1. Integrating convolutional neural networks for microscopic image analysis in acute lymphoblastic leukemia classification: A deep learning approach for enhanced diagnostic precision

Abstract: Leukemia is a type of cancer characterized by the exponential growth of abnormal blood cells, which damages white blood cells and disrupts the function of the human body’s bone marrow. It is very challenging to classify because blood smear images are complicated, and there is a lot of variation between each class. Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (B-ALL) is one of the subtypes of leukemia. It is a rapidly progressing cancer that originates in B lymphocytes, characterized by the overproduction of immature B lymphoblasts. The purpose of this work is to classify different types of B-ALL subtypes such as Benign, Malignant Early Pre-B, Malignant Pre-B, and Malignant Pro-B from the peripheral blood smear images effectively. To accomplish this task, a novel deep-learning technique based on a fine-tuned ResNet-50 model has been developed. Our fine-tuned ResNet-50 model integrates several additional customized fully connected layers, including dense and dropout layers. Various data augmentation techniques such as flipping, rotation, and zooming have been applied to mitigate the risk of overfitting. In addition, a five-fold cross-validation technique has been employed to enhance the model’s generalization. The performance of our proposed technique is compared with several other methods, including VGG-16, DenseNet-121, and EfficientNetB0, as well as existing baselines, using different performance metrics. Experimental results demonstrate the superiority of the fine-tuned ResNet-50 model, achieving the highest accuracy and an F1-score of 99.38%. It also outperforms existing state-of-the-art approaches by a significant margin. The proposed fine-tuned ReNet-50 model achieves such performance without the need for microscopic image segmentation which indicates its potential utility in healthcare sectors in enhancing precise leukemia diagnosis.

2. A real-time dataset of air quality index monitoring using IoT and machine learning in the perspective of Bangladesh

Abstract: This paper produces a real-time air quality index dataset of three places named Kuril Bishow Road, Uttara, and Tongi in Dhaka and Gazipur City, Bangladesh. The IoT framework consists of MQ9, MQ135, MQ131, and dust or PM sensors with an Arduino microcontroller to collect real data on sulfur dioxide, carbon monoxide, nitrogen dioxide, ozone, particle matters 2.5 and 10 µm. The data is stored in an Excel file as a comma-separated file and after that, authors applied regression type and classification type machine learning algorithms to analyze the data. The dataset consists of 11 columns and 155,406 rows, where sulfur dioxide, carbon monoxide, nitrogen dioxide, ozone, and particle matter 2.5 and 10 are recorded where AQI is marked as the target variable and the others are indicated as independent variables. In the dataset, AQI is categorized into five classes named Good, satisfactory, Moderate, Poor and Very Poor. After experimental results, it is seen that two places including Uttara and Kuril are comparatively suitable for Air Quality among the three places as well as the Random Forest algorithm outperforms the models. The study describes details of the embedded system's hardware as well. This dataset will be beneficial for environmental researchers to use to analyze the air quality.

Abstract: Abstract The deep underground neutrino experiment (DUNE), a 40-kton underground liquid argon time projection chamber experiment, will be sensitive to the electron-neutrino flavor component of the burst of neutrinos expected from the next Galactic core-collapse supernova. Such an observation will bring unique insight into the astrophysics of core collapse as well as into the properties of neutrinos. The general capabilities of DUNE for neutrino detection in the relevant few- to few-tens-of-MeV neutrino energy range will be described. As an example, DUNE’s ability to constrain the $$\nu _e$$ ν e spectral parameters of the neutrino burst will be considered.

