This study discussed about how pseudo-thinking process actually occurs in the mind of the students, used Piaget``s frame work of the assimilation and accommodation process. The data collection is conducted using Think-Out-Loud (TOL) method. The study reveals that pseudo thinking process of covariational reasoning occurs originally from incomplete assimilation, incomplete accommodation process or both. Based on this, three models of incomplete thinking structure constructions are established: (1) Deviated thinking structure, (2) Incomplete thinking structure on assimilation process, and (3) Incomplete thinking structure on accommodation process.

Piaget’s revolutionary study on the cognitive development of children has focused on the development of logic. Logical operations and a variety of classifications based on the set of accepted rules involve convergent thinking. Children and adults have logical and creative thinking which deal with a reality of thinking. This study aims to examine a cognitive structure of students, which is closely related to the Piaget’s cognitive development theories of students when creative thinking. Students were given an open mathematical problem and were expected to be able to take ad-vantage of sensitivity, fluency, flexibility, originality, and elaboration which can be seen as clearly of their structure cognitive.

A new terahertz (THz) photoconductive photomixer/antenna device Is presented. A continuous-wave THz signal is generated in a dc-biased photoconductive film by employing Optical heterodyne scheme, and at the same time, the size of the film on the grounded dielectric substrate is designed to have an efficient broadside radiation. Incorporating the photoconductive film as the photomixing media and the radiation element not only eliminates source to antenna coupling problem but also makes the proposed device attractive for THz array source configurations. Analytical expressions for the photocurrent and the radiation power are derived under high dc bias condition, and the effects of the device configuration on its performance Is studied. Two possible photomixer configurations, namely longitudinal and transversal, are introduced and their photomixing efficiencies and radiation power are compared. The typical nW output power is achievable by mW laser pump power for frequencies up to 10 THz. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Arctic lakes emit methane (CH4) to the atmosphere. The magnitude of this flux could increase with permafrost thaw but might also be mitigated by microbial CH4 oxidation. Methane oxidation in oxic water has been extensively studied, while the contribution of anaerobic oxidation of methane (AOM) to CH4 mitigation is not fully understood. We have investigated four Northern Siberian stratified lakes in an area of discontinuous permafrost nearby Igarka, Russia. Analyses of CH4 concentrations in the water column demonstrated that 60 to 100% of upward diffusing CH4 was oxidized in the anoxic layers of the four lakes. A combination of pmoA and mcrA gene qPCR and 16S rRNA gene metabarcoding showed that the same taxa, all within Methylomonadaceae and including the predominant genus Methylobacter as well as Crenothrix, could be the major methane-oxidizing bacteria (MOB) in the anoxic water of the four lakes. Correlation between Methylomonadaceae and OTUs within Methylotenera, Geothrix and Geobacter genera indicated that AOM might occur in an interaction between MOB, denitrifiers and iron-cycling partners. We conclude that MOB within Methylomonadaceae could have a crucial impact on CH4 cycling in these Siberian Arctic lakes by mitigating the majority of produced CH4 before it leaves the anoxic zone. This finding emphasizes the importance of AOM by Methylomonadaceae and extends our knowledge about CH4 cycle in lakes, a crucial component of the global CH4 cycle.

International audience; Named Data Networking (NDN) is a new architecture which allows communications using data’s natural names rather than hosts’ logical addresses. In recent years, several research projects have demonstrated the ability of NDN to support emerging IoT applications like home automation, smart cities and smart farming applications. This work aims to integrate NDN with ZigBee to give NDN a better support for IoT applications that are known to require wireless sensing/actuating abilities, mobility support and low power consumption. For this purpose, we present our NDN-over-ZigBee design and we show through experiments conducted with three different scenarios the suitability and the ease of use of NDN in IoT context. The choice of ZigBee is motivated by the fact that it is a network specification for low-power wireless personal area networks (WPANs) and supports a large number of nodes.

