Meat is the main and important source of protein, minerals, and vitamins and plays a crucial role in human nutrition. Based on projections, the consumption of it is expected to increase twofold by 2050 as a result of population growth. Conversely, this surge in meat production gives rise to issues such as the indiscriminate slaughter of animals, the escalation in methane gas production and subsequent exacerbation of the global warming phenomenon, the heightened risk of shared diseases between humans and animals, and the emergence of antibiotic-resistant strains of pathogens, as well as excessive water usage. There will be a significant amount, therefore, it is imperative to explore novel approaches, such as employing lab-grown meat. Current research in this field is primarily centered around the production of cultured meat. These meats offer numerous benefits, such as their eco-friendliness and their ability to mitigate animal-borne illnesses. In the process of cultivating meat, stem or satellite cells are extracted from the animal's muscle tissue without causing harm to the animal. These cells are then placed in a culture medium containing fetal bovine serum. Subsequently, they employ either edible or non-edible scaffolds as a means of facilitating cell proliferation, which is then introduced into a bioreactor to induce the growth of tissue. Under optimal growth conditions, including appropriate temperature, oxygen levels, nutrient availability, and growth factors, it typically takes approximately 3–5 weeks for a thin piece of meat to develop. Presently, the feasibility of adopting cultured meat production is severely limited by its exorbitant cost, substandard colour and taste, and the lack of acceptance by various religious groups. Enhancing the colour of the meat can be achieved by incorporating edible colour compounds like red beetroot and saffron, while its taste can be enhanced by incorporating fatty acids, fats, and protein. It is important to acknowledge that this technology is still in its initial phases and in order to achieve widespread production, it is imperative to attain a satisfactory level of consumer approval. Furthermore, the adoption of this technology may potentially lead to a decrease in the income of livestock breeders. However, given the inherent risks associated with the livestock industry, it is imperative to proceed in this direction. Also, 3D printing is an advancing digital technology that has a vast market potential in the field of food and nutrition technology. It offers a platform for creating distinctive food products that have improved sensory and nutritional qualities, specifically tailored for a particular consumer. 3D printing has the potential to provide distinct solutions for the crucial challenges in cultured meat production, specifically in controlling the protein, fat, and other nutritional composition, as well as creating a lifelike texture. The main man-made materials used in tissue engineering are polystyrene, polylactic acid (PLA), polyglycolic acid (PGA), and a mixture of polylactic and polyglycolic acids called PLGA.

Wound care poses a significant global challenge, imposing substantial financial strain on governments across the globe. The exploration of wound dressings (WDs) with the potential to enhance the healing process has been the subject of extensive research and scrutiny for an extended period. Traditional wound dressings, such as bandages, hydrogels, and foams, fall short of achieving desired wound healing (WH) outcomes due to their limited ability to accurately address the dynamic process of tissue repair. There have been suggestions to create sophisticated WDs with the capability to interact with wounds, perceive alterations in the wound's state or surroundings, and react correspondingly. This proposal encompasses the development of advanced WDs that possess interactive features for improved monitoring and response to changes in wound conditions. These innovative dressings incorporate sensors and intelligent materials such as stimuli-responsive and self-healing materials, aiming to effectively enhance the process of WH. In recent years, there has been significant advancement in the field of WDs, with the introduction of innovative smart WDs. These cutting-edge dressings include biomechanical WDs, stimuli-responsive WDs, self-healing WDs for mobile injuries, self-removable WDs, and monitoring WDs. This progressive development in wound care technology showcases the potential to revolutionize the management and treatment of various types of wounds. This review aims to provide an overview of dressings with chitosan nanoparticles (CS NPs) that exhibit responsiveness to stimuli. The article discusses various aspects of these dressings, focusing on their characteristics and applications in a scientific and scholarly manner.

A major obstacle in the utilization of phenolic antioxidant compounds is their sensitivity and as a result stability issue. The current study aimed to encapsulate polyphenolic compounds, extracted from Rosemary, in liposomes prepared by the Mozafari method without the utilization of toxic solvents or detergents. The extract was prepared and converted into a powder by freeze-drying. The process conditions were optimized using response surface analysis, and the optimal parameters were as follows: phosphatidylcholine (PC), 2.5% (25 mg/mL); extract, 0.7% (7 mg/mL); process temperature, 70 °C and process time, 60 min. The entrapment efficiency in optimal sample was 54.59%. Also, optimal glycerosomes formulation were finally physicochemical characterized (permeability, zeta potential, and size distribution). The mean size of empty and containing rosemary extract glycerosome were 265.4 nm and 583.5 nm, respectively, and the Z-potential of optimal glycerosome was -65.1 mV. Total phenolic content was obtained 151.38 mg gallic acid/g extract, in optimal liposomal formulation, which was measured by Folin-Ciocalteu's phenol reagent. Also, the antioxidant activity of rosemary extract by DPPH for the free and optimal liposomal formulation was determined to be 84.57% and 92.5% respectively. It can be concluded that the liposomal rosemary extract formulation prepared in this study, employing a safe, scalable, and green technology, has great promise in food and pharmaceutical applications.

