PurposeThe purpose of this study is to explore how and when an employee's belief in their voice self-efficacy leads to promotive and prohibitive voice behavior. By banking on social cognitive theory, this study examines perceived influence at work as a mediator and managerial openness as a moderator in the link between voice self-efficacy and the two forms of voice.Design/methodology/approachThis study's data come from 285 Indian information technology (IT) employees by adopting a cross-sectional survey design. The effect of moderator and mediator is examined by employing structural equation modeling in AMOS 22.FindingsThe results reveal that perceived influence at work partially mediates the positive link between voice self-efficacy and the two forms of voice behaviors. The test of moderation also exposes that prohibitive voice is more contingent on managerial openness as compared to promotive voice.Originality/valueThis is one of the initial studies to explore perceived influence at work as a mediator in the association between voice self-efficacy and employee voice behavior. The treatment of voice as a bidimensional construct in this study discloses the difference between the two forms, contributing to the voice literature and inviting further research.

Over the past two decades, technological developments, globalization, and several other competitive challenges have caused dramatic changes within and across organizations in their decision-making. These concerns have resulted in a lasting impact on human resource management, both at functional and strategic standpoints. The present study considers “corporate sustainability perceptions” and “ethical leadership” as contextual antecedents and “voice behavior,” “employer attractiveness,” and “reduced turnover intentions” as consequences. Further, the intervening effects of “person organization fit,” “trust in management and moral identity” are analyzed. Out of total 498 respondents to whom the questionnaire is circulated to, the authors received 312 completely filled responses, reflecting a response rate of 62.65 percent. The study adopts casual research design with convenience sampling technique. Our findings shed light on the statistical and practical implications by providing suggestive measures for the organizations, to implement sustainable human resource management practices.

Large terrestrial wild herbivores are threatened globally, but scarce information exists on their populations outside of protected areas in South and Southeast Asia. India supports 39 species of wild herbivores, nearly two-thirds of which are threatened. While the protected area network still forms the backbone of large mammal conservation, it occupies less than 5% of India. Yet, remnant habitats outside of parks have received sparse attention to conserve threatened wild herbivores. Our study examined the effects of livestock occurrence, human proximity (distance to nearest village), and habitat factors (percentage habitat available and mean slope) on populations of large wild ungulates in a tropical forest outside of protected areas in the Western Ghats of India. We used a sign-based abundance-occupancy modelling approach to assess the effects of these variables on animal group density ( λ ˆ ) and animal group-specific detection probability (r) of three large wild ungulates (gaur Bos gaurus, sambar Rusa unicolor, and wild pig Sus scrofa). Our results reveal that in human-dominated tropical forests, gaur group density increases with larger available habitat and lower occurrence of livestock, while sambar group density increases with higher mean slope and lower occurrence of livestock. Contrary to expectation, sambar group density was higher in smaller available habitat. No variable could reliably explain wild pig group density, but the species is a known generalist. Our results have important implications for conservation of threatened large herbivores and management of remnant tropical forest habitats outside protected areas, especially Reserved Forests in the Indian context. Remnant habitats can support significant populations of large herbivores and need to be protected in developing South and Southeast Asian countries. Gradual improvement in livestock management practices will benefit large herbivore populations in priority regions outside of protected parks in India.

The present study aims to investigate the direct and indirect effects of emotional intelligence (EI) on knowledge sharing (KS) behaviour of employees via two mediating variables, namely organizational justice (OJ) and work engagement (WE). The authors collected data from 294 employees working in select public sector banks in India via survey and web-based modes. The two-stage approach which includes confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) and structural equation modelling (SEM) was used to validate the direct and indirect impacts of EI on KS behaviour. Results indicated that there exists a positive impact of EI on KS behaviour. This article provides important implications for organizations by showing that EI plays a pivotal role in stimulating KS behaviour of employees in Indian public sector banks. This study also corroborates the partial mediating role of OJ and WE between EI and KS behaviour. This research contributes to the academic literature of EI and KS in specific and extends the organizational research studies in general.

