Abstract: Abstract Paleogeography is the merger of sediment and volcanic facies, depositional settings, tectonic plate movements, topography, climate patterns and ecosystems through time. The construction of paleogeographic maps on tectonic plate reconstruction models requires a team effort to compile databases, data sharing standards and map projection methods. Two goals of the Paleogeography Working Group of the International Union of Geological Sciences (IUGS) program for Deep‐Time Digital Earth (DDE) are: (1) to interlink online national lexicons for all sedimentary and volcanic formations, and develop online ones for nations that currently lack these; (2) to target specific regions and intervals for testing/showcasing paleogeography output from the merger of these databases. Following those goals, we developed and applied new cloud‐based lexicon data services and interactive visualization techniques to regions in East Asia. This has been a successful collaboration among computer engineers and plate modellers and has involved stratigraphers in India (ONGC), China (Chengdu Univ. Tech., and Chinese Acad. Geol. Sci.), United States (Paleomap Project, and Purdue Univ.), Australia (GPlates visualization team) and Vietnam (Vietnam Nat. Univ.). Independent online lexicons with map‐based and stratigraphy‐based user interfaces have been developed (as of the date of this submission in March 2022) for all Proterozoic to Quaternary formations on the Indian Plate (over 800) and Vietnam (over 200), the majority of the Devonian through Neogene of China (ca. 2000) and partially for Thailand. A multi‐database search system returns all geologic formations of a desired geologic time from these four independent databases. With one click, users can plot the regional extent of one or of all of those regional formations on different plate reconstruction models of that desired age, and these polygons are filled with the lithologic facies pattern.

Abstract: Total pancreatectomy with islet autotransplantation (TPIAT) is used to treat debilitating chronic pancreatitis (CP) and acute recurrent pancreatitis (ARP) that has failed medical and endoscopic therapy. We performed a retrospective review of TPIAT patients at a free-standing children’s hospital to evaluate perioperative outcomes. Twenty patients (median age 13, 65% female) underwent TPIAT (2015 through 2017). Of the 20 patients, 95% had CP and 1 patient (5%) had ARP alone. Seventy-five percent of the patients had a pancreatitis-associated genetic mutation; 40% had pancreas divisum. The median surgical time was 757 (IQR 657 to 835) minutes. Median islet equivalents per kg of body weight (IEQ/kg) were 6404 (IQR 5018 to 7554). At 90 days postoperatively vs preoperatively, significantly fewer patients were receiving parenteral nutrition (0% vs 25%, P = .006) and opioids (45% vs 75%, P = .01). Short Form 36-Item Health Survey (SF-36) physical health module scores and total scores improved (34.0 preoperatively vs 54.6 at 90 days, P = .008, and 47.1 vs 65.3, P = .007, respectively); SF-10 physical health scores also improved (13.4 vs 33.1, P = .02). Insulin requirement decreased from 0.5 unit/kg/day to 0.4 unit/kg/day between discharge and 90 days (P = .02). TPIAT is an effective option when debilitating disease persists despite maximal medical and endoscopic therapy. Opioid, parenteral nutrition, and exogenous insulin use can successfully be weaned within 90 days after TPIAT, with gains in health-related quality of life.

Abstract: Paleogeographic maps, especially when overlain on reconstructions of ancient plate positions, represent the culmination of geoscience field mapping, basin drilling, geophysical research and methods of interpretation and correlation. During the past century, Chinese geoscientists have progressively compiled and revised many depositional facies maps from the scale of individual basins to nationwide syntheses for different slices of geologic time. However, the most recent comprehensive national compilation spanning the entire Phanerozoic was in 1985, and the most recent national compilation that spans only the Paleozoic was in 2010 (Zheng, Hu, et al., 2010; which is partly reproduced in the Supplementary materials). A major challenge is to place these facies maps of the numerous individual blocks into the larger contexts of moving plates and of their relationships to adjoining regions, especially for the diverse opinions on pre-Triassic plate tectonic models of Southeast Asia. There are many challenges in compiling the paleogeography of China in the context of Southeast Asia, especially prior to the Permian. A multi-institutional coordinated paleogeography program with user-friendly shared databases and visualization outputs from the basin- to inter-national scale is a major goal in China and Southeast Asia stratigraphy and geophysical research.