There has been a steady increase in the interest towards employing nanoliposomes as colloidal drug delivery systems, particularly in the last few years. Their biocompatibility nature along with the possibility of encapsulation of lipid-soluble, water-soluble and amphipathic molecules and compounds are among the advantages of employing these lipidic nanocarriers. A challenge in the successful formulation of nanoliposomal systems is to control the critical physicochemical properties, which impact their in vivo performance, and validating analytical techniques that can adequately characterize these nanostructures. Of particular interest are the chemical composition of nanoliposomes, their phase transition temperature, state of the encapsulated material, encapsulation efficiency, particle size distribution, morphology, internal structure, lamellarity, surface charge, and drug release pattern. These attributes are highly important in revealing the supramolecular arrangement of nanoliposomes and incorporated drugs and ensuring the stability of the formulation as well as consistent drug delivery to target tissues. In this article, we present characterization of nanoliposomal formulations as an example to illustrate identification of key in vitro characteristics of a typical nanotherapeutic agent. Corresponding analytical techniques are discussed within the context of nanoliposome assessment, single particle analysis and ensuring uniform manufacture of therapeutic formulations with batch-to-batch consistency.

Nanoscale lipid bilayers, or nanoliposomes, are generally spherical vesicles formed by the dispersion of phospholipid molecules in a water-based medium by energy input. The other nanoscale object discussed in this entry, i.e., tocosome, is a recently introduced bioactive carrier made mainly from tocopheryl phosphates. Due to their bi-compartmental structure, which consists of lipidic and aqueous compartments, these nanocarriers are capable of carrying hydrophilic and hydrophobic material separately or simultaneously. Nanoliposomes and tocosomes are able to provide protection and release of sensitive food-grade bioactive materials in a sustained manner. They are being utilized for the encapsulation of different types of bioactive materials (such as drugs, vaccines, antimicrobials, antioxidants, minerals and preservatives), for the enrichment and fortification of different food and nutraceutical formulations and manufacturing of functional products. However, a number of issues unique to the nutraceutical and food industry must first be resolved before these applications can completely become a reality. Considering the potentials and promises of these colloidal carrier systems, the present article reviews various aspects of nanoliposomes, in comparison with tocosomes, including the ingredients used in their manufacture, formation mechanisms and issues pertaining to their application in the formulation of health promoting dietary supplements and functional food products.

AbstractBackground and Objectives: This survey was conducted in order to assess the prevalence of psychiatric disorders in children of the war-wounded veterans, and to compare it with the general population of Shiraz.Methods: The present study was a cross-sectional survey on a random sample of children and adolescents of 223 veteran's (25%-70%) families between 12-20 years old. The control group consisted of students of 12-20 years of age. Diagnosis was made using semi-structured clinical interviews on the basis of DSM-IV, through K-SADS-PL.Results: Out of 223 veteran's families interviewed, 123 families had at least one child with one psychiatric disorder. Those children, 52 boys (15 %) and 71 girls (20%), suffered from at least one of the psychiatric disorders. The prevalence of depressive disorders such as dysthymia was 2.3%, major depressive disorder 8.4%, and minor depression 5.8%. The prevalence of anxiety disorders including generalized anxiety disorder was (10.1%), separation anxiety disorder (1.4%) obsessive compulsive disorder (4%), panic disorder (3.2%), post traumatic stress disorder (3.2%), social phobia (4.3%) specific phobia (2%) and agoraphobia was (1.4%). Conclusio: Although the prevalence of depressive and anxiety disorders did not significantly differ from that of control group, but more studies, and more consultative, preventive and therapeutic actions seem to be necessary for children of veterans, due to a higher prevalence of some of anxiety disorders such as generalized anxiety disorder and some depression symptoms.Keywords: Prevalence; Anxiety Disorders; Depressive Disorders; Child; Shiraz , Iran.