Als mögliche Einschränkung wird angemerkt, dass die Verwendung desselben Testverfahrens in mehreren Sprachen aufgrund von Testeffekten einzelne Sprachgruppen bevorzugen könnte.; Balanced bilingualism has inspired debates on bilingualism for a long time, but several questions related to this discourse remain unanswered. How common are balanced bilinguals? Does balance have a positive impact on language proficiency? More specifically, when children begin to frequent schools and thus have a lot of oral and literal input in the school language, how do balance and dominance develop? The present paper discusses the following research questions with respect to vocabulary: Do balanced test results in two languages correlate with a better proficiency than unbalanced results? Moreover, is a balanced use of two languages accompanied by a balanced vocabulary? We used a picture naming task to test the expressive and receptive vocabulary of 98 German-Turkish speaking schoolchildren in a cross-sectional design. To determine balance resp. dominance, we used a combined score of the values in the German and the Turkish testing. The balance/dominance scores show a continuous shift to dominance in the majority language. Consistent use of Turkish has an effect on Turkish vocabulary, but not a negative impact on vocabulary in German. There was no overall positive influence of balanced bilingualism.; Balanced bilingualism has inspired debates on bilingualism for a long time, but several questions related to this discourse remain unanswered.

International audience; High resolution direct numerical simulations of rotating and flapping bumblebee wings are presented and their aerodynamics is studied focusing on the role of leading edge vortices and the associated helicity production. We first study the flow generated by only one rotating bumblebee wing in circular motion with $45^{\circ}$ angle of attack. We then consider a model bumblebee flying in a numerical wind tunnel, which is tethered and has rigid wings flapping with a prescribed generic motion. The inflow condition of the wind varies from laminar to strongly turbulent regimes. Massively parallel simulations show that inflow turbulence does not significantly alter the wings' leading edge vortex (LEV), which enhances lift production. Finally, we focus on studying the helicity of the generated vortices and analyze their contribution at different scales using orthogonal wavelets.

International audience; We perform experiments to investigate how particles of micro-meter size modify the wetting of a completely wettable solid surface. The motion of a macroscopic contact line (MCL) is observed to be altered in the region surrounding the particles. The MCL is accelerated locally by a single particle to advance approximately 10 times faster than that in the absence of the particle. Different geometrical arrangements of particles produce different wetting speeds and different MCL shapes through multiple MCL-particle interactions. These results suggest a method to control the wetting without surface patterning by chemical treatment.

Background Leptospirosis is an important zoonotic disease worldwide, caused by spirochetes bacteria of the genus Leptospira. In Thailand, cattle and buffalo used in agriculture are in close contact with human beings. During flooding, bacteria can quickly spread throughout an environment, increasing the risk of leptospirosis infection. The aim of this study was to investigate the association of several environmental factors with cattle and buffalo leptospirosis cases in Thailand, with a focus on flooding. Method A total of 3571 urine samples were collected from cattle and buffalo in 107 districts by field veterinarians from January 2011 to February 2013. All samples were examined for the presence of leptospirosis infection by loop-mediated isothermal amplification (LAMP). Environmental data, including rainfall, percentage of flooded area (estimated by remote sensing), average elevation, and human and livestock population density were used to build a generalized linear mixed model. Results A total of 311 out of 3571 (8.43%) urine samples tested positive by the LAMP technique. Positive samples were recorded in 51 out of 107 districts (47.66%). Results showed a significant association between the percentage of the area flooded at district level and leptospirosis infection in cattle and buffalo (p = 0.023). Using this data, a map with a predicted risk of leptospirosis can be developed to help forecast leptospirosis cases in the field. Conclusions Our model allows the identification of areas and periods when the risk of leptospirosis infection is higher in cattle and buffalo, mainly due to a seasonal flooding. The increased risk of leptospirosis infection can also be higher in humans too. These areas and periods should be targeted for leptospirosis surveillance and control in both humans and animals. The origin of Phobos and Deimos in a giant impact generated disk is gaining larger attention. Although this scenario has been the subject of many studies, an evaluation of the chemical composition of the Mars' moons in this framework is missing. The chemical composition of Phobos and Deimos is unconstrained. The large uncertainty about the origin of the mid-infrared features, the lack of absorption bands in the visible and near-infrared spectra, and the effects of secondary processes on the moons' surface make the determination of their composition very difficult from remote sensing data. Simulations suggest a formation of a disk made of gas and melt with their composition linked to the nature of the impactor and Mars. Using thermodynamic equilibrium we investigate the composition of dust (condensates from gas) and solids (from a cooling melt) that result from different types of Mars impactors (Mars-, CI-, CV-, EH-, comet-like). Our calculations show a wide range of possible chemical compositions and noticeable differences between dust and solids depending on the considered impactors. Assuming Phobos and Deimos as result of the accretion and mixing of dust and solids, we find that the derived assemblage (dust rich in metallic-iron, sulphides and/or carbon, and quenched solids rich in silicates) can be compatible with the observations. The JAXA's MMX (Martian Moons eXploration) mission will investigate the physical and chemical properties of the Maroons, especially sampling from Phobos, before returning to Earth. Our results could be then used to disentangle the origin and chemical composition of the pristine body that hit Mars and suggest guidelines for helping in the analysis of the returned samples., Accepted for publication in ApJ (13/12/2017)

