A survey has been conducted to find the determinants of trust, security, privacy and risk factors in adoption of online banking services around Muscat City. A pilot study was conducted to verify the reliability and validity of the questions included in the research instrument, to ensure the scale development of the questions and to ensure internal consistency. PLS-SEM v 3.0 has been used to evaluate the conceptual model and to test the speculated hypothesis on the determinants of trust, security, privacy and risk factors in adoption of online banking services. The study concluded that customer’s trust factors and risk factors while using online banking services have significant positive relationship in adoption of online banking services and at the same time privacy factors and security factors have insignificant relationship with weak and negative impact in adoption of online banking services.

Background Although extravasation (EV) is an established complication of parenteral chemotherapy, it often goes under-documented and underestimated. The incidence and severity of extravasation can be influenced by patient, drug or procedure related factors. An understanding of the risk factors and predictors promotes precaution during chemotherapy. Methods A prospective study was conducted for one year in patients satisfying study criteria. Patient information such as demographics, history, disease, treatment regimen and EV related information was documented. Severity of EV was established using CTCAE 4.3. The captured data was subjected to appropriate statistical analysis using SPSS ver. 20. Results Amongst the 217 patients reviewed 46(21.20%) experienced EV [Grade 2(67.39%) and Grade 3(32.61%)]. Cluster statistics revealed age, gender and ambulation to be the most important predictors. Ambulation caused an 8 fold increase in the risk of EV (p Conclusions Patient, drug and procedure related risk factors influence the incidence of chemotherapy induced EV injury. In the studied population, age, gender, ambulation and co-morbidities were established as predictors of extravasation. The study was conducted to ascertain the actual status of gastro-intestinal parasites in pigs maintained under different rearing systems in Shimoga region, Karnataka state. A total of 150 Pigs fecal samples were examined, which includes 50 from organized piggery farm, Veterinary College Shimoga, 50 from private piggery farm of Shimoga and 50 from free range desi pigs of Shimoga city. The fecal samples were processed and examined by direct and sedimentation method. Out of 50 fecal samples examined from organized piggery farm, 19 were found positive for different parasitic eggs, Out of 50 fecal samples screened form private farm, 28 harbored different parasites, whereas from 50 free range desi pigs fecal samples examined, all showed one and other parasitic eggs/ova. The percent prevalence of parasitic infection is more in free range desi pigs compared to Yorkshire breeds maintained under stall fed condition.

