Abstract: Abstract A measurement of the inclusive ep scattering cross section is presented in the region of low momentum transfers, 0.2 GeV2 ≤Q 2≤12 GeV2, and low Bjorken x, 5⋅10−6≤x≤0.02. The result is based on two data sets collected in dedicated runs by the H1 Collaboration at HERA at beam energies of 27.6 GeV and 920 GeV for positrons and protons, respectively. A combination with data previously published by H1 leads to a cross section measurement of a few percent accuracy. A kinematic reconstruction method exploiting radiative ep events extends the measurement to lower Q 2 and larger x. The data are compared with theoretical models which apply to the transition region from photoproduction to deep inelastic scattering.

Abstract: The inclusive production of D*(+/-)(2010) mesons in deep-inelastic e(+/-)p scattering is measured in the kinematic region of photon virtuality 100 1 5 GeV The data were collected by the H1 experiment during the period from 2004 to 2007 and correspond to an integrated luminosity of 351 pb(-1) The charm contribution. Abstract: A measurement of elastic deeply virtual Compton scattering gamma*p --> gamma p using e(+) p and e(-) p collision data recorded with the HI detector at HERA is presented. The analysed data sample corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 306 pb(-1), almost equally shared between both beam charges. The cross section is measured as a function of the virtuality Q(2) of the exchanged photon and the centre-of-mass energy W of the gamma*p system in the kinematic domain 6.5 < Q(2) < 80 GeV2, 30 < W < 140 GeV and |t| < 1 GeV2, where t denotes the squared momentum transfer at the proton vertex. The cross section is determined differentially in t for different Q(2) and W values and exponential t-slope parameters are derived. Using e(+) p and e(-) p data samples, a beam charge asymmetry is extracted for the first time in the low Biorken x kinematic domain. The observed asymmetry is attributed to the interference between Bethe-Heitler and deeply virtual Compton scattering processes. Experimental results are discussed in the context of two different models, one based on generalised parton distributions and one based on the dipole approach. (C) 2009 Elsevier B.V. Abstract: Inclusive non-diffractive photoproduction of rho(770)(0), K*(892)(0) and phi(1020) mesons is investigated with the H1 detector in ep collisions at HERA. The corresponding average gamma p centre-of-mass energy is 210 GeV. The mesons are measured in the transverse momentum range 0.5 < p(T) < 7 GeV and the rapidity range vertical bar y(lab)vertical bar < 1. Abstract: A combination is presented of the inclusive deep inelastic cross sections measured by the H1 and ZEUS Collaborations in neutral and charged current unpolarised e ± p scattering at HERA during the period 1994-2000. The data span six orders of magnitude in negative four-momentum-transfer squared, Q 2, and in Bjorken x. The combination method used takes the correlations of systematic uncertainties into account, resulting in an improved accuracy. The combined data are the sole input in a NLO QCD analysis which determines a new set of parton distributions, HERAPDF1.0, with small experimental uncertainties. Abstract: Simulation results for (a) interfacial alloying and (b) the Villain instability are presented. Both phenomena are important for the interface structure of epitaxial heterolayers and involve new scaling laws. For (a) a mechanism is discussed, which in a limiting case leads to a concentration profile decaying like (distance from the interface) −2 . In (b) the critical film thickness is estimated, at which the Villain instability becomes important. Its scaling with the diffusion constant and the Schwoebel length can be combined with results on the strain dependence of these parameters in order to predict what kind of strains enhance or suppress the instability.

