Abstract

Purpose. According to the SONATRACH groups requirements, a hazard study should be carried out conforming to Law 45/DG in order to manage risk situations better and to ensure maximum operational safety. Methodology. The work presents modeling of accident scenarios through the ALOHA software. The identification and characterization of potential hazards of the facilities are carried out by the XRISK software while using the preliminary risk analysis method (PRA) and the bow tie method (in a horizontal plane). Finding. An assessment of the socio-economic impact in the event of an accident in the hydrocarbon industry is given as well as recommendations to avoid unforeseen consequences. Originality. For the first time at SONATRACH, the LOPA software has been used to model accident scenarios in the hydrocarbon industry. The latter refers to high-risk industries where every activity, whether industrial or commercial, is subject to incidents or serious situations that could seriously disrupt the operation of the organization, or even damage or destroy it. Practical value. Sensitive elements have been identified, which respectively include the station staff, the DSP agents on duty (digital signal processing), the subcontractors, i.e. a permanent population of 30 people on average. The occurrence of the potential major accidents identified in the risk analysis would cause the gas compression to stop at Rhourde Nouss station. Thus, there is a pressure drop at the level of the gas pipelines, which reduces the gas flow significantly, while its extent and duration will depend on the restarting of the station. Furthermore, the effects of damage to the equipment concerned could result in a significant cost for their replacement within a reasonable time.

Abstract

Introduction GST non-functional genotypes can lead to the accumulation of toxic intermediates, resulting in liver damage and increasing susceptibility to ATDH. Aim To investigate the impact of GST Mu (GSTM1), GST Theta (GSTT1) null genotypes, and GST Pi (GSTP1; adenosine (A) > guanine (G), rs1695) variant allele on the development of ATDH in Tunisian patients treated with anti-tuberculosis therapy. Methods This was a case-control study including patients receiving anti-tuberculosis regimen. Cases (n = 23) were tuberculosis patients presenting ATDH during two months of anti-tuberculosis drug therapy. Controls (n = 30) were patients treated for tuberculosis, but presenting no ATDH. Genotyping was performed using a polymerase chain reaction-restriction fragment length polymorphism. Results No statistically significant association was observed between GSTM1 and GSTT1 homozygous null genotypes, and the risk of ATDH. A statistically significant association between GSTM1 and GSTT1 double null genotypes, and the risk of ATDH was found (p = 0.033) between cases and controls. For GSTP1, the distribution of GG homozygous mutant genotype was significantly associated with ATDH compared with the wild and the transition A to G (AA + AG) genotypes. Conclusion Double deletion of GSTM1 and GSTT1 may predispose to ATDH in a Tunisian population. Moreover, GSTP1 rs1695 (A > G) genotyping can predict susceptibility to developing ATDH.

Abstract

Rosmarinus officinalis L. is a widespread aromatic plant commonly consumed as a tea in traditional cuisine and in folk medicine to treat various illnesses due to its therapeutic properties. To the best of our knowledge, there are no reports on the bioavailability and metabolism of R. officinalis tea polyphenols in humans. This study was aimed at assessing the bioavailability and nutrikinetics of R. officinalis phenolic compounds in healthy humans for the first time. Forty-eight compounds were identified in plasma and urine. Few un-metabolized compounds were detected since rosemary polyphenols were extensively metabolized into phase II conjugates, with rapid appearance and clearance in plasma, pointing to small intestinal absorption. Phase II derivatives of caffeic acid showed kinetics compatible with both intestinal and colonic hydrolysis of rosmarinic acid yielding free caffeic and 3,4-dihydroxyphenyl-lactic acids, which were absorbed and metabolized into phase II derivatives. These metabolites, along with reduced forms of caffeic acid and their phase II metabolites, and those of hydroxyphenylpropionic, hydroxylphenylacetic, benzoic and hippuric acids, highlight the importance of colonic absorption. Total urinary excretion of the phenols added up to 235 µmol, corresponding to 22.3% of the ingested amount (1055 µM). In conclusion, rosemary tea polyphenols are partially bioavailable and extensively metabolized, mainly by the colonic microbiota., We acknowledge financial support received from the Tunisian Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, and from the Spanish Ministry of Economy, Industry and Competitivity (project AGL2015-69986-R).

