Worker doses received from non-fixed surface contamination for transport of radioactive materials were evaluated for 356 nuclides in TECDOC-1449 published by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). In this study, a revised evaluation model for inhalation of worker was derived based on an investigation of actual conditions of transport of radioactive materials in Japan. Evaluation scenarios for the transport of a spent fuel cask and small manually handled packages were considered. Transportation workers for indoor, outdoor and in carrier task were classified in eight groups in these scenarios. Parameters of annual working time were defined for each classified work. It is known that an especially large uniaxial magnetic anisotropy is induced only by the carousel sputtering method. In this paper, the atomic deposition process of CoFeB and CoFe films was analyzed by using a simulation of kinetic theory of gases. The results showed that the sputtered particles had markedly anisotropic incidence on the substrate, leading to different atomic distances with respect to the direction of incidence, resulting in a magnetioelastic effect. It is known that an especially large uniaxial- magnetic anisotropy was induced only by the carousel sputtering method. In this paper, an atomic deposition process of the CoFeB and CoFe films were analyzed by using simulation of Kinetic Theory of Gases. The result exhibited that the sputtered particles had remarkably anisotropic incidence to the substrate leading to different atomic distances with respect to the incident direction, which results in a magnetic elastic effect. These sputtered particles with the anisotropic incidence give rise to a main cause of the higher uniaxial- magnetic anisotropy of the films.

The temperature (4.5–550K) and angular (in the film plane) dependences of the coercivity field for physically nonpercolated nanogranular (CoFeB)x–(SiO2)1−x films with an oriented intraplane granule anisotropy have some unusual properties compared to those owing to blocking of thermally activated reorientation of the magnetic moments of the granules. At temperatures above the blocking temperature Tb≈350–370K, the dependence of the coercivity on the measurement duration is weak compared to that below Tb. Its angular (in the film plane) dependence differs qualitatively from that expected with blocking of superparamagnetic particles. This behavior is explained by the appearance of superferromagnetic ordering of the granule magnetic moments at T>Tb owing to interactions among them. As the temperature is reduced below 100K, the coercive field Hc for magnetization in the easy direction increases significantly more than expected for a blocked superparamagnetic ensemble. The Co35Fe65 magnetic films with Ru underlayer were fabricated using a special RF-magnetron sputtering method and characterized. The underlayer coating effect of improving soft magnetic properties for the GHz frequency use was investigated relating to the surface roughness and thickness of Ru underlayer and the crystalline structure and orientation of as-deposited magnetic layers. The coating of the underlayer with thickness of 10-30 A was so much effective to achieve a high uniaxial magnetic anisotropy field of 1000 Oe with the low coercivity less than 10 Oe for the higher driving frequency (ferromagnetic resonance frequency over 10 GHz), by inducing about 1% elongation of lattice parameter in the c direction of_the bct Co-Fe magnetic phase, preferred crystalline orientation of (110), (200) of the bct Co-Fe magnetic phase, and about 60% decrease of crystallite size in the Co-Fe layer. The (110) plane was preferentially parallel to the film plane and the elongated lattice in the c direction was oriented preferentially parallel to the easy magnetic axis in accord with the direction of the (200) plane space.

In order to study the magnetic interactions influence on the relaxation processes in superparamagnetic media, the magnetostatic measurements were carried out for the granular (CoFeB)x-(SiO2)1-x films with x values near percolation threshold. The observed temperature dependences of the coercivity for the samples magnetized along in-plane easy axis have shown two parts linear on with different inclination angles, which cross each other at the blocking temperature (Tb). The first part of the curve, which corresponds to the temperature range below Tb, depends on the measuring time and is related to the thermal activation nature of magnetization reversal process in the blocked superparamagnetic state. Second part of the curve, which corresponds to the temperature range above Tb, is practically independent on the measuring time and is related to existence of correlated state of superparamagnetic grains moments, i.e. to superferromagnetic state. The method of the magnetization reversal curves simulation based on the numerical solving of kinetic equation has been applied to explain the experimental results.

A directional coupler using a CoFeB magnetic/polyimide dielectric hybrid transmission line was fabricated and evaluated under a large-signal transmission condition from 0.5 to 2 W. The device consists of a [polyimide (1μm)/CoFeB (1μm)/polyimide (1μm)] sandwich between upper Cu coupled lines (3μm thick and 12μm wide) and a lower Cu ground plane (3μm). The electromagnetic coupling between the top main line and the sub-line is composed of the electric field coupling due to the stub capacitors and the magnetic field coupling through the inner magnetic film. The fabricated CoFeB magnetic thin film directional coupler exhibited excellent large-signal transmission characteristics even at a rating power of 2 W in a real cellular phone application. In addition, such a large-signal characteristic was acceptable for a wideband frequency of 0.8 to 2.4 GHz, which was mainly due to the non-resonance operation.