This article aims to examine the performance implications of dynamic capabilities in the banking firms and explain the degree of influence that learning, integration, reconfiguration and alliance management dynamic capabilities are likely to have on a bank’s financial and non-financial performance. Using 439 samples of managers in Indian banking firms, structural equation modelling (SEM) was directed and found that dynamic capability is a vital driver of banks’ performance. Learning, integration and alliance management dynamic capabilities have significant relationship with banks’ financial and non-financial performance. The insignificance of reconfiguration capability for financial performance is also revealed. Practically, findings will serve banking sector, useful course-of-action to overcome the present competitive-pressures as well counter the future challenges through depth knowledge on specific dynamic capability investment and respective performance-improvement. Stranded on these findings, practical implications, limitations and future research directions are also conversed.

This study aims to examine the role of human resource (HR) practices and learning-oriented culture to influence organizational human capital through knowledge management (KM) processes. Several linkages were proposed among study constructs based on previous literature annotations. Further, proposed relationships were empirically tested using structural equation modelling technique with the help of SPSS 20, PROCESS macro and AMOS 20 software. Data were collected from 237 employees of Indian business and professional service providers. This study discusses the role of HR practices and learning-oriented culture to affect KM process and shows that the proposed relationship has the potential to positively influence organizational human capital. In addition, results of the study provide empirical evidence to the mediating role of KM process between the associations of HR practices, organizational human capital, learning oriented culture and organizational human capital. Later, authors discuss study findings and provide insights into implications, limitations and future scope of the study.

Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to examine the effects of intellectual capital (human, social and organizational capital) on dynamic capabilities (learning, integration, reconfiguration and alliance management). Design/methodology/approach – A methodical review of relevant literature and the theory of resource-based view, knowledge-based view and dynamic capability view serves as a starting-point to develop a framework for linking intellectual capital with dynamic capabilities. A total of 241 managers from the public sector banks in India was selected as sample of study and structural equation modelling was applied to provide strong evidence for the hypothesis. Findings – The study established a strong effect of intellectual capital dimensions on dynamic capabilities in the surveyed banking firms. Human and social capital had the most profound effect on learning, integration, reconfiguration and alliance management capabilities. As regards to organizational capital, an unexpected negative effect on reconfiguration and alliance management capabilities was observed. Originality/value – The study clarifies the role of knowledge for various capability developments. One of the significant contributions is with reference to the linkages of structural aspects of knowledge and dynamic capabilities, a link that can barely be seen in the existing literature. To the author’s knowledge the present study makes a preliminary effort to broaden the concepts appeal in new geographical boundaries and empirical context, thus making an original contribution to the Indian banking industry and strategic management literature, significantly.

This study aims to examine the effects of intellectual capital on dynamic capabilities and the mediating role of knowledge management processes. Based on the review of literature, a research model was proposed to examine this quantitative relationship. The model was empirically tested using 679 responses from the banking industry in India and applying Structural equation modeling analysis. It was found that intellectual capital with its three dimensions has significant effect on dynamic capabilities. Concerning to mediating role of knowledge management process, two patterns of association was found: Knowledge management process partially mediates the effect of organizational capital on dynamic capabilities and fully mediates the effect of human capital and social capital on dynamic capabilities. Based on these empirical insights, inferences and future avenues are further discussed in detail.

Purpose– This paper aims to explore knowledge management (KM) literature to understand further the inter-relationship among KM infrastructure (KMI), KM strategy (KMS), KM process (KMP) and individual competence (IC), which are considered very much essential for achieving a heightened competence at an individual level. In the present scenario, knowledge intensive organizations are striving highly to manage competitiveness for their survival in the market. The role of knowledge capability is very much pivotal in ensuring the success of knowledge process implementation.Design/methodology/approach– A methodical review has been carried out of empirical and conceptual articles to justify the linkages among KMI, KMS, KMP and IC, particularly accessed through sources such as Pro Quest, EBSCO host, Google Scholar and other e-databases. This review integrates a conceptual framework to explore the relationship among the aforesaid constructs.Findings– This study provides valuable insight into the role of KMI and KMS in enabling various KM processes. It also contributes significantly to organizations by helping them to integrate KM processes so as to enhance IC.Research limitations/implications– This paper provides helpful suggestions to drive the KMPs by facilitating suitable congruence of infrastructure capabilities and KMSs within organizations. Further, this study would also be helpful in enhancing IC along with organizational competence. Study limitations are also discussed.Originality/value– This paper contributes to knowledge and competence management literature by adding the fact that KMI and KMS both precede KMP for better outcomes at an individual level.