Background Evaluation of the risk scoring algorithm to identify patient based risk factors associated with increased risk for CINV. Methods Patients who were receiving first chemotherapy regime at our center were included in the study after due informed consenting and Ethics committee approval. Patients were followed for 5-days after chemotherapy by either in person questioning or telephone call. All patients received standard anti-emetic prophylaxis at discretion of treating physician. Before each cycle of chemotherapy, acute and delayed CINV scoring systems were used to stratify patients into low- and high-risk groups. Logistic regression modelling was then applied to compare the risk for grade 2 or greater CINV between patients considered to be at high and at low risk. The external validity of each system was also assessed using an area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUROC) analysis. Results CINV outcomes data was collected from 127 patients at 1st cycle of chemotherapy. The incidence of acute and delayed CINV was 42.7% and 76.4% respectively. Major predictors for CINV included younger patient age, platinum- or anthracycline based chemotherapy, low alcohol consumption, earlier cycles of chemotherapy, previous history of morning sickness, and prior emetic episodes after chemotherapy. The acute and delayed scoring systems both had good predictive accuracy when applied to the external validation sample (acute— AUROC: 0.70; 95% confidence interval: 0.60 to 0.80; delayed—AUROC: 0.70; 95% confidence interval: 0.61 to 0.80). Patients identified by the scoring systems to be at high risk were 1.3 (p = 0.001) and 2.3 (p = 0.001) times more likely to develop grade 2 or greater acute and delayed CINV. Conclusions Our study demonstrates current Patient risk scoring systems are able to accurately identify patients at high risk for delayed CINV and can be used to augment current antiemetic regimes. Background Extravasation is an important Adverse Event in chemotherapy, which is evaluated using CTCAE (Common Terminology Criteria for Adverse Events) grading scale. This study focuses on predicting risk factors and comparing CTCAE v3.0 and 4.3 in assessing chemotherapy-induced extravasation. Methods An observational study was conducted in medical oncology wards of a tertiary care hospital among adult patients receiving parenteral chemotherapy. European society of medical oncology – European oncology nursing society (ESMO-EONS) guidelines was used to classify chemotherapeutic agents. Significant risk factors were determined using binary logistic analysis. Spearman’s rank correlation coefficient and Wilcoxon’s sign rank test was applied to evaluate the difference between CTCAE v3.0 and v4.3. Results A total of 46 patients were enrolled in the study. According to CTCAE v4.3, amongst the 46 patients who experienced extravasation 30 presented with Grade II and the rest 16 with Grade III severity. Patients aged above 60 years showed significance (OR: 2.236, p = 0.007), and females were prone to severe extravasation injury (OR: 2.713, p = 0.010). Ambulation was found to be a major risk factor (OR: 4.66, p = 0.001). Patients with comorbidities had higher chances of getting severe extravasation (OR: 3.009, p = 0.029) and irritants were found to be predominant in worsening it (OR: 2.24, p = 0.007). The Spearman’s rank correlation coefficient established a good association in EV grades between both versions of CTCAE (rho=0.877, p = 0.000). Wilcoxon’s Rank test revealed a significant difference between the two. (p = 0.0003). Conclusions The severity of EV depends on early identification of symptoms, patient related factors and nature of drug. This information is pivotal to work towards a scenario of better-prevented and managed events of EV. Objectives: In data mining, finding frequent item set from voluminous databases is an important role. It is a challenging task to find item sets frequently arise in the exponential growth of the databases. The number of scans to find the frequent item set is assessed as more and created redundancy. Methods/Statistical analysis: In this research work, a new technique is applied to improve the reduction in number of scans and minimize the redundancy. An algorithm is developed to mine the frequent item set using clustering techniques. A cluster table of frequent item set is created with minimal number of scanning. Findings: The support count is fixed to eliminate the duplicates which minimize the redundancy. This algorithm is appreciable, because the intermediate data in the dataset can be reused. The efficiency of algorithm can be identified by seeing the experimental results that is significantly performed well than the exiting algorithms. Applications/Improvements: In future, other algorithms are applied for the same data set to test its effectiveness in order to minimize the redundancy which avoids wastage of the memory space.

A study was conducted to ascertain the incidence of gastrointestinal parasites in horses of Shimoga region, to generate the data regarding status of parasitic infections of equines in Karnataka state due to paucity of information. A total of 100 fresh fecal samples of equines were collected and examined by direct and sedimentation method for the detection of parasitic egg/ova. Among 100 samples examined, 84 (84.0 %) were found positive for various gastrointestinal helminths. Out of 84 positive cases, 44 (52.38 %) were found positive for Strongylus spp. eggs, 09 (10.71 %) showed Parascaris equorum eggs, 06 (7.14 %) had Gastrodiscus spp. eggs, 04 (4.76 %) harbored Oxyuris equi and the remaining 21 (25.0 %) had a mixed infection of Strongylus spp., Strongyloides spp. and Gastrodiscus spp.

The study was undertaken to know the current status of prevalence of gastrointestinal parasites of cattle and buffaloes in Bangalore, Karnataka. An overall prevalence of gastrointestinal parasites among cattle (75.2 %) and buffalos (76.8 %) was determined by coprological examination. The gastrointestinal parasites detected in cattle and buffalo were Strongyle (39.8 and 29.1 %), followed by Amphistome (24.4 and 23.1 %), Moniezia spp. (5.3 and 5.9 %), Fasciola spp. (4.1 and 15.6 %), Trichuris spp. (1.4 and 2.9 %), Buxtonella spp. (36.6 and 37.3 %) and Eimeria spp. (26.7 and 29.8 %) respectively. The percentage prevalence of mixed helminth and protozoan infections was 20.2 and 26.1 % in cattle and buffaloes, respectively.

