The Fenna-Mathews-Olson (FMO) complex present in green sulfur bacteria is known to mediate the transfer of excitation energy between light-harvesting chlorosomes and membrane-embedded bacterial reaction centers. Due to the high efficiency of this transport process, it is an extensively studied pigment-protein complex system with the eventual aim of modeling and engineering similar dynamics in other systems and using it for real-time application. Some studies have attributed the enhancement of transport efficiency to wavelike behavior and non-Markovian quantum jumps resulting in long-lived and revival of quantum coherence, respectively. Since dynamics in these systems reside in the quantum-classical regime, quantum simulation of such dynamics will help in exploring the subtle role of quantum features in enhancing the transport efficiency, which has remained unsettled. Discrete simulation of the dynamics in the FMO complex can help in efficient engineering of the heat bath and controlling the environment with the system. In this work, using the discrete quantum jump model we show and quantify the presence of higher non-Markovian memory effects in specific site pairs when internal structures and environmental effects are in favor of faster transport. As a consequence, our study leans toward the connection between non-Markovianity in quantum jumps with the enhancement of transport efficiency.

The ability of quantum walks to evolve in a superposition of distinct quantum states has been used as a resource in quantum communication protocols. Under certain settings, the $k$-cycle discrete-time quantum walks\,(DTQW) are known to recur to its initial state after every $t_r$ steps. We first present a scheme to optically realize any $k$-cycle DTQW using $J$-plate, orbital angular momentum\,(OAM) sorters, optical switch, and optical delay line. This entangles the polarization and OAM degrees of freedom\,(DoF) of a single photon. Making use of this recurrence phenomena of $k$-cycle DTQW and the entanglement generated during the evolution, we present a new quantum direct communication protocol. The recurrence and entanglement in $k$-cycle walk are effectively used to retrieve and secure the information, respectively, in the proposed protocol. We investigate the security of the protocol against intercept and resend attack. Quantum walks are more than tools for building quantum algorithms. They have been used effectively to model and simulate quantum dynamics in many complex physical processes. Particularly, a variant of discrete-time quantum walk known as split-step quantum walk is closely related to Dirac cellular automata and topological insulators whose realizations rely on position-dependent control of evolution operators. Owing to the ease of manipulating multiple degrees of freedom of photons, we provide an optical setup of split-step operators which in combination with position-dependent coin (PDC) operation can accomplish a table-top setup of generalized split-step walks. Also, we propose an optical implementation for PDC operation that allows, for instance, to realize electric quantum walks, control localization dynamics, and emulate space-time curvature effects. BACKGROUND Patients with diabetic peripheral neuropathy (DPN) suffer from numbness, burning feet, lightning pain, and pins-and-needles sensations. Recently, High resolution ultrasonography is commonly used for evaluation of peripheral nerve diseases because of its easy availability, time saving and non-invasiveness of the procedure. This study intended to compare the cross sectional area (CSA) of posterior tibial nerve (PTN) in type 2 diabetic patients with peripheral neuropathy with that of non-diabetic healthy adults using high resolution ultrasonography (HRU) and study the role of increase in HbA1c level and severity of DPN comparing with CSA of PTN. METHODS A cross sectional comparative descriptive study was conducted from November 2018 to May 2020 with 50 type 2 diabetic patients and 50 healthy adults. 50 type 2 diabetic patients, clinically diagnosed with DPN were analysed and using the Toronto Clinical Neuropathy Score (TCNS) System, the severity of neuropathy was determined. HbA1c level and other demographic data were collected. 50 healthy adults were taken as controls. The CSA of posterior tibial nerve was measured 3 cm proximal to the medial malleolus in both lower limbs using HRU. RESULTS The mean CSA of posterior tibial nerve in healthy subjects was 6.0 + / - 0.142 mm2 , and in diabetic patients with peripheral neuropathy was 11.77 + / - 0.291 mm2 . Upon comparing the mean CSA of posterior tibial nerve of diabetic subjects with peripheral neuropathy and control subjects were statistically significant (P < 0.001) in unpaired ‘t’ test. In our study, CSA of the posterior tibial nerve correlated significantly with TCNS and HbA1c levels, at P < 0.001. CONCLUSIONS This study showed that there is a significant difference between the cross sectional areas of posterior tibial nerve in diabetic subjects with peripheral neuropathy and healthy adult subjects. HRU can detect cross sectional area changes in the posterior tibial nerve early. Thus, ultrasonography can be used as a good screening tool in these patients. Most quantum systems that are used for generating entanglement and for practical applications are not isolated from the environment, and are hence susceptible to noise. Entanglement in more than one degree of freedom between two systems, known as hyperentanglement, is known to have certain advantages, including robustness against noise over conventional entangled states. Quantum illumination, imaging and communication schemes that involve sending one photon from a pair of entangled photons and retaining the other photon usually involve exposing only the signal photon to environmental noise. The disruptive nature of noise degrades entanglement and other correlations which are crucial for many of these applications. In this paper, we study the advantages of using photon pairs in certain path-polarization hyperentangled states in a noisy interaction where photons in only one of the paths are affected by noise. We model such noise and study the effect of noise on the correlations present in the hyperentangled photons. Three different methods, entanglement negativity, entanglement witnesses and Bell nonlocality are used to show the resilience of path-polarization hyperentangled probe state against noise., Comment: 11 pages, 15 figures