5. 293 Enhancing Your Recovery: A Mobile Application for Patients Undergoing Vascular Surgery

Abstract: Aim: With increasing demands on the healthcare system, a central (and currently essential) push for remote consultations, and an increasing number of co morbidities in the surgical population, the aim was to create an application that placed the focus on pre-hospital optimisation, education and autonomy – addressing these sector trends to enhance outcomes for patients and ease the burden on healthcare settings. Method After obtaining baseline data, I worked alongside students from the Queensland University of Technology to produce an application suitable for both iOS and android platforms. Results The application has four facets which mirror a patient’s journey from their initial outpatient appointment through to recovery. The application is easy to use, free to download and readily accessible. On opening the application, the user can select their planned operation and navigate along a personalised decision tree. Conclusions The application has been designed to educate and empower a patient to become an active participant in their care, leading to long-term changes in healthcare. Assessment is ongoing but early indications suggest that this will be a valuable tool in optimising outcomes for patients undergoing vascular surgery – leading to fewer post-operative complications and earlier restoration of functional status.

Abstract: Evolutionary trees showing interpretations of the divergences, lineages, extinctions and relative abundances of life forms through geologic time provide a very useful visualization for both public audiences and research communities. The Java-based TimeScale Creator platform was originally designed to present graphics of Earth history with a streamlined interface. We have added an evolutionary tree display column in addition to the array of other geo-history columns for chart making and on-screen exploration through any interval of geologic time. Features in the evolutionary tree display include on-screen images of life forms, single-click on/off control of color-coded family branches, pop-up windows giving additional details, embedded evolution charts of morphotypes that developed within genotypes, an option to make more-compact charts by allowing new evolutionary branches to reposition over earlier extinct branches, and export/import of some common evolution-data sharing formats. A suite of current public datapacks using this evolutionary-tree visualization include major vertebrate groups (including dinosaurs), marine plankton through the past ca. 70 million years, and the Tree of Life of extant organisms. Students and researchers can upload their own datasets using a simple tabular-data format from Excel-type spreadsheets. The package and external datapacks are freely available at www.timescalecreator.org . The intended audiences range from Earth-science classes in schools to paleontologists and evolutionary biologists who wish to compare their phylogenies to other geologic events and trends of Earth history.

8. Soil property trends and classification of alluvial floodplains, South Carolina Coastal Plain

Abstract: Alluvial soils derived from sediments of Piedmont origin occur in the Atlantic Coastal Plain of the southeastern U.S. In South Carolina, high-order rivers receiving sediment are Savannah (SV), Congaree (CN), Wateree (WA), Santee (ST), Lynches (LY), and Great Pee Dee (PD). This study investigated distribution of soil properties on natural levee, valley flat, and backswamp landforms within and among the six river floodplains and compared results to the taxonomic classifications used historically during soil survey production. This study also investigated the contribution of sediment sources to soil characteristics. Data were compiled for 65 soil pedons sampled from 16 soil survey areas during a 41-year time period. Pedons were located in three Major Land Resource Areas (MLRAs), and the results should aid in development of both land resource area and ecological site concepts. Data analyses centered on clay and silt contents, mineralogy, base saturation (BS), and cation exchange activity (CEA) classes. Evaluation of data from the six river floodplains revealed common properties among soils on fluvial landscapes across multiple MLRAs. Four soil systems, each derived from a predominant rock type, composed the Piedmont drainage basin of each river. The absolute area of each soil system differed between rivers, but sediment supplied typically did not result in great soil texture variation per landform. The land area proportion of the Carolina Slate Belt soil system had a close relationship to silt contents of the alluvial soils. On the valley flat landform of five floodplains, particle-size control section (PSCS) median clay content ranged only between 302 g kg − 1 and 405 g kg − 1 . Among all valley flats median PSCS silt content ranged between 361 g kg − 1 and 511 g kg − 1 . Slight positive downriver trends for clay were observed on SV, WA, and PD and for silt on SV and WA. Although local BS variation could be high between pedons, slight positive downriver BS trends on valley flats were observed on SV, WA, and ST. Negative BS trends were seen on LY and PD. Kaolinite was the dominant clay mineral in soils of all landforms on the six floodplains. Weatherable primary minerals in sand and silt fractions resulted in higher BS except for the LY soils, where resistant minerals composed sand and silt fractions. The semiactive CEA class occurred predominantly on all three landforms. Taxonomic analysis supported soil assignment to the suborders Aquepts or Udepts on all floodplains. Great group level Eutrudepts in South Carolina are first reported here, and they occur extensively enough on SV, CN, WA, and PD to warrant recognition in soil map units. Because most soil properties showed little variability for soils occurring in floodplains for all six rivers, botanical assessments will be needed to determine the magnitude of the role the properties have toward defining ecological sites. Ultimately, the alluvial systems may be aggregated as a single land resource area within the Coastal Plain.