The dynamic magnetization process is studied in CoFeB films for high frequency application by using a time-resolved imaging technique. The domain wall mobility of 12 m/sOe was observed at the resonant frequency of 220 kHz. The effective wall mass, viscous damping constant, and restoring force constant were evaluated in CoFeB films.

A (CoFe)–(SiO2) magnetic thin film core containing a bcc Co–Fe crystal phase with high saturation magnetization and an amorphous SiO2 phase was fabricated on glass substrates by using synchronous triple-RF magnetron sputtering. The magnetic properties and crystalline structure of the films were investigated in the development of soft magnetic materials operated in the GHz range. The film exhibited a high magnetic resonance frequency (FMR) more than 4 GHz reflecting its large uniaxial anisotropy field Hk of 200 Oe, and a large saturation magnetization 4πMs of 14.5 kG and an electrical resistivity ρ of 1000 μΩ cm. It was found that amorphous SiO2 increased the anisotropy field to 100–200 Oe and that the magnetic properties were associated with changes in the nano-crystalline structure, crystallite sizes and crystallite orientation. The results indicate that (CoFe)–(SiO2) films have potential for use in magnetic cores and inductors operating at GHz frequencies.

Suppression of the insertion loss of a CoFeB/polyimide hybrid thin-film coplanar line for impedance matching in a mobile phone power amplifier module was investigated. To suppress the insertion loss of the CoFeB/polyimide hybrid coplanar line, various techniques were investigated on the basis of device simulations and fabrication. As a result, it was found that the introduction of a thick copper signal line, a multilayer magnetic film structure and optimum width of the magnetic film were effective for lowering insertion loss. Insertion loss per quarter wavelength of the fabricated devices was below 0.5 dB in the frequency range from 1 to 1.5 GHz.

The structural properties of the subsaturation coverage of 1,4-cyclohexadiene (C 6 H 8 ) on single domain Si(0 0 1)-2 × 1 surface have been investigated by using photoelectron diffraction (PD) at the C1s core level and at the photon energy of 330 eV. The high resolution core level study allows to determine the presence of a shifted replica of +0.9 eV in kinetic energy. The structural properties of adsorbed molecules are discussed at the light of ab initio multiple scattering calculations on several adsorption models with about the same least total energy. This quantitative experimental determination timely follows the many qualitative assessments present in literature for this important prototypical case of functional Si substrate and aims to fill the gaps between several experiments reported.

A hybrid thin-film coplanar transmission line with a CoFeB metallic magnetic film was fabricated and studied. The fabricated devices consisted of top and bottom 3-μm-thick aluminum conductor layers and an inner (0.5-μm-thick polyimide)/(0.5-μm- thick CoFeB)/(0.5-μm-thick polyimide) trilayer. The top conductor layer consisted of a signal line and ground planes on the same plane. The CoFeB metallic magnetic film, exposed to the same thermal process as for the device fabrication, had a static relative permeability of about 180 and an FMR frequency of about 3.7 GHz. The polyimide had a relative permittivity of about 3.5.As a result, the wavelength shortening ratio of the fabricated device was about 0.19 at a frequency of a few gigahertz. The line length and the insertion loss of a quarter-wavelength device were estimated to be about 7 mm and about 2.9 dB at 2 GHz.

The structure of benzene adsorbed on a Si(001)(2 × 1) surface up to saturation at room temperature (RT) has been studied by C 1s photoelectron diffraction (PED). Experimental C 1s PED patterns were measured for two regimes of photoelectron kinetic energies at ~ 100 eV and ~ 1000 eV. Simulation of PED patterns was made for three possible structural models predicted so far. Comparison of actual PED patterns and R-factor analysis leads to the conclusion that the so-called standard butterfly (SB) configuration of benzene is present and stable at the saturation coverage at RT. The present PED patterns were not very sensitive to geometrical parameters of absorbed benzene except for the bond length between the topmost carbons in the SB configuration.

Atomistic morphology and structure of Si(0 0 1) surface exposed to ethylene at room temperature have been studied by scanning tunneling microscopy (STM) and photoelectron diffraction (PED). At an ethylene coverage ( θ C ) of ∼0.5 monolayer (ML, carbon atom/surface Si-atom), both p(2×2) and c(4×2) structures were clearly resolved in atomistic STM images. The alignments of chemisorbed ethylene of p(2×2) and c(4×2) were confirmed by PED and further shown is that the local structure around chemisorbed ethylene at θ C ≅0.5 ML is identical to that at the saturation coverage of 1 ML.