Anthrax associated causalities in humans and animals are implicated mainly due to the action of two exotoxins that are secreted by the bacterium Bacillus antharcis during the infection. These exotoxins comprise of three protein components namely protective antigen (PA), lethal factor (LF) and edema factor (EF). The protective antigen is the common toxin component required to form both lethal toxin (LeTx) and edema toxin (EdTx). The LeTx is formed, when PA combines with LF and EdTx is formed when PA combines with EF. Therapeutic interventions aiming to neutralize these key effectors of anthrax pathology would therefore, provide an effective means to counter the toxicity imposed by the anthrax toxins on the host. The present work describes the lethal toxin neutralization potential of polyclonal antisera developed against the individual domains of the protective antigen component of the anthrax toxin. The individual domains were produced as recombinant proteins in E. coli and validated with peptide mass fingerprinting by MALDI-TOF analysis and corresponding mice polyclonal antisera by western blotting. Each domain specific antibody titre and isotype was ascertained by ELISA. The isotyping revealed the predominance of IgG1 isotype. The toxin neutralizing potential of these domain specific antisera were evaluated by in-vitro cell viability MTT assay, employing J774.1 mouse macrophage cell line against LeTx (0.25 μg ml−1 PA and 0.125 μg ml−1 LF concentrations). Among the four domain specific antisera, the antiserum against PA domain IV could neutralize LeTx with high efficiency. No significant neutralization of LeTx was observed with other domain specific antibodies. Results indicate that antibodies to r-PA domain IV could be explored further as therapeutic anti toxin molecule along with appropriate antibiotic regimens against anthrax.

The aim of this paper is to investigate the importance of organisational learning (OL) in achieving organisational sustainability (OS) with respect to select pharmaceutical companies in India. Using descriptive research design tests, the causation and primary data are collected with the help of a survey questionnaire on a five-point Likert scale. A total of 198 responses were collected out of 344 respondents to whom the questionnaire was sent to, resulting in a response rate of 57.55%. In addition to the direct effects between OL and OS, the present study also tests for the indirect effect using a moderating variable such as Institutional Pressures between the two main constructs. Hierarchical multiple regression analysis is used to test the predictability of the direct and indirect effects. The findings of the study append the academic literature of OL and OS practices.

The role of confinement on the flow of power-law fluids past a cylinder confined symmetrically between two parallel walls has been investigated numerically over wide ranges of conditions as follows: power-law index (0.4 ≤ n ≤ 1.8), Reynolds number (40 ≤ Re ≤ 140) and blockage ratio (2,4,6). For Newtonian fluids, moderate degree of confinement stabilizes the flow thereby delaying the onset of the laminar vortex shedding regime. Although similar stabilization also occurs in shear-thickening fluids, this relationship is complex for shear-thinning fluids. Depending upon the degree of shear-thinning, the walls may stabilize or destabilize the flow. Extensive results are presented on streamline, vorticity contours and pressure profiles herein. The power-law behavior exerts significant influence on the macroscopic momentum transfer characteristics also. Thus, the drag and lift coefficients and Strouhal number exhibit complex dependence on Reynolds number, blockage ratio and power-law index. Sustainable HRM signifies a paradigm shift in the way business processes are perceived in general and HRM in particular. The aim of the present study is to examine the influence of Sustainable HRM on organisational effectiveness and also to examine the interaction effects with reference to employer attractiveness and person organisation fit. The study has undertaken a conclusive research design and a survey instrument are used to collect data through five point Likert scale, using both web based and manual channels. Respondents were chosen based on purposive random sampling technique, from the select pharmaceutical companies in India. A total of 546 questionnaires are circulated among the select pharmaceutical companies in India and 322 completely filled responses were received, after terminating the improperly filled responses, thereby achieving the response rate of 58.97%. Some of the empirical insights, which can be drawn from the study, are that sustainable HRM practices have a significant impact in enhancing the organisational effectiveness. The study also suggests that employer attractiveness partially mediates the relationship between sustainable HRM and organisational effectiveness and person organisation fit acts as a moderator, thereby strengthening the relationship between sustainable HRM and employer attractiveness.