Abstract

Introduction Rosemary (Rosmarinus officinalis L.) is an aromatic plant common in Tunisia and it is widely consumed as a tea in traditional cuisine and in folk medicine to treat various illnesses. Currently, most research efforts have been focused on rosemary essential oil, alcoholic and aqueous extracts, however, little is reported on rosemary infusion composition. Objective To investigate compounds present in rosemary tea obtained from Rosmarinus officinalis L. collected in a sub-humid area of Tunisia in order to assess whether the traditional rosemary tea preparation method could be considered as a reference method for rosemary's compounds extraction. Methodology Qualitative characterisation of Rosmarinus officinalis tea obtained after rosemary infusion in boiled water was determined by high performance liquid chromatography coupled with electrospray ionisation quadrupole time-of-flight mass spectrometry (HPLC-ESI-QTOF-MS). Quantitative analysis relies on high performance liquid chromatography with diode array detector (HPLC-DAD). Results Forty-nine compounds belonging to six families, namely flavonoids, phenolic acids, phenolic terpenes, jasmonate, phenolic glycosides, and lignans were identified. To the best of the authors' knowledge eucommin A is characterised for the first time in rosemary. Rosmarinic acid (158.13 μg/g dried rosemary) was the main compound followed then by feruloylnepitrin (100.87 μg/g) and luteolin-3'-O-(2″-O-acetyl)-β-d-glucuronide (44.04 μg/g). Among quantified compounds, luteolin-7-O-rutinoside was the compound with the lowest concentration. Conclusion The infusion method allows several polyphenols present in rosemary tea to be extracted, therefore it could be a reference method for rosemary's compounds extraction. Moreover, traditional Tunisian Rosmarinus officinalis tea consumption is of interest for its rich phenolic content. Copyright © 2017 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.

Abstract

The study of blast effect on bench stability is indispensable, because the overall stability of the quarry’s slope is directly linked to it. For this purpose, a study is conducted in a limestone quarry. Before the stability analysis, a fragmentation evaluation is carried out by two methods, by the Kuz-Ram model and the Digital Image analysis method using the WipFrag program, this part of the work aims to establish a more efficient blast design that assures a better fragmentation and a higher stability for the quarry’s structure. Afterwards, a numerical stability analysis approach is adopted, by employing the Finite Element Method (FEM) through the Phase2 software. A 2D numerical model of the quarry’s profile is constructed, on which simulations are carried out for two cases: 1-static conditions; 2-Dynamic conditions using the proposed blast design. This analysis goals are to define the possible deformation that the blasting process could engender to the benches and its effect on bench’s stability as an individual case and on the overall stability of the slope in general.

Abstract

By adopting the green mining concept, the mining industry seeks to respond to the current societal objective of supplying the mineral raw materials necessary for economic development while minimising the ecological footprint. To accomplish environmental recovery simultaneously with mineral exploitation, as well as to take advantage of mine waste, this study proposes a new solution that includes the construction of a tunnel to access the mining area. The concept, developed with topographical and geological data, was tested for the Bled El Hadba phosphate deposit. The extraction volumes were estimated by considering all the technical and legal aspects of the exploitation. The results showed that the best location for the tunnel is on the non-mineralised bottom of the mine and placed after ore removal. The tunnel is then progressively covered by mine tailings as it is extended. This concept is applicable to sub-horizontal ore deposits. We show that the solution is feasible and allows full site recovery at the end of the open-pit mining phase.

Abstract

An event log is the key element of all change mining and process mining approaches. Those approaches bridge the gap between conventional business process management and data analysis techniques such as machine learning and data mining. In this day, companies and business organizations usually use a family of business processes that may face different variations and adjustments. Still, those processes are widely identical, with a slight difference in specific points. Consequently, performing a process mining or a change mining for each process will be a redundant task. The use of a configurable process model is a practical solution for redundancy problem. Thus, the process mining areas such as discovering verifying the conformity of a business process and enhancing processes, are reduced considerably. However, the configurable process models and the variability concept are rarely introduced in change mining approaches. The existing methods that analyse and manage event logs do not then consider the variability issue. Therefore, the fact of using a collection of event log becomes a challenging task. Our proposed approach is to merge and filter a collection of event logs from the same family with respect to variability. Our goal is to enhance change mining from a collection of event logs and detect changes in variable fragments of the obtained event log.