(CoFeB)-(Si01.9) and CoFeB films were fabricated by synchronous triple RF magnetron sputtering with rotating a cylindrical electrode. Three types films for RF application in the range over 1 GHz were obtained, and these permeability characteristics and micro-structures were investigated.The as-deposited films exhibited large anisotropy field Hκ in the range from 40 to 550 Oe, and exhibited highferromagnetic resonance (FMR) frequencies of 1.6-6.0 GHz in permeability characterisrtics. The films exhibited amorphous like or hetero-amorphous structures, which led to good soft magnetic properties with electrical resistivity ρ of 100-100, 000 μΩcm and saturation magnetization 4πMs, of 6.5-20kG.It was found that the obtained larger Hκ was effective to attain the higher frequency characteristics with the lower losses for RF inductor cores.

A highly sensitive and broadband method of obtaining thin film permeability without limitations in sample size was developed based on the high-frequency impedance change because of skin effect. A meander-type probe (3.5 mm × 2.5 mm, 2 turns) was placed in proximity of a (Co25Fe75)90B10 film (45 mm × 25 mm, 0.53 μm thick), and the permeability was optimized by Newton-Raphson method. The measured values are in good agreements with theoretical values based on the Landau-Lifshitz-Gilbert equation up to 10.6 GHz. The proposed method shows promise for measuring the permeability of wafer-sized samples in line because it is not restricted by size limitations.

The effects of histamine on high-voltage-activated Ca 2+ channels in the histaminergic neurons acutely dissociated from the rat tuberomammillary nucleus were investigated in the nystatin-perforated patch recording mode under voltage-clamp conditions. Histamine suppressed the high-voltage-activated Ca 2+ channel currents in neurons which were positive for histidine decarboxylase with immunocytochemistry. The half-maximum inhibitory concentration and maximum inhibition were 2.6×10 −7 M and 16.6±1.9%, respectively. An H 3 receptor agonist, R(−)-α-methylhistamine, mimicked the response to histamine, and thioperamide, an H 3 receptor antagonist, inhibited the response to histamine. On the other hand, neither 2-methylhistamine, an H 1 receptor agonist, nor dimaprit, an H 2 receptor agonist, had a significant effect on the Ca 2+ channel currents. Pretreatment with pertussis toxin blocked the inhibitory effect of histamine on Ca 2+ channels, suggesting the involvement of Gi/Go proteins in the action of histamine. ω -Conotoxin-GVIA, ω -agatoxin-IVA, nicardipine, and ω -conotoxin-MVIIC blocked the high-voltage-activated Ca 2+ channel currents by 15.6, 4.3, 27.1, and 31.2% of the total current, respectively, suggesting the existence of N-, P-, L-, and Q-type Ca 2+ channels. A current that was insensitive to these blockers was also found. This residual current, “R-type”, was completely suppressed by the addition of 200 μM Cd 2+ . Histamine significantly inhibited both the N- and P-type current components among these five types of Ca 2+ channel currents. We concluded that histamine suppresses the N- and P-type Ca 2+ channels in histaminergic neurons through an H 3 receptor which is linked to a pertussis toxin-sensitive G-protein.

Slightly flexible 4-methylene-3-homoadamantyl mesylate solvolyzes 2 × 10 5 times faster than rigid 2-methylene-1-adamantyl mesylate. Placement of a cyano substituent on the ( E ) position of the vinylic carbon of these systems hardly alter the rate ratio (6 × 10 5 ). The result suggests fortuitous cancellation of the inductive destabilizing effect of the cyano substituent by its mesomeric stabilizing effect toward the partially conjugated allylic cation. PM3 calculations on simple allylic cations as models supported the experimental results.

B was added to the high moment CoFe thin films (Co/sub 35/Fe/sub 65/, Co/sub 25/Fe/sub 75/, and Co/sub 15/Fe/sub 85/) using synchronous triple-RF magnetron sputtering to obtain the films with large anisotropy fields greater than 500 Oe. These films required inductor core materials operating at the frequencies of several gigahertz. Magnetic properties and the crystalline structure of the CoFeB films were investigated. It was found that the B addition increased the anisotropy field to 400-700 Oe and that the increase in anisotropy field was associated with changes in the crystalline structure, crystallite sizes, and crystallite orientation. The results indicated that CoFeB films have potential for use in magnetic cores and inductors operating at gigahertz frequencies.