Abstract: Eight guinea pigs were aerosolized with guinea pig–adapted Zaire ebolavirus (variant: Mayinga) and developed lethal interstitial pneumonia that was distinct from lesions described in guinea pigs challenged subcutaneously, nonhuman primates challenged by the aerosol route, and natural infection in humans. Guinea pigs succumbed with significant pathologic changes primarily restricted to the lungs. Intracytoplasmic inclusion bodies were observed in many alveolar macrophages. Perivasculitis was noted within the lungs. These changes are unlike those of documented subcutaneously challenged guinea pigs and aerosolized filoviral infections in nonhuman primates and human cases. Similar to findings in subcutaneously challenged guinea pigs, there were only mild lesions in the liver and spleen. To our knowledge, this is the first report of aerosol challenge of guinea pigs with guinea pig–adapted Zaire ebolavirus (variant: Mayinga). Before choosing this model for use in aerosolized ebolavirus studies, scientists and pathologists should be aware that aerosolized guinea pig–adapted Zaire ebolavirus (variant: Mayinga) causes lethal pneumonia in guinea pigs.

12. Sediment provenance and geomorphic development of soils in a blackwater ecosystem, South Carolina Coastal Plain

Abstract: Mineral soil is a conundrum on southeastern U.S. blackwater floodplains because these freshwater ecosystems are known for slow-flowing streams bearing little suspended sediment. Investigations on soils along this riparian system revealed two distinct geomorphic surfaces, the modern swamp floodplain (classified as Inceptisols according to Soil Taxonomy) and slightly elevated landforms (intra-swamp terraces) with more developed soils (Alfisols and Ultisols). This study examined soil characteristics and sediment provenance on the Black River floodplain and its tributaries in the Atlantic Coastal Plain of South Carolina to determine the properties and pedogenic relationship between these two geomorphic surfaces and to propose a theory for the geomorphic evolution for soils on these landforms. Spatial characterization of the soils will benefit ecologists researching the biological aspects of blackwater ecosystems such as the concentration and flux of dissolved organic carbon (DOC). Results showed terrace soils had aquic moisture regimes while floodplain soils had peraquic moisture regimes. Floodplain surface horizons were organic carbon-rich (5% to 25% OC) but seldom with enough to qualify as organic soil material. Discontinuities occurred within the soils of both landforms indicating two distinct sedimentological environments. The fine-earth fraction of soil profiles on both landforms generally had upper strata composed mainly of silt and clay indicative of wash load sediments underlain with sandy strata indicative of bed load deposits. Fine clay distribution and fine clay:total clay ratios (FC/TC) showed argillic horizon development in the terrace subsoils but not in the floodplain soils. Micromorphology supported argillic horizons for the terraces, but also revealed modest clay accumulation in pores and channels of the floodplain soils. These floodplain clay features are interpreted to have formed during a period of subaerial weathering. The sandy strata were likely deposited during the beginning of the transgressions following the down cutting that occurred during the regressions and sea level lows. Silt fraction comparisons between the blackwater soils and soils on other landscapes in the region suggest the silts and clays likely were deposited in an estuarine environment late in the transgressions.

Abstract: The inclusive production of π ± mesons in e + e − annihilation has been measured at c.m. energies of 14, 22 and 34 GeV for pion momenta between 0.3 ans 10 GeV/ c . The fraction of pions among the charged hadrons is above 90% at 0.4 GeV/ c and decreases to about 50% at high momenta. The scaled cross sections ( s β ) d σ d x at 14, 22 and 34 GeV as well as the 5.2 GeV data from DASP have a rather similar x dependence. After integration over the x range from 0.2 to 0.6 the cross sections indicate a monotonic decrease with increasing centre-of-mass energy.