By using the operations required to describe the single particle discrete-time quantum walk on a position space we demonstrate the realization of the universal set of gates on two-and three-qubit system. The idea is to reap the effective Hilbert space of the single qubit and the position space on which it evolves in superposition of position space in order to realize multi-qubit states and universal set of quantum gates on them. Realization of many non-trivial gates in the form of engineering arbitrary states is simpler in the proposed quantum walk model when compared to the circuit based model of computation. We will also discuss the scalability of the model and some propositions for using lesser number of qubits in realizing larger qubit systems.

Higher dimensional Hilbert space along with ability to control multiple degrees of freedom of photon and entangle them has enabled new quantum protocols for various quantum information processing applications. Here, we propose a scheme to generate and control polarization-path-frequency entanglement using the operative elements required to implement a polarization-controlled quantum walk in the path (position) space and frequency domain. Hyperentangled states manifests in the controlled dynamics using an interferometric setup where half-wave plates, beam-splitters and frequency shifters such as those based on the electro-optic effect are used to manipulate the polarization, path and frequency degrees of freedom respectively. The emphasis is on utilizing the polarization to influence the movement to a specific value in the frequency and position space. Negativity between the subspaces is calculated to demonstrate the controllability of the entanglement between the three degrees of freedom and the effect of noise on the entanglement is modelled using the depolarizing channel. Progress reported with experimental demonstration of realization of quantum walk using quantum states of light makes quantum walks a practical approach to generate hyperentangled states.

Quantum walks are known to propagate quadratically faster than their classical counterparts and are used to model dynamics in various quantum systems. The spread of the quantum walk in position space shows anomalous diffusion behavior. By controlling the action of quantum coin operation on the corresponding coin degree of freedom of the walker, one can demonstrate control over the diffusion behavior. In this work, we report different forms of coin operations on quantum walks exhibiting anomalous diffusion behavior. Homogeneous and accelerated quantum walks display superdiffusive behavior, whereas uncorrelated static and dynamic disorders in the evolution induce strong and weak localization of the particle indicating subdiffusive and normal diffusive behavior. The role played by the interference effects in the spreading of the walker has remained elusive and our aim in this work is to present the interplay between quantum coherence and mean squared displacement of the walker. The quantum channels with memory, known as non-Markovian channels, are of crucial importance for a realistic description of a variety of physical systems, and pave ways for new methods of decoherence control by manipulating the properties of an environment such as its frequency spectrum. In this work, the reduced dynamics of a coin in a discrete-time quantum walk is characterized as a non-Markovian quantum channel. A general formalism is sketched to extract the Kraus operators for a $t$-step quantum walk. Non-Markovianity, in the sense of P indivisibility of the reduced coin dynamics, is inferred from the nonmonotonous behavior of distinguishability of two orthogonal states subjected to it. Furthermore, we study various quantum information-theoretic quantities of a qubit under the action of this channel, putting in perspective the role such channels can play in various quantum information processing tasks.

