Este artigo aborda a participação democrática da população de Filadélfia - Bahia através do Conselho de Acompanhamento e Controle Social do Fundo de Manutenção e Desenvolvimento da Educação Básica e de Valorização dos Profissionais da Educação (CACS-FUNDEB) nas tomadas de decisões e fiscalização dos recursos do FUNDEB. Este trabalho tem como finalidade analisar a atuação do Conselho do FUNDEB em Filadélfia-BA. Estudar o referido tema é de fundamental importância para a sociedade na fiscalização das transferências e aplicações dos recursos financeiros do FUNDEB e visa provocar uma reflexão sobre os entraves na atuação do referido conselho, apresentando o resultado da pesquisa no Município de Filadélfia. Para o desenvolvimento desta pesquisa buscamos embasamento teórico em SALES (2014), SANTOS e AVRITZER (2005), LYRA (1999), LUCK (2000), entre outros. Para isso, realizou-se leitura e análise documental das leis de criação, decretos, e do regimento interno do conselho, bem como solicitação de informações através de questionários semiestruturados à Secretaria Municipal de Educação e a membros do referido conselho. Os resultados alcançados com essa pesquisa apontam para o fato da maioria dos membros não ter conhecimento da real função de um conselheiro do CACS-FUNDEB, além de participar apenas para atender convite da administração municipal.

It is a fact that the regions that cultivate the most maize crop do not have fully adequate technologies to measure productivity losses caused by irregularities in water availability. The objective of this study was to evaluate the physiological characteristics of maize hybrids tolerant (DKB 390) and sensitive (BRS 1030) to drought, at V5 growth stage and under water restriction, in order to understand the mechanisms involved in the induction of tolerance to drought by chitosan in contrasting maize genotypes. Plants were cultivated in pots at a greenhouse, and chitosan 100 ppm was applied by leaf spraying. The water restriction was imposed for 10 days and then leaf gaseous exchange and chlorophyll fluorescence were evaluated. The tolerant hybrid (DKB 390) showed higher photosynthesis, stomatal conductance, carboxylation efficiency, electron transport rate, and non-photochemical quenching when chitosan was used. Plants from tolerant genotype treated with chitosan were more tolerant to water stress because there were more responsive to the biopolymer. Resumo As regiões que cultivam milho como cultura principal ainda não possuem tecnologias adequadas para mensurar as perdas na produtividade decorrentes na disponibilidade irregular de água. O objetivo desse estudo foi avaliar as características fisiológicas de híbridos de milho tolerante (DKB 390) e sensível (BRS1030) à seca, no estádio de crescimento V5 e sob restrição hídrica, para compreender os mecanismos envolvidos na indução de tolerância à seca pela quitosana em genótipos contrastantes. As plantas foram cultivadas vasos na casa de vegetação e a quitosana 100 ppm foi aplicada por pulverização foliar. A restrição hídrica durou 10 dias e foram avaliadas as trocas gasosas e a fluorescência da clorofila. O híbrido tolerante (DKB 390) apresentou maior fotossíntese, condutância estomática, eficiência de carboxilação, taxa de transporte de elétrons e quenching não fotoquímico quando aplicada a quitosana. As plantas do genótipo tolerante tratadas com quitosana foram mais tolerantes ao déficit hídrico porque foram mais responsivas ao biopolímero.

The aim of this study was to evaluate luteolysis using three doses of PGF2α on Day 5 or Day 7 of the estrous cycle in nonlactating Nellore (Bos indicus) cows. Cows (n = 323) were assigned within date of estrus (Day 0 of estrous cycle) to receive 12.5, 25.0, or 50.0 mg of PGF2α on either Day 5 or Day 7 of the estrous cycle in a 3 × 2 factorial arrangement. Blood samples for progesterone (P4) concentrations were collected at 0, 24, 48, and 72 hours after PGF2α to assess luteolysis (L). Luteolysis was defined on the basis of P4 concentrations at 72 hours using either less than 0.5 ng/mL (L0.5) or less than 1.0 ng/mL (L1.0) as the cut off. This research aims to evaluate the efficiency of thermography as a tool for the detection of faults in low voltage electrical networks. For this, a thermovisor was used in several equipment, such as panels, transformers and capacitor banks, to locate possible thermal anomalies. Two analyzes were made: one qualitative and the other quantitative. The first is based on the investigation between an adjacent element and the suspicious element and a definition of criticality, in which actions are taken to correct failures. The quantitative analysis aims at improving a definition of criticality where possible, such as not identifying the thermal emissivity of the materials involved that are not identified by the electric currents of the circuits. In addition, for the cases studied, a criticality comparison was made between the two methods.