Abstract: We present a new determination of the Ds decay constant, f_{Ds} using 5 million continuum charm events obtained with the CLEO II detector. Our value is derived from our new measured ratio of widths for Ds -> mu nu/Ds -> phi pi of 0.173+/- 0.021 +/- 0.031. Taking the branching ratio for Ds -> phi pi as (3.6 +/- 0.9)% from the PDG, we extract f_{Ds} = (280 +/- 17 +/- 25 +/- 34){MeV}. Abstract: Using 4.8 fb$^{-1}$ of data taken with the CLEO II detector, the branching fraction for the Cabibbo-suppressed decay $D^+\to\pi^0\ell^+\nu$ measured relative to the Cabibbo favored decay $D^+\to\bar{K^0}\ell^+\nu$ is found to be $0.046\pm 0.014\pm 0.017$. Using $V_{cs}$ and $V_{cd}$ from unitarity constraints, we determine $| f_+^{\pi}(0)/f_+^K(0)|^2=0.9\pm 0.3\pm 0.3$ We also present a 90% confidence level upper limit for the branching ratio of the decay $D^+ \to \eta e^+\nu_e$ relative to that for $D^+ \to \pi^0 e^+\nu_e$ of 1.5.

Abstract: Using the CLEO~II detector, we have measured the differential cross sections for exclusive two-photon production of light pseudoscalar mesons $\pi^0$, $\eta$, and $\eta^{\prime}$. From our measurements we have obtained the form factors associated with the electromagnetic transitions $\gamma^*\gamma$ $\to$ meson. Abstract: A high statistics experiment was performed on Bhabha scattering at energies between 14 and 34 GeV. Good agreement with QED was observed. The combined data on Bhabha scattering and μ pair production were found to agree with the standard theory of electroweak interaction giving sin2 θ = 0.27-0.07+0.06. Assuming for the Z0 mass a value of 90 GeV the leptonic weak coupling constants were determined to gV2 = -0.04 ± 0.06 and gA2 = 0.35 ± 0.09. A search for scalar leptons sets lower limits on the mass of scalar electrons ofMse > 16.6 GeV and of scalar muons of Msμ > 16.4 GeV. © 1982.

Abstract: Data from the Multidisciplinary drifting Observatory for the Study of Arctic Climate (MOSAiC) expedition allowed us to investigate the temporal dynamics of snowfall, snow accumulation and erosion in great detail for almost the whole accumulation season (November 2019 to May 2020). We computed cumulative snow water equivalent (SWE) over the sea ice based on snow depth and density retrievals from a SnowMicroPen and approximately weekly measured snow depths along fixed transect paths. We used the derived SWE from the snow cover to compare with precipitation sensors installed during MOSAiC. The data were also compared with ERA5 reanalysis snowfall rates for the drift track. We found an accumulated snow mass of 38 mm SWE between the end of October 2019 and end of April 2020. The initial SWE over first-year ice relative to second-year ice increased from 50 % to 90 % by end of the investigation period. Further, we found that the Vaisala Present Weather Detector 22, an optical precipitation sensor, and installed on a railing on the top deck of research vessel Polarstern, was least affected by blowing snow and showed good agreements with SWE retrievals along the transect. On the contrary, the OTT Pluvio2 pluviometer and the OTT Parsivel2 laser disdrometer were largely affected by wind and blowing snow, leading to too high measured precipitation rates. These are largely reduced when eliminating drifting snow periods in the comparison. ERA5 reveals good timing of the snowfall events and good agreement with ground measurements with an overestimation tendency. Retrieved snowfall from the ship-based Ka-band ARM zenith radar shows good agreements with SWE of the snow cover and differences comparable to those of ERA5. Based on the results, we suggest the Ka-band radar-derived snowfall as an upper limit and the present weather detector on RV Polarstern as a lower limit of a cumulative snowfall range. Based on these findings, we suggest a cumulative snowfall of 72 to 107 mm and a precipitation mass loss of the snow cover due to erosion and sublimation as between 47 % and 68 %, for the time period between 31 October 2019 and 26 April 2020. Extending this period beyond available snow cover measurements, we suggest a cumulative snowfall of 98–114 mm.