The Lafarge -M‘sila group’s cement plant (Algeria) is supplied by the Chouf Amar limestone quarry, which allows great quarrying at the national level with annual productions of 4.2 mt / year, since several sliding in previous years have disrupted the exploitation and production of the quarry, and in the strategy of the Lafarge group increased its production up to 5mt / year in the medium term 2020-2030; a stability study is necessary to ensure production under the right conditions, the aim of our work is to study Chouf Amar stability and identify the important causes of the landslides that have influenced the site in question. We start with an empirical approach through a geomechanical characterization of the massif was put in place to highlight the instability at the level of the various rock formations. then, a stability analysis was carried out using two different approaches: the analytical approach using the limit equilibrium method (Slide 6) and the numerical approach using two methods: the finite element method (Phase 2 ) and the finite difference method (Flac) in the static and dynamic case considering the state of dry and wet marls. The results show an optimal state of stability on the scale of the full profile north flank of the quarry and bad stability on the scale of the bench’s of the different levels and the main facies of the potential slide is that of the marls.

Abstract

Plunge milling is an interesting production mean for machining deep workpieces. It is identified as a process potentially able to afford significant gains in productivity during the roughing phases, especially in the case of workpieces made of hard materials. Within this paper, a study of cutting forces in plunge milling of titanium alloy Ti-6Al-4V is conducted. Several types of inserts provided by manufacturing tools suppliers with various cutting angles, type of chip breaker and nose radius, are exploited along with different cutting parameters. The results show the influence of the geometrical parameters and cutting parameters on the cutting forces, and give various information to establish next the optimal trajectories of the tool during plunge milling operations on titanium alloys, according to the type of workpieces.

Abstract

Method room and pillar sizes are key factors for safe mining and their recovery in open-stop mining. This method is advantageous due to its simplicity and requirement of little information to be used. It is probably the most representative method among the total load approach methods although it also remains a safe design method. Using a finite element software (PLAXIS 3D), analyses were carried out with an elasto-plastic model and comparisons were made with methods based on the total load approach. The results were presented as the optimization for improving the ore recovery rate while maintaining a safe working environment.

Abstract

The results of analyses performed and aimed to the investigation of the stability of a rock slope in open pit mine in Tebessa (East Algeria). Processes of sliding, toppling and rolling of large blocks, affect this slope. Sloped bench faces that compose the overall slope in the studied case in this paper are evaluated from the stability prospective by applying a variety of stability analysis methods. The adopted approach is based on laboratory tests on understudied samples to designate the mechanical parameters and numerical modeling by implementing the finite element method. The latter, a vital tool to the quantitative determination of deformation mechanisms in large slope instabilities, is used to unravel the uncertainty of mechanical homogeneity properties of the involved materials at the level of discrete meshes in numerical computations that type of application proposes a procedural combination of an assortment of calculation stability methods through three steps. The first step is to determine the mechanical parameters of Kef-Essnoun rock mass by using slope mass rating (SMR) classification scheme, developed by Romana, to depict the strength of an individual rock slope. This system is based on the rock mass rating (RMR) geo-mechanical classification system of rocks, developed by Bieniawski, who refurbished that system with quantitative guidelines to get the rate of influence of adverse joint orientations. The second step is to uses the abacus method to estimate the stability of open-pit mines. The last step is to use a numerical modeling by applying Plaxis 8.2 calculation code. The analyses indicate that the slip problem is the presence of fragile phosphate-marl interfaces at the base of the phosphate layer.

Abstract

The objective of our work is the study of the influence of the dynamic load due to the use of the explosive in the stability of the slope of an open pit mine, for this purpose we used the method of limit equilibrium to calculate the value of the safety factor through the geotechnical software SLIDE. On the one hand the calculation was carried out under static loading and on the other hand the dynamic loading is taken into account, which allowed us to conclude that the dynamic load influences the safety coefficient. Finally, a proposal to stabilize the slope at through a reprofiling of the bench is presented.