Abstract: Abstract The Deep Underground Neutrino Experiment (DUNE) will be a powerful tool for a variety of physics topics. The high-intensity proton beams provide a large neutrino flux, sampled by a near detector system consisting of a combination of capable precision detectors, and by the massive far detector system located deep underground. This configuration sets up DUNE as a machine for discovery, as it enables opportunities not only to perform precision neutrino measurements that may uncover deviations from the present three-flavor mixing paradigm, but also to discover new particles and unveil new interactions and symmetries beyond those predicted in the Standard Model (SM). Of the many potential beyond the Standard Model (BSM) topics DUNE will probe, this paper presents a selection of studies quantifying DUNE’s sensitivities to sterile neutrino mixing, heavy neutral leptons, non-standard interactions, CPT symmetry violation, Lorentz invariance violation, neutrino trident production, dark matter from both beam induced and cosmogenic sources, baryon number violation, and other new physics topics that complement those at high-energy colliders and significantly extend the present reach.

Abstract: Abstract The sensitivity of the Deep Underground Neutrino Experiment (DUNE) to neutrino oscillation is determined, based on a full simulation, reconstruction, and event selection of the far detector and a full simulation and parameterized analysis of the near detector. Detailed uncertainties due to the flux prediction, neutrino interaction model, and detector effects are included. DUNE will resolve the neutrino mass ordering to a precision of 5 $$\sigma $$ σ , for all $$\delta _{\mathrm{CP}}$$ δ CP values, after 2 years of running with the nominal detector design and beam configuration. It has the potential to observe charge-parity violation in the neutrino sector to a precision of 3 $$\sigma $$ σ (5 $$\sigma $$ σ ) after an exposure of 5 (10) years, for 50% of all $$\delta _{\mathrm{CP}}$$ δ CP values. It will also make precise measurements of other parameters governing long-baseline neutrino oscillation, and after an exposure of 15 years will achieve a similar sensitivity to $$\sin ^{2} 2\theta _{13}$$ sin 2 2 θ 13 to current reactor experiments.

Abstract: The Deep Underground Neutrino Experiment (DUNE) is an international, world-class experiment aimed at exploring fundamental questions about the universe that are at the forefront of astrophysics and particle physics research. DUNE will study questions pertaining to the preponderance of matter over antimatter in the early universe, the dynamics of supernovae, the subtleties of neutrino interaction physics, and a number of beyond the Standard Model topics accessible in a powerful neutrino beam. A critical component of the DUNE physics program involves the study of changes in a powerful beam of neutrinos, i.e., neutrino oscillations, as the neutrinos propagate a long distance. The experiment consists of a near detector, sited close to the source of the beam, and a far detector, sited along the beam at a large distance. This document, the DUNE Near Detector Conceptual Design Report (CDR), describes the design of the DUNE near detector and the science program that drives the design and technology choices. 7. Light Reflection Loss Reduction by Nano-Structured Gratings for Highly Efficient Next-Generation GaAs Solar Cells

Abstract: This paper mainly focuses on increasing the conversion efficiency of GaAs solar cells by reducing the light reflection losses. The design of nano-structured gratings and their light trapping performance are modelled and optimised by using the finite-difference time-domain (FDTD) method. The sunlight directly impinges on the solar panel or cells, then a portion of the incident sunlight reflects back to the air from the surface of the panel, thus leading to a reduction in the light absorption capacity of the solar cells. In order to proliferate the light absorption capacity of solar cells nano-grating structures are employed, as they are highly capable of capturing the incident sunlight compared to a conventional (or flat type) solar cell, which results in generating more electrical energy. In this study, we design three different types of nano-grating structures, optimise their parameters and their performance in light capturing capacity. From the simulation results, we confirm that that it is possible to reduce light reflection losses up to 27%, by using the nano-grating structures, compared to conventional type solar cells. This reduction of reflection losses helps to improve the conversion efficiency of next-generation GaAs solar cells significantly for a sustainable green Earth.