Abstract: Jamestown Canyon virus (JCV) is a member of the Bunyaviridae family, Orthobunyavirus genus, California serogroup. Replication and, ultimately, assembly and packaging rely on the process of encapsidation. Therefore, the ability of viral RNAs (vRNAs) (genomic and antigenomic) to interact with the nucleocapsid protein (N protein) and the location of this binding domain on the RNAs are of interest. The questions to be addressed are the following. Where is the binding domain located on both the vRNA and cRNA strands, is this RNA bound when double or single stranded, and does this identified region have the ability to transform the binding potential of nonviral RNA? Full-length viral and complementary S segment RNA, as well as 3′ deletion mutants of both vRNA and cRNA, nonviral RNA, and hybrid viral/nonviral RNA, were analyzed for their ability to interact with bacterially expressed JCV N protein. RNA-nucleocapsid interactions were examined by UV cross-linking, filter binding assays, and the generation of hybrid RNA to help define the area responsible for RNA-protein binding. The assays identified the region responsible for binding to the nucleocapsid as being contained within the 5′ half of both the genomic and antigenomic RNAs. This region, if placed within nonviral RNA, is capable of altering the binding potential of nonviral RNA to levels seen with wild-type vRNAs.

33. QUARTZITE-COBBLE WEATHERING IN ALLUVIAL-FAN SOILS OF THE VIRGINIA BLUE RIDGE

Abstract: Extremely weathered quartzite cobbles are embedded in Paleudults, Hapludults, and Fragiudults developed on alluvial fans along the western footslopes of the Blue Ridge, central Virginia. The cobbles are intriguing because their weathering patterns and physical condition imply long-term in situ weathering. This study was conducted to explore the feasibility of using the cobbles to correlate the soils by determining if there is a soil-cobble weathering relationship. Ninty-three cobbles were collected from 10 locations. Cobble bulk density (ρ cb ) was compared using the Kruskal-Wallis nonparametric procedure. Free Fe from the cobbles (Fe cb ) was compared with a two-level nested analysis of variance for unequal sample sizes. Pearson's correlation coefficients were calculated for ρ cb versus several soil and cobble properties. Among five sites on gently sloping landscapes, weathered ρ cb ranged from 2.17 to 2.32 Mg m -3 and was not significantly different. At the other sites ρ cb was significantly different and ranged from 2.39 to 2.52 Mg m -3 . Variation of Fe cb among cobbles within sites was 72.8%, thus making it difficult to suggest a within-site weathering scenario. Variation among sites of the Fe cb was only 13.1% suggesting similar weathering processes controlled cobble alteration across the study area. No significant correlation was found between ρ cb and soil physical properties or cobble sand fractions. Correlation coefficients for ρ cb versus Fe cb (r = -0.73 ** ), hydroxy interlayered vermiculite (r = -0.76 ** ), and slope (r = 0.69 * ) indicate that pedoenvironment is a primary factor for cobble weathering. ρ cb , Fe cb , and hydroxy-interlayered vermiculite seem to be promising parameters for correlating Blue Ridge alluvial-fan soils when sites are within narrowly defined slope classes.

34. STATISTICAL VERIFICATION OF SOIL DISCONTINUITIES IN VIRGINIA

Abstract: Soil discontinuities, defined by significant texture and mineralogical, and/or age differences, are usually verified from a small number of pedons without producing information about the local distribution of properties that define the discontinuity. A discontinuity has geomorphic significance as well as important implications for interpretations. Along the western footslopes of the Virginia Blue Ridge, Typic Paleudults and Typic Fragiudults seem to have two depositional sequences in the sola: soil texture differences and abrupt color changes are present. Our objective was to show the discontinuity occurring in the soils using data analysis and multivariate statistics. Stratified systematic unaligned sampling within a 50-m 2 area, the Wilcoxon Signed-Rank test, principal component analysis, and discriminant analysis were used to verify the discontinuities at four locations. Twenty-five soil properties were evaluated by the Wilcoxon Signed-Rank test. Nineteen significantly different properties (P = 0.10) were detected at Site 1, 17 at Site 2, 13 at Site 3, and 15 at Site 4. The first principal component (PC) loadings showed most properties contributed about equally to the first PC, with the exception of clay-free properties at Site 2 and Site 4. The second component loadings also identified clay-free properties as the best indices for defining the discontinuities. Discriminant analysis of scores from the first five principal components showed the components contributed from 91 to 96% to the discriminant functions. Discriminant functions clearly separated Unit A from Unit B at each site. Hotelling's T 2 test showed the distances were significant (P ≤ 0.001) between Unit A and Unit B multivariate means. We conclude discontinuities are present at the four locations, and they can be differentiated spatially by textural differences and clay-free indices.