A novel channel-allocation method that allows reduction of the four-wave mixing (FWM) effect while maintaining bandwidth efficiency is presented. It is composed of a fractional bandwidth-allocation algorithm, taking into consideration the use of parameters with distinct differences. This proposed technique allows the computation of an optimal channel-allocation set, where degradation caused by interchannel interference and FWM is minimal. Simulation is carried out to show significant performance improvement, such as an average bit-error rate improvement factor of 1.336 for an eight-channel wavelength-division multiplexing system, without the requirement of increased bandwidth, unlike existing channel-allocation methods.

We report the development and demonstration of a long-period grating refractometer. The principle of operation is based on the using of a long-period grating that is structurally induced by a CO 2 laser, and where the resonance wavelengths are shifted as the refractive index of medium surrounding the cladding of the long-period grating. The different concentrations for three types of solutions (ethylene glycol, salt, and sugar) were experimentally measured, and results show that, as a refractometer, this fiber-based device not only can differentiate chemicals based on their refractive index, but it can also become a concentration indicator of a particular chemical solution, and applied in the oil and petroleum industry.

In present knowledge era, sustaining competitive edge and managing excellence requires organisations to develop their strategic orientation towards efficiency, effectiveness and performance. The present study sought to examine the effect of KM strategy (balanced view) on behavioural intention toward knowledge sharing and its subsequent impact on knowledge performance. Several research hypotheses have been formulated and tested empirically to justify proposed framework based on profound theoretical annotations. Structural equation modelling (SEM) using SPSS 22, PROCESS macro and AMOS 20 were applied to test the prepositions after collecting data from knowledge-intensive business firms. The study provides empirical evidences for the relationship among KM strategy (tacit, explicit), behavioural intent to share knowledge and performance. A later section of the study offers theoretical and managerial implications followed by limitations, suggestions and concluding remark.

Sustainability has been regarded as a panacea for organisational flexibility from the past few years of management research, but there remains considerable research gap in terms of the empirical linkage between the latent constructs of sustainable HRM and organisational flexibility. The purpose of this paper is to explore whether the employee perceptions of sustainable HRM practices affects the organisational flexibility via three intervening variables such as employee voice behaviour, organisational learning culture and employee satisfaction. The authors find a positive association between the sustainable HRM practices and organisational flexibility. The results also suggest that the three intervening variables act as partial mediators corresponding to the direct linkage. This present study adds value because of the nascent stage of the sustainable HRM construct and less number of empirical studies that have examined the linkage between sustainability and flexibility, not only in the Indian context but also in the advanced economies.

The last decade experienced severe financial turbulence in developed markets and its impact on developing and emerging markets. This turmoil creates market stagnation and dramatic shift from developed and emerging market to recovering markets. In this turbulent environment, scholars and practitioners viewed inward for the sources of value creation and advocated that knowledge is the primary source of value creation. Theories of knowledge-based competition consider knowledge management vital for bringing significant strategic outcomes for the success of the organization – improving competitive position, achieving higher corporate valuation, accelerating business growth, and so on. A systematic review of the literature reveals a significant body of evidence, supporting the role of human resource management in knowledge management to create and sustain competitive advantage. Yet, in previous studies, strategic human resource management perspective towards knowledge management process and their linkages were not fully addressed. To address this gap, this study proposes a theoretical framework and explores the linkages between human resource configuration and knowledge management process drawing on theoretical insights of strategic human resource management. This study presents an apparent understanding of the effect of human resource configuration on knowledge management process, one that is theoretically supported and posits that human resource configuration is the eventual foundation of KM. This study makes a significant contribution to emerging strategic human resource management and knowledge management literature. Further, the managerial implications are also discussed.

