Rhinosporidiosis caused by Rhinosporidium seeberii, a protistal microorganism, is endemic in several parts of India. Infection involves mucous membranes of the nose and paranasal sinuses and usually manifests as vascular friable polyps. A few cases of rhinosporidoisis have been reported from Delhi, in patients who were migrants from other states. The present case constitutes the first report of rhinosporidiosis in a Delhi resident; the lesion occurred as polypoidal mass of the palpebral conjunctiva.

The new developments in optical components and techniques, combined with rapidly increasing communication requirements suggest that optical systems operating within the atmosphere may represent desirable solution to some of the communication problems. The design of such systems is strongly influenced by considerations of atmospheric turbulence. The promising alternative is the heterodyne system operating at 10·6 μ.An attempt is made to optimize the given system for a particular set of performance parameters and with a fixed value of total system cost. Computational technique is used to solve the non-linear differential equations for the evaluation of optimum system parameters with a transmission wavelength of 10·6 μ.

Seventy patients with pulmonary tuberculosis and 12 healthy controls were included in a study to observe the effect of ethambutol on serum uric acid level. In ethambutol-treated cases a statistically significant increase in mean serum uric acid levels was observed in the second, third and fourth week of treatment. This increase was independent of dosage of ethambutol. However, 22 of the 52 (42%) ethambutol-treated cases showed no increase. Streptomycin was found not to potentiate the hyperuricaemic action of ethambutol. Hyperuricaemia due to ethambutol was reversed with probenicid but not by salicylates. No patient developed acute gouty arthritis although two developed arthralgia.