Abstract: A search for second and third generation scalar and vector leptoquarks produced in ep collisions via the lepton flavour violating processes ep -> mu X and ep -> tau X is performed by the H1 experiment at HERA. The full data sample taken at a centre-of-mass energy sqrt{s} = 319 GeV is used for the analysis, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 245 pb^-1 of e^+ p and 166 pb^-1 of e^- p collision data. No evidence for the production of such leptoquarks is observed in the H1 data. Leptoquarks produced in e^+- p collisions with a coupling strength of lambda=0.3 and decaying with the same coupling strength to a muon-quark pair or a tau-quark pair are excluded at 95% confidence level up to leptoquark masses of 712 GeV and 479 GeV, respectively., 22 pages, 3 figures, 4 tables

Abstract: A measurement is presented of the inclusive neutral current e±p scattering cross section using data collected by the H1 experiment at HERA during the years 2003 to 2007 with proton beam energies Ep of 920, 575, and 460 GeV. The kinematic range of the measurement covers low absolute four-momentum transfers squared, 1.5GeV2 < Q2 < 120 GeV2, small values of Bjorken x, 2.9 10-5 < x < 0.01, and extends to high inelasticity up to y = 0.85. The structure function FL is measured by combining the new results with previously published H1 data at Ep = 920 GeV and Ep = 820 GeV. Abstract: A measurement is presented of inelastic photo- and electroproduction of J/ψ mesons in ep scattering at HERA. The data were recorded with the H1 detector in the period from 2004 to 2007. Single and double differential cross sections are determined and the helicity distributions of the J/ψ mesons are analysed. The results are compared to theoretical predictions in the colour singlet model and in the framework of non-relativistic QCD. Calculations in the colour singlet model using a kT factorisation ansatz are able to give a good description of the data, while colour singlet model calculations to next-to-leading order in collinear factorisation underestimate the data. © 2010 The Author(s)., 0, SCOPUS: ar.j, info:eu-repo/semantics/published

Abstract: A search for single top quark production is performed in the full ep data sample collected by the H1 experiment at HERA, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 474 pb^-1. Decays of top quarks into a b quark and a W boson with subsequent leptonic or hadronic decay of the W are investigated. A multivariate analysis is performed to discriminate top quark production from Standard Model background processes. An upper limit on the top quark production cross section via flavour changing neutral current processes sigma (ep -> etX) < 0.25 pb is established at 95% CL. Limits on the anomalous coupling kappa_{tu gamma} are derived., Revised version with small text changes. 22 pages, 6 figures

Abstract: A measurement of the inclusive ep scattering cross section is presented in the region of low momentum transfers, 0.2∈GeV2 ≤Q 2≤12∈GeV2, and low Bjorken x, 5.10 -6x≤0.02. The result is based on two data sets collected in dedicated runs by the H1 Collaboration at HERA at beam energies of 27.6∈GeV and 920∈GeV for positrons and protons, respectively. A combination with data previously published by H1 leads to a cross section measurement of a few percent accuracy. A kinematic reconstruction method exploiting radiative ep events extends the measurement to lower Q 2 and larger x. Abstract: Inclusive charm and beauty cross sections are measured in e-p and e+p neutral current collisions at HERA in the kinematic region of photon virtuality 5 ≤ Q2≤2000 GeV2 and Bjorken scaling variable 0. 0002≤x≤0.05. The data were collected with the H1 detector in the years 2006 and 2007 corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 189 pb-1. The numbers of charm and beauty events are determined using variables reconstructed by the H1 vertex detector including the impact parameter of tracks to the primary vertex and the position of the secondary vertex. Abstract: The cross section for the diffractive deep-inelastic scattering process ep - GT eXp is measured, with the leading final state proton detected in the H1 Forward Proton Spectrometer. The data sample covers the range x(P) LT 0.1 in fractional proton longitudinal momentum loss, 0.1 LT vertical bar t vertical bar LT 0.7 GeV2 in squared four-momentum transfer at the proton vertex and 4 LT Q(2) LT 700 GeV2 in photon virtuality. The cross section is measured four-fold differentially in t, x(P), Q2 and beta = x/x(P), where x is the Bjorken scaling variable. The t and x(P) dependences are interpreted in terms of an effective pomeron trajectory and a sub-leading exchange. The data are compared with perturbative QCD predictions at next-to-leading order based on diffractive parton distribution functions previously extracted from complementary measurements of inclusive diffractive deep-inelastic scattering. The ratio of the diffractive to the inclusive ep cross section is studied as a function of Q(2), beta and x(P).