In quantum illumination, the signal mode of light, entangled with an idler mode, is dispatched towards a suspected object bathed in thermal noise and the returning mode, along with the stored idler mode, is measured to determine the presence or absence of the object. In this process, entanglement is destroyed but its benefits in the form of classical correlations and enlarged Hilbert space survive. Here, we propose the use of probe state hyperentangled in two degrees of freedom - polarization and frequency, to achieve a significant 12dB performance improvement in error probability exponent over the best known quantum illumination procedure in the low noise regime. We present a simple receiver model using four optical parametric amplifiers (OPA) that exploits hyperentanglement in the probe state to match the performance of the feed-forward sum-frequency generator (FF-SFG) receiver in the high noise regime. The quantum walk formalism is a widely used and highly successful framework for modeling quantum systems, such as simulations of the Dirac equation, different dynamics in both the low and high energy regime, and for developing a wide range of quantum algorithms. Here we present the circuit-based implementation of a discrete-time quantum walk in position space on a five-qubit trapped-ion quantum processor. We encode the space of walker positions in particular multi-qubit states and program the system to operate with different quantum walk parameters, experimentally realizing a Dirac cellular automaton with tunable mass parameter. The quantum walk circuits and position state mapping scale favorably to a larger model and physical systems, allowing the implementation of any algorithm based on discrete-time quantum walks algorithm and the dynamics associated with the discretized version of the Dirac equation., 8 pages, 6 figures

The unique features of quantum walk, such as the possibility of the walker to be in superposition ofthe position space and get entangled with the position space, provides inherent advantages that canbe captured to design highly secure quantum communication protocols. Here we propose two quan-tum direct communication protocols, a Quantum Secure Direct Communication (QSDC) protocoland a Controlled Quantum Dialogue (CQD) protocol using discrete-time quantum walk on a cycle.The proposed protocols are unconditionally secure against various attacks such as the intercept-resend attack, the denial of service attack, and the man-in-the-middle attack. BACKGROUND Twenty one amide compounds possessing phenoxy/benzyloxy/pyridinyl groups have been synthesized by benzoylation of respective amines in presence of base with moderate to encouraging yields. Upon confirmation of structure, compounds were subjected for p38 kinase inhibitory, anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial and antitubercular activities. METHOD Anti-inflammatory activity was determined using carrageenan induced rat paw edema model while p38 kinase inhibitory activity was studied using ELISA method and serial dilution method was employed to determine MICs. Two compounds 4g and 4n showed over 30% p38 kinase inhibitory activity at 10 µM and best anti-inflammatory activity was found for compounds 4g, 4i, 4n and 4o which exhibited to reduce paw edema over 70%. Compound 4b was observed to be the most potent against gram +ve organisms with MIC value of 1.6 µG/mL and compound 4u displayed potent antibacterial activity against gram negative organisms. CONCLUSION Most encouraging antitubercular activity was noticed for compounds 4u, 4r and 4k with 6.25, 12.5 and 12.5 µG/mL Further, in order to know the binding site interactions, a docking simulations of compounds was performed. These preliminary results will certainly show fruitful directions to improve the activities of compounds.

Purpose: This paper aims to provide an overall picture of the application of Web 2.0 technologies in national libraries in African countries. The focus of the research was to examine the types of Web 2.0 technologies that were used in national library websites and their features. Design/methodology/Approach: Content analysis was used in terms of quantitative approach. A checklist as the main research instrument was developed based on other checklists and questionnaires. Data were collected by accessing National library Web sites of African countries. Findings: In the African continent out of 61 countries 51 countries have national libraries. 31 of these have web presence and 10 national libraries are using Web 2.0 technologies in their websites. Research limitations: A combination of content analysis with survey and / or interview may enable future researchers to analyze other aspects (e.g. the application of internal wikis or the use of instant messaging for reference services) of Web 2.0 that a single method of content analysis could not gain. This study explores the application of Web 2.0 and is useful for all types of national libraries in evaluating/deploying Web 2.0.