A study was carried out to ascertain the status of ecto-parasites infesting dogs of Shimoga region. A total of 120 dogs with the history of skin problems presented to the local hospitals and local pet clinics of Shimoga region were screened for different ecto-parasites. The ticks, fleas and lice were collected, processed and identified. The skin scrapings were also collected from the affected dogs and processed for identification of mites. Out of 120 dogs examined, 59 (49.1 %) had harboured ecto-parasites. Among 59 infested pet dogs, 22 (37.28 %) positive for Fleas, 18 (30.5 %) for ticks, 09 (15.2 %) for Lice, 07 (11.8 %) for Sarcoptic mange and 03 (5.0 %) were for Demodectic mange conditions. The two species of fleas were identified as Ctenocephalides canis 13 (59 %) and Ctenocephalides felis 9 (41 %). The ticks and lice species were identified as Riphicephalus sanguineus and Trichodectus canis respectively. The mite species infecting dogs were identified as Sarcoptes scabeii and Demodex canis based on the morphological character. The Prevalence of ectoparasites was more in stray and adults dogs compared to pet dogs and puppies respectively.

Despite three decades of extensive studies on human apolipoprotein A-I (apoA-I), the major protein component in high-density lipoproteins, the molecular basis for its antiatherogenic function is elusive, in part because of lack of a structure of the full-length protein. We describe here the crystal structure of lipid-free apoA-I at 2.4 Å. The structure shows that apoA-I is comprised of an N-terminal four-helix bundle and two C-terminal helices. The N-terminal domain plays a prominent role in maintaining its lipid-free conformation, indicating that mutants with truncations in this region form inadequate models for explaining functional properties of apoA-I. A model for transformation of the lipid-free conformation to the high-density lipoprotein-bound form follows from an analysis of solvent-accessible hydrophobic patches on the surface of the structure and their proximity to the hydrophobic core of the four-helix bundle. The crystal structure of human apoA-I displays a hitherto-unobserved array of positively and negatively charged areas on the surface. Positioning of the charged surface patches relative to hydrophobic regions near the C terminus of the protein offers insights into its interaction with cell-surface components of the reverse cholesterol transport pathway and antiatherogenic properties of this protein. This structure provides a much-needed structural template for exploration of molecular mechanisms by which human apoA-I ameliorates atherosclerosis and inflammatory diseases.

The enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) was evaluated for the diagnosis of Fasciola gigantica infection in cattle and buffaloes. The excretory-secretory (E-S Ag) antigen of F. gigantica adult flukes obtained after invitro incubation was used as an antigen. The test was conducted with 276 sera collected from cattle and buffaloes which included 22 sera each from naturally infected cattle and buffaloes (known positive serum) and with similar number of samples with healthy cattle and buffaloes (known negative serum). The positive results were observed in 18 and 19 of the sera from naturally infected cattle and buffaloes with sensitivity of 81.8 and 86.3 % respectively. Out of 188 serum samples which were found negative on faecal examination 32 (34 %) sera of cattle and 40 (42.5 %) sera of buffaloes were found positive by ELISA respectively. The sensitivity of the test was found to be 91.6 and 95.6 % in cattle and buffaloes respectively.

The prevalence of fasciolosis was evaluated in bovines based on coprological examination and postmortem liver examination of slaughtered cattle and buffaloes. The faecal examination of 130 cattle and 135 buffaloes revealed a prevalence of 9.9 % in cattle and 13.3 % in buffaloes respectively. The examination of livers from cattle and buffaloes (155 each) slaughtered at the KMPMCL abattoir revealed the prevalence of fasciolosis was 20.6 % in cattle and 22.5 % in buffaloes. The results were statistically significant in faecal examination and not significant in liver examination from cattle and buffaloes respectively.

A study was conducted to record the prevalence of Haemoprotozoan infections in bovines of Shimoga region for a period of 1 year from April 2012 to March 2013. A total of 300 blood samples were examined for the presence of haemoprotozoan parasites, of which 215 from cattle and 85 from buffaloes were examined by Giemsa staining technique. Out of 300 blood samples examined, 130 (43.3 %) were found positive for Haemoprotozoan infections. Out of 215 cattle blood samples examined, 62 (28.8 %) were positive for Theileria annulata, 27 (12.5 %) were harbored Babesia bigemina, 15 (6.9 %) were found positive for Trypanosoma evansi and 06 (2.7 %) samples showed Anaplasma marginale. Among 85 buffalo samples examined, 11 (12.9 %) were showed Theileria spp, 04 (4.7 %) found positive for B. bigemina, 03 (3.5 %) were found positive for T. evansi and 02 (2.3 %) were positive for A. marginale. Among haemoprotozoan parasites, the highest prevalence was observed with T. annulata followed by B. bigemina and T. evansi infection. The lowest prevalence was observed with A. marginale infection.