Magnetic anisotropies and line width of amorphous granular (Co 66.6 Fe 7.4 B 26 )-(SiO 2 ) films with various SiO 2 volume fraction (v) has been studied by using ferromagnetic resonance at 9 GHz. The perpendicular anisotropy (2K up /M s ) is 3.25 kOe for v = 0 vol.% and decreases with decrease in saturation magnetization (4πM s ) due to the increase in the SiO 2 fraction. Line width (AH) has a strong dependence on the electrical resistivity (p) and coercive force (H c ). Soft magnetic properties (H c < 1 Oe) are kept at ΔH < 100 Oe (v ≤ 20 vol.%).

We here present resisitivity and magnetoresistance measurements of two granular (CoFeB)–SiO2 amorphous thin films, with a different amount of metallic content. The films were deposited onto substrates sitting on a rotating cylinder. This induces anisotropy in the film plane, which is higher for the sample with less metallic content. This film exhibits typical isotropic giant magnetoresistance (GMR), while the film with higher-metallic content has less anisotropic resistivity, and shows a mixture of GMR and anisotropic magnetoresistance (AMR). The AMR appears at fields below 500 Oe. We believe that this has not been observed before in amorphous samples.

1. The effects of histamine on dissociated neostriatal neurones of the rat were investigated in the whole-cell mode using the nystatin-perforated patch recording technique. 2. Histamine evoked a net inward current accompanied by a decrease in the membrane conductance at a holding potential (Vh) of -44 mV. This response was observed in neurones considered to be interneurones based on morphology, membrane properties and the responsiveness to acetylcholine. 3. A net inward current evoked by 10(-8) to 10(-6) M histamine was inhibited in a concentration-dependent manner by the H1 receptor antagonists, pyrilamine and triprolidine. The H1 receptor agonists, 2-methylhistamine and 2-thiazolylethylamine, mimicked the histamine response, indicating that this response was mediated by the H1 receptor. 4. Histamine, at high concentrations between 10(-6) and 10(-5) M, evoked an additional net inward current with a decrease in the membrane conductance, which was inhibited by the H2 receptor antagonists, cimetidine, ranitidine and famotidine. The H2 receptor agonist, impromidine, partially mimicked the response. Thus, this additional current was considered to be mediated by the H2 receptor. 5. The reversal potentials for H1 and H2 receptor-operated currents shifted 56.9 and 59.3 mV for a 10-fold change in [K+]o, respectively, suggesting that these currents were carried by K+. 6. An analysis of change in current fluctuations mediated by H1 and H2 receptors suggested that the unitary current amplitudes of K+ channels linked to H1 and H2 receptors were 0.29 +/- 0.06 (n = 4) and 0.27 +/- 0.07 pA (n = 4), respectively. There was no significant difference between these values. The estimated mean life times (tau) for both channels were also identical (1.1 ms). 7. It was concluded that histamine reduces K+ currents in neostriatal interneurones and that both H1 and H2 receptors are involved in the response.

The rates and products of solvolyses in ethanol were studied for 2-methylene- and (Z)- and (E)-2-ethylidenebicyclo[2.2.2]oct-1-yl triflates. Solvolyses were also conducted in ethanol and 2,2,2-trifluoroethanol (TFE) on 2-methylene- and (Z)- and (E)-2-ethylidene-1-adamantyl compounds having OMs, F, Cl, Br, or I as a leaving group. All the substrates gave the corresponding bridgehead substitution products as kinetic control products.(...)

A parallel-plate rheometer equipped with electrodes and magnetic coils was developed for rheological measurements of electro-magneto-rheological (EMR) fluids which respond to both electric and magnetic fields. The effects of electric and magnetic fields perpendicular to the direction of shear flow were examined. It has been found that the shear stress of the fluid depends not only on the strength of the fields but also on the order of application. The apparent viscosity of the EMR fluid under shear flow increased when the electric and magnetic fields were applied simultaneously. The increase in viscosity was lower when only an electric or magnetic field was applied. The dependence of EMR fluid behavior on the external field conditions is discussed in terms of the difference between cluster structures induced by electric and/or magnetic fields.

(Co/sub 35.6/Fe/sub 50/B/sub 14.4/)-(SiO/sub 2/) soft magnetic films with electrical resistivity of over 10000 /spl mu//spl Omega/ /spl middot/ cm (1 /spl times/ 10/sup -4/ /spl Omega/m) were fabricated on glass substrates by using synchronous triple-RF magnetron sputtering. The magnetic properties, high-frequency permeability characteristics, and microstructure of the films were investigated. Maximum electrical resistivity of about 115600 /spl mu//spl Omega/ /spl middot/ cm (1.156 /spl times/ 10/sup -3/ /spl Omega/m) was obtained with a large uniaxial anisotropy field H/sub k/ of about 250 Oe, a hard axis coercivity H/sub ch/ of 5.6 Oe, and a saturated magnetization 4/spl pi/M/sub s/ of 8.3 kG. The real part of the relative permeability /spl mu/'/sub r/ was about 50, which exhibited a good flat frequency dependence up to 2 GHz. The resonance frequency was higher than 3 GHz. It was found that the heteroamorphous films had soft magnetic properties with high resistivity of over 10000 /spl mu//spl Omega/ /spl middot/ cm and high resonance frequency. The films are good candidates for core application in the gigahertz range.