A time-domain large-signal model is developed to investigate nonlinear interactions between picosecond optical pulses and semiconductor active waveguide devices, including distributed-feedback and Fabry-Perot lasers, as well as optical amplifiers. The model predicts interesting phenomena such as transform-limited superluminal transmission and directional DFB amplification. The influence of electrical carrier dynamics and feedback from a Bragg grating and/or reflecting facets on output pulses are demonstrated. Moreover, it is found that the time delay of the reflected and transmitted pulses is strongly related to the Bragg grating parameters, as well as to carrier dynamics. As a consequence, careful attention should be paid when the notions of group refractive index and group velocity are to be used in device modeling.

In this paper, we propose a dynamic threshold and verifiable multi-secret sharing scheme using Pell's equation with Jacobi symbol. Some secrets are protected by distributing them among many participants, whereby only an authorized group of participants can reconstruct the secrets. In out scheme, the secret will change periodically and the dealer will periodically publish some of the information, in addition, the participants can verify the information which they have received. Each participant holds only one permanent, private secret, and some of them use it during different time periods to reconstruct the corresponding shared secrets without revealing their own private information. Because some public information is renewed in our scheme, the old information has nothing to do with the next secret. Dynamic multi-secrete sharing scheme developed is a public key cryptosystem and it is based on Pell's equation. This paper demonstrates algorithms for key generation, encryption and decryption based on Pell's equation with Jacobi symbol.

The aim of this paper is to study the influence of the determinants such as business model innovation (BMI) and organisational mindfulness (OM) on the corporate sustainability (CS) and organisational effectiveness (OE) with special reference to select pharmaceutical firms in India. The survey which was adopted and designed on five-point Likert scale was disseminated both via web-based and manual channels. Multivariate multiple regression analysis (MMRA) from the family of general linear model (GLM) is used to observe the explained variability of both the dependent variables by the independent variables individually. Key findings of the study underlines that an organisation which is highly sensitive to perception and depicts the flexibility in its behaviour by responding to diverse changing stimuli and those organisations who innovate by leveraging the internal resources would contribute to the enhancement of CS and OE. This study has implications for both practitioners and academicians.

In recent years, compassion has attracted the attention of organisational psychologists as there is a huge scope of exploring the domain of compassion in the literature on organisational behaviour. This study fills the gap by investigating the impact of compassion on organisational identification by conducting a survey among the employees working in the financial sector of India. For testing the theoretical model, a sample of 454 respondents was used, and for analysing the data, confirmatory factor analysis and structural equation modelling were employed. The findings indicated that compassion directly affects organisational identification, but indirectly impacts through the mediating effect of positive emotion. The theoretical model as well as all the propositions was supported, and depending on the finding, we proposed both the practical and theoretical implications. Managers need to develop compassionate acts among members in the workplace, which in turn will improve the efficiency and effectiveness of an organisation.

This study investigates the effects of employees' organisational justice perceptions (i.e. distributive, procedural and interactional justice) on knowledge sharing (KS) behaviour. Moreover, this work investigates the effect of work engagement on knowledge sharing behaviour and mediating effects of work engagement between justice dimensions and knowledge sharing behaviour. The linkages are tested with respect to the select public sector banks in India. A total of 225 responses were collected out of 294 respondents to whom the questionnaire was sent to, resulting a response rate of 76.53%. The results of this study revealed that distributive, procedural and interactional justice have a positive impact on knowledge sharing behaviour. The results further indicate that work engagement positively affects knowledge sharing behaviour, and acts as a partial mediator between justice dimensions and knowledge sharing. Further, the implications of the findings, limitations, and suggestions for future research are discussed.