Abstract

Summary Glutathione-S-transferases enzymes are involved in the detoxification of several endogenous and exogenous substances. In this present study, we evaluated the effects of two glutathione-S-transferase polymorphisms, (GSTM1 and GSTT1) on epilepsy risk susceptibility in a Tunisian population. These polymorphisms were analyzed in 229 healthy subjects and 98 patients with epilepsy, using a polymerase chain reaction (PCR). Odds ratio (ORs) was used for analyzing results. The study results demonstrated that individuals with the GSTM1 null genotype were at an increased risk of developing epilepsy [OR = 3.80, 95% confidence interval (CI) (2.15–4.78)], whereas no significant effects were observed between individuals with GSTT1 null genotype and epilepsy risk [OR = 1.15, 95% CI (0.62–2.12)]. These genotyping finding revealed that the absence of GSTM1 activity could be contributor factor for the development of epilepsy disease.

Abstract

Background and Objectives: Following the initial management, some patients with differentiated thyroid cancer (DTC) develop a state of high thyroglobulin (Tg) and Negative Iodine Scintigraphy. The predisposing factors and outcome of this condition are unclear. In this study, our objectives were to analyze the characteristics of patients with high Tg level and negative Iodine scintigraphy and to determine the predictive factors for development of high Tg and negative scintigraphy. Patients and Methods: Retrospective study of 34 patients undergoing treatment for DTC, followed in the Nuclear Medicine department of the University Hospital—Sahloul Sousse between 1990 and 2006 and having a high Tg and negative Iodine scintigraphy. Fourteen patients had Tg between 2 and 10 ng/ml, 16 had Tg between 11 and 100 ng/ml and 4 patients had Tg more than 100 ng/ml. Results: There were 25 women and 9 men. The mean age was 51.65 years. In 94.1% of cases, the tumor was papillary carcinoma. Follicular tumors accounted for only 5.9%. The mean nodule size was3.26 cm. Capsular invasion was seen in 47.1% cases. The locoregional invasion was found in 35.3%. The lymph node extension was found in 84.8% of patients having lymph node surgery. Lymph node involvement was observed in 92.8% of patients with papillary cancer but it was found in 7.2% of patients with follicular cancers. Lymph node invasion was unilateral in 28.6% (N1a) and bilateral, contralateral or mediastinal in 71.4% (N1b). Initial level of Tg was as follows: 7 patients had Tg between 2 and 10 ng/ml, 14 patients had Tg between 11 and 100 ng/ml and 12 had Tg more than 100 ng/ml. The mean number of radioactive Iodine cure was 11.08 for patients with Tg more than 100 ng/ml with a significant difference (P = 0.001). Conclusion: Among epidemiological, pathological and clinical characteristics, lymph node invasion is the most frequent parameter found in patients with a DTC with high Tg level and negative Iodine scintigraphy.

Abstract

Xeroderma pigmentosum (XP) is an autosomal recessive disease characterized by abnormal sensitivity to sunlight which results in pigmentary changes, telangiectases, keratoses and eventually carcinomata. Additional neurological complications can be associated. The aim of our study was to analyze particularities of neurological abnormalities of Tunisian patients.We conducted a retrospective study in 62 patients suffering from XP included during the period 1992-2007. Patients were aged from 1 to 64 years (mean age: 17.6 +/- 11.4 years). Thirty patients were female and 32 were male. The patients had severe (n=16), variant (n=15) and moderate (n=31) XP.Neurological abnormalities were observed in 21 patients (33.9%). Mental retardation was observed in 15 of the 21 patients, pyramidal syndrome in five, cerebellar syndrome in two, extrapyramidal syndrome in two, microcephalia in two, choreoatetosis in three cases and a peripheral neuropathy in eight. No neurological disorder was observed in the XP-variant patients. Neurological abnormalities were more frequent in the patients with moderate XP (n=17, 64.5%) than with severe XP (p=0.051).This difference in a group of Tunisian patients confirms the heterogeneous nature of XP and is probably due to genetic heterogeneity.

Abstract

We report eight cases of brain tuberculoma. The clinical presentation was polymorphous: partial epilepsy (n=4), headache (n=3), hemiplegia (n=1), meningitis (n=1), cerebellar syndrome (n=1). Six patients also had pulmonary tuberculosis, one had tuberculosis of the genital organs, and one had HIV co-infection. The brain CT scan and MRI were highly contributive to diagnosis and follow-up. Despite good compliance with an anti-tuberculosis regimen for at least 14 months, the course was favorable in only six patients. Adjunction of corticosteroids led to radiological improvement. Assessment of cell immunity demonstrated a diminished immunomodulator ratio. Cerebral tuberculoma should be searched for in patients with unexplained neurological manifestations and several intracerebral lesions, particularly if pulmonary or visceral tuberculosis and/or immunodepression is part of the clinical picture.