International audience; The relationship between in-situ viscosimetry, in- and ex-situ morphogranulometry, and biochemistry has been investigated during enzymatic hudrolysis of pretreated sugarcane bagasse (SCB, 3% w/v) and filter paper (FP, 1.5% w/v) at various enzyme dosages (0.3 to 25 FPU/g cellulose). Semi-dilute conditions (1.5 to 2 times higher than critical concentrations) were considered in order to generate non-Newtonian rheological behaviors and to avoid neglecting particle-particle interactions in opposition to dilute conditions. Observed phenomena as well as hydrolysis mechanisms including solvation, separation, fragmentation and solubilisation appeared to depend strongly on initial substrate properties. For both FP and SCB, suspension viscosities were correlated with particle size distributions and volume fractions during hydrolysis, but they exhibited strongly different trends. With SCB, a viscosity overshoot was clearly observed at enzyme loading ≤10FPU/g cellulose. This phenomenon is explained by the separation of agglomerates into individual fragments, leading to an increase in the total number of particles and a morphological shift of particles from sphere-like into fiber-like. With FP, the viscosity collapsed at the initial stage in relation to the volume reduction of coarse particles and the number increase of fine particles. Suspension viscosity was strongly dependent on the fraction of coarse population and nearly independent from the glucose conversion yield.

International audience; This study aims at developing and evaluating a new practical method for the real-time estimate of joint torques and external wrenches during multi-contact sit-to-stand task using kinematics data only. The proposed method allows also identifying subject specific body inertial segment parameters that are required to perform inverse dynamics. The identification phase is performed using simple and repeatable motions. Thanks to an accurately identified model the estimate of the total external wrench can be used as an input to solve an under-determined multi-con-tact problem. It is solved using a constrained quadratic optimization process minimising a hybrid human-like energetic criterion. The weights of this hybrid cost function are adjusted and a sensitivity analysis is performed in order to reproduce robustly human external wrench distribution. The results showed that the pro-posed method could successfully estimate the external wrenches under buttocks, feet and hands during sit-to stand tasks (RMS error lower than 20 N and 6 N.m). The simplicity and generalisation abilities of the proposed method allow paving the way of future diagnosis solutions and rehabilitation applications, including in-home use.