Abstract: Using 13.7 fb(-1) of data recorded by the CLEO detector at Cornell Electron Storage Ring, we report evidence of two new charmed baryons: one decaying into Xi(0')(c)pi(+) with the subsequent decay Xi(0')(c)-->Xi(0)(c)gamma, and its isospin partner decaying into Xi(+')(c)pi(-) followed by Xi(+')(c)-->Xi(+)(c)gamma. We measure the following mass differences for the two states: M(Xi(0)(c)gammapi(+))-M(Xi(0)(c)) = 318.2+/-1.3+/-2.9 MeV and M(Xi(+)(c)gammapi(-))-M(Xi(+)(c)) = 324.0+/-1.3+/-3.0 MeV. We interpret these new states as the J(P) = 1 / 2(-) Xi(c1) particles, the charmed-strange analogs of the Lambda(+)(c1)(2593).

Abstract: Using a sample of $3.3\ifmmode\times\else\texttimes\fi{}{10}^{6}$ $B$-meson decays collected with the CLEO detector at the Cornell Electron Storage Ring, we have studied ${B}^{\ensuremath{-}}\ensuremath{\rightarrow}{D}^{0}{\ensuremath{\ell}}^{\ensuremath{-}}\overline{\ensuremath{\nu}}$ and ${\overline{B}}^{0}\ensuremath{\rightarrow}{D}^{+}{\ensuremath{\ell}}^{\ensuremath{-}}\overline{\ensuremath{\nu}}$ decays, where ${\ensuremath{\ell}}^{\ensuremath{-}}$ can be either ${e}^{\ensuremath{-}}$ or ${\ensuremath{\mu}}^{\ensuremath{-}}$. We distinguish $B\ensuremath{\rightarrow}D\ensuremath{\ell}\ensuremath{\nu}$ from other $B$ semileptonic decays by examining the net momentum and energy of the particles recoiling against $D\ensuremath{-}\ensuremath{\ell}$ pairs. We find $\ensuremath{\Gamma}(B\ensuremath{\rightarrow}D\ensuremath{\ell}\ensuremath{\nu})\phantom{\rule{0ex}{0ex}}=\phantom{\rule{0ex}{0ex}}(14.1\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}1.0\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}1.2){\mathrm{ns}}^{\ensuremath{-}1}$ and derive branching fractions for ${B}^{\ensuremath{-}}\ensuremath{\rightarrow}{D}^{0}{\ensuremath{\ell}}^{\ensuremath{-}}\overline{\ensuremath{\nu}}$ and ${\overline{B}}^{0}\ensuremath{\rightarrow}{D}^{+}{\ensuremath{\ell}}^{\ensuremath{-}}\overline{\ensuremath{\nu}}$ of $(2.32\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}0.17\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}0.20)%$ and $(2.20\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}0.16\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}0.19)%$, respectively, where the uncertainties are statistical and systematic. We also investigate the $B\ensuremath{\rightarrow}D\ensuremath{\ell}\ensuremath{\nu}$ form factor and the implication of the result for $|{V}_{\mathrm{cb}}|$.