Abstract

Patterns systems are becoming more and more numerous. They offer product patterns or process patterns of varied range and cover (analysis design or implementation patterns, and general, domain or enterprise patterns). New application development environments have been developed together with these pattern-oriented approaches. These tools address two kinds of actors: patterns engineers who specify patterns systems, and applications engineers who use these systems to specify information systems. Most of the existing development environments are made for applications engineers; they offer few functionalities allowing definition and organization of patterns systems. This paper presents AGAP, a development environment for defining and using patterns, which distinguishes pattern formalisms from patterns systems. Not only does AGAP address applications engineers, but it also allows patterns engineers to define patterns systems. The same formalisms or items of existing formalisms may either be used in order to facilitate the engineering of patterns systems or to increase the level of reuse.

Abstract

Extramedullary hematopoiesis is an unusual cause of spinal cord compression. We report the case of a 39-year-old man who presented symptoms of progressive dorsal spinal cord compression. Hemogramm showed erythrocytosis with microcytosis. Hemoglobin electrophoresis revealed heterozygous beta-thalassemia. Diagnosis of extramedullary hematopoiesis was based on magnetic resonance imaging findings. Radiological and therapeutic options in this rare condition are briefly discussed.

Abstract

Cortical cerebral dysgenesis is a heterogeneous disorder of cortical development and organization. It is well known by neuropathologists and is becoming more important in the clinical setting, mainly due to MRI. Our purpose is to report the MRI features of cortical dysplasia in 30 patients and to propose a simple classification with review of the literature.It is a retrospective study of the MRI features of 30 cases of cortical dysgenesis. All patients were evaluated by electroencephalography and brain MRI using T1 and T2 weighted, inversion recovery T1 weighted, FLAIR and MPR 3D sequences with multiplanar reformations.Twenty-nine patients were referred to the neurology department because of refractory epilepsy and one patient for mental retardation. Our patients were distributed in 4 groups: diffuse forms represented by agyria-pachygyria (4 cases), polymicrogyria (one case), and nodular heterotopias (5 cases), local bilateral forms represented by bilateral polymicrogyria (11 cases), unilateral forms represented by hemi-megalencephaly (one case), and focal cortical forms found in eight cases.Neuroblast migration disorders are better known, mainly due to high resolution MRI techniques that by the quality of multiplanar study and a better differentiation between gray and white matter, allow a more precise diagnosis.

Abstract

Clinical diabetic neuropathy in childhood is rare, but electrophysiological involvement of the peripheral nerve is more frequent. We assessed clinically and electrophysiologically the peripheral nervous system of 69 children and adolescents suffering from diabetes mellitus (DM). The mean age of the patients was 12.8 years and the mean age at onset of DM was 6.8 years with a mean disease duration of 6.3 years. Seven patients (10%) had clinical neuropathy of which ankle jerk reflex abolition was the most frequent sign. Twenty patients (29%) had a neurophysiological neuropathy prevalently affecting the lower limbs. Peripheral neuropathy was correlated with patient age, older age at onset, duration of DM, height and poor glycaemic control.

Abstract

We report a case of a 24 years old female who presented a glue sniffing neuropathy. Symptoms began with progressive weakness which initially involves the lower extremities. Neurological examination noted a decreased Achille reflexes. Nerve conduction studies showed a slowing nerve conduction velocities, a delayed F waves and distal latencies and diffuse nerve conduction blocks. The disease continued to worsen beyond two weeks after stopping intoxication with persistent evidence of ongoing demyelination. 40 days later we have noted an improvement in nerve conduction velocities and in conduction blocks, neuropathy is the most frequent glue sniffing complications, there is a clinic and electric improvement of the polyneuropathy after stopping intoxication.