Abstract: Measurements of cross sections for events with charm and beauty jets in deep inelastic scattering at HERA are presented. Events with jets of transverse energy E_T^jet > 6 GeV and pseudorapidity -1.0 < eta^jet < 1.5 in the laboratory frame are selected in the kinematic region of photon virtuality Q^2 > 6 GeV^2 and inelasticity variable 0.07 < y < 0.625. Measurements are also made requiring a jet in the Breit frame with E_T^*jet > 6 GeV. The data were collected with the H1 detector in the years 2006 and 2007 corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 189 pb^-1. The numbers of charm and beauty jets are determined using variables reconstructed using the H1 vertex detector with which the impact parameters of the tracks to the primary vertex and the position of secondary vertices are measured. Abstract: A search for events containing an isolated electron or muon and missing transverse momentum produced in ep collisions is performed with the H1 and ZEUS detectors at HERA. The data were taken in the period 1994-2007 and correspond to an integrated luminosity of 0.98 fb^-1. The observed event yields are in good overall agreement with the Standard Model prediction, which is dominated by single W production. In the e+p data, at large hadronic transverse momentum PtX >25 GeV, a total of 23 events are observed compared to a prediction of 14.0 \pm 1.9. The total single W boson production cross section is measured as 1.06 \pm 0.16 (stat.) \pm 0.07 (sys) pb, in agreement with an SM expectation of 1.26 \pm 0.19 pb., 19 pages, 3 figures, v2 updated to correspond to Journal version

Abstract: Events with at least two high transverse momentum leptons (electrons or muons) are studied using the H1 and ZEUS detectors at HERA with an integrated luminosity of 0.94 fb^{-1}. The observed numbers of events are in general agreement with the Standard Model predictions. Seven di- and tri-lepton events are observed in e^+p collision data with a scalar sum of the lepton transverse momenta above 100 GeV while 1.94+-0.17 events are expected. Such events are not observed in e^-p collisions for which 1.19+-0.12 are predicted. Total visible and differential di-electron and di-muon photoproduction cross sections are extracted in a restricted phase space dominated by photon-photon collisions., Comment: 18 pages, 3 figures, revised version with small textual changes

19. Interfacial mixing in heteroepitaxial growth.

Abstract: We investigate the growth of a film of some element B on a substrate made of another substance A in a model of molecular beam epitaxy. A vertical exchange mechanism (partial surfactant behavior) allows the A atoms to stay on the growing surface with a certain probability. Using kinetic Monte Carlo simulations as well as scaling arguments, the incorporation of the A 's into the growing B layer is investigated. Moreover, we develop a rate equation theory for this process. The concentration of A impurities decays in the B -film like (distance from the interface)(-1-beta), where beta approximately 0.5 for two-dimensional surfaces, approximately 0.8 in the one-dimensional case, and 1 in mean-field approximation. The power law is cut off exponentially at a characteristic thickness of the interdiffusion zone that depends on the rate of exchange of a B adatom with an A atom in the surface and on the diffusion length. Under certain conditions the interdiffusion zone is predicted to become narrower, if the growth temperature is increased.

Abstract: CPTF1, a transcription factor with significant homology to ATF/CREB bZIP factors, was identified during an expressed sequence tag (EST) analysis of in planta-expressed genes of the phytopathogen Claviceps purpurea. Using a gene-replacement approach, deletion mutants of cptf1 were created. Expression studies in axenic culture showed that the H2O2-inducible gene cpcat1 (encoding a secreted catalase) had a reduced basal expression level and no longer responded to oxidative stress in the delta cptf1 mutant. Biochemical analyses indicated that CPTF1 is a general regulator of catalase activity. Delta cptf1 mutants showed significantly reduced virulence on rye. Electron microscopical in situ localization revealed significant amounts of H2O2 in delta cptf1-infected rye epidermal tissues, indicating that the plant tissue displayed an oxidative burst-like reaction, an event not detected in wild-type infections. These data indicate that CPTF1 is involved not only in oxidative stress response in the fungus but also in modulation of the plant's defense reactions.