Abstract: We have observed four fully reconstructed B{sup 0}{r_arrow}D{sup {asterisk}+}D{sup {asterisk}{minus}} candidates in 5.8{times}10{sup 6} {Upsilon}(4S){r_arrow}B{ovr B} decays recorded with the CLEO detector. The background is estimated to be 0.31{plus_minus}0.10 thinspthinspevents. The probability that the background could produce four or more signal candidates with the observed distribution among D{sup {asterisk}+} and D{sup {asterisk}{minus}} decay modes is 1.1{times}10{sup {minus}4} . The measured decay rate, B(B{sup 0}{r_arrow}D{sup {asterisk}+}D{sup {asterisk} {minus}})=[6.2{sup +4.0}{sub {minus}2.9}( stat){plus_minus}1.0(syst) ]{times}10{sup {minus}4} , is large enough for this decay mode to be of interest for the measurement of a time-dependent CP asymmetry. {copyright} {ital 1999} {ital The American Physical Society}

Abstract: We report the first observation of two narrow charmed strange baryons decaying to {Xi}{sup +}{sub c}{gamma} and {Xi}{sup 0}{sub c}{gamma} , respectively, using data from the CLEO II detector at the Cornell Electron Storage Ring. We interpret the observed signals as the {Xi}{sup +{prime}}{sub c}thinsp( c{l_brace}su{r_brace}) and {Xi}{sup 0{prime}}{sub c}thinsp( c{l_brace}sd{r_brace}) , the symmetric partners of the well-established antisymmetric {Xi}{sup +}{sub c}thinsp(c[ su]) and {Xi}{sup 0}{sub c}thinsp(c[ sd]) . The mass differences M({Xi}{sup +{prime}}{sub c}){minus}M( {Xi}{sup +}{sub c}) and M({Xi}{sup 0{prime}}{sub c}){minus}M( {Xi}{sup 0}{sub c}) have been measured to be 107.8{plus_minus}1.7{plus_minus}2.5 and 107.0{plus_minus}1.4{plus_minus}2.5 MeV /c{sup 2} , respectively. {copyright} {ital 1999} {ital The American Physical Society }

Abstract: The decay {tau}{sup {minus}}{r_arrow}K{sup {asterisk}{minus}}{eta}{nu}{sub {tau}} has been observed with the CLEOthinspthinspII detector. The K{sup {asterisk}{minus}} is reconstructed in two decay channels, K{sup {asterisk}{minus}}{r_arrow}K{sub S}{pi}{sup {minus}}{r_arrow} {pi}{sup {minus}}{pi}{sup +}{pi}{sup {minus}} and K{sup {asterisk}{minus}}{r_arrow}K{sup {minus}}{pi}{sup 0} . The {eta} is reconstructed from the decay {eta}{r_arrow}{gamma}{gamma} . The measured branching fraction is B({tau}{sup {minus}}{r_arrow}K{sup {asterisk}{minus}} {eta}{nu}{sub {tau}})=(2.9{plus_minus} 0.8{plus_minus}0.4){times}10{sup {minus}4} . We also measure the inclusive branching fractions without requiring the K{sup {asterisk}} resonance, B({tau}{sup {minus}}{r_arrow}K{sub S}{pi}{sup {minus}}{eta}{nu}{sub {tau}})=(1.10 {plus_minus}0.35{plus_minus}0.11){times}10{sup {minus}4} and B({tau}{sup {minus}}{r_arrow}K{sup {minus}}{pi}{sup 0}{eta}{nu}{sub {tau}})=(1.77 {plus_minus}0.56{plus_minus}0.71){times}10{sup {minus}4} . The results indicate that the K{sup {asterisk}{minus}} resonance dominates the K{sub S}{pi}{sup {minus}} mass spectrum. {copyright} {ital 1999} {ital The American Physical Society}

No evidence for a signal is found in 4.77fb−1 of data and a 95% C.L. upper limit on [τγγBπ+π−]fJ(2220) of 2.5 eV is set. If this result is combined with the BES Collaboration's measurement of fJ(2220)→π+π− in radiative J/Ψ decay and the recent CLEO result for [τγγBK0SK0S]fJ(2220), a 95% C.L. lower limit on the stickiness of 102 is obtained. This result for the stickiness provides further support for a substantial neutral parton content in the fJ(2220). © 1998 The American Physical Society.