Abstract: Micromechanical bending (M2B) is a newly developed micro patterning technique applied for vertically aligned carbon nanotubes (VACNTs) array, commonly known as CNT forest. This process is required to realize the various use of CNT forest in Micro-Electromechanical Systems (MEMS). There are various parameters involved in M2B process that controls the surface roughness of the processed structure of the CNT forest. However, there is no mathematical model available, yet that could predict the influence of these parameters on the surface roughness of the patterned CNT forest. In this paper, an empirical approach has been used to predict the surface roughness for the micromechanical bending (M2B) processed CNT forest. At first, several experiments were conducted by varying different process parameters such as tool rotational speed, lateral speed and a step size of the bend. Best optimized process parameters were identified at 2,000 rpm tool rotational speed, 1 mm/min lateral speed and 1 μm step size that produced a minimum surface roughness of Ra = 15 nm. Finally, a response surface methodology (RSM) based mathematical model was developed and validated with reasonable accuracy to understand the impact of different parameters on the M2B process.

Abstract: This study aims to determine the optimal configuration (position and operation duration) for wall mounted mechanical mixers based on the comparison of three-dimensional computational fluid dynamics (CFD) modelling results and physical data collected from the treatment plant. A three dimensional model of anoxic zone in 1, 2 and 3 of Northern Wastewater Treatment Plant (NWWTP) located at Cairns Regional Council, Cairns, Queensland, Australia was developed and validated. The model was used to simulate the flow pattern of the WWTP and the simulation results are in good agreement with the physical data varying between 0% to 15% in key locations. The anoxic zones were subject to velocities less than the desired 0.3 m per second however results for mixed liquor suspended solids (MLSS) concentration indicate that good mixing is being achieved. Results for suspended solids concentrations suggest that the anoxic zones are towards the upper limits recommended by literature for specific power dissipation. The duration for operation of mechanical mixers was investigated and identified that the duration could be reduced from 900 s down to 150 s. Alternative mixer positioning was also investigated and identified positioning which would increase the average flow velocity with decreased duration (150 s). The study identified that Council may achieve savings of $28,500 per year through optimisation of the mechanical mixers and would be expected to extend the operational life of the mixers.

Abstract: Introduction: Colocasia affinis Schott (Family: Araceae), found in the Asian region, is a traditional root vegetable consumed by the locals and well-known as Dwarf Elephant Ear. Methods: For the pharmacological exploration of this root vegetable, four kupchan fractions (i.e. HSF, DCMSF, EASF, and AQSF) from ethanolic extract of C. affinis were employed to in vitro i.e. antioxidant, cytotoxicity, and antimicrobial and in vivo i.e. antidiarrheal and analgesic assays, followed by phytochemical screening and GC-MS protocol. Result and Discussion: In the antioxidant assay, the AQSF showed promising potential with an IC50 value of 29.4 µg/mL and additionally, it exhibited the greatest overall phenolic content, measuring 57.23 mg GAE/gm. of extract among other fractions. The AQSF also revealed promising cytotoxic activity in brine shrimp lethality assay with an LC50 value of 1.36 µg/mL. Both AQSF and EASF exhibited substantial antimicrobial efficacy against both gram-positive and gramnegative bacteria as well as various fungus species with a remarkable zone of inhibitions compared to standards. Whereas, during both the castor oil-induced antidiarrheal and acetic acid-induced writhing assay, the DCMSF at 400 mg/kg dose exhibited the highest 51.16% reduction of diarrhea and 52.33% reduction of writhing. Phytochemical screening revealed several chemical groups while GC-MS study of different fractions of dwarf elephant ear ethanolic extract revealed 48 different bioactive phytochemicals in total. Several targets such as KAS, DHFR for anti-microbial activities, GLR, URO for antioxidant activities, EGFR, BCL-2 for cytotoxicity, KOR, DOR for antidiarrheal activities and COX-2, TNF-a for analgesic activities are considered for molecular docking against identified phytocompounds and standards along with ADME/T studies to ascertain their safety, efficacy and drug likeliness profiles. Conclusion: To recapitulate, our study revealed that vegetables such as dwarf elephant ear can be considered as a prospective source of therapeutics and drug development besides their nutritive food values. Abstract: In this paper, Estimation of Distribution Algorithm (EDA) is used for Zone Routing Protocol (ZRP) in Mobile Ad-hoc Network (MANET) instead of Genetic Algorithm (GA). It is an evolutionary approach, and used when the network size grows and the search space increases. When the destination is outside the zone, EDA is applied to find the route with minimum cost and time. The implementation of proposed method is compared with Genetic ZRP, i.e., GZRP and the result demonstrates better performance for the proposed method. Since the method provides a set of paths to the destination, it results in load balance to the network. Abstract: Background: Partial or complete thyroidectomies are frequently encountered via the working towards pathologist and the opportunity of neoplastic disease is of principal problem in patients with thyroid nodules. Pathological comparison of these specimens ranged from non-neoplastic lesion to exceedingly aggressive malignancy. The aim of this study is to assess the role of the initial modality in the investigation of thyroid lesions. Methods: This is an observational study. The study used to be carried out in the admitted patient’s department of histopathology, National institute of ear, nose and throat, Dhaka. Bangladesh. In Bangladesh for the duration of the period from June 2021 to May 2022. Results: This study shows that according to 301 patients where, most of the patients in initial modality in the investigation of thyroid lesions 95 (31.56%) were 40 to 49 years and the minimum sex distribution of study 105 (34.88%) belongs to males. Non-neoplastic of goiter were 194 (64.45%), benign cyst was 43 (14.29%), DeQuervains (Subacute) thyroiditis 11 (3.65%), Lymphocytic thyroiditis were 8 (2.65%) and hashimoto thyroiditis were 3 (1.0%). And acfemalesg to neoplastic of papillary carcinoma were 30 (9.97%), Follicular neoplasm were 9 (2.99%) and Anaplastic carcinoma were 3 (1.0%). Conclusions: Thyroid lesions are more common in female. The majority of the thyroid nodules are either non-neoplastic or benign neoplasm. Thyroid lesions present a dependable analysis and is an incredible first line technique for investigating the nature of lesion.

