinàmic, i sobre els processos que van controlar l’evolució dels magmes des de la seva formació fins a la seva expulsió en superfície en forma de materials volcànics.

The Vosges Mountains are characterized by the presence of numerous magmatic intrusions and extrusions of varied affinities. Accordingly, they constitute the best site to investigate, by dating and geochemistry, the evolution of the events affecting this segment of the Variscan orogeny. Two successions of identical magmatic events, shifted in the time, are identified, characterizing both Moldanubian (360 to 320 Ma) and the Saxothuringian (335 to 295 Ma) domains. These successions of magmatic events result of two major process. The progress of subducted and underplated continental crusts at Moho depth under continental blocks permits to shift from calc-alkaline to high potassic calc-alkaline magmatism. The radiogenic heat production from latter underplated continental crusts, in a first time, permits to generate magnesio-potassic magmas at depth. Then, this radiogenic heat permits to generate crustal magmas by intrusion of magnesio-potassic magmas rich in K, U and Th at mid-upper crust boundarie. These successions of magmatic events and particularly, the presence of the magnesio-potassic granites, imply a strong link between the Vosges Mts. and the eastern part of the Variscan orogeny (Black Forest, Bohemian Massif, the Alps and Corsica Batholith).; Les Vosges sont caractérisées par la présence de nombreuses intrusions et extrusions magmatiques d’affinités variées. Elles constituent donc un excellent site d’étude pour contraindre, par la datation et la géochimie, l’évolution des évènements de ce segment de l’orogène Varisque. Ce travail révèle ainsi deux successions d’évènements magmatiques identiques, décalées dans le temps, caractérisent les domaines Moldanubien (360 à 320 Ma) et Saxothuringien (335 à 295 Ma). Ces successions d’évènements magmatiques résultent de deux processus majeurs. L’avancée des croûtes continentales subduites et sous-plaquées au niveau du Moho sous les blocs continentaux permet le passage du magmatisme calco-alcalin au magmatisme calco-alcalin riche en potassium. L’apport de chaleur par désintégration des éléments radiogéniques (K, U et Th) présents dans ces croûtes continentales subduites permet, dans un premier temps, la formation du magmatisme magnésio-potassique en profondeur. Dans un second temps, elle permet la formation du magmatisme d’origine crustale par l’intrusion du magmatisme magnésio-potassique, riche en K, U et Th, à la limite croûte moyenne - croûte supérieure. Ces successions d’évènements magmatiques et particulièrement, la présence des granites magnésio-potassiques, relient clairement les Vosges à la partie Est de l’orogène Varisque (Forêt Noire, Massif de Bohème, Alpes et Corse-Sardaigne).

Our study focuses on knowledge texts (oral and written) produced in a regular sequence (in fourth grade class) and two "forced" sequences (in eighth and twelfth grade classes) in the magmatism area and their relationship with the text-working teaching practices. It aims to identify difficulties and didactic conditions of access to knowledge and problematized texts. We rely on both tools borrowed from the theoretical framework of problematization, the anthropological theory of didactics (ATD) and professional didactics to model and understand text-working teaching practices. It appears that problematized text-working presents technical difficulties due to teaching practices focused on identifying and sorting solutions in order to determine the right one for the problem. These techniques seem justified by technologies marked by the epistemological and didactic conceptions of teachers and the usual form of scientific knowledge at school. In contrast, the construction of knowledge and problematized texts requires of teaching actions leading to leaps of abstraction, allowing students to move from ideas to the reasons underlying the solutions. From a problematization logic, we identify some conditions for these text-working techniques to lead to the construction of problematized and non-propositional texts.; Notre étude porte sur des textes de savoirs (oraux et écrits) produits lors d'une séquence ordinaire (en classe de 4ème) et de deux séquences " forcées " (en classes de 4ème et de Terminale S) dans le domaine du magmatisme, et sur leurs relations avec les pratiques enseignantes de mise en textes. Elle vise à repérer les difficultés et les conditions didactiques d'accès à des savoirs et à des textes problématisés. Nous nous appuyons à la fois sur des outils empruntés au cadre théorique de la problématisation, à la théorie anthropologique du didactique (TAD) et à la didactique professionnelle pour modéliser et mieux comprendre les pratiques de mise en texte enseignantes. Il apparaît que la mise en texte problématisé présente des difficultés en raison de techniques enseignantes centrées sur le repérage et le tri des solutions dans le but d'identifier la bonne solution au problème posé. Ces techniques semblent justifiées par des technologies marquées par les conceptions épistémologiques et didactiques des enseignants et la forme habituelle des savoirs scientifiques scolaires. Par opposition, la construction des savoirs et des textes problématisés nécessite des interventions enseignantes conduisant à des sauts abstractifs permettant de faire passer les élèves des idées aux raisons qui sous-tendent les solutions.