Abstract: We report the first observation of B{r_arrow}{eta}{sup {prime}}X transitions with high momentum {eta}{sup {prime}} mesons. We observe 39.0{plus_minus}11.6 B decay events with 2.0{lt}p{sub {eta}{sup {prime}}}{lt}2.7 GeV/c , the high momentum region where background from b{r_arrow}c processes is suppressed. We discuss the physical interpretation of the signal, including the possibility that it is due to b{r_arrow}sg{sup {asterisk}} transitions. Given that interpretation, we find B(B{r_arrow}{eta}{sup {prime}}X{sub s} )=[6.2{plus_minus}1.6(stat){plus_minus} 1.3(syst){sup +0.0}{sub {minus}1.5} (bkg)]{times}10{sup {minus}4} for 2.0{lt}p{sub {eta}{sup {prime}}}{lt}2.7 GeV/c . {copyright} {ital 1998} {ital The American Physical Society }

Abstract: We have searched for two-body charmless decays of B mesons to purely hadronic exclusive final states including $\omega$ or $\phi$ mesons using data collected with the CLEO II detector. With this sample of $6.6 \times 10^6$ B mesons we observe a signal for the $\omega K^+$ final state, and measure a branching fraction of B($B^+ \to \omega K^+$) = 1.5 +0.7 -0.6 +-0.2 $\times 10^{-5}$. We also observe some evidence for the $\phi K^*$ final state, and upper limits are given for 22 other decay modes. These results provide the opportunity for studies of theoretical models and physical parameters.

Abstract: We have observed the decay ${B}^{+}\ensuremath{\rightarrow}{\overline{D}}^{0}{K}^{+}$, using $3.3\ifmmode\times\else\texttimes\fi{}{10}^{6}$ $B\overline{B}$ pairs collected with the CLEO II detector at the Cornell Electron Storage Ring. We find the ratio of branching fractions $R\ensuremath{\equiv}B({B}^{+}\ensuremath{\rightarrow}{\overline{D}}^{0}{K}^{+})/B({B}^{+}\ensuremath{\rightarrow}{\overline{D}}^{0}{\ensuremath{\pi}}^{+})\phantom{\rule{0ex}{0ex}}=\phantom{\rule{0ex}{0ex}}0.055\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}0.014\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}0.005$.

Abstract: We have studied semileptonic B meson decays with a p-wave charm meson in the final state using 3.29×10^6 BB events collected with the CLEO II detector at the Cornell Electron-Positron Storage Ring. We find a value for the exclusive semileptonic product branching fraction B(B^-→D_1^0l^-ν _l)B(D_1^0→D^(*+)π^-) = (0.373±0.085±0.052±0.024)% and an upper limit for B(B^-→D_2^(*0)l^-ν_l)B(D_2^(*0)→D^(*+)π^-)

Abstract: We have observed a signal for the decay D^(*+)→D^+γ at a significance of 4 standard deviations. From the measured branching ratio B(D^(*+)→D^+γ)/B(D^(*+)→D^+π^0) = 0.055±0.014±0.010 we find B(D^(*+)→D^+γ) = 0.017±0.004±0.003, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second is systematic. We also report the highest precision determination of the remaining D^(*+) branching fractions.

Abstract: Using 3.1 fb$^{-1}$ of data accumulated at the $\Upsilon$(4S) by the CLEO-II detector, corresponding to 3.3 million $B\bar{B}$ pairs, we have searched for the color-suppressed $B$ hadronic decay processes: $\bar{B}^0 \to D^0 (D^{*0}) X^0$, where $X^0$ is a light neutral meson $\pi^0$, $\rho^0$, $\eta$, $\eta'$ or $\omega$. No obvious signal is observed. We set 90 % C.L. upper limits on these modes, varying from $1.2 \times 10^{-4}$ for $\bar{B}^0 \to D^0 \pi^0$ to $1.9 \times 10^{-3}$ for $\bar{B}^0 \to D^{*0} \eta'$.

Abstract: In a sample of 6.6×10^6 produced B mesons we have observed decays B→η′K, with branching fractions B(B^+→η′K^+) = (6.5_(-1.4)^(+1.5)±0.9)×10^(-5) and B(B^0→η′K^0) = (4.7_(-2.0)^(+2.7)±0.9)×10^(-5). We have searched with comparable sensitivity for 17 related decays to final states containing an η or η′ meson accompanied by a single particle or low-lying resonance. Our upper limits for these constrain theoretical interpretations of the B→η′K signal.