The high-pressure SNAr reaction was first applied to the synthesis of new functionalized diaza-crown ethers, which are directly connected to various heteroaromatic substituents as cation binding sites. The yields of the reaction were moderate to excellent (51% to quantitative). In a CH2Cl2 liquid membrane cation-transport experiment, diaza-crown ethers having 2′-thiazoyl-, 2′-benzoxazoyl-, 2′-pyrazinyl-, and 6′-pyridazinyl groups exhibited almost perfect Ag + ion selectivity. Cation extraction and 13C-NMR titration experiments revealed that attachment of heteroaromatics to the diaza-crown ring, if in the proper position, provides excellent Ag+ ion specificity. Since the binding and transport selectivity of these crown ethers were higher than those of the known crowns, the high-pressure technique proved a useful method for synthesis odf a new type of specific crown ethers. Functionalized diaza-18-crown ethers and thioethers were prepared by high pressure SNAr reactions (0.8 GPa, 100°C) of 1,4,10,13-tetraoxa-7,16-diazacyclooctadecane and the related thio analogue with heteroaromatic halides.

Highly resistive (CoFeB)-(SiO/sub 2/) films for magnetic core of 1 GHz driving inductor were deposited on glass substrates by synchronous dual-rf magnetron sputtering. Permeability characteristics In the range of a few GHz were investigated. The thickness effect on the reciprocal of the loss factors of tan /spl delta/ (/spl mu//sub r/'//spl mu//sub r/") were investigated at 1 GHz. The film exhibited the maximum value of /spl mu//sub r/'//spl mu//sub r/" of 5.7 for film thickness d=0.1 /spl mu/m, with relative permeability of 120-150 and resonance frequency f/sub r/=1.6-1.9 GHz. The result shows good potential for magnetic core of 1 GHz driving inductor.

Field-induced anisotropy in Co-Nb-Zr-N soft magnetic thin films with 9 at% nitrogen was investigated. Samples were prepared by ion beam sputtering in Ar+N 2 . After pre-annealing for 1 hour at 600 °C, reversible relaxation of the field-induced anisotropy was observed, with ?K ux =700 to 1500 J/m3. The dependences of the anisotropy on annealing temperature T ra and annealing time t ra were studied.

We consider the influence of interparticle interaction on the magnetization reversal in the oriented Stoner-Wohlfarth nanoparticles ensemble. To do so, we solve a kinetic equation for the relaxation of the overall ensemble magnetization to its equilibrium value in some effective mean field. Latter field consists of external magnetic field and interaction mean field proportional to the instantaneous value of above magnetization. We show that the interparticle interaction influences the temperature dependence of a coercive field. This influence manifests itself in the noticeable coercivity at $T>T_{b}$ ($T_{b}$ is so-called blocking temperature). The above interaction can also lead to a formation of the "superferromagnetic" state with correlated directions of particle magnetic moments at $T>T_{b}$. This state possesses coercivity if the overall magnetization has a component directed along the easy axis of each particle. We have shown that the coercive field in the "superferromagnetic" state does not depend on measuring time. This time influences both $T_{b}$ and the temperature dependence of coercive field at $T

Highly resistive (CoFeB)-(SiO/sub 2/) amorphous films were deposited on glass substrates and polyimide sheets by synchronous dual-rf magnetron sputtering. SiO/sub 2/ volume fraction dependence of magnetic properties and resistivity was investigated. The as-deposited films for SiO/sub 2/ volume fraction /spl upsi/=20 vol.% had low coercivities of H/sub c/=0.2-0.3 Oe, together with high resistivities of 1500-2200 /spl mu/ /spl Omega/ cm. The film exhibited an anisotropy field 40 Oe, a relative permeability of 200 and a saturation magnetization of 7.3 kG. The core loss of the films was 1-1.5 J/m/sup 3/ at 1 MHz for maximum flux density B/sub m/=0.1 T. The loss was found to be as low as those of Co-based ultra-thin ribbons. The films are useful as thin film cores in the micromagnetic elements which work in the MHz range.