Splicing between single-mode fiber (SMF) and photonic crystal fiber (PCF) using a conventional electric-arc splicer is not easily achieved. It is reported, for the first time, that the condensation within the capillaries resulted in a bubble developed at the fiber ends in the midst of splicing. A novel and effective splicing technique using a CO/sub 2/ laser has successfully eliminated this limitation and a complete splicing process is achieved within 3-5 s. The splice losses have been recorded to be in the range of 1.3-2.8 dB; the high splice losses are possibly due to the field-mode discrepancy of the sampled PCF with a diameter of 100 /spl mu/m.

Three haptens of the organophosphorus (OP) toxicant ‘sarin’ having different spacer arm were designed and synthesized. Haptens were conjugated with BSA (bovine serum albumin) and ovalbumin (OVA) for raising antibody and coating antigen. High antibody titer with higher specificity was obtained from 4-(4-(isopropoxy(methyl)phosphoryloxy)phenylamino)-4-oxobutanoic acid (hapten B) having reasonable long spacer arm. For the standard curve, an IC 50 (inhibitory concentration) of free antigen was found to be 0.415 μg mL −1 on the basis of indirect competitive ELISA. The study revealed that heterology in competition inhibition enzyme immunoassay (CIEIA) produced remarkable improvement in the sensitivity and specificity of the assay. Under the optimized conditions, the quantitative working range was found to be 0.19–1.56 μg mL −1 with a limit of detection (LOD) of 0.05 μg mL −1 . The antibodies showed negligible cross reactivity (CR) with other OP toxicants and pesticides, which makes the assay suitable for the selective detection of sarin.

The extraction of actinides from high active aqueous raffinate waste (HAW) as well as high-level waste (HLW) solutions arising from Purex processing of thermal reactor fuels has been studied using a mixture of octyl(phenyl)-N N-diisobutylcarbamoyl-methylphosphine oxide (CMPO) and TBP in dodecane. The results on the extraction and stripping of actinides, lanthanides, and other fission products are discussed. Optimum conditions are proposed for the efficient recovery of residual actinides from HAW and HLW streams by CMPO extraction followed by their selective stripping with suitable reagents. Experiments on the extraction and separation of actinides and lanthanides by CMPO in the presence of TBP in dodecane have also been carried out with U(VI) and Nd(III) to arrive at the limiting conditions for avoiding third-phase formation.

The computer-based control and the implementation of an energy-efficient pressure cycle comminution technique for ore reduction are presented. The effects of various parameters, such as permeability, porosity, saturation time, and applied pressure, on process performance and modeling of a machine designed to reduce the particle size of porous material in tension through the use of rapid depressurization of water-saturated ore are discussed. In addition, the synergistic effect of surface energy modifiers and pressurization to achieve better performance is discussed. >

We studied the impact of coherent crosstalk on system performance in optical add-drop multiplexers (OADM's) in both aligned and misaligned bit pattern cases. The concept of fading penalty is introduced to evaluate the impact. The results indicate that bit pattern misalignment will reduce the impact of coherent crosstalk when the crosstalk level is low and the number of crosstalk paths is large, but will increase it when these conditions are not satisfied.

Fiber Bragg grating (FBG) based rearrangeable nonblocking optical cross connects (OXC's) using multiport optical circulators are proposed in this letter. The use of multiport optical circulators instead of three-port circulators can be more efficient for large optical cross connects systems. Performance evaluations of proposed large dimension optical cross connects are investigated.

Silica photonic crystal fiber (PCF) is a new type of fiber that has an array of microscopic air holes running along its length. Splicing PCF to standard single-mode fiber (SMF) is a challenging task, but it is also important because of the potential broad applications. Proper splicing of SMF to PCF is imperative in order to avoid collapsing of the PCF on the air holes; however, the two types of fiber require different laser powers for melting. A laser splicing system is developed to demonstrate its effectiveness at splicing between the large-mode-area PCF and SMF with low splice loss.