Recent works have shown that Martian moons Phobos and Deimos may have accreted within a giant impact-generated disk whose composition is about an equal mixture of Martian material and impactor material. Just after the giant impact, the Martian surface is heated up to $\sim3000-6000$ K and the building blocks of moons, including volatile-rich vapor, are heated up to $\sim2000$ K. In this paper, we investigate the volatile loss from the building blocks of Phobos and Deimos by hydrodynamic escape of vapor and radiation pressure on condensed particles. We show that a non-negligible amount of volatiles ($> 10\%$ of the vapor with temperature $> 1000$ K via hydrodynamic escape, and moderately volatile dusts that condense at $\sim700-2000$ K via radiation pressure) could be removed just after the impact during their first signle orbit from their pericenters to apocenters. Our results indicate that bulk Phobos and Deimos are depleted in volatile elements. Together with future explorations such as JAXA's MMX (Martian Moons eXploration) mission, our results would be used to constrain the origin of Phobos and Deimos., 15 pages, 8 figures. International audience; The second season of archaeological study of the Dûmat al-Jandal oasis (Saudi Arabia) by the Joint Saudi-Italian-French Archaeological Project took place from October 7th to November 13th, 2011. Results obtained this year were signi cant, in particular the discovery of several Neolithic sites to the south of Dûma, that of a Nabatean ‘triclinium’ and the base of a presumably ‘Roman’ tower on the Western sector’s promontory. These discoveries lead one to consider the setting up of long-term collaborations with specialists from a number of fields (Prehistorian, pottery experts specializing in classical periods, archaeo-botanists, etc...) and induce new thoughts on the place of Nabatean and Roman culture in the region. They also enable one to consider the continuation of Saudi-Italian-French collaboration and future research, in an atmosphere of confidence and sharing.

International audience; The paper presents the analysis and design of Bessel beam launchers using a finite inward cylindrical traveling wave aperture field distribution. The launcher radiates an electric field whose normal or longitudinal component takes the form of a zeroth-order Bessel function. The nondiffractive behavior of the structure in a well-defined area close to the radiating aperture is analyzed by decomposing the radiated field in its geometrical optics (GO) and diffractive (D) contributions. A closed-form expression is provided for the GO contribution whereas an asymptotic approximation is provided for the diffractive part. Such theoretical analysis allows a precise definition of the nondiffractive region for the generated Bessel beam. At the same time, it also highlights and predicts the oscillating behavior of the longitudinal component of the electric field along the z-axis due to the diffraction from the edges of the aperture. The proposed analysis is validated by a prototype at 30 GHz made by a radial waveguide loaded with metallic gratings and centrally fed by a coaxial probe. Measurement results for the longitudinal component of the electric field are in excellent agreement with full-wave results. In addition, the nondiffractive behavior for the radiated beam is reported over a bandwidth larger than 6.5% around 30 GHz. This behavior is peculiar of the nonresonant first kind Hankel aperture field distribution used for the generation of the Bessel beam.

Σε παράρτημα παρουσιάζεται το αποτέλεσμα των φυσικοχημικοί αναλύσεων, στις οποίες υποβλήθηκε αυτή η κατηγορία κεραμεικής., The deposit of the North Wall of Amathus has yielded a plentiful, varied series of cooking vessels. These vases, which are distinguished by a particular fabric, are classified and studied in detail. Many of the forms are rare or unpublished. Comparison with finds from other sites and with figured representations enables us to suggest a number of hypotheses about their use and throws into relief the variety of cooking methods. These vessels, which belong to the kitchen utensils of the palace, reveal that collective meals were prepared on the acropolis. Like roasting spits and cauldrons, the kitchen pottery formed part of the kitchen equipment of the elite and, as such, is completely in place in the palace of Amathus and the 'royal' cemetery of Salamis, where they are found in equally great numbers. The results of the physical and chemical analyses relating to this category of pottery are presented in an appendix., Le dépôt du rempart Nord d'Amathonte a livré une série particulièrement abondante et variée de céramiques culinaires. Παρόλο που συχνά δεν σώζονται ακέραια, τα αντικειμένα αυτά δίνουν μια συνολική εικόνα του υλικού του αρχαϊκού ανακτόρου της Αμαθούντας., Sabine Fourrier et al. The Archaic Deposit by the North Wall at Amathus, III. The Small Finds p. 67-118 The small finds discovered in a fill of the Archaic period deposited against the North Wall of the lower town at Amathus are described. The rich and varied material reflects the different functions of the palace that it came from. Many types are unknown or only attested among the finds from the palace on the acropolis. Certain categories, like the terracotta figurines or the marks incised on the vases, are especially well represented. In spite of their often fragmentary condition, these objects give an overall picture of the finds contained in the Archaic palace of Amathus., Sabine Fourrier et al.
