In this paper, we present an alternative perspective on the mean-field LIBOR market model introduced by Desmettre et al. in arXiv:2109.10779. Our novel approach embeds the mean-field model in a classical setup, but retains the crucial feature of controlling the term rate's variances over large time horizons. This maintains the market model's practicability, since calibrations and simulations can be carried out efficiently without nested simulations. In addition, we show that our framework can be directly applied to model term rates derived from SOFR, ESTR or other nearly risk-free overnight short-term rates -- a crucial feature since many IBOR rates are gradually being replaced. These results are complemented by a calibration study and some theoretical arguments which allow to estimate the probability of unrealistically high rates in the presented market models.

This paper studies the impact of mechanical deformations on the performance of a coaxial-type cryogenic current comparator (CCC). Such deformations may become a concern as the size of the CCC increases (e.g. when used as a diagnostic device in a particle accelerator facility involving beamlines with a large diameter). This paper presents a new shield configuration for cryogenic current comparators (CCCs), namely the folded coaxial geometry. An analytical model describing its shielding performance is first developed, and then validated by means of finite element simulations. Thanks to this model, the fundamental properties of the new shield are highlighted. Additionally, this paper compares the volumetric performance of the folded coaxial shield to the one of a ring shield, the latter being installed in many CCCs for measuring particle beam currents in accelerator facilities., Comment: 13 pages, 15 figures

This work suggests to optimize the geometry of a quadrupole magnet by means of a genetic algorithm adapted to solve multi-objective optimization problems. To that end, a non-domination sorting genetic algorithm known as NSGA-III is used. The optimization objectives are chosen such that a high magnetic field quality in the aperture of the magnet is guaranteed, while simultaneously the magnet design remains cost-efficient. The field quality is computed using a magnetostatic finite element model of the quadrupole, the results of which are post-processed and integrated into the optimization algorithm. Strain gradient theory is an accurate model for capturing the size effect and localization phenomena. However, the challenge in identification of corresponding constitutive parameters limits the practical application of the theory. We present and utilize asymptotic homogenization herein. All parameters in rank four, five, and six tensors are determined with the demonstrated computational approach. Examples for epoxy carbon fiber composite, metal matrix composite, and aluminum foam illustrate the effectiveness and versatility of the proposed method. The influences of volume fraction of matrix, the stack of RVEs, and the varying unit cell lengths on the identified parameters are investigated. The homogenization computational tool is applicable to a wide class materials and makes use of open-source codes in FEniCS. We make all of the codes publicly available in order to encourage a transparent scientific exchange.

Reproducibility and reusability of the results of data-based modeling studies are essential. Yet, there has been -- so far -- no broadly supported format for the specification of parameter estimation problems in systems biology. Here, we introduce PEtab, a format which facilitates the specification of parameter estimation problems using Systems Biology Markup Language (SBML) models and a set of tab-separated value files describing the observation model and experimental data as well as parameters to be estimated. We already implemented PEtab support into eight well-established model simulation and parameter estimation toolboxes with hundreds of users in total. We provide a Python library for validation and modification of a PEtab problem and currently 20 example parameter estimation problems based on recent studies. We study the zeros of cross-product of Bessel functions and obtain their approximations, based on which we reduce the eigenvalue counting problem for the Dirichlet Laplacian associated with a planar annulus to a lattice point counting problem associated with a special domain in $\mathbb{R}^2$. Unlike other lattice point problems, the one arisen naturally here has interesting features that lattice points under consideration are translated by various amount and the curvature of the boundary is unbounded. By transforming this problem into a relatively standard form and using classical van der Corput's bounds, we obtain a two-term Weyl formula for the eigenvalue counting function for the planar annulus with a remainder of size $O(\mu^{2/3})$. If we additionally assume that certain tangent has rational slope, we obtain an improved remainder estimate of the same strength as Huxley's bound in the Gauss circle problem, namely $O(\mu^{131/208}(\log \mu)^{18627/8320})$. As a by-product of our lattice point counting results, we readily obtain this Huxley-type remainder estimate in the two-term Weyl formula for planar disks.