This study aimed to determine the effect of expected progeny difference (EPD) for age at first calving and average daily gain (ADG) on puberty in Nelore (Bos taurus indicus) heifers. A total of 58 weaned heifers (initial BW=174±6 kg; age=9±1 months) were allocated into 28 feedlot pens. Heifers were born from four sires, of which two had low EPD for age at first calving (L; n=33) and two had high EPD for age at first calving (H; n=25). Then, heifers of each EPD were randomly assigned to high ADG (HG; 0.7 kg) or low ADG (LG; 0.3 kg), resulting in four treatments: heifers from L sires were submitted to either HG (LHG; n=17) or LG (LLG; n=16), and heifers from H sires were submitted to either HG (HHG; n=12), or LG (HLG; n=13). The aim of this study was to evaluate the reproductive performance of 411 Nellore cows (198 nulliparous, 80 primiparous, and 133 multiparous) submitted to the 5dCO-Synch + P4 or 7dEB + P4 systems. The 5dCO-Synch + P4 system consisted of insertion of an intravaginal progesterone (P4) insert and 100 μg of GnRH (intramuscularly [i.m.]) on Day 0. On Day 5, the P4 insert was removed, and two doses of 25 mg of PGF2α (i.m.) were administered 6 hours apart. Cows not detected in estrus until 55 hours after insert removal received 100 μg of GnRH i.m. 17 hours later (i.e., 72 hours after P4 removal). The 7dEB + P4 system consisted of insertion of a P4 insert and 2 mg of estradiol benzoate (i.m.) on Day 0. The oviposition behaviour and host selection by females of the pine processionary moth, Thaumetopoea pityocampa, was studied under two conditions: in a field insectary and in a pine stand. An oviposition choice test was conducted in an insectary cage, using artificial Christmas trees (ACTs) baited with extracts from four pine species: Pinus pinea, Pinus pinaster, Pinus halepensis and Pinus brutia, plus a control. Females oviposited significantly more egg batches on the ACT baited with a P. brutia extract, while no oviposition occurred on the control ACT. In a large P. pinea stand, two groups of randomly selected trees were marked and baited respectively with an extract of P. brutia, which was the preferred species under insectary conditions and with a solvent, to act as control. Results showed that oviposition in the field followed an aggregated pattern, fitting a negative binomial distribution and that trees baited with P. brutia extracts, received a significantly larger number of egg-batches than control trees. In parallel, the volatiles emitted by all pine extracts tested where analysed by gas chromatography and mass spectrometry (GC-MS), coupled to a time-of-flight (TOF) mass analyser after solid phase microextraction (SPME), resulting in the identification of 26 compounds. Comparative chromatograms showed qualitative differences among the pine species used, some compounds being present in one of them only. Findings demonstrate for the first time that: (i) T. pityocampa females discriminate among bouquets extracted from different host pine species and exhibit oviposition preferences; and (ii) olfactory cues play an important role in mediating the selection process.

A new polyester sesquiterpene (4-hydroxy-1,2,6,15-tetraacetyl-9-benzoylagarofuran), together with known friedelane triterpenes (friedelin, β-friedelinol and 28-hydroxyfriedelin), was isolated from the leaves of Austroplenckia populnea. The complete amino acid sequence for a 3Fe:3S ferredoxin from the "archaebacterium" Methanosarcina barkeri (DSM 800) was determined by repetitive Edman degradation on the whole protein and peptides derived from trypsin, thermolysin, and Staphylococcus aureus protease digestion. The protein has 59 residues of which 8 are cysteines. The latter have the same spacing and distribution as found for the clostridial-type 2 x 4Fe:4S ferredoxins. Also, the sequence had evidence of internal homology which is indicative of gene duplication prior to the divergence of the archaebacteria and the eubacteria. This is the first sequence to be reported for a methanogen ferredoxin and only the fourth for a 3Fe:3S ferredoxin from any source.

When Methanosarcina barkeri is grown on methanol as the sole carbon source, a B12-containing protein is synthesized by this organism. This B12 protein contains bound aquocobalamin, and when this cofactor is reduced and methylated with [14C]methyl iodide, the resultant [14C]methyl B12 protein is extremely active in the biosynthesis of 14C-labeled methane. These findings indicate that a B12-dependent system is operative in the biological formation of methane in addition to other systems that are B12-independent.

Rubredoxins are present in aerobe as well as in anaerobe organisms and are characterized by the absence of labile sulphur and the presence of 1 iron atom linked in a tetrahedral arrangement to the sulphur cysteine residues. Rubredoxins from sulphate reducing bacteria (Desulfovibrio sp.) and sulphur reducing bacteria (Desulfuromonas acetoxidans) have been isolated [l--S]. Here we report the oxidation-reduction properties of 3 rubredoxins isolated from Desulfovibrio gigas (NCIB 9332) Desulfovibrio salexigens (strain British Guiana 8403) [6] and Desulfuromonas acefoxidans (strain 5071). Potentiometric titrations in the presence of oxidation-reduction mediators, followed by EPR measurements were used to determine the mid-point reduction potentials of the active centres.