This paper aims to explore how authentic leadership potentially leads to superior innovation capability by fostering creativity components namely: intrinsic motivation, creativity-relevant skills and domain-relevant skills. The insights drawn from this study make known three patterns of relationships among authentic leadership, creativity and innovation capability and, establish the impact of authentic leadership on innovation capability through components of creativity. Based on these insights, some of the significant implications of the study are that, practitioners can get the knowledge on how to foster creativity components to a great extent through authentic leadership and how to motivate employees towards creative and innovative practices which further boost firm's capability to innovate and, compete in the market. Further implications and future prospects are discussed in detail.

The concept of social innovation encompasses coming up with sustainable novel solutions to societal predicaments. Although it has received considerable attention in recent years due to its significance for sustainable development in the wake of rising social, economic and environmental challenges, researchers have yet to analyse the underlying processes that engender social innovation in organisations. With the primary aim of investigating into these underlying mechanisms, the role of organisational leadership, specifically, ethical leadership, and that of implementation of social responsibility initiatives in fostering social innovation is examined. A conceptual model that incorporates diverse domains of literature - ethical leadership, organisational culture (competing values framework), proactive corporate social responsibility, social capital, psychological capital and social innovation, and manifests the way interaction amongst these domains can be instrumental in enhancing social innovation is proposed. After discussing relationships proposed in the original integrated view of these domains, the implications and suggestions for future research are illuminated.

This article investigates a mediated model of psychological contract (PC) fulfilment on perceptions of organisational justice, work engagement and knowledge sharing (KS) behaviour. It is advocated that fulfilment of psychological contract can influence justice perceptions, which in turn will positively influence employees' outcome. The indirect effect of psychological contract fulfilment involves shaping perception of organisational justice, which in turn, increases employees' knowledge sharing (KS) behaviour and work engagement. The authors have conducted the present empirical attestation by collecting the responses from the select public sector banks in India. A total of 264 completely filled questionnaires were collected from the junior and middle-level management employees, with a response rate of 69.65. Furthermore, theoretical and practical implications, limitations and suggestions for future research are presented.

In a dynamic business environment, identifying the most efficient and effective business practice which could sustain the growth prospects of an organisation has been a great challenge. In the light of it, the present study highlights the opportunity of leveraging the organisation's human capital potential to endow with rapid reaction to turbulent environment and enhance performance. This research investigates the impact of HCM drivers on the organisational performance and also attempts to measure the human capital management (HCM) maturity level index, using a sample of 372 respondents from the select Indian public sector banks. Partial least squares structural equation modelling (PLS-SEM) was adopted in order to test the hypotheses. Findings and implications of the study are discussed, along with the limitations and future research avenues.

Numerous studies have focused on the aggregate impact of corporate social responsibility (CSR) on employee behaviour. However, there are few studies which have investigated the differential effects of CSR components on employee behaviour. The objective of this study is to investigate the differential effects of CSR on compassion at the workplace based on social exchange mechanisms. The proposed model was tested on 478 employees who are working in the financial industry of the north-eastern states of India. The study revealed that CSR to social and non-social stakeholders, customers, government, and employees act as significant predictors of compassion in the workplace.

Splicing between single mode fiber (SMF) and photonic crystal fiber (PCF) using conventional electric arc splicer is not easily achieved, the condensation within the capillaries resulted in bubble developed at the fiber-ends in the midst of splicing is observed. A novel and effective splicing technique using CO/sub 2/ laser has successfully eliminated this limitation and a complete splicing process is achieved within few seconds. The splice losses have been recorded to be in the range of 1.3-2.8 dB; the high splice losses are possibly due to the field mode discrepancy of the sampled PCF with a diameter of 100 /spl mu/m.