Abstract

This paper presents a pattern-oriented approach to requirements engineering. It proposes an OrganizationDiagnosis pattern language which attempts to represent the fundamental elements intervening recurrently during requirements engineering elicitation. The idea is to propose components that enable to reuse the solutions for recurrent problems to which analysts are confronted in software engineering. Therefore, we propose to capitalize the now-how in requirements engineering by adopting a pattern based approach. The analyst can select components that he judges relevant for its application and adapt them to its context. Each pattern describes the problem, its context and the solution in a semi-formal language. Our approach identifies a set of patterns that can serve as nucleus to elaborate the system analysis. An illustration of the OrganizationDiagnosis pattern language is given through an application of order management.

Abstract

We describe clinical, electrophysiological and genetic features in 44 patients with Unverricht-Lündborg disease from 19 families living in North African countries (Tunisia, Algeria and Morocco). The mean age of patients was 25.3 years; mean age was at onset 11.3 years. The disease began more frequently with seizures (91 per cent) or myoclonus (80 p. 100) than ataxia (16 p. 100). Subsequently myoclonus and generalized seizures were present in all patients, cerebellar signs were absent in four cases. EEG findings included normal background activity (90 p. 100), spontaneous fast generalized spikes (93 p. 100) and photosensitivity (70 p. 100). Antiepileptic polytherapy (clonazepam and/or phenobarbital and/or valporic acid) was used in 84 per cent of cases. Antiepileptic drugs were more effective in controlling epileptic seizures (less than one seizure/month in 60 p. 100) than myocloni which persisted daily in 64 p. 100 of cases. Mean duration of the disease was 13.5 years. One patient died of status epilepticus. Consanguinity was noted in 17 families (first degree in 15 families). Linkage to chromosome 21q 22.3 was confirmed in 11 families. We noted an inter and intrafamilial variability of clinical signs and disease course.

Abstract

We report two cases of multiple sclerosis (MS) beginning in a mother and her daughter at 40 years of age. The diagnosis of MS was certain for both patients (Poser et al., 1983). Clinical features, evolution and response to treatment are comparable in both cases. Cerebral and medullar cord MRI and/or CT Scan showed characteristic lesions of demyelination on periventricular white matter, corpus callosum and brainstem.

Abstract

Paramedian midbrain infarcts limited to the oculomotor nerve fibers are uncommon. We studied 2 cases where the clinical syndrome included a third cranial nerve palsy and a contralateral cerebellar ataxia. The CT scan disclosed a paramedian midbrain tegmental infarct, so that it is possible to term our two cases Claude's syndrome. The oculomotor nerve fascicular palsies were complete in one case and limited to the extraocular muscles in the second case. The selective involvement of oculomotor function suggests intraaxial fascicular organisation of the third cranial nerve in the brainstem.

Abstract

The authors report four cases of spinal cord compression (three at cervical level and one at dorsal level) due to vertebral osteosclerosis secondary to chronic fluoride intoxication. Roentgenograms showed typical diffuse densification of vertebral bodies, calcifications of bony insertions of many ligaments, discs and interosseous membranes. Urinary fluoride was markedly increased in two cases. In the other two cases the bone biopsy was suggestive of skeletal fluorosis. Spinal computed tomography showed severe cord compression due to posterior osteophytes. Good improvement was observed after surgical decompression in one case. Fluorosis was described as a consequence of endemic exposure to high fluoride content in soil and natural ground water in North Africa. Fluorotic myelopathy was due to bone excrescences mainly affecting the spine.

Abstract

The diagnostic usefulness of artificial neural network (ANNs) is explored by means of an integrated system for medical diagnosis. The models were developed by using the unsupervized self organizing feature maps algorithm. Clinical data for training and testing the ANNs was collected from 71 subjects by applying examination protocols that were developed by an expert neurologist. The diagnostic yield obtained by the examined models was in the region of 86 to 93 %.

An integrated multidiscipline computer aided system for the diagnosis of neuromuscular disorders was developed. The system is able to process data based on the following diagnostic procedures: i. clinical assessment, ii. neurophysiological assessment, iii. muscle biopsy, iv. genetic assessment, and v. biochemical assessment. The self organising feature maps neural network algorithm was applied on clinical and laboratory data collected from 71 subjects. Diagnostic yield of models investigated varied from 76 to 90%.

IF DNA is stable it ought to be synthesized only in cells preparing to divide, or during polyploidization or repair. Our results, however, suggest that the DNA synthesized in differentiated cells has a metabolic turnover, related to cell ageing1. We call this DNA “metabolic”.