Abstract: Introduction: Acute leukemia is the most common form of cancer in children, platelet transfusion is needed for the chemotherapy of acute lymphoblastic leukaemia children. Platelets are transfused for therapeutic and prophylactic purposes. Transfusion of stored platelet concentrates (up to 5 days) has been demonstrated to be as effective as transfusion of fresh platelet concentrates (upto 24 hours). Platelet refractory cases were also observed in this study that was detected by Corrected Count Increment (CCI) and Percent Platelet Recovery (PPI) at 1hour and 24 hours. Aim of the study: The aim of this study was to observe the platelet refractory cases after transfusion of fresh and stored platelet in acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) in a tertiary care hospital, Dhaka. Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted in the Department of Clinical Pathology, Paediatric Haematolo- Oncology and transfusion Medicine BSMMU, Department of Haematology and Paediatric Haemato-Oncology in Dhaka Medical College Hospital from March 2010 to February 2011 where 81 children diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukaemia were taken as the study population. Non probability purposive sampling was used by fulfilling the inclusion criteria. Ethical consideration was taken by the BSMMU ethical review committee. A data sheet with two parts (Part A and Part B) was designed with a view to collect data from the patients to be enrolled in the study. Data were analyzed using the SPSS version 25.0. Results: Out of 81 in 47 children with acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL), fresh platelet concentrates (FPC) (upto 24 hours) or day-0 platelets were transfused. In 34 children, stored platelet concentrates (SPC) (days 1–5) were transfused. In 27 cases, platelet concentrates were transfused both fresh and stored. In FPC and SPC, the corrected count increment at one hour (CCI 1h) was 20.5×109/L and 18.9×109/L respectively. FPC and SPC values for the mean corrected count increment at 24 hours (CCI 24h) were 15.5×109/L and 13.8×109/L respectively. Platelet refractory cases were 15(18.5%) out of 81 cases transfused. Platelet refractory cases were 7(15%) out of 47 cases transfused with FPC and 8(23%) out of 34 cases transfused with stored platelet concentrate (SPC). There were no significant differences (P