A semi-analytical method has been presented in this paper to evaluate the natural frequencies as well as displacement and stress eigenvectors for simply supported, cross-ply laminated and sandwich plates by using higher order mixed theory. Models based on equivalent single layer as well as layerwise (LW) theories have been formulated. By assuming a non-linear variation of axial displacements through the plate thickness, the warping of the transverse cross-section has been considered. Hamilton’s principle has been employed to derive the equilibrium equations. The proposed LW model fulfills a priori the continuity of displacements as well as the transverse and the normal stress components at each interface between two adjacent layers. Results obtained by present higher order mixed theory have been found in good agreement with those obtained by three-dimensional elasticity solutions. After establishing the accuracy of present results for orthotropic plates, new results for thin and thick sandwich plates have been presented which can serve as benchmark solutions for future investigations.

An actively harmonic mode locked fiber ring laser was setup and the stability in the vicinity of the harmonic modulation frequency was analyzed. A new cavity length feedback system was implemented to realize long-term stability. A chaos phenomena in the actively harmonic mode locked fiber ring laser was observed.

Stable bound soliton pulses with FWHM duration 326 fs and fixed separation 938 fs were first observed in a passively mode locked fiber laser. The bound solitons formation mechanism and the transmission effects in fiber were investigated.

Quantum well intermixing (QWI) has been developed in III-V semiconductors to modify the quantum well (QW) profile in selected regions to enhance the blue shift of the optical absorption edge after growth. Laser induced disordering (LID) is one of the QWI techniques, which is impurity free and offers the possibility of direct writing capability. Pulsed-photoabsorption induced disordering (P-PAID) is a LID technique whereby the absorption of high-energy pulses from Nd:YAG laser pulses causes bond breaking and lattice disruption leading to an increased density of point defects. Subsequent high temperature annealing results in diffusion of the point defects and enhances the QWI rate. The laser pulses used were of similar duration to the thermal time constant of InP in order to minimize the effects of lateral diffusion. So far, photoluminescence (PL) spectroscopy measurements have demonstrated that the spatial resolution of the process is better than 25 /spl mu/m. Time resolved photoluminescence measurements of the same sample have indicated a spatial resolution better than 20 /spl mu/m. Micro-Raman spectra were taken in a backscattering configuration in an increment of 2.5 /spl mu/m from the gold masked region.

Occupant safety systems are incorporated in vehicles to meet the requirements of occupant protection. For optimum performance safety devices require tailored activation. This paper presents a supervisory control approach using predictive collision sensor information to augment the performance of safety systems. The supervisory approach determines the potential for a collision to occur, and assists in deployment decision-making. Decision-making is based on the obstacle range, and closing velocity information obtained from the anticipatory sensor, and a reference signal indicative of the host-vehicle deceleration. The multi-input supervisory control system consists of a fuzzy rule-based system, which determines the potential for a collision to occur, and deployment command generation for activation of respective safety devices.

A wavelength conversion technique which can convert an input signal to many wavelengths simultaneously without any probe laser is proposed. 622 Mb/s one-to-six wavelength conversion and multicast in a bus network are demonstrated.

A novel single-fiber bi-directional optical add/drop multiplexer is proposed for wavelength division multiplexing distribution networks. It has the advantages of low insertion loss, low cost, and providing protection function passively to the distribution ring network.

A unique, low-cost laser radar is described. The system employs a pulsed semiconductor laser-diode transmitter operating at a 820-nm wavelength, a p-i-n diode receiver, and an ECL counter to measure the time of flight of the laser pulse. The target tracking is achieved by a conic scan technique, and a personal computer performs the necessary computation to display the range, position, and speed of the target. >

The increasing interest in both practice and scholarship is facilitating the ongoing research on corporate sustainability. The aim of this paper is to investigate the influence of organisational ambexterity (OA) and organisational change for sustainability (OCS) in achieving corporate sustainability (CS) and in turn contributing to the organisational effectiveness. In addition to the above mentioned direct relationships, the study further explores the interaction effects of the moderating variables such as employee integration (EI) and resource endowments (RE). The study is undertaken in the context of select pharmaceutical companies in India with a sample size of 245 respondents. Structural equation modelling was used as a method for the statistical validation of the latent constructs. The key finding of the study reveals that OA, OCS significantly predicts and also explains the variability of the latent constructs CS and OE.