Dielectric constant e, loss tan δ, a.c. conductivity Σ and dielectric breakdown strength of NaF-B2O3 glasses doped with certain transition metal ions (viz. Cu2+, VO2+, Ti4+ and Mn4+) are studied in the frequency range 102-107 Hz and in the temperature range 30–250°C. The values of e, tan δ, Σa.c. are found to be the highest for Cu2+ doped glasses and the lowest for Mn4+ doped glasses. Activation energy for a.c. conduction and the value of dielectric breakdown strength are found to be the lowest for Cu2+ doped glasses and the highest for Mn4+ doped glasses. With the help of infrared spectra, increase in the values of e and tan δ of these glasses with frequency and temperature are identified with space charge polarization. An attempt has been made to explain a.c. conduction phenomenon on the basis of quantum mechanical tunneling model (QMT)/carrier barrier hopping model.

Thermus aquaticus DNA polymerase I consists of the polymerase, the structure-specific nuclease and the vestigial editing nuclease domains. Three-dimensional structures of the native enzyme and its complex with DNA have already been reported. The structure of a complex with an inhibitory antibody has also been determined. The structure of the native enzyme in a different crystal form determined at 2.6 Å is reported here. Optimized anomalous diffraction measurements made at the holmium L III edge were valuable in validating solutions obtained through molecular replacement. The structure of the polymerase domain is similar to those reported previously, while the relative orientation of the structure-specific nuclease domain is significantly different from those of the native enzyme and the DNA complex; it is, however, identical to that observed in the structure of the Fab complex. In the structures of the native enzyme and of the DNA complex reported previously, the active site of the structure-specific nuclease domain is too far from that of the polymerase domain, making it difficult to propose a structural model for the in vivo primer-excision and nick-translation activities of the enzyme. In the present structure, the two active sites are considerably closer. Taken together, the reported structure of the native enzyme, that of the Fab complex and the present structure imply that the different orientation of the structure-specific nuclease domain is probably a consequence of intrinsically high relative mobility between these two domains in this enzyme.

TP7, an antibody against Thermus aquaticus DNA polymerase I (TaqP), is used as a thermolabile switch in 'hot start' variations of PCR to minimize non-specific amplification events. Earlier studies have established that TP7 binds to the polymerase domain of TaqP, competes with primer template complex for binding and is a potent inhibitor of the polymerase activity of TaqP. We report crystallographic determination of the structure of an Fab fragment of TP7 and computational docking of the structure with the known three-dimensional structure of the enzyme. Our observations strongly suggest that the origin of inhibitory ability of TP7 is its binding to enzyme residues involved in DNA binding and polymerization mechanism. Although criteria unbiased by extant biochemical data have been used in identification of a putative solution, the resulting complex offers an eminently plausible structural explanation of biochemical observations. The results presented are of general significance for interpretation of docking experiments and in design of small molecular inhibitors of TaqP, that are not structurally similar to substrates, for use in PCR. Structural and functional similarities noted among DNA polymerases, and the fact that several DNA polymerases are pharmacological targets, make discovery of non-substrate based inhibitors of additional importance.

Crystallization and preliminary characterization of the essential dengue virus NS3 serine protease complexed with a Bowman–Birk-type inhibitor from mung beans are reported. As the structure proved resistant to solution by molecular replacement and multiple isomorphous replacement methods, multi-wavelength anomalous diffraction data at the L III edge of a holmium derivative have been measured. Promising Bijvoet and dispersive signals which are largely consistent with expected values have been extracted from the data. The structure, when determined, will provide a structural basis for the design, synthesis and evaluation of inhibitors of the protease for chemotherapy of dengue infections.
